Making sure the toadstool was snugly set in its new pot, Beverly cast Aguamenti around it. It wasn't a difficult task at all. In fact, if this was all they had to do for the rest of the term, Beverly would ace Herbology. But she did have to pay attention as to how much water she was adding and not drown it.

Good thing she'd had a proper breakfast, one that didn't leave room for more, and felt quite energetic. A nap still sounded nice, but she wasn't lagging.

That seemed to be enough water for now, which meant the mooncalf solution was next. Her toadstool look pretty banged up; like it got in a fight and lost, so it took more than three drops to until there was any change in its color. Where there was, it made a little squeaking sound.

..........Hehe.

Mumbling it to it, she smirked. "Dragons rock." Did it get it? It was a simple phrase and--

"Drans'...ock."

Aslfkjdfklj! It sort of said it!

Caleb was pretty sure he had this spell down - it didn't seem THAT hard, really. Now time to actually do it on the toadstool - and it couldn't come a moment sooner. The toadstool had started SHOUTING "HI HI HI HI HI" and he was about to chuck it out the window if it didn't stop soon.

"Silencio!" he exclaimed, pointing his wand with a jab towards the toadstool. Even though he was confident in his ability to perform the spell, he was a bit shocked that it worked right away. The toadstool was totally silent! Thank MERLIN.

Next couple of steps seemed simple enough. Taking up a sickly toadstool, Grayson carefully placed it into the pot and on top of the soil. Any squirming from the toadstool was ignored, apart from some sighing and tutting and cold looks that we're given to the plant. Just dot squirm, mkay? He was trying to pass this class and the toadstool was gonna help him, even if he had to make it do so.

Next part came the water which, again, was simple enough. A simple "Aguamenti!" was all it took. Potions had made him a pro at this spell so seeing the jet of water shoot out of his wand wasn't surprising to the boy. That's right. Pour yourself aaaaaaaall over the soil and the plant itself.

When that was done, Grayson picked to the bottle of Mooncalf Solution and added a few drops of the stuff onto the plant. Just a few, nothing toooooo much because Merlin knows, if he screwed up, it wasn't gonna go down well with the Professor dude up there.

And......... SMIRK.

"'Sup dude!" he said to the now HEALTHY toadstool, yeah, that's right, his toadstool was HEALTHY. And it was all because of HIM. Lulz.

And then there was a repetition of the words 'sup dude'. MAN. Why didn't he try and say swear words to the toadstool? The plant would have mimicked him and would swear for him and technically, he couldn't get into too much trouble for it. Or so he hoped.

What a waste of an opportunity.

Also. The repetition was getting kinda annoying. Kindly stop, please, toadstool.

Alright talking toadstools time to meet your enemy. Plus their voices were annoying his ears and he wanted to quiet them all for just a bit. Just so he can think. Anyways he had his wand at the ready and he already practiced pronouncing the charm and doing the wand movement. He was prepared. The big puff was gonna try this. He took a deep breath and jabbed his wand and said, "Silencio!"

He did notice anything happening yet but then he heard the toadstool still making the whining noise. Gah it didn't work. He would have to try again. He shrugged and he noticed other people were attempting to do the charm. They were all in the same boat.

It took a moment for the mooncalf solution to kick in, and when it did her assigned toadstool croaked with a bit more confidence each time. It went from 'dran' 'ock' to 'dragons 'ock.'

It was better than witnessing a baby learn how to speak.

"Dragons rock," she repeated, enunciating the words properly.

That's when Professor Millard introduced the next steps. It was getting noisy in here and not being a fan of lots of noise, Beverly agreed on the silencing spell.

Taking her wand, but not using it to cast yet, she muttered the spell. "Silencio." She bet Gregoire was quite familiar with that spell. "Silencio," she repeated once more, firmly.

Caleb usually wasn't ahead of everyone else in the class, but he hoped everyone caught up soon - the sounds of talking toadstools was really making his ears ring. As everyone continued to work around him, Caleb grabbed his pot and walked over to the labels.

He took the sticker and plopped it on his pot, then hurried over to Greenhouse Two where the rest of his classmates who had finished had placed their toadstools. He added his to the collection and then headed back to his desk.

Sooooo...what now?

The toadstool was getting louder at its chanting. It was great and all that it appeared to be a great fan of dragons, but it was growing annoying. As well as the ones around her.

"It's time to shut you up," she told it, patting its toadstool head. It was nice to see it was healthy and blabbing away, but she'd go crazy and consider other methods of shutting it up if this doesn't work.

Holding her wand in front of it, she made a jabbing motion as she cast, "Silencio!" The toadstool still 'talked' but no sound came from it. Now, if only the rest would shut up too.

Gosh.

It was LOUD in here. Professor Groundskeeper was right. These things could be annoying. Straining his ears over the noise, Adi tried to hear exactly what the man was saying. The toadystools didn't appreciate each others company? Not one bit surprising.

Well, it was time to get practicing. The Silencing Charm was one he was familiar with so it shouldn't be too difficult for him to get this task done fast. "Silencio... Silencio... Silencio... Silencio.'' Got it! Jabs with the wand was pretty much simple. So, onto trying making his toadstool be silent now? Because for the last moments it was mimicking the spell's incantation after Adi had practiced it.

Cilla listened attentively to how the Silencing Charm was pronounced. However, it was a rather difficult task for Cilla to do as the toadstool in front of her was making the most annoying of noises.

Since the wand movement was not complicated, Cilla focused purely on saying the spell correctly.

"Si-LEN-see-oh, si-LEN-see-oh, si-LEN-see-oh, Silencio," Cilla repeatedly softly under her breath until she was confident enough to put the spell to use.

Silencio. He could do that. Not that he had ever really cast the charm before, but it seemed easy enough, right? Especially if so many people could do it silently. Heh. The irony. Silent silencio charm. AHEM. There was a point to this. .... Or was there? One could never really be sure with Zander Adair.

Though, the charm... That he had to practice as again, he never really got around to preforming it himself. "Si-LEN-see-oh," that wasn't hard to say. And it wasn't all that weird of a pronunciation either. Pft. Wasn't bad. "Si-LEN-see-oh!" Ha. He could totally do that! Though charms wasn't typically his strong suite or anything... "Silencio! Silencio!"

And in all that madness, he had completely lost sight of the fact that his little Toadstool was starting to get a lot better. It was already beginning to mimic everything the Fifth Year was saying. It squealed back some versions of his 'silencio' and the Prefect got all squinty at it. "No, I'm silencing YOU!" Squuiiiint. The toadstool picked up the last bit of that too though and gave Z a nice little 'silencing YOU' right back.

... Oh Merlin. Was he really arguing with a plant?

Geez. Fifth Year was really taking a toll on him, huh?

Cilla's eardrums were starting to hurt badly. So much so that she hoped that she could pull of the spell without any hassle. She concentrated hard on the incantation as she jabbed her wand at her talking toadstool and firmly said, "Silencio!"

Her strong concentration skills must've done the job because there wasn't any more noise. Cilla breathed a little sigh of relief.

Poorer talking toadstools, being made to shut up and all that. What happened to freedom of speech at this school? HUH? ... Zeke shrugged to himself, "Sorry boy... girl... toadstool thing that you are," he apologised, tapping it on the cap with his gloved index finger. Yep. They were totes bonding. It even started squeaking what he'd said, but he didn't listen... the Professor was teaching them a charm. WEEEE!

He'd never cast Silence before, but it was one of those ones he figured would be handy. For like, silencing his footsteps when sneaking, and silencing annoying people who talked too much... yeah, all those good things.

First thing first though, he wrote all this information down. It was good to know.

"Silencio..... jab," he stated slowly as his quill moved across his page.

"Silencio, silencio... sciiiilencciiiiooooo."

Janelle spotted the labels and quickly grabbed one for herself. She wrote her name on it, making the letters as large as possible. Wouldn't want any mixups now would we? Placing the sticker where it would easily be seen, she was all set. "OK Toady, we're going to take a little trip now. Don't be scared. You're going to like the other greenhouse." Janelle knew that she was talking to a toadstool, but it was a living thing. Living things liked to know that someone cared about them.

Carefully picking up her toadstool, Janelle set off for Greenhouse Two. In the meantime, she decided to test out her theory about music and healing. On the way, she began to sing softly to her little fungus friend. Then Janelle wondered......how would it feel to have your voice silenced? She was sure that she wouldn't like it very much, but what about Toady? Was he wanting to sing back to her? She guessed she'd never know.

At that moment, they arrived at Greenhouse Two. Janelle found the main desk and placed her pot in an empty spot. "Goodbye Toady. You'll be fine here. You look a lot better already. I'm sure I'll be seeing you again......Bye" With her goodbyes said, Janelle returned to the classroom and waited for further instructions.

The practice was down!

Now it was actually time to silence the toadystool which was still saying its own version of 'Silencio' "That's not it,'' Adi began in an attempt to correct the thing. "Si-len-si-o.'' He said it as slowly as he would as if the toadstool really say the right stuff eventually.

"Silencey.'' Adi eyed the fungus. "Nice try,'' he told it "But we need to work on the way you hear stuff.'' Hearing... did that mean these fungi had ears? Hmmm. Anyway. No more wasting time. "Silencio!'' With a smart jab of his wand, the toadstool became silent in mid word. "Silenc-'' Not a sound more came from the toadystool.

Excellent!

Cilla retrieved a sticker label and wrote her name on the label before placing the label on the pot.

Cilla took a bit of time admiring the little toadstool that she helped to nurse back to health. This reminded her of being in her home in Liverpool, helping her mother tend to the garden. It also reminded her of volunteering at the local hospital in its own way.

Cilla picked up the pot and escorted the toadstool to Greenhouse Two. She carefully placed the pot down on the main desk and as she left Greenhouse Two, smiled at the toadstool.

She then made her way back to class.

The task was done, wasn't it? She revived the poor-looking plant and got it talking; it was still going at it but no sound came out. Making sure it was okay and it was firmly planted on the soil, Beverly took one of the labels and jotted her name down on it.

Beverly Wayne.

There.

She stuck it to the pot and carefully lifting it in her arms, she took it over to greenhouse two. Leaving it there she returned to her spot, looking for the time. Was it nap time, yet?

Now that the Talking Toadstool was silent, Adi grabbed one of the stickers to write his name on:
Everyone knew him by now, yes? He had grown accustomed to just using the shortened version of his name by now. He set down his quill before putting the sticker on the pot. All done! Carefully picking up the pot, Adi headed over to Greenhouse two where he left the potted fungus on the main desk as instructed.

Back among his classmates, Adi resumed his seat. Sooo, were they done or were there more stuff to be done? He didn't mind either option.

Gah! It was getting loud in here now. It wasn't so bad when it was just her Toadstool but now it was everyone's and it got loud and annoying very quickly.

However the Professor moved on with the lesson by teaching them how to shut the toadstools up. Perfect. Grabbing her parchment and quill she quickly wrote down the charm 'Silencio' and that it was done with just a simple jab. Easy enough.

"Si-LEN-see-oh... si-LEN-see-oh..." Hady repeated several times getting a feel for the charm. This didn't seem to difficult.

Figuring it was going to be easy as pie, Zeke didn't bother practicing the incantation much more, nor the wand movement. Jabbing was almost second nature to him now, and the incantation wasn't much of a tongue twister, he'd had WAYYY harder ones in his first year. It was going to be a breeze.

Wand gripped between his fingers, Zeke performed the charm as he figured it ought to be performed. He jabbed his Larch in the direction of the toadstool and recited the simple word, "Silencio."

"There," he said triumphantly, puffing out his chest a little. Done!!!

'There,' the toadstool repeated.


Huh?

Whaaaaa?

...

"You're not mean to make any sound now," he informed the stupid fungi as he raised his wand again. "Silencio!" he repeated with conviction, jabbing his wand once more.

He didn't say anything this time, instead he just stared at the thing. Had it worked? Did he need to test it? How would he know if it had worked? What if the toadstool was trying to trick him into thinking it had worked? Could they do that? Was it possible to do that without a brain?

Norah grinned as the toad stool squeaked some high pitched version of 'Silencio' back at her. Heh its voice was just so CUTE. She gave it one more soft pat with two fingers before picking her wand up again. Silencio take two. "Sorry toad stool, sorry." Her heart just about MELTED when the toadstool said 'Sorrryyy'. WHY did she have to do this? Sigh sigh SIGH. But she didn't want cool Professor Millard to think she was bad. So many choices.

With another long, drawn out sigh, Norah jabbed her want at the cutie toadstool and said, "Silencio," halfheartedly. The toadstool didn't say anything back, and she wasn't entirely sure whether she should be happy or sad about the fact that she'd managed to do a new spell. But teenagers were mopey about things, right? And being thirteen made HER a real live teenager so mopey it was. Mope mope mope. It was hard to mope in front of cute toadstools, apparently, but she only smiled thrice ONCE, so it totally counted. Totally.

There was nothing, not even a single peep from the toadstool, but that meant nothing to him.

"Boo," he said to it, his hazel eyes locked on the small specimen of fungal growth. Yeah. BOO. Whatcha gotta say about that?

...

Nothing.

Still nothing.

Shrugging, Zeke figured he'd done it right. Even with the other sounds in the room, nothing was coming from his toadstool. Nothing. Not a single peep, and he'd even gone to the length of talking to it. Huzzah!

Writing his name on one of the spare stickers, he stuck it to the pot.

And with that task done, all he had to do was take it to greenhouse two! Scooping up the pot, Zeke held it at eye level and watched his toadstool as he carried it away. Fascinating things. He could imagine it being a decent pet. Good company, even if it might be a little repetitive.

Returning promptly, Zeke positioned himself where he had left his things and added a couple of points to his notes. Was that all for today?

After practicing several times saying the charm Hady was ready to give it a shot. Pulling out her wand she twirled it between her fingers a moment whispering to the Toadstool so he'd repeat her.

She kinda liked having it repeat her it was fun. Not to mention it was cute. She had to silence it though that was part of the lesson. So with a deep sad sigh she jabbed her wand firmly at her newest plant friend as she stated clearly "Silencio!".

Did it work? Tilting her head at the Toadstool she waited to see if it'd say anything. Frowning she whispered a quiet 'hello' to it. Would it? In a way she hoped it would but then that'd mean the charm hadn't worked and she'd have to try again. However after a full thirty seconds went by and the toadstool didn't do anything Hady knew her charm had worked.

So these toadstools were kind of weird huh? Maybe Professor Millard would let him visit his and maybe teach it a few words of Mermish he'd learned over the summer. But....at the point in time, Ezra needed to learn how to shut the thing up rather than begin its journey to become bilingual.

Twirling his wand in his left hand, the Gryffindor went over the incantation in his head again. He'd done the spell before but he hadn't really used it often enough to expect any great success without practice. He pointed his wand at the ground, trying to not cast on anything in particular and jabbed it as he enunciated, "Si-len-cio!"

Sounded about right, jab and say the frenchy sounding shut up charm.

Okay not so cool when it got louder.

Or rather the other talking toadstools got louder because Benny wasn't speaking so his charge didn't have much if anything to echo. Unless it was picking up the others and then the din was only added to. Benny was ready for the next step that was more sure. A return to the quiet of the greenhouse would be very much wanted and warranted right about now.

Benny listened as the professor spoke up once more, reminding them of what they would be using. The Silencing charm. They had learned that before during some year he believed. It was just a matter of remembering it and getting it right again. Perfect for OWLs studying. "Silencio...Sil-en-sio...Silencio...Sil-en-sio...Silencio." The fifth year practiced the incantation to make sure he was still pronouncing it they way it should.

Unfortunately it also sent his toadstool trying to echo it. So not good for focus.

With all the practice Lux was doing as well as all the practicing around her, the toadstool she was working with had unfortunately picked up a new word: "Si-LEN-see-oh. Si-LEN-see-oh. Si-LEN-see-oh..."

... "Just brilliant." She was supposed to make the thing be quiet, not give it more to say. For something adorable, this plant was proving to be kind of annoying. Right, she wasn't going to deal with this anymore because enough was enough.

Giving another jab towards the toadstool with her wand, Lux called out "Silencio!"

Aaah, much better. Now she could actually hear herself think.
