Dervish and Banges is a small, dusky little outlet located at the end of the street in Hogsmeade. Squatting between a few wooden pillars painted to look like marble, the green and gold building seems to be more of a remodeled mausoleum than a Wizarding place of business. As you enter the hideous, peeling green door and inhale the thick scent of sawdust and mildew, you'll likely question whether or not the shop actually was a mausoleum at some point.
Squeaky floorboards, musty smells, and creepy feelings aside, the place may appear to be in an eternal state of decay, but the sagging shelves stocked full of shiny, brand or like-new knickknacks say otherwise. The shop sells both new and reconditioned items of both the Wizard and Muggle variety, such as...
Do-It-Yourself Cauldron Repair Kits (or for a fee, D&B will do it for you!)
Take your time, walk around, pick up one of the coupons off the back counter, and try to not be intimidated by that looming shopkeeper just behind it at the back. He doesn't talk much, but he's got it where it counts, kid. Oh, and don't steal anything. Roundhouse kicks to the face are not fun....for you.

Jet had come to Hogsmeade with one thing in mind. The reason for that was why she was standing outside Dervish and Banges, a shop she had never entered before, simply looking through their display windows.
After observing the very odd things they had displayed there, the 13 year-old had her eyes fixed upon the DIY Cauldron Repair Kits as she wondered how good they actually were.
Brynn had a little money saved from Christmas and she knew just what she wanted to spend it on. As much fun as she had at the Catapults game with Bart while they were on holiday, she knew that it would have been even better if she had a pair of omnioculars. Since he had ties with the team, she thought she might be able to go again and that time she would be prepared, because she knew exactly where to find them.
She spotted them last time she was at Dervish and Banges, and had heard that they had used things there for a little cheaper as well. That might be a better option for her as funds were a little limited. Of course the last time she was there, there were also a couple of jerks there as well, so hopefully that wouldn't be the case today
Walking up towards the shop, she noticed another girl hanging out in front, looking through the windows. Brynn turned her brown eyes on her for a moment and slowed her steps as she approached. "Is the door locked?" Maybe the shop wasn't open yet, which would be rather disappointing.. figuring if the girl was just looking, she would have already gone in. It was easier to see things up close rather than through a dusty window.

It was cold, like freezing cold. This fifth year was from the South, Alabama to be exact and winter wasn't something that she really liked at all. The snow was pretty but the coldness and darkness wasn't something that was her favorite. She had chose the wrong day to get all dressed up or wrong season.
Shivering, she was shivering. It was time to go inside or back up to the castle.Emmylou ran to the closest shop to warm up. The Gryffindor pushed her hair behind her ears. She caught her breath a little bit. The cold air just made her have to catch her breath. When could this coldness end? This was all that she was about right now.

Well it definitely wasn't the paintwork that attracted Amur to the shop. Actually, she had almost convinced herself not to go inside, given the exuding creepiness. It was less fun without a partner, exploring places like this, and more likely that she would find trouble doing it solo. But it was the reminder that she was a Gryffindor, and one of the qualities was courage.
Even though she felt like she had less than zero, Amur summoned up what she could and pushed into the shop. Much to her surprise, the first thing she came across wasn't some horrible old skeleton, but a young girl dressed rather pretty for the place, and the weather. A young girl that Amur almost ran into, given she had taken up occupancy in the front entrance.
Redirecting her feet, Amur stumbled to a stop beside the girl. And then she saw what she expected. It was weird in here. And possibly full of adventures. A whistle left her.
"I bet there are all sorts of interesting nick-nacks in here." Her eyes went to the girl beside her. "Though, if you're looking for a warmer coat," cause she looked pretty cold, "I think the clothing shop was back up the street that way?" She pointed over her shoulder and to the right.

"But there was something specific I had in mind, so hopefully it's good." It had to be right? Or they probably wouldn't be able to stay in business. And she didn't know about trustworthy, so she shrugged a bit. "Probably.. the owner seems a little rough around the edges, but he's actually pretty nice." At least that had been her experience last time when she had some issues.
Anyway, she wanted to check out those omniocuars so.. "Going in?" Brynn glanced at the girl before opening the door and holding it for her to grab herself as polite people did.

Saul knew just when the kiddies from the school down yonder would be making his way into his shop. He had it circled on his calendar, just like he did every weekend they were due to pour into the streets of Hogsmeade. He had to mentally prepare himself for the younguns as he was more accustomed to dealing with adults who knew just what they were looking for. Though it did increase his sales slightly when the children came to town with their galleons just burning a hole in their pockets.
It was just too bad that they tended to go to the joke shop and the sweets store in favor of buying his wares.
But his shop served a real purpose, one that just the right students were often happy to find. And here were some now. He nodded to the young ladies that walked in and his eyes soon fell on a couple more girls hanging out outside his window. Hm. Where they coming in to buy something or what? He didn't like loiterers. But they were soon well on their way in and he gave them a nod as well before heading over to the first two (Emmylou and Amur).
"Anything, I can help you two ladies with?" he asked in his drawl. See, he could be friendly.

Oh, there was the owner. She returned the nod he gave her and watched him interact with the other two people in the shop.

Needing to get away from the cold for a little bit, Lux found herself in a random shop that looked like a dump. She had never been here before, but it was warm and seemed to be full of interesting objects which was always nice for someone who was curious like her.
Making her way along the sagging shelves she scrunched her nose at the smell of mildew. Some of the objects were pretty neat though, like the Omnioculars. Picking a pair up, she examined them before putting them up to her face and trying out the different settings. She could still remember them from one of the History of Magic lessons last term.

It wasn't that the shop didn't contain good products, just that the vibe was a little strange and she hardly enjoyed the smell of mildew. It was simply unfortunate that the shop was the only place that she knew of that stocked the product she wanted. While Anastasia had done all her gift shopping before Christmas Katya had expressed that she wanted a time turner, one like Stasya had bought for herself when she was still a student at Hogwarts. Seeing as how she was a good older sister she was now braving the shops on a Hogsmeade weekend to grab one for Katya. She would so bring this up later if Ekaterina ever tried to say that Stasya didn't do anything for her.
With their parents getting a divorce though Anastasia couldn't help but think that Ekaterina and Vasily could both use a nice gift. Timeturner in hand she was wandering around the rest of the shop trying to figure out what her little brother would like. Maybe some omnioculars? As she looked at a few different pairs Stasya couldn't help but notice a girl actually trying them in the store, and just had to laugh softly at the sight she made. Maybe not omnioculars for Vasily then, since it looked a little ridiculous.

Brynn nodded as she headed inside. "Yeah, last year.." She had met him, well in a way, and he seemed kind under his gruff exterior. At least to her as he almost came to her defense. And there he was. She noticed Mr. Shopkeeper, whatever his name was, when they walked in and gave him a small smile as he nodded in their direction. Not a wave though because she didn't really know him that well - or even know his name.
She was a little curious as to what the girl was looking to buy today and she seemed to be sticking close to her anyway which was just fine with the redhead. She seemed friendly enough and she liked nice people. She also kept an eye out for the omnioculars. Had they gotten moved from last year?
"Oh, hi," Brynn smiled a ittle bigger as Jet introduced herself. She thought she might have seen her in class but she wasn't really sure. "I'm Brynn." She took a sweeping glance around to look for the omnioculars again. "So what were you looking for?" It seemed like she had something in mind anyway.

Emmylou blew hot air from her mouth on to her black gloves. It was helping but not that much. You would think that she would be used to the cold by now. As much as she loved the castle she really hated being locked up in it in the winter. Emmylou is an outdoor person so she can't really stay inside that long. No matter the temperature.
The blonde fifth year looked around the shop. If she wasn't so cold this would be a really neat place to look but her mind was wandering and thinking about how cold she was. She sigh quietly and jumped a little bit when she heard a voice. Her dark blue eyes met a girl that was talking to her. "I bet there are." her voice was cheery and of course a Southern accent, Alabama to be exact. nick-nacks! That's what was here. Now that she was living with her Aunt Raeanne and Uncle Cam she was able to buy some things for her new bedroom. "My coat is thick and warm it's just I'm still not used to the cold." The Gryffindor lioness shrugged. "I'm Emmylou."

Just not used to the cold? Amur eyed the girl, trying to place where she might have come from, but her skill with accents was about as sharp as her skill with driving a car. Poor, very poor. Still, that made for an understandable statement.
"Nice to meet you Emmylou. I'm Amur Neverwinter." She nodded to her new aquaintance-friend, glad she hadn't noticed the near run-in. "Maybe they have something in here that could help with the cold?" A really warm scarf, or some magical pendant that kept someone warm all the time? Wouldn't that be wonderful!?
Amur grinned at the girl, glad to have a mission of sorts.
And then they were approached by a man. A man that made Amur's eyes go wide. He looked like part of the shop. Like one of the many things in the small space come to life. Had somebody animated him? And his hat? It was beautiful!
Despite feeling like she should be slightly wary or afraid, Amur felt the familiar prick of an adventure just begun. She grinned at the man. "I really like your hat. Do you have any more like it?" And and and. "Do you have anything that helps keep someone warm, like a necklace or a scarf or something? For people not used to cold? Or who are always cold? Or just cold?"
And what else did he have in his shop. It was sooooo interesting.

She supposed the shop could be more scruffy and, she had to admit, her father got some really interesting things from dodgy-looking places sometimes.
As the Ravenlcaw looked around for whatever it was she was looking for, Jet did the same, but instead of trying to spot what she wanted, she was still examining a fw other things. The blonde's brown eyes fell upon the really loud Hufflepuff and she couldn't help ut watch her for a few moments.
Brynn. "Interesting name." Jet gave the girl a small smile. "Nice to meet you." She added. Jet had her share of questioning so she didn't mind when the Ravenclaw asked her own. The fifth year heard a voice and looked towards the person talking. Was he the shop owner? Hmmm. The blonde Gryffindor looked at him. He really looked like a shop owner. So he had to be! Emmylou smiled at the shop owner. "No thank you. I'm just warming up and look around." The fifteen year old said politely.
Just warming up and looking around? Well, Saul could agree that it was rather cold out there and wouldn't mind the young lady taking a moment to warm up, but he'd prefer people buy something rather than just hanging out in here. As long as she wasn't causing trouble, he supposed. "Alrigh'," he gave her a slight nod. "The Goblets of Fire replicas are on sale, just ter let yer know." Maybe looking around would give her the opportunity to find something she was interested in after all.

Despite feeling like she should be slightly wary or afraid, Amur felt the familiar prick of an adventure just begun. She grinned at the man. "I really like your hat. Do you have any more like it?" And what else did he have in his shop. It was sooooo interesting.
Blink. My, this little lass was mighty talkative. And Saul just stood there looking at her as she chattered on, waiting for her to stop talking. "Thank you, Miss," he said in his gruff voice, tipping his hat slightly to her. "No, I don't. This isn't a clothing store." She could see that, right? Of course, she could always try Gladrags, but he wasn't about to send a possibly paying customer away. Maybe she'd find something here that she'd like while she looked around anyway. "There are quite a few things of interest here, though. And some are on sale. Take a look around." That was a suggestion, but there was something for everyone here.
So this girl had met the shopkeeper but not bought anything from him. Jet couldn't help but wonder the reason why, but decided not to ask for now. Instead, she looked at the man himself for a little longer and watched as he talked to the other customers.
She supposed the shop could be more scruffy and, she had to admit, her father got some really interesting things from dodgy-looking places sometimes.
As the Ravenlcaw looked around for whatever it was she was looking for, Jet did the same, but instead of trying to spot what she wanted, she was still examining a fw other things. The blonde's brown eyes fell upon the really loud Hufflepuff and she couldn't help ut watch her for a few moments.
Brynn. "Interesting name." Jet gave the girl a small smile. "Nice to meet you." She added. Jet had her share of questioning so she didn't mind when the Ravenclaw asked her own. "A Cauldron Repair Kit." She replied, glancing around again and at the shopkeeper. She wondered if the ones sold there were good. "You?"
Brynn walked with Jet through the store, keeping her eye out for those omnioculars. She figured she should test out the new ones and the used ones, because if the cheaper ones were just as good, she'd probably get that. But first she had to find them. Maybe she should ask the shopkeeper.
Brown eyes quickly located him, helping a couple other girls. She thought about approaching him but turned back to Jet first. "Thanks," she smiled, though after a second's thought she wasn't sure if that was really a compliment. Interesting didn't always mean good. Besides, Jet was an interesting name. Brynn was a pretty name. She didn't think on it long though because she was more interested in what she wanted to buy - a cauldron repair kit. "That sounds useful." She wasn't that into potions though.
"I'm looking for omnioculars. I went to an awesome Quidditch match over break and it would have been even better with a pair of those." She looked around a bit, still not finding them. "Maybe we should ask.." Brynn stepped a little closer to the shopkeeper and cleared her throat. "Excuse me.. could you help us with something?" He could probably tell Jet about the cauldron repair kit too because she didn't immediately see that either.
