Library Bookshelves

http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h2...ookshelves.jpg

A large number of floor-to-ceiling bookcases fill up the library, creating aisles upon aisles of books available for students to read and browse. To make finding books for all years a little easier Mr Kitridge has divided the bookshelves into sections like romance, suspense, crime, history, plants and fungi etc.

To return books just walk up to the appropriate shelf and hold up the book. The gripping charm in place on the shelves will take a hold of the book. When you feel a tug on the book let go and the book will fly up and find its right place amongst the other books on the shelves. When retrieving a book you can use the sliding ladders or if you feel confident with your magic you can use a simple accio charm to retrieve the book you want.

In front of each aisle there is small set of desks which students can use to complete homework, copy notes, take book references or chat. Keep your voices down and be mindful of falling books and other students accessing books around you.

Happy reading and learning!

Kate squinted at the bookcase in front of her. She was pretty sure she'd found the non-fiction section. History, at least. The only problem was, she couldn't really tell which books were just plain history and which were about specific people.

It looked like she was just going to have to pick at random and hope whatever book it was proved informative. She had plenty to choose from. But it couldn't be too long or she'd never be able to carry it. Plus she couldn't put off her schoolwork for too long. But maybe…

There! That book looked like it was the perfect length. Maybe a little dusty, but old books smelled good. Standing on her tiptoes, Kate stretched and tried to reach the book. Not… quite… tall enough. Hmph. She needed a ladder. Kate walked purposefully down the aisle, gripped the nearest ladder, and pushed it along until she had returned to where the book she wanted was. Carefully - so carefully - she climbed onto the second rung of the ladder, gently slid the book off the shelf, and jumped off the ladder with a slight thump.

Great Wizarding Events of the Twentieth Century. Excellent.

Cradling the book like a baby, Kate wandered to one of the nearby desks, plopped into the chair, and read for a bit before returning the book and leaving the library.

Whit/Lux & Sarah/Cinna.

After what felt like hours of trying to remember where she was suppose to meet Lux and Cinnamon and meeting a new friend that helped her remember where she had to go, Emmylou was finally in the library but Lux and Cinnamon were no where to be found. It was strange, she could have thought that they would be here by now but maybe she was the early one. Books and books and more books. Emmylou was pretty much in her utopia. This was where she belonged. The little lion looked around at the shelves, she walked up and down as many shelves as she could before her friends showed up. Emmylou grabbed a book every once in a while and read a page or two before looking at her watch and wondering where Lux and Cinna were. Emmylou put the book back and grabbed another one. There had to be a lot of books in this library, she knew where she would be spending a lot of her time when her friends and boyfriend were busy or if she wanted to clear her mind.

Trying to rush but not rush at the same time, Lux made her way through the different aisles of the library. She was looking for her best friends, who she had planned to meet.

Finally spotting Emmy looking at a book, she made a beeline towards her. "So sorry I'm late. I was with Bay and lost track of time." It always made her feel bad when she was late, because she tried her best to be punctual as much as possible. "I wonder where Cinnamon is," she added while looking around curiously.

The little lioness sat on the floor with her knees up to her chest and a random book in her hands. She didn't even know what she was reading but it just hooked her in deep and couldn't stop reading even if she wanted or had to. Emmylou was so lost in whatever book she was reading that she didn't even keep track of time or even look around to see if her friends were here. She figured that she should just close the book and go look for them because they might be having a hard time finding her.

After some time Emmylou made it half way through the book. She was a fast reader but she also thought that she had to have been here for some time now. The third year was lost in her own world, a world where she was able to let her imagination fly about. There was a voice that was distracting her but she knew the voice. Emmylou peeked up from the book. She knew that red hair anywhere. "It's okay, Luxness." She smiled and said in her southern accent just a little to loud. "Cinna isn't here either." Emmylou shrugged. She hadn't seen or heard from Cinnamon in a while, the blonde was starting to get concerned about it. Emmylou closed the book that she was reading and set it down next to her.

SPOILER!!: Hayden ^_^

Hayden grinned. Yay, Leah thought her idea was good. She was all set to head to the library, well follow Leah to the library because she really had no clue where it was, when the older girl suggested the common room. Hayden shrugged. "I saw it yesterday. I mean, it's definitely cool but I think I can see enough of it any time I want. We should start with the library." True, she had been on her way to the common room but with the prospect of adventure in front of her she would much rather go find new and exciting places. Plus she was excited about her map and she wanted to figure out how to do that first.

So they were on the way to the library! "Yeah, we should do that." Research and prepare before starting. One would say that that is the most important thing. The library was on the FOURTH floor. Starting from the first floor, Leah led the way up and up and up into the quiet library.

"Here we are." The second year said, more to herself than to Hayden. "So, I think we should read about the sticking charm, how to make an accurate map, and whereabouts of Hogwarts is fun." Unless the other girl knew about all those things. That would be embarrassing, because Leah did not know much about that. "I'll research about the school, Hayden, you could put down your stuff and learn about charms." She whispered, disappearing behind a bookshelf. Then her head popped out again. "And remember to keep your voice down!" Hayden probably knew this.

littledhampir 05-23-2014 04:49 PM

Hayden was distracted momentarily when they walked into the library. It was a lot bigger than she was expecting, but that seemed to be the trend at Hogwarts. She stared at all the books and all the space to read and all the pretty things. She almost forgot she was supposed to be following Leah and scurried over before the girl could disappear behind the seemingly endless shelves of books. She tried to focus on what Leah was saying instead of being distracted by her surroundings.

"Sounds good," Hayden agreed with a cheerful smile. She was excited to research spells because she didn't know any at the moment. Researching the fun places at Hogwarts sounded really fun as well but she was happy about the job Leah had given her. "We can report back when we find something." When she was reminded to stay silent, Hayden nodded and made a motion with her hand like she was zipping her lips. Then she plunged into the shelves, searching for the right section. The first step was finding the right spell, then they would have to practice it so they could actually perform it.

It was wonderful to see Emmy again. They were going to have so much fun together, she just knew it. The only thing was that she missed Lucas, and hadn't seen him since term started. Where was he? She wondered if Emmy or Cinnamon knew him. If they didn't, Bay did a little so maybe she could ask him since they were in the same House.

Looking around, she wondered where Cinnamon was. "Have you seen her in the dorm? Because I've hardly seen her this term so far." It was starting to get a little worrying, quite frankly.

Was Hayden not happy with the way Leah assigned the jobs? If she was Leah could not tell. Smiling, she nodded. "Sure, let's do that." Just like reporting back to a boss or something. Another big smile for the cute firstie for zipping her lips! Leah returned to her searching too. Hogwarts, A History. Hmm. Nothing much about the places in the school. She put the book down on a table nearby and continued her search, brushing her fingers against the spines of the books.

Hayden wandered through the rows of books, looking for what she wanted. She saw fiction, history, and several other categories of books. At least she seemed to be in the reference section, so she seemed to be closer to what she wanted. Not potions, not caring for creatures, not broom care, aha Charms. There were several rows of charms, transfiguration, and other various spells reference book. Hayden skipped anything that focused on jinxes and cursed, but took a few books that looked promising and brought them over to a table. She sat down, opened one up, and started reading.

She flipped through the pages, glad that they were labeled very efficiently. She skipped past the banishing spell, cheering charm, disillusionment charm and many many others. When she got to the severing charm she slowed down, because she knew she must be getting close. Sure enough, just a few pages later was the sticking charm. Hayden read carefully and then looked around for Leah. "I think I found something." She tried to keep her voice as low as possible while also saying it loud enough for Leah to hear her.

Anybody!

Hum dee dummm.

Piers was wandering. Possibly looking for a certain selection of books. When he visited the library, he usually stuck to the charms and/or transfiguration parts of the library, but this time he was on the other side. The side he rarely visited. Magical Creatures.

He wandered up and down the shelves for a minute before finding a more specific section and then.... aha, yes. Geese. Piers plucked the book off the shelf and started to flip through it. Ooh, and there were pictures, too.

This was the first time that AJ entered the library, and it was for good reason. The first year had already been let down gently by the creatures teacher about her not being able to obtain a house elf. The young lion didn't agree with it, but she was moving on to another creature that she could hopefully call her own.

Not sure where to look she just walked aimlessly around and scanned the different shelves. It was then that she spotted an adult. Not wasting any time, AJ walked straight over to him and tugged on his robes. "Can you help me find a book about unicorns?"

Geese, geese, geese. They eat grass and green stuff, they swim, yada yada, all the stuff he already knew. Piers closed that book and was just about to grab another one off the shelf, when he felt something tugging at his robes.

Ah. Someone tugging on his robes. Hello, cute little firstie.

"Unicorns?" he repeated. "Of course. Unicorns are awesome." Duh. Everybody knew that. Piers moved down the aisle towards the U's and looked for books on unicorns to discover that there were quite a few. "What exactly about unicorns are you looking for?" he asked. Because she had the unicorn world right here in front of her on paper.

Unicorns were awesome! Maybe this man would understand the urgency about owning a cool magical pet. The first year followed the man closely as he looked for a book.

"Well you see, I really want a house elf considering that they are super cool and useful, but I was told that I can't get one because my parents aren't magical which sucks because it's not my fault you know?" He was most likely going to regret asking her a question. "I have to wait until I'm of age and fill out lots of boring paperwork and cross my fingers that I will get one then." Was he seeing the dilemma now? "Sooo I need something else cool in the meantime, and I'm pretty sure that is a unicorn."

Of course the Potions professor told her that they weren't pets, but what did he know really? "Unicorns can't make me snacks like the elves, but I can ride them, so it kind of makes up for it." Not really, but she was trying to be optimistic about the whole thing.

He was expecting a brief explanation of what she wanted so, naturally, Piers was a little surprised when the girl started rambling her little mouth off about how she couldn't have a house elf, so she was going to get a unicorn instead... He tried to find the logic in that, but when he realized there wasn't any, he gave up. "I see the dilemma," he said thoughtfully, looking back up at the shelves full of books about unicorns. And it was true, unicorns couldn't fix snacks, but they were pretty friggin majestic, you know?

"Well, first things first." Piers wasn't gonna tell this sweet little girl she couldn't have a unicorn. And break her little gryffindor heart? Hell no. If she wanted a unicorn, she could have a dang unicorn. "You'll need to research what they eat so you can feed it right." He grabbed a book about unicorn eating habits and set it down on the table for her. "You'll also need to know about their living conditions so you can make sure they're comfortable." So he grabbed another book and plopped it on the table. "Also, proper grooming techniques." Plop. Another book down. "And you can't forget unicorn first aid, just in case it gets injured." He set THAT book down too. Hmmmm.... Anything else?

Finally there was somebody who was understanding her. She beamed at the nice man. See, the potions professor obviously didn't know anything. Most likely he didn't want her to have one because she would be taking away unicorn parts that he so badly wanted to harvest. She was on to him, she remembered what went into that strengthening potion. Mmmhmmm. "Thank goodness." Now she didn't have to waste time and energy explaining her point to him any further.

The first years eye's widened more and more each time he pulled out another book. Errr... why did she need so many exactly? She didn't even have the blasted unicorn yet, and it was already getting on her nerves. "Errr... I'm pretty much just going to squeeze it, and hold it, and love it forever." She didn't need to read about how to love a unicorn in no stinking book. Food it eats? "You mean I can't just pick up a bag of unicorn food?" It was a shame that she couldn't get an elf. First aid? O.O This unicorn was a needy little thing.

"Ummm... maybe you can just point me in the direction of how to get one." She could figure out the rest surely.

Leah could not believe that she did not know much about Hogwarts, even after one year of exploring. Finding a corner about geography, the second year pulled out books after books to look for the one she wanted. Hopefully Mr. Librarian did not mind her doing this. Ah, here it is! One about exploring and making maps.

Putting the other books back and heading towards Hayden, Leah heard the first year calling her. Just in time! "I did too," she said, putting the book down and sitting down. She was interested in knowing how to perform the sticking charm. Flipping through the book, Leah said, "According to this book, drawing a map is a lot of work. You need to be really accurate." A pause. "By the way, did you know that some books here are cursed?" It was a rumor she had heard.

Oh yay! Leah had found something too. Hayden was happy that things were working out for them. She nodded solemnly as she listened to Leah's findings. "Are you good at drawing? Or know someone who is? I'm not very artistic." She might be able to draw a rough outline of Hogwarts, but it would be nowhere near as accurate as Leah was describing. Wait, cursed books? "How can a book be cursed?" Hayden was fascinated. She hoped she'd know that much when she was a second year.

On to her own findings. Hayden had her book flipped open to a page labeled Sticking Charm. There were a couple options. "There's a permanent sticking charm, but I don't think we want that." Luckily there were a few, less permanent, options. "This says the incantation Epoximise will bind two objects together. Or the spell Adhaero." Was one of them better than the other? Why were there several spells that accomplished the same thing?

To be honest, the charms professor was trying to make the girl see how much EFFORT taking care of a pet pony would be so it would make her change her mind so she would want a different, less complicated animal as a pet. Pffft. Fuller scoffed lightly at the girl. "You can't just squeeze and hold and love a unicorn and expect it to not DIE." Unicorns had to eat, too! And no, a bag of unicorn food wouldn't do. "I'm pretty sure they don't sell that at the menagerie." In fact, it probably didn't exist.

Oh, right. How to get a unicorn. Piers was about to suggest she just waltz right into the Forbidden Forest and grab one, but... she was a Gryffindor. She might actually have done it. "Perhaps at the unicorn store?" Did she know where that was?

MudInMyBlood 06-05-2014 12:11 AM

Of course you can... "My dad says all you need is love." So here she was offering love, and it just wasn't good enough for the man. He didn't have to agree, he just needed to cough up some info.

It wasn't like she wasn't going to feed the animal at all. "My mum's a baker so I'll have plenty of cookies and other sweets left over I'm sure. Plus, I don't like eating my veggies so Harley can have them." Who was Harley? "Harley is the name of my unicorn... when I get it of course." Clearing up the whole crazy thing just in case his mind was going there. You could buy dog and cat food so why couldn't you buy unicorn food? "Well, somebody should get on that then." Maybe she would tell them herself this summer. AJ made a mental note to do just that.

Her eyes were bright as he mentioned a unicorn store. "Wow, they have one of those?" Totally trusting that an adult at her SCHOOL would not misguide her.

Clearing up the whole crazy thing just in case his mind was going there.

Her dad said all you need is love. Hm. "Your dad sounds like a Hufflepuff." Just an observation.

Wait, who was Harley? Oh. Oh, Merlin, she already named the unicorn she didn't even have. This was going to be a hard one to beat. "Cookies, sweets and left over vegetables. Sounds like a great diet." To be honest, he didn't even know what unicorns ate. Probably just grass? Weeds? He'd have to ask if he ever met one.

"Sure, they've got to. Somewhere." Somebody had to have a unicorn store around the world. It sounded like something Canada would do and fill it full of unicorn plushies or something. Fuller eyed the five or six books he got down for the Gryffindor. "Are you going to use any of these?" Or was she not going to listen to his advice?

AJ shrugged at the Hufflepuff remark. "He's a muggle." So she would never know what house he would belong in. "My sisters and I are the first to be all magical." It was super wicked too.

"It does. I'm pretty sure the veggies cancels out the sweet treats. Don't want him getting fat on account of him having to give me rides all the time." There's nothing worse than a lazy unicorn. Wellll, was he going to tell her where? "I'll have to google that when I get home." Did they even have computers here?

Oh yeah, the books. "I am, thanks." He had gone through all that work so it would be rude to just not read them right?

Cinnamon had gotten distracted by yet another portrait today. She really needed to stop talking to them as she walked by. She shouldn't blame her lateness all on the portraits though. The staircase had her all confused too. Then she couldn't remember what floor the library was on.

But once Cinna found her way it didn't take long to get there. Now she was having problems finding Lux and Emmy. The three of them had not spent as much time together as she hoped they would. She pecked around the corners of bookcases. Finally she spotted them.

"I'm here. I'm here." She said quietly. She was in the library. She hugged her friends. She was so happy to see them.

Muggle. Hufflepuff. Close enough. He was rather intrigued that she and her sisters were the ones with magic and ALL of them had it. That was cool.

Oh yeah, veggies cancel out the treats. "But sweet treats could give your unicorn cavities." And then she'd have to take it to the unicorn dentist. Of course those didn't exist, because wizards didn't even have dentists. Good luck with that one, kid. "You can google one of those, too." Hopefully she was writing this down.

"No problem. Anything else I can help you find?" Even though he wasn't the librarian, he WAS awesome.

Cavities? "Well, I'll just brush his teeth like mine." That was how she managed to not get a cavity in her lifetime. There was no way that she would give up sweets. That was cruel and unusual. "No cavities here, see!" AJ flashed the man her pearly whites. Of course she did visit a dentist regularly. "I'll brush them extra good." Just in case. She snorted at the google reference, maybe she would if things got out of control with his teeth.

Hmm... he was being so helpful and all. Was there anything else that she could use some help with? "I think I'm good on the unicorn stuff." Minus having the unicorn of course, but in due time. "Unless you can show me a book that tells me how to get a boy to like a girl, then I'm all good." Not for her. GAG! For her sister and that terribly quiet lion boy. AJ had tried and failed. Maybe this man knew something. "Or any advice?" That way she wouldn't have to read.
