Default History of Magic and Divination 2

With the first floor still the Weasley Swamp, Professor Glendower and Professor Cassie have decided to join forces and have a combined lesson. As you make your way towards the trapdoor you will find a very familiar sign that is usually found on the History of Magic door.

Quote:
Make an Entrance

Respectfully

Once you walk into the room you will see that Professor Cassie has set the room up a bit differently. There is no quiet music as you enter, but the smell of lavender is filling the room. Longer tables and chairs all in white and the usual after class snack will be happening before class on, bottles of sparkling water and strawberries this time around are waiting at each table. A small stage like area with a podium and two chairs sits in the front of the room. On the edge of the stage you will see the usual snapcup just waiting for you to place your proud moments in it.

You will also notice in the corner of the room an area with costumes and Divination supplies such as tea cups and tarot cards. You will also notice a few cats roaming the room, including two very familiar ones owned by Professor Cassie.

Professor Cassie is sitting in one of the two chairs up front sipping her tea waiting for her fabulous students.

Cats were sacred to the Egyptian people. They were a religious symbol known as Mau, so there is no wonder that a form of Divination using them came to be. That form as we have learned in our previous lessons is called Ailuromancy. "

Giving Aries a kiss on the head, she set him down on the stage and turned back to the room, "Now during this time Amenemhat, like Professor Glendower mentioned was an advisor, but some feared him, because he always seemed to knowledgeable. Though that made others start to follow him, listen to him. As unclear as it is because of records, I think we all might find his methods a little familiar. It is said that he would be caught watching cats in and around the area. Writing and documenting their movements. Many had no clue what he was doing, but we know he was studying readings to find the best time for his attack. As we know a cat is a very good indicator for weather. " Giving a look to Nessa to make sure she was ready for the next question, she turned back to the room. "Before we move to the next guessing game, could anyone tell me what movement in a cat shows that a storm is coming?"
What knowledgeable and intuitive students they both had! Of course, Nessa already knew this from them being in her class, but it was always nice to have that reaffirmed. She knew the answer was Ailuromancy, the one with the cats, but she remained silent to let the students work out the answer for themselves. It was nice to hear the correct answer right from the start, but some of the other answers were very creative and she smiled encouragingly at all those who answered. The way they reasoned them, she could see why they had come to those conclusions and thought that was very insightful. It was sort of a shame that more students didn't try to participate in their game, but perhaps the answer that they wanted to say had already been said. Hopefully they'd be more willing for the next story.

She allowed Cassie to expand a little more on the Divination role in their example, then nodded to her for her to continue. She was ready for the next story, but first they needed to make sure the students understood some of the details of the process of Ailuromancy, so they'd take care of that then move on.

Waving her hand in the air, she answered, "When they put their heads on the floor--if they're sleeping like that. But I don't think its very easy to put your head on the floor when you're standing up, except cats are pretty cool so maybe they do that sometimes." She eyed the floor for a moment, wondering if SHE could but her head on the floor when standing up, before looking back at Professor Cassie again. Right? Riiiight? The thirteen year old picked up another strawberry and popped it in her mouth. Awesomesauce.

She raised her hand at professor Morgan's question,...but a LOT of people knew this answer. "Yeah--what everyone else said--because we're all SO smart today!" she said cheerfully, smiling.

EVERYONE WAS SMART TODAY. Except maybe Kevin. He might be getting answers right, but Eden side-eyed the Gryffindor. Troublesome kid. Eating another strawberry, she turned back to look at Professsssors Glendow and Morgan.

And…cat’s forehead on the floor? LOL! That’s funny! Ethan looked if Professor Cassie’s cat was doing it.

Nope. No storm coming.

Ethan drew a cat with its forehead on the floor on his parchment, and took note of its meaning.

No need to explain things further when a million other people had already stated it, but she definitely was sure that was the right answer.
"Very good!" Nessa beamed at the students who answered. Though she was not the Divination expert her best friend was, Nessa knew a little bit about Ailuromancy and this story, plus they had discussed it while planning their class. "As Professor Cassie said, Amenemhat watched many of the cats that were so prevalent in the area and he came to know that when a cat would lie down with his forehead pressed to the ground, that a storm would be coming soon. It was with this knowledge that helped him plan his attack." Wonderful job students! "Aren't we just?" she exclaimed happily to Eden. They really were all so smart, she was so proud of the ones that made the effort. And she did happen to notice Ethan's sketch in his notes as well, giving him a very encouraging nod. That was a great way to retain class information.

"Are you ready for the next story?" Nessa looked around the room a minute, making sure everyone was attentive. The next one would work the same way. "Now this story is a little more local and centers around one of our very own Ministers for Magic, Basil Flack. Our friend Basil was appointed Minister for Magic in 1752, but before he held that position he was known to associate with a band of local gypsies. It is unsure how he came to know them, whether he was related to them or simply friends with them, but he became rather close to one, making her his personal adviser once he became Minister. As you may or may not know, gypsies often practice different forms of Divination and Minister Flack often used her counsel in making decisions, though he kept this information secret while he held office." Nessa paused a moment to let them all take in this information before she continued.

"There is a written account of him using her readings and advice on who to hire during his leadership, on at least one occasion. His gypsy adviser would set things up for the interview, leave while it was going on, then come back to do the reading, using a specific form of Divination. However, one day the gypsy just disappeared. Minister Flack still strongly believed in Divination and tried doing it himself." She quickly glanced at Cassie to make sure she got this next part right. "Unfortunately, during one of his own readings, he misread a sun as a skull and failed to predict the advancement of the goblin rebellion who had then aligned themselves with werewolves. So distraught over his failure, he then resigned."

"Based on what I've told you in the story, what form of Divination did the Minister's adviser use, or which form do you think would have been best?"

Benny had to admit the historical accounts made the topics of divination even more interesting. Proof behind the methods you might say. He hadn't voiced an answer for the matter of the cat position, having been caught between the memory of one point or another as a possible answer to the professor's question. So He simply listened to what the consensus of the other students including Adi were and then as it was confirmed by Professor Glendower.
They moved onto another tale, this one of a Minister of Magic rather than an Egyptian power. Benny listened to what was said of the downturn in his ministry and at her new question, tried to think back to her story to figure out what type of divination it was indeed.

Scrying with crystal balls...No.

Card reading...Possibly.

Finally he got an idea that seemed to fit the best and he raised his hand to respond. "Did the minister's advisor read tea leaves? The remnants looking to him as a sun when a practiced reader would have seen the skull." Certainly appeared about right...to him.

Ethan gave Professor G a sheepish grin when she gave him an approving nod. Drawings were good, and it keeps him awake and alert during lectures. His quill’s nib found itself scratching against his parchment once more as he took down more notes about this Basil Flack guy. Well, the dude is definitely a careless one. He could have just hired another gypsy to do the reading and stuff for him.

Wait, reading? That’s a clue, isn’t it? Ethan scratched his head and held up his hand to answer. “Did the Gypsy use Tarot Cards, professors?” Well, the cards up front was a giveaway, so maybe that’s the answer they were looking for, yeah?

Norah doodled a kitten in her notes as she listened to professor Glendower's next story, turning her head sideways and squinting so it actually looked like a cat instead of the weird lumpy thing it resembled when she looked at it normally. Heh.

The third year bit her lip as she thought about the story, 'cause other than scrying and the kitty one she'd kinda forgotten about the names of types of divination. But the story said the dude had mistaken the shape, so what involved shapes and divination? Um um. Uuuum. She half raised her hand in the air, took it down again, and eventually put it up a final time because these were nice professors so they probably wouldn't laugh if she was wrong. Probably. "Was it tea leaves? Those have shapes, I think."

Score one for Adi! Oh waaaait. Did that count It wasn't the actual game he had been playing with that question. Hehe. Oh well. Adi still had managed to get a correct answer in. And Glendower had taken over again!

Soooo, the Minister had misread... the Puffer went through mentally whatever Divination methods he could think about just then, eliminating the unlikely methods before raising his hand. "Crystal ball gazing, perhaps?" The thing that he was SO LAME at except for that one time he saw a shadowy something moving around in the ball a few weeks ago.

Woo, everyone had managed to get the last one right. They were all smart cookies and Lux was proud.

As the next story was told, she felt it was a little harder. Than the previous one. She tried to think of the significance to the sun and how it had been misread...that meant that this form of divination relied on images. The first thing that brought to mind was tarot cards, but as far as she knew that didn't involve suns or skulls.

The only other option she knew of was tea leaves.

Raising her hand, she ventured a guess. "Was it tea leaves? The dregs at the bottom of a cup leave images and it could be possible to misread one symbol for another. I also believe that the sun is one of the symbols used in tea readings." Her memory of it was a little foggy though, as she hadn't practiced that form of divination very much.

Angel had been totally interested in all the things going on that she hadn't been able to do much lately, she couldn't believe what was happening, one minute it was the start of the less and the next thing she knew it was a few question later.

Angel know had to think about this question. "Maybe they would use crystal balls to sort out what was going on with the world?" Angel had obviously raised her hand before speaking.

Penelope loved these kinds of games. She had guessed the first one correctly. This was fun! Penelope listened to the next story. Someone had misread a sun as a skull. "Was it tasseomancy?" Tasseomancy was tea leaf reading, right? That had lots of different symbols. It could be easy to misread tea leaf symbols. Were they going to learn about tasseomancy in a future lesson?

Oh. Eden was so engrossed in this current story that she forgot to take notes. Wowza. Was that LEGAL? Like, could he DO that? She wasn't sure, but she thought she'd ask Iwin because he knew aaaalllllll about that stuff. She blinked at her empty page of notes....

WHOOPS.

She quickly began to scribble everything they had discussed so far while she thought about which type of Divination BasilMinisterFace had been using. It was almost obvious, though...or maybe too obvious. She raised her hand, still scribbling away.."Yes--tea leaves seems the MOST probable, since you mentioned misreading a picture..and I think tea leaves might be easy to misread things in..." the blobs sometimes....were difficult. Eden liked tea leafing though. She thought that was so INTERESTING.

Hugo accepted Dante's compliment. Both of them were cool and awesome. Yup.

Alright, back to class. The professors started telling a story and from the beginning Hugo lost track of it. Why egyptians had weird and confussing names? And he had no clue about how cats react to storms, he didn't own one and neither wanted to. He was bad at this. Really.

At the third question he tried to answer just because. The boy raised his hand, "Did he read tea leaves? And maybe he should have use the glass spheres to see the future." that was all he knew about Divination. Literally.

"Tea leaves would be clever to use for interviews," Dot wasn't really sure how she felt about Divination in general, but she was such a fan of Glendower that it didn't matter. She was here. She leaned against her desk with her fingers still in the air. Wiggling away at the professors.

"I mean, you serve tea to the candidate person, have them leave their cup behind afterwards, and then your pocket gypsy can come back and read the person's cup. I think those might be illegal hiring practices." Just saying, based on her limited law experience.

Uhhh... okay, this one was slightly harder. 'Misread a sun as a skull' was maybe a good clue, because it hinted at a form of Divination where you looked for shapes in something, then interpreted the shapes. Though... how much did that really narrow it down? Toby... wasn't sure.

He sat there thinking for a while, and soon enough had zeroed in on reading tea leaves, and was trying super hard to remember what a sun or a skull meant, because that might help make this example make sense. But... he couldn't remember, so... well, may as well try it anyway, and hope for the best.

"Maybe Tasseomancy?" Toby said, hand up. "Because I think that's a form of Divination they used, and it involves looking for and interpreting shapes in things, after all. Like... plenty of opportunity to misread a sun as a skull." He lowered his hand again, when a sudden idea struck him. "Ooh, maybe, like... in the interviews, the Flack guy would have tea with whoever he interviewed, and then like you said, she would come back and do the reading by looking at the tea leaves left at the bottom of the other person's cup. Once they'd gone, of course." That sort of made sense, at least in Toby's mind.

Bambi was quite proud of herself. Third question in and she wasn't completely and absolutely lost. These were her worst subjects, after all. Summarising all that the Professor had told them about the, er, British Minister for Magic - that was an important fact to mention, she felt, since there were more than just one you know in the entire world you know - she raised her eyebrows as she thought about the answer. She then swiftly came to the same conclusion as most of her classmates.

"Yeah, I'm going with tea leaf readings as well," she piped up, her left hand up and her right still scribbling some loose ends she'd not yet written from the story. Multitasking and all that.

Which form could it have been best...the first thing that popped into Dylan's head was tea leaves, and by everyone answering all around him, they all seemed to have the same idea.

Raising his own hand to answer, he cleared his throat before speaking. "I'd say tea leaves as well, Professor," He answered with a nod. "Since they can be misread quite easily and all." The fifth year added.

With a Name like Basil Flack. You would think he would catch a lot of flack for a name like that. That was the best he could do and it was an improvement that he could even make puns in this class. Still with that name Dante was not surprised he was with the Gypsies. He probably could throw a cool party or something. You know before he become Minster and became too adult.

So the guy misread a sun as a skull. Well Dante would probably have done the same. So he did not blame the guy. Dante was going to stay quiet and wonder why you would name a kid Basil.

Especially with the lat name of Flack.

OUCH, KEVIN??? What was with the whacking today!?

He rubbed his head some, but couldn't even say anything because actual class stuff was starting now. He was a good bloody idiot? What even Kenji Hirase? What did that even meaaaaaan? "Uh, you too I guess?" What. Even. He gave his best mate a strange look at the excitement over the cat divination thing. Why would-- Oh. Huh. Zander's expression slowly changed into one of being impressed because Kevin actually got it right. Nice.

But again, hearing the next few questions, Zander chose to stay quiet. He'd do some note taking for now and focus on that.

'Course it was cats. Egyptians worshipped them, didn't they? That could explain why they have such big heads now and why they cared so little, which was even more of a reason as to why he should get one. They'd make the perfect pair. Uh huh.

Convincing his mum to get a cat would be like convincing her to let him fail. Simply not gonna happen.

And with that thought in place, Grayson tuned back into the lesson itself. A story about some dude named Basil Flack? Lulz. This story was kinda an interesting one so the Slytherin was gonna go ahead and make some notes on it. Just because. It kinda made him wonder whether it was more accurate than having a really good judge of character, something he liked to think he was. A good judge of character.

He agreed with the tea leaves answer, by the way. Was the only thing that made sense and all, even if he didn't see how anyone can see the right shapes from those dregs. Wasn't it down to imagination?

Tea leaves seemed to be the general consensus on this one, and Caleb agreed. Tea would be the perfect way to do some sneaky divination right under your enemy's nose, because it was just TEA. And very easy to misread too.

He raised his hand once more. "I think it was tea leaves, because speaking from experience, it's a bit hard to read those, especially if you aren't experienced in divination," he explained.

A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.

…….He had been right? Whuuuut?

Kevin looked surprised for a second but when he saw the look on Zander’s face he grinned proudly. HAH, see, he could pay attention if he wanted to! Although he hadn’t connected the dots and brought the two together like she had said. It had been pure luck from what he thought was a useless answer.

But anyways, he watched as the Divination Professor grabbed one of the cats and he had a strong urge to pick one up as well…could he steal one? He already had a rat but he didn’t think the animal would have long to life anymore….

For the next question, Kevin did not know the answer so he went back to looking at the cats.

Good. Her answer about the cats had been correct. At least she was slightly on her game today. Quill still in hand Hady continued with her note taking though her eyes drifted downward when a random cat came over and brushed up against her leg.

A small smile graced her lips for a brief moment as she reached down with a free hand to lightly stroke the cats head earning herself a purr from it before it moved on. Shaking her head with a small laugh she went back to taking notes opting out of answering the next question as everyone was saying the very same thing. No point in her repeating them all now, was there? This second year didn't really think so.

He listened to the story and snickered at the name Basil Flack. Seriously what kind of name was that? I mean it was clever and unique right. Alright Lecium back on track! He heard the gypsies and such and the Professor wondered what type of divination she used. Kace raised his hand and agreed with Adi on this one.

"Professor I think the gypsie used Crystal Ball gazing as a form of divination." It seemed logical and gypsies were drawn to Crystal balls.

The students were just so smart she had been snapping at all their wonderful memories. They remember the cat positions so well. Having them with their foreheads to the floor, just perfect. As Ness began her next story Cassie got super excited and picked up her own tea cup finishing her favorite peppermint brand. Maybe she'd pour herself more in a moment. Right now it was her time to talk.

SPOILER!!: answers
SPOILER!!: Benny

Snaps were happening, wow what a great story Nessa had given and Cassie thought it was vague enough it might stump the students, but not all the students Benny did a great job. "Yes he did, wonderful answer." Students were so bright. It was just fantastic!

SPOILER!!: Ethan

He could have just hired another gypsy to do the reading and stuff for him.

Wait, reading? That’s a clue, isn’t it? Ethan scratched his head and held up his hand to answer. “Did the Gypsy use Tarot Cards, professors?” Well, the cards up front was a giveaway, so maybe that’s the answer they were looking for, yeah?

She grinned looking at Ethan, very good thoughts, yes! Snaps for Ethan! "Gypsies were very known for their crystal balls and tarot card readings. So I can fully see where you got that thought from and most of the time you'd be very right, today though with this particular event it is not tarot cards." She loved that he put gypsies and tarot readings together though, that was fantastic.

SPOILER!!: Norah

The third year bit her lip as she thought about the story, 'cause other than scrying and the kitty one she'd kinda forgotten about the names of types of divination. But the story said the dude had mistaken the shape, so what involved shapes and divination? Um um. Uuuum. She half raised her hand in the air, took it down again, and eventually put it up a final time because these were nice professors so they probably wouldn't laugh if she was wrong. Probably. "Was it tea leaves? Those have shapes, I think."

Another great answer, Cassie was snapping her fingers, "Very good Norah, tea leaves was the form that was used. Every reading people use the shapes of the leaves to determine future things and how a persons personality is." They would get into that more in a bit.

SPOILER!!: Adi

Soooo, the Minister had misread... the Puffer went through mentally whatever Divination methods he could think about just then, eliminating the unlikely methods before raising his hand. "Crystal ball gazing, perhaps?" The thing that he was SO LAME at except for that one time he saw a shadowy something moving around in the ball a few weeks ago.

She loved these guesses, they were just wonderful! "You are so close, Gypsies were known for their crystal balls, that is one of their more known forms to use. Though you can misread images in the crystal ball, it is a bit harder to mix up a sun and a skull when it's an actual image in the ball compared to another way." Snapping happily to encourage him she moved to the next person.

SPOILER!!: Lux

Another great answer, Cassie was giving snaps yet again, "Wonderful job Lux, it is tea leaves." She was very impressed that out of all the forms so many got the skull and sun reference and brought it to tea leaves. Very good everyone.

Angel know had to think about this question. "Maybe they would use crystal balls to sort out what was going on with the world?" Angel had obviously raised her hand before speaking.

More snaps for great guessing, "Wonderful try, Crystal Balls were used by Gypsies, but not this specific Gypsy, though she probably used it at times, she used the tea leaves for the minster." Easier to hide and all.

Looking toward Penelope, she smiled and snapped, "Yes, you are right. Tea Leave readings are called Tasseomancy and it is the form that was used by the gypsy." Wonderful answer and she could tell many were reading outside of class.

"Very good Eden" She was getting snaps as well, "Tea leaves were the form that was used and it is super easy to misread, so you have to be very careful and really certain." Wonderful job!

SPOILER!!: Hugo

Alright, back to class. The professors started telling a story and from the beginning Hugo lost track of it. Why egyptians had weird and confussing names? And he had no clue about how cats react to storms, he didn't own one and neither wanted to. He was bad at this. Really.

At the third question he tried to answer just because. The boy raised his hand, "Did he read tea leaves? And maybe he should have use the glass spheres to see the future." that was all he knew about Divination. Literally.

She gave the boy snaps and beamed, "Yes, he did use tea leaves." Giggling a bit she snapped some more, because the boy had something there. [b] "Crystal Balls would have given a more clear image, but he might not have ever been able to do it alone. As many of you remember from last term, that form of Divination is tough and takes many times of practicing before getting it correct.

SPOILER!!: Dot
Quote:
Originally Posted by Cassirin View Post

"I mean, you serve tea to the candidate person, have them leave their cup behind afterwards, and then your pocket gypsy can come back and read the person's cup. I think those might be illegal hiring practices." Just saying, based on her limited law experience.

Turning to the next student she nodded and snapped, "Very good answer. Tea Leaves are correct and yes, it was very simple to set out the tea before candidates came into the room and then after they left the Gypsy would come and do a reading." This one had very good observation, "It does seem to some as unethical and it was a controversy once it got out, but since he was just offering people tea like many of us do and then looking into the cup, it really couldn't be determined illegal. Though I'm not sure how many pushed the issue either." She saw nothing wrong with it, but it was an everyday thing for her to do readings.

SPOILER!!: Toby
Quote:

"Correct Toby, Tasseomancy is the form that was used. The reading of tea leaves can be easily misread to an untrained eye. So it was very unfortunate that his gypsy friend just left." She nodded more as he put the clues together and gave him snaps. "That's exactly how he did his hiring. He felt so confident in his gypsy friend that he got very dependent on the readings." It was a very interesting friendship even Cassie would admit.

"Yeah, I'm going with tea leaf readings as well," she piped up, her left hand up and her right still scribbling some loose ends she'd not yet written from the story. Multitasking and all that.

Nodding and giving more snaps Cassie looked to the next with their hand up. "Very good. Wonderful answer. It is tea leaves." They all seem to be picking up on the correct answer now. She was so proud of them.

Nodding to the next person, she beamed and gave snaps, "Very good, tea leaves are correct. Many of the symbols can be misread if not looking for the right things, though for most people that are trained like all of you are being in these lessons this should not happen." So no worries there.

Just a little side note for all that are interested.

Hearing Kace's answer she grinned at him and snapped, "Wonderful answer Kace and yes gypsies are known for their Crystal Ball gazing, but at this moment it wasn't what was used. Though I do like that you are thinking about all forms." Always good to hear many different answers.

SPOILER!!: Rorie

She looked at this one curiously again, had she ever even come to this class before? Cassie had been off lately in her bubbly, but she was trying super hard for her students and the positive vibes were just being sucked out by this ones sarcasm. Keeping her sweet tone and smile on her face she moved closer to the young lady, "Miss Hazelwood you do not translate cats that way. If you have a gift that we aren't aware of it would be wonderful for you to share, but I'm assuming since I know all the gifts that come from this subject that you don't, so I'd like you to please leave the cat alone for now and listen." Snapping a bit for encouragement she moved back to the front of the room. Her wand flicking to pull a more stronger aroma of lavender to that area to help bring back the rooms energy.

As they moved on and students were answering they were interrupted yet again by Miss Hazelwood. She kept her calm and her smile as she picked up her tea cup for the rest of the class. "I'm so sorry Miss Hazelwood, but the minute you came into the room I realized you did not have the gift of divination." A dramatic pout on her face. "I know it can be so rough when you don't have the true gift or the mind to at least train for ones that don't need an inner eye, but I'm afraid it seems you just don't. So if you want to take your joking and interruptions to another class that would be just lovely. You can have a cupcake on your way out."

Turning back to the rest of the group she beamed even more, "Now as Professor Glendower said the Minister was very involved in Divination and looked to the signs to determine many of his decisions. People that knew him well of course like all people with Divination, had different opinions on him doing this. " She was all too familiar with the way of the world when it come to her line of work. "Now with Gypsies, as always people either accept them or fear them. So the minister accepting them showed he was a true believer. Whether you think it was right or wrong, no one can disagree that it was an interesting way to find out about people he hired. Tessomancy or reading of tea leaves was so simple. Set a tea cup out, have the person drink it, and then do a reading once they had gone. Now some did not drink the tea, so he would look to other ways to determine, but we all know that the majority will drink the tea." Everyone should drink tea, it was just that good in her opinion.

"With Tessomancy you drink all the tea and then you look to the bottom of your cup." She showed her cup that she was holding. "As you look into mine you can see a clover with this little cluster of leaves and a goose with this little group. If you open your book to page 22 can anyone tell me what those symbols mean before Professor Glendower moves on to the next story and guessing game."

This was fun, she was really enjoying this combined lesson!

OH YEAH. Look who'd guessed RIGHT. Norah smiled at Professor Glendower before shooting an apologetic glance at the older girl (Rorie) who was being told off. SHE had almost done that too, just to try it out. It was fun to be a cat sometimes, okay? And anyways, cat noises were the bestest kinds of noises.

Once she'd written the stuff about tessomancy (which took her four tries to spell correctly) down in her notes, the third year pulled her textbook towards her and opened up to page 22. Oooh! This shape stuff was cool. Scanning the page, Norah put a hand in the air. "The clover means good stuff like happiness and luck. Then the leaves mean..." she trailed off and squinted at the page. Where was the thing on leaves? Were they even supposed to find leaves? She THOUGHT Professor Cassie had said something about leaves, but she couldn't really remember anymore. The cupcakes were distracting, okay? "Well I can't really find the leaves, but a leaf cluster is kind of like ivy and that means happiness because of friends. And then the goose means some more happiness and success." She TRIED okay.

Marigold copied most of what people were saying into her notes, as things were being asked and answered really quickly and she was not good at rapid-fire discussion. But when they were asked to open the textbook, she had a little time to actually read it and raise her hand for what they meant.

"A goose is happiness, like Norah said, but also a successful event or happening. And maybe the clump of leaves is a tree, which means good luck and also power."
