Marigold had found what had to be THE MOST PERFECT place to study. She had been sitting in the empty office for about forty minutes at least with her Arithmancy notes from last term and an open textbook, practicing computations. Now, though, she had finished what she needed to study in her study plan she had scribbled in her planner. She was doodling a picture of her cat, who was busy snoozing on the rug in front of her feet.

She had gotten the tail all wrong.

"THERE you ARE. MERLIN'S BUTT HAIR you are one hard Puffy Prefect to FIND." Zahra trudged in, threw herself on the floor, and lifted her POOR ACHING FEET.

".....are you already studying? Ugh." No. Zahra couldn't handle that.

Marigold looked up from her doodle of Nibbles, of which she had added a monocle and top hat. "Hey," she said in greeting, before shaking her head. "Not really. Just reviewing so I can actually take OWLs without dying. Right now I'm drawing Nibbles."

At the sound of her kitty's name, the aforementioned cat queen raised her head sleepily, and Marigold beamed at her pet.

"Hey Cat," Zahra greeted Kitty from her prone position. She tried to poke the kitty with her toe. "....you're what? No. It's not even... no. I demand you stop being a Ravenclaw this instance."

Marigold smiled as her kitty promptly rolled on her back for pets when Z poked her. She crouched down and patted Nibbles on the tummy. "Okay. I've studied enough. I can be a Hufflepuff/Gryffindor/Slytherin for the next-" She checked her watch, "…long time."

But studying wasn't a baaaad thing, was it? She was just trying to impress her parents. And impress Cela too, if she was entirely honest.

Zahra yawned and threw an arm over her eyes. Maybe it was actually nap time? "You couldn't be Slytherin if your life depended on it. We'll save that for Ruby." Zahra yawned again.

GOOD THING she couldn't hear that CELA comment or Z might have laaaaaughed. Cela was cool and all but she was also a borderline crazy person that needed to send Zahra MORE COOL THINGS and less books.

Marigold blinked as Z yawned. It wasn't thaaat late, was it? Oop, no, she was pretty tired too. She needed a yawn, but since Z did that first she couldn't because she didn't want Z to think she was copying her or anything. Merlin.

"True. And I wouldn't want to be, anyway. Ruby takes care of that for me." Just like Z took care of the Gryffindor part. As for Ravenclaw?

…well, Z was complaining about Ravenclaws. She was a bit scared of them, anyway.

"I kind of figured she'd go into Slytherin," Zahra rubbed her belly over her school uniform shirt. "....but I had kind of hoped she'd be in Gryffindor with me." You know? Sharing a dorm and all and replacing Mikey. Yeah.

Marigold had figured that Ruby would go to Slytherin, but of course she had hoped for a millisecond that maaaaybe she would have her in Hufflepuff with her? Like that would happen. Ever. She had even thought Gryffindor was a better fit for Ruby that Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw.

Though, she had allowed herself a tiny bit of relief that she wasn't in Gryffindor. Because Ruby and Z were closer anyway, and she would feel really left out. So she just stayed quiet and chewed absentmindedly on her quill.

"We'll just have to spend all the time outside of sleeping with her, yeah?" We.

The floor was getting kind of cold under Zahra's butt, but she was not feeling motivated enough to get up. "You mean all the time outside of sleeping and her BOY time. And your studying and Prefecting." And Zahra's... uhm.... yeah, nothinging. She was a pathetic lost lump lately. Meh.

Marigold picked Nibbles up off the floor and put her on her lap, then started idly stroking her cat's fur. She gave a half shrug. "Yeah, I guess. And when she's not in detention." SADFACE. Ruby didn't need to be in detention forever, sigh. It wasn't like she would learn her lesson anyway. "My studying and stuff doesn't take that long. I'll always have time for you and Ruby." Because Z looked sad, and she didn't like that. She continued petting Nibbles.

Zahra had seriously been considering getting herself landed in detention, too. Two months was a ridiculous, long stupid amount of time. Ruby would get lonely and Zahra already was - so excuse her Ravenclaw moment, but it made SENSE.

"It's really stupid that she got detention for that long. Bellaire is the worst. Like, what does that even do? Bellaire is like the dumbest teacher ever if she thinks Ruby will learn anything from THAT. I think Bellaire is just SUPER bored and jealous of Ruby's fashion. We should... well... I guess I should," cause of Prefect reasons, "get revenge for Ruby."

Marigold bit her lip and let Z rant because it was unfair, in her opinion, and she felt really bad for Ruby. "Yeah. It is a long time for something that... isn't that bad. At all." She knew people that hadn't gotten detention for something twice as bad. Unfair. She let Nibbles settle into a different position, then nodded slightly. "Just.. y'know.. be careful. I don't want you in detention for a million years too." Then she would be alll aloneeee.

Zahra shrugged... not seeming to care, but she cast her eyes upwards towards Marigold. BE CAREFUL? For what. For what reason? This whole school felt like detention without Mikey.

"Yeah I guess. My parents would hate it too," not that Zahra felt a whole lot about what they felt lately. They didn't care how SHE felt so... whatevs.

Zahra finally rolled to her feet and wandered around the room.

Marigold immediately regretted saying that. Not that she didn't care if Zahra got put into detention, but why was she acting like she actually had anything on Z? She couldn't influence Z's actions or anything, even if she was trying to help. Slightly mellowed by this inner-talk-to-herself, she lowered her eyes and patted Nibbles a bit more. She heard Zahra get up, but she didn't look up for a while, until she voiced a simple question just to get off the topic. "So.. euh, are you…scared for OWLs or anything?"

Merlin, she was bad at this.

Having learned of all that was entailed in the care and keeping of fairies, Ben and Adi had made the decision to work together on it. Double the pairs of eyes...and hands and feet for that matter...to keep track of the creatures they were looking after. Especially with the cheeky fairy that existed within his glass jar. That might just prove to be a challenge to at least be aware and cautious of.

After the plan had been laid down, they needed a mutual place to work together. Upon some exploring, Benny had been reminded of a spare room up on the third floor and proposed it, much to his best friend's agreement. So they had arranged to meet there one afternoon when they were free from classes and any other limits. For once, the Gryffindor was the first to arrive it seemed, but it did make sense given he was technically closer. So he settled down in as seated place in the corner to await the Hufflepuff.

Adi was cheerfully making his way to that spare office where he was to meet the guy bestie to get the Care of Magical creatures homework started. All the while he was heading to that office, he kept interacting with his fairies. Sort of. At least he kept talking random stuff and the fairies seemed to be listening. At least they would pause and it seemed as if they would be listening. The first day he had gotten them, they wouldn't even give Adi a second of their time. That hadn't bothered him though and he kept trying until just a few hours ago, he noticed they seemed to be turning their attention to him, ever since Gus the toady became acquainted with them. Maybe Gus had convinced them that Adi meant no harm. Right now his awesome toad friend was perched on his left shoulder, occasionally emitting croaks.

"I'm heading to meet one of my best friends,'' Adi was saying to the fairies as he pushed the door to the office. "He's got two fairies too. I bet you guys would love some company. But one of them is a tad bit mischievous so you'll have to keep an eye on her.'' Cheeky. That's what Adi had named her. Speaking of which. He needed to given these two one each.

The fourth year stepped into the office and immediately spotted his friend. "Heya, Benny. How's it going? I was just telling these little fellows about you. Guys, this is Benny. He's a fourth year like me but he's a Gryffindor.'' Yep. Nothing unusual here. Adi talked to Magical Creatures alllll the time.

Benny had set the jar down with his two fairies on the floor in front of him as he waited. The troublesome one of the duo as turned away ignoring him yet the other seemed friendly enough with him. As long as Conrad wasn't nearby since he had scared them both coming to deliever a letter from his parents. He had to admit, he hadn't been quite sure how to interact with them since the class and wondered if Adi had any better luck.

He didn't have to wonder real long though seeing as the door soon opened to reveal his best friend, the Hufflepuff already talking...but not to him. It seemed Adi had already gotten the hang of speaking and dealing with his fairies like they were just new aquintances. "Its going...okay," Ben answered as attention was turned to him. And that was before Adi's fairies and he were introduced.

"Um...hi," he said tentatively. At ease Benny, he scolded himself. Act like you do around Conrad and Gus. Speaking of which..."Hi Gus," he greeted the toad on Adi's shoulder with a touch more certainty. That was a better way to do it for sure. "I'm sorry...for stunning you," Ben decided to add when he glanced back to the fairies in his best friend's jar.

"And um...you might know these two," he said, motioning to the two fairies with him. They would have been in the same grove before the class so it was likely that they had come across one another in their flight around the area. Not that he was absolutely sure of that.

Adi noted his fairies shift their attention to Benny. They seem to regard him as cautiously as they had Adi hours before. Perhaps they recognised Benny as the boy who stunned them. "He wouldn't hurt you,'' Adi said, quickly assuring the creatures. "We couldn't help it. See, you guys are lightning fast and it was the only way we could catch you without hurting you.'' Because the jar's rim could have ended up hitting them or something if the boys tried to catch them like the Professor had. There was no way that technique was as easy as it looked. Oh yesh. Guster. Adi had almost forgotten about the toad who was now silent. Though he did give a big, throaty croak in greeting to Benny. "He's probably wondering where Conrad is.'' The Puffer set his toady down on the floor. "Don't hop off too far.''

Now, Adi placed his jar next to Benny's. His to immediately fluttered a bit, making high pitched buzzing noises. Excited or maybe happy to see Benny's two. "It does look like they know each other,'' he mused. "Are you going to name yours, Dragon? I want to name mine but I'm not too sure what's suitable.'' He could tell them apart though. One was shorter than the other; the shorter one having transparent wings while the taller one had lightly multi- coloured wings.

"I think I'm going to let them out,'' Adi said to Benny. "Could you help me out if they try to escape?'' You know, by stunning them? He leaned closer to his jar. "Hey, guys. I'm going to let you out. No flying away, please.'' In return the pixies just staaaared at him. Adi could not tell if that meant they would behave or not. Best see what they did, yeah? He removed the lid.

Oh they certainly responded to him and he couldn't help feel a little guilty regardless of his appology. The weren't exactly like the troublesome pixies to need such treatment other than for an assignment like this one but what Adi said was true, the immobulus spell was likely the most humane. Especially compared to some of the actions of the other students. "Likely up in the owlery. Can't have him and the fairies together." That had been an awkward scene and likely the only time his fairies had been thankful for their enclosure as protection from the owl.

Benny watches as his friend set down his own fairies, both duos reacted to each other. His troublemaker even finally turned away from her 'corner' to respond to the presence of the other two. "It would seem so," he agreed with a nod as they watched them for a little while. At the naming question he shrugged. "I don't know," the Gryffindor answered truthfully," wouldn't want to insult them with the wrong nickname." And it wasn't like he couldn't tell his two apart, the one being very brash and the other more subtle and friendly and that was only the personality. Their appearance had differences too. The cheeky one was definitely smaller than their companion, who in turn had a bluish tinge in comparison to the yellowish coloring of the other one.

Was it safe to let them be free for a while?

The fourth year looked at the door to see it closed back in place and the windows weren't open as far as he could see. So that made their two plans of escape relatively closed off. "Yes please..." he echoed the request of his friend as he gave in himself and moved to tentatively open the lif which got both his pixies attention. "If you stay then we wont need to try and catch you again. No spells." Hopefully that would encourage them to play nice. It was only for a week after all and best if they worked together, human and fairy, for mutual benefit.

Adi nodded. That was true. Some creatures just weren't meant to mix. Except owls and toads. No, wait...didn't birds eat frogs and toads? That meant Conrad could eat Gus. Nah. The two were just as close buddies as Adi and Benny were.

The Puffer considered what Benny said about names for a moment. "You know, I agree with you there. They probably have their own names already anyway.'' Too bad the fairies couldn't speak otherwise they could have told the boys their names. So Adi had now made up his mind. He would not give them any names. Though he had already named one of Benny's Cheeky. LOL.

The lid from the jar was cautiously removed from the jar. The captured fairies shot right out in an instant, both shooting in opposite directions of the room. Thank goodness the door and windows were closed but that didn't mean there were crevices around through which the tiny fairies could escape. "Oi! You guys! Come back! We know you want to be free but we wouldn't hurt you. Or make you be ornaments.''

Adi had his wand clutched in his hand just in case the fairies remained stubborn. He could see the shorter of the two pause, now hovering and studying the boy as if he were being scrutinized. The other one continued to zoom about no doubt looking for a means of escape.

"Come on,'' Adi coaxed the hovering fairy. It hovered for a full minute before sloooowly flitting to him. It hovered in his face at close range before suddenly flying upward. The next thing Adi felt was something landing gently among his hair. There was a fairy on his head! How cool!

The other one which had now ceased looking for an escape route and was now regarding its companion. The Hufflepuff heard that now familiar high pitched buzzing sound coming from atop his head. The taller fairy flitted somewhat closer to him. More buzzing. Closer came the fairy...until it settled on his right shoulder.

It was agreed which meant Ben supposed they would talk to them in generalizations. He too wondered what they might have been considered in their little fairy grove but despite being human-like, they couldn't talk back to them to they would know either way. Just like about every other creature they spent any amount of time with. Well with the exception of Gus the toad and Conrad the owl seeing as both familiars had their own way of talking to him and Adi along the way.

The Hufflepuff's jar opened first and the fairies fled making Benny hesitant to move his own lid the final time but he had said he'd let them free. No backing down on promises on his end. So the jar was finally loosed and his own fairies were equally quick to move away. Especially 'Cheeky,' the fairy in question jetting off to the disused fireplace and chosing to perch on the stone mantel for the time being. "Can't we be friends?"

Adi's two at least seemed to find interest in his friend, the one finally landing interested on the Hufflepuff's head and hair causing Benny to chuckle. Yep they liked him. "What's not to like?" he mused before looking back to try and find his own duo. The one on the fireplace mantel was eying him upset but the other was hovering halfway in between him and his companion.

"I won't hurt you...I promise," he tried to assure the creature. The fairy tentatively moving closer in response. Ben slowly raised both his hands to his chest height with palms up and open. "See...no wand." He'd give it a shot for now, a benefit of having another person in the room. The wand might not be needed in the long run. The Gryffindor wasn't quite sure what reaction he might get but in the end, the more friendly fairy flittered closer before handing on his open hands.

"Hi..." he said with a smile, feeling just a little silly.

Adi became aware that Benny had also let his fairies out but he was a little busy with his own at that moment and didn't pay attention until a few minutes later. "Good question,'' he replied with a grin. Everyone seemed to like him. Magical creatures being no exception.

With one fairy on his shoulder and one in his hair, Adi watched as one fairy landed on Benny's hand. Cheeky was obviously going to be a less lot trusting. The friendlier of his two fairies chose to join the others at the cover of food that Adi had set up but his other was remaining stubborn. Well Benny wasn't going to have him or her starve because of her behavior. Taking the lid from his friend, he cleaned it with a quick "Scourgify," and retrieved his own bottle of food. The fourth year shaking some into it before walking slowly over to the mantle. The fairy reacted, taking off in flight yet just hovering around as she noticed what he had in his hand. It was as if curiosity kept it from getting too far away for now.

"You can have some," he said as he finished his way to the fireplace. "I'll just leave this here," the Gryffindor told the fairy, setting the lid on the mantle and slowly stepping away, watching to see if she would. As a last resort he turned away to return to where his jar still rested, glancing discretely back only to see Cheeky had landed again and was tentatively exploring the food.

Chalk up that change!
