graphics by sweetpinkpixie The official home of the Lions, the Gryffindor common room, is found on the seventh floor of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The entrance to the common room is the portrait of the delightful Fat Lady, and in order to gain entrance to their home away from home, Lions must know the password and speak it to her.
This terms password is ‘Legatus’.
Be sure to remember those words...and keep it a close secret, for it's the current password you'll need to speak in order for the Fat Lady to swing away from the hole and allow you to enter Gryffindor Tower. Once you're lucky enough to scramble through, you'll find that the common room is a circular area full of squashy armchairs and tables. To the side of the common room you will find the study tables and bookshelves which are equipped with the resources and materials required to complete any homework assignments. Fixed to the wall by the windows you will find the noticeboard for classes and other school announcements.
In the corner of the common room you will find a medium sized tray topped with soil, and spray bottles containing brown liquid beside it. It may seem strange, but this is the resting place of the Gryffindor Tower Lion topiary. The Topiary Lion moves around on his own accord, and is responsive to a pat or two. Just remember to spray his roots with fertiliser and water them occasionally when he's on his pan.. or else he might wither and die.
A window looks out onto the grounds of the school, and a large fireplace takes up one side of the wall. It's the perfect place to relax and hang out after a long day of classes. If however you are in need of a nap a good night's rest then there are two doors leading off from the common room that open to spiral staircases. Boys dormitories are upstairs and to the right, while girls dormitories are upstairs and to the left. Be sure you don’t go breaking any of the rules by attempting to go up the wrong staircases. Boys don’t stand a chance of beating the enchanted staircase, and frankly girls should know better.
For whatever reason you're here, make sure you take good care of your home away from home. There's bound to be a perfect or your Head of House lurking in the shadows.

Connor left the boy's dorms and headed for the comfort of the common room, it seemed warm and inviting, a good place to read his book. The last time he picked up The Hobbit he was interrupted by someone's pet jumping on his head. Not that he was angry about it, he didn't mind at all. Things happened and what not.
Surely enough the common room was a perfect place for this. Seated in one of the most comfortable chairs he'd ever sat in, he opened his book and got back to the chapter he was in: The spiders, Bilbo fighting them to help his friends get free and not eaten. He admired Bilbo Baggins, he was a hero but he was still afraid, he wasn't strong or mighty, he was a simple hobbit.. He hoped that one day he might be that brave or adventurous, but for now this was all the adventure he needed. |

Carrying his books and bookbag into the common room, Silas sectioned out a table for him to work at. He couldn't function in the dormitory, he had to be down here, where there was activity to ignore. The table was facing the wall, which was another plus. He pulled out his chair and plopped the books down.
It was still very early in the term, and Silas was determined to get a jumpstart on his work. He had two more years to go, and he was not going to let himself get lazy now. He pulled out some parchment and a couple of quills and scooted his chair in, flipping open the Astronomy textbook. He began to alternate between writing and reading, occasionally casting a glance around him, but refused to get distracted.

Well, it wasn't all boys NOW because Schuyler ambled in from the portrait hole with light footfalls. She'd just finished a snack at the kitchens and now she was in the mood to just lounge a little bit. She should probably be studying for classes or NEWTs, but that was something she was not in the mood to do. Hence, that wasn't going to happen.
So she fell back into one of the large armchairs and sighed contently. A few moments passed before she looked to her right and saw a boy studying at a nearby table. She shifted onto her side. "I've never seen you around before."
Which meant he was probably a transfer.

He was tapping out a rhythm with his foot, unknowingly timing out the song that was stuck in his head. His eyes glossed over the same paragraph three or four times, and only realized it when a voice nearby said something aimed in his direction. His foot abruptly stopped. He paused in his gaze, and then when no one replied to the girl, he looked up sheepishly. Never seen me around? Was that not good? Well, Silas was kind of hard to notice. After his 'um' and a short pause, she smiled at his next words. "Next time you see me then, you'll have to say 'hi.'" And vice versa. Though it would probably help if they exchanged names before then. She shifted again to tuck her legs beneath her. "I'm Schuyler. Emmons.." Last name added almost as an afterthought.
His nervousness was fairly apparent, although she didn't quite understand why he was apologizing. Oooh. He thought recognizing her was creepy? At this she joined in with his laugh and shook her head. "It's not creepy. If anything, it's a compliment." She glanced at the quill in his hands momentarily as it turned over once more, then averted her eyes to his again. "Quiet around everyone, or just around people you don't know well?"

Of course he was way too cool to show it. Heh. Climbing through the portrait hole he paused for a brief moment and smiled. There were a couple of older students around, so he sighed slightly. Older kids didn't want to chill with Second Years. Ever.
Tromping over to the couch in front of the fireplace Silas plopped down and kicked his shoes off. Pulling his books from his rucksack he started to stare into space. Studying was not his forte. But it had to be done. Ugh. UGH.
"Astronomy is stupid" he muttered to himself.

What was the best place to rest other than common room? Maybe he could make new friends. He did have some chocolate frogs in his pocket his brother had given him like two bags and still few were left.
Walking in the door after saying the password he walked straight up to his favorite place in front of the fire. It gave him a home kind of feeling. He sat on the couch. Somebody was already seated. He sat next to the boy. Staring at the fire for a while and removed the chocolate frog he wanted to eat and offered to the boy next to him “Do you want some?”

So AJ was just going to stand right here in this very spot until Benjamin came in. Instead of hunting him down in the castle, where there were so many places that he could be, she decided to wait for him where he lays his head. He would have to come though those doors sooner or later.
The conversation with Angel played over and over in her head, and she couldn't believe that she was okay with her having this conversation with Benny. The first year only hoped that the outcome was good because she didn't want to have to be the bearer of bad news.

Benny had headed up to his dorms during his free time to deposit his belongs there. No point lugging them around when he had the inclination to try and relax. Not that he was even sure that he could relax. There was so much on his mind, the strongest of which was about his best friend. If Adi was his best friend anymore. The Hufflepuff had certainly seemed like he would prefer not to be when he confronted them at the Whomping Willow.
He couldn't help but sigh as he came down the staircase back into the common room. What was going on? He didn't know and it was bugging him like no tomorrow. Relationship were just not a strong suit of his anymore than potions. Hence why he was still very much on the shy side.

Well, well, well... would you look at who just walked into the common room. She knew that waiting there would be a good idea. Not giving him a chance to get away she pounced. "Hey Benjamin." she said and she grabbed his arm. She knew he was a man of few words so she had to get him talking. "Cold day out huh?" The weather! Really AJ? "I was really wanting to grab a snack. Wanna join?" What if he said no? Well then she would just have to drag him down to the kitchens with her. She needed to talk to him and she wanted to do so over food.

"I guess I could," he finally answered giving in with a shrug.

Before he knew it the other Gryffindor was laughing a whole lot, he was just being a little sarcastic but he was glad it was seen as funny. Right. He laughed a little at the return joke.
" Salem actually wasn't that interesting, it was pretty boring really. It's much better here.." He said and thought about the people he'd already met here. " I really like Hogwarts but i don't know much of anything about London, i barely got to see it before coming here."

It was a slightly chilly day when Tag made his way out of his dormitory a few minutes ago, and the chill that swept through only persuaded him to not only stay inside the castle today, but to not leave the tower. So the boy decided to at least make way for the common room where it was nice and warm due to the burning fireplace. Ah, yes, warmth, just what he needed.
His kneazle, Stella, came by and hopped onto the couch Tag was sitting on. She got on her back, exposed her tummy, leaving Tag to give her all the attention in the world and tickle her silly.

Jeremiah was already sitting curled up in a chair down in the common room when Tag showed up with his kneazle. With a book in his lap and a light blanket draped over his shoulders he looked up at the seventh year as his pet rolled onto her back. Cute kneazle. "shes cute" she looked so even. Though anything was better than his dormmates demon!cat, he hated that damn thing. "whats her name?" hopefully better then Smaug.

Sticking his bookmark in his book he closed it and placed it on the arm of his chair before looking back over at Tag. "Stella is a nice name." for one of his nieces dolls maybe but you know to each their own and all. "she won't try to attack me?" because Connors cat did nothing BUT attack him. he had the scratches on his feet and ankles to prove it too.

Which she was, most of the time. Attack? Tag thought on that for a few seconds. " No. I don't think so. So long as you don't provoke her in any way, I think you'll be alright." He said with a nod, and slowly inching Stella towards the younger Gryffindor.

| Div Hw 1 post 1 A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.
After seeing the options for the Divination homework on the noticeboard, it wasn't hard for Kevin to decide which one he wanted to do. And it was making the card and send them to a matching professor. Wait, HE, Kevin making a valentine's day card? Yes, he was making one because the other option was like an essay and that required writing and that was too boring. And with this he could actually let his creativity flow.
He walked towards the noticeboard near the windows and looked at the list of signs that the Divination Professor had written down. He needed someone who was a Gemini or a Cancer. Finding out that his own Head of House was a 'matching sign' Kevin decided to make a card for her.
As he made his way towards the fireplace, he passed the Topiary Lion who was now sitting on the tray of soil. He picked up the brown liquid bottle and sprayed it over the lion a few times before he continued his way towards the chairs.
He sat down on the one nearest the fireplace and placed his bag that he had been carrying on the ground. So...now he had to make a card right? And...write something nice? ...gosh this was difficult!

This whole card making thing was not really for AJ. The thought was sweet, and she did enjoy receiving them, but the whole making it cutsey wasn't her idea of fun. The main problem right now though was trying to decide who it was that she wanted to send it to. There was a list of professors with their signs attached to the board so that was helpful.
The first year scanned the list, and soon realized that the choices were considerably smaller than what she assumed. Of course they would be. It wasn't like there were a million Aries on staff.
It was either going to be Hadley or Domingo. Cancer was another sign that she was supposed to be compatible with according to her birth chart. She scanned the list and saw that Bentley was a Cancer. Oh! It was her head of house. Who to pick? Her most compatible choices were Hadley and Domingo. Tapping her finger on her chin, she decided to go with her head of house. The woman had been through a lot lately.
