There was one and only ONE thought on Breigh's mind as she gripped the railing of the stairwell and very nearly deposited herself over the other side with all that leaning she was doing.
She HAD to get one of these installed in her house!
Of all the features of Hogwarts, of all the neat things about magic, of all of EVERYTHING she had NEVER heard about THIS. And she SHOULD have! Who DIDN'T talk about a moving staircase - several in fact - when they spoke of their school. It should have been right up there on meal menus and sleeping arrangements.
Grinning like a mad child, Breigh leaned over enough so that her feet were off the steps and her stomach acting as the balance point for her weight. If she could just balance properly, she was sure she could get her arms and legs out straight and act like an airplane!
Oh really she DID need one of these back home!

Addy was restless. RESTLESSSSS! Having taken to wandering about in her tutu she came across THIS. Worst. Idea. Ever. "If you fall and splatter way down there on the first floor they will NEVER get the blood and guts off the entry way, kid. Mind getting down before you give me heart failure??" One thing Jackyln Addeline Kennedy did NOT like was HEIGHTS. Nope. Funny that she lived in a tower now. HA! But yeah, get DOWN, kid. Now, please.

She was nearly there...nearly balanced at the right point. Nearly at the breakthrough to truly flying - albeit, admittedly much slower than on any broom.
That was until there was a voice. An interruption from the side. Gripping the banister railing with both hands so as NOT to topple over head first, but still keeping her feet well off the stairs, Breigh turned her grin over to said owner of the voice.
What instantly struck her as odd was that an older girl in a TUTU was lecturing a younger girl simply on an adventure. Which one was being the odd-ball crazy-bat now? Nevertheless, she liked crazy, but not in the style of tutus. There was a certain type of preference needed to be able to stomach those, let alone wear one.
...Kudos to the older girl for having a strong stomach?
"I WON'T fall. See?" She held one arm out to the side and plucked her hand halfway off the other side so she WAS balancing. Sooo MUCH FUN! And absolutely NOTHING to worry about. "Perfectly balanced. It's all in the abs."
Or at least, that's what her brother said. She was still trying to figure out EXACTLY what that meant, but she was sure it applied in this case. And she WOULD have patted them in clarification, had she not been lying as she was.
"You should TRY it. It's rather like flying, well sorta. Closet thing to, I guess, given they won't allow us to take brooms around this place. Come, there's a spot right here." And with that she pat, pat, patted the railing beside herself.

Addy stared. Just deadpan stared at the child on the rail. "I bet there is a school rule AGAINST you doing that. You should really get down." But she could see by her robes that the younger girl was indeed a Gryffindor. So she was probably wasting her time talking to her like a normal human being.
And was she REALLY expecting Addy to come JOIN her? Uh no. "I don't enjoy flying and I am sure I would enjoy that rather dangerous past time even less." HMPH.
And WHY was the girl looking at her tutu funny? What a weirdo. Here she was doing something rather questionable and she was LOOKING at Addy's tutu? Pfffft. "I really must insist you get down." Now.
With more than an audible groan to illustrate just how much of a drag it was, Breigh slowly lowered herself down. "You remind me of my Great Aunt Gabby: always did have a bee in her bonnet."
After her feet were planted firmly and her braid back behind her shoulder, she gave the older girl a pointed look as if to ask if she was now a suitable child: though she didn't understand such a concept given child WERE supposed to have FUN and all.
"Perhaps if you took less of a negative and fearful view of flying," and all other fun activities, "you might find you can actually enjoy it." Yes, see? She would TRY to be civil to the jail guard in training: she would EVEN try to be helpful. "Always makes things harder to swallow if you're all tense and nervous." And as stiff as the tutu she wore, which got another wary eyeball.

This child got the stank eye. Kennedy style, yo. Addy even placed her hands on her hips and shook her head. Uhhh no. "Perhaps your Aunt Gabby was merely looking out for your best interest." Seeing as the child apparently had a death wish. Mhm.
And the pointed look of a child merely got another deadpan stare. Who was this kid, anyway? Uh no. Again.
"I have tried flying a great number of times, actually. It is not something I excel at so I gave it up. And furthermore, I have no use for it seeing as I wish to further my education in Runic magic once I graduate. I have no time for useless subjects." Such as flying. Mhm.
Addy EYED the little girl and rolled her eyes slightly. "I thank you so very kindly, but I find that taking advice from a 5 year old to be rather a waste of time." PAH!
"But dishing out insults is a good use of it." Breigh returned the stares, though with more of a scowl to twist her features. "You seem to have your priorities in good order."
And she didn't care what this girl said either: her Aunt Gabby DID have a bee in her bonnet...Several, more than likely.
Brushing her hands off on her pant legs she ignored the fact that she was returning the bickering in kind: which, was okay with her because right now it WAS a good use of her time. Albeit not as good as pretending to fly on the banister, which got a rather regretful glance for their company parted so soon.
"And flying is hardly useless. What if you need to get somewhere fast? Or escape a persuer? Or go somewhere HIGH where you can't WALK to." Hmmmm? What then Miss Tutu?

Dora had grown a sort of love-hate relationship with these stairs. On one hand they fascinated her with the moving and ability to watch virtually everyone move around the castle from the top. It was a favorite activity of hers to do. But on the other hand they were sometimes a pain to travel up and down.
It kind of explained why they didn't have one of those muggle gym classes. These STAIRS were enough exercise, as was the entire castle. The third year paused on her way back up to the towers as the stairs moved again, playing with the tip of her braid.

After having a chance to confer her guess with some other Ravenclaws, Eliza rushed over to the moving staircase and began looking for more clues. She was certain this is where the riddle was telling them to go, so she didn't want to waste any time. She stood looking at all of the giant steps moving this way and that. They really were quite amazing and she didn't even want to begin to think about all the charms and spells that must be involved to keep them moving around like that.
She wasn't really sure where to start, so she just hopped on a flight of them and started looking between the railings and on each step. Is there another paper somewhere or something?

Dustin had been running around trying to figure out where to start advertising for his giant game of X-TREME Hide and Seek. The staircases seemed as good a place as any.
Unfortunately, it didn't seem like there was anyone around. Seriously? I mean, I know it's a giant castle and everything, but not a soul in sight?"
But he happened across another person. A fellow Ravenclaw, actually. "Umm.....what are you looking for?" he asked. It seemed like she had already started in on a game of X-TREME Hide and Seek.

Mo watched the younger Ravenclaw pause on the staircase... and there was Dustbin! "Hey, Dustin," Mo clapped his teammate on the shoulder before stepping around to check on Eliza. It didn't look like she'd found anything yet, but where had she looked? They needed a plan. Did Eliza have a plan?
"Let's split up and look around. Maybe we can ride this staircase to every floor and check around the landings as well." He dropped to his hands and knees and stuck his head through the railing.

Milton had followed his fellow Ravenclaws close behind and also began looking around. That's when he noticed Dustbin had suddenly appeared. "Oh, hey kid. We're looking for a clue, I think. Someone stole the trophies from the trophy room and I think we're supposed to find them."
Tilting his head up, Milton looked up the giant stairwell to see if a mysterious piece of paper was falling from the ceiling yet. 'Cause that's what happened last time.
Oh, Mo had a good idea. "Good plan, kid," he said and then jogged up the stairs, just as it started to move towards the right. And SLOWLY. Why couldn't they be super speedy stairs?

Kendall still really wasn’t half as concerned about the disappearance of the trophies as everyone else had seemed to be, but she’d gotten her truffle and a grin from Mo, which basically, to her, said she was part of the little search party that had begun. Besides, riddles were always interesting, and weird stuff at Hogwarts. She hadn’t really gotten to do much regarding the last one, aside from getting frustrated by that spirit keeping her from most of her chocolate stash for a while, so she’d join in for this. If anything, it was something fun to occupy her time, and she figured that the staircases probably wouldn’t be the last clue they got. Everyone had been splitting themselves up by house, though, and Eliza had ran off toward the moving staircases again, so she had followed, arriving somewhere between Mo and Milton but just stopping at the base of the staircase Eliza had ran partway up to start looking around between the railings and everything.
Milton had explained why they were there to Dustin, and then gone onto the staircase as well, as it had started to move, while she was still standing at the bottom. “Maybe it isn’t at this exact staircase. I mean, lots of the staircases move,” she said, stepping back onto another of the flights and grabbing the railing as it decided to move the opposite direction away from Milton and Eliza’s. They weren’t going to get anywhere if they had to investigate every single one of the moving staircases, but while she was there, she might as well look around. If anything, she wasn’t sure where it was going to take her, so she ran up a couple more steps once she got used to the movement. “I’ll let you know if I find anything,” she called back to the others. Somehow.

Spike idly wanderd down the stairs, unsure of his final destination - though it was most likely to be the greenhouses. He was about to go down to the next flight, when he spied several Ravenclaws apparently searching for something.
"I didn't know there was a 'Claw game of Hide and Seek on today," he said with a grin. Why did no-one tell him about these things? Just because he was a prefect didn't mean he was a boring-pants. Hmph. "Who you still looking for?" he asked. They must have done a good job if this lot couldn't find them.

He was beyond confused. Dustin stared at all of his housemates looking high and low for...something. He still didn't understand what.
"A clue? Stole the trophies?" he asked, incredulously. "What are you talking about? I just wanted to play a game of," he crossed his forearms in front of his face, "X-TREME HIDE AND SEEK."
.....someone was already hiding?
SHOOT! He was losing!
Dustin immediately dropped to all fours, nose to the ground, bum in the air, and began to scoot around. He was determined to find whoever it was they were looking for WHEREVER they were hiding.

She was glad there were other people to help her search, because she definitely wasn't going to be able to find the clue on her own. Not with all of the stairs in Hogwarts to search. She was about to add in to explain to Spike and the other boy what they were doing, when the boy who was playing hide and seek dropped on all fours. Well, he might find something down there I guess! She started looking at the underside of the stairs above her, wondering if something might be underneath them, when another parchment fell down and landed in front of the boy's face.
"Another clue! Quick, read it!" She bent down next to the boy and skimmed the clue as it laid face up on the step next to him.

She furrowed her brow and frowned. Ummm... She had no idea. She looked around her to the other Claws and said, "What the heck is that supposed to mean?" The first one had been pretty easy, but this? She wasn't even sure those were real sentences. "Take the first hint...meaning the stairs...take it from asking? What? Does anyone understand this?" She read it again. "Add zilch..nothing, zero. Zero stairs? Um... Not climbing high, does that mean walking down the stairs? Like, to a lower level now?"
Ethan headed back in towards the castle after an emotionally draining weekend, intent on doing nothing more than just fall asleep in one of the cushy chairs in the common room in front of the fire. He climbed flight after flight of stairs wondering again just why his common room had to be at the uppermost part of the castle, when he soon came upon a group of students. Oh! Ravenclaws.. he realized as came a bit closer. But what they were doing, he wasn't entirely sure...
Seemed to be an odd place to hang out, wasn't it? Though were they looking for something? Or at something? "Hey guys," the sixth year greeted the group as he approached. And curiosity implored him to add, "What's going on?"
Mere footsteps away and the staircase he was on decided at that moment to shift and lead him towards another corridor. Ethan backtracked his steps, looking for an alternate route to join the group of Claws.

"I definitely want to play Hide and Seek," Mo agreed with Dustin as he tried to slide his head back in through the railing. In fact, they could just go right now, and leave this stuff to the older kids. He didn't even want to find the trophies. Mo tugged and tugged, but his ears seemed to be caught up on the railing and he couldn't pull it back through. With a final great TUG, Mo nearly tore his own ears off getting back through the rails, and he lay in the middle of the staircase panting and looking otherwise wounded.
"I retire from this game. I need my ears for hearing - " he began, just as Dustin magically seemed to find the next clue. Okay, just kidding. Mo scrambled to his feet and hurried over to peer over Eliza's shoulder at the clue. "No, I think it's spelling something. Like that bit... 'take the first hint from asking who, why, and which'. They all start with a 'W', so our first letter is 'W'. Or maybe 'Wh-' since they all start with both letters."
But the next one was tricky. A zilch was zero. W-zero wasn't a thing. Wh-zero wasn't either. But... maybe 'cause a zero looked like the letter O? "Maybe the first part is WHO!" And LOOK... this one had a letter on it just like the last. First an H and now a T.

Milton had just started to head back to where they started when he heard something about hide and seek. Oh, and there was Hutchinson. "No, we're not looking for anyone. We're looking for a clue. Someone stole the trophies and I guess we have to find them." Milton gave him a look before Ethan showed up, and his attention was redirected.
"Hey, mate-" but before he could get any further, Milton saw it. The clue! Smacked right into Dustbin's face. Awesome.

Almost as soon as she’d called out that she’d let the others know if she found anything, it had seemed like ten things happened at once. Spike had shown up, talking about playing hide and seek, and then Dustin had said he’d been looking for people to play the game as well before suddenly and almost bizarrely dropping o all fours to sniff around like a bloodhound. Either way, it had stopped Kendall in her own search, as she’d watched the younger boy scooting around before suddenly a parchment had appeared and literally floated down right in front of his nose. Where did that come from?, she thought, running back down the stairs and stopping near Dustin and, subsequently, Eliza, who had beat her to the parchment by seconds. Either way, she’d started trying to peer at the parchment over her shoulder. Hide and seek could definitely wait, unless it was all of them seeking the hidden trophies.
She’d stepped away as yet another boy had shown up, asking what was going on, completely ignoring when Milton had already answered that question for Spike and the fact Mo had stepped into her former place behind Eliza’s shoulder. “What’s going on is that somebody stole all the trophies from the trophy room, and we keep getting these clues leading us all over the school,” she answered Ethan, turning back as Milton and Mo had both started trying to solve said clue. Of course, they hadn’t really gone all over the school yet, unless she wanted to count the other search parties from the other houses as part of the “we”. Either way, it was time to figure out yet another riddle, and she still had some of the truffle in her system.
“Okay, so we have ‘who’, and ‘ping’, ‘cause that’s definitely the opposite of pong. You’re right Milton. That’s a Muggle game. And the opposite of high is ‘low’, and then there’s that saying of ‘where there’s a will, there’s a way.’ So…,” she began, sounding it all out aloud even as she'd continued thinking. “Does anyone even know what ‘mong’ is? I don’t think that’s a word.” Unless that was the whole point. It wasn’t a word, but something like the part about who and what. “Whomping willow. The next clue’s there, at the Whomping Willow. I don’t think anyone would say climbing that would make their day, either,” she finally said, everything crystallizing in her head. From the trophy room, here to the moving staircases, and then out into the grounds. Maybe they really were going to have to go through the entire school.

Spike was confused. They were looking for stolen trophies? On the moving staircases? The Prefect frowned, and was about to suggest to Dustin that he'd quite like to have a game of X-TREME hide and seek, when a parchment seemed to just fall out of the air.
Now people were just littering the place with disowned homework? Hmph! Spike glanced over people's shoulders at the parchment, only reading being able to read the T at the bottom. "Someone at Hogwarts has actually got a T grade?" he muttered. "Whoa..." No wonder they had thrown it away. Even Spike hadn't got a T...he'd thought it was just a rumour.
Some moments later, however, everyone's discussions seemed to fall in to place. The parchment wasn't homework...it was the clue that Milton had mentioned. Spike pushed his glasses on his nose, and leant in to have a closer look. He had no idea why though, as he wasn't exactly good with riddles. "The start of whatty...?" He said, looking at the third line that it seemed Kendall was stuck on. "Myth, might and mong?" Spike stared. What was a mong? Or to mong? That was silly. Unless... "Oh, the letter M!" he exclaimed. "That'd fit with Whomping, yes."

Lily was headed down the stairs to go get some food from the Great Hall. As she made her way down, she got caught on a set of stairs that was on the move. When it stopped moving, Lily noticed a group of other Ravenclaws, including Captain Milton and a couple other quidditch players. Approaching the group somewhat slowly, the redhead looked to see what they were all together for. "Hey guys, Captain, Mo.... Dustin, Spike." She said, addressing the claws she knew the names of. "What are you looking at?"

Oh, lookit. Their party was growing...Only thing was that these people didn't seem to remember that she was part of the search party because they were leaving her! First, at the Empty Trophy Room where nobody even bothered nudging her when they had decided to proceed to this destination and now...they had the second clue! And they'd already figured it out! Merlin, why did they have to be smart?
"Can I see, can I see?" She mumbled, making her way over to Dustin for apparently, the clue was on his face. Huzzah! Beezus read the riddle and nodded with her other housemates when Kendall suggested the Whomping Willow. It DID make sense. "So we're off to the Whomping Willow next?" She asked the majority as she put an arm over Mo's shoulder.
Their next clue might just be there.
"Hello, Lily." the brunette also greeted the younger 'claw who just arrived. "It's a parchment...with a riddle on it. We think solving these clues would lead us to finding the missing trophies." After explaining, however, she suddenly jumped. Because she was crazy. She remembered something! "Was there a letter or something at the end of the riddle, by the way?" She peered at the parchment again. There was a letter! A different one.T. First was H...and now T.. She felt like there was something more to it..like what though? A name? Initials? Harry Totter? Heh.
