Default The Room of Serenity

Welcome to The Room of Serenity. Professor Morgan feels that the best way to appreciate and really practice the arts of Divination is to clear the mind of all other thoughts and be in a place that opens up your sense. She has decorated in her favorite warm purples, light blues, and lavender scents. You will also hear relaxing, but stimulating to the mind instrumental music playing quietly.

The room is set up with round tables to work alone or with a small group, but there are no chairs. These tables are low enough to sit comfortably on the fluffy pillows. On the back shelves you will find any divination material you may need from stones, tarot cards, crystal balls, just to name a few items. You can also find posters and models of the hand for Palmistry as well as many astrology posters. In the front there are cupboards with tea cups, saucers, leaves, and kettles.

This room is for SNAC meetings and projects, but it is open to all students to come in to study or practice Divination. Just please be respectful and follow all classroom rules.

OOC: This room is for students and staff to RP. Please follow all classroom and SS rules. Just because Professor Morgan is not in the room doesn’t mean she won’t hear you.

Still holding her mug of hot cocoa in her hands Hady listened to everything Professor Morgan had to say. When they were told to go talk to the portraits she smiled slightly making her way up front for a book first. Just in case ya know?

It was always good to be prepared.

With her book in hand and her hot cocoa the brunette headed back to where all the portraits were. Whom should she talk to? Each one probably had tons of stories for her to listen to and she was sure she'd enjoy talking with any of them. Maybe one of them could help her decide?

Eyes scanning over each portrait the small girl nibbled on her lower lip in thought. Who to choose...who to choose...

Oh help her many portraits!

SPOILER!!: 1st question
"Now the form of Divination that we will be doing today in our meeting is oculomancy, can anyone tell me what that is and why the portraits could be used for it." It didn't have to be used on portraits, but why not use it when you could.

Hmmm. AJ wasn't too sure about the answer to this question but she was going to give it a shot anyways. "Does that have to do with reading into someone's mind?" As for the portraits... well, she didn't know. "Maybe they enjoy a good show." It was as good an answer as any.

SPOILER!!: 2nd portion
All of them were answering so well. It was no wonder they were her SNACinators. She snapped excitedly! "Very good, Oculomency is the study of the eyes. We of course would use this on individuals, but we can use it on the portraits. My friends here have agreed to talk with you so that you can study their eyes and determine what's going on through Oculomency. Now some of the portraits might be harder to determine what their eye color is, if you ask them they will tell you." She looked around at the portraits and the members.

"Now I'm going to let you go and explore, discuss, and enjoy the portraits. Grab snacks and have some fun. Meetings are not classes, so no need for the formalities that we use. I just want you to enjoy doing this and seeing what we find. While you are doing this take the opportunity to learn from the past as well. These portraits have plenty of stories to tell."

She snapped happily, "Books are up front if you need them."

Oh, so it was the eyes which was sort of the same thing if you asked her. This little activity seemed like fun, and AJ began to scan over the portraits to see which one she would like to "buddy up" with. Wait. The professor said they could have some snacks, so AJ stopped her portrait hunt immediately. She walked over to where the table was set up with delicious goodies and snagged her some cocoa and cookie. NOW she could properly get down to business.

Which portrait to take? AJ had no idea about the eyes and what they meant so she was just going to pick one and do what she could. Maybe a book would be a good thing. She grabbed one of those at the front of the room and flipped through the pages quickly. Maybe something would jump out at her.

All the portraits were excited to see the student. Well most of them at least. Edgar looked at the a little suspiciously, but he always seemed to look at everyone in that way.
Adi smiled brightly at all the portraits once more. He could see how different they were just by the expressions on their faces. One man was looking at them as though he didn’t trust them and another seemed excited about this as the Hufflepuff was.

His attention back on Professor Cassie, Adi downed the last of his hot chocolate. Might need a refill. Heh. Ah, Cassie was giving them permission to grab more snacks! Excellent! He would do just that. So, the fifth year refilled his cup, grabbed a few cookies which he stuffed in his pocket since he would be needing his hands to hold onto that text book.

After grabbing a book, he surveyed the portraits. Which to choose, which to choose? Oh! How about the one with the man who was eyeing them all so mistrustingly? (Edgar) Yesh! He’d be perfect. Hehe.

Adi marched up to the portrait, smiling broadly, book and cup of hot
chocolate in hand. “Hello, hello. I’m Aditya but everyone calls me Adi. I’m a fifth year Hufflepuff.’’ It was best to get introductions out of the way, yes? He studied the man’s eyes. What would they be telling him?

SPOILER!!: Nick and the Portrait!

Nicholas found Adi's honesty refreshing, and although the older boy admittedly didn't have much experience or faith in his divining ability, he had at the very least managed to doSOMETHING. In his four years at Hogwarts, Nicholas Kain had never managed to conjure up even the slightest hint of a vision, nor had he ever gotten a glimpse of the past or future. While the other students in Divination class were busy peering into eternity, opening their minds to the ebb and flow of time itself, Nicholas just sat there and stared at a Crystal ball. Empty, meaningless, colorless crystal. That's all he'd ever seen, and as far as he was concerned, that was probably all he'd ever see. Needless to say, he wasn't expecting today's exercise to go very well at all.

"At least you've managed to get into the right mindset once in your life. When it comes to divination, I may as well be a Squib." He sighed, defeated. He looked up at the older boy with a malformed smirk on his face as he suggested 'Nicky' and shook his head. "My father would kill me if he caught me actually encouraging nicknames, so if he's ever around, don't let him hear you calling me anything but Nicholas... But Nick is good." He smiled.

The portrait was helping them! This was good, as they'd need all the help they could get. Her advice, however, wasn't of much use to Nicholas. He had lost count of the numerous times a divination teacher had instructed him to 'Release his mind' or 'Open his inner eye', and then seemingly taken offense when he asked how. 'Just do it!' They'd told him. In all honesty, by this point, he was afraid to ask.

Still, he wasn't going to get anywhere if he didn't.
"How exactly.. do I open my inner eye?"
SPOILER!!: Adi and Nick
Inner eye

She listened to the boys and tutted with her mouth as they both seemed discouraged and not fully focused. "My dear boys, you need to calm your mind and open it up to the inner eye's awakening. Focusing on your discourage will only keep it closed." Looking back into her own ball she ran her hands over it a few times. "I see.. I see success in your future. I see the eye opening."

Hearing the next question she looked at the Ravenclaw, "You need to focus and stay calm. You need to let the gift awaken inside of you."
“Well, you could always try to change that now,’’ Adi suggested to Nicholas. “How about grabbing a crystal orb? You never know what can happen.’’ Maybe at least one of them will have better luck today. And he was all for encouraging someone to do their best. “Let’s aim for a shadow in the ball the very most.’’ Er, was that a safe aim? It sure sounded like one to Adi.

“Been there, felt that,’’
the Puffer replied in relation to feeling like a Squib. As a first year, he had wondered for a while if being a wizard meant he had to have the Inner Eye or whatever it was but of course his thoughts were wrong. Adi grinned. “Sure thing… Nick.’’ He wondered what the other boy’s dad had against nicknames but he didn’t push things. If Nick wanted to tell him what that was so, he would.

Calm your mind… yes. That could be difficult to do sometimes but it was something Professor Cassie also emphasised. “Professor Cassie says soft music also helps,’’ he told Nick and the portrait lady. But he stared now. “Really?’’ he asked excitedly. “That’s great!’’ She did have the gift, right? Not merely tricking them?

"I'll do my best..." Nicholas sighed reluctantly. He wasn't expecting much when it came to divination, but if he was anything at all, it was determined. He desperately wanted to be able to say he'd overcome his divination difficulty, and the only way to do that was to try - even if that meant being exposed to failure and embarrassment.

As hopeful as he was, he'd follow Adi's example, as he felt the older boy had a much better handle on divination than he did. He was very self conscious about his abilities, not only in divination, but in nearly every subject. He did well in most classes, but he set an unusually high standard for himself that he struggled to reach.

Nick looked back up at the portrait and sighed. Relax. Open your mind. It was all so confusing. How does one open ones mind? He was left saddled with more questions than answers. Still, he'd need to give it another go, and that he did. "So, what.. I close my eyes, and listen to soothing music and.. stop thinking?" He looked between Adi and the Portrait.

It looked like it was time to start. Greta looked at the students eagerly as they came up. Were they going to pick her? She wasn't sure, but some seemed to be hesitant to talk. Seeing the first child come over towards her she smiled, "Hello dear, I'm Greta Catchlove. Do you like cheese?" It was an important question.

Emric listened to Professor Morgan and huffed a bit, could tell the future by looking in their eyes? It wasn't the first time he heard the blonde say it, but it didn't make it any easier to think it would work. He was a portrait after all, she had seen things, but this wasn't about her or what she thought. No it was about helping the children, seeing one glance at her book she gave a small smile. "Good day, have you found what you needed in there?" Maybe she could show her once she did.

Edgar was still watching suspiciously. He wasn't sure if these students could be trusted and needed his Sneakoscope. Seeing a boy come directly towards him he kept a sharp eye on the others, but gave his attention to the boy. "Pleasure to meet you Aditya, I'm Edgar Stroulger inventor of the Sneakoscope." He liked to add that part in with a puff of his chest. "Hufflepuff is a good house to be in." He himself was a Ravenclaw, but he always trusted the Hufflepuffs the most.

Oops. Late. It was a good job Professor Morgan was alright with lateness at these meetings. It hadn't been an intentional thing; Toby had been tired as of late, and earlier while he was counting down the minutes before needing to come to this meeting, doing some personal research in a potions textbook, he'd fallen asleep. Not for too long, thankfully, but long enough to need to run up to the Divination tower. Long enough to have missed the first couple of minutes.

He'd slipped into the Room of Serenity with an apologetic look towards Professor Morgan, who was still talking. Toby took a seat, noting how relaxing it was in here and hoping he wasn't about to fall asleep again. That would be horribly impolite.

When they were informed to do so, Toby got up and retrieved a book, already flipping through it by the time he sat back down again. He read, trying to get a good idea of this before trying anything out, and at one point looked back up at the professor.

"Professor Morgan. How would this work if you tried to do a reading on someone with heterochromia. People whose eyes are more than one colour, I mean. Like, both of my eyes are blue and green, but they usually look mostly blue 'cause of the lighting, so I call them blue. But would that make a difference? And what about someone with one eye one colour and the other eye a totally different colour? Would that be a significant thing?" Toby assumed so. Divination seemed to be the sort of subject where the little things made a big difference sometimes. "Do they maybe get a mixed reading?" It'd be cool if the side of the face that either colour eye was on made any difference, but Toby couldn't see anything about it in the book, so he supposed it wasn't that significant. He flipped through the text some more.

And soon he'd get started and talk to the portraits. Promise. Once his brain had woken up a bit.

SPOILER!!: The Portraits
All the portraits were excited to see the student. Well most of them at least. Edgar looked at the a little suspiciously, but he always seemed to look at everyone in that way.

Hello everyone, so excited to see you all." Greta was excited, she hadn't been in the corridors since they closed up her passage way. Such a lovely password it was to use too. Cheese Charmer was always her favorite.

Emric looked out at the members of this little club the professor told them about, "Good day to you all." She was always up for helping the students, she just wished it wasn't Divination she was helping with.

Sybill stood in her portrait and put her hands up, "Welcome my dear children. It is lovely to be in your prescience. I feel that many you have the gift." She listened to Professor Morgan begin and nodded as the students answered. It had been a long time since she did that form of Divination.

So they got to interact with the Portraits? That was one bit of the Wizarding world that always fascinated Janelle. She was amazed at how the people in the portraits could move and talk and go from painting to painting. Before she started though, Janelle went up to get a book. She would definitely need that to get the job done.

Now it was time to meet the portraits. She did not know who she should talk to first so Janelle addressed them all. "Hello everyone. It's so nice to meet you all." She didn't want to offend anyone, but she couldn't do this forever so Janelle went over to the closest portrait. (Sybill) "Hi I'm Janelle and I'm very excited to be able to talk to you." You could always count on Professor Cassie to have a fun activity.

Sybill looked at them in the oddest expression. "Music my dear boy? That is a new way that I've never heard of. The gift just comes to those who have it and can clear their minds." She gazed into her ball a moment, "Though I think she has music in this room if you go touch your wand at the wall over there." She had seen it used before by the blonde. "Go on try it yourselves." She'd be quiet and let them work.
Adi continued to smile brightly. “That’s the spirit, Nick!''Hey, his own encouragement of the other boy was starting to make him feel determined and refreshed with enthusiasm as well. Woot! This encouraging thing could work both ways as well.

“It helps to calm me,’’ the Hufflepuff told the painting woman. Yep, he could attest that music is and always be one of the best things in this world. It was one of those things that never left you when you’re feeling down. Adi nodded at Nick. “If you like I could get the music on.’’ Since the woman had told him what to do to make it happen but if Nick didn’t want it, that was fine too.

Adi’s eyes darted back to the portrait. Struggle and accomplishment? “Struggle with OWL studies,’’ he said quickly. It was true. He was sleeping less hours now and it was a CHALLENGE to stay awake some days. Plus he said that because he didn’t want Nick to worry about some impending struggle.

“I’m going to have a go now.’’ Closing his eyes, he took a deep breath. He opened his eyelids and let his gaze fall randomly on the ball.

Adi figured that the portrait man never stopped looking suspiciously at persons. That wasn’t a problem for him. Balancing his book in his hand, he flipped it open to the appropriate page. “It’s super great to meet you, Mr Stroulger! Wow! That soooo cool!’’ He could hardly believe he was having a conversation with the man who invented the Sneakoscope! “That was a really brilliant idea you had to invent something like that.” And Adi had not missed the expanded chest. Nope. But he could hardly blame the man. That was something to be proud of.

Oh, it is. It’s the best House ever!’’ EXTREMELY PROUD Hufflepuff here! Hehe. “Excuse me,’’ the boy said and took a quick sip of his hot chocolate. Right, now it was time to go back to work. “May I ask how do you find your er… after life of being a portrait.’’ What? He always wondered what it was like to become a portrait. Was it boring?

As he spoke, Adi was consulting his text book. ”Now… what would I say the colour of his eyes is?’’ he pondered, tilting his head. Maybe it was better if he asked since it was sort of hard to determine. “Can you tell me your eye colour please?”

"Hello Greta, my names Hady" The young Slytherin introduced herself warmly. Shifting from one foot to the other she studied the women in the portrait intently. A small grin formed on her lips at the random question and she nodded her head. "Yes I do like cheese, do you?" Cheese was yummy.

Waiting for her answer Hady looked closely at Greta's face checking for her eye color and to see if she could tell anything about the women before her already. Right now not very much other then she seemed nice so far.

As the students started to talk with the portraits. She hoped that maybe it could help her learn more about some of them as well. Since they were all so eager to speak these days, it was the perfect time to do some readings and learning. Even the adults could learn some history of the castle and the portrait, she knew she could.

As she walked around she heard Toby's question, "That is a fantastic question." Moving closer to him she beamed, "With a person that has two tones, this means they are a more complex person. You place both in together to figure them out. So let's take your eyes. the green and blue." She flipped through the book and placed her finger down. "It seems your eyes are saying that you are a Pride, impetuousness, but also considerable passion and Forthrightness, gentleness, generosity, loyalty, modesty, and forgiveness, so in your lifetime your eyes are saying that you are caring and passionate, you have generosity and loyal." From what she knew of Toby this seemed to hit spot on.

" This is just the beginning forms of oculomancy to determined a persons self, the look into the future it gets a little more in depth with their focus, clearness, eye movements so not just about the color." She glanced around the room to make sure no one else needed her help as well. "Does that make sense?" She gave him snaps for his fabtastic question.

"Hello Deary, I am Sybill Trelawney." She made huge gestures with her hands as she moved to face the girl inside her portrait. "It is always nice to talk to the next generation of students with the gift." That's why they were here she assumed, because they had the gift. "What is it you'd like to speak about today my dear?"

He was rather disturbed by dust. He looked at the boy again and blinked his eyes, "Oh my eyes are brown." He almost forgot about the eye thing with the talk of his old corridor that he stood proud in. Maybe the Professor would put him back there when she was finished.

This meeting sounded like fun, so Lux was eager to start.

After eating another two cookies, she finished her tea; as she drank her eyes scanned the different portraits while she wondered which one to choose. All the ones she had spoken to so far were friendly so at least she didn't have to worry about anyone being rude to her.

Grabbing a book, Lux made her way over to the portrait of a woman who seemed to be excited (Greta). "Hello, I'm Lux! I'm a Fifth Year Hufflepuff." Smiling, she studied the woman's eyes to see what they would tell her.

They were going to be learning about oculomency today! This, like all of Professor Cassie's lessons and SNAC meetings, was going to be fun. Penelope grabbed a book so she could interpret the meanings of her readings. Her eyes were brown. According to the book, that meant consistency, hope, nobility, nervousness, and truthfulness. They were going to talk to the portraits now. Penelope approached on of the portraits and looked at it. What color were the person's eyes? "Hello, I'm Penelope!"

A complex person? That was pretty awesome, Toby thought, and it made sense in the context of these readings and stuff. The Hufflepuff nodded his head as Professor Morgan spoke, glancing at the parts of the textbook she was referring to as she mentioned them. He wanted to believe that all of that was an accurate depiction of him, that was for sure.

Smiling, Toby nodded. "It does, thanks Professor." His smiled widened into a grin at those snaps, too. "And it's all pretty interesting."

Sooooooo... did he still have time to talk to the portraits? Toby looked up at them now, trying to see if there was one that looked like it would be willing to interact. Maybe there was a little time left to do a reading? Or at least just have a chat.

Hady held back a small laugh when Greta squealed at her answer of liking cheese. Listening to the portrait the small girl tilted her head curiously when it came to a question about reading. Yes Hady read A LOT but never a book on cheese. "No, no I haven't but if the library here has it I will read it!" She admitted to her declaring however that she would read it.

Hady had to think about that question a moment before finally answering. "I love charms and transfiguration as well as Care of Magical Creatures." Yeah she couldn't just pick one. "What was your favorite lesson when you were here?" Clearly Greta went to school here when she was younger right? Why else would her portrait be in the castle. Might as well ask some more questions too. "What house were you in? I'm a Slytherin." She told her as if all the green on her clothing hadn't already given that away.

She should probably try to focus on her eye color now as well...what color were Greta's eyes? Did what the book say match how the woman appeared to act?

Adi was feeling quite comfortable talking to Edgar despite the suspicious looks he had received earlier. He wasn't up to anything, Mr Edgar. Hehe. But he was sorry to hear about the portrait being placed into storage. "Look on the bright side, Mr Edgar. At least you're out here now.''

Ohh, brown eyes! Like his! How had the Hufflepuff miss that? "Okay, I see here brown eyes indicate consistency, hope, nervousness, nobility and truthfulness.'' He raised his eyes from the text to look back at Edgar. "Is that why you're always looking around as though you do not trust persons? The nervousness of meeting a foe?'' It could tie in with the invention of the sneakoscope if that was the case... "Is that mistrust what prompted you to invent that sneakoscope?" Adi just had to know!

Seemed like Toby didn't have to do much to seek out a portrait to talk too, as one was addressing him. The Hufflepuff paused and looked around to make sure the subject of the portrait wasn't actually talking to anyone else, but when he concluded that she was, in fact, addressing him, he smiled and stepped up to the portrait.

Was he able to see her eye colour without asking? Worth a shot.

"Hi," the sixth year said to the portrait. "I'm Toby." It would be rude not to introduce himself, right?

Nicholas truly wished he could share Adi's enthusiasm, but past experience had told him time and time again that this wouldn't go well. Yet, he hoped this time would be different, and he'd finally manage to 'open his mind'. Then again, he hoped for that every time he tried.

"Music would be lovely." He gave a faint smile and a nod. He'd never really tried using music in the context of divination, but he couldn't imagine it being anything but helpful. Provided it wasn't too loud, of course. There was nothing more detrimental to Nick's concentration than loud music - in fact, it angered him when people played their music too loud. It was an arrogant, passive-aggressive way to announce to the people around you that you don't care whether you're disturbing them. The fact that it often got in the way of his studying may also have had a tiny bit to do with it, but you'd never catch him admitting that.

He'd been about to make an attempt at the crystal when he heard the portrait's little prophecy. 'Great struggle' he thought to himself. Gee, I wonder which one of us is going to struggle. He almost didn't want to try now, but he forced himself to ignore the dire warning and set to work trying to 'open his mind'.

Now, if only he knew how.

Cassie couldn't be more happy. He thought this was interesting, which of course it was, but she loved hearing that from her students. "You can learn a lot about people by Divination. It's like looking through a window of life." She was lost in her own thoughts about her favorite subject for a moment and all the possibilities that came with it. As Toby went to be with the portraits, she walked around the room watching.

She laughed at how excited Greta was and shook her head a bit at how stuffy Emric was. Such different personalities that she had gotten, but they were all wonderful and interesting to listen to. Sybill was her usual happy self and Cassie snapped encouragingly for all. "Very good everyone. The eyes can tell a story about a persons personality, how they are, who they are. They can also show signs of what could come in the future if you know how to put their eye reading with past events that they had in life and in the castle as a portrait together." It was like figuring out a puzzle. Which was super exciting!

OOC: Hey guys I'm going to wrap up the meeting in about twenty four hours, so have fun with the portraits and see what you can come up with for their eyes

Greta grinned at the girl, "It's a great read, be sure to pick it up." She was biased she knew, but it was a successful book, so it just had to be good. "I always enjoyed charms, it was one of my favorite subjects. This subject was always interesting as well." It's way she was so eager to help out. Oh and she was asking about her house, "I was a Gryffidor." Though she had many friends that were Slytherins.

"I am out now and I'm hoping your professor will find a nice place for me, maybe the sixth floor again. I so enjoyed that corridor." He just wanted to be hung again to watch the students. It was always quiet fun.

Listening as he spoke, even Edgar as suspicious of this subject as he was couldn't look over the fact the boy had just described him pretty well. "I have had enemies in my past Mr. Adi, so it was very important to invent my sneakoscope against them, plus the students all they ever wanted was the passageway and they were never afraid to rip my portrait to get to it." Though doing that made it impossible to open the secret passage. "But all in all I'd say you nailed it pretty good." Good job fellow Hufflepuff on knowing who he was based on an eye color.

Was he able to see her eye colour without asking? Worth a shot.

"Hi," the sixth year said to the portrait. "I'm Toby." It would be rude not to introduce himself, right?
As the boy came closer she studied him more, "Yes, yes your eyes don't lie to us. Everything the professor said, I see it too. You are very loyal and even if you had some hardships you still stand by the people you care for. Friendships get questioned at your age, such a fragile age, but your eyes say that you will get through it. Yes, I can see it in the greenish blue." Sybill was in the zone with looking into his eyes, her own Hazel/brown eyes big behind her glasses. She leaned closer in her portrait trying to get a better look.

Great! Nick was up for some music. “Coming right up!’’ Adi jumped to his feet to scurry off to the wall indicated by the portrait. Whipping out his hippogriff feathered core wand, he touched it to the wall and almost immediately soft instrumental music, the kind he had ever so often heard in this room and during some lessons, began to play. “Better, Nick?’’ Because Adi sure was feeling more focused. And his determination was there too. He wouldn’t be letting anything get the best of him today.

And so he was still gazing, totally focused and not letting any thought enter his mind. This was sort of new… the cleared mind since he was constantly being plagued by thoughts no matter how hard he tried. He was still being plagued by them right now but he seemed to be having an easier time keeping them away. Must be because of the portrait lady’s encouragement.

Adi seemed to be focusing on the crystal ball for what seemed like an eternity when he became aware of a shadowy figure in the crystal. His eyes immediately widened in shock and he moved his face an inch or so closer. Yes, it was a shadow, all fuzzy so he couldn’t exactly make out what it was. He blinked and it was gone. But he knew he hadn’t imagined it! The fifth year quickly checked behind if to see if there was a possibility there was an object reflecting but there was none.

He looked up at Nick excitedly to tell him this development but the other boy seemed to be focused on what he was doing.

SPOILER!!: Edgar! ^_^

“I’ll ask her also,’’
Adi told Edgar cheerfully. Professor Cassie was nice and he knew she would do the best she could. Speaking of the woman, where was she? He took a quick sip of his ho chocolate as he scanned the room. There she was! “Excuse me, Professor. Could Mr Edgar’s portrait here go back to being hung on the sixth floor corridor? He doesn’t like being in storage.’’ Who would be?

Ah. Enemies. Adi couldn’t imagine having those. He could deal with persons disliking or hating him but having enemies? There was enough violence and revenge seeking in the world as it is. “That’s bad about the students ripping at your portrait but something good did come out of having enemies since you were able to invent the sneakoscope.” This boy and finding the bright side of dull situations… he supposed it was a good trait of his. “If you get hung somewhere around the school, I’ll come visit you and you can tell me more about your life.’’ Adi was very sure this meeting would be ending soon.

Feeling mighty pleased he had been able to hit the nail on the head in terms of speculating on Edgar’s life, Adi added, “It’s safe to say that there’s another reason why you look at us suspiciously. It’s because of what those past students did to your portrait.’’ So, technically it was his foes during his actual life and the treatment he received by students here as a portrait that made Edgar so suspicious.

"I plan on it." Hady assured her with a firm nod of her head. When she said she would do something she would so no worries there. "I agree I've learned many useful charms already. What's your favorite charm that you learned back in school?" The second year agreed flipping the pages of the book she had opened in her hands. Eyes going from Greta to the page as she searched for the proper eye color written in the book. Blue eyes. Hady had realized that in her moment of assessment of the portrait while she was talking to her.

According to the book blue eyed people tended to be generous, loyal, gentle, forgiving and several other traits. It seemed like it could be right...the brunette lifted her eyes from the book to look towards Greta once more. Gryffindor huh? They were usually very loyal people. "My best friend is in Gryffindor", she replied grinning for a moment.

Not sure what to really ask she focused on Greta's eyes like she was supposed to. They were bright and shinny speaking of happiness or at least that's what Hady got out of it. It seemed right really as Greta was very talkative, happy and excited which made this a lot easier.

Toby stayed quiet and watched the portrait as its subject spoke to him. He was acutely aware that the woman was looking into his eyes and trying to glean something from them and, though it made him feel strangely self-conscious, he made sure to look at her and not away or anything. Wanted to make it an easy job for her, seeing as she was taking an interest.

Divination was strange in that it always gave Toby that weird spine-tingling feeling. He didn't know if it was because of the attention he was given when someone did a reading for him, or because it could be so accurate it was sort of weird (good weird). Either way, it was happening now. He nodded at the portrait, his own eyes wide. Loyal, yeah? That was good. He prided himself on being loyal. Hardships was about right too.

"Yeah..." Toby replied, almost absentmindedly as he thought about it. "... Yeah." Yeah.

Wait. Waaiiiit. He needed to do the reading too, awesome though it was to have the portrait read HIS eyes. But this way it sort of worked as a trade-off.

"And you," he piped up suddenly, stepping just that bit closer to the portrait and peering up at the woman, then at his book, then back again a few times. "Your eyes are saying that..." Uhhh... "That you're truthful, 'cause of the brown. But they're also kinda hazel, which means you're sincere... which both go together pretty well. And you're intelligent too, I can tell-" mainly because of the conclusions about Toby she'd come to "-and friendly too." Based on the evidence.

Whether any of this registered to the woman, Toby didn't know. But Professor Morgan might have heard him, at least. And it was good to have the practice, even if no-onehad heard. He would have liked to go into more detail about the eyes, like... the size. But the woman in the portrait wore glasses that made her eyes look massive anyway (which was how he could see them so well), so he couldn't be certain.

Awww, this woman seemed so sweet. "Nice to meet you, Greta. I like your name." And oops it seemed like she was staring which didn't come across as being friendly. Lux hoped that the portrait didn't mind. "I was looking at your eyes. I see that they are blue."

Quickly she glanced at the page in her book that dealt with eye colours. "The book says that this means 'forthrightness, gentleness, generosity, loyalty, modesty, and forgiveness'." She wondered if this was true for Greta but she would wait a little longer and see for sure.

Wanting to keep the conversation going, Lux decided to ask a few questions. "What House were you in when you went to Hogwarts? And what was your best subject?" It was interesting talking to portraits and she wanted to learn a lot about them.
