A polished oak desk contraption sits in the centre of the library. A few low shelves contain books that have been returned or books that are on hold. You can also loan books from the library’s vast collection of books here or objects like crystal balls, telescopes, and a few odd items. Behind the desk, sitting upon a dark cushioned stool, is the librarian, his head bent over some old rolls of parchment or a book.
As you approach, Mister Kitridge looks up and greets you with a friendly and warm smile. "Good day. How may I help you?" He is eager to assistant anyone who visit the library; whether it would be in retrieving a particular book, giving recommendations, sharing a story or two with a student or colleague or in some other way.
Oh, how we drift away from our friends. And the ones back home play remember when
OWLs. No, not those feathery creatures but the exams that Sam and her fellow Fifth Years would be taking this year. Sam had decided to go to the Library and do some serious studying of subjects that she had struggled with slightly last year. She would do studying on subjects that she was good at, at a later date.
Samantha approached the front desk and said quietly and politely, "Excuse me, sir? I am wanting to do some study on Defence Against the Dark Arts and Astronomy. I was wondering which book from each subject would help."

He had wondered how long he could go without stepping into the place, but it seemed he'd reached the limit where avoiding the library was concerned. Hitching his bag higher on his shoulder, Zeke entered the premises and meandered about for a short while. It took him some moments until he realised the reception counter or advice counter or whatever... was situated at the centre of the space, as opposed to the front near the entrance. Go figure. Or were there multiple entrances? That might explain it... he'd have to explore.
Approaching the desk, Zeke beamed at the librarian. "Hey," he greeted informally, "would you be able to help me? I'm looking for information on..." err, where was his list again? "Sorry.. hang on," he mumbled, his head bent as he shoved his hands deep into his pockets, front and back until he found the scrunched up parchment he'd been looking for. She had been popping into the library more than she did last term, which was saying something since she had helped keep up on the library last term with Nessa while Leo had been in the hospital wing, but Cassie had her reasons why the books interested her so much this year.
She was carrying a few Divination books that she was going to return, see her entire purpose of being there, of course. At the door though she might have stopped to fluff her hair just once more and check her reflection in a portrait before her heels tapped towards the front desk. As she set down the books her green eyes casually looked around to see who as here.

Earlier that morning a large shipment of new editions of school textbooks and literature had arrived. Leo had spent most of the morning carrying out the tedious work of labelling each book and adding his usual selection of protective spells. When the young brown haired boy entered with Cassie just a step or two after him Leo was trying to not get chewed on as he was trying to close the new extended edition of the Monster Book of Monsters a feat he had been trying to achieve for the last half hour or so.
A battle he wasn’t exactly winning. Sweat creasing his forehead he begged the brown haired boy as he stepped up to the counter. "Can you please stroke the spine of the book gently? I need you toooooooo do that before the book's monsters decide to chew my arm off." Merlin, why had nobody removed this book from the curriculum yet? It was almost as dangerous as the guide on snakes that if you weren’t careful could give you a poisonous sting.
Flashing a glance in Cassie's direction he asked trying no loose his grip on the book "Can you please find my wand? I must have dropped it beneath the already labelled books to the right of the counter." He pleaded with a head nudge in the direction of the book pile.

Of course, what he'd failed to notice until now, was that the Librarian seemed to have his hands full. Very full... and he was sweating and stuff. But it wasn't hot in here, so... what the? Upon being asked to stroke the books spine - an odd request if ever he heard one, he realised the mans struggles. And WHY exactly would he want to stroke a rabid beastly book? Well obviously he was a Gryffindor, so here he went!
"Sure thing, Sir!" he replied enthused. His note lay on the desk, all but forgotten and he reached over to do as he was asked. Stroke the books spine. Stroke it. And that he did. Gently he ran his hand and fingers up and down the length of the books furry spine. Neat! "Uhhh... can I have one of those?" Like, for keeps?
Upon entering the library, Gregoire had some serious business to research. He had to get down to this whole 'fairy tale' thing going on. Gregoire saw with his own two eyes the head girl, Alexa, acting as if she was 'Maleficent.' The name sounds vaguely familiar. It was obviously from a fairy tale. Also from being from France, Gregoire knew that Maleficent, or in French, Malfaisant, meant evil or black hearted. So obviously if she was from a fairy tale, she would be the villain. Which would also be a serious problem. Unless this was all one big joke, which would be a very very good thing. It would be better than what Gregoire was thinking. But...it wouldn't be possible. Unless that the fairy tales were true...no...that couldn't be. Anyways. Back to business. There was a fairy tale book that needed to be found, and if they had one here, the librarian would know where it is!
Walking up to the front desk Gregoire politely asked to the librarian "Excusez-moi Monsieur. Do you have a fairy tale book?" That was a weird question for the dirty-blonde third year to be asking. Generally that would be a question coming from a first year if that even! Fairy tale books were generally only things a kid wanted. But this would majorly help out with this situation....if he could only find a way to make her back down...maybe by mentioning something or someone. Maybe even acting like someone could even somewhat scare her into getting some information out of her! Just something along those lines!

"OHMYGOSH Leo are you alright?" She went into a bit of panic mode seeing him dealing with the awful book. She disliked the biting ones so much and even swatted at it. Though and after thought told her it was no good. One had her foot for hours back in school because she was too embarrassed to seek help.
Looking towards the young man she gave a small smile. "Hello Zeke." Moving to look around for Leo's wand, she let Zeke deal with the petting. She wanted away from it before the thing tried to bite her.
Kneeling on the ground she looked around for his wand. Here wandy wandy, where have you moved too. Looking under the counter she finally spotted it. Cringing, because she just knew there were spiders under there, THEY TOLD HER, she quickly grabbed the wand and jumped back up. "Here it is!!" She hurried to hand it over.

Feeling the book give off a loud PURRRING noise and ease its attack Leo acted swiftly and closed the book and the heavy lock all in one motion. Gratefully he accepted his wand from Cassie and the flicked it once at the lock. Finally safe!
Letting out a loud sigh of relief Leo pulled out a towel from under the counter and wiped away the sweat on from his forehead. Flexing his arms to stretch them out after the ordeal he turned to the boy with gratitude. "Thank you for your quick help, Mr? If you hadn't come when you did I'm not sure I would have come out of that unscathed."
Watching the boy gently run his finger over the furry book Leo asked "You want to borrow this copy of the Monster Book of Monsters? It’s pretty feisty."It was worth mentioning. Well weirder things had happened. Turning his attention to Cassie he smiled warmly. "Thank you for finding my wand Professor Morgan, and I’m fine." Shoving the towel back under the counter Leo asked. "What brings you to the library?" It didn’t feel right to call her Cassie in front of a student. Even if he wanted to.

It had been a busy day in the library and Leo had stood on his feet more than he had done since the years start. It seemed that the student’s wants for reading material of all sorts increased the further into the term they got. Leo had just slumped down in his seat at the front desk for a well earned rest when a dirty blond boy trailed his way up to the desk.
Straightening in his seat Leo greeted the boy with a cheery smile. "Good day," furrowing his brows just a little he answered. "I’ve got a number of fairy tales books. Especially muggle ones." Grabbing his wands from his holster he used it to fetch a book. As it sailed down on the counter he offered it to the boy. "Did you want something like this? Its Muriel Ashworth's prized '100 fairy tales and bedtime stories' it's a good read and has lots of pretty pictures."

And to think he thought libraries were BORING. Heheeeee. Well, these Monster books weren't boring, that was for sure... in fact, they were kinda cute as well as being cool.
Professor Cassie got another smile, but the librarian had his attention for the time being. He was the man he'd come to see after all. "You're welcome, Sir," Zeke started, with a bow of the head. "And it's Zeke, Zeke Rogers." Yep, that was his name! Don't wear it out!... or well, he could, so long as it was for good things not bad. "Aaaawww, I'm sure you could've, why didn't you pet it?" If he knew that was how to control it?
Of course, he wouldn't mind borrowing it, but he was more interested in owning it. "I meant for keeps, but I'm sure my mum could buy it for me." She approved of spending on books, especially the learning ones. "But I'm not here for this specifically, I need some research books for my astronomy assignment," he added, pointing to the note he left on the counter.
So uhhh... yeah. Serve him too please, not just the lady Professor.

With partly blurred vision Leo looked on as the boy enthusiastically reached out to stroke the spine of the book he was holding onto for dear life. Feeling the book give off a loud PURRRING noise and ease its attack Leo acted swiftly and closed the book and the heavy lock all in one motion. Gratefully he accepted his wand from Cassie and the flicked it once at the lock. Finally safe!
Letting out a loud sigh of relief Leo pulled out a towel from under the counter and wiped away the sweat on from his forehead. Flexing his arms to stretch them out after the ordeal he turned to the boy with gratitude. "Thank you for your quick help, Mr? If you hadn't come when you did I'm not sure I would have come out of that unscathed."
Watching the boy gently run his finger over the furry book Leo asked "You want to borrow this copy of the Monster Book of Monsters? It’s pretty feisty."It was worth mentioning. Well weirder things had happened. Turning his attention to Cassie he smiled warmly. "Thank you for finding my wand Professor Morgan, and I’m fine." Shoving the towel back under the counter Leo asked. "What brings you to the library?" It didn’t feel right to call her Cassie in front of a student. Even if he wanted to.
It had been a busy day in the library and Leo had stood on his feet more than he had done since the years start. It seemed that the student’s wants for reading material of all sorts increased the further into the term they got. Leo had just slumped down in his seat at the front desk for a well earned rest when a dirty blond boy trailed his way up to the desk.
Straightening in his seat Leo greeted the boy with a cheery smile. "Good day," furrowing his brows just a little he answered. "I’ve got a number of fairy tales books. Especially muggle ones." Grabbing his wands from his holster he used it to fetch a book. As it sailed down on the counter he offered it to the boy. "Did you want something like this? Its Muriel Ashworth's prized '100 fairy tales and bedtime stories' it's a good read and has lots of pretty pictures."

Professor Cassie got another smile, but the librarian had his attention for the time being. He was the man he'd come to see after all. "You're welcome, Sir," Zeke started, with a bow of the head. "But I'm not here for this specifically, I need some research books for my astronomy assignment," he added, pointing to the note he left on the counter.
So uhhh... yeah. Serve him too please, not just the lady Professor.
Cassie couldn't help but snap for Zeke she was so proud of his calm and cool thinking. Many first years would have freaked out with a book like that, but he just went up and pet it AND made it purrrr. It was totes adorbs did he know? "Zeke is a very promising young Gryffindor. He's in my lessons and is doing a fabulous job." She beamed at them both.
She let the young man say his business s she organized the books she had just scattered on the counter to look for Leo's missing wand. Placing them in the check in area she turned her attention back towards the two males.
Professor Morgan she gave an odd look, right right student, "Please Mr. Kitridge it's Professor Cassie to all the students so feel free to use it too." Giving him a sweet smile, Professor Morgan just seemed to formal to her, so she enjoyed having her first name be there. She was very glad he was fine though.
Oh.. why was she here for a moment it slipped her mind as she just was watching. A blush ran over her face a bit, "I was just returning a few books I checked out the other day." Seeing him almost daily it probably wasn't a surprise. "Now I'm going to see if I can find one or two on necromancy for my SNACinators. It's going to be a fascinating SNAC club meeting you should come join us." Her beaming smile sat towards Leo until she remembered Zeke, "Oh you too Zeke. It going to be a bit advanced, but I'll be the one doing most of it so you should be fine." Green eyes moved between both of them, could they tell how excited she was?

Eyeing the monster book of monsters with a small inward shudder Leo turned his full attention on the boy. Beaming broadly he said "It's a pleasure to meet you Zeke of the lions." Petting the book absent-mindedly he responded to Zeke’s qualified question because of the circumstance."I couldn’t reach around quick enough to stroke it. The monsters in the book are unfortunately pretty fast and agile as you could see and has very sharp teeth..." Leo trailed off. And if he had had his wand nearby then he would most likely have opted to paralyze the book rather than attempting to stroke a book that wriggling around in his arms.
Pick up the scrap of parchment Leo read it over raising a brow. "Why do you need a book about vanishing cabinets if you’re researching black holes?" Was he missing something? Regardless he grabbed his wand and summoned the books from the shelves and as they landed in front of the lion he beamed. "Look through those books Zeke and see if any of them fit what you are looking for."
Turning to Professor Cassie as she spoke about necromancy Leo shuddered for a second time in a just a few minutes but now it was clearly visible and very much in contract to the bubbly excitement that Cassie was. "Why do want to teach your Snacinators about necromancy? I find it to be a very creepy subject." He really did. It was fascinating he'd give Cassie that creepy.

Zeke of the Lions? ............ HAHAHA, that was neat. Of course, Zeke couldn't help but blush a little at Professor Cassie's words. Promising Lion? Really? Was he? Was he REALLY? He beamed up at the two of them. He did try, and super hard too. He had a family at home he needed to impress so they wouldn't forget him. He didn't have anything to say to that, so he just stood there feeling a little awkward, but happily awkward.
The Librarian dudes excuse was hilarious, legit, but still hilarious. "My mum has a saying for that," he mused, "you need to develop CONSTANT VIGILANCE!" Yep.. he may have said that last part a little too enthusiastically, but it was true. Expect EVERYTHING and ANYTHING all of the time and be AWARE of your surroundings! Huzzah! And that was rule 1 in How to Stay Alive by Emily Browne. Hehehehehe. She didn't know about the book yet, but he was piecing it together from what she'd been telling him.
Still, the Librarian dude asked good questions, it was a pity he couldn't see the correlation, especially considering he was the Head of House for the SMART house... but... oh well. You win some, you lose some. "Oh it's relevant, trust me!" he stated firmly. "See.. I don't know if I could PRODUCE a black hole, but a Vanishing Cabinet could still symbolise a black hole. Things go in or get 'sucked in' at one end," he even used his fingers to make air quotations at they hypothetical sucked-in-ness of a black hole, "and then they come out at the other side in a completely new place... or you know, 'universe' or or... 'dimension'... who knows really, I've never been through a back hole before, but it's something like that."
And... so... it was actually a good thing the Librarian asked. "You don't know where I'd be able to FIND a Vanishing Cabinet do you?"
He accepted the books that were summoned to him, but they looked big, and heavy... and he wasn't sure he had the patience to go through all those pages to get to what he wanted. Boooo.
As he was examining the books, he was half listening to what the grownups were saying. Necromancy? SNACinators? OH!.. and he was invited? "... Will there be cake?" he asked, a cheeky grin on his face. Though, as soon as Librarian dude mentioned the topic being CREEPY... he was totes there! BUT... cake would still be appreciated. Boys needed to eat, did they not?

She didn’t want to bother them as they spoke about Zeke and his library needs. So she decided to stack a few returned books while they spoke. She couldn’t help but hear what they were saying though and smiled. “I’ve always heard that it just about finding the right place to find something you are looking for at Hogwarts.” Giving little Zeke a little wink she continued with the books in her hand.
As she fiddled with some books her greens eyes kept glancing at Leo as he spoke to Zeke. She smiled to herself and her own thoughts as she continued. Noticing the shudder she chuckled and glanced at both “Oh Leo, it’s not creepy when you understand it like I do. You have to remember I’m a professional.” She beamed fully confident in her Divination skills. “Plus I’m not going to use the darkest part of necromancy just the fun part.” This time giving Leo a little wink.
Her focus went to Zeke as he asked a question, “Cake? I do love treats. I’ll tell you what. We will have our meeting and towards the end I’ll have the house elves make a cake for a treat.” That sounded perfect. Such a great request!
Looking back towards Leo again she tapped the counter, “Can you help me with the books?” She knew where the books were, she knew the library pretty well, but going to do it herself would mean less social time with Mr. Kitridge.

Gregoire looked at the librarian and then at the book that sailed onto the counter. Flipping to the first few pages, then closing the book again Gregoire replied "Oui, this would do-" How did you say it in English? "Nicely." That was how you said it right? It sounded correct from what Gregoire could remember. So now what did he have to do? Would the Librarian just let him take it or what? Back at Beauxbatons, Gregoire didn't visit the library much. Even when he did it was because one of his classes was meeting there, and the books were already waiting for them to use on the tables in their study area. Gregoire started to take a close look at the cover. Hopefully this book would have the information he would need.
Wondering Gregoire asked the librarian "Savez-vous anything about Malefaisant?"(Do you know, Maleficent) He could use some other information about this topic from someone else. Especially the Librarian. If anyone would know the answer it would be- well you'd expect it to be about the person who practically spends most of their lives around books.

Sophie slooooowly opened the door to the library and peeked inside. She'd rarely ever been in here before. It looked...big. Really big. Not much different than the rest of the castle, though. Except there were books. Lots of them, too. She decided to pass by the librarian's desk before heading further into the room.
She paused by the desk and looked up at the man. Funny, but she couldn't even remember who the librarian was at first. Sad. She should really care more about her studies. Meh. Oh, well.
There were a few others at the desk, so Sophie just kind of hung back while she waited for the librarian. She didn't even know what to say to him, really. She and casual reading just didn't get along.

Penelope had just seen a whole quidditch pitch get swallowed up by a sinkhole. She needed to go to the library now. At the library, she knew that she would find her head of house, and books. It would be safe in the library. Having the librarian as the Ravenclaw head of house was really useful when one Ravenclaw needed to find her head of house and wanted to get books. Hoping that Samantha would come with her, Penelope went to find Mr. Kitridge. She didn't want to cause a mass panic about the sinkhole, so she tried to act as normal as possible.
"Good day, Mr. Kitridge," she greeted the librarian/ Head of House as she approached the front desk of the library. Breathe. After seeing the quidditch pitch disappear, Penelope was feeling a little weak and lightheaded. Her eyes were wide with fear, and seemed to be staring at Mr. Kitridge. Quidditch pitches didn't just disappear. She leaned a little closer to the librarian. "The whole quidditch pitch was swallowed up by a giant sinkhole." Standing up straight again she pulled out a piece of parchment that had a list of topics that she was looking for books about. "Do you have any books on these topics?"

Samantha was now standing next to Penelope who was quietly talking to Mr Kitridge. Samantha noticed the expression on Penelope's face and placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder to let Penelope know that Sam was here for her.
