Welcome to Hogwarts! All guests and residents enter and leave the castle through Hogwarts' two great oak front doors. Once inside the Hall, you'll notice newly cleaned marble floors, a majestic central staircase, large, iridescent arched windows, and numerous doors and staircases leading off from the hall.

Honestly, it seemed a bit silly to her, scaring off the acromantulas. If they were causing so much harm and destruction, it made more sense to her to banish them or cause fear in THEM to force them back into the forest. But perhaps killing or injuring more of their species would only make things worse.
Alas, she was not in charge. She was here to help and assist in the safety of the school. The look of fear and panic on the students worried her. January thought of her niece, and how much more scared she would be if she were here. She thought of her own future (hopefully) children, and how terrified she would be for them.
Without hesitation, January began working at the task on hand. She started at the far windows. "Sentio Somnium," she cast, over and over again at each window, every little opening she could find. It had to be completely convincing or it would all go horribly wrong.

Daphne followed her group of dreamcasters out into the Entrance Hall. She was still trying not to think about this whole thing too much. Her out on the front lines, that is. For a person who'd only ever worked with dragon research, she still wasn't sure how this would work out for her.
She had Kate to think about, though. Kate, because she was here at this very school right now. She knew Ryland was safe at home with his daddy. Speaking of which, Silas Addison was going to have a fit when he'd learned what his wife and little girl had been up to today.
Seeing the others begin the charm, Daphne got right to work, too. She headed down the hall a little to a set of windows that had yet to be cast upon. "Sentio Somnium," she said, drawing her wand in a large circle. "Sentio Somnium." Would it work? She had no idea. She just knew Harmony would be pleased that they were confusing the creatures rather than killing them.

Soooooo... he had wanted to be part of Sabel's search and rescue team... BUT... his age and experience was questionable, so he opted for the next best thing, Professor Quigley's dream-casting team.
Following behind his group, coming to a halt behind Gabe, Zeke twirling his wand between his fingers before focusing his attention and intention on one of the windows close by.
"Sentio Somnium," he recited with confidence, his wand circle encompassing the windows width and height.
"Sentio Somnium," he repeated to ensure its strength. NO ROOM FOR ERROR.
.......At least...there wasn't a tumult of shouting and screaming in the entrance hall. A small comfort, but a comfort, nonetheless. So, cheeks still flushed and breaths coming in short gasps, Gabriel slumped slightly; leaning over to rest his forehead against Eden's shoulder. The relief of being in a somewhat quiet place was making him dizzy. Disoriented...but no less terrified.
Just to clarify.
Thankfully, Quigley's voice cut right across the fog in his mind...and though Gabe wasn't looking directly at the professor, he heard every word...even if they did seem far away and kind of muddled. It was to be expected...since he felt like his head was stuffed with cotton...or petroleum jelly...or some other type of jelly. Something.
...Don't overdo it with the imagination. Focus on doorways and windows...
Swallowing thickly, he glanced at Eden...and then nodded. She was leading him toward a series of windows...that they could focus on, away from the others. Pausing to watch her work for a moment, while muttering the spell to himself, Gabe resolved to try. His visualization wouldn't be perfect...He'd only seen pictures of basilisks...but.....Well....They were probably more terrifying in his mind, anyway. Gabe!brain made everything seem more intimidating, more terrifying, more....dangerous.
He was ridiculous. Er...essentially.
It was a shaky start, as he began casting at the two windows closest to him; the enchantment stuttered and broken....but with repetition, the incantation come more easily...and he'd kept the mental picture of Hogwarts in his mind; laid out perfectly, in contrast to the snake...Something he could thank Prefect duties for. Going on rounds presented areas of the castle one wouldn't usually frequent, maybe...Depending...on...things.
"Sentio somnium!"
Eden watched him cast the spell and wish she could somehow make him feel a little better...he just looked so...stressed. At least his spell was working properly and all. "Great job, Gabe." She smiled reassuringly and hoped he didn't take her tone condescendingly--on the contrary, she was glad to see him doing good spell work in such a stressy time.
Now the next set of windows. Eden pulled him along with her. Where was Clara? Had they lost her....again? Merlin's pants.
"Sentio Somnium--" she pointed her wand at the next window, thinking of all the nooks and crannies of the castle...of this spot...just of the daydream in general, with the basilisk. Oh, Eden had to chuckle at herself in this...tense moment. "I'm a bit disappointed we didn't get a basilisk." She whispered, glancing over in Quigley's direction. "But I guess that would have been a bad idea..." Well. She was laughing a little too much at herself because she was just SO anxious and stuff...and she couldn't help it.
She noticed Zeke, the younger Gryffindor, near them and gave him a reassuring smile, too. Okay. OKAY.

Tanner was still helping Javier shift the already-dead acromantulas. Her wand was directing them towards a pile that was growing larger and larger in hopes that it would help block off other areas of the castle. The last thing they wanted was for those creatures to get away from the area that the charm was cast in. Finally she ran out of bodies and looked around again properly. What was there left to do?
"Should we all move back into the Great Hall now, Quigley?" she called over to Maddox. After all, she didn't want to be there if and when all those spiders came in and saw a 'basilisk' in front of them. She'd rather hide under the 'snakeskin,' thank you very much.
Moving quickly over the Hogwarts' grounds, the second wave of Mother's invasion were soon clamoring to enter the castle and begin their feast. The sea of hairy tree trunk legs pounded against the stone floors, creating a loud drumming sound to announce their approach while their pincers clicked hungrily.
It would only be a matter of seconds before they would come pouring into the entrance hall...

It wasn't the ACTION he had hoped for, but charming things was totally up his ally, and so after doing his bit he looked back to the adults for guidance. Did this mean they could run out to the grounds and attack now? Please?
He'd have even suggested as such... when a sound began to grow louder... and louder...
"Uhhh....." what was that? Zeke stood, wand raised slightly as he listened to the sound grow nearer. What was that sound? WAS THIS AN ATTACK?! Could HE attack now?!

"Sentio Somnium!" Daphne said again, waving her wand in a circle. She'd continued finding places the Acromantula may consider entryways and cast on each one of them. She looked up again when Kate's Arithmancy professor suggested moving back into the Great Hall. She switched her gaze to another professor awaiting an opinion.

"Sentio Somnium!" Daphne continued.
She paused when one of the children apparently heard something. It didn't take more than one brain cell to figure out what it probably was. "I think you need to get back into the Great Hall," she suggested, and if the professors agreed that they'd done enough to counter the attack, Daphne thought they should probably all head back.
If the Acromantula were that close, she wanted her eyes a little closer to where Kate was.

Janelle continued to work on the windows and any cracks and crevices she could find. "Sentio Somnium", she repeated over and over as she worked. Hearing Professor Tanner ask if they should return to the Great Hall, Janelle listened for an answer. All the while she continued casting the daydream charm.
Because she was listening for instructions, Janelle's ears were on alert. Unfortunately, what she heard was not a response from the professors. It was a sound that could not be mistaken. They were back. Refusing to panic.......yet, Janelle looked to her leaders. Was it time to run?

Hairy limbs limbering over rubble, the first of the horde made its grand entrance and scurried forward.
"FLESH!" it roared to the others, having spotted the humans still present.
Seeing the pile of their fallen comrades, the acromantulas waved their legs and clicked their pincers in homage. Their sacrifice would not be in vain!
Ambling forward now, the leader stopped suddenly for reasons beyond the arachnid's comprehension. The others soon followed, creating an almost ripple effect with their movements and glazed over dark eyes.

The task at hand got easier as they went along...but Gabe never once strayed from Eden's side...or let go of her hand. He liked to think she was helping him not faint...because Gabes had been known to do that from time to time. Faint from stress. Vomit from anxiety.....er, etc.
Stepping backwards, he bumped into a smaller boy, Zeke, Gabe soon realised, and blinked at him. In fact, he continued blinking and staring at the younger Gryffindor...
.
.
Then...all hell seemed to break loose again.
The terrifying, eight-legged creatures were suddenly IN the Entrance Hall. It was time to run, right? Were they going to run?! Gabe was just going to....to run. Yes...that....that was happening...and Eden didn't have a choice. She was coming with him....and Zeke. Of course, realistically, he'd meant to start towards the Great Hall...but his legs were frozen to the spot and all he could do was STARE.
Was this really happening?! Also, what was that screaming noise? Who was screaming? Was that.......was that HIM?

The source of the noise became abundantly obvious as SPIDERS stormed into the entrance hall.
... Wow.
Just... wow.
BIG and HAIRY and BIIIIIGGGG... Zeke watching, his eyes wide open and mouth gaping.
This was..... something. He felt a shiver run down his spine, bringing him back to reality - almost.
He was conscious of the bump against his body that was Gabe, but he didn't look to the older student, his eyes were fixed on the spiders and how they'd stopped in their tracks.
It took him a second to realise that Gabe had a hold of him and that he was... well... FREAKING OUT. "Go, let's go," he said to the Prefect, pushing him in the direction of the great hall. "Go," he added again, with another push, hoping it would give the dude momentum. Zeke too stepped a couple of strides in the direction of the great hall, but stalled to look over at the spiders again, his wand still in hand.
Did they see the basilisk illusion thing? Were they going to flee?
This is the point we start running if we haven't already, yeah?
Yeah I broke that mirror, so what? ll NOT backward ll Official Gryfferin ll Lemon's favourite
What...was that sound....?
Even as he lowered his wand, the man perked his ears a bit trying to figure what he was actually hearing. In the next second he got his answer, even before he could respond to his colleague about them retreating. That sounded like a grand spanking idea right about now with the reappearance of the spiders.
"Everyone back inside!" He yelled with frantic hand gestures ushering them all back inside the Great Hall.
By all indication the spiders were taken aback. It was safe to assume the charm work hadn't just doomed them all to an early grave. Now all that was left was the attack on the inside. Maddox watched the students to be sure they were in or heading there before heading in himself to help with the efforts there.

Whatever the spiders were doing... it was hilarious. Zeke couldn't help but stare as the creatures fumbled and protested at what he could only assume was the charm work they had done. Excellent.
A part of him wanted to linger, to watch, to throw spells at them until they retreated back out of the castle, to chase them off. But he knew that wasn't going to happen. Professor's weren't going to let that happen. And besides, as much as they just looked like inflated spiders to him, he knew they were deadly... and deadly things generally brought death with them. He was too young to die. He knew this, and most people would agree with him... but death didn't discriminate, so he didn't like his chances.
Without question, Zeke silently followed Quigley's command, moving back to the great hall, only peering over his shoulder twice as he did so. The spiders were amusing, okay? OKAY? And too seen, the big hairy things were out of sight and he was stowed away with the others...

O________O For a moment, Janelle was frozen. She looked at the spiders with something close to awe. When she heard a scream, it snapped her out of her momentary trance and the awe was replaced by fear. Fortunately, the spell must have been working because the spiders seemed stunned. They must have been seeing the basilisk. Who knew how long the daydream would work though and that was what worried Janelle.
When she heard Professor Quigley give the order to retreat, Janelle did not need a second warning. She made a beeline for the Great Hall, running as fast as she possibly could. Looking over her shoulder, she wanted to make sure that everyone else in her group made it back safely. Hopefully the search and rescue team would be able to get out and find the captured students and Headmistress.

Well, that was unexpected but much appreciated, "Thank you Tiara." Javier said in between as they both moved the remaining Acromantula corpses. Hm. He was curious about the venom incase there were traces around, but the chances of that were minute given the burning smell since etched in. After the charms had been done, it seemed to be about time to get the snake skin on when...
Oh Merlin, they were here. Quickly, Javier draw his wand out in direction of the students to cast some extra shield charms on him. But from the looks of it the Acromantula's weren't attacking now. They were scared. Excellent.
As with Maddox's orders, Javier assisted in getting the others to turn back into the Great Hall. "Quickly now, we have them right where we want them." Now the question is on if they will stay there long enough. Lastly thinking before he himself turned back inside with the others.
Hops busted through the door with his snakeskin drape hoping the rest were ready and in position behind him. He moved along towards the acromantulas. He tried to act like a snake as he pulled his wand slowly out of the drape.
Pointing he shot a few stunning spells towards them.

Right behind Hops, Saul headed straight into the Entrance Hall where he could see hordes of those overgrown spiders laying in wait for them. Following the other shopkeep's lead, he weaved through the room like a big snake, aiming some well-placed stunning spells at the acromantulas as he poked his wand discreetly through the snakeskin draped over him.

As she was towards the front of the train, Tiara was one of the first ones to edge her way into the Entrance Hall. Even so, spells shot out from behind her, coming close enough that she felt the breeze as they went by. The sensation galvanized her nerve and she let loose. "Stupefy!" she cried fervently but quietly, not sure whether being loud would break the illusion for the arachnids. A spider crumpled as a red jet of light from her wand made impact. One down, who knows how many to go, she thought bleakly.

?!?!?!!
No, NO...Professor Tanner. No! Professor Quigley was saying back inside...and Gabriel was right behind him...with Zeke's help. Zeke had been tugging on him...right? Or had that been Eden...SOMEONE was tugging on him.
Stumbling on shaky legs, Gabe slowly made his way back to the Great Hall.
...and he might've still been screaming...or yelping. Whatever it could be called.

Man. You'd think all his years of Hogwarts would've trained him for this moment?
No where in his Charms textbook did it say ANYTHING about how to act like a snake. And Zander would know. He practically ate pages of that book for breakfast all last year. Firstly, imagine how dull that must taste. Ink does not go well with skim milk, thank you very much. Thank Merlin Zander didn't try it with the strawberry jam, amiright or amiright???
Ahem.
But anyways. With or without training, Zander was pretty much sure that he was doing the absolute BEST snake impression that he had ever done in all seventeen years of his living and also a few months and days added onto that. He was basically an old man now. And what better initiation into the real world than being hired for a real acting job. Man, they should charge for this stuff. Though hopefully next time their audience would be much more respectful and nonthreatening. But then again, at Hogwarts that is a lot to ask for. Especially when you've got blood thirsty beasts like third year, Maggie Traulton running around.
Anyways he was slithering.
And also following Tanner's lead. "Stupefy!" Did it work? "Stupefy!" Y'know just incase. Ahem. You can never be too sure.

After re-emerging in the proper setting in the Entrance Hall, Javier didn't have any hesitation in the amount of Knockback Jinxes sent towards the Acromantulas. Jinx after jinx, after jinx, after another with the whole group. "Keep it up, everyone." There were a lot of lives at stake now.
These overgrown spiders didn't stand a chance at this rate.

"Stupefy!" Tiara laughed to let off some nervous excitement. It was working! The spiders weren't attacking as soon as they came in the door. Instead, they looked confused, dazed.. almost like they had been Confunded. Well, the ones that hadn't been Stunned, at least.
It felt better knowing that others were helping to keep the acromantulas at bay. But if the charm stopped working, would their efforts be enough? There were so many of them.. So many...? Yes, that was it.
"Adair!" she said, speaking to the Gryffindor who happened to be close in line. "If some of them find a spot where the charm doesn't work, I want to shoot spells simultaneously. Will you listen for my count of three?" Double the power hitting at once ought to set them straight. But hopefully they wouldn't need such an action at all.
Continuing to throw themselves against walls and into each other, the acromantulas were only helping their prey defeat them. Their panic was sent over the edge when yet another of their mortal foes appeared.
"TWO?! HOW DO THEY HAVE TWO?!" shrieked a large arachnid who used its abdomen to whack one of its smaller siblings towards the basilisks. "BETTER YOU THAN ME!"
Very few continued to attack, but they were blasted back by spells that sent them crashing into the back wall or their fellow arachnids.
Aletag, having just scurried all the way down from the highest part of the castle, stopped and nearly dropped his turkey at the sight while secreting some venom right there on the stone floor. The appearance of shiny blue lights from somewhere reminded him of the otter he had just been chasing around and became distracted with after those. Still with his turkey.
The moving mass of dark hairy bodies began to dwindle some as more and more became stunned in their panic. There were even some who, upon looking at the basilisks, fell over on to their backs assuming they had died.
"DO NOT CAST YOUR EYES UPON IT!" ordered one as it turned its back towards the oncoming serpents.
"SHAME WE DO NOT HAVE FLESH FLAPS ON OUR EYES!" barked another.
