Ancient Runes Lesson II: Runic Charms

http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n...ps2fc17533.jpg

The classroom was normally organized. Rows of desks for students with their nametags perched on them filled the classroom. A giant bookshelf was on the left side of the room with the few educational items thrown here and there that they rarely used. The blackboard was empty except for the title 'Runic Charms' written on top. Professor Botros was standing by the door to greet the students as usual, with the room heated to a higher degree than the rest of the castle. Someone had weak knees and faulty joints in the cold, let's not name names though.

Go in, take a seat and be prepared for a new funducational Runes lesson.
ooc: - Class will start in the GMT afternoon today.
- Please familiarize yourself with the rules and guidelines for this class before posting.

It was a bit curious that Botros had told them to have breakfast before they came today - wasn't that usually a given? Sophie Brown was never one to pass up breakfast, at least, and she ALWAYS had her wits and books. So. She was all sorts of ready for today's class.

Pleased to see Botros at the door to greet them, Sophie gave the man a little wave as she entered with a bright smile. "Hi, professor. Hope you're well." She always hoped he was well, too - after the aging disease made him EXTRA old and they all thought he was going to kick the bucket... well... she worried about him a lot, okay? Even more as the years went on. She wanted to have him around for a long, long time.

Or at least until she graduated.

Crossing further into the room, Sophie took her usual seat with her name tag and got her supplies for class all set out on the desk in front of her, pumped and ready to go. Runes, man. Something at which she could EXCEED EXPECTATIONS.

Cassirin 06-19-2015 03:14 AM

Dot skipped through the door of the classroom and froze there, blocking anyone else from entering. The professor himSELF was waiting at the door, and she wanted to see him, OKAY? OKAY, impatient people?

"Hi, Professor. Good morning. Did you have breakfast? Toast? I bet you're a toast eater. It's warm in here, or maybe I have a fever. If I do, can I please go to the Healer? I don't want to be sick, on account of my having big plans on the weekend." She considered hugging his arm before deciding that, much as she liked the professor, they were NOT best friendly.

"Okay, bye, Professor." She hurried over to take a seat near the Sophie person.

Let's be honest here. Kate didn't really like Ancient Runes. Botros? Botros was awesome. Ancient Runes, though? Now that was something Kate had no interest in. Kate had decided to take the class anyway, because she was way too young to know what she wanted to do in the future, so she was allowing herself room to get prepared by experiencing things in all sorts of fields.

Ravenclaw? Mmhmm.

Well, the classroom looked to be just about as normal as it could be. Good. Kate liked knowing what to expect. Runic Charms. That pretty much just said it all right there. "Hello, Professor. How are you today?" she asked. She didn't stop in the middle of the doorway for an answer, though. She moved on past and took the seat marked 'KATE ADDISON'.

Alright, Runic Charms. Hit me with your best shot.

It was still cold and Adi was still LOVING it! He hummed a silly, cheerful tune that he was making up as he shuffled along the corridor. He kept humming until he reached the Runes classroom, where he continued with his shuffling, pausing to greet Botros. Also, he did not miss he temperature in the room was higher and he knew the Professor Head of House 2.0 preferred it this way. Old people usually like the warmth.

"Hi, Professor! Hope all's well with you.'' Botros got a grin, Kate and Sophie got a grind while Dot got a bow. "Hiiii, Queen Dot! Your Head Minion is right over there if you need anything.'' Adi happily pointed to his seat before taking off for it.

He was READY for this lesson though it was his worse subject. 'Runic Charms', he observed from the board. Sounded mighty interesting!

Entering the classroom, Lux smiled at everyone that was present. Seemed that she was quite early because hardly anyone was there. "Hello, Professor. How are you?"

Waving to her classmates she made her way over to her desk. And yes, she had made sure to eat breakfast before coming; that was one requirement that she could never fail to meet because food. Yummy food. She could actually go for some more right now. To take her mind off eating, she busied herself by taking out her notebook and textbook.

Runic Charms? That sounded like it could be interesting.

It was time for another Ancient Runes lesson. Secretly hoping they would be doing more acting, but very doubtful of that fact, Zhenya entered the class and smiled as she saw Professor Bortos. "Hello Professor, how are you today?" she asked. The classroom was back to normal, and Runic Charms was written on the board. So, obviously no acting. Never mind, she had all of her essential learning tools in her bag, and she was glad to be learning more for her NEWT studies.

She saw some of her friends, and she waved to everyone, before finding her seat and sitting down, pulling out her items to get ready for class.

He made sure not to miss his morning dose of Whimaway before coming to Professor Botros's class. Taming that tiger would help to concentrate and gather information, even if it did not kill the beast entirely. His growth had given him quick, long strides and his control made sure his face was plastered with a mask of pleasant serenity.

"Saba el-kheer. Good morning, Professor." He greeted the Runes Master quietly in both tongues as he entered the classroom...which was, to his delight quite warm.

Govoni 06-19-2015 10:41 AM

Gabriel was here...and ready to learn.

THANKFULLY...unlike last class, the desks were BACK where they should be. So, no dramatizing this lesson. Not that Gabe hadn't enjoyed himself. After it was all said and done and he'd returned to his common room to reflect, it HAD been fun. Different. Exciting. Even a stick in the mud such as himself could admit that.

"Professor Botros, I hope you are well." Nodding slightly towards the older man, cheeks tinged pink as he recalled his latest Runes homework being displayed, Gabe searched out his nametag. It took a moment...but it was found eventually. Taking a seat, he removed his notetaking materials and prepared.

Felixir 06-19-2015 10:45 AM

Tobias Fuller-Thompson was definitely a little worse for wear. Again. He'd managed to pick himself up again after Christmas, and had been doing so well. But then with the bother he'd gotten himself into recently, on TOP of all the complaints he'd been hearing from his housemates about missing pets and THEN the issues with the creatures down at the playpens... well... it was taking its toll.

There was a distinct lack of bounce in Toby's step as he entered the classroom, and he resented himself for it. He'd tried to eat a decent breakfast that morning, but after half a slice of toast couldn't really face much more, but he was here.

"Hi Professor Botros," the Hufflepuff greeted his head of house tiredly, forcing a little smile because really, Botros was lovely and deserved for everyone to be happy in his presence, as WELL as deserving to be happy himself. Still, Toby couldn't help but feel guilty again now. Hadn't he totally BETRAYED Botros, by playing up for Flamsteed? He sort of lingered for half a second, looking as though he might say something else, but instead simply moved on so as not to block the doorway, finding his usual seat and getting all set up.

VRSCIKA 06-19-2015 11:43 AM

Time for Ancient Runes again. Ilia wondered what the professor would have in store for them this time. It would be interesting if it was another acting class, but something different would also be fun. "Good Morning Professor." She greeted him with a polite bow and placed an apple upon his desk, then headed to a desk. After enough times with the charms professor she had just started keeping apples in her satchel. Every teacher would just be getting one now. She didn't see Henric yet, so she picked a seat close to Adi. "Good Morning, Adi." She said pleasantly enough, she was trying to be cheery........sort of.......as much as she could. She had been in a funk and was trying to at least be pleasant for her friend. 'Runic Charms.....' This should prove interesting.

First student to show up was the best OWL taker one. Botros smiled widely at Brown. "Good morning, dear."

"He--" Oh she wasn't finished talking. Botros smiled and nodded. "I--" Not yet. Okay. "No, dear, you don't have a fever. I'm just a little too cold." He patted her arm as she ran over to her seat. Whew, she was a handful. He almost felt for her parents. And dormmates. That much talking on a daily basis was a bit tiring, he bet.

"Hello, Tobias." With his usual smile, Botros put a hand on the boy's shoulder as he closed the door behind him announcing the start of class. He looked at the boy expectantly since he looked like he wanted to say something, but Tobias turned and went for his seat. Huh. Must be mistaken then.

Now!

"Good morning everyone again, and let's dive right into today's class." Botros went to stand in front of the blackboard on the little dais that was made especially for him. "Today we're going to touch on a subject that is a bit more complicated than what we've been doing this term. Runic charms." He gestured at the title behind him. "In Runic Magic you are creating or influencing a pattern of energy. It is the practice of noticing and influencing synchronicity through intention, expectation, and merging." Which was different than the natural magical skills for wizards. "When you practice runic magic, you intentionally thread and weave fields of energy together in an effort to create positive change. You will it to be so, and then you act upon your intention. That's an important tip, and the only thing, I would say, that corresponds with our natural magic.

"Since Odin shared the wisdom of the runes with humankind, runic symbols have been particularly valuable in creating magical charms for various purposes including healing, love, and protection." He paused, allowing them to write all this down, then continued, "Those runic charms are more desired by wizards because they're more stable, work on a much longer period than the magical spells we use. They're harder to counter, and require a series of complicated steps to break.

"Today we're going to learn how to make a runic charms, and the theme will be healing. This charm will help strengthen and quicken the process of healing for anyone who has a physical injury of any kind." Botros beamed at them excitedly and added, "Anyone has any question before we move on?" They were jumping right into practical portion next, so better be aware of what was going on now.
ooc: - Class has officially started!
- Feel free to post your character asking a question or writing notes, we'll start activities from my next post.
- Class will resume after at least 12 hrs.

Runic charms and magic.

As Professor Botros started the lesson and touched on the topic of the day's class, Ben was listening intently. The sixth year couldn't help but think back to other times they had used magic and runes together, most recently the lanterns last term. Granted they hadn't done any this year yet though but it wasn't a new topic, for him and some others in the class at least. And using it for healing was new.

Putting a header om his notes about the matter, Benny remained quiet. No...he had no real questions as of yet. We'd see what came to his mind later as the class went along...If he wanted to bother to speak and bring it up.

Felixir 06-19-2015 01:17 PM

For the record, Botros shoulder pats were always going to be one of Toby's favourite things about Hogwarts. He'd miss them next year, when he was gone. And even though Toby was really reeeeeally ready to graduate and get out of here, the things he'd started to realise he'd miss about the place were starting to affect him just as strongly.

He ruminated on that for a moment while Botros got the class underway, and began scribbling down a couple of notes on his parchment already. The mention of Runic Charms brought his attention back to the front of the room, and he started to look a little more eager. They were gonna try some Charms, right? Yeah? He wanted to try that. HEALING Charms too. Oh yes, deciding to come to class today despite feeling emotionally icky had been a good move.

When Botros asked if they had questions or anything, Toby raised his hand. "Are we gonna test them out?" he said, lowering his hand again and automatically biting at one of his fingernails before realising what he was doing and quickly stopping. "I mean. 'Cause we'd need things to heal to test them, right?" Was he getting too ahead of himself? Um. Maybe he'd just... keep working on his notes. Yep. Doing that now.

Kolyander 06-19-2015 02:33 PM

Oh they were going to be working on runic healing charms! Hady wasn't the best when it came to ancient runes and if she had to admit it this wasn't exactly her favorite lesson...but this topic got her attention. Anything to do with healing and or creatures of any kind seemed to do that.

With her interest already peaked the Slytherin pulled out a clean sheet of parchment and her quill getting straight to work on taking down her notes. After a moment though she raised one of her hands into the air, "Professor would these runic charms work on an injured creature as well or do they only work for witches and wizards?" Cause as cool as this was it'd be an awesome help for her future plans if it worked with creatures as well.

Toby's question caught her interest as well just as she had returned to her note taking. How would they be testing them to make sure they worked...no one here was injured were they? This had Hady glancing about the room for a moment checking that everyone was indeed just fine and well.

FearlessLeader19 06-19-2015 02:35 PM

A pat on the back from Botros! Adi had gotten quite a lot of that over the years as he was sure others had gotten. He smiled at the man's greeting before taking off for his seat.
...................

The Puff waved at his friends that greeted him but he eyed Ilia. He could tell something was off with her immediately. "Everything alright?'' he asked with concern as she took her seat which happened to be near his. If everything was not, he would have to talk to her later because Botros was getting started.

Adi made his notes though he would still tilt his head towards Ilia. He was wondering what was up with her. As for questions, Toby and Hades had already asked what he wanted to know though he was now wondering if they were going to practice, how they would do so. Was anyone injured? Any injured creatures around?

Govoni 06-19-2015 02:48 PM

.

.

Runic charms...Well, it was stated quite plainly on the blackboard. So, that wasn't too surprising. But...Gabe had to wonder about one thing in particular: said charm's material.

"Sir, do you think some metals work better than others depending on the type of charm? Whether it's healing, love, or protection, as you mentioned..."

Yes, his article about potions has made him consider this further. Or perhaps he was simply being a Ravenclaw and overthinking things.

It was quite possible.

Nabs 06-19-2015 03:28 PM

Alfie had his quill poised to take notes, but his mind had started wandering when Professor Botros mentioned synchronicity and other such big words. He looked around the class, checked his timetable once again, and wondered if maybe he was quite possibly... not meant to be here. Here, as in Hogwarts, maybe his muggle side was just a bit too strong and it was crushing his wizard side with every passing day and eventually he wouldn't even be able to see Hogwarts anymore!

He didn't notice, but he was tapping the tip of his quill quite rapidly on the parchment in front of him. Alfie was having a mini meltdown before the class had even properly begun.

feeheeheeny 06-19-2015 06:19 PM

Sophie smiled broadly at Adi and then Dot when the Slytherin sat near her, but there was no time for conversation as Botros was starting class. And boy, did he have a lot to say.

Runic charms, though. It sounded complex in the way he explained it, but... it really wasn't, was it? No, this didn't seem like it would be that complicated of a task, even though Botros was saying it was hard and complicated. But it was nothing they couldn't handle, right? They were his bright, super clever students. He wouldn't have been teaching them this if he didn't think they could handle it yet, yeah?

The others had good questions, and Sophie had none. So she remained silent and attentive, taking down notes all the while and brimming with excitement for their forthcoming activity.

Lissy Longbottom 06-19-2015 07:17 PM

Runic magic. Sounded like a lot of the same old stuff to Caleb. How could he possibly concentrate on this class when his rat was missing?! He still hadn't found him and he was starting to get seriously worried. Especially given the fact that a new snake had just been added to the Slytherin line up this year...that was definitely cause for alarm.

Questions? Um, nope. Caleb hadn't even really been listening all that well. Something about Odin. And healing. Yada yada yada.

MudInMyBlood 06-19-2015 07:19 PM

A bit more complicated? Erm... so like, everything that they had done up until this point had been a cake walk? AJ had always thought of Ancient Runes as being mega complicated and if the professor told them this was even harder... well then, sweet baby unicorns. This lion was in trouble. Big trouble.

She could fake a heat stroke. Merlin knew it was warm enough in here to get away with it. AJ was going to give this a shot. She was paying attention as best as she could. Oh, she did have a question but Hady had beat her to it. Yup, she too wanted to know if this would work on magical creatures. If so she had better really pay attention considering she was going to be healing them as a career.

oh its Erik ok 06-19-2015 07:23 PM

Nope, Dante had no questions other than what runic means. He described what the type of magic it was but not the word. But that would probably be a dumb question and probably answered as the class goes.

So yeah he wont be saying it out loud.

He would just wait to see if he could actually make healing charms. Though the other side is if you learn to heal you also learn to hurt. Since they are ying and yang thing. It was just interesting to think about.

Well to Dante it was

He was weird.

Anna Banana 06-19-2015 07:44 PM

Kate didn't mean to seem so UN-Ravenclaw, but what in the WHAT had just been said? She picked up enough to know the gist of what they'd be talking about, but Botros lost her at 'noticing and influencing synchronicity through intention, expectation, and merging'. Kate had questions alight, but they involved asking Botros to re-word eighty percent of what he'd just said, so she decided to keep her questions to herself.

She would find out more in all good time, though. In the meantime, she jotted down a few notes, which really consisted of the words 'Runic Charms', and listened as a few of her classmates chimed in with their own questions.

Weasley174 06-19-2015 08:24 PM

Angel took some notes then she looked at the Professor and raised her hand. "Professor, so if you heal it with the runes once and you then have similar injury, will the rune work again?" Angel was trying to figure out if she would be able to mean a broken bone twice or if once was enough. She also wanted to know why they needed healers if it was easy to do it with runes, surely the cost of using a healer was more than getting a simple runes, so surely you didn't need a healer right?

Casey O 06-19-2015 11:19 PM

Marigold had LOTS of questions, but most of them were along the lines of "are we going to act stuff out again?" because she LIKED that class.

But no. No real questions. She copied down notes and looked at Sophie Brown's pretty hair.
