A large number of floor-to-ceiling bookcases fill up the library, creating aisles upon aisles of books available for students to read and browse. To make finding books for all years a little easier Mr Kitridge has divided the bookshelves into sections like romance, suspense, crime, history, plants and fungi etc.
To return books just walk up to the appropriate shelf and hold up the book. The gripping charm in place on the shelves will take a hold of the book. When you feel a tug on the book let go and the book will fly up and find its right place amongst the other books on the shelves. When retrieving a book you can use the sliding ladders or if you feel confident with your magic you can use a simple accio charm to retrieve the book you want.
In front of each aisle there is small set of desks which students can use to complete homework, copy notes, take book references or chat. Keep your voices down and be mindful of falling books and other students accessing books around you.

That left her in the position of going to the library to look for something at least halfway decent to read.
Of course she ended up grabbing a book centred on Anne Boleyn. It wasn't really historical, seeing as it was one of those books that worked on the premise of Anne actually succeeding in giving Henry VIII a son but Ana figured it would still be pretty interesting. Hopefully. And if it wasn't at least she hadn't read it before. She still moseyed her way down all the other aisles though, just in case there was something in them that she might want to read. She wasn't holding her breath but it could happen. Although she was pretty sure she wouldn't find it in the romance section. Ana was going to skip it until she spotted a very familiar girl standing in the aisle and looking at a book while giggling.
So of course Ana had to mosey on down that aisle too. Because laughing Lux was adorable and because Ana hadn't seen her in quite a while and wasn't about to miss her chance to actually talk to her friend. Peeking over the younger girls shoulder at the cover of the book Ana raised an eyebrow in surprise before whispering, "Don't you think you're still a little young to be reading that?" Not that Ana could actually judge but the book did have a shirtless guy on the front. Which was quite overdone and tacky in her humble opinion.
Clearly her laughter had been louder than she had intended, because it had attracted someone's attention.
Not that Lux minded in the least, because it was ANA. She hadn't seen her friend in a while so this was a wonderful surprise to say the least! Oh, the book she was reading. Giggling again, she looked at the cover once more. "Well, I'm almost fourteen, so maybe not as young as I used to be." She gave her friend a smile. It was crazy to think that she was a teenager now, when this time last year she had been only twelve.
"It really is awful hair. I was picturing Bay with his hair like that, and it made me laugh." Sometimes the silliest things amused her.

They weren't able to describe very clearly from what I understand." Must have been the shock of the ordeal and she certainly understood that. "And, not to doubt the skills of the healer.." Because she certainly did not, she knew she was very competent. "But I'm sure that makes it so much more difficult to treat them, not knowing what it is." Such a mystery and not in a good way at all like reading an exciting suspenseful story.
"Co in charge sounds fantastic!" she beamed at her friend before glancing at the spine of another book. Of course they could do this together! They'd get the library cleaned up and organized in no time and then it would be easy to maintain until Leo could return to his post. And she had complete faith that he would very soon. "That's a good idea," she nodded. "Maybe some of the older students.. prefects, even?" Though she wasn't sure, but something about a lot of them struck as different, not quite what she remembered prefects to be from when she was a student, but she couldn't quite put her finger on it. "Or maybe some that we notice to be here a lot." She looked around the area. Certainly, if they were here a lot then they'd apt to be more likely to want to take care of it, right? Made sense to her anyway.
Once that book was back in its rightful spot, she picked up another. "It really is awful and no sign of it getting any better." She frowned as she sent the next book off to its place on the shelf. "It's nearly April.. and still blizzard-like conditions? That sees more typical of the Arctic Circle, not that I've ever been there," she chuckled at this, though it was still quite troubling. It was one thing to call it a bad Winter, but it really wasn't anymore. It was well beyond that. "Oh, goodness! Poor kitties! Of course they're welcome to stay in my office, though I'm not sure how much warmer it is in there. The charms don't seem to be holding up well but I do have the fireplace on quite a bit." That did help, even if she had to huddle right next to it at times. "Oh, I think that's a great idea.. maybe somewhere centrally-located so everyone had equal distance?" That sounded most fair and she was such a fan of fairness!
Placing a book at the shelf and watching it leave her hands again to go to the top of the shelves she turned towards Nessa, “I just don’t understand it, it has to be a creature, so why didn’t I sense it.” This was bothering her so much, though she tried not to show. “It’s so strange, but I’m glad we are all snowed in to be honest.” A little bounce in her step again. “It’s fun to have everyone just in the castle, but it’s also safer. If whatever attacked them is still out there, then it’s better that students can’t try to get out. We don’t need anymore students injured.” That would just be awful. “Cece will do it, she is fantastic. We need out of this depressive conversation. Yes, let’s snap out of this.” She grinned and snapped.
Moving her cart just a bit she noticed some students showing up. Looking at them and giving them each waves, it was great to see such hard workers in the library. What a wonderful thing Leo had to see all the students studying and being so great. “It’s settled then until Leo gets back on his feet we are cohelpers.” It was way too perf. Cassie couldn’t help but think some of the prefects might not be able to come help, but she knew others would be willing to pitch in. Looking around the room she even thought some of these students could be their helpers. “Yes, there are plenty here that would probably love to help out.” Of course they would, their librarian was brave to try to protect them in the forest, they’d want to show their appreciation in helping him here.
Yes the bizzard was just awful and everyone was certainly getting tired of it. She could tell the students attitudes were changes and she hated seeing that. So many sweet children being grumpy. It was just so sad. She needed to find a way to be a happy place for them. “I sure hope it goes away soon.” Sending a few more books up the shelf to go back to their home, she smiled and snapped, “Oh thank you they will love visiting you.” She paused a second before shaking her head, “Aries needs to stay away from Ophelia it seems.” Crazy kitty, she saw him, he should know this by now. He couldn’t get away with anything having her as a kitty mommy. Yes, I was thinking about holding a special lesson anyway, so that would work.” She had an idea, but she had to go seek some help for it.

That, and his incessant fidgeting and bouncing always seemed to make enough noise that it bothered other people, even if he hadn't realised at first.
But now he was here, and headed straight for the Quidditch section of books. This was one topic that could hold his interest for hours, even in book form. The only book Toby ever remembered reading cover to cover was his (now very battered) copy of Quidditch Through the Ages.
And there were so many more to choose from here. Books Toby had noticed before but never ended up taking out when the grounds were at his disposal. He stood in front of the shelves now, staring up at all the tomes about different Quidditch positions, gaze flicking from 'Chaser' to 'Keeper' to 'Seeker' repeatedly. Even as he stood there, Toby's knee was bouncing and he was chewing at one of his cuticles with vigour. Moving. Always moving. And yet still looking as upbeat and cheerful as ever.
Which book looks most interesting...?
Ooh, was that one about the Magpies?
West was returning from the desks to put back the books he'd just gone through, so he could replace them with others.
There were professors here all of a sudden. West was keeping to himself though, in a different line of shelves. The Quidditch shelves specifically. Because honestly if you couldn't play, the least you could do as someone serious about the sport was study it. He'd learned that as captain, and even before that from Dylan. Strategy mattered. He still had the U17 team playbook memorized too.
....... and speaking of, there was one of his former teammates. He didn't get to play with Toby for long but he'd enjoyed it while he had... much better than playing against the kid, right? Right.
"Hey mate. Researching?" He asked casually, and started putting his own stack away.

For a moment Lex just stared at her. "That," She finally got around to saying, "has got to be the most Ravenclaw thing I've heard all morning." Procrastinating by putting books away? That would never do. Just look at how productive it could make you which defeated the purpose of procrastinating altogether. Someone should point this out, someone like Lex obviously. "If you were really looking to waste time you could have made piles and pyramids with 'em, maybe charmed some paper men and watch them move about them." She would have suggested a rousing game of bowling with the books but it might be too much for a start. Only teasing.
Lex followed her back to the table she'd been at and took the seat offered to her. "You really should. They can be quite useful once you force them to act like they have a brain. I just bribe them." There was enough candy in her back to go around and enough hexes in her wand for the non-compliant. Either way, she won.
"That, I can understand." Lex said, throwing her feet up on the chair next to her. "I need some new. The same people and the same walls every day are starting to wear me down." Monotony, it wasn't something she did well with. "Anything interesting happening up in the claw tower despite the same old people?"
"Just all morning?" Charlie managed in response, busying herself with putting her pencil case back into her bag. "I would have thought that warranted 'Most Ravenclaw thing ever'. Who beat me?" She looked up with a grin, surprised at how much the comment had felt like a compliment. After spending her whole first year here, and forever feeling like an outsider, it was nice that throw away comments were managing to make her feel like she belonged.
Merlin knew it had taken long enough. "Paper men? I might have to try that one next time." The blonde mused, looking over the other girl with a smile. So maybe Lex did know far more about how to procrastinate than she did. Charlie knew how to get stuff done, and... Well, that wasn't a bad thing? Meh. Maybe it was starting to become one.
Bribes? "I do have a pile of sweets in my dorm. And the ability to help them with life and worldly questions they may have." Maybe making them do her homework would be another thing on her list - if she could ever get the courage to try it. She even had a few spells that could either help or hinder the younger students, depending on their level of compliance.
She shook her head a little, shaking thoughts she kind of didn't approve of away. "Everything seems so small, now that we're all enclosed." She added, nodding as Lex put her feet up. "I don't pay much attention." shrugging, she thought over what she'd witnesses lately, and shrugged again. "Nothing exciting, anyways. What about up with the Lions?"

Toby was pretty engrossed in his self-appointed task of searching for interesting Quidditch books, so much so that he didn't notice West approach at all, when usually the slightest movement nearby him might have drawn his attention. Nope, Toby was really into this. He didn't even HAVE a book in his hands yet, and he was already captivated by them.
Until West spoke and Toby finally turned to look at him, instantly beaming.
"Hey West!" he responded enthusiastically. Maybe too enthusiastically. Toby reminded himself at once that he was probably supposed to stay kinda quiet in here, so he toned it down a bit. "Uh-huh. Tryna do some extra reading is all. Still haven't decided what position I should specialise in yet." He looked up at the bookshelves as he spoke and pulled out a book on Keeping before looking back to West. "How about you?" Getting ready for the big Quidditch career, maybe? Mayyyyyyyybe?

Though honestly West had specialized so quickly and got so good at his position that there'd never been any need for him to experiment with the other positions... though he thought keeping was alright... if a bit boring. Maybe when he got older and slowed down a bit.

"You can join me if you like? Sometimes two heads are better than one and all that." And the younger boy was probably almost as antsy about not being able to play as West was.

Yes. Tag was in the library. Shocking, he knew. But, who knew? Right? He might find something interesting during his time here to read a bit later on? Probably not. He could still be hopeful though. The blonde would never read a book out of a library. Now, a good recommended book, he would read that.
He walked through the aisles and aisles of the library trying to find a suitable place to perform his charm. Tag wasn't paying too much attention to his surroundings until he saw he'd ended up in the herbology like section of the library.
Yes. He'd do his charm here for reasons.
Wand at the ready Tag said, "Caelum Saepio." with that familiar wand movement. Once again nothing happened. The boy groaned to himself. Couldn't he perform a spell right on the first try? He had his moments, but it was rare. "Caelum Saepio!"
Much better. A thicker fog, probably the most evident one Tag had created with all his attempts, appeared from the tip of his wand. It hovered over a small section of the books, but Tag happily smiled to himself knowing this was probably the best he'd used this spell so far.
What a wonderful thing Leo had to see all the students studying and being so great. “It’s settled then until Leo gets back on his feet we are cohelpers.” It was way too perf. Looking around the room she even thought some of these students could be their helpers. “Yes, there are plenty here that would probably love to help out.” Of course they would, their librarian was brave to try to protect them in the forest, they’d want to show their appreciation in helping him here.
Nessa frowned a bit as she allowed another book to fly up into its correct place on the shelf. "I don't know.. there's something very, very odd about it, that's for certain," she mused as she picked up another book and checked its spine for marking of its location. How frustrating that must be for Cassie! Nessa gave her friend a sympathetic smile. She had to know there was nothing she could have done to prevent it, she really hoped that she wasn't beating herself up over it. Hmm.. "Yes.. yes, you're right," Nessa nodded with a beamy smile. Leave it to Cassie to always see the positive in every situation. "It is safer.. and we can all really band together this way, bond and become a real Hogwarts team." Oh, see? They could really have fun in a bad situation.. certainly minus the scary outdoors attacks. "There's a lot we could do to make the best of it.." Slumber parties, her little exercise group idea, that Field Day that the prefects did for them.. But Cassie was right, even if they were trying to look at the positive, they didn't need to be depressive. "Good idea!" Snap, snap.
Nessa was still looking at the book details and trying to get them in their right places on the shelves, moving along with Cassie and not really paying much else attention, that she did not immediately notice any specific students as her friend waved. Releasing one book, then another to the shelves, Nessa turned her brown eyes to the blonde, giving her a happy smile. "Oh you have just the best ideas!" Co-helpers in charge, yes she liked this very much. Perhaps they could even determine schedules and make sure to come regularly to keep the library in top-notch shape. She had just grabbed another book from the cart when she heard Cassie's words. That would probably work best.. if someone spent a lot of time here already, then they probably loved books and respected them enough to help out and take care of them. But she hadn't really taken a minute to look around until now.

Nessa glanced around the library from where they were re-shelving, just observing who was already here and who might be willing to help out. There were a handful of students near where they were standing, though still a bit away. Watching for a moment, the brunette beamed at the young man - hmm, she couldn't quite remember his name - as he reshelved his own books instead of leaving them on the table or taking them to the front desk.
First giving Cassie a smile, she turned to the Slytherin. "Thank you so much for helping out! I'm sure Mr. Kitridge would appreciate your efforts to help keep the library in order while he's.." Well, she didn't want to say 'in a coma' because that was just discouraging.. and she knew he was going to be awakened and healed soon by their capable healer. "While he's unable to take care of the library himself." Was that better? Maybe.. but she thought so. "Please take five points for your responsibility and helpfulness to the library."

This is where her quote should be, but lazy
It was odd, Cassie couldn’t help feeling that way about it. By the sounds of the injuries you would have thought it was an animal or some kind of creature. If that was the case Cassie should have known it was happening. Had a vision or sensed it, but she had gotten nothing. It was very frustrating, though the blonde kept her smile and placed a few more books on the shelf. She gave her friend a beaming smile as she said shew as right. “I love that thought. I was watching the final Gobstone Match and Simon was cheering for both his house and Hufflepuff. It was so wonderful to see. I love the houses being so competitive, but I so enjoy seeing someone just cheering on everyone.” It’s something she had been teaching all term. Showing everyone appreciation. Maybe it had gotten through to a few. She was snapping and the Divination professor couldn’t be happier about it. Giving some more snaps before turning back to the books.
She watched as Nessa looked around and then spoke to a student. The boys were looking at something, but Cassie wasn’t exactly sure. Though she was thrilled to hear what Nessa was saying to the seventh year and she gave him very approving snaps as well. This was just wonderful. “Thank you soooo much for your help.” She beamed towards West. “What a splendid thing you did for him.” Giving him points for helping, it was just a perf idea from her friend.
“What if it doesn’t? What if we have to be here all summer? It could be fun.” She couldn’t help the little bit of excitement. If they were all still stuck in the castle all summer. She could plan some fun things and she knew the other staff could too. Though some of the staff had people to go see, she wasn’t all that worried about it since her house was in Hogsmeade and she didn’t have many summer plans. No she could handle being stuck longer if they had to be, though she’d love some rest time at home and maybe some sunning outside. Glad Nessa agreed to watch over them, especially Aries she chuckled at her interest in the lesson. “Yes I was thinking about doing one in the kitchens. Possibly making fortune cookies.” Now didn’t that sound just super fun!
As he finally made his way to the main part of the library Peeves looked around cackling as he flew.
"Librarian stuffy pants isn't even here. Why are you all being so good and putting things away neatly. When you should be having fun!"
Cackling more he took the snow in the bucket and started dumping it around. On the students, professors, and books. Looking into the bucket he noticed the melted snow and grinned his wide grin.
"Locked in a castle and can't get out, students start to smell after awhile. Time for a bath from your friend Peeves."
Taking off he swooped down and turned the bucket upside down letting the water flow out and all over the library as he went.

"You can join me if you like? Sometimes two heads are better than one and all that." And the younger boy was probably almost as antsy about not being able to play as West was.
"Uh-huh, you're totally right," Toby nodded, still grinning. He looked down at the book in his hands and traced a finger over the words in the title. "And it's fun, trying to work out a main position. S'just that Tyner mentioned that it's super rare for a professional player to be able to play more than one position, and that I should have one in mind by fifth year." Which was, of course, rapidly approaching for Tobias. "I'd hoped to be able to make a decision this year if I got on the House team, but..."
He decided to leave it unsaid, the whole problem with that. It wasn't like West wouldn't know exactly what he was alluding to, after all.
And still, Toby smiled. It was really no use dwelling on something that couldn't be changed. Not in his opinion. He pulled down another two books, one on Chasing and one on Seeking, just as the rest of what West had said began to register in his brain. He looked up (way up) at the Slytherin.
"Yeah? For real?" he asked, eyes shining excitedly. "Sure! That'd be awesome." Toby was trying his hardest to not get too bouncy and overexcited about it. It was difficult, because West always seemed so cool and collected, and next to him Toby felt like some kind of hyperactive kangaroo or something. But still, West was such an amazing Quidditch player, and almost definitely gonna be one of the best in the pro- leagues. Working on strategy with him... just yes. Yes please.
Somewhere a little ways away in the library, Toby heard............. cackling. He blinked for a moment and looked off more or less in the direction it was coming from, blinked, and looked back at West. Quidditch. Let's just keep focused on Quidditch.

One of the BIGGEST rooms he knew was the library. So since it was the biggest Kyroh figured that the heat left it FIRST right? Was that how it worked? Plus since his head of house was no longer here to light the books on fire anymore the library had to be cold. But he wasn't here to held the whole room, just the books.
The miniature dragon trailed behind making slight noises and Kyroh just shook his head in protest. "Nooo. Of course books can get cold! They got cold all the time Ramsey don't be silly."
Though Kyroh wasn't here to light books on FIRE. Just to get them WARM.
And since this was a spell he learned about in CHARMS class, he made his way over to the section of the library where much of the books that discussed charms were located. "Caelum Saepio" The first year stated, tracing his wand in a sideways eight against the book shelf. As the fog occurred, he couldn't help but feel BETTER about his spell casting.
BAM. All warm cooks. "Live long and er-whatever that saying went that Flamsteed would probably say!" Turning he skipped right back out of the library.

Jasmine arrived at the library on a mission. She had gotten an idea while in the ravenclaw Common Room and she was here to gather information. Jasmine wanted to find out how to create a a bluebell flame like the one that Professor Bellaire had used in class. That flame really warmed the class so maybe a single one would help Charlie.
Walking up to the bookshelf, Jasmine scanned it for the book that she needed. Spotting it, she stood up on her toes and reached for the book. Once she retrieved it, she took the book over to a table and sat down. Pulling out her parchment and quill, Jasmine was ready.
Jasmine began flipping through the book looking for the instructions. Finally she found it and began to write the necessary information down in her notebook. Jasmine told herself that she would be able to make the flame for Charlie, she had to do it. When she finished writing, Jasmine packed up her things and left the library.
