Default Gryffindor House Table

banner made by Cedric

The Lions sit under a beautiful scarlet and gold banner representing their house. Their solid, shiny wooden table is nicely polished with all the place settings perfectly set. The food will arrive after the Headmistress' traditional feast speech. To all Gryffindors, both new and old: enjoy the feast!

Default Puck and Amur. also we see Zander.

Silas looked at Puck in silence for a long time. It was a trick wasn't it? Lure the younger kids in with promises of rule breaking whilst wearing a badge. Pfft. Silas wasn't falling for it. Nope. She was just trying to get him to admit tp wrong dping and BAM he was toast.

We've got you figured out, Prefect.

Silas politely nodded and gave another shrug. "You got it for a reason I'm sure. " What else was he supposed to say when she was being self deprecating? Either way he qas wary of her and thus far nothing was gonna change his mind. Nope. "Hmm. Family drama is never good. " Seriously, that sucked.

His attention was caught by the smaller girl sitting near him... spitting in her hand and shaking the other Prefects hand. Hmmm. Gross. And interesting. He quirked an eyebrow at the display and then shook his head. "That's unsanitary, " he said with a shudder of disgust...

AND THEN THERE WAS FOOD! Yay! YUM! Where was Archie? SIGHS FOR LIFE. His attention was caught once more when the younger girl apoke under her breath. Hahahaha! He nearly spat his pumpkin juice down his front. Hehehe. He gave her a soft smile and handed her a roll even though she hadn't asked him. He felt the same way. It wasn't a JOB, per se? It should be viewed as a privilege, no? Oh well... he was keeping his eyes and ears open where these two were concerned.

Default Zander, Silas - mentions of Bianca xD
*sappysapper* MAJNOO, YO!

In all honesty, Noel was curious to see if other tables had the same kind of food his table had or was it any different, so the boy made his way to the Gryffindor table.

And maybe he could trip and have Bianca spill pumpkin juice all over herself. The thought alone made him smile.

Eyeing the food, and contemplating if he should sit and eating here - Noel noticed Zander right away. "HEYYY. Congrats on the badge, man" the boy grinned, patting the senior on the back. He never really cared for the prefect thing but Zander deserved it. He so did.

Noticing another familiar face, a face he had just befriended at the train - Noel waved at him too. "'Hey Silas, enjoying the food?"

"I've heard you have another nickname, Zander." He didn't elaborate further because he figured the Gryffindor would know what he was talking about. "Yep. This year is going to be a good one. Minus OWLs of course.'' Meh. Pesky exams. But there was time for that. The Hufflepuff laughed. "So... that colour of your face right now isn't you going red?" Oh that was too bad. "Sure, I'll go sometime with you. Do you reckon she'll be allowed in the Castle soon?"

"Goody." Adi said that word automatically but he wondered if Benny would have a reaction to that. It was a word he used rather frequently during his Hatter state and the Hufflepuff knew he hated to be reminded of those times. It was maybe not a good thing to have mentioned to Benny during the aftermath. But then again, he had told him all the details.

Adi quickly moved on. "He's looking at you with those big toady eyes of his." Probably wondering if Benny was ready to stuff him down another teapot. "Looks like it's speech time.'' Adi had at that moment directed his attention to the Staff table where the Head was now speaking.

Reunion? Activity? Adi's mind was in a whirl! This was going to be an exciting year then. Bring it on! Oh looky! Food! This meant that he had to be getting back to his Badgers soon.

Benny didn't think anything of the choice of word Adi used. He slowly turned his head, almost as if he could look back into Gus' eyes but it was impossible from the angle they both were in. "You watching me?" Ben absently questioned before focusing back on the front staff table when the Headmistress got up for her speech. Pretty standard, including the new staff for the term, reminding the Gryffindor of those they had lost. Hadley had been the one that he thought of most, though it was going to be weird to have another new herbology professor.

The mention of a reunion wasn't that interesting to him. It wasn't like they were invited to the event anyway. But Benny shared his friend's attention to the nameless special activity that was to come down the line. "Wonder what it is..." he mused, turning back to his friends when it was over. The smells of the now-present food catching his nose.

SPOILER!!: Lux

"She's scary, but I had a lot of fun during the fashion show last term. I want to be a part-time model when I'm a little older because Justine said I would be good at it." The fashion show gave her an opportunity to practice more and get the feeling of what it was like to walk on a professional catwalk.

So she had been one of the group who had actually enjoyed last terms assignments. "Oh...that's cool" he said simply, unsure of how to proceed. "Maybe this term will show some different types of spells." You know...for those not interested in fashion like himself.

SPOILER!!: Angel

Angel giggled at Lux. "I'll do my best, I've always wanted to do someone's hair." Angel was glad that Lux had agreed. "Maybe we can do a few other things as well and make it a girly day." Angel was totally going to ask her parents about a sleep over at Christmas with a few friends, she hadn't done one for ages. "If you need anything Lux, like a study partner, someone to talk to then I'm always around." Angel really wanted to make this term special for her friend.

Angel looked at Zander. "You okay?" Angel could tell that the smile was fake. He wasn't mad with her about anything, she looked upset with herself know though she couldn't figure out what she could have done to upset the prefect. "It will be, maybe one day we can go and explore places together." Angel wondered if he would be up for that. "I want to go all over the world.

"I like Creatures, don't get me wrong it a good subject but nothing is better than Herbology." Angel beamed. "I've always wanted to work with plants in fact I have my own garden at home." Angel really missed the garden but she got to spend loads of time with it in the summer.

"I can't wait for Herbology lessons to start." Angel really wished that the time for lessons would come but she knew that a few people probably wouldn't be looking forwards to them as much as she was.

Angel gave the ghost her best smile as she watched him glance over to the Ravenclaw table. "Sound very interesting." Angel was being truthful. "If you need any help don't be afraid to ask Sir Nicholas." Angel would totally love to help out her house ghost with anything, he was a nice guy, she was totally going to try and find out when his birthday was so she could get him a present.

Angel giggled. "Oh so sorry about that." Angel winked, she had known that so that was why she had posed. "I charge for every photo you take of me you know." Angel lied. "5 galleons a time, 10 galleons if you want to be involved in the photo." Angel then listened to what else he said. "I was a bit confused about different things and I don't think you would have, because I'd have probably eaten you for lunch." Angel stuck her tongue out. "I'm amazing and I'm very smart, that's how he puts up with me." Angel said truthfully. "We'll have to wait and see about that." Angel replied about the new Professors.

"Yeah really." Angel winked. "Your going to ace your owls, I am not having you failing them." Angel didn't want to see Benny fail his Owls that would be so bad and she would feel like it was her fault. "So I'll be Owling your Parents tomorrow to see if I can borrow some of your old school books and then I'll be quizzing you." Angel wondered if she could do the same for Adi but she wasn't sure her sister would let her.

"Oh yeah, you will have to be on your toes." Angel smirked. "I hope your ready for the strictest teacher you've ever had." Angel had never tried being a teacher before so now was her chance right.

"Yeah the staircases move." Angel replied. "The first time it happened to me, I was a bit frightened, it's okay unless you are heading in the right place and then the staircase moves and your suddenly going the wrong way." That had happened to her a few times but she was getting used to it know. "Oh I know what you mean about the measuring tape, I screamed the first time they used that on me, I'm muggleborn you see, so all this was new to me." Angel smiled. "Anyway I'm Angel or Ang for short, that was what AJ called me, I'm one of triplets you see."

Benny raised an eyebrow at the question posed to Angel. Yeah, bestie, he heard that and he couldn't help but be curious to how his girlfriend was going to respond. "Good answer..." he commented with a smile. She may make him nuts or embarished at times but there were the good things she mentioned that made it worth while.

"Glad to see I have a support team," he said with a chuckle before bringing himself up short at the mention of his parents. Borrowing his old books? Somehow it still felt weird to see or know of Angel and his mum and dad interacting in any way. "I think Lafay has one up on you." There was no way she could be as bad as her. Angel wouldn't be able to replicate the fear she instilled in her that Culloden was chipping away at.

SPOILER!!: Amur<3

Her questions had died on her lips, though so many more bubbled up. Some of them perhaps Zander could answer and others she knew she would have to ask Tippin. If she could find him again. That seemed to be the most troublesome question of all. Where did he keep popping off to?

There was something that Zander said, before he agreed to her ideas and called them great, that gave her initial excitement pause. The bursting need to launch into plans of how to help and what to do bubbled and brewed just beneath the surface of that statement that went round-and-round-and-round in her head.

'But sometimes, sometimes they don't really want what we think they want.'

Her eyes chased it around her dinner plate, doing circle after circle. It lingered in thought before slipping to mingle in with memories of the squirrels she had cared for when she was younger, and something that Corrigan had said to her in Diagon Alley. She couldn't really attest to fully understanding it, but there was something in it that tugged at her. A hesitancy she had never felt before when she set off to help something, or someone.

Amur's lips puckered out before the sigh that was attempting to escape fluttered them into a noisy pffft. She tilted her head slightly to peer at Zander from the corner of her eyes, barely registering the badge anymore. "Can I come with you?"

No, hold on. Something else her cousin had instilled in her: asking almost always led to a 'no', declaring gave little other option. So, she squared her shoulders as best as she could and turned to face Zander a bit better. "I'd like very much to come with you." The nod at the end made her feel a little more authoritative than her voice had managed to convey. In fact, it had still sounded like a question. She was going to have to work on that.

And then she heard it, a suspicious statement that curled her toes in her shoes and her eyes slid around the boy in the most colorful shoes she had ever see, and to the girl that was grinning at Zander. She couldn't be sure who the 'her' had been indicated towards, as Zander seemed versed in many manners of conversation, including a peck to the cheek that made Amur's mouth scrunch up in all manner of weird ways, but it was Zander that ultimately confirmed it. The first year bit and the inclination towards her.

Despite the badge pinned on the girl, the Prefect badge, Amur couldn't help the huff of hot air that had risen in her and brought enough color to her cheeks to match the boy's shoes. "I'm not some 'job' to be handled." It was directed more at Zander, and under her breath too, just in case the girl Prefect hadn't meant her. Really, she couldn't be sure, but she thought she was sure.

Thankfully, the Headmaster's speech was upon them and drowned out most of her muttering. She listened half attentively, her thoughts continuously bouncing away to thoughts of elves and sweaters, Prefects and 'jobs' and those pink shoes that tapped rhythmically. And then there was the food, suddenly appearing, giving Amur a bit of a fright.

She stared at it with wide, unblinking eyes. Was it real this time? Could she actually eat it? She rubbed one eye with a fist, her stomach grumbling in want. Hesitantly, she tugged on Zander's sleeve. "Could you, uh, pass a bread roll?"

Yes, good plan. If he could touch it, move it and hand it to her then it couldn't be her imagination. Unless, it still could be her imagination. She was the one forming the idea of asking him for it, and thus him passing it, so it wouldn't be hard to see in her mind's eye. In fact, she already could see it. Her eyes went a little wider and she withered slightly.

"Actually, nevermind."

No, she would wait until others started taking their first bites. That would work, right? After all, what was the worst that could go wrong? There were no more cookies up her sleeve.

The Gryffindor watched the younger girl carefully, thoroughly enjoying how concentrated she seemed. Even though this subject wasn’t one that should really cause so much distress so early in her Hogwarts career, it was endearing that she was taking so much time to understand. It looked as if she really, truly cared for the matter and she probably did. It put his own thoughts in perspective even. Here he was worrying about every little thing, not putting emphasis on any one thought more than the other. But Amur, she chose one specific matter and put her everything into it. Yes, very endearing after all, and though he wouldn’t want to admit it, kind of enlightening as well.

Perspective. Possibly the most important thing he would take away from this little first year. But perhaps, it was one of the most important lessons of all. Even more important than Arithmancy ‘cause let’s be honest… Will you ever need to know the meaning of numbers in the real world? No offense, Professor.

The Prefect kept his eyes on her as he watched her circle her own around the plate in front of her. A knut for her thoughts? Now he was curious. Though, she didn’t quite voice whatever was going on in her head, and Zander couldn’t help but feel the slightest bit disappointed as he was now pretty curious. Though what she said next, or requested next for that matter, took him by surprise. Looking at her with the goofiest of grins now, he nodded slightly, but wait— she wasn’t done. Still smiling at the shorter girl, he nodded, “Of course you can,” wait, no. “I mean, I would very much like it if you did.” Giving her a another small smile to indicate that he was going to say yes the entire time because she did sound very unsure of herself.

And that’s when he noticed the sudden anger bubbling up inside of her. Oh Merlin, had he managed to do something wrong… Again? And here he was thinking that this conversation and sitting down at this end of the table was maybe the one thing that was going right with his feast, but he managed to screw that up as well. Oh, man. Giving her an apologetic look, he shook his head. “No, that’s… That’s not what I meant,” okay, okay so maybe, maaaaaybe he really did care about the ‘lion cubs’. Before first years were just any regular old part of every new year, but now he felt personally responsible. Older students always had an impression on him when he was younger, and he wouldn’t wish his first year experience on anyone. Not to mention the fact that he was utter rubbish at talking to people and this whole ‘having to talk to ALL the people now that it was his job’ thing.

But… How could he convey that without digging himself even deeper down the hole? He glanced over at Puck and when he saw she wasn’t looking, he leaned over and whispered, “It’s both our first times and… Puck, she’s… She’s fantastic, don’t hold this against her.” Then looking around the table at the trays of food, he physically eased up a bit. It meant the feast was almost over. He had gotten through the hardest part, he could get through the rest. Then he’d just have to remain alright throughout the Welcome festivities… And then avoid Bart all night…. Hope that there won’t be any pranks awaiting him (which of course, there would be)… And then sleep off the whole day of horrible events and wake up and repeat. But, again, he realized he hadn’t completely finished his thoughts. “S’okay if you want to hold it again me though… I still promise to take you with me when we talk to the staff.” Besides, he already had a good handful of people against him at this point, so another one wouldn’t make it that much worse. Though he would be terribly disappointed if he had ruined Amur’s first feast just like that. The first one should always be a good memory, even if his wasn’t.

Hearing her ask for a bread roll, he immediately nodded and went to take hold of the tray, before he heard her change her mind. Oh? Okay… So instead, he grabbed one for himself, taking notice of the other boy who had reached out and grabbed one for her instead. The Gryffindor couldn’t help but be annoyed, knowing she had asked him, not that guy, but didn’t say much of it. Wasn’t important. Turning to see her empty plate, he raised a single brow, “I know there will probably be some snacks in the Common Room when we get back,” only this once though, because of the annual Welcome, “But aren’t you going to eat something? I’m sure Tippin would want that.” He secretly hoped that the mention of the elf would convince her. Was she hesitant because he had ruined her appetite? Merlin, he'd been hoping it'd be at least a few weeks in before people starting calling him Prefect Failure, but this... This was only the first day.

SPOILER!!: Puckelberry. this was a very important nickname i had to bring to your attention ok.

“Oh, I didn’t mean to offend you…” she sighed and gave Amur a little half smile. “I’m Puck, Zander’s friend and co-prefect…I just, was telling him good job because you know he’s probably a bit nervous like I am.” Really she was.

Puck chuckled, “of course I think so I mean…I wouldn’t know what its like to be a first year here” she admitted and bit her lip. Zander looked really pleased when she mentioned Justine being a model. “Yeah it is…oh it is the Wizarding Academy of Dramatic Arts” she grinned and chuckled, “apparently I already convinced Flamsteed that I’m Prefect Material” she chuckled and grinned at him. Okay…so Kace’s whole asking about something happening over summer…she hadn’t heard things and wanted to know. She just raised her eyebrow at him and glanced back and forth between Kace and Zander.

Zander appreciated Puck trying to help, he really did. But he also liked getting to know Amur on his own. And though he didn't necessarily mind that she was trying to join in and get to meet everyone, he couldn't understand how the heck she managed to do it so easily!? Zander had mostly just stuck to the people he knew so far, aside from the few first years, but Puck... She was like a social butterfly. Something that made Zander extremely uneasy just at the thought of it alone. He did enjoy talking to people and wasn't good at keeping his conversation concise... But new people... That was both intimidating and embarrassing all together. Still, he gave her a small appreciative smile as she tried to make amends for what she said. Though he wasn't quite sure if Amur would trust his fellow Prefect.

"Yeah, it's... Not the easiest year...," much like fifth year was turning out to be actually. Except it was a different kind of difficult. The classes weren't as bad and of course there wasn't the added pressure of responsibility that came with new Prefect positions, but it was difficult in of it's own. "Just trying to be a friend, you know?" Something he wished he had his first two years.

This Wizarding Academy of Dramatic Arts though... Well, it did sound a lot more pleasant than becoming a potioneer or an astrophysicist (no offense, Lottie). "Oh, well I could see you doing that," Not that she seemed like a totally dramatic person or anything, but she looked like she could be the type to appear on TV. Had the face for, it at least and that whole social butterfly thing too. That was very important. As for her raised eyebrow, he pretended as if he hadn't noticed what she was implying there. He had already tried to get Kace off his back, last thing he needed was someone else asking questions. "Oh, don't worry, it's nothing." Unless there really WERE rumors flying around. In which case, he'd eventually have to hunt Sir Nicholas down to ask him how a ghost got word of this stuff because clearly the ghost new the source of all this rumor spreading nonsense around the castle. Hmph. Yes, he was still bitter. And never letting it go.

SPOILER!!: Silas *la la la is an adamant quote separator* ALSO AMUR HERE TOO

The Prefect turned his head quickly at the sound of another voice, this time one that clearly had a hint of judgement laced around it. And the boy was addressing Amur with it. Well, that wouldn't do, now would it? UGH. Why did he even CARE? Yes, he'd defend her even before the badge thing, but for some reason he especially had a sense of fondness directed towards the smaller girl. And though he couldn't place it, it most definitely had to do with the fact that she had practically saved him from having to converse with any more of the swarming people. So really, he owed her one anyways. Knowing he was talking to her, Zander still chose to reply, "It's the only way to secure a promise, makes it official." And with that he looked towards Amur for her confirmation to solidify it. The strangest part is, his voice didn't even express the slightest bit of annoyance. Instead, he said it rather casually, as if it wasn't a big deal at all. Maybe it was just due to how exhausted he was or something? Yeah. Pft. That had to be it. Yeah.

But um yeah, he would not want to do the spit shake again please. Even Zander new how gross that was, but he was aware of feelings. Something which this boy was clearly oblivious to. Zander knew the type. He had been friends with Kevin third year, saw it all the time. Even his best mate made that mistake all the time, the disregard for other's.

SPOILER!!: Noel makes me a happy camper ok?

And that's when Zander decided to finally have a go at the food he had casually added to his plate, whilst trying to keep up with all the conversation and people around him. Feasts were so much easier when he could just slip in unnoticed. But apparently, the badge came with a free sign that said 'HEY YOU COME TALK TO ME, I DON'T WANT TO EAT ANYWAYS!" Not that he minded talking, but again... It was a bit uncomfortable to do so much of it all at once. Not to mention the swarming. Could they be done with the swarming, please?

And right as he went to finally take his first bite, he was attacked from behind by none other than Noel Wallace! Okay, okay... So attacked was a strong word. He liked the kid. And it was a gentle pat. But still. Setting his fork full of pasta down on his plate, he turned around with a smile. He wasn't happy to be putting off the eating thing, but you can't really frown when someone says 'congrats on the badge, man', proper manners and all. Though, he could definitely see that Newell guy frowning at someone who said that at this point... He'd been through a lot, hadn't he? "Oh, hi Noel," smiling 'cause your a friend and there aren't others swarming around with you. "Thanks... We should-uh-we should catch up some time... You know-uh- me, you, and Kevin too if he'd like." Kevin and Noel were... Kind of friends right? They had snuck into Bellaire's lair of topicality together that one time and really, wasn't that a deal sealer?

you wanna fite? | 💚 nickleback 💚 | Uh, anyway.

“Get real, Puckenstein,” Damien rolled his eyes at Puck, he was not even going to try getting the girl to let go of this insane and wholly untrue statement, it was clear that she had latched on and would not let it go. Oh shiz, this Chance guy was blond too? Were there no brunette dudes in Gryffindor? Damien waved to the dude.

“What’s up, man? Nice to meet you… “ He turned his attention back to Puck. “A ladder?” He laughed, he had to, his best friend was just so weird sometimes. “You’re aren’t tall enough to use as a ladder.” Casually, he stretched himself out, his long limbs spreading out behind Puck’s shoulders before casually poking the one furthest from him.

Totally genius.

He grinned at the red head, they’d only had a few conversations, but he had found her funny, and pretty sweet and Damien being the friendly easy going creature that he was; already counted her a friend. “I am now… Don’t tell anyone, but I think I fell in love tonight,” Damien said, winking playfully. It was true though, he had fallen in love, very much in love with Hogwarts, despite trying very hard not to for Rorie’s sake. He laughed at her words, that weird squeaky, honest laugh of his. “I like to think so, especially when they’re coming from a pipe,” He had decided that this particularly mahogany pipe was to be his prop for the term.

Damien was disappointed. No special cat abilities? What was the point of being a lion if he couldn’t commune with others of his kind? Hmph. “That’s a shame, I was looking forward to that,” Damien shook his head, unconcerned with the look passing from Nemo and Zander. “Are you?” Oh cool, another dude his age, there seemed to be a surplus. Once again, Damien was considering his newfound lack of individuality, it didn’t help matters that Nemo looked quite a bit like him, except a handsomer version, but still.

“It seems like it… I’ve already met four or five dudes in our year…. For reals? That’d be pretty cool, I’ only ever had one roommate at Salem.” Damien said, grinning at the thought. Zander seemed like a chill enough dude, Damien wouldn’t mind sharing a room with him, as long as he didn’t own any snakes or anything….

“Oh, sorry, man. I mean, uh…. Sir Nicholas.” Damien amended. He really would have to watch the whole casual addressing thing, He doubted people would like it, eh, whatever. He laughed at the Ghost’s words, his eyes turning toward the ceiling as Sir Nicholas spoke. “I was referring to yourself, but that works too… The ceiling’s enchanted, yeah? It’s an impressive bit of magic… “ Damien added, watching the stars twinkling prettily above him.

OH SHIZ. FOOD.

Without a second thought, Damien began piling it onto his plate, grabbing whatever was in reach without even a though as to what it might be. He was just. so. very. hungry.

Default Noel ♡♡ Zander. *snort*

Silas looked up and gave Noel a small smile and a wave. He was amazingly good looking. Like whoa. Archie wouls NOT appreciate Silas' thinking of that, so he made a mental note never to mention it. Or to stare. Like he was doing at the moment. His cheeks flared beetroot red and he lowered his eyes. Heh. Ridiculous.

"I was starving! The food's great. Wanna sit with us?" He totally didn't mind. Just so long as there was room for Archie in case he wandered over.

While Silas had been staring at Noel apparently Zander had been speaking to him. Oh. Well. Sorry. Turning his gaze toward him he quirked a brow. "Uh huh. Fact still stands that technically it is very unsanitary to spit in one's hand near the food we all share." Facts were facts that could not be argued. Mhm. Perhaps it was The Spitting Prefect's personal opinion that one could not seal a deal sans spit, but Silas had it on good authority there were other ways. "Why not make the Unbreakable Vow? " Less saliva, more drama... definitely BINDING. I mean... come on.

Bianca beamed at Lux.

"Oops, didn't see you there." Had she known would she have lowered her voice? Probably not. Bianca wasn't one to discriminate against her peers and do favoritism. Except towards the ones she liked. "Hey Lux, whatchu doing here?"

Y'know... other than her being friends with everyone at this table and oh HEY THURR C-Squared.

"C-SQUAAAREEED!" Bianca exclaimed, probably damaging some eardrums in the process. She wiggled her fingers and smirked. "I don't need to watch anything. The world needs to watch out for me."

TRUTH.

But she was psyched for the whole Pride pictures. She didn't even consider the possibility that the rock wouldn't be there anymore because where in the world would a rock travel to? It wasn't able to float off like the ghost in front of her. She grinned at the house ghost.

Would he show up in the camera? Hopefully. If not she'd have to ask someone. "Bro, I'll do whatever I can to make sure you show up in that picture." Yes, Sir Nicholas, Bianca Evelyn Caruso had just called you bro.

Out of the corner of her eye, she then saw a Hufflepuff approaching and flipped her hair and looked away. Noel Wallace. Hmph. What was he doing here anyways?

“Oh, I didn’t mean to offend you…” she sighed and gave Amur a little half smile. “I’m Puck, Zander’s friend and co-prefect…I just, was telling him good job because you know he’s probably a bit nervous like I am.” Really she was.

Puck chuckled, “of course I think so I mean…I wouldn’t know what its like to be a first year here” she admitted and bit her lip.

It should be viewed as a privilege, no? Oh well... he was keeping his eyes and ears open where these two were concerned.

Amur's emotions and expressions were much like she was riding a roller-coaster in the next few, short minutes. Her displeasure at the potentially directed words briefly spiked to a bubbling excitement capped with a wide grin at Zander's acceptance, admittance or whatever it was that she could go with him to the staff. She was about to thank him, even though she had requested it, simply because it was polite, when both Prefects looked at her.

It wasn't a harsh look, but it wasn't exactly kind either. Not kind in the way that it made Amur squirm. Made her wriggle slightly in her seat without knowing where to put her eyes as they got bigger and bigger with each word. It was the not kind in the way that she could see she had disappointed them, or worse, hurt them. Their words explained it all. She shifted on the suddenly hard wooden bench, feeling very much her age and very much smaller than them.

It reminded her of when her parents, or grandparents, would have talkings to her and often her and her cousin. They said things that at first seemed one way, and then ironed out another. Her mouth twisted even as her eyes widened. Why couldn't adults, and miniature adults just say what they meant? It got confusing otherwise and ended up in misunderstandings like this. Why couldn't they have just said; 'Your doing good.' 'Really? thanks, cause I was worried.'

See? Simple. Short. Sweet. No room for misunderstandings.

Peeking over at Zander and then up at Prefect Puck, as she had introduced herself and who would now be known as PP to Amur's mind, she considered their faces. It wouldn't do well to tell them that though, would it? Adults and miniature adults didn't like it when kids brought up points like that. What was it her father had called her and her cousin after one such incident? Right. Smart-aleks.

Her mouth pressed into a slant. Finally, a small smile peeped forth. She forced it a little bit bigger and a little bit brighter, hoping that the delivery of the words she had decided upon would be enough to clear up the whole misunderstanding. "I get it."

Yup. Three simple words. She got it. Now. Not then, but now. And that was the important part. It was like an apology, but not, given she couldn't really justify apologizing for what she had said. She had meant it and still thought it held: she wasn't a job and she wasn't to be 'handled', regardless of if that was their meaning or not. Still, she wouldn't hold it against them, and her smile said as much.

To that smile Amur added in a bob of her head to Prefect Puck, as she had done for Zander, narrowly missing bonking her forehead off of her plate. "I'm Amur Neverwinter." Nice to meet you? It hadn't been at first, but now... "Pleased to meet your acquaintance."

Amur wasn't entirely sure what it meant, but she had heard it used in similar situations before on old muggle television and it seemed like a pretty sentence that always made the actors and actresses smile, so it seemed like a good pick. She was equally unsure of what the two Prefects meant when they kept hinting that first year was like kicking a bear's butt. It seemed like first year should be the most exciting, the first breath on a long sprint, the first glint of sun off cold snow and all those firsts. Firsts were usually good, were they not?

She was about to press into the matter further, when Mr. Pink Shoes exclaimed disgust beside her. No sooner had she turned to blink wide eyes at him, than he was handing her a bread roll. She blinked at him, at the bread roll, at his shoes and then her growling stomach. Well, never in a million of Merlin's beard hairs would she have imagined that this kid would hand her a bun, so the food had to be real. Her stomach growled again.

"Uh...thanks." Maybe? She took the bun, turned away, glanced back and repeated the looks twice more before plopping the bread on her plate and staring at it. Perhaps the comment hadn't been directed at her, but it had sure been in her ear. A glance at PP reminded her that maybe it was best to let this one go.

Her attention was caught by Zander. His concern washed away the edge of the boy's outburst and made her smile. Especially his mention of Tippin. The house elf had wanted her to eat, or at least not to go hungry. He had brought her that glass of milk after all. What she didn't miss however, was the look in Zander's eye as she took the bun. Of course it looked like the strangest thing in the world, asking from one person then declining then accepting from a completely different one. It probably looked insane.

For a moment, Amur worked her thoughts around in her mouth, wondering if she would sound weirder than she looked. Her thoughts weren't allowed completion however, as Zander and the boy had a slight row about the spit-promise. All thoughts of food temporary were placed on hold as she looked from one boy to the other and back again. Zander, he got it he did. Spit promises were the only way to seal a deal and she gave him an affirmative nod as such. The other kid, Mr. Pink Shoes, well he didn't. Amur surmised that he must have grown up with sisters, and not brothers, to think it was gross. A lot of sisters. At least ten.

It was understandable then, that he didn't get it. When he mentioned the Unbreakable Vow's, Amur's mouth crinkled in displeasure. She was going to have to break it down further for him. Thankfully, she had two male cousins that had done the same for her. Time to pass on the knowledge.

"It's only gross if you have germs. If you are sick, that is. I'm not sick. Zander's not sick." Even though he didn't do his own spit-seal, she would let it go. "So really, there's no harm that can be done. An Unbreakable Vow, however..." A long hnnn left her throat as she eyed Mr. Pink Shoes. "That's pretty heavy. Especially to do it for every promise. You'd have a lot of people dying. Dropping. Dead. Left, right and center." Yup. "Promises are made a lot and broken more. Sometimes they have to be broken, sometimes what seemed like a good promise turns out not to be so good. Then what? Then how will you get out of it?" Another throaty noise. "A spit-deal is a happy medium. It's more than a simple shake, because well, your sharing your spit." Pretty simple. "It tells you if the other person means it: if they pull their hand away, they won't follow through. If they don't, then they are resolute. But it's not as final as an Unbreakable Vow. No one has to die." She considered him for a moment before a small smile came through. "But if you feel confident enough in proclaiming an Unbreakable Vow for a promise, that's your call. I get it. It really seals the deal."

And he hadn't grown up with brothers. Sisters. Sisters who liked drama.

Speaking of drama, she glanced from her bun still on her plate and up to Zander. She owed him an explanation, especially after he stuck up for her. Shifting a little bit closer to him, she tried to lean up to whisper in his ear; she didn't want anyone else hearing. When she found that she couldn't match the height of his shoulder, she reached up and gently tugged on his sleeve to try and get him to lean down some.

"I....I took the bun from him because I couldn't have imagined that he would give me one." She blinked, realizing how strange the words sounded out in the open. She shook her head, trying again. "When we got here, after I got sorted I was so hungry I...uh....I-imagined-the-table-was-already-full-of-food-I-was-so-hungry-and-I-believed-my-imagination-so-much-that-I-forgot-I-had-stashed-a-cookie-in-my-sleeve-from-the-train-for-later-and-so-when-it-rolled-out-onto-my-plate-I-didn't-notice-and-I-swear-I-had-taken-it-from-a-food-tray-that-wasn't-actually-there-and-I-was-about-to-eat-it-when-Tippin-came-and-took-it-from-me-asking-where-I-had-got-it-and-then-I-realized-I-hadn't-actually-seen-food-but-imagined-the-whole-thing-and-I-was-afraid-that-the-food-that-appeared-now-was-part-of-my-imagination-again-so-I-asked-you-to-pass-a-bun-thinking-that-if-you-touched-it-that-would-prove-it-was-real-but-then-I-realized-that-I-could-imagine-you-doing-that-so-that-wouldn't-tell-me-if-it-was-real-or-not-so-when-Mr. Pink-Shoes-passed-me-the-bun-it-was-something-I-hadn't-imagined-so-I-took-it-because-now-I-know-it's-real."

The train-wreck of words out of her mouth ended with a gasp and the widest eyes ever. It was out, out in the air and she couldn't take it back. And she had spoken too fast to try and cover his ears before the words could float to them. She reddened under her testimony, her voice squeaking out. "I'll take the one you offered if it makes you feel better."
