Library Study Area

http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h2.../StudyArea.jpg

Way back behind the many bookshelves and bookcases a cozy area has been created for any Hogwarts student interested in his or her reading. It's a big comfy area with clusters of armchairs and tables surrounding magical reading lamps which give off different levels of light all appropriate for reading. The clusters are perfect for study groups or group projects.

Here and there a few lone armchairs and tables can be found for a student to enjoy some solitary reading, and a number of comfy sofas for any who wants to stretch out and put their feet up. Just, make sure they aren't muddy!

A soft glow of light is present throughout the area with more magical reading lamps in each possible reading space. Be sure to keep your voices down and respect those students who wish to read in quiet.

No food or drink is allowed in the study area!

Happy reading!

anyone, it could be YOUUUU *waves around a 'free post' sign*

Okay, okay so it was lame. It was extremely lame. But you know what? There was no one here to witness how lame he was being anyways. While most of the student population was probably out doing fun leisurely activities, Zander Adair was sitting behind a pile of books that probably measured up to his hips had they been on the floor. OWLs man, as if this year wasn't already painful enough without them.

Speaking of painful, it was yet another reason why he had chosen this particular place of all particular places he could have particularly chosen. The least likely person to be found in a library was none other than Bart Maroon. Which meant, that if he went to the library he would be far away from any pranks that the other Gryffindor had in store for him. As if the itching powder and hairloss potion weren't enough.

Man, he knew Lottie was right about the whole 'ignore him' thing, but it wasn't easy. So avoiding it was the best way to stay out of trouble and that's what he was doing. Not running from it because that's not what a Gryffindor would do!!

Abigail was still getting used to the size of Hogwarts and where everything was. She often found herself wandering around aimlessly, just to explore or lost on her way to places. Just the previous day on her way to dinner she managed to take a nice detour to the owlery. How she managed to go all the way up instead of just one floor she didn't know. After all the Hufflepuff dorms were the closest ones to the Great Hall.

It was while she wandering around in the search for a bathroom that she had passed the Library and looked in. The large room was amazing, much larger than Beauxbatons could ever offer. After a quick trip to the bathroom, which she actually found rather quickly (five points for Abby's self esteem) she decided to make her way back to the Library. It was very large and beautiful after all.

Walking in was like taking the opportunity to explore a whole new world of magical literature. Books were everywhere and she was sure they were about every subject possible. After a quick search she managed to find a book about her favorite subject, Arithmancy. Pulling it down from the high up shelf she went to look for somewhere to sit. That was where she found the study area, perfect. A boy was already sitting alone, and by the looks of it working on schoolwork. Classes hadn't even started yet had they? "Do you mind if I sit here?" Abby asked indicating the chair that was across from the boy.

The Gryffindor just stared at his tall pile of books. Stared. No blinking. No moving. Just lots and lots of staring. So how in the name of Sweet Merlin was he supposed to learn five years worth of knowledge in just one year alone. So of course, instead of actually studying like he was meant to do... The obvious solution was just to stare at the endless pile of books. Maybe he could absorb the information through the diffusion or something? ..... Was there a spell for that?.... And was it legal?

Just as the thoughts started bubbling up in his head, he heard a voice. A female voice. Oh Merlin. He was also trying to avoid those too. Well, most of them anyways. Not Sophie Brown because she was an exception, but anyone else... A girl was the reason behind this odd stake out of sorts. But... He didn't recognize this voice... So still unaware of who it was, as his view was blocked by his tower of books, he simply called back, "Yeah-um-I don't mind at all," though, maybe he should figure out who this voice belonged to exactly? Because what if it was one of the girls he knew... IN DISGUISE?

So yes. He had to solve this mystery once and for all. And with that, the Gryffindor carefully reached his hands up and started taking books off the top of the pile and setting them down all over the table. One by one. As he didn't really want a book avalanche this early on in the term. Maybe later, but not now. He was being careful for once. It took a couple of minutes, as he was being very careful with his little game of book Jenga, before he got the pile low enough to where he could mostly see over top of it.

The Prefect adjusted his position so that he could just barely see overtop of the top book, hopefully without her notice. OH. He didn't know this one. Well then, might as well take a break from studying you know, that thing he hadn't even started yet?. "Um... Hi, I'm-uh, I'm Zander," though he had to poke his head from the side of his book pile to properly see her. Heheheee oops?

WhittyBitty 01-06-2015 08:34 PM

Seeing as it was O.W.L. year (ewww), Lux figured that now would be as good a time as any to start cracking open those books in order to actually do well on her tests. Seeing as she was a hard-worker who couldn't stand failure, chances were she would take all 12 exams. The most important ones were what was required to become a Potioneer, but all of the subjects had importance to them.

Making her way over to the study tables with a huge pile of books in hand, Lux whistled when she saw someone else who was taking test studying to the extreme. "Zander, mind if I join you?" She could be SUPER quiet if needed, and surely there wasn't anything wrong with studying beside someone in a different House so long as she kept to her books. Besides, she was an Honorary Lion.

Spotting Abigail, she smiled at the other girl. "Hello. You liking Hogwarts so far?" As far as she knew Abigail was new to the school because she hadn't seen her around previously. Hopefully she wasn't wrong in this assumption, because that would be embarrassing.

Timmy // Star-Lord

So Brian was trying to get some idea of what the Wizarding World was like, because obviously he knew nothing about it and there were new surprises every day. Not all of them were pleasant. What better way to learn about this weird world than to read A History of Magic, right?

Apparently not.

All the book talked about was the wizarding wars and goblin revolutions and the House Elf Movement and all this talk was putting one Brian Woods to sleep. So if anyone was going to find him here, he may or may not be asleep on the book... and there may or may not be a little bit of drool.

Eep!

Classes had already started and Timmy didn't want to fall behind already. That would be really bad and definitely not in her nature to slip up on classes and such. She got that from her mother. Along with her pretty blonde hair and her awesome blue eyes. But not her height thankfully. Her Mum was pretty short and Timmy was almost just as tall as her! Ha! Skipping into the library with her charms textbook and some parchment, the lioness walked towards the study area and scanned out for a nice quiet place to do homework. But someone was asleep in the spot she wanted. Walking towards them, Timmy noticed it was Brian.

Hmm

"Oi, Brian?" She softly poked the boy in the cheek. Quietly setting her book down, she poked him more. "Wakey wakey, Brian!"

Brian wasn't quite comfortable but it was good to nap, with such lovely dreams. Good dreams made it totally worth it. He was just about to reach for the cookie when he felt something poking his cheek. He swatted at the air for a bit, moving away from the offending pokey thing. "Five more minutes, please ma." Let him eat the cookie first, yeah?

Wait, that wasn't his ma's voice. Blinking blearily, it took him a few seconds to register his surroundings. It appeared that he had fallen asleep in the library. Whoops. Wiping his face hastily, he looked at the person who had unfortunately for him, forced him out of his slumber.

"Oh, hi Timmy," he said, as soon as he gathered enough of his facilities to respond. Gesturing in a loose semicircle from the seat next to him to the seat opposite him, he smiled a little sheepishly. "Care to join me?"

He didn't mean to sleep, obviously.

Depressed. He was officially depressed.

He was FINE in his first year, and now all of a sudden he had to do all this STUDY stuff to jut keep up. It sucked, and it was taking time away from... well... eating and doing FUN things, whatever they happened to be.

Zeke sat at one of the tables with his supplies and a couple of tomes regarding Astronomy - which was his priority for the time being, owing to the fact that it was his favourite subject last year, and suddenly his worst subject this year. Had his brain turned to mush?

Head bent over, he read the passage on the page in front of him, and began reforming the concept in his own words on parchment. ... .....

Ben was on the search for something.

He didn't know what though. With the term only really just getting into the swing of things, there wasn't much to do in the way of studying anything specific. So he figured he might as well heard to the library to see if he could think on any ideas that might come to mind. Or maybe just find a book of two on its extensive shelves to read randomly, even just for fun.

A stroll through the stacks had fielded him an interesting book on transfiguration, a subject that he didn't always learn that much on in classes. Heading to find a comfy spot to go read, he spotted Zeke at a table reading on his own nearby. "Hey..." he greeted simply, not wanting to disturb if he was too into what he was reading. Benny took a seat at the other end of the table seeing as other places close-by were occupied.

Balancing six large volumes in his arms, Arden tried to make his way through the students to find an empty seat. His gaze lingered on a pretty girl who sat at a table he walked past, when his right foot caught on the leg of a chair. The books tumbled out of his arms, and landed around him on the floor. Now that was a good start to the term.

So. Frustrating.

How was it that definitions were one of the hardest things of all with this subject? Hhhhmmm?! This was hopeless. Zeke looked up at the sound of a greeting, and he gave Ben a short nod back, "Hey," he replied, before applying himself to his text again.

He didn't see it, he didn't get it. Flipping through pages quickly - perhaps more quickly than necessary, Zeke scanned the ever shrinking words to see if he could spot the beginnings of the terms he was looking for. OPEN. CLOSED.... nothing.

After cracking his neck, and frowning to himself, he noticed Ben had seated himself at the next table. How much did he know about Astronomy? Cause his head wasn't getting him anywhere.

Abandoning his things, Zeke grabbed a spare chair and pulled it up at the end of Ben's table. "Ben?" he asked to get the Gryffindor's attention, "do you know what the difference is between a closed star cluster and an open one?" Because he was LOST. Oh... and what were those? His hazel eyes locked on the tomes on transfiguration. "What're you transfiguring?" Just a casual nosy question. Ahem.

Benny would have to admit, he got into his reading. See why couldn't they do any of these spells in a transfiguration lessons offered throughout the year? "Hmm..." he absently mused, looking up from his reading as Zeke called his name. Oh, an astronomy question. The fifth year year thinking back to what they might have learned about the topic in question. "I think closed has more stars and is made up of older ones." At least that was what he seemed to remember from it. The overall shape and characteristics were coming up vague.

And there was the turn back to him and what he had been looking at. "Nothing yet...just trying to explore what's out there." Besides what was being taught seeing as they had tended to be more fashion-related. Not say...a spell that could possible be worked into a duel or something else like that. Something useful. He wasn't going to be a fashion model anytime soon.

Hhhmm??? ... Well that didn't sound incredibly promising. Ugh. Astronomy. He'd go and ask Professor Airey, but he didn't want to see the look of utter disappointment and disgust on the man's face for not knowing what was probably a simple something. Life was hard. He nodded though, as Ben came to some sort of conclusion as to what the answer was, though he didn't sound overly convinced. Partially convinced was fine with him though, it beat having NO definition/idea at all. "Ahhhh, cool, thanks man," he said, attempting to commit that to memory - something that would likely let him down.

The transfiguration spell book thing though, now THAT was interesting... more interesting than failing Astronomy. "Mind if I explore with you?" he asked, closing his own book without hesitation. He was totally ready for ANYTHING else to pass the time.

Whomever wants to join her :p

After having spoken to the librarian Leo and him helping her find the book she needed Hady made her way through the aisles of books over to the sitting area. Not wanting to get in the way of anyone that might be studying for a class or doing homework she headed for a large arm chair. Placing her bag down beside the chair she settled herself down curling her legs up underneath her, the book opened on the arm rest.

Reaching over she pulled out a piece of parchment and her quill which she set on the arm rest beneath the book ready to take down some detailed notes. Slowly she flipped through each page of the advanced charms book searching for the charm she wanted.

Zander still had his head behind his super tall stack of books, needless to say... This would take a whole lot of time to get through them all. Years maybe. But he didn't have years! He had just this one. One year to learn FIVE whole years worth of information. It was all completely lost on him. And Merlin, he just wanted OWLs to be over already. Though, the time to study would still be needed so you know what nevermind. Maybe they could just abolish OWLs this year, yeah? Cancel exams... Throw a huge party instead? Maybe he could bring that up at a Prefect's meeting. Maybe they could have an input in it or something.

Shrugging, the Gryffindor stood up on his chair and grabbed a single book from the top of his pile, before setting it down behind his large stack and in front of his chair. Then, carefully getting down from his little chair ladder, he peered down at his book for proper inspection. Oh, how ironic.. Runes. Sigh. It was one of his worst subjects, so maybe it was fitting to start with this one, yeah? And with that, he began reading. Or trying to read.. Really, he was starting to doze off. And just as he started to let his eyes flutter shuuuuut---ASLKDF;ASDFLKJ WHO WHAT HUH WHEN WHERE!?

Almost falling out of his seat-- BUT NOT falling out ok-- the Gryffindor shook awake at the sound of a familiar voice. Heh. Oops? Totally not sleeping over here. He was studying. Yeah. Studying. Though the pile of books hopefully obstructed any passerbyers view. Ahem. But oh, it was Lux. He recognized that voice. So, he poked his head out from the side of his book pile and rubbed his eyes a little too before nodding, "Yeah, of course Lux... It can be like a uh... Um... Study party?"

Hayden was walking through the library, looking for a good place to study. She wasn't expecting to socialize or even necessarily see anyone she knew. But she couldn't help looking around as she walked, to observe who was there and what they were doing and such. She did spot a familiar face, and a small smile crept onto her face.

There was a first year boy asleep in one of the chair she passed. She recognized him right away. Hayden had spoken to him once before, and she had made sure to remember his face. She couldn't get him confused with someone else because that would be bad. She had been looking around for Brian lately, though she hadn't expected to see him at the moment. Luckily, she was prepared.

Hayden quickly riffled through her bag and pulled out an envelope. She'd written 'Brian' on the front, and inside was a card. She also pulled out a chocolate frog and two lollipops. One was red, and the other blue. Cherry a blue raspberry, hopefully he'd be able to figure it out. Hayden hoped he liked it. She smiled once more before hurrying off before he woke up. He'd never know she was there or who had left the gift.

If only he could give a better, more concrete answer to the younger Gryffindor. But alas, he couldn't, and he wasn't about to try too hard and either confuse the boy or throw him completely off track in the process. His response seemed to be acceptable, however, so it was a mute point.

It seemed there was another boy, curious about what else was out there in the field of transfiguration. That was somewhat evident even before the question to join him in his reading up on the matter. Did he mind company? No...he supposed not. And it wasn't like it was a complete stranger but a housemate, and one he had spoken with and worked before.

"Nope," he answered as the other book was closed. The fifth year moving the transfiguration tome so they both could look at and read it. "Let's see if we can find something interesting."

Though he'd technically invited himself into this whole transfiguration exploration, it was NICE that it was supported by Ben, and that he wasn't shooed away. WIN. "Thanks," he mused, shuffling closer on his seat, peering at the words on the page. They weren't fashionable spells were they? He'd had enough of turning beetles into buttons to last him a lifetime.

"I didn't do bad with Transfiguration last year, but it wasn't that great either." The subject was... drier than he'd anticipated. Definitely not fashion minded.

Granted he usually studied on his own or with Adi or Angel, but Zeke was good people. Even beside the fact he was a fellow lion. Surely looking over the text together wouldn't be bad in any way. "You're welcome."

"The same for me," he admitted as he turned a page, remembering how he had been vaguely surprised by what he had gathered by the end of the term. "Not like it was that interesting a subject matter." Clothes and fashion shows and other stuff that usually didn't interest the average boy either of their ages.

Letting his eyes wander along the two facing pages, his gaze alighted on one spell in particular. "Piscifors..." he mused allowed as he read down further.

Watching him almost fall out of his seat, Lux felt bad. Had Zander been sleeping?

"I'm sorry," she said apologetically. At least he hadn't hurt himself because that would have made her feel really bad. A study party sounded pretty awesome though. Not nearly as fun as a regular party....but studying with friends was always better than studying alone. Her and Zander could be awesome study buddies. And maybe do something afterwards like eat.

"Awesome! What you studying now?" she asked curiously as she took a seat beside him. Time to get to work, so she laid all of her books out.

The Gryffindor shook his head at the apology and waved a dismissive hand in the air. Really nothing to apologize for. Actually, it was probably a good thing that Lux had woken him up. After all, he wasn't really here to sleep... He was here to study. Ahem. Yeah, study. Merlin, Fifth Year was already messing with his head. "Oh, uh, no don't worry about it, Lux... I-I could use a study buddy anyways." Pft. Totally wasn't falling asleep. Nope.

"Well I was actually studying--" the inside of his eyelids, "some Runes, but uh.. The textbook's just so dense it's gonna put me to sleep." More like it already did. "So uh, I was thinking Herbology next since I actually like learning about that stuff." It was his favorite. Or well, favorite number two really. And for more than just the plants. Throwback to when the Professor was beautiful and-- Ahem. Nope.

#THIIIISSSSSS ...

He needed more guy friends. He REALLY needed more guy friends. Or more to the point, he needed to start hanging out with them over girls. Not that girls were bad, but they only seemed to have GOOD things to say about Transfiguration, and if he were allowed to, he'd probably drop the subject. Alas, that wasn't going to happen. But Transfiguration slandering was happening!

"Tell me about it," Zeke started, sighing as if the subject was the greatest disappointment in his life. "If I wanted lessons on how to be a girl I'd have gone to Beauxbaton, don't see why we can't transfigure lizards into cauldrons and birds into goblets. That would be way more interesting." Not to mention USEFUL.

He was being distracting. Maybe he ought to shush and read more...

As his gaze returned to the pages in front of them, Ben's words... or rather, WORD, caught his attention. "Piscifors?" he repeated, scanning down the page until he found it. Huh... turn things into little FISH. Cool beans. Zeke nodded, impressed. "Better than anything we've done so far."

He wasn't mad at her. That was a relief and Zander was so nice. Lux was happy to be his friend again because she had missed him last term even though he had been a butt to her. She hoped they could be friends forever.

But for now it was study time! "I'm here to be your awesome study buddy and save you from boredom." Hehe, it seemed that whatever he was studying was boring. Yep, Ancient Runes could be very dull to read about though she liked the class alright. Professor Botros helped because he was so nice and reminded her of her grandpa. Lux wondered if he'd mind her calling him Grandpa Botros.

"Oh, Herbology is nice. I'm thinking I might ask Professor Millard if I can practice on some of the plants in the greenhouses."But that was for another day.

Zeke seemed to be a kindred spirit in this topic. Someone who didn't want to focus their overall transfiguration skills to those better suited for the afformentioned French school for witches. Or their fellow wizards more in touch with their feminine fashionista side. He himself had only made it past with the assistance of his girlfriend who had her own interest in the subject. Angel certainly had seemed a natural at it.

"It definitely would be," the fifth year agreed wholeheartedly. As long as the creatues weren't really hurt in the process. No harming innocent creatures for the purpose of testing out spells...no sir.

Focusing on the page, he hadn't realized he had spoke the name aloud. But Zeke followed his interest in the spell in question. "Want to go someplace and try it out?" he asked, suggesting a plan that excited him. They might need a few things, like something to transfigure and something to keep the fish safe in, so staying here in the library probably wasn't the best place to hole up.
