Default Round Two, Task One

As you step into the arena, the gates behind you creak shut. You find yourself facing the rear of what appears to be the Hogwarts Express. A dim, flickering light in the last compartment catches your attention and you notice the door is open, seemingly inviting you inside...

Please Note: Only Gaston Le Blanc and Léa Maltisse, as well as approved staff accounts, have permission to post in this thread. Hogwarts and Durmstrang competitors: NO PEEKING! KEEP OUT or you WILL be penalized!

The last task was rather difficult and Gaston along with Adele were rather very confused with what to do. Yet today Gaston had made sure he was prepared and he made sure that he had some new "number #1 Gaston" fans today.

Out in the arena Gaston looked back as the Gate creeked closed. He took a breathe then turned again, this time facing the Hogwarts express. Interesting choice yet what interested him more was what they were to do with the train.

He spotted the light flickering in the last compartment and noticed the door was open to. "I zink zat is where we must go. " He turned to see if Lea was there already.

For the first time ever, Léa wished she had studied harder. Of course, this competition had little to do with the studying done recently, but at least she would have felt better. Now, though, now she was nearly shaking. She tried not to show it, but her nervousness was visible to careful eyes. She silently followed Gaston to the area - WHY were they going first?! - and studied the train carefully. She had never seen Hogwarts Express before of course - had an idea only from history books - and it took her longer than it took Gaston to notice the light at the end.

"Oui," was all she had to say regarding his thoughts, and started walking there. She didn't stop right in front of it though - who knew what was hiding inside? - but rather to the right and a few feets off. Her wand was ready in her hands and half raised, just in case.

Lea's idea if keeping her wand steady and at hand was a good one and therefore without hesitation Gaston took out his own wand. He then headed towards the light.

The question was, what was awaiting them? A clue to aid them or some trouble before that? These things tended to rather be nerve-wrecking but the more nervous you behaved the harder the task appeared to be. Gaston knew this and therefore be used his best efforts to remain calm as he entered the flickering compartment.

He was ready. Was Lea?

Léa was certainly ready.

After counting to thirty to make sure nothing would attack come to them, she approached the open door slowly. She raised her wand more, motioned to Gaston to follow her - she was SO brave it shocked her too - she climbed to the compartment and stepped inside. She tried not to tremble but she did.

Was her wand going to be enough to meet whatever may come?

follow me; everything is all right.

Once you enter the train, the door behind you shuts closed. Not three seconds later, the train slowly begins to move forward. But that’s not the most interesting thing; You’ll find a piece of parchment floating in front of you that reads:

All stories I have told,
Goblins revolting and
Mysteries unfold,
Mine ends with a beast
And a girl whose wits
saved the boy that lived

On the other side of the compartment, you’ll notice another piece of parchment marked with the words Who Am I?: is pasted to the door with a self-inking quill floating nearby. But before you can move forward, your attention catches on something... slithering beneath one of the benches. As the train picks up in speed, a large snake, roughly 12 feet long and thick as a grown man’s thigh appears before the opposite door. However, it makes no attempt to harm you, only hissing if you try to come to close. You might be wise not to push her buttons, though.

It all happened fast but Gaston had expected something like that. He turned back to watch the door close and then turned again as the train began to move. The parchment caught his eyes and as he read it he immediately began to think.

He hated riddles. Why could they not just be straight forward with them? They were really testing their knowledge weren't they? Just then he saw the 'Who am I' parchment along with the snake.

"Nageenee...Bazilda Bagshot. It is 'er! Zink of eet ." It all popped in his mind. The snake was the beast, the girl was the well known heroine, Hermione and how could anybody not know who the boy whom lived was? This was the end of Bathilda's life and she wrote books, yes it made sense.

The snake was scaring him, he would about but for now he just kept watch of it. If it were to attack they both had wands, yet they needed to proceed. "Ze ..snake...'ow are we to pass eet to put Bazilda's name down? " He looked to Lea slightly hoping by some mere small chance she knew parceltongue. That thing was frightening and for once Gaston did not want to be a step ahead then everyone else.

Trains were meant to move, yes. Yet, she felt uneasy. She eyed the door nervously, but soon her focus was drawn to other things like a riddle and a snake guarding it.

Snake was easy. What worried her was the riddle. She bit her lower lip as her eyes never left the riddle. What was it? What could it--Bazilda Bagshot?

YES!

Léa LOVED this boy, she really did. She had little clue to the answer of the riddle but he solved it like in a second? She beamed at him brightly and said "Zat's easy." Drawing a mountain shape with her wand, she said "Immobulus!" Now, that should take care of the snake. Giving the spell a second to affect completely, she walked to the paper that had 'Who am I?' and used the quill there to write down 'Bathilda Bagshot'.

What next?

Once you write down the answer, the compartment door slides open and the second compartment door lies open, again waiting for you to enter. Once you step inside, the door shuts behind you. Just like in the previous compartment, a riddle on a piece of parchment floats before you:

I am famous I am gold,
for my smile the ladies swoon and fall,
I am marvellous I am Hufflepuff,
A boy with a scar called my bluff.

The train picks up in speed again. Suddenly, dozens of little electric blue creatures with long, pointy ears and wings emerge from their hiding places and fly frantically all over the train car. Their shrill voices fill the air as they fly around your head, tugging at your hair, kicking your ears, and pulling on your robes. If you can see past them, you’ll notice the same “Who Am I?” parchment and the quill on the other side of the compartment.

Wand out and still steady, Gaston watched Lea scribble the words down and defeat that snake before finally heading to the next compartment. Just like before the door shut and then there was a parchment.
Gilderoy! Or wait he was not a Hufflepuff but before Gaston could think farther on the fast moving train, a creature grabbed at him. A pixie and another hint towards Lockhart yet it still did not make much sense to him. The man was not a Hufflepuff.

Instead of shouting like some cowards would Gaston aimed his wand at the pixies and shouted."Immobulus!" Followed by its mountain-like wand movement. He then tried to concentrate on the riddle.

"I zought it was Gilderoy at first but 'e was not a 'ufflepuff. Zen I zought of zat Cedric man, in ze triwizard tournament many years ago.Wot do you zink? " Maybe she had better ideas on this one. She was rather clever.

And the train, could it stop moving so fast?

Léa smiled at their success and walked to the next compartment. So this was how it would be: trying to reach the first, where the most challenging thing probably awaited. She only "Stupefied!" a few pixies here and there but let Gaston do the most of it, since he was the man here. They got past the pixies without much harm. Only a few strands of her hair was pulled, and she could live with that.

What she couldn't live with was not solving the riddle.

She frowned deeply in front of it and didn't utter a word for a while. "Cedreec was... a golden boy," she said carefully, "but 'e didn't need to be 'called bluff'." She sighed as she read the riddle for the millionth time. "I zink we still go with Lockhart." What was the worst that could happen? They would have to try again. Lose a few points maybe, but Durmies and Hoggies would probably lose some points somewhere too.

Grabbing the quill, she wrote 'Gilderoy Lockhart' under the question and held her breath, wand ready if more pixies attacked them.

The pixies stop immediately after the spell is cast. Once you write down your answer, the compartment door slides open. When you walk through, you find yourself in not an ordinary compartment, but the driver's compartment. The train speeds dangerously fast with no driver but you.

If you look out the window, far ahead in your view lies mangled and broken train tracks leading to a ragged cliff that you will take a tumble down if the train doesn't stop. How far is the drop? 100 feet? 600 feet? Too many to risk, surely. Better put your Charms thinking caps on, and fast.

OOC: The riddle meant to say Ravenclaw. Good job.

Lea was right it seemed yet as they walked into the next compartment there was no clue awaiting them. Gaston's eyebrow raised till he realized what was happening and then he began wearing a face of shocked expression. He pointed to the front window of the train and began to think.

"Immobulus is for living objects. " He spoke of his thoughts allowed. Would it work? He doubted and even if they were to try would they be able to aim for the wheels correctly. They needed to find a better method to brake it.

"Brake! That's it...The braking charm to stop brooms. " He took out his wand willing to attempt it.

He did the wand movement along with the spell and aimed at the train hoping for the best.

The attempt at the breaking spell makes no affect on the train as it continues to hurtle towards the cliff with increasing momentum.

Nothing happened. Nothing at all. Gaston sighed and attempted to rethink a more efficient way. He looked over at Lea for some inspiration but that was when his brain started to work again. Maybe it was her beautiful looks or maybe his brain had just clicked but another spell popped in his mind. He had studied it yesterday, ironically...

The permanent sticking charm, of course.

Gaston stared for a split second at the window again and then cast the charm, this time hoping for progress.

Léa confidentally stepped inside the compartment. Another riddle, was it? It wouldn't be a matter to them, of course, because they would certainly - were they... accelarating? Was that a cliff ahead?

NO, NO, NO! SHE WAS TOO YOUNG TO DIE! This wasn't even an HONOURABLE WAY of dying! She wanted to die for science - wait, that got mixed up here but ANYWAYS they had to STOP RIGHT NOW!

As Léa was starting to panic, Gaston was trying to prove he had as much brain as his looks. He tried a spell while she was doing her best to calm down and when it didn't WORK, it inspired Léa.

She knelt, tapped her wand against the floor of the train and half screamed "Fixate!" She got up, pointed her wand on the floor again and screamt "Fixate!" one more time to make SURE while Gaston was trying to stick it permanently.

Stop, please stop!

Neither the permanent sticking charm nor Fixate work on the train as it zooms dangerously fast down the tracks, closer to the cliff.

Again no sucess, there had there had to be something that would stop it. Lea was panicking he was sure of it and to be honest he was slightly to but he decided to use that panic to make him think faster rather than do nothing.

What would work?

Maybe he needed to think of the mechanisms of the train. How was it run? On magic, was it not? Maybe it was as simple as that, it was worth a try.

"Finite Incantate." He attempted performing the shield-like movement.

Success, yes, please? He didn't want to die, his looks were too beautiful and he had just gained so many "number #1 Gaston" fans.

Unfortunately, your attempt to stop whatever spell that controls this train does not work and you continue to pick up speed.

Panic, panic, PANIC! rose even FASTER than train in Léa's mind. PANIC, she was PANICKING and the bloody train was STILL going and they were going to DIE - she couldn't DIE! She was going to be the head of French Wizarding Bank. She was STILL TOO YOUNG! She tried taking deep breaths as Gaston tried something else which didn't work too. She was sweating, hyperventilating and PANICKING. She closed her eyes shut, knelt down and tried to think.

Whether it would make them lose points or not, she was too young to die, or even get a small cut due to this competition. Getting up, she drew a circle around Gaston wide enough for both of them to fit in while saying "Protego Maxima! Fianto Duri! Repello Inimicum!" Then, acting quickly before the shielding lost its effectiveness, she cast a cushioning charm under their feet and drew a rectangular to take in every wall of the train while saying "Confringo! Evanesco! Reducto!"

Something, please!!! Because if they vanished (or blasted) the TRAIN, it certainly couldn't speed anymore?

Despite your panicked attempts to blow up the train, it makes no sign of slowing or stopping and the cliffs continues to come closer. Perhaps it would be wise to try a specific charm that could slow down the train's momentum.

OOC: This task will end in approximately 16 hours.

This. Was. Infuriating.

A lot.

Léa wasn't panicking anymore, though. Oh, no. She was more like a raging bull. If she had been a dragon, the world was on fire with the angry flames she would have breathed out of her nose.

She got one last idea... she waved her wand and said "Arresto momentum." If THAT didn't work, she apparently was meant to die, anyway.

Once Arresto Momentum been cast, the train immediately slows down, coming to a screeching halt before the broken tracks and the cliff. A second later, the entire train vanishes into thin air and you find yourself back in the middle of the arena. The gates open.

Congratulations, you have successfully finished your task.
