The FIRST lessssssooonnn... finally? ... He was beginning to wonder if the subject was cancelled, apparently not. Good! He rather liked getting his hands dirty.

Entering the greenhouse with the open door - a sure sign that people were there if ever he saw one - Zeke strode down the length of the table and opted for a seat as close to the Professor person as possible. HI THERE. Zeke beamed, watching as the man rocked on his feet.

"Heelloooo groundskeeper, professor person, Millard, Sir!" Cue SALUTE.

Were they playing with fleshies today? the fire plant things? anything that could strangle them? kill them? poison them? eat them? PLEASE!

Her hands were freezing okay? Freezing. She tightened her scarf and adjusted her mitten as she made her way to the greenhouses. She had even cast a warming charm on her robes and her tights just to make sure the extra nip of the winter air.

Shivering she made her way into the Greenhouses and found a work station to stash her things by before changing into her dragon-hide work gloves. “Hello Professor Millard,” she grinned over to the job to not only teach about all of the plants and well be awesome probably?

Brooklyn was still a little confused by the announcement that the groundskeeper was going to be teaching Herbology this term. That and a little dubious regarding if he’d even be good at it. Honestly, she sort of missed Professor Walton, even though in general she didn’t care for the subject in general. Either way, she made sure to make her way out to the greenhouse for the lesson. If anything, she’d find out if her original opinion of the subject was still true.

“Hello, Professor Millard,” she greeted the small man, silently adding the groundskeeper part. It was what he was after all, but she’d be polite. At least she wouldn’t have to deal with an overly cheery professor. A sort of scared looking one was interesting. She’d made her way over to a seat near Hady either way, in case they’d be working in groups again. They’d worked okay together before. She couldn’t tell what they’d be dealing with, though. All she’d seen was the normal greenhouse stuff and the groundskeeper. Who, now that she thought about it, should at least know how to take care of plants.

It was still kinda weird to think that the Groundskeeper was now teaching Herbology. Grayson hadn't exactly talked to the guy but he'd always assumed that he was one of those that liked to sit in a comfy chair in his grandpa's jumper and munch on enough Christmas pies for three people. Just seemed like that kinda dude.

ANYWAYS. He was here. Herbology. A subject he wasn't tooooo sure about. It was cool in that they had dealt with vicious flesh-eating plants before but then there were the ridiculously airy fairy ones that only made the sixteen year old turn his nose up at.

Entering the greenhouse, the Slytherin gave Millard a 'sup nod while saying, "Hey, Professor!" Seat? Yeah, he was gonna go and sit riiiiiight over there in that empty seat that was close to the back of the greenhouse. This was where the cool people sat, obviously.

"Adi" Margo nearly shouted smiling at him. "How are you?" She asked patting the seat next to her for him to sit. She had seen him at the club meeting, but felt like they hadn't seen each other much since the start of the term. It made her little sad to be honest.

One thing was for sure, Zander must be happy that the previous Herbology Professor was gone. Seeing as he had even stepped out of his safety zone to get revenge at his words , true gryffindor spirit the now Prefect had shown that day. It had been awesome. Even if his revenge was simply stealing the plants but he guessed it had been a big motion for him.

With this in his mind, Kevin had a slight smile on his face as he thought back. By being to much in thought, he failed to recognize the Professor waiting at the door and he walked past him without saying anything. Not that he cared of course, since he usually didn't greet Professors in general.

Spotting his best friend, Zander in the crowd, Kevin immediately walked towards him and sat down next to him. "Ay man" he greeted and it was then that he noticed the Professor standing near the door. He knew he had been the Groundskeeper as well but he had never seen him before so close. "He's so short" he whispered to the Prefect and laughed.

And SLAM, went that door!!

Probably the best way for this short man to make a statement, he supposed. He cleared his throat and made his way back to the front of the greenhouse. "Hello, everyone." Archie's arms were raised for a moment, as if he was trying to let the students know that he was actually standing there. Hello?!? Yes. Let's begin. "For those of you who don't know me," Which they SHOULD because he was here last year... who was he kidding, these kids didn't know him. "My name is Professor Millard." Heh. Professor. "As well as being your groundskeeper, I am also your new Herbology professor. Please try and keep noise to a minimum. I don't have the loudest voice in Hogwarts!" Archie let out a short snort!chuckle.

He soon stopped laughing and pretended to pass it off as a cough.

"Anyway. Excuse me." He finally clapped his raised hands together, then placed them behind his back. "As this is our first lesson together, I would like to learn your names as best as I can. I've got a roll of blank stickers, so if you could all write your name on there and stick it on your robes, that would be very helpful!" Archie passed the roll of stickers to the first person on his right.

"Anyway... moving onto Herbology..." So much to say for such a little voice box. Nervous, little voice box. Archie paused to breath in the air of plant excretion. It was GOOD for you, you know. "Such a WIDE subject, really... today we are going to, I suppose, carry on slightly from last term's lessons with your last professor." The lovely Andy. He was nice from what Archie knew of him at least. He didn't know him.

"Before we look at actual plants today, I want to ask you all a simple question. What is a toadstool? Please, feel free to expand on your answer. I'm looking for different types, characteristics, uses... everything!" Archie clapped again, (was this becoming a thing?) which meant GO... basically.



ooc: Class has officially started! Any latecomers from this point will lose points. Just pretend you have been here the whole time! Will be continuing tomorrow afternoon-ish.

Okay, he was nervous, and short. AJ didn't even realize this before. She knew that he was the groundskeeper, but she had never had any interaction with him so he was pretty much new in her eyes. More name tags? That seemed to be a thing, but it was dead useful. When the roll of stickers made its way over to her, she scribbled down her name barely legible and passed it on. The sticker was stuck to her robes. It may even be a bit quicker. The lion wasn't trying to be difficult, she was just ready to get on with it.

Toadstools. What did she know about them? Her hand shot into the air. Ohh, ohh... pick me! "It's a fungus." And some of them were a pretty shade of red, and that was her favorite color. No need to keep talking though.

Adi was relieved! Phew! Professor Groundskeeper didn't mind but honestly, he would prefer to call the man that instead of Professor Millard. That name sounded so much cooler.

"I'm great,'' Adi told Margo as he set his quill down and at the exact moment AJ arrived too and bringing with her a shoulder bump. "Hey.'' He smiled at her before turning to Margo. "Margo, this is my girlfriend AJ. AJ, this is Margo, the little sister.'' He was sandwiched between two of his favourite persons. He was pleased. Oh, hey Benny! Adi returned the greeting to his bestie.

When the roll of stickers reached him, Adi took one, wrote his name in nice big letters then stuck it to his robes. The shortened version of his name was included just in case Millard had trouble with his actual name.

As for the question, he raised a hand after AJ offered her answer. "A toadstool is a poisonous mushroom, Professor Groun- Millard. Some types are Biting and Leaping toadstools.'' A short answer and to the point. Now his classmates can expand on that.

And class was beginning!

Clearly the Professor wasn't familiar with her name yet, but that was no matter since they would be making name tags. Taking one of the stickers, she wrote her name down before sticking it onto her robes:

Hehe, she had to admit these name tags were pretty nifty things. Must be why so many Professors wanted them these days. After momentarily wondering why Walton had left after only one term, she raised her hand to answer the question about toadstools. "I believe that toadstools are basically mushrooms and they are toxic." Honestly she didn't know much about fungus.

Toadstools? Snore. As usual. Caleb didn't know why he ever got his hopes up that they were going to do anything fun in this class. Still, Millard seemed to be doing ok...he seemed to be really nervous, though. That was understandable, being a first time professor and all. They were nice, he promised!

Well, most of them were.

He raised his hand to answer the question. "Toadstools are basically mushrooms, right?" he answered. It was just a fancy word for all of it, right?

Eden was sad. SO sad that....Professor Hottie wasn't here anymore. She had no issues with....Professor...Millard, was he? But yeah. She was still SADDENED. Sigh. They had totally bonded last term.

Sadness.

But she enjoyed Herbology so....yeah. It seemed they were talking about mushrooms. How cute. She had opened up her notebook to take notes and, alas, she had begun doodling little mushrooms in her notebook. They had faces. And spots. Owo. So cute.

She raised her hand. "Well toadstools are mushrooms, right? They taste really nice on pizza." She said softly. Was that....not an answer he was looking for? It was important knowledge.

Janelle amused herself by watching the students file in. People watching was always entertaining. Then it was time for class to begin. The Professor had name stickers and Janelle waited for the roll to be passed to her before taking one. She wrote her name on the sticker and placed it on her robe.

As she heard the first question being asked, Janelle raised her hand to give her answer. "A toadstool is like a mushroom. It's shaped like an umbrella." Actually toadstools and mushrooms kind of gave her the creeps for some reason. She wasn't sure why. Was that what they'd be working with today?

Writing his name on those name tag label things for the professors was fast becoming one of Toby's least favourite things, but he didn't complain or anything 'cause it was only FAIR because they had to remember everyone's names somehow. He simply wrote 'Toby' on his own and slapped it onto the front of his uniform.

Toadstools then. Toby stuck his hand up in the air, debating all the while about just what fact he might provide. Thing was, all the different things he knew swam about in his head without making much sense, and he knew if he tried saying them out loud it would just end up a confusing mess of an answer. So when he spoke, Toby found himself going a different route altogether.

"They're called toadstools 'cause someone figured they looked like the kind of place for a toad to sit on, and sometimes that happens, but really, I don't think happens very often. I've never actually seen a toad and a toadstool in the same place, y'know?" A bit like Bruce Wayne and Batman.

Ah right...

The teacher needed to know his name and was it Kace or did the professor seem a bit nervous. I mean of course he was. It was his first time teaching students and he smirked to himself and began to write down his name on a piece of parchment.

There now that would be easier. Now time to answer some questions. He wanted to know about Toadstools. He thought about it and asked while raising his hand, "Professor could they be used in cooking?"

As the roll of stickers made its way to her she removed one and passed the roll to the next person. With a perfect script she simply wrote 'Hady' down on it and stuck it to the front of her robes. Simple enough for now.

What was a toadstool? It was Mario's friend on Super Mario? Did that count? Probably not but yeah...technically she'd have been correct though, more or less cause if she was being technical his name was Toad but yeah anyhow...

Trying not to laugh at her thought she raised her hand to give a proper answer. "A toadstool is another name for a mushroom I think and some types are poisonous." It was best to stick to the answer that would be helpful in this subject and not muggle video games.

As Emmylou looked around the classroom then at Kace because she was sitting next to him as usual. Kace was always so studious and Emmylou was too but in some classes she would zone out and if Kace just kept talking or any of her friends really she would be able to pay attention more. Her friends weren't distractions to her at all. Emmylou had noticed that the professor had seemed a little nervous. She had seen him around before and she knew that he was no professor so something knew like this would be nerve wrecking to anyone that tried it out. Teaching a class full of students at any age was not very easy and that's why Emmylou wants to be a professor or even a muggle teacher.

She assumes that the professor didn't know her name because most people didn't know her name at all so she took out her paper and wrote her name on it.

It makes sense in my head though." Emmy scratched the back of her head. She knew what she meant but she wasn't sure if anyone else would know what she meant.

Norah liked this guy. Y'know why? She'll TELL you why. They were both shor. And he taught Herbology, obviously, which was always something to be respected. Except for Meany-pants Walton but he was mean and totally didn't count, even if they did do cool plant things with him. But yeah. Go you, Professor Millard. The third year grinned at him just so he KNEW he already had a fan club, and picked up her quill to start on a name tag.

"They like to grow where its dark and damp, which is kinda funny 'cause they look like little umbrellas. More like an umbrella for a toad than a stool for a toad, really, which doesn't make much sense but I dunno." Heh.

Zahra lost it when Professor MILLARD giggle!snorted at his own joke. Oh man, new Professor Plants was gonna be awesome.

She wrote her name on the sticker thing:

Agatha was looking around uninterested as the lesson barely started and all of her classmates were just repeating themselves.

A toadstool was like a mushroom, yes, they had gotten that already. The Slytherin rolled her eyes and decided to not answer because she would just say that again since it was the only thing she knew.

Deep down, the fifth year hoped more people answered stupidly so she could give them looks of disapproval. It felt great doing that. Though it would feel even better if she had a clever answer to give first and blow everyone's minds, but she didn't. So she stayed quiet even after sticking her name tag to her robes, just waiting for the next person to give a silly answer so she could roll her eyes again.

Cilla grabbed a sticker and wrote her name which she stuck to her robes.

She listened to the question, trying to think of an answer that hadn't been mentioned. Nothing sprung into her mind so she just listened to her fellow students.

Mitchell took one of the stickers and wrote his name on it. First name only. As was his style.

She was disgusting. Utterly. Once he got that out of his system, he turned back to face the Professor once again before raising his hand into the air. "A lot of them are used for potions, sir... Like the biting ones... Their fangs... And then Shaggy Sapphire-uh-ones and uh... Even the Talking ones." Nothing about poop.

Bleu quietly scribbled her name on a sticker.

Hugh was unprepared for class today. Unsurprisingly as the young philosopher, in his mind at least, was pretty much constantly unprepared for class. He reasoned it wasn't his fault for many reasons. All of which were sound in logic but no Professor would ever take seriously. He was not Kant, that's for sure. Dreams were dreams for a purpose. Maybe he'd get there.

Today was not that day.

Today he was stumbling and fumbling around, yo, just trying to get through the day. Not well. No, not well at all.

He quickly scratched his name onto a sticker and put that puppy on. YO, Hughbert was the name. And there was NO way you could wear that out. It wasn't even a name worth wearing inside. Leave it in the closest.

He was so fond of it.

As to the OTHER stuff, like the question asked, Hugh did attempt an answer, "A toadstool is a living thing." Right? He had no idea. He was a philosopher, not a herbologist.
