Muggle Studies Lesson Two (Building a campfire & S'mores Activity)
The Muggle Studies classroom was re-arranged since last lesson. There are individual chairs and desks, which form a semi-circle around the perimeter of the room, connected by Professor Hadley's teacher desk. As for the large open space in the middle, it's void of nearly everything, including carpet. Despite the late Winter month, the window is open.
There's several large grocery paper bags sitting atop Professor Hadley's desk as well.
On the board behind Hadley (and her desk), is three rules in large print:

ooc: take a seat and keep chatter to a minimum. We'll begin shortly as soon as enough people arrived. we've begun, so please pretend as though you've been here the whole time and feel free to join in at anytime =)
Lesson Progression:
Question One: What ways do Muggles use to keep warm during the Winter months?
Question Two: What sort of things - supplies or setup or instructions - do you need to build a campfire?
This had to have been one of his favorite subjects, besides for Astronomy that was. Yet Gaston did not seem to pay too much attention in the Hogwartian lesson. He well knew about what she was talking about and therefore for the first half of the lesson he kept himself distracted with his list.
When he wrote the last name he peeked up to realize that everyone was busy and hustling. It must have been an activity and it was not difficult for him to see that it were to be done in houses. He was the blue one, Ravenclaw, for the time being and so he headed over to Lea, a face he actually recognized and knew well.
"We are buildeeng a campfire?" He asked the blue house, making sure he was on track. Gaston always liked being on track.

He wasn't late. No. Just... a bit preoccupied reading the instructions thoroughly. Because fire, you know. He didn't want anything getting burnt. Especially hair.
Moving on...
... Huh? What? Alec looked up from the instructions and around at the other badgers. Right. So people had gotten the stuff and... there was enough, right? So... he'd help to sort out the wood. Yeah, he could do that. The seventeen year old placed his set of instructions down before heading over to General Kaid. Small sticks and twigs, medium sized wood and the large one. And the bark had to come off too. See, Alec was paying attention. Nodnod.
He bent down on the spot and started sorting out the wood. Size... was kind of odd. Because what might be small to someone might be large to someone else, yeah? it all depended on perception and opinions. Hopefully, they had a similar idea on this otherwise... this was not going to work. Was he going to voice this though? ... Maybe later.
And then a question caught his attention. Half a metre? Nineteen inches? Holding onto a bunch of twigs, the seventeen year old got up and moved away from Kaid and Lottie, sizing up the distance between them. Once he was sure he was roughly a metre away, he mentally marked out where the halfway point was and moved there. ... There was a system to this. Nodnod.
"Do you think that's the right diameter?" he asked to no one in particular, gesturing to the space between him and Lottie.
"Oui," was her answer to Gaston--someone she knew, at last!--and peeked at others' campfire as well as listening to them.
"We should dee-sign?" She was pretty sure that was what she'd heard. So... she understood the enthusiasm of that boy (Aidan) but he was actually sabotaging his own house's work by not planning.
Not that she cared. Just sayin'.
And saying.
"Why don't we build eet in ze shape of 'Ogwarts?" Flattering, much? She just wanted to see how they would react and IF they were capable of doing that.
When house teams were mentioned, Jake grinned. He liked when he had an excuse to work with Anya. Not to mention his other housemates. Most of them were cool too. So he grabbed some firewood and made his way over to his girlfriend's desk, which seemed to be the place their house was congregating.
...Not to mention the foreign people. Jake eyed the French guy for a moment just out of principle. He didn't trust people with accents around his girlfriend. He knew she liked them. And Jake generally didn't like people that took Anya's attention. Sorry, Beauxbatons.
Anyway, though, Jake was in class and he was going to be civilized and represent Hogwarts nicely and do his work. So he kneeled on the floor by the firewood and resigned to working with the French boy like he was anyone else. "... I've never actually made a fire like this," he admitted, looking up at their little group. "I guess we put the rocks around first?" Somebody, please correct him if he was wrong.

Inter-house competition. Schuyler was game for that. And so the Gryffindor grinned and made her way over to where her housemates were all congregating. Once she got there, she went ahead with that Beauxbatons' boy's suggestion and levitated some of the rocks over because most of the others had gotten firewood. "Yeah, rocks first," she agreed with the prefect. Those directions were a little confusing with the rock part at the beginning, though. The whole 'don't make a ring if one wasn't already there.' Schuyler didn't see why they shouldn't, though. And if it hindered their fire, they could always take them away.
She took a few of the rocks and got started on the circle. "Some of us should probably try to sort the firewood now, too, don't you think?" This was directed at her whole group, of course. "Smaller pieces, bigger pieces, even bigger pieces.." So that it would make making the tepee part easier on them.

But enough about that! Campfire building. The first Gryffindor she spotted was Anya! Her marshmallow roasting buddy!! Lex gave a last look at Lottie, giving her a look that said they were sharing anything they got at the end of the class before walking over to the older lioness with a grin.
"Ready for campfire building duty! What should I do first? Get the rocks? I can do that." Because she could be helpful and there was a possibility that there was sugar on the line. One did not simply tempt fate when there was SUGAR on the line.

Okay, time to try to stop thinking about snogging Ascanius. There was a competition going on now and she needed to focus. So after sending another glance and smirk over at him, she grabbed some firewood and headed over to where her housemates were gathering. And a Durmstrang and Beauxbatons person she supposed she was supposed to consider housemates or something for now. She could do that for now, she supposed.
"We're supposed to be doing it like Muggles though, aren't we?" she pointed out, setting her firewood down with the rest. It was Muggle Studies after all, so she was pretty sure the point was not to use magic for this. And even though she wasn't always one to simply follow the rules of a class like in Arithmancy ahem, she respected Muggles enough to abide by that sort of rule, at least for this class.
Glancing over the instructions, the rock part did sound a bit confusing, but it wouldn't hurt to make the circle anyway. Otherwise what was the point of having the rocks? And Schuyler seemed to be handling that, so she nodded with what she said next. "Yeah, that'd be a good idea." She could help with sorting the wood. So that was what she did, starting with putting the bigger ones in their own pile.

It was until now that Tag noticed just how many girls and that one forgein girl from the common room where in this Gryffindor group compared to just him and Jacob. They could both be easily outnumbered if some fight broke out. Just a random thought there.
Yes, they were supposed to be starting on this fire thing. We understood the directions from Professor, it seemed that most lions felt like repeating it. Although, Tag wasn't against Alice's plan. It would make things go faster. But then Penelope had a point to the whole muggle side of things so he just shrugged in agreement to her.
Wood and rocks were exactly what they needed. Yes, thank you people. Tag didn't feel like doing too much talking today but he went over to Penelope's side and began sorting out through the wood. Grabbing the real big ones and putting it in the pile that Penelope had already started.
"I say, though, once we put the wood in placement, we should go longest/biggest wood first and then go smaller and smaller?" Maybe an idea. Make things slightly easier. If other people had different ideas than he wouldn't be opposed to them.
Vesper went to Beauxbatons. I wonder if she'd know Lea and Gaston.

Wait.....What?
Vesper was confused and freezing...and when she got confused, she usually looked for a West or a Marcus. Unfortunately, this was apparently a competition between the houses and West wasn't a Ravenclaw...So, where was Mackamo?
STARE!shiver.
Well, Aidan was shouting about fire...and he was a teammate. So, yea...she was going to head in that direction...and continue FREEZING TO DEATH. /dramatic
"I'm am HERE...Tell me what to do." Really. Could someone do that? She wasn't that great at camping or building fires. It was more her father's thing. All she basically knew about it was that she'd need dry wood and stones to surround it so the fire didn't get out of control.
Also, he dad used lighter fluid sometimes...but they obviously didn't have that here.

Team work? They'd be working in house teams? Huh. Olly was about to slide up next to where Lotus was standing when Minnie gave her an order. Okay, just as well. Olly would just stay here though, watching their camp fire. Or well, the carcass anyway. She was guarding the place so that none of the other houses could take it from them.
Or something like that.
So after a while, Olly moved to place one of the chairs near their fireplace and sat down on it. She was just going to wait here and watch the others. Yes. That sounded like a good plan. They'd enough people working as it is. She'd only be in the way. Also she just really didn't want to carry any stones or wood or anything. So instead she just watched, tossing her lighter from one hand to the other absently.

Goodness they were all awesome together. Wade didn't mean to lose track on what was going on. The mention of building a campfire got him remembering all those delicious pickles smores he made at the last bonfire. He had gone too long without the pickles, so it wasn't until some movement got around before he kicked into action. Right, more wood. They had a lot of badgers working on this, so a big campfire made sense for Wade as he went to get some more.
Bringing a whole armload, he blinked as they were already working on the perfect circumference and all those fancy stuff in making it extra perfect. "I brought some more wood, how do you want them added?"

Okay, she had a few stones, as did a couple of others, and as she headed back toward the group of her fellow house members, Elodie noticed Olly and grinned. Someone to nuuuuudge now, awesome. She was already making sure that Adi wasn't somehow going to find a puddle of water and fall or something, but now she had something else to occupy her so she didn't up and get bored of this task.
She just wanted songs, okay?
Els put her stones back down and wiggled her nose at Alec and Lottie plotting out half a metre. "I'd say that looks roughly right, yeah. Your thumb should be around two and a half inches or something. Maybe. I don't know. I don't measure things much." Unless she was cooking. Heh. Then she didn't measure it with her THUMB. Gosh. Different measurements.
Okay. "What after the stones?" Kaiden? He'd been saying stuff whilst she'd been collecting stones with Minnie.
~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.
With an even wider grin, Adi said to Els. "I haven't fallen into anything more...as yet.'' He added that bit jokingly. "Besides, if I do, you'll just save me again.'' Yep. He expected the girl to save him every time and that meant she would have to follow him around the Grounds.
.................
Kaiden aka the Grump guy he had met at Tobias's birthday party seemed to know a lot about building fires. That was fine with him. Adi was half blood but he didn't know how to do everything muggle. He would just follow instructions. And also, how much was a meter? Measurements confused him.
So three piles according to Kaiden. The firstie bent forward and began to work on the pile of small sticks and twigs while some of the other worked on the circle thingy.

Lily shivered as she walked over to her fellow claws. While she had grown up a muggle, the claw didn't feel the need to take control since Aiden seemed to be taking the lead. The sixth year grabbed some wood and brought it over to where the claws were.
"I got some wood..." The redhead said placing it down near her housemates. "What do you need me to do now?" She asked Aiden, eager to keep moving in order to attempt to stay warm-ish.

Anya rolled her eyes at the foreign kids. "Muggle studies." She said glancing at each of them in turn. "We're doing this the muggle way."
And... she should probably know their names but... yeah. She didn't.
"So. Yeah. Rocks first. We need to build a circle to contain the fire. Then a small pile of kindling in the center." You know... to get the party started.
"And I call dibs on starting the pyramid after. Balancing the first few sticks is my favorite part." And nobody was taking that from her. No sir.
She then clapped her hands together and grinned at the gathered lions. "Alright then people. Pick a job. Grab rocks or kindling or larger sticks."
Or make your boyfriend do it. That was her plan. She batted her eyes at Jake. More wood pleaaaaase.

West just shrugged, remaining quiet, and went ahead and started getting wood and rocks and whatever other heavy stuff that the girls apparently wanted them to get. He could build a fire, sure, but hadn't heard of this teepee fire thing so he was just going to be the muscle (lol) and bring whatever stuff they needed. Too bad they couldn't just summon things or use the seize and pull charm. But whatever. He loaded his arms up and just brought stuff over, back and forward, a few trips.
No big deal, not like it was even heavy or whatever.

Okay, the circle of stones looked pretty good now and the wood piles were being sorted. The talk of measurement was good too though Ella didn't have much to add to that discussion. Instead she glanced down at the instructions, scanning them quickly.
"After the wood is sorted, we erm...we need to make a small pile of the kindling in the middle. Don't pack it too much though so that it'll catch, yeah?" It needed air and stuff. "Does anyone want to volunteer to do that?"
Once that was done, they could start working on the pyramid shape.
Kace figured he would volunteer to do the kindling of the twigs. "I will do it!" Kace piped up when the captain asked if anyone would. He went to the middle of the fire pit and started to rearrange the little kindling sticks into a small pile. He was whistling and having a fun time. He was making it like a teepee shape.

And... she should probably know their names but... yeah. She didn't.
"So.
She watched the others walk over even as they'd begun making plans. They looked like they had a full team for this task, awesome! The work would go by faster then they could get to the eating part. Alice got looks from her for suggesting the incendio. The same look the foreign students got. It was like Anya said, this was meant to be like a muggle class. As much as it pained her they couldn't use magic.
She'd offered to get the rocks but Schuyler had already taken care of that bit and they were already gathering the wood. Anya wanted to do the whole first few sticks thing so Lex decided she'd just help Schuyler with the rocks to start the base forming or WHATEVER it was they were doing.
Alexa started on the opposite side. "How big are we making this? Big enough for all of us while being too small to share with anyone else?" Yes, she liked this idea. Lions only. Nothing personal, it was just a thing.
She tried laying the rocks are evenly in the circle as possible. Had to make it just right for the sticks.

Heh. It was time for some fun! After watching Mischa throw some spells around in the last Divination class, Karina was ready to try it herself. But what could she do? She should be creative, so just the plain extinguishing charm was out. What about just making the competition harder for everyone else? She drew her wand and pointed it at the first person she saw, a boy with a bright yellow "HEAD BOY" badge pinned to his robes (Wade). Perfect. Of course "pointing" the wand meant that she was just playing with it in her hands, thinking, not looking at all at her target, and generally looking innocuous. Silencio! she concentrated on performing the spell silently. There. If the HEAD BOY was shut up and not there to lead, the Hufflepuffs should fall behind. Since she had silenced one person, she might as well do the same to a few others. Over the course of five minutes, she had targeted a Ravenclaw (Lily), that ridiculous flirty boy from Beauxbatons (Gaston), and to throw off suspicion a Gryffindor (Jacob) along with Mischa. Sorry Cha, really I am.
She would continue to wreck havoc later if needed, but for now, this would be fun. She continued to fiddle with her wand every now and then to throw off the suspicion and to make it seem like she normally played with her wand when she was concentrating. This was more fun than she had realized!
As Kaiden worked, he noticed the others helping out and smirked. Good good. And Flower knew how big they needed the ring, and so did Seeker Sir. Sort of. But everyone seemed in agreement, and he let them build the ring. "Its looking good guys. Both the ring and the piles." yep.
Did Ella just say Kindling? "No wait." he said getting up. Oh and his little Badger Buddy was already working on it. "Wait up little quidditch dude. We need some tinder first." scooping up the bark and stringy bits of the log he was working on, he handed it over, not wanting to mess anything up that the kid was working on. "Put this in the middle first. bark kinda on the bottom, and make the other stuff all fluffy. It will make it catch fire easier." hopefully the other houses didn't know about the tinder. Because they were SO going to win.

Lost and a bit confused, Tessa somehow managed to find her way to where the Gryffindors were working. She stood there for a moment listening and watching the older students. I wonder what they want me to do... ...because clearly they the older ones and would tell her what she needed to do.

Oh. Okay. Orders. "I'll help with the rocks." Tessa offered with a feeble smile. She was still a bit confused on what they were going to be doing but decided she'd take it one bit at a time. What were they doing with the rocks again?
Seeker!boy. See how practical he was? He was taller, though, so perhaps that step was a bit more than a meter. Just saying. But it was very smart of him. "Yes, it's perfect."Beam! She was obviously talking to Alec, yeah? Good.
Now, the stones, the wood, the...what is Kaiden doing?
Oh. Got it. This is the moment where she walks away from the campfire-building and joins Olly, yeah? Probably, but she merely eyed the girl for a moment before taking notice of how the other Houses were faring. Without tearing her attention from the working badgers.
It was a far more interesting thing to do, you know? Learning other techniques and watching others. Smirk.

Why were Durmstragglers and Frenchies joining them? Alice knew for a fact they weren't in her house, but she kept quiet and let them do what they wanted anyway. More people to do weird muggle things that she wasn't going to put in effort for no matter what. Dumb class. Hmph.
"We already did start," she informed the Karina girl from the common room. Did she not see that? People were gathering rocks and sticks and doing stuff with them and whatnot.
Not Alice, obviously.
What next?

Sticks. Right. Marigold went and gathered sticks. She chose some thicker ones and handed them to Kace, then placed a few herself. She made them in kind of a triangle shape. This was working.
Hogwarts RPG Name: Vilhem Anderson. Not William. Vilhelm.
Fifth Year
Vilhelm was supposed to be with the Gryffindors, right? Joining Karina, he hovered on the outskirts of the close circle where they were supposed to be making their fire. He nudged a few sticks with his toe and wondered if he could do this while not talking. In English at least.
