When you walk into the other door in the corridor, right next to the office, you find yourself facing a large room filled with different items, tables and big rocks fixed to the floor. If you look closely, you'll notice that the workshop is divided into different corners, a piece of parchment with information about each activity is hanged in each of those corners. There are different kind of tools and equipment lining the walls, crammed in the drawers or lying in baskets on the floor. If you're a fifth year or older, you'll probably be able to do all the spells needed in this workshop room. Those items mainly are for younger students, hence you'll find no real hammers, nails or even scissors. Professor Botros charmed them so that they were safe for the younger students. So if you try to prick your skin with a nail, it won't work and just give you a slight shock as a remainder to not harm yourself/someone else. But if you try to fixate the nail on wood, it'll be as sharp as a, well, nail. Anyways, professor Botros spends quite a lot of time in this room so he'll be around almost all the time just in case.
As well as the following activity, you're more than welcome to grab a chair and claim a spot on one of the tables and work on your ancient runes homework! Professor Botros might even be around and in the mood to help you out.
Claycraft:
A big counter in the middle of the room is set up for clay related activity. There are small wooden boxes full of colorful clay balls. Each box is closed by a wooden lid, the clay will dry and turn into solid mass after an hour or two when it's exposed to the air. You can use those to make your own set of Runes or just making runes and sticking them to a board, or even make talismans and etching into the clay a runic script for protection or good fortune or anything you want. There are much more to do with the clay, just remember it has to be something related to runes – or else you'll hurt professor Botros' feelings for not using his workshop for his favorite thing in the world.
Woodcraft:
The left northern corner has piles of wood planks on the counter, with screwdrivers and hammers hanging on the wall. Older students can use their wands to carve into the wood. Many shapes are available; circular, rectangular, sticks with a flat side, and small squares. You can change their sizes too with the right spell.

Across the room from the other activities is a big desk with five chairs. On the wall above this desk is a very big board with four word search puzzles. Your job is to find the word listed under each puzzle and cross them over, once you finish a puzzle you can bring your work to the professor and he will have a nice something to say/do to you!
Keep in mind, however, that professor Botros might not be up to date with what kids these days find entertaining and endearing. ooc: <> The best way to post your answer is like the following:

Alyssa had read Professor Botros' task for their Ancient Runes homework assignment. She had never been in the workshop before, so she spent some time looking around, examining the claycraft and various wooden sealed boxes. She assumed that the clay contents were inside them. Then she walked over to another corner and noticed that there were various types of wood carved out in different shapes. 'Guess this must be the wood craft section to make our runes using wood.' Alyssa thought to herself.
She was about to return to the claycraft area when she noticed something written on the board. She had seen these before. There were word search puzzles. She liked doing them, even though they sometimes made her cross eyed. Alyssa decided that she would try solving them this term. But for now it was back to working on her task. She first pulled out her textbook and reviewed the runes trying to find one that would be specific to the person she wanted to give it to.
She read through the meanings of each and every one of them before making her final decision. She would carve the Rune Sowilo because it was the rune of guidance, goal setting and success. She would make her rune for Jory, since like her, he would be graduating from Hogwarts next year, and this rune would help guide him to decide what he wanted to pursue and achieve after he left school.

The badger began examining the clay and wooden crafts. Not only the colourfulness of the clay balls captured his attention but the puzzles. He loved puzzles. "I might do a couple of these soon,'' he thought.

Alyssa turned around when she heard someone enter the workshop and smiled when she saw that it was Jory. "Hey Jory. Yes I am. The homework is piling up and I want to try to get this finished as soon as possible." Alyssa told Jory before she turned and looked at the small wooden boxes containing the clay. "Eeny, meeny, miney, mo" Alyssa moved her finger around until she finished the rhyme and her finger landed on one wooden box.
She picked it up and removed the lid. "Cool I got yellow colored clay. I guess I'd better start working on making what I want before it starts to harden.' Alyssa thought to herself.
She picked up the clay ball. It felt like the clay she used to play with when she was a little girl. As she held the clay ball in her hand, Alyssa realized that she hadn't even decided what she wanted to make. She now regretted removing the cover of the lid, because once exposed to air, the clay ball would start to dry and harden. Alyssa quickly tossed around ideas in her head.
'What should I make for him...should I?.....no....how about?....what does he like?...."Alyssa knew that she had to make a decision fast, for time was running out for her clay ball. She knew that she could always toss this one out and pick another, but she didn't want to waste a good clay ball if she didn't need to. Then an idea sprang into her mind. It was like the light had 'turned on' in her brain.
Alyssa quickly molded the clay ball, brushing her hair away from her eyes as she worked quickly. She pinched and pulled and twisted the clay around, using the nail of her finger to carve out the design of her sculpture. She pulled the clay, molding them into five different points, and then sharpening the points with her finger tips. Once she was satisfied with it, she placed it on the work desk and allowed it to dry. She had just sculpted a small pocket sized star.

"Yup,'' Jory agreed. His homework pile wasn't getting any smaller either. After Alyssa had selected her clay, he went up to get his. "Hmm, which colour? Which colour?'' he muttered as he looked over the many clay balls. "Er maybe black and yellow?'' Yup, that would be it.
The Puffer had decided that he would make the the Eihwaz Rune's shape directly and not carve it into something. "I think I'll go for a pendant,'' he thought as he separated some of the yellow clay from the ball. "So Lyssa could wear it on a chain.'' If he didn't make it horribly, that is. Yes, he would go with that.
Carefully, Jory began to shape the clay into a thin, very long rectangular shape. that would be for the middle part of the rune.

Alyssa pulled out her textbook and turned to the page where the rune Sowilo was mentioned. She studied the symbol of the rune. It involved a slanting line, followed by a diagonal line, followed by another slanting line across that paralled the first slanting line.
Alyssa took out her wand and concentrating on the symbol of the rune, she said, "INTAGLIO...SOWILO...SOWILO...SOWILO" as she carved the symbol on to her sculpture. First she carved out the top line, then the diagonal line and then the other bottom line. Once Alyssa was done, she said,"Finite" ending the gouging spell. Alyssa then looked at the carving she had made on her sculpture. She frowned. Something looked different with the rune. Alyssa picked up her star and matched it side by side with her the symbol on the page in her textbook. She studied the symbol in her textbook again and realized her mistake. She had slanted the horizontal lines in the wrong direction. She had carved the rune Eihwaz instead of the rune Sowilo.
Alyssa sighed angry with herself. Not only had she carved out the wrong rune, she had ruined her sculpture. This meant that she would have to make another one again.

After setting aside the rectangular middle, Jory took a piece of the black clay. "This will be for the tips of the rune that will join to the yellow middle.'' He rolled out the clay before starting his attempt to make a smaller rectangle.
"No, no,'' he muttered. "This is too big.'' Sure enough it was, even though it was a tad bit smaller than the yellow one. But if the two were put together, it wouldn't look like the Rune's shape. The Puffer broke off a piece from that piece and tried again. He rolled it out once again and shaped it into a rectangle. Then he held it over the yellow rectangle. "Perfect!'' Now to make it's twin. Hopefully, that one will take shape faster because he needed to get this done before the clay hardened.

Alyssa sighed shaking her head as she walked to the wooden boxes on the table. She picked one and opened it. She looked in and was glad to see that it was another yellow ball of clay. She had wanted to give a yellow sculpture to Jory to remind him of the colors of their house Hufflepuff.
Picking up the clay ball in her hand, Alyssa began to mold her sculpture. Like she had done earlier, she pulled and shaped the clay to form five pointed edges. She sharpened the tips of the edges with her finger tips, and used her finger nails like she had done before to create the design inside. As she worked her clay, Alyssa sang along, as her star shaped sculpture began to form.
"You must be my Lucky Star

Alyssa continued to hum as she finished shaping her star sculpture. She had chosen to shape her clay ball into a star because she wanted Jory to know that she considered anyone from the House of Hufflepuff, a 'superstar', no matter what they did in the future. Once she was done sculpting her star, she placed it on the work desk and allowed it dry and harden.

Eliza walked quietly into the workshop, admiring the tools and materials as she went down an aisle to a desk. The smell of the wood filled her nose and made her smile. It smelled like a cabin. As she sat there, she closed her eyes and almost made herself believe she was at her grandparent's cabin now, drinking hot chocolate and listening to stories. But she knew she wasn't really, and shook off the slight sadness at the thought and carried on.
She was here for a reason, and though she was sorely tempted to do all of those puzzles right here and now instead, she knew she needed to focus on her homework first. Plus, she was making a clay rune for Daichi and giving her friend a gift was more important than her spending the day enjoying puzzles in solitude. Actually, it would be more fun if she could sit with someone else who was doing the puzzles too. Not that they would share, but just sitting quietly with someone was nice. Anyway, she reminded herself, What's a good rune for Daichi? She'd been thinking about using Purisaz because it sounded like it could help him get more confidence and better focus...but the more she read, the more it sounded like it would be a double-edged sword type rune. The book made it seem like a burden to carry and she didn't want that for him, so she kept looking.
Then she found it. Kenaz! That's perfect! It will give him courage against fear and anxiety, help him study and help with creativity if he wants it! She knew Daichi was afraid of things sometimes and got skittish, especially around fire she'd noticed. Interesting that it means torch...since he's afraid of fire, maybe this rune could help him with that too. She was pretty pleased with her choice. She only hoped that he would like it too.

Alyssa gently touched her sculpture with her finger to ensure that it had hardened. When she felt that the sculpture was dry enough and that her finger didn't leave a dent in it, she picked it up to examine it. Her sculpture was now ready for her to carve the rune Sowilo into it. Alyssa studied the symbol of the rune and memorized each and every stroke and in which directions each line was facing. She was determined not to make another mistake.
Keeping the image of the rune in her mind, Alyssa unholstered her wand and leaned over her sculpture. Concentrating on what the rune represented, she said, "INTAGLIO...SOWILO...SOWILO...SOWILO" as she began carving the first slanting line, followed by a diagonal line downwards and then the last slanting line. She blew the clay dust off her star sculpture and studied it.
Alyssa checked the symbol on her sculpture with the one in the textbook and breathed a sigh of relief when it matched. She had successfully carved the rune Sowilo onto her sculpture.
Alyssa looked up and saw that Jory was still busy making his rune, and not wanting to interrupt him, she decided that she would give him her gift later when she saw him again. She hoped that he would be alone when she did. She didn't want the other students to get the wrong impression.
She pocketed her sculpture before pointing her wand at her work area and cleaned it by using the scouring charm. Placing her textbook into her backpack, she slung it over her shoulder and exited the workshop.

Using the first black clay rectangle as a guide so as to attain the right length and width, Jory quickly shaped the second black rectangle. This time he had no trouble making this one. After comparing the two just to make sure they were shaped evenly, they were ready to be attached to the longer yellow rectangle.
The boy did this thatching the first black strip at the top and then second one at the bottom. "That looks right,'' he thought as he consulted his text and then looked back at the rune.
"Now to make the little hook so it can be hung on a chain,'' he muttered. He broke a small piece of clay from the black ball. He shaped it into a tiny circle which he then stuck onto the intersection where the top black and yellow rectangles met. "All done!'' Jory thought. It should harden in a while.
He looked around. There was a Ravenclaw girl there but no sign of Alyssa. He had been so wrapped up in his work, he hadn't realised she had left. "Ah well, I'll give it to her later.'' He got out his wand and cleaned up the area where he had worked. He grabbed his text and the clay Rune and left the Workshop.
A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.
Deciding to do his Ancient Runes homework, Daichi entered the workshop while looking around. It looked familiar though he had never been in here before. Maybe it was because his neighbor friend at home who is a muggle told him that he had crafting at school where he went to. Daichi had been a bit confused about his stories and how the room looked like but he never stopped him because it seemed that that subject was his friends favorite.
So now that he walked in this room, he was reminded by what his neighbour had told him and he smiled. So this was a crafting work area? pretty nice.
Spotting Alyssa and Jory , he gave decided not to say hi because they looked like they were busy working on their rune. At another table he found his partner and with a grin he stood in front of her on the other side of the big table. "Found a rune for me already?" he asked surprised.
Dropping his bag on the table, Daichi took his text book out of it and set it back down on the ground beside him. Opening the book, Daichi flipped through the pages until he was at the Aett section and began to read. He sometimes looked up at Eliza, trying to figure out which rune would be perfect for her ...but now that he read , he didn't really know THAT much about the girl. Yes, they were friends..atleast that was what he thought but they only met during classes and one time he had helped her with a spell.
Flipping the page again, Daichi's eyes found Dagaz and he began to read. It sounded like a really positive rune and the Slytherin decided to use that one.
Now that she had decided which rune to use, she had to pick the color of clay as well. Well it would only make sense for me to use yellow, since that's the color associated with Kenaz, right? Plus, Daichi likes ducks, so I can mold the clay into a duck shape. As best I can anyway. And hey, this can be what I give him for helping with the vanishing spell! Perfect. She got up from the desk, walked to the front of the room, and pick up a blob of yellow clay.
She returned to her workspace and started kneading the clay to soften it up a bit before trying to do any shaping with it. Should I add water to it? she wondered. No...I'm sure Professor Botros has this made up just the way it needs to be. She was focusing intently on her clay, mooshing it and pinching it with her fingers when she heard footsteps approaching her table.
"Hi there!" she greeted Daichi with a grin. "Yep I sure did," she replied brightly. I hope he likes it! She sort of wondered what he had chosen for her, he was making a rune for her too right? She didn't want to be too nosy, so she didn't ask. Which rune does he think relates to me, I wonder? She kept her guesses to herself as she continued to work the clay into a more pliable state, brushing her light coppery hair from her face every now and then as she did so.
Sarah had arrived in the work room. It was a good thing she had not walked into anything on the way as she was lost in thought. Who should she do, the top two friends that came to mind were Alexa and Penelope. Yet Penelope was hard to define, Alexa was much easier - she was such a Sowilo to Sarah. Always energetic and she gave energy to Sarah. Her ideas for Penelope were more like gebo - Penelope gives to Sarah, Wunjo - the happiness rune as Penelope makes Sarah happy and laguz which was the general rune for women.
Yet Alexa applied to all those too and besides Sarah had never given a gift to Alexa before. So Alexa it was, with the rune of the sun - Sowilo! Now that that was settled Sarah had time to examine the room. There was a word search that she just HAD to do. Yet not now as she had to make a rune for her friend

Yeah, Ella was really liking that particular class this term. It may or may not be due to the fact that Professor Botros made a pinky promise with her and let her smash things. Dude, THOR! How cool was that lesson? And now she had a really cool homework assignment to do because she, Ella, got to pick out a rune and make a gift out of it for a friend. Beam! This was going to be great.

This place was neat and the blonde was itching to get started only there was the small problem of deciding on which rune to make for Hulk. Yup, her Hulk was going to get a nice rune sculpture from Ells because a) the girl was her partner in investigating things b) they were going to be great wedding planners together and c) she understood important things like the need for ice cream and mean letters. Yup, Hulk was totally rune worthy.
Speaking of Hulk...she was coming to meet Ella here soon, yeah?
Pulling out her text book, the blonde started to flip through the pages in search of the perfect rune for her friend. Maybe it should be something about biting? Or...maybe a rune to make sure Hulk didn't break a tooth any time soon? Those pearly whites did seem to be mighty important to her. Gosh, there was a lot of stuff to think about.

Alice was very into Runes this term, you know? Of course, who wasn't? The professor had given her nickname, answered all of her questions, and made a ridiculously amazing class even more ridiculously amazing. Obviously, she was enticed beyond measure, and the fact that they got to do their homework with a friend and some clay.. well, that just added to the enjoyment, didn't it?
When she arrived at the workshop, though, she didn't get to work right away. She had to find her Ellasaurus first, yeah? It didn't take too long to find her friend, though, and as soon as Alice located her sitting at an empty table, she dropped into a seat next to her. "Hey, Ells." Grin. The best thing about being partners with her? The Hufflepuff came prepared, so she didn't have to. The fourth year peered over Ella's shoulder, carefully taking in all the runes that she was flipping through, page by page. Because.. well.. textbooks were loads of weight to carry around. Hmph.
"Have you chosen one for me yet?" Alice asked curiously as she continued staring at all of the choices. Which would suit Ella best, hmm? Something.. happy. Balanced and nice, just like her friend. Was there a rune like that? She watched closely as Ella turned the page, and, finally, her eyes landed on the perfect rune. Dagaz. Day. Happiness. Satisfaction. Harmony. Positive outcomes. THAT was an Ella rune, definitely, even if it did look hard to sculpt.
"I've found one!" What next?

Ancient Runes wasn't much of a pain anymore but homework was still homework and no matter what subject it was it most certainly was NOT fun....okay so maybe this would be a liiiiiiittle fun. She already had a rune in mind and a person.
While glancing through her text she had run into this one rune, gebō and she learned that it meant gift. That instantly reminded her of Sarah! The girl was always eager to give gifts to her friends and she saw life itself as a gift. Most things seemed to be a gift for the girl actually...
Yeah, so she'd go ahead and use that one.
Seemed legit.

Pick a friend. Easy, right? Mo had loads of... well, he had some friends, and he would have picked one, only he couldn't seem to FIND any of the friends he would have picked today. He had really high hopes that he would miraculously run into someone who was his friend or nearly his friend or a future best friend along the way.
Or else he'd make something for Ab-Bot, his soul brother from a different century mother. What was a rune that represented the good professor, hmm?
Mo lurked around the doorway to the workshop, checking to see if everyone in the room already had a friend. They did. He was going to have to be his own friend, or else come back again later. Was it seriously uncool to be one's own friend?
It seemed like it was, but Mo had always been a pretty terrible judge of cool. He just liked the stuff he liked and let West figure out the rest. Mo edged through the doorway until he was properly in the room, wondering if anyone noticed he was currently friendless.

SHOOT. Anya knew she forgot something when she walked into the Runes workshop and there were people working in twos. She was supposed to make something for someone.
Which... made sense now that she actually remembered what the assignment was.
Heh. She should probably learn to pay more attention to her homework assignments. But, of course, that wasn't going to happen.
Her eyes searched the room. She had friends, right?
OH! HAIIII MO! She walked up to the Ravenclaw and looped her arm through the Ravenclaw's. "Mo. Have I ever told you that I approve of your existence?" Because she did.
She also approved of his hair. Just saying.
"More important... have I ever told you that there's a rune that will probably remind me of you in the next two minutes?" Yup. Anya was going to make her rune for Mo. Now she just needed to figure out which rune represented having fantastic hair.

"Have you chosen one for me yet?" Alice asked curiously as she continued staring at all of the choices. Which would suit Ella best, hmm? Something.. happy. Balanced and nice, just like her friend. Was there a rune like that? She watched closely as Ella turned the page, and, finally, her eyes landed on the perfect rune. Dagaz. Day. Happiness. Satisfaction. Harmony. Positive outcomes. THAT was an Ella rune, definitely, even if it did look hard to sculpt.
"I've found one!" What next?
Ella was drumming her fingers on the table absently as she scanned through the runes and what they represented. She'd found a couple that seemed Hulk-appropriate but she still couldn't make up her mind. Meh. She was so horrible at making decisions! And speaking of her Hulk..."Hey!" BEAM! And maybe now that Alice was here her Hulk vibes would make it easier to choose a rune? Seemed legit.
"I've got a couple of options for you." The blonde said truthfully while she continued to debate which one to pick. At the moment she was torn between Algiz and Uruz. Algiz was all about protection and selfishly Ellasaurus wanted her Hulk to have this one because they were friends and she didn't want Hulk to get smashed back...y'know cause Karma and stuff. On the other hand, Uruz was associated with things like strength and courage and energy. That seemed really Alice-like to Ells as well. Hmmm.
Uhhhh....Uruz it was.
"I've got one too." She said after a couple of minutes, smiling up at her friend triumphantly. "Okay, so now we'll need to get our erm...tools and stuff, yeah?" Cause making sculptures called for clay and stuff to shape the clay? "Come on, let's go see what they have." And she motioned to the table where the colorful clay balls were.
A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.

Daichi watched as Eliza stood up grabbed a yellow clay. Wondering what shape she was going to make of it, Daichi leaned a bit forward while trying to guess it upside down. Mweh , he couldn't...yet.
With a sigh he looked back at his runes book and flipped the page. Yes he had wanted to use Dagaz at first but then his brown eyes found the description of Wunjo. Looking up at the second year, he nodded his head to comfirm that this was the rune. Reading which clay color he should use that was perfect for the rune, Daichi walked over to the corner of the room and picked the pink clay.
He wasn't fond of the color but that was maybe because he was a guy...a man...a manly man!..guy!
Walking back to the work table, Daichi placed the clay down and began to think of a shape. Remembering that his friend had been drawing in a sketchbook the first time they met at that winter wonderland event, the Slytherin thought that she might like to draw. Maybe he could try and make a little book? a sketchbook? that was cool right? for her..not him...cause he was allergic to books. Not really of course but he only read because he HAD to for class.
Yep! he decided on a little pocket sized sketchbook with the Wunjo sign~
"Which rune did you pick for me?" he suddenly asked as he was busy kneading the clay. "Or is it a secret until the end of the assignment?" he grinned while he flattened the clay before trying to make a square.

She approved of his existence? That was pretty nice, considering the alternative was that he'd never been born. Mo patted Anya's elbow and nodded along sagely. "I approve of yours too."
And now he had a partner. An older, pretty partner who seemed to already have a rune in mind for him, whereas Mo was only just coming to terms with the idea. A rune for Anya? What was the rune for gobsmacked?

She released Mo's arm and walked over to the nearest table. Then she plopped her textbook against the table with a small thud. She looked over her shoulder at him and smiled. "That's fine. As long as I get one." It would be like... a secret token of their friendship. And a grade. Which actually seemed sort of wrong. How does one grade friendship? She'd have to speak to the Professor about that.
Ahem. Anyway. She ran her finger down the list of runes before stopping at the one that looked like an X. "I pick... ... is that... gee-bow?" Possibly. It should be gazebo. That was a way more epic word.
"I'm going to call it gazebo." Yes. Yes she was. And... she choose it because an 'X' was super easy to draw... but she couldn't say that...
She quickly scanned the definition. "... and... I choose it because... it's a gift to you. Naturally it makes sense to give you a gift called 'gift'." Yup. Surely that made sense to a Ravenclaw.

Now that she had the rune all thought out it was time she got sculpting or carving or whatever it was that one did with runes. Looking over to where the supplies were she saw clumps of clay. Okay, so she knew where the material would come from. Next came finding out what the heck the rune looked like in the first place.
Right.
One step at a time though...
She walked over and got herself a good glop of clay that she could mess around with until she got the correct shape then walked back to her table and threw open her runes textbook. It took her a while of flipping through but she finally found the page she was looking for. "Aha!" Lex took a good long look at the page...it seemed simply enough. Just an 'X' really....
Time to get this thing started. She took the clay and began pressing it out against the table trying to get it as flay as possible while still giving it body. Going good so far. This wouldn't be too difficult.

Gazebo? OH. Gebo. Mo nodded over her explanation, although he also grinned a bit too, if unintentionally. Gebo was literally gift, but it also was sometimes KISSES. Pretty pretty Anya was giving him kisses. He continued grinning like an idiot, nodding along.
Did this count as kisses he could tell West about? No. No, probably not, but it still amused and pleased him.
And he couldn't NOT tell her. "It's also a sign of affection. Like how you put X in a letter to stand for a kiss." He fluttered his eyelashes at her playfully before turning his own attention to the runes. It was easy to tease about getting the gift of kisses, but Mo wanted to pick out the perfect rune for Anya. He didn't know her well, but she was always bright and happy and playful with him. What was the rune for that?
"I'm going to make you... Wunjo. It's a rune for joy, and you always seem to embrace life with both hands and I like that about you. But it should also keep you in harmony with life and those around you, and help you find luck..." In love, mostly, although he was suddenly embarrassed to say that. Luck in general was good, even if he and Queen Alice didn't believe in luck.
