Stepping into the arena, you are immediately enveloped with the light shining into the room, either morning or evening depending on what time you decide to enter, yet it's as chilly as a snow covered stone statue. An extra cloak or two would be helpful. If you can tear your gaze away from the intricately designed windows and high ceilings could, you can see to the very right of the room, there is the long platform in which supervised duels will take place while four benches on either side are placed at a safe distance for those who would like to sit and watch. Just ahead of the platform in the right corner, there is a door, though pay no attention to it. It's locked for a reason.
Towards the back wall, there are various types of practice dummies, both stationary and moving, depending on what difficulty the practicer wants. Don't be afraid to go all out with your spells, for these dummies are charmed to repair themselves. There is one practice dummy set aside that will shoot spells back to the practicer, however, permission from a Professor is required to use it. To the left side of the arena are two sets of stands, eight seats high, that look out to the entire arena, comfortable for those who would just like to watch what's going on all around or for general purposes such as studying or relaxing after a long day in the arena.
The middle of the room is quite empty, due to the fact that the defense Professor enjoys presenting lessons in here, but please, despite the brilliant light that shines through the arena due to the large windows, it is not some place to sunbathe or fall asleep. You will be levitated out with a good dose of cold water splashed on you if caught.
The dueling arena. Dueling meant fighting with deadly weapons in muggle definition. Creepy. Though they had DADA lessons here, it was different this time. Leah guessed that it was her worrying about whether she would get beaten by Angel or not. She had heard that Gryffindors were good duelers. She shrugged the uneasiness out. It did not matter who won or lost.
Now she was just waiting for her best friend aka honorary sister to arrive. Leah had prepared and practiced some spells, which was a very unusual for her to do. She opened up her battered notebook and skimmed through it once more.

"So do we have to try and get each other in headlocks and things like that?" Angel had watched people duel before and that is what they normally did. "Oh and slapping is that involved as well?" Angel had seen people slap other people in duels, that was a duel right. "Where the glove that people use?" Angel was confused now.
Angel looked at her best friend and honorary sister and beamed, her wand was in her pocket. "You shaking with fear already." Angel giggled at her best friend, she knew her friend would know she was teasing her.

Unfolding his arms from across his chest, the astronomer chuckled and turned only his head to look at the Gryffindor."Qapla'!" he replied in his best Klingon accent. The amusing thing about the language was how intimidating it sounded. Angry too. Reminded of the first time he had ever heard Russian actually, before he had actually studied the language. Needed it for the...well...for the mission that never was.
Without saying anything else, he gestured towards the platform and grinned. "Have you been taught proper dueling etiquette, Mr. Hirase?" And since he was dueling a professor this could be considered supervised. Yep.
And he really just wanted to stand on the platform and look all official. Hadn't gotten to too much as a student so it was definitely time to make up for lost time.

The Gryffindor jumped as the Professor shouted at him and because it sounded like he was angry, Kevin took a step back. No, what was he doing? He was chosen to be a Gryffindor mostly because of his idiotic bravery! So instead of taking another step back, he actually stepped forward. "What did you just call me?!" he shouted back, gripping the wand but not pointing it at him.
The boy looked at the platform and sighed. "Not really" he answered. "I mean, i read about it in the library books but that's about it" He hadn't done a wizarding duel before. "But i do know how to fight muggle style though!" he said, trying to sound intimidating as he stepped towards the platform.
He climbed on it and looked at the Astronomy Professor. "You promised you'd have a handicap, so you...you uhm.." he thought for a moment, looking in to the distance as he did so. Blindfolded? nah, in movies they usually got BETTER when their sight was missing. On one leg? Well, as much as he wanted to win, he didn't want to win against someone who had to hop on one leg the whole time. "So you have to keep one arm behind your back at all times!" even when he fell down muwhahaha

Almost all music was awesome to her. Of course some genres were better than others. He wanted her to sing rock sometimes? And he was still referring to her voice as beautiful? AJ could take a compliment. "You flatter me. I'll have to do that sometime." Fond memories of her and her sisters playing karaoke in her room came flooding to her mind.

Adi was such a good friend, and she was glad that she bumped into to him in Diagon Alley and that he happened to sit at her table so she could get to know him more. "You can play an instrument?" A guitar at that. "I'd love to hear you play sometime." A band in the making perhaps? "You think of those requests then." AJ always had a good time with her friend and she couldn't wait to see what he could do with a musical instrument.
Was she flattering him? She wasn't thinking about anything other than stating facts. If he was flattered then who was she to burst his bubble? "The truth Adi, only the truth."
She had done a good job. WOOT! Spending too much time thinking about the praise that she received the next spell hit her again. Blink, blink. "Where am I?" Had she completely lost her mind? "Penguins can swim, did you know that?" She reached her hand out to Adi to touch his hair, but she couldn't quite reach with her feet still being somewhat stuck to the floor. "Pretty hair."

She laughed out loud at his next statement. "Aren't you so kind." She liked that he was quick on his feet. AJ was enjoying their conversation. But they were in duel mode and she needed to get her head back in the game.
All of a sudden it was as if a calming sensation came over here. Blink.Blink. "What happened?" It was almost like she was missing a piece of memory regarding what had just happened to her. Not waiting for an answer she shouted. "Expelliarmus!" Did she say that right? Hmmm... only time would tell.

"Indeed." AJ was still being playful, but Adi really was the nicest Hufflepuff that she had met. The same could be said in terms of everybody, not just Hufflepuff.

He was pleased to see AJ all excited about her spell work. Adi remembered how he reacted the same way every time he got his spells right during his first year, too. "Well done, AJ!'' he said as he collected his wand. "Thanks. So, I guess you won with disarming me.'' Adi wasn't bitter or anything. Even if AJ had beaten him twice. First in Potions and now at the duel.
Angel had heard about the duelling area and she had asked Leah to duel with her. "I take it this is where we duel?" Angel smiled as she came into the room. Looking up from the notebook, Leah saw Angel walking towards her. Waving, she listened to her friend. "Yep, it is." she nodded. But headlocks? She frowned. Slapping? She arched an eyebrow. Gloves? A small smile creeped up Leah's face. It was funny how she was thinking about the fatal muggle dueling only a moment ago and Angel brought that up. Dropping her notebook down inside her bag, Leah shook her head. "No headlocks, no slapping, no gloves. Only your wand and your brain." she said, pulling out her own wand. "I guess you could use violence if things get bad, but not at me." Nope, no thanks. Angel must be a good fighter if she came here prepared to hurt or kill Leah.
Leah beamed back. Was she shaking? She pulled out her hands to look at them. They were perfectly fine, except that her nails needed another polish. Oh well. The second year purposely shaking her body. "Yeah, I'm too scared. I think my honorary sister will knock me unconscious in the first minute." She put her hand up on her forehead and pretended falling down.
"Okay, let's start. Get your wand out please, Ms. Valentine." The girl dropped her posture and shuffled further away from Angel. "We bow first." She did so herself, twirling her hand in a variety of ways.

Looking over at Cris, she saw that he had managed to create a shield around himself. Jasmine wasn't sure whether or not her spell had worked. When Cris remained silent, she figured that she had been successful. She aimed her wand at him and said, Finite", ending the spell. "Are you OK?", Jasmine asked. She walked over toward Cris to make sure that he was fine.

"Here we go. One more time for all the marbles." Once again, Jasmine got into position to begin. "Are you ready?, Jasmine asked Cris. "One, two, three.......Immobulus", she called out. Sending the freezing spell toward Chris, Jasmine was immediately on the defensive. Could she get lucky twice in a row?

"Here we go. One more time for all the marbles." Once again, Jasmine got into position to begin. "Are you ready?, Jasmine asked Cris. "One, two, three.......Immobulus", she called out. Sending the freezing spell toward Chris, Jasmine was immediately on the defensive. Could she get lucky twice in a row?
Cris immediately dived to the right dodging the spell as it flew past him. Quickly rolling back up on one knee, Cris pointed his wand at Jasmine and waving it in an arching motion like an upside 'u', Cris called out, "Impedimenta".
He watched as a turquoise beam of light shot out from his wand and headed towards Jasmine.

Well, as much as he wanted to win, he didn't want to win against someone who had to hop on one leg the whole time. "So you have to keep one arm behind your back at all times!" even when he fell down muwhahaha
"I didn't call you anything, Mr. Hirase," he replied calming as he shoved both of his hands in his pants pocket and took a few more steps away from the wall. For whatever reason, he was feeling especially calm at the moment. Perhaps it was because Mr. Hirase was already so hot headed. "It was a greeting a fictional alien language."
His eyebrows both raised and and he rocked back on his heels with mild amusement. "You did research in preparation for this duel?" he questioned with a small smirk. For someone who was always so adamant about not cracking open a book and studying, this little exercise here was proving that he was capable of doing it...now it was just a matter of seeing how good he was at using what he had read in a practical setting. "Everyone should know how to duel properly, so let us go through the motions. Shall we. No muggle style fighting, however. This is a wizarding duel after all."
Stepping on to the platform, wand out and twirling it between his fingers, he chuckled under his breath. Oh yes, he had nearly forgotten about that part of the bargain. Although he had expected something a bit more...creative in his duel restriction. "Alright then," he nodded as he conjured a bandage and offered it to the young man. "You want to do the honors or should I?" Meaning tying one arm down. Figured it would give the Gryffindor some sort of empowerment doing it himself.
He was having another one of those role playing moment, only instead of the captain of the Enterprise and his Number One it was Obi Won training his Padawan - and he couldn't tell whether it was Luke of Anakin he was looking at at present. Hard to tell with such temperamental Gryffindors like Mr. Hirase. Heh.

...Fictional...alien...what?
The boy sighed heavily and rubbed his forehead tiredly. He knew an alien language? "How'd you even kn-...no nevermind, i don't think i even want to know..." Because he didn't want him to go on and on on how he had learned this fictional alien language. He wanted to duel. But as he lowered his hand, he suddenly remembered that there was SOMETHING on his forehead. He had completely forgotten about it because he had been used to the writing by now. "And remove this stupid writing okay? why did you even think i would FORGET this?" He wasn't the type of person who forgot something quickly and when he did forgot a thing it was usually because he wanted to forget it.
Why was everyone so surprised to hear he had studied? "Yeah? so? got a problem with that!?" He only did it because he wanted to defeat the guy. Not because he liked studying. "I had wanted to practise with Donny but it didn't really go well, the guy is crazy!" ahem, of course he hadn't said ANYTHING about him being the one who had provoked the attacks. Oooor...that he had kind of threatened him... Best to keep that a secret.
As he stood on the platform, he watched the Professor as he conjured up a bandage out of thin air and then gave it to him. The Gryffindor's eyes twinkled as he walked towards him and took the bandage. Okay...so how did he do this? He looked confused for a moment as he tried to figure out how on earth he was supposed to tie his arm down. On the back was just too much work so he decided to keep his arm at the side and then began to wrap it around his torso. After he had walked around three times, the lion grinned and stepped away.
Ha! this was so cool! wait till his friends heard about this muwahaha.....oh wait..he had none.
"I read we have to bow before a duel but i don't like bowing to anyone so let's skip that part and get on with the fun, okay?" he said as he raised his wand and pointed it at the Professor.

Jasmine wasn't sure whether she heard the incantation first or saw the blue light, but a split second later she was on the floor. After diving again, she had managed to avoid Cris' spell. Immediately jumping to her feet, Jasmine fired back. "Cantis", she said as a white light shot out of her wand. Taking a page out of Cris' book, she followed up with, "Protego". A blue shield formed in front of her so she would be briefly protected should her spell have missed. Better to be safe than sorry.

Looking up from the notebook, Leah saw Angel walking towards her. Waving, she listened to her friend. "Yep, it is." she nodded. But headlocks? She frowned. Slapping? She arched an eyebrow. Gloves? A small smile creeped up Leah's face. It was funny how she was thinking about the fatal muggle dueling only a moment ago and Angel brought that up. Dropping her notebook down inside her bag, Leah shook her head. "No headlocks, no slapping, no gloves. Only your wand and your brain." she said, pulling out her own wand. "I guess you could use violence if things get bad, but not at me." Nope, no thanks. Angel must be a good fighter if she came here prepared to hurt or kill Leah.
Leah beamed back. Was she shaking? She pulled out her hands to look at them. They were perfectly fine, except that her nails needed another polish. Oh well. The second year purposely shaking her body. "Yeah, I'm too scared. I think my honorary sister will knock me unconscious in the first minute." She put her hand up on her forehead and pretended falling down.
"Okay, let's start. Get your wand out please, Ms. Valentine." The girl dropped her posture and shuffled further away from Angel. "We bow first." She did so herself, twirling her hand in a variety of ways.
Angel was a bit worried now, no one told her she had to duel with her wand. "You mean this is a wand duel?" Angel was a bit scared now. "But I don't know many spells yet." Angel was really scared now. "I'll have to do my best, but go easy on me please." Angel hoped that her honorary sister would help her out a bit.
Angel slowly took out her wand and then bowed. "There I bowed, now what do we do Leah?" Angel was wondering why Leah hadn't told her this was a wand duel. She just had to wait and see what her friend had to say about the next things they had to do.

She was fast, Cris had to give Jasmine credit. But so was he. Even as she cast her next offensive spell, which bounced off his shield, Cris was already in the process of casting his at the same time. With a whiplike motion of his wand, Cris called out "Carpe Retractum" and in a flash of orange light, he sent a rope flying out of his wand, through his shield and towards her. If the spell worked, the rope would reel her towards him.
Would the rope reach her first before her shield went up?
Hoping to distract her, Cris called out teasingly, "You're not going to get me to sing that easily, Jasmine," from behind the protection of his shield which fortunately for him was holding up.

He was pleased to see AJ all excited about her spell work. Adi remembered how he reacted the same way every time he got his spells right during his first year, too. "Well done, AJ!'' he said as he collected his wand. "Thanks. So, I guess you won with disarming me.'' Adi wasn't bitter or anything. Even if AJ had beaten him twice. First in Potions and now at the duel.
"Thanks!" she said as she beamed from ear to ear. "I can't believe it actually worked" It was the first time that she tried that spell and it worked for her. Trying not to rub it in she once again looked at Adi. "It's because I've had a good teacher." Even if Adi didn't necessarily go over every little detail AJ noticed the wand work that he did and applied to her work. "I know you went easy on me." AJ was still glad that she had won though. It was a nice feeling for the competitive first year. "C'mon, let's get out of here."

Jasmine thought that she would be temporarily safe from any spell Cris threw her way. She thought that she had bought herself a few seconds. She was wrong. The spell that she had sent at Cris had been deflected. He was so quick that he had managed to send his spell toward her a fraction of a second before her shield was completely in place. The rope attached itself to Jasmine's wrist and she felt herself being pulled toward Cris. To add insult to injury, she didn't get to hear him sing........and he teased her about it. Slowly she was pulled closer and closer to Cris. "You got me fair and square", Jasmine said. She was really surprised that she had been able to hang in there as long as she did. Raising her arms as much as she could, she said, "I surrender".

Twiddling her wand a little, Leah looked up to see a worried face. "Oh." she said, patting Angel's shoulder, "oh, I'm sorry I didn't tell you, Angel. I should have understood." Her lack of understanding was amazing. Beating herself up in her mind, she said, "Trust me, I don't know much either." But she would still try to 'go easy' on her honorary sister.
The second year stood up straight after her bow. She did a funny posture, her wand above her head. "You should know a few spells from classes by now. If you don't, I'll teach you some," Leah then drew a horizontal line with her wand, saying, "Lentesco!" She aimed at Angel's feet but the pale blue light hit her hand instead. "Uh.. okay. This is the Gluing Spell. It binds the target to whatever it's touching."
