Airey arrived at the shore of the Black Lake before the rest of the class to make sure everything was as it should be. The wings for students were each in their respective colored tents, charmed to stay cool so that no premature melting could happen. Nodding approvingly, Airey glanced out at the lake just in time to see a tentacle waving back at him. EXCELLENT! His memo had been received.
He turned around and rocked back and forth while waiting for students to arrive. Once they had, Airey clapped his hands together and used Sonorus to amplify his voice so that there was no doubt his instructions could be heard.
"Alright, now that you all have your goggles on, wands prepared, jawbreakers eaten, and happy memories at your disposal, the last step is to grab a pair of wings and take flight!" he exclaimed. "You all will start out wearing the same colored wings as your house. Gryffindors in red. Hufflepuffs in yellow. Slytherins in green. Ravenclaws in blue. Once you are all airborne, the goal is to 'shoot down' people of your opposing house using Solis Focalis. Now, these wax wings are pretty resilient and it will take TWO hits before they will cease to work and...well...you'll make a big splash." And he gestured towards the lake. "For those of you who are not strong swimmers, have no fear, I asked Bartholomew Henry to assist anyone who seems to be struggling." So, no fear of ending up like Icarus, okay? "Once you have fallen into the lake and swam back to shore, you will need to retrieve a new pair of wings from the tents, but instead of your house color, you must pick wings of the color belonging to the house that just shot you down. For example, if.....Miss Wheatborn and I were dueling in the air," because he was pretty sure that she would just love to have a go at him. "And struck me twice, I would not put on another pair of red Gryffindor wings, but a pair of yellow Hufflepuff wings." Was that clear?
He then took a dramatic step to the side. "The winning house will reive a little something to help them on their quest for the House Cup," he said with some wiggly eyebrow action. "Well, what are you waiting for? Take to the skies!"
Bird's eye view....
OOC Instructions ::
▸ each house is a team & it is each house's goal to convert members of the opposing houses to their team
▸ to do this, you will be using the spell Solis Focalis (which is just a jab with your wand & magnifying glass attachment towards a person)
▸ You can only RP ONE action in your post - casting the spell, physically dodging it, it missing you entirely, or it hitting you.
▸ If you cast a spell towards someone, you MAY NOT RP the outcome. That is for the other RPer to decide.
▸ Be realistic with this. No superhuman OMG I CANZ DODGE ALL THE SPELLS EVER! sort of RPing please.
▸ two hits and you go splash splash into the lake - THERE IS NO WAY YOUR CHARACTER SHOULD DROWN SO DON'T DO IT, OKAY?!
▸ After you go splash splash, you change teams to the one who "shot you down". So if you are a Gryffindor and were "shot down" by a Ravenclaw, your character IC would grab a pair of blue wings and you OOC would wear the Ravenclaw avatar provided below *points down*
▸ you may switch houses several times during the activity. There is no limit to how many times, so have fun with this!
▸ if you choose to participate in this activity, please where the appropriate house avatar ::
▸ you do NOT have to have been in part 1 of this lesson to participate, but it would be nice if you followed the instructions here before playing in this thread
▸ you need at least 6 posts to receive full participation credit for this activity
▸ if you have any questions please do not hesitate to send me a VM or a PM and I will try to respond as soon as I can
▸ most importantly....HAVE FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUN!
Getting wet? No! Flying? NO! She didn't wanted to do it and she wouldn't do it! She hated it to get wet and she refused to fall in the lake and to get SHOT by somebody! So no, she WASN'T going to do this! With a annoyed look in her eyes she looked at the lake and at the professor, hoping that he wouldn't see her and did slowly a few steps away from him, and away from the group students, hoping to sneak away so that she didn't needed to attend this activity!
"Don't worry, we are NOT going to fall" said Sonea to her two rats in a soft whisper. "Nobody will get wet today..."
Post #1 (just getting her up there now, since I'm one of the first to post)

Happy memories! That's what Sophie had forgotten to do. Really quickly, before she attached her wings, she just sort of stood still and thought about all the things that made her happy. She remembered her sorting that had just happened mere weeks ago. She was a SLYTHERIN! Just like she'd wanted to be. The professor said they didn't need many happy memories, just enough to stay afloat, so this was good for now.
So now for the wings...
She walked over and put on a pair of green wings, because those were the ones for Slytherin, and duh, that's what she was. It took her a few tries to get them on correctly. They felt weird on her back, but what was even weirder was when she started floating. WHOAAAA. She looked down at the ground and saw it getting further and further away.
If she wasn't a Slytherin, she'd get hit on purpose just to have a fun splash into the water. As it was, though, she had pride, and it looked like there were house points on the line.

Nomming on her two jawbreakers and conjuring happy thoughts in her mind, Abigail Campbell made her way along with the rest of the class. The happy thoughts were really not difficult considering how happy she already was.
BEST DAY EVER OKAY?
Still beaming the little girl listened some more as the Professor explained, she couldn't help but stare at the wings as he spoke though. SO PWEEETTYY and BIG and just kjsafgjgsdadfgsdh. SHE WAS EXCITED.
Finally! The speaking was over and the FAIRY FLYING was about to begin.
Abbi got herself a pair of wings and put them on. They were HUGE on her but SO COOL JHQFGJGJHGJH. Everything in check the fairy jumped and began lifting up in the air.
"IM FLYING IM FLYING CAN I CRY OF HAPPINESS NOW?"She kept on going higher and higher in the air.
Now...this whole spell thingy? People were ready to be zapped by the fairy right?
~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.
Oh oh! Look at the super cool wings! Obviously he would e starting out with yellow for the most awesome House ever!Adi paid attention to the instructions Professor Airey was giving them. Ohhhkay! He think he got it! It all seemed easy enough except for the part with the spell. He wasn't sure about that...
Anyway, he would worry about that later. The proud Badger grabbed a pair of yellow wings and after many attempts, he finally it on.
"Yaaaaah!'' Adi exclaimed as he started to rise from the ground. This was totally and utterly crazy!Totally cool too but crazy too!

Oh, look--an opposing player!
Sophie was still so excited about floating in the air without a broom that she almost just let the girl pass without doing a thing. That would be too vulnerable, though, because she knew no other opposing player would do the same for her. She'd be toast if somebody spotted her and took aim. So with that thought in mind, she was going after the Lion!
MWAH HAHA!
She steadied herself and tried to get a good balance, so that she could focus on her aim. With the magnifying glass end of her wand facing outward, she aimed her wand toward the Lion. "Solis Focalis!" she said, jabbing toward the girl.

Happy memories were needed for this exercise? Not a problem, she now had a bag of jawbreakers, it didn't get much happier than that. Well actually it could and now she was remembering the sack of chocolate frogs Wade had given her only a few days ago. He was such a nice Hufflepuff, helping her in her time of need. Chocolate frogs made for a happy Gryffindor.
She took a pair of red wings and fitted them on. NEAT!
She fixed the goggles over her eyes and was amazed at how easily she got into the sky. "COOL!" This was the most epic thing she'd done in FOREVER!! Nevermind that the term had only just started and there were other classes to be had. This was flying with wings over the lake with Mr. Giant Squid waiting somewhere down there!
Of course she could swim...Lex had decided long ago that she didn't have time for that drowning thing people seemed to like doing, and the idea of going SPLASH was appealing, but the idea of having on someone else's wings was NOT. Well....unless the wings were blue...
They could work something out, yes?

The last thing he had been expecting from Astronomy class was flying. By now, many of his expectations became miscalculations instead, and he wasn't too happy about that. After making sure the magnifying glass was tightly sticking on his wand, he put on a pair of green wax-wings and secured his goggles firmly.
Now, to get on the air, he needed to think of a happy memory. First lesson and the first thing he had to do was drawing something he lacked. He sighed, and after a moment, Angeal soared. Unstably, but still good enough for someone who had never flew before.

It was game time! Even the thought of possibly falling in the lake didn't even matter to Hannah because she was ready to bring some houses down! She grabbed her Slytherin colored wings and tried to think of a happy memory. One came to her mind immediately. It was a memory of Slytherin winning the house cup. She thought she could be telling the future because she was sure that they would be winning the cup again.
She attached her wings to her body as she thought about her memory. She had to admit that this felt weird, but she was actually in the mood to shoot some people out of the sky so that trumped all weirdness.
Hannah started slowly floating into the sky. She took a moment to get the feel of it and to make sure she would be able to dodge unfriendly spells that were certain to come her way. "Bring it on!" she said pretty confidently. She was ready for whatever anyone had to bring.

While following the others, Cassia had had two jawbreakers. She was at first concerned about the name, there must have been a reason behind it. So she had waited to see others and everyone's jaw seemed to have stayed intact. A good sign. And those weren't bad you know? Lex must be thrilled.
She dropped her bag to the ground an stood listening to the Professor's words. Sounded like fun. Without hesitation, she marched up to the wings and grabbed a green pair. Happy memories? Easy. She had a bunch over this summer. Seeing her friends, going to London on the train on Blue's birthday. Picking up a special...pet with Lex. While letting her mind revive those memories she inserted her arms into the wings' straps and adjusted them well on her shoulders. All well. A few seconds later she was flying.
Wicked!
Cassia tightened her grip on her wand and twisted her body around so that she saw the others. Hmmm.. Whom to target?
Though she wasn't close enough and she didn't want to risk hitting a Slytherin with her spell. So she decided to fly closer to them. You don't say that everyday, especially considering the no broom status.

B-bartholomew Henry? Who was Bartholomew Henry, why was his name so silly, and what was he going to do to help them? Thank God Adrienne could swim, because she didn't think she'd be able to face this activity if she couldn't. Hopefully, she'd manage to get over her fear of heights to knock down some Snakes and Badgers and Lions, because it didn't look like there were any blue-winged people up there.
Adrienne strapped on a pair of wings (they weren't as heavy as they looked) and cast about for a happy memory. Let's see... day she got her Hogwarts letter? When she'd gone to see the Eiffel Tower? When she'd gotten to see Honeydukes for the first time?
Yeah, that last one was probably the best. She focused as hard as she could on the thought of all that candy, all in one place, and to her surprise when she opened her eyes she was several feet off the ground. Thankfully, she wasn't that high up, because she immediately stopped thinking about happy things and crashed back to the ground. Ow.
It took her a good minute to get back up and dust herself off, but Adrienne closed her eyes, frustrated now, and rose up into the air unsteadily. This time, when she opened her eyes, she smiled and soared out over the lake. She'd never admit it, but activity-wise, this one was just a little bit awesome.

Caleb nodded and listened as the professor explained what they were doing. He was a bit hesitant about being dunked into the water - and who the heck was Bartholomew? - but there was no time for that. Before he knew it, they were being ordered into the sky. WOOOT! TIME TO FLY!
It was definitely a MUCH different sensation than being on a broomstick. Caleb's wings made him feel almost like he was hanging from a pole or something as he swooped around the sky. He smirked to himself when he saw that a number of green wings were flying around in the sky amongst him - of COURSE Slytherin was dominating this. They were AWESOME like that.
Spotting a lone pair of red wings, Caleb went in for the kill. "Solis Focalis!" he cried as he pointed his magnifying glass wand at the Gryffindor and waited to see if the spell made contact or not.

She was ready! She was glad to see many snakes in the air already. This was a good sign. She didn't see too many people from the other houses. Scared much? An evil smirk spread across her face as the thought ran through her mind. Who was she going to get? She sure didn't want to hit someone in her own house and there weren't a whole lot to choose from right now.
The sixth year spotted an ickle puffy. Hannah did not care how small they were she was determined to take them all out. She tried to zoom in on him, but her wings didn't want to cooperate properly. How did she go forward exactly. She tried mind control but that was not working for her. Ok, just calm down and be patient and this could work.
After she calmed down and allowed her body to move in the direction that she wanted she was relieved and very happy to find that she was able to get closer to the small boy. She wasted no time and hoped that she had managed to catch him off guard. "Solis Focalis!" she cried while jabbing her wand towards the tiny puff.

This. was. so. cool.
Ella listened carefully to Professor Airey, going over the incantation she'd be using in her mind. It was always fun when you worked as a house during class and the blonde found her eyes wandering over to her housemates, wondering if they were as excited to do this as she was. She knew that some of them weren't exactly sold on the flying thing and vowed to seek them out if she thought they needed it.
Anyway, time for wings! The seventeen year old strapped on a yellow pair and smiled. Happy thoughts time, yes?
The look on Caleb's face when he beat her in Chess. Fort building with Alec. Pillow fighting in the RoR. Flying for the first time. Making the Quidditch team. Becoming captain. ...
Focusing on all of these things, Ella beamed when she starting rising into the air. This was much different without a broom. MUCH different.
Now to find a target and try to avoid being one. Hmmmmm.

There were far too many Slytherins around here, and not a single Ravenclaw that Adrienne could see, save for herself. Which was ultra lame. So, still not flying totally straight, she went for the youngest one she could easily see, reciting the spell multiple times in her head before she actually went for it.
"Solis Focalis," she said, firmly but fairly quietly still, (she didn't want the Snake to notice her until the last minute), and a beam of sunlight shot out of the magnifying glass part of her wand in his general direction.
This was going to be amazing! Adelaide stood, floating ever so slightly off the ground just out of her happiness at the moment. She nodded listening the professor's instructions, ignoring the part about Bartholomew Henry, before donning a green pair of wings. Man this was weird.
She thought of something happy and poof! she was flying over the lake. Adelaide let out an excited giggle as she began to circle ever so slightly. Most of the sky seemed to be green. But then she spotted a pair of blue wings.
Adelaide quickly gathered the sun light she would need and aimed her wand at the Ravenclaw girl. "Solis Focalis." She watched and waited to see if her hit struck.

Marigold strapped the yellow wings on and prepared to think up a happy memory.
Definitely not the end of term feast last year.
Maybe when she was sorted?
When she got her letter?
No, she decided on her last trip to Diagon Alley, when she had gained a sister and saw her old friends and made new ones. She closed her eyes to imagine the feeling, and when she opened them again she was flying!
She relaxed for a minute, hovering in the air, then turned to the nearest person.
"Solis Focalis!" she said, waving her wand. Hmm... Would it hit?

It was like snake domination up here and Hannah was loving it. Where was everybody else? Not the she truly cared because they were only making it that much easier on her house to win this little activity. Really where was the fun. She was ready for some more action and she spotted a lion along the way.
As she got closer to the girl she noticed that it was Lex. She remembered having an issue with the younger girl when they had first met, but it was quickly squashed. She didn't even remember was the problem was. No matter, this was not the time to go down memory lane.
She got closer to Lex and decided that maybe she too could catch her off guard. It couldn't hurt to try right? "Hey Lex." she shouted and she hoped it did the trick because she followed it up with a quick jabbing motion while saying "Solis Focalis!" Cheap shot? Maybe, but this was a game and Hannah was all about winning and above all else, she was about herself!

Was there any difference between flying on a broom and with artificial wings? Because if they were no different, he had utmost respect for his brother for this. Spells were being thrown everywhere. Angeal, still trying to get a hold of himself in the air found himself plunging down before he regained control just before he hit the ground.
Once he was back in the air, he tried to regain his balance when a spell flew in his direction, which he barely evaded by sheer luck. "WOAH!!" He caught a glimpse of a girl probably a year or two older than him. She was a Ravenclaw. He made a mental note to hit this one first.

Hmmm.
Y'know who Ella was pretty close to in the air? Cassia. That was Bluetiful's partner in crime, right? The ones with that matchmaking business or whatever? The blonde had never followed through on finding them customers and now she was about to cast a spell at the girl and really, she did feel a bit bad. This was all in good fun though, right? Right!
The badger flew a tiny bit closer, trying to be as quiet as she could cause stealth and the element of surprise and all that. Then, when she had a clear shot, she called out, "Solis Focalis!" With a jab of her magnifying glass/wand in Cassia's direction.

Did that work?
Flying via wings was very cool. She must have looked awesome, she thought. Too bad she couldn't see herself from afar. Was her hair messy though? Mind you those stuff mattered even up there. Maybe it'd be cool if there was a gigantic mirror put up somewhere so they'd see their own reflection? Though it might be a bit dizzying and confusing. Also, disracting which was both good and bad. Good because distracted opponents were good but that means that she'd get distracted too. So yeah, better without a mirror.
And she might have been up there thinking about theories and possibilities which was kinda pointless and not very smart. She was in the the OPEN! Where there were excellent flyers who didn't get lost in their thoughts and stayed focused on the task at hand. Hint hint Ella.
The snake didn't see the Captain aim her wand, she only noticed when the spell being uttered. And the sec she heard it and figured what was happening, she flailed to get away from the fire line but she wasn't fast enough. The spell hit the right wing. Cassia winced, just because she felt like she should, nothing hurt because nothing was supposed to. Though now she was one spell away from initiating the swimming season. She hoped she wouldn't be the first.
The fifth-year gave Ella a lopsided smile. She might or might not get back on her.

Sophie anxiously glanced forward, eyes on the Gryffindor girl, until somehow she lost her in the midst of all the other chaos. Whaaaat?! NO! She was so excited to see if her spell had worked, and now, she'd never know. She frowned, but otherwise stayed alert just in case anybody tried anything suspicious.
So with the Gryffindor girl out, Sophie flew in the other direction to try and find somebody else. Everywhere she looked, though, looked like a sea of Slytherins. She couldn't hit one of her own! BAH. She flew in yet a different direction and looked for someone else.
That was when she saw the Hufflepuff Quidditch captain. The girl looked busy focusing on somebody else, so now was the perfect time. Sophie aimed her wand (magnifying glass end out) toward the girl. "Solis Focalis!" she said with a jab.

Adrienne was totally focused on the boy she was trying to hit, so it was a total surprise when a bolt of sunlight headed straight towards her. It grazed her left wing, but it was enough to send her spiralling off-course. She could feel the heat as it dissipated near her face and she cringed, struggling to get back up to her previous height.
Anger flared when she whirled around to see who was the cause of her now partially melted wing, and when she noticed the older Slytherin she frowned and raised her wand. "Solis Focalis!" Come on, hit, hit...
Suddenly worried that professor Flamsteed would know that she was away because not all the wings were taken she slowly walked back, just to grab a pair of green wings and looked around her, searching for a place where she could hide them so that she didn't needed to carry them all the time. It would be strange if a student was carrying a pair of wings over the grounds and back to the castle, and she wasn't sure if the professor wanted his wings back, so she decided to hide them somewhere near this place where he could find them back without any problems, but not NOW!
With the green wings in her arms she tried to sneak away and toward the bushes slightly further away from the lake...

"Yes." Adelaide was so proud of herself for hitting the girl on the first shot. Then again, the little Ravenclaw hadn't really been paying attention. Now she definitely was.
And that was the meanest glare Addi had ever seen on a twelve year olds face. It was soon gone, but was followed by the pointing of a wand. She zoomed out of the way, managing to dodge the spell by only a hair. That was a close one and would probably never happen again.
