Default The Fireplace

Hogwarts' kitchen is an enormous, high-ceilinged stone room, as large as the Great Hall. There are mounds of bright, shiny brass pots and pans heaped around the stone walls and a great brick fireplace at the other end, which the House Elves use to cook and sit upon when in need of a break. Looking to cook your own meal? No need! The house elves will be REALLY happy to serve you, now that they're back at Hogwarts.

If you're by the fireplace, then you're at the other end. Careful how you get here, though; the House Elves are a bit touchy about students invading and acting like they own their private workspace....

OOC: Please do not RP for the House Elves! We have a lovely group of actual elves who would love to RP with you if you will please be patient.

The brunette girl then made another s'mores with double chocolate and double marshmallows because she could then ate them with just a bite. If she didn't remember that those things belonged to Kace, she might eat them all by herself. Well, she still had freshly-baked muffins

She didn't remember when did she start being a stress eater like this.

"Well, I dunno exactly. My folks said that the things that I baked are good. But I still think my mom is the best baker, I learned so much from her." Bianca learned to bake when she was twelve and the first thing that she could bake perfectly was triple chocolate muffins, the one that she baked for now.

Oops.

Had she told him that the milk was still hot? Maybe not. She couldn't help but chuckled. "Sorry, I forgot to tell that the milk was still hot. You okay?" The brunette girl asked.

Kace nodded and now he was curious, "Does your mom own a bake shop or anything?" I mean if she was a great baker that she said she was then why not? "What did you learn from her?" he asked. After he burped he felt a burning feeling and realized the milk was hot. He coughed and smirked. "Yeah I realized that now.." he said. "My throat feels kind of hott." he laughed. "But I will be fine, I am gonna get some cold water.." he got up and went to the kitchen and got some water. He gulped some down and that relieved the burning sensation.

As he came back and said, "Aaahh much better..." He sat down in front of the fireplace and began to stare into the flames. They were soo pretty just dancing on the log. "You excited for the holidays coming up and especially Hogsmeade?"

With her notebook at the ready Emmylou looked around different spots of the castle to find some stray kitty cats. Nope, she was still not a fan of cats but this was hopefully the last time that she would ever need them for a class. But this homework was for divinations and it's her favorite class ever so she would have to suck it up and deal with it. This is what it's like to make scarifies in life or so this felt like one to Emmylou.

She looked up from her notebook and let her dark blue eyes search for whatever cat was in here. No such luck yet. Emmylou took a seat near the fireplace, as she sat down she put her notebook and pen on the floor.

The soothing heat from the fire was making Emmylou's eyes grow heavy. Her dark blue opened when she saw something orange walk towards her. She sat straight up blinking a couple times. Emmylou hurried and grabbed her pen and notebook to take notes. She opened her notebook to a blank page and began to write quickly.

Quote:

Emmylou hurried up and opened her notebook up to see what this strange behavior mean. She used her pointer finger to look for what this orange cat was doing.

So when a cat points his or her tail towards any fire it means that there will heavy rain or frost but it's too cold for rain so I think that it means that there is a chance that it will be a little frosty. I don't know when it will happened but it will or so the cat is telling me it will. I have trust issues with cats.
Emmylou closed her textbook, notebook and stood up slowly because she didn't want to scare the cat into the fire. TOO LATE! WHAAAA! The fifth year dropped her books and ran over to the cat that was trying to play in the fire. She picked up the cat and glare at it. "Are you trying to die? Bad kitty! Good thing you have nine lives...I guess." Emmylou said in the strictest tone that she could manage. As much as she didn't like cats she didn't one of them to die. Off to find more kitties.

When he asked if her mother own a bake shop or not, the brunette girl shook her head. "Nope. She's a housewife who loves baking very much. I started baking when I was twelve, she taught me how to make triple chocolate muffins that I baked now. She did teach me to bake many things, not only the sweet treats but also the savory ones since my cousin doesn't like sweets." Yeah, Gary was a weirdo, he didn't like sweets and until now she still didn't know why in the world he didn't like it.

Bianca then grabbed the muffins and handed it to Kace after he'd solved his problem with the hot milk. "Try it." She suggested. She also took one of them, it's still warm enough and such a good companion for her chai latte. Taking her first bite, she could taste that the muffin was very chocolate-y, moist, light, rich, gooey and not very sweet. She'd never been failed to bake this recipe until now. Triple chocolate muffins was like her signature baking besides the apple pie.

That makes her wanted to bake apple pie. She wasn't a fan of apple and the only way of her enjoying that fruit was making it into the stuff of her pie or turnovers.

Holidays? Yes, PLEASE! Bianca needed to take a break from school and NEWTs preparation. "I'm really looking forward for it. I seriously need a break and new atmosphere. Besides, my cousin notified that he's staying in London for spending Christmas with me and my twin." She beamed and sipped back her chai latte. "Pretty sure that my parents would join too. They always came to London for Christmas since I cannot go back home." It happened since her parents moved back to Canada four years ago.

"Well, how about you?" The brunette girl asked while she was grabbing another muffin. Seriously, Bianca?

The puff was impressed with Bianca's, she had been baking since she was twelve. "Well that is quite impressive to say the least. I mean I know my grandma taught me to cook like simple recipes. I think we should bake together sometime and share ideas. What do you think?" he asked the lady snake. It would be pretty cool to be bake together. After almost burning his throat on the hot milk, he grabbed the muffin and thanked her. He began to eat it and thought they were amazing! "Bloody hell these are good.." he said and ate it soo fast it was like he swallowed it. "Compliments to the baker.." he bowed his head.

Now onto the topic of holidays. His favorite topic that is. He raised his eyebrows learning Bianca is a twin. "That is quite cool you are a twin. Do you guys read each others minds?" He was quite curious about that. Oh now onto him? He shrugged and said, "Well I know I am going to go skiing with my family. My cousin is bringing his girlfriend. So that is gonna be fun. I hope to see my girlfriend during the holidays and she is gonna stay in Kansas which is where I live back home. I hope to have lots of snowball fights and build snowmen and just eat." he grinned and now wanted some hot cocoa right now. "I mean my holidays aren't as impressive as yours." he winked just teasing a little bit.

Making her way over to the fireplace, Lux was a little glad to see that she had arrived before Puck. It meant she would have an opportunity to sit by the warmth of the fire for a bit before getting started on the History of Magic homework.

Getting settled into one of the chairs, she moved it a little closer to the fire and watched the flames. Now would be an amazing time to make s'mores and it really sucked that none of the Professors gave them cooking for homework besides the one time that Professor Botros had a few terms ago.

Maybe she and Puck could make something to eat when they were done since they were already in the kitchen and everyone loved baking.

~ Rise and Rise Again, Until Lambs become Lions ~

It was early. Ridiculously early. Around the time of 'one-should-still-be-asleep' and 'parents-go-to-work-at-this-forsaken-hour' early. Problem was, she couldn't sleep. And she did try. She just couldn't.

So, the best thing she had decided, was not to sleep. It was late-early enough that she could plod around the school without someone harping on her for doing so. But just in case she caught the crankies of a newly awakened Professor, Amur had quickly slipped down to the kitchens. She had found what she had been looking for quickly.

A tall pitcher of milk, a glass and a bag of cookies. And a warm fire.

With her comfort food, she had ambled over to the fireplace and sat down on the heated stones. She poured herself some milk, dipped a cookie in and began nibbling on the ends as she stared into the flames. Flames that washed all thoughts and awareness away.

Nicole headed towards the fireplace, excited to meet one of her Eagle Comrades. She noticed as soon as she arrived that she was slightly eariler than Penelope. She was not used to checking the clock before leaving her dormitory and was always either early or late, never on time. It was okay though, as she could sit down by the fire and get herself warm while waiting.

She took two blue cushions out from her bag and sat down on one, putting the other one on the ground next to her. The March air was getting warmer everyday and therefore Nicole did not find the need to sit right in front of the flames. She was not afraid of burning her hands away.

Nicole looked towards the kitchen, where she had tried to make an apple cobbler with Chance a good couple months ago. She missed the place; the pots and pans, House Elves and smell of food. Maybe if the older Ravenclaw liked cooking, they could go to the kitchen and get something to eat.

Maddox was now convinced that the weirdest dreams happened when you fell asleep in your seating area on one of the comfy scented chairs. Legit. He could have sworn he saw a student--smelled on too--walking by and heading away but that wasn't a thing. No one woke this early and he was probably seeing things. One of those lucid dreams most like.

He got up to re-curl and fall back asleep as one did when they'd already spent essentially the entire night in one place but even in the dimly lit corridor he began thinking less and less of it as being a dream. Human scent contrasted against cold concrete in quite the noticeable manner leaving him with two choices; heading into his room for a proper sleep or following.

What were the chances the kid would die walking through the corridors at this hour?

In the end he gave a lazy stretch then hopped onto the floor. Following it would be and so he did, padding softly on all fours while he tracked the student. The journey finally ended at the kitchen where he hopped through the entrance before it had time to close but once inside, he opted for the form of a man again--to avoid another lecture about being a cat as it was Miss Neverwinter that he'd smelled; 97% sure of it.

"You'll ruin your appetite, you know." He stated, casually moving from the dark kitchen and over to the wall by the fireplace.

Amur was just swirling the milk around in the glass she had brought, and just about to take a larger nibble on the cookie, when Professor Quiet Toes appeared from the darkness, giving her yet another fright. The milk sloshed violently close to the brim of her glass as she jerked forward, startled, nearly dropping her cookie.

She couldn't help the narrowing of her eyes or the frown on her lips as she watched the man take up residence by the fireplace. He had not looked so unsettled and ruffled himself, she may have felt more frustration towards him. As it was, the understanding of being up at such an unsightly hour tempered her.

"Appetite for what? Breakfast is ages away, and I've got two hollow legs." Truth. Eating competitions were a thing for her.

Glancing at the man and then the milk in her hand, Amur hesitated before holding it out to him in offering. He looked like he could use just as much of a pick-me-up as she could. She would have offered him cookies too, except that they were kind of prize possessions at the moment, and required climbing on a shelf to obtain more. Plus, cats liked milk right? More than cookies.

Oh, wait... was that a floatie in the milk....?

Hardly here two minutes and the girl was already frowning at him. That had to be a new record of sorts. Wasn't his fault she had shaky hands...then again, his entrance could have been done with some sound, help the poor girl out.

No changing that now.

Maddox let her have the point about breakfast, if only for the part about hollow legs. "The same could be said about one of my daughters." He commented with a chuckle. Sophie ate...A LOT and it made no sense considering her size and age of 3 but the kid was a bottomless pit that would eat herself sick if you didn't stop her.

He shook his head at the offer of her milk. "Keep it, I'll have my own." Because now he was staying, at least until she was done her snack and ready to head back to her Common Room. Occasionally the man had these bouts of responsibility that drove his actions and this might be one of those times.

The Charms Professor doubled back into the dimmer half of the kitchen to grab his own glass then came back to pour some of the milk from the pitcher next to her. "What's bugging you at this hour?" You know, when normal people tended to still be ASLEEP? Just curious.

Amur's mood brightened a little. at not only his acknowledgement but the revelation that he had kids of his own. It made sense, to a degree, though she felt that if he had kids perhaps he shouldn't ask so many questions about their habits. Then again, when it came to his reaction to the answers given, he was a pretty understanding fellow. Especially right now, letting her have cookies and milk for pre-breakfast.

"Thank you, for not telling me 'no'." Seriously. Double points for an awesome dude and by extension awesome father. Could students give Professors points?

Not only that, but he was going to join her? Perhaps she should share her cookies then?

Amur retracted her offer of the milk, looking at the cookie-floatie with one eye. "I swear I didn't spit in it." Nope. Just cookie crumbled in it.

Her eyes drifted to the small stack of cookies she had beside her and after a moment in which she scooted back a little to let the man sit if he wanted, she separated it in half. One half was kept by her side and the other was placed across from her, in front of his sitting area. She was very careful not to touch them too much. People had a thing about other people's hands on their food.

Once that was all done, she turned her eyes up to the Professor. "Probably the same thing that's bugging you." Or else why would he be awake, sharing in the pre-breakfast meal? Why else would half the castle be awake, if still in their beds.

Maddox flopped into the spot offered across from her, instantly making himself as comfortable as the situation would allow. Under the circumstances, he supposed it was good this wasn't too comfortable or he might fall asleep on the poor girl.

He shrugged at her thanks. "What difference would it make? I'd say no, you sneak food back to your Common Room, I'd be gracious enough to ignore the smell while we walk then you'd sit by the fire there for the rest of the night. All I've done is save us a second walk." Which worked out magnificently for the man who'd had a long day and an utterly too short night for his liking.

"An early morning snack never hurt anyone." Maddox took a sip to conceal the sheepish smile that threatened to blow his responsibility cover. "Besides, you don't have my lesson first. No chance you'll be late." So........not really his problem, geddit?

Also, this was some good milk. Just saying.

The cookies were noted but pushed to the back of his mind for now. The milk was enough and if he felt the need to munch something, he would find himself some apples. For now he'd sip on his milk and listen to the First Year. "You had a First Year walk by your seating area that you accidentally fell asleep in too?" The girl had said it was the same thing bugging them both.

Penelope looked around and spotted her Eagle Comrade buddy sitting the fireplace. Was she late? Or maybe Nicole was early? She headed over to where Nicole was sitting. "Hi Nicole. How are you?" Taking a seat on the cushion next to Nicole, Penelope smiled at the second year. Penelope did not spend a lot of time in the kitchens, but she did like to bake cookies. Maybe Nicole would want to bake cookies with her. "Do you like cookies? I like to bake cookies. We can bake cookies together if you want to.” It would be fun to bake cookies.

Amur nodded slowly to each of his points about why it would be a bad idea to say no. He really had this thing worked out, didn't he? In case people asked why, he had a nice back-up. Smooth thinker, and fast. A final nod came from Amur along with a shrug. "My thoughts exactly, too."

Not really, but it was how things would have played out. She simply lacked the years of age that would allow such accurate foresight. If she had them, then she would have thought the same. But seeing as how she would have done as he said, it didn't feel like any sort of lie to say that she agreed.

A small smile touched Amur's lips as she put the cookie back to her mouth. "I'll never be late for your class. Ever." Did he not remember the dragons? And the permission to make said dragons? Which she wanted to show him how good she had got at doing so, but his next words stumped her.

She blinked at him once, twice, three times before shaking her head ever so slightly. "No....but I had ghosts and spiders walking through my dreams." Her brows knitted together and she leaned forward. "Don't Professor's have rooms of their own? Or do you have to sleep in your offices?"

Was this going to be another house-elf like endeavor? No clothes for the elves, no proper beds for the teachers. Hogwarts needed a rehaul.

She grinned at the mention of cookies. "Yes, I do," Nicole replied with a nod. "What is your favorite type of cookie? I love oatmeal ones." Oatmeal cookies that her mother made were so yummy! She let her thought wander back to home for a moment. "Sure, that would be fun. Though I have to tell you that I am not a baker myself," she admitted. The girl hoped Penelope woule help her to complete difficult steps.

Well of course she agreed, the man expected nothing less. How many children did exactly as they were told the first time they were told?

Besides all the technicalities, he would also probably need some roar in him and it was toooooo early for that. There was a time limit on disciplining petty cases for reasons. Quite plainly 'aint NOBODY got time for that. Especially not when sipping milk and having a light conversation was an alternative option. Sip.

The fact she'd never be late for one of his classes warranted a grin. Sure it was one of the rules but he didn't think that was the reason behind it considering he'd never had a reason to blow up at her and she didn't know the full force of his occasional, short lived wrath. "Excellent." The grin dimmed some though, when she mentioned ghosts and spiders. Maddox could have made the point that neither were particularly scary but then many could make the point that HEIGHTS were nothing special either so he nodded. "You should try transfiguring a dragon next time, see if it can take you somewhere else." Unless she was one of those with impossible dreams that ended up following you EVERYWHERE.

Wouldn't THAT be horrid?

That look right there. It was that look that encouraged his behaviour. Such naivety. "I don't suppose it's so bad. Being a cat gives me an advantage over the other Professors while we stay in our offices. I have a nice plush cushion, reckon most of them just sleep at their desks." Someone would set her straight later, but it wouldn't be him. "It was quite the sacrifice giving up my warm bed to teach here for this very reason but..." and a casual shrug, "you get used to it."

Amur blinked at him. Once. Twice. Three times. On the fourth, she realized that she was on the brink of letting her milk and her cookie slip out of her hands. Amur tightened her grip and leaned forward, wide eyes and all. She dropped her voice, barely above a whisper.

Not only did she want to advertise that she was having bad dreams to the world, but she didn't want to scare away the possiblity of learning how to control said dreams. "You can do that? How?"

More importantly .... "How come we don't learn useful stuff like that in class?"

Not that dragons weren't useful, but child-problems Professor Knowledge. Child problems.

And then there was that. THAT. Amur pulled back and this time did slosh some milk over her hand and onto her pantleg. She didn't notice though. She was too busy staring. Just, starting. He couldn't be telling the truth, surely. No, surely not. But then...he'd been straight with her from get-go. From the self-help book to the dragons to letting her have her morning snack.

He didn't strike her as the type to pull someone's leg. And if he did, or was, then it was a very bad joke. A very bad one indeed. But things like these were not to be joked about. And Amur took all such accounts very, very seriously.

Her nose twitched, her ears burned and her lips pursed into a thin line. She was forming a mission plan as he went through his woes. It was just as bad as the house elves. Almost worse. And what was horrid? It made sense. She had never seen nor heard of Professor's quarters, and they were always just...around. Wandering around.

Straightening her back, Amur gave him the most serious, adult-like look she could manage. "Will you testify to that?"

At first, Maddox didn't notice the look on the First Years face but when he did, the man wasn't sure what to make of it. She said she had bad dreams and he gave her a solution...or was she the type to not want to be given a solution so she could figure one herself...?

Gryffindors were strangely independent from what he'd seen and how he himself was but then he was a special case; lazy enough to accept help when he couldn't be bothered. "Of course you can, in fact I'd think it's a lot easier than conjuring them in real life. Dreams are built on imagination. Even if you got the incantation and wand movement wrong you'd just have to want there to be a dragon and chances are you'd have a massive one at your aid." Wouldn't even need an enlarging charm. Dreams were odd things at times.

"I'm not sure I'm following though...why don't we teach what in classes?" Dragon making? Dream changing? Had he missed something?

Before the man could fully question that he found himself in a little fix, much like the one he'd found himself in when he told Dima he was a kidnapper. Children...were too quick to believe and he was the lesson that would teach them not to be.

That being the case, Maddox downed his glass of milk then rest it down next to him with a now very solemn expression on. "I would be absolutely willing to testify, but." Wasn't there always a 'but'? What kind of story would it be without one? A shoddy one. "The Headmistress won't like it. She forces us into these non-disclosure agreements, we're not meant to talk about it because it'll invite too much unwanted attention and that'd be bad for the school you understand. Other things would start coming out; horrible things; dangerous things; the stuff of real nightmares."

He poured himself another glass then reclined once more. "You're as new as I am so I bet you haven't heard of the one Professor that decided to speak out. Poor thing, she was only trying to make a change." Would she bite? He had a WHOLE nother story behind THIS one.

Amur pursed her lips and wrinkled her brow. "Why don't we teach useful things like this in class? Like...life things. Things about how to deal with life." Because dreams were a part of life, sometimes wonderful and sometimes down-right problematic. She fixed him with a stare. "For instance, that sounds amazing. Being able to conjure a dragon in my dreams, make them good again, escape on them. Except that I have no idea on how to control my dreams."

That was a skill, as far as she was concerned. One that she didn't have.

"Or knitting. Why does no one know how to knit anymore?" That, was an extremely important question too Mr. Inception. It needed a good answer. The fate of doilies rested upon it.

And then, he went and did that, the downing of the milk. The sure, tell-tale sign that things were going down! That this was as serious as serious business got. Amur copied him, put her glass to the side, folded her hands in her lap and leaned forward. She was listening. Closely and with great attentiveness. Nothing that he said would slip past her ears. She was good at listening....when she wasn't talking.

The agreement to testify was good news, but the 'but'. It hooked her like a bull trout. She leaned forward some more. Her eyes narrowed, her lips pursed and the wheels in her small mind turned. She tried to imagine what other things there were, what horrible things could come. "What do you mean, would come? As in, come to the school? Or more things would be revealed about what actually goes on her? Or....would she bring those things to silence you?"

Had that been what the attack in the forest had been about? Had the boy known something?

That thought sent a shiver down her spine as Maddox's next words echoed her thoughts. "No. I haven't heard." She shouldn't ask...she shouldn't. "What happened?" It was her responsibility to know, she decided. If she was going to try to help, she had to know.

Nod. Nod. Nod.

Nod. Nod. Nod.

Ah so that's what she meant. Dream changing and....knitting.

Right. No questions here. 'Sides knitting had yarn and yarn was lovely. "I'm not exactly sure...but it's something you might suggest. Airey's particularly good at knitting and all other forms of womanly sport." Not really, but Merlin sometimes Maddox questioned that with all the 'manly squealing' his friend did. It...just wasn't helping. "It's something I'll look into if I can." Perhaps a lesson for next term...

But for right now he was having too much fun to think about work and lesson plans and the like. This...was possibly more amusing than taunting Mister Toussaint, something he was no longer allowed to do anyway.

Maddox would be milking this for all it was worth so he was sure to keep a grave expression as he continued. "I mean things will start coming to light, things you didn't know happened around this place and she can't have that. No one would send their children anymore, we'd all be out of a job. It's a cruel reality but Hogwarts safety is all a lie we tell to line our pockets. Something I'm terribly ashamed to admit but it's the only means to support my family especially now with my wife ill and unable to work."

She'd probably kill him if she heard him now but good thing she was all the way back in England, yeah?

Ahem. "She has her ways of keeping everything silent and everyone even more silent." And then it happened, she took the bait and Maddox had to internally reprimand himself for nearly blowing his cover. Thankfully the grin stayed away from his expression completely. "Well I'll tell you, but you shouldn't go repeating it, you'll scare the others. Her name was Professor Adele Rodney and she decided to advocate sleeping arrangements for the staff. At some point she tried starting protests that hit the Daily Prophet but once that happened they say she was dragged down to the dungeons--much like your classmates are when they misbehave--" Ever wondered what happened to them down there? Hmmmm? "and strung her upside down then crucio-ed her til she'd lost her sight and hearing completely." He took a loooong sip of his milk after that. "Once she was of no use to herself, they chucked her into the lake and you can imagine she'd been laying there ever since."

Airey? Did he mean... "Professor Flamsteed?" The one with pebbles? Somehow, that made sense. Maybe it was the fact that he had Pebbles. Knitting just seemed to .... fit.

She nodded with determination. "I will ask him." To start up classes. To incorporate it into classes. Maybe they could even make dollies that represented stars or some such, to tie it into the lesson plans. And she would ask him about womanly sports too, if she took an interest in joining said sport. Really, she preferred competing at the same level of the boys, so that was less likely.

But dollies and sports and lessons and stars would have to wait. Grave matters were afoot. And this man, was a man with honor. He had let her stay up, eat cookies, helped her with bad dreams and agreed that it should be taught at Hogwarts. This, was a man she could trust and rely on. This, was a man she believed.

So, she hinged on every word, nodding and leaning forward. She wouldn't interrupt him, wouldn't speak until he was done speaking. But her eyes did get wider, her lips pursed more and her brows knitted tighter. This was not good. No. Scratch that. It was horrible. Unacceptable. Horrendous. It had to be stopped. That woman they called a Headmaster...misteress...something...she had to be stopped. Taken down and taken out. Like old rubbish. It was time to put things straight at Hogwarts.

As terrifying and chilling as the story was about Professor Adele Rodney, she knew one thing for certain. She couldn't sway or balk. If the story was supposed to scare her, it did. But it also made her angry. Angry that such a woman existed. That she had everyone under thumb and heel. And it made her determined. Boldly, brashly determined. There was a path, a course and she would stick to it. Taking a shaky breath in, Amur shoved the rest of the cookie down her throat, pounded back the milk and fixed Professor Maddox with determination born on milk-mustache lips.

"First off, Professor Rodney went about things wrong." Wrong sources, wrong approach, wrong everything. No wonder she had ended up dead. She had read about things like this in her father's murder-mystery novels. There were ways to approach such matters, ways to pack the most punch.

"Second off, she hasn't met me yet." But she was about to. Oh the Truebridge had something coming.

Slipping off the stone seating area, Amur pat-pat-patted Professor Brave's shoulder. "If I go missing, or don't come back. Assume the worst. Go to the MLE and tell them you finally have proof. They will protect you and your family, and put an end to this." Sucking in a breath, Amur drew back her shoulders and readied herself for her plan. "I promise you, I will not let this sit quietly. I promise you, this will be set right."

He SHOULD have felt bad about whatever he'd just gotten Airey into but right now he was too busy trying not to crack up at the obvious concern in the Gryffindor's eyes.

Oh man...she...she really bought this...didn't she?

Merlin, THIS was why you didn't lie to the brave at heart, it was classic. For his part, Maddox maintained the same expression throughout. If she wanted to believe then far be it for him to stop her. In any case, she couldn't sleep so she might as well had found something to do with her time, yes? Yes. It was people like him that kept children gainfully occupied when they couldn't sleep.

"Be brave, Miss Neverwinter. If you find yourself in a fix remember, you are better than Adele Rodney."

What? Did you think he would discourage her? Absolutely not. She obviously knew what she was getting herself into. "I suppose I'll turn in here for the rest of the night. The fire is so much more inviting than my office." Too much? No?

Maddox got up with a lazy stretch before shrinking into the form of a cat once more and curling up by the fireplace. It WAS lovely here, in case anyone was wondering.

"Of course I'm better than Adele Rodney." And of course she was brave too, but that would be bragging, right? And bragging was no good. No, comparisons were better. Somehow. "I'm not going to die."

There. Truth comparison. Totally better.

The Professor's resignation to sleeping here, on stone in a kitchen only stiffened her resolve. She knew what she had to do. And she had to do it now. The cat was out of the bag....quite literally. Amur watched with fascination as the Professor morphed back into a cute little black cat. One which she had to remind herself that cuddling was completely off limits.

"Don't worry Professor. This will be set right." And with that determination, she stuffed one cookie up her sleeve for good luck, poured the rest of the milk in the man's glass for later consumption and stomped out of the office.

It was early in the morning, the sun was set to rise, the roosters had not yet cawckled and already the board had been set. First move was hers. And she was going to take the queen.
