When lessons aren't being held, the Practice Room serves exactly the purpose it was named for. Practicing.
Here students are free to complete assigned homework, practice spells, practice dueling or sparing (separate from the dueling club) or get help from the Professor or other students.
The room is empty, save for a few benches lining the walls where students may take breaks or watch their fellow classmates. Large windows allow in plenty of light, and have been charmed against breaking. A door on the opposite side of the hall leads to the obstacle course.
If you have questions, concerns or would like demonstrations, speak to Professor Dakest. He will poke his head in here intermittently.

When Cutty entered the practice room he had a loosely laid out plan of practicing his quit-hittin-yerself charm on one of the dummies. Only there were no dummies to be found. That was unfortunate. Now he'd have to find a first year or...A door. A mysterious door on the other side of the room. It needed opening.
Professor Dekest wouldn't mind, would he? Perhaps he put it there on purpose for the students to explore. Maybe he loaded it with gadflies & glumbumbles. Cutty found himself hoping that his new Defense professor had a dark side as he headed straight for the door and left the practice room. That was always more interesting.
He was early. Ridiculously so. It was an old habit, born of ridiculously early mornings spent in the training hall at the Ministry, and sleepless nights. Habits, it seemed, which were still hard to break.
Still, it gave him time to think. He had spent the better part of the early hours just wandering around the pratice area, going over his conversation with Shacklebolt and Brown, over his own memories of wanting to join the MLE. It was no small thing, deciding one's career path, and no small matter being one to encourage or discourage said decision.

Evie was also early to this meeting. She was nervous and excited and wanted to show Dakest that she was serious about this. At the least, she was serious about finding her "calling", so to speak, or what she should do for the rest of her life. This was an option.
It was a bit drafty in the corridor, but Evie was dressed comfortably. She wasn't bundled up, but wearing clothing that was easy to move in for this round of... whatever they were going to do. Duel? Possibly. As she rounded the corner, Evie stopped before she reached the entrance to the practice room... She had an idea. Peeking inside, Evie looked around until her eyes landed on the DADA professor. And then his wand as it twirled in between his fingers. Her own wand snuck out of her sleeve and Evangeline pointed it just barely into the room. She didn't know if it would work, but it would be a valiant effort either way. She was small and quick and hopefully hard to see from where she was.
"Expelliarmus," the ravenclaw muttered with her wand flicking towards the professor's. Only then did she wonder if she could get detention for disarming a professor without permission. Hmm.
Sophie Brown wasn't actually sure that anyone who read the Quill would want to spend their Sunday afternoon putting in extra time for schoolwork, let alone something that was purely optional and would earn them no credit or points. The only benefit to joining the female Ravenclaw prefect today was just for self-growth and fun, so... was that really enough to attract people? Would anyone even show up?
She thought she could count on one Gryffindor prefect to show up, but beyond that... she wasn't sure about anyone else. Lots of students still seemed awfully queasy and insecure over performing the charm in front of anyone, but... at least here, there was no professor watching them and judging them, right? It was just classmates. Housemates. Friends. They were all in this together.
Sophie had taken the liberty to set up the empty practice room with a few yoga mats for those who needed to clear their minds, a table scattered with hand mirrors, quills, and blank sheets of parchment for confidence-building and self-reflection activities, and various plates of cupcakes, cookies, and sweets from Honeydukes were scattered on the benches lining the walls. Sweets from her own personal stock. THE THINGS SHE DID FOR HER CLASSMATES.
Keeping an eye on the time and the door of the room, Soph sat on the floor in the center of the practice room, her bag beside her as she polished her wand. Just making good use of down time.
After reading the most recent copy of the Quill, Eden decided..hey, might as well come and do a spot of practice. Did she have faith that she'd get it? Absolutely not. But maybe not within the confines of classroom pressure, she'd do better.
Unfortunately, Eden was in a ....terrible mood today.
She couldn't place why she was feeling off...but she did. She missed Phoenix. She was worried about University acceptance. She missed her mother. She hadn't started Christmas shopping yet, and she was stressed about it. NEWT studying...? HELLLO? Was it too early to start? And on top of those things....she just wanted to hide most days from people.
Meh.
Her self confidence was low right now. She arrived and saw Sophie and waved halfheartedly. "Hiii..."

Penelope had read Sophie's Quill article about patronuses. She needed the extra practice with patronuses, and she wasn't going to pass up an opportunity for extra work outside of class. When she arrived at the practice room, it didn't look like many students had showed up yet. "Hi Sophie, Hi Eden." All Ravenclaw girls so far. Would anyone from any of the other houses show up? Maybe extra practice on Sundays was just a Ravenclaw thing. They needed to do this practicing and studying together thing more often. It could be a Ravenclaw study group. Did they already have one of those? If not they needed to form a study group right now. Penelope eyed the yoga mats and tables. What were they going to do? It looked like Sophie had some great activities planned.

It had been bugging Zeke that he hadn't been able to master the Patronus Charm.
Bugging him SO MUCH, that he had little desire to do anything but practice.
All he had managed to produce in his dorm however, was the shield of light that he had managed to produce in class, nothing more, and nothing less. He wanted progress, demanded progress... and so here he was, for no other reason except self-betterment. So here he was, a young man and his wand, ready to cast a corporeal patronus.
..
And there were other people present. Huh? Had he missed a homework announcement?
"Hi," Zeke greeted, as he stepped into the training room making his way across to the group of girls there... all Ravenclaws. "Is there a secret Ravenclaw Girls meeting in here? Do I need to go?..." or could he practice here in the corner, quietly, minding his own business?

Hady had seen the article in the Quill about a gathering here in the Practice Room today for students to help one another with the Patronus Charm. She had to admit the moment she read it her interest was peeked and she knew she'd be going. The charm was firmly up front in the young snakette's mind and she couldn't shake the feeling of not being able to fully cast it.
So right after lunch on Sunday she made her way to the proper room in the article. It appeared to her she was on time as others were already there including both Zeke and Eden! With a grin in place Hady walked over to the others waiting to see what would happen. Maybe today would be the day she'd be able to get more then just a mist or shield from her charm casting and learn what form her patronus would take.
To say she was ready would be a major understatement.

Text Cut: Greetingsss!
Sophie's wand-polishing endeavors were going swimmingly when a person appeared through the doorway - and it wasn't just any person, it was Eden! "Hi Eden," the prefect chimed, her thoughts drifting back to their conversation at the feast while she finished up with her wand care and packed away her polishing kit. She had mostly written the article with Tobes and Zander in mind, but now that Eden was here... well, Sophie realized just how much it must have meant to the seventh year, too. "I'm glad you came," she smiled, rising to her feet and brushing off the back of her pants in case dirt had accumulated on them when she was on the floor.
"We're gonna have a good day," she told the older girl just as another Ravenclaw joined them - Penelope! "Hi Penelope! S'nice to see you." It was, too. She had TWO PEOPLE show up, which was just about as much as she could've hoped for with the article...
...But then Zeke and Hady showed up, too! Though... Zeke didn't seem to know what was going on, did he? Maybe he was here by chance. Oop. "Hi Zeke, Hady - y'can stay, Zeke, we're just having a little patronus practice session for anyone who wanted extra work on it." Did he want to work on it, too, or was he here for other reasons?
At any rate... the sixth year glanced at the door, then back at those who had joined her today. "M'sure we'll have more people trickling in as we go," as she hadn't specified a real time, just 'after lunch,' "but thank you all for coming today. Professor Dakest isn't here, and I don't think he will be here - so it's just us. No adults looming in over our heads, no pressure to impress anyone - this is just for us." It was nice to have a professor's guidance with some things, but not having a superior around certainly would ease some tension with this kind of magic, wouldn't it?
"I'm not a teacher, so I'm not gonna act like one - I'm just here for guidance. So... I tried thinking of things that would help us along on our individual paths for... self-growth and conjuring a corporeal patronus. You don't have to share what you feel like you need to work on, or what might be holding you back, but..." She gestured first to the table with self-inking quills, sheets of blank parchments, and hand-held mirrors on it. "I thought maybe it'd be helpful to write it down. It's nothing that you'll need to show anyone, it's just for you. Maybe write down... why you're here, what you need to work on, what's keeping you from performing to your full potential... just some self-reflection." They had to identify and face their struggles first, right? "There are mirrors there, too - I know it's kinda cheesy, but y'could look into a mirror and note your first reaction to your reflection - and not about yourself physically, but about you are as a person. Whether your perception is positive or negative, what good things you think of yourself or what bad things come to mind - those good things are what we need to harness, and the bad things are those kinda demons that you're gonna have to work to overcome. This isn't just about patronuses - for some of you, it may be something much deeper." Her gaze briefly lingered on Eden's with sympathetic eyes, but then it continued alternating between the others.
"So there's one option - y'can spend some time reflecting, journaling your thoughts and worries, and just... letting everything out. Y'can also make a list of things that make you happy, whether it be people, hobbies, places, or things - and try to work out a few options of happy memories that might be powerful enough to use later on." All right? So... there were some self-reflection activities for those who could benefit from that kind of thing.
Gesturing now to the yoga mats, she went on, "For those of you who have your memories ready or have the confidence you think you'll need to perform the patronus, but maybe you're anxious or tense and need to clear your mind and body first, I can lead you guys through some stretches and deep-breathing kinda stuff to just feel good and cleansed in both mind and body. Just to relax, y'know?" She wasn't sure if anyone would even want to do that, as Romanos may have influenced negative feelings toward yoga-related things. It had been no secret that people had wished to be taught more extreme, hands-on things right off the bat, like the way Dakest taught... but Sophie saw the benefit of it with something like this, too. Relaxation techniques were mega useful.
"And some of you may be ready right now to just give it a shot, and y'can do that, too - just go ahead and work with the charm. We're all here right behind you supporting you, so don't worry about what anyone else is thinking or anything." And then there were the sweets. "And I know we just had lunch, but if you need to take a break and just chill out, there's some sweets from Honeydukes and baked goods over here, too, that y'can help yourselves to.
"So... go ahead and do whatever y'think y'need to do. This is your time." Their time to SHINE. And Sophie would just be over here by the yoga mats in case anyone wanted that. And if no one wanted to do that, she could give them more personalized attention, too, to anyone who sought guidance.

Not to long after she'd entered the room one of the Prefects whom she knew to be Sophie had began to speak. There was certainly a lot of talking happening just then and the third year couldn't help but slightly zone out for the briefest of moments. She did though manage to hear everything that had been said!
The idea of writing things down was certainly a very good one and quite useful as well she had to admit. However this was something Hady would normally reserve for when she was completely alone and one with her thoughts. There were just some things no one needed to know about. Other things were alright but the memory she'd been using was the one she was sticking with as she knew deep down it was the one she needed. Whatever was holding her back from casting the patronus at her full potential was another matter in itself.
A snack and some deep breathing sounded very much like a good start. So with a bright grin directed at Sophie when she'd finished speaking Hady made her way over to one of the tables and collected herself a sugar quill. With the treat in had she made her way towards one of the mats and sat herself down on it folding her legs up under her and closing her eyes as she took in slow deep breaths through her mouth and letting them out her nose. Sucking on the sugar quill she let her mind wander back to her happiest memory replaying it in her head.
And so the process has began...now to see what would happen.
Eden took in all that Sophie said, which was...a lot. Merlin, the prefect could talk, couldn't she? Eden just nodded lots and was happy for the chance to..maybe not even perform the magic right now if she wasn't feeling up to it. She thought she should make a list of the things that make her happy. She didn't want to pour out her soul right now..that would be too much.
"Hi Hady, hi....Zeke?...Penelope--" she smiled at the other students there and sighed as she sat down at the table to begin making a list. She had a feeling it'd be a very short list. Hmm.

Sophie stood off to the side as she watched where people would go - Hady to the yoga mats, Eden to the table - and Sophie caaasually began to mosey over in the direction of the mats to see if Hady wanted to do her own thing or if she would benefit from some actual yoga exercises, but it seemed that the Slytherin was quite content to work alone.
That worked just fine.
Resuming her stance by the wall, Sophie smiled as Eden seemed to know what she needed to do, too, and she was writing away. Good egg, that one, and Soph was headed over to snag some sweets from the benches when Eden had turned to address her.
Oop. Awkward. She was PUT ON THE SPOT. She hadn't wanted to so blatantly bring it up and make anyone feel bad - she just assumed they knew, since she was taking the lead on this impromptu session. But... maybe the seventh year was going somewhere with this.
"I can, yeah. I started working on it at the beginning of my fourth year. Took me just under two years to get it down - I finally did it right before school ended last term, once OWLs were out of the way." So, see? It had taken her TWO YEARS of working on it to conjure a corporeal patronus. For those who were attempting it for the first time this term... she couldn't even expect them to do it. But, this was why she wanted to help in the first place - because she'd had to learn it all on her own, without guidance, and she wanted to pass along things that had helped her do it.
Maybe these activities would help them do it in a lot shorter span of time than it had taken her.

If he hadn't been listening to the footsteps outside, if he hadn't been expecting someone, he might not have noticed it. The one set of footfalls that came close and then stopped, disappearing into the white noise of more distant shuffles. From the corner of his eye, he couldn't see anything in or near the door, nothing significant.
Had he not been expectant, and had a decade of expectancy ingrained into him, he would have missed it. As it was, his shield was sloppy, brought up at the last second, when the faintest change in the air alerted him.
The spell knocked against the floor with a pop, leaving him standing straight away from the wall, regarding the doorway with an unreadable expression. He could see it now, the smallest section of the wand that had cast against him. The thought trickled across his mind to send a knockback spell in return, but as it was his wand remained at his side with his disconcerting thoughts.
"Miss Shacklebolt." Really, who else would it be?

He was thankful that Hady happened to be here, because he didn't much know the others... and Sophie was all sorts of, CLAW. Like, did she know how much she TALKED? It was a LOT. Like, SIGNIFICANTLY a lot of words to listen to and comprehend. As soon as she mentioned 'notes' he was lost, gone, in another world.
He did not sign up for this, legit... ZERO signing up was involved, ergo he could just find his own corner of the room to practice in.
Once she was finally done with her lecturing -- cause let's face it, even if she said she didn't want to sound like a teacher, she kinda did -- he exchanged a look/nod with some of his peers, greeting both Hady and Eden in that manner.
BUT...
He was going to do this.
Wand in hand, Zeke shuffled a short distance away to give himself some breathing and moving room.
The memory had to be strong, strong enough to fill him. And this memory was, he was sure of it. On top of that, it had to inspire him to feel and to want to protect as much as the memory made him feel safe and protected. Easily done.
The problem was in the execution.
The wand movement he knew, and was proficient at, the incantation too was the same. So what was he lacking?
"Expecto Patronum," he stated with purpose as he performed the charm.
Again, like the other times, the light that shot out of his wand formed a shield in front of him, but it didn't take on a corporeal form.
He had to try again.
"Expecto Patronum!" he said more forcefully the second time, putting every ounce of will he had into performing the charm.

"Hi Hady, hi....Zeke?...Penelope--" she smiled at the other students there and sighed as she sat down at the table to begin making a list. She had a feeling it'd be a very short list. Hmm.
From where she was sat down on one of the mats she heard her name. Opening her eyes she spotted the voice and gave a small grin followed by a friendly wave of her hand. "Hey Eden," she greeted quietly before rising to her feet. One could only do so much relaxing and deep breath you know.
With the sugar quill in her mouth she spotted her bestie and quietly made her way towards him. He appeared to be having a bit of trouble and looked uh well flustered? Hady made sure he could see her this time cause you know coming up behind him now while he was practicing with a wand wouldn't be smart. Therefore she gave him her usually grin. "Hey, how's it going?" she asked softly moving to lean on the wall near him that way he could hear her but she wouldn't be crowding his working space. Maybe he just needed to relax a bit more?

With a HUFF, Evie made her presence known (even though it apparently was already known) and walked into the practice room, clearly irked that she wasn't able to disarm him. "I thought I was being quiet enough," she said. Irked, yes, but up to the challenge. Even so, Evie knew she was an amateur up against an Auror, so she wasn't expecting to take him down, but it was exciting to try.
When she walked across the room and stood a few feet in front of Professor Dakets, Evie crossed her arms over her chest, wand still in her hand. "When did you realize this was your life calling? When you were like, 'wow, I'm really good at this, let's fight crime'?" She was just curious to see when he started kicking butt and how much of a chance she stood against him.

Normally, he would have chuckled in good nature at such a senitment as hers, but as it was he simply watched her appear from the doorway and start across the room to him. There was a brief, and slight curl to the corners of his lips, though it was devoid of any amusement. "You would have been, had I not been listening for you."
There was a distinction, between being quiet and being known. She had the former, but the expectation of the later had given her away. It was the way with his world, the Auror world. Tiny distinctions, that made all the difference in the world.
The faint smile faded at her next question, his expression falling neutral again. Moving away from the wall, he motioned her to the center of the room. "Let's have a go, and then maybe I'll answer that question."
Stopping in the center of the room, he turned to face Shacklebolt, giving her a slight bow. Truth be told, he hated the bowing before duels, hated it from the day he became an Auror, but it was necessary here. In a learning environment. Both for the security of his job, and the impression that was bestowed upon the students. Couldn't rightly have duels popping out of no where.

But then Hady's familiar voice pulled him from his thoughts. Brows arched, he looked over to the side where she stood. "It's not going..." was his response. Because it just wasn't happening. HOW was it NOT happening? It was a charm! He was ACE at charms... or so he thought. "How're you going?" Was she having better luck?
And... sugar quill? Was she going to share that, or just make him hungry with it?
Sapphire entered the room slightly out of breath. With all the thoughts in her head, she hadn't realized she was walking so fast. She paused a moment and watched as some students were already practicing. There were a few who seemed to be writing or thinking.
She spotted the girl named Sophie, recognizing her but not expecting to be recognized. She quickly walked towards her, "Excuse me. You're Sophie right?" she began, her voice suddenly shaking a little. Sapphire hadn't realized she was nervous. Clearing her throat and trying to sound more confident, she continued, "I'm Sapphire. He was pondering what Sabel had told them in their lesson, about how the charm worked, hoping that it would give him some insight into what he was doing wrong that he'd somehow missed.
But then Hady's familiar voice pulled him from his thoughts. Brows arched, he looked over to the side where she stood. "It's not going..." was his response. Because it just wasn't happening. HOW was it NOT happening? It was a charm! He was ACE at charms... or so he thought. "How're you going?" Was she having better luck?
And... sugar quill? Was she going to share that, or just make him hungry with it?
She started off with a light smile her typical one when in his company, however the smile faded and shifted into a slight frown at his reply. So he wasn't doing well and it appeared to bug him. Boy did she know that feeling well. "I haven't tried yet today but usually not so well...I can get the wispy whitish smoke and once a shield like thing but it only lasts a few seconds at most." And that time she'd nearly been panicking over that creepy thing during their lesson.
"Are you trying to hard maybe? I think that's kinda my problem honestly..." she admitted shrugging her shoulders a little. Sometimes when you're just to focused you forget to enjoy it and things don't work out. Maybe a moment's break was in order. Breaking the sugar quill in half she offered it to him...the non-eaten part of course. Cause well sugar was awesome and Hady knew how to share. Sometimes anyhow.

He knew the charm was advanced, but the way Sabel was going on about it seemed as though he expected them to get it soon enough... and SOON was not happening for him. "I can get a shield, and it stays well enough, but I can't get it proper." And it was killing him. Slowly killing him.

"I... don't think so," he decided. Trying hard was one thing, but he could try harder, he could try MUCH harder... until he was blue in the face, but he wasn't going to. Nothing good would come from it. "I don't think I'm motivated enough for it," did she know what he meant? Aside from the pressure he was putting on himself to master the Charm, there just wasn't anything else motivating him. Even during the lesson, in the obstacle course thing, he knew it was all fake, that he wouldn't be harmed... it was business as usual.

"That's good progress though," she assured him with a usual grin. At least he got that and it held! "My dad told me me he didn't even get his down well enough until like his sixth year so I'd say we're doing good." They were managing to cast something which was a good start.
Not motivated enough. Hady totally understood that. Giving a nod of her head she moved to stand beside him drawing her wand. "Have you tried a different memory? Or um maybe you just need a good reason to cast one. As for me I don't even know what problem is anymore." She twirled her wand in fingers as she tried to bring up her happy memory her friends face clouding her thoughts though however.

But maybe they hadn't been as insanely successful as he imagined them to be. "That's something I suppose, guess we have a few years then." No pressure.

Unless maybe he simply hadn't experienced anything good enough just yet? Unlikely. For someone of his age, he'd experienced a great deal. But he nodded in agreement, "that's it I think, I just need a good enough reason to cast one."
And she didn't know what her problem was? "Do you think it's the memory you chose?" perhaps it was playing on her mind, since she'd suggested it to him too.

"We do. Just remember you're already doing better then most. Some wizards never are able to cast one." That was a thought which she wouldn't allow to happen. She WOULD cast one. Even if it killed her in doing so. Heck she mastered advanced spells last term all on her own. So she would get this.
"Well then stick with it. You'll get it when you're supposed to." Mhmm yep. She should probably be listening to her own advice really.
Hady shook her head. It wasn't the memory. The one she had chosen was by far the strongest one she had...or at least she thought it was. "I don't think so. Maybe it's the mixed emotions behind it but there's nothing else strong enough. I doubt my first day here or my best friend would work." Or perhaps it would?
