Default The Practice Pitch

When not in use for games, the Quidditch Pitch is open for students to practice their Quidditch skills before attending team tryouts, and it's also open for students to practice their flying skills (make sure you get a broom from the Broomshed!) Note: There isn't any Quidditch equipment available for use nor is there any available in the Broomshed. Anyone who is wishing to use any Quidditch equipment must first get permission from Professor Vindictus and allow him to provide you with the equipment (it's locked up). Failure to abide by this simple and practical safety rule will result in the loss of 5 points per offence. Those who repeatedly break this rule can receive detention and/or lose posting privileges in this part of the school.

Once the Quidditch season officially begins, team captains can 'book the field' with Professor Vindictus for practice and non-team members can watch practices occur. When practices aren't in session, the pitch is open for flying practice.

Note: This thread is for IC role playing and not chatter. All SS rules apply in this thread.

There were a lot of things that Selina had missed since school had taken summer recess. Many of those things included the food at the school, seeing her friends everyday, the food, talking to her professors and learning new things, the food and most of all, the food. However, the one thing that she missed more than any of the previous things was the Pitch. She could fly at home all summer long as much as she wanted, but there was nothing that compared to actually getting to work with the pitch again. Besides, there was something oddly comforting about the untamed grass and the beaten up stands from Quidditch injuries. Maybe it was just Selina, but this was her favorite part of the castle.

Her sneakers dug into the pavement as she- with her broom in hand- ran down toward the Pitch. Quickly checking the try out sheets, Selina finally found herself in the center of the Pitch. The redhead threw her bag to the side, which held her wand and all of the other necessary things that she needed to carry around like her missing Mortimer posters, and drew her attention to her broom.

Flying always had been a great way to clear her head and given everything with Mortimer lately, she needed a good, old-fashioned fly. After all, the Pitch was always eerily quiet prior to Quidditch season starting. Which, as Quidditch Captain, should have concerned her. Shouldn't there be plenty of Gryffindors out here flying and getting ready for the season. On second thought, she was going to make an announcement about that later in the Common Room. People needed to take this stuff more seriously and also help her find her beater bat.

With that in mind, she mounted her broom and kicked off the grass. She had missed this.

After popping by the broomshed to pick out a decent school broom for Emmaleigh to use, Max led her onto the practice pitch, carrying his own Oakshaft 2010 in hand. He paused every now and then to press his foot against the grass, looking for a particularly spongy area for them to begin - just in case. Though, he had no intention of letting her fall. Nope. There would be none of that today.

"Here is good," he said finally, turning his gaze to meet hers. He smiled encouragingly and cleared his throat. "What would you like to work on first? Or... where do we need to start?" Did she know how to mount a broom? Could she kick off the ground? Did... they have to start at the VERY beginning?

That would be okay, of course. Max was just happy to help. And happy she was willing to LET him help.

Arabella-Marie walked down to the practice pitch may as well get some practice in seeing as she had totally missed tryouts and hoped that this would be good in setting her straight for her time in the professional league

As Emmaleigh walked along with Max, she tried to remain calm. She was so incredibly nervous about flying. Sure, he, made her want to learn, but that didn’t mean she wasn’t scared. After all, she had fallen off her broom, during the first flying lesson of the term; a fact she wasn’t going to bring up. She also felt really nervous and excited to be spending time with Max. It was, well, a strange feeling.

Carrying the broom Max had so expertly picked out for her, she noticed his brief stops. Were there better places to take off from than others? “Here,” she said giving a nod, and grasping the broom handle tighter. “Um,” She said with a bit of redness creeping into her face, “It always takes me along to get the broom to come up to my hand. Well, unless I yell at it.” Somehow it usually worked when she got good and mad at it.

The beginning wasn't a bad place to start. "Let's be honest right away - I rarely use the whole 'up!' thing to get the broom in my hand. I used to do it when I was first learning because I thought that's what you're supposed to do... but it's not really a necessary step, so don't worry too much about it, if you can't get it right away. No biggie." There was some truth to what he was saying, but he really just wanted her to calm down. He could sense her tension and nerves, and he wanted her to realize she would be just fine.

"I think flying... can be the kind of skill that comes from within. Like Transfiguration. You have to want to fly... and picture yourself flying... and believe you can fly. Does that make sense?" He rubbed at the back of his head with his hand before setting his own broomstick on the ground beside him. "I'm glad it works for you when you yell at it, but you might not have to get mad. Watch first," he suggested lightly, giving Emmaleigh a small smile. Then, he hovered a firm hand above the broom. "Be confident in your actions. Know you can do it. See the broom fly right into your hand before it actually happens." He closed his eyes calmly for just a moment, hoping Emmaleigh would take it as him visualizing the action, then looked down at the broom. "Up!" As the Oakshaft zipped upward to his hand, Max clasped his hand around it firmly.

Max smiled softly up at Emmaleigh once again and noted, "This broom and I have been with each other for a few years, so don't be discouraged by the fact that it came right to me." Still noting her jittery demeanor, he added, "And just... relax, okay? This is just for fun. No pressure involved. Clear your thoughts of doubts and just let the broom come to you. Even if it takes more than one time, try to be patient - you can do this, Em. I believe in you. Relax."

So the whole up thing isn’t really important? That was strange considering both Vindictus and Atticus started with that. She was glad to hear it though, seeing as her failure at doing such a simple task always left her frazzled. She nodded as she listened to him, feeling some of her tension ease.

“Like Transfiguration.” She repeated, thinking about all that meant. Want, picture, believe. “Yeah, I think so.” As he commented on her getting angry with the broom, even more redness appeared on her face. It was just a little bit embarrassing. The girl bit her lip as she watched intently as Max demonstrated the action. He made it look so easy, there had been none of that wobbling, only coming up part way bit.

Em looked the boy, tinges of fear still evident in her eyes, but she nodded. Relax, that bit she knew. And hearing Max tell her she could do it, and that he believed in her made her toes curl in her boots. It didn’t exactly calm her down, but it did make her less scared.

Tossing her bag to the ground a little ways behind them, she then gently set the broom to her left. Straightening, she opened and closed her left hand a few times. “I can do this.” She said to herself as she closed her eyes. She tried to shut everything out. It was just her and this broom. Transfiguration, she could do that. She concentrated on the broom, picturing it rising to meet her hand. Slowly placing her hand out above it, the girl opened her eyes said “Up,” as confidently as she could. She watched as the broom slowly rose to meet her hand. Grabbing hold of it, she grinned and looked at Max. “I did it!” Sure it hadn’t raced to her hand like Max’s had, but she had it in her hand, on the first try no less.

Grabbing hold of it, she grinned and looked at Max. “I did it!” Sure it hadn’t raced to her hand like Max’s had, but she had it in her hand, on the first try no less.

After Max had caught his own broom, he twisted it vertically and let one end rest on the ground, holding it up next to him with his hand. He took a few steps back, letting Emmaleigh have space to think and relax properly. A smile playing on his lips, Max observed as Emmaleigh closed her eyes, just like he had. She was cute, he thought, and for a fraction of a second he worried she wasn't going to be able to do it - then she might get angry at MAX.

But within the next few seconds, she commanded the broom upward, and... sure enough, up it went - not quite as swiftly as it would with practice, but for her first try when she said she had so much trouble with it in the past... "Excellent, Em! That was great!" He raised his free hand to give her a high-five.

Perhaps this would be easier than she seemed to think it was going to be.

"That was good. Really, really good - I like your hat, by the way - and you can practice that a few more times, if you'd like." But it would suffice just fine. The broom was in her hand, and that's all that really mattered. He was anxious to get her on the broom and in the air. That would be the fun part.

Max moved so that there was less than a foot between himself and Emmaleigh. For their next steps, he wanted to make sure she felt safe. If she felt safe, hopefully she would relax. And if she relaxed, maybe she would continue to get the hang of things. None of this was for a grade or a silly class - it was just for fun and general knowledge. No pressure, Em, he told her silently.

He gracefully twisted his broomstick around and mounted it. "Next, we'll mount the broomstick." That should be easy enough, right? She could do that one? "This is pretty simple, of course. Just... make sure to have a firm grasp on the handle, but don't tense up or... freak out or anything," he joked softly. He took another moment to make sure Emmaleigh still seemed fairly calm - though he was certain she was quite nervous - and cleared his throat, quite nervous himself.

"All we're going to do now is kick off lightly and rise a few feet above the pitch. We don't need to kick too hard, just... a nice, swift movement of your foot down," he demonstrated, rising a mere two feet above the ground. "And to come back down, just lean forward ever so slightly..." he landed right next to her, "...and you should just touch back down. I'll stay right beside you all along - I'll either stay on the ground right here if you want me to, or I'll go up and down with you. Whichever would make you most comfortable."

He hoped she didn't feel like he was babying her, but he would rather 'baby' her than make her feel unsafe. And he felt quite responsible for both her safety and happiness right now.

The girl grinned, and gave Max a solid high-five. “It’s never worked like that before,” She said beaming.

He liked her hat? “Thanks,” she said blushing. She placed the broom back on the ground, “Sure, maybe I can get it to come up a little faster.” She could do this. She knew she could do this. Max knew she could do this. Concentrating on the thought of the broom arriving in her hand, she said “Up,” and watched as the broom moved up to her hand again, though she couldn’t tell if it was any faster. Setting it back down once more, she centered herself, and though of the broom, and how it would be faster. “Up,” she said, and the broom floated to her faster than before. “I think that’ll be good for now.” It still wasn’t very fast, but it was an improvement.

When Max moved closer, she instinctively inched a little closer to him as well. It just felt not so scary there. She watched as he mounted his broom. He made it look so easy, but then again, he probably wasn’t as clumsy as she was. “Right,” she said, giving him a small smile. “Don’t freak out.” Biting her lip, she tried copying the way Max had mounted his broom. She wasn’t nearly as graceful as he was, but she did managed to mount it without falling over.

Smiling, she looked over at the boy again, waiting for the next bit of instructions. As he kicked off the ground, she carefully watched him as he rose and landed once more. “I think staying on the ground?” she said, more or less asking if he felt that was best. “That way I can’t knock us both over.”

She had decided in Flying lessons that it felt better with her left hand on top, so she switched her hands around. Wiggling her fingers a bit, she swallowed, trying to remain calm. Giving a little kick, she unsteadily rose just off the ground and floated for a little bit before leaning forward to bring her broom back down again. “Again?” she asked, Before kicking off again. This time she rose just a little bit higher, right around two feet off the ground. This time when she leaned forward to land, she shot forward instead. “Help,” she squeaked as she gripped the broomstick tighter.

As Emmaleigh tried to summon the broom to her hand a few more times, Max watched with interest, digging one hand into his pocket. When she seemed satisfied with her progress and turned to him, he gave her a pleased smile. "See? You're practically a professional now." GRIN. Though what he said wasn't necessarily true, he DID mean it. He thought she was progressing wonderfully.

Upon her request that he stay on the ground, Max gave a shrug and replied, "Whatever seems best for you." Grasping his broomstick with one hand, his other hand drifted near Emmaleigh's back, ready to steady her if she needed the assistance. Then she went up, and right back down - all without his help. "Beautiful." She was. When she went to do it again, Max smiled once again, happy to see that she seemed comfortable enough to go a little higher off the ground the second time.

Until... she leaned forward too much and shot straight ahead. Whoops.

Instinctively taking off right after her, Max caught up to the Hufflepuff within seconds. He flew alongside her, took hold of her arm, and called to her, "Relax, I've got you - don't lean forward - carefully lean back and pull the handle upward to slow down!" Not sure of whether or not she would be in a calm enough state of mind to comprehend what he was saying, Max sped up just enough to grasp one of her hands and help her slowly guide the end of the stick upward, just enough, and did the same with his own broom to slow the both of them down.

Not sure of whether or not she would be in a calm enough state of mind to comprehend what he was saying, Max sped up just enough to grasp one of her hands and help her slowly guide the end of the stick upward, just enough, and did the same with his own broom to slow the both of them down.

Though she wasn’t moving that fast, she was going faster than she had gone before. But this wasn’t supposed to be happening. She was supposed to be landing, not moving forward. Fear coursed through her, but in an instant, Max was beside her. She wanted to reach out to him, knowing he would keep her safe; but she remembered Vindictus’ words in class, so she didn’t dare. Trying to do as he said, she started leaning back. The broom was just starting to slow down just a bit as the boy grabbed hold of her hand, slowed her down to a stop. She just sat there floating next to him, face pale, knuckles white. “I j-just don’t know w-what went wrong.” Though, it probably had to do with what he had said right before she kicked off the second time.

"Shhh," was the first thing Max said, shaking his head. "It's okay. You're fine. See?" He gestured to the fact that she was still in one piece and currently hovering in the air. "You did a good job of staying on the broom. I think... you probably just leaned too far forward. To land, you want to very gently lean the broom forward in a small motion - not lean forward all together. It's okay, though. No harm done. I'm here."

Max gave her another encouraging smile. Well, as long as they were already airborne... "While we're already in flight, d'you... want to continue along? Slowly this time, perhaps, with just a small lean forward on the broom? We could just coast this level above the ground for awhile till you feel comfortable? Or... d'you want to be done for today?" He would understand if she wanted to quit, but he truly hoped she would want to press forward; she was showing so much potential. After all, she hadn't fallen off the broom. That was improvement, by the sound of it.

Emmaleigh carefully wiped her cheeks on her shoulder, trying to remove any tears that may have fallen down her face. Fingers still tightly grasping the broomstick, she asked, “I-I am?” before realizing she actually was okay. Terrified, but fine. The Em nodded as she listened to Max as he explained what happened. A small smile came to her face “I’m glad you’re here.” She was thankful for his fast reflexes, and for his ability to calm her down. It would've probably been another crash landing if he wasn't the one here with her, and she knew it.

She bit her lip as he asked her what she wanted to do now. “I think we can continue,” She said, giving a nod. What she really, really wanted was to have solid ground beneath her feet, but she was determined to do this. If she was going to give up this easily, she would have never made it back on a broom after her last flying lesson. At least this time she had stayed on her broom. “Just stay close, okay.” She said, almost pleading.

"So, what now?" she asked, trying to sound confident and brave.

I'm glad you're here. Max looked away after the words left her mouth and tried to force the goofy smile off his face. He couldn't hide it, though, and he resorted to talking through it to cover it up, "It's my pleasure. I'm glad I can help."

He nodded as she agreed to continue. She was quite brave and persistent - very admirable traits. "I won't leave your side," he agreed with yet another smile, and leaned forward ever so slightly, gliding a few feet above the ground alongside Emmaleigh. Though he couldn't precisely pinpoint the reason why, he felt his face growing hot as they flew together in silence.

Silence was bad. And luckily, she broke it with a question. What next? "Well, if you feel confident flying like this... we can work on turns? You don't have to go higher than this - we'll just turn in one direction. It's really simple - just push the broom handle to the left and you'll turn left, broom handle to the right, turn right." She probably knew that, but it would probably be smart to make sure she could turn before they reached the other end of the pitch, which they were gradually nearing.

"How 'bout we go right? We'll just go in a nice big arc... and go back the way we came. A nice, smooth, 180 turn. Got it? I'll be right by you this whole way. Don't worry." He started to make a right turn from Emmaleigh's right side, staying close to her to make sure she wouldn't tumble off. He was ready to catch her, if needed. But they were going fairly slow, so... maybe she would be just fine?

She couldn’t help but notice Max acting all weird, but when he spoke, she shook her head. “Help?” she said, frowning a little. “I think you did more than help.” Rescued, saved, they seemed like a more appropriate words.

As she flew along beside the boy in silence, Emmaleigh tried her best to concentrate on flying, but found her mind kept wandering to one word. One word that was said right before she accidentally shot off on her own. She was pulled from the thoughts when he answered her earlier question.

Well, she didn’t actually feel confident, but she nodded. “Okay, turns.” She realized that if they didn’t turn soon, they would fly right off of the pitch.

“Right, sounds good.” She said, glad Max said he would stay near her. Carefully pushing her broomstick a little to the right, she started her turn. Noticing she was turning too wide, she wobbled a bit on her broom, but managed to correct herself. “That was a close one,” she said still trying to stop wobbling. At least she was staying relatively calm.

More than help? Max shook his head as she said it, completely deflecting her statement. "Nah. You were totally in control. You were fine." Right? Mostly? At the most, she might've had a few bruises. She was close enough to the ground that the fall wouldn't have been TOO rough, but... well, he supposed her speed would've made the impact a little harsh. Ah, well. No need to worry about that. She was totally fine, and Max found himself smiling at her as he found he was quite grateful for her safety.

If she got hurt out here because of him, he would never forgive himself.

Max made a tight turn to allow Emmaleigh to cut as close of a turn as she needed, but he stayed close enough that if she started to fall, he would be able to steady her. "Good, good, you're doing just fine..." he encouraged softly, one hand in the air between them as they turned in case she needed support. When she wobbled, he moved to grab her arm - but she steadied herself just fine, all on her own. "That was good, Em. See? You don't even need me out here. You're doing great." That didn't mean he was going to leave her, though, and he very casually widened his own arc so he was closer to her, a very subtle statement that he wasn't going to leave her.

Once they straightened back out and were heading for the other end of the pitch again, Max said, "Great! That was good. So there was a nice big turn... d'you want to try it again? You can try a sharper turn this time - maybe you could go in a circle around me and work on balancing well through the turns." Her wobble on the big turn made him nervous. "And the circle around me is so I can offer a hand or something if you need help steadying yourself." Or if he needed to completely catch her. Either way, he was going to be there for her.

"Got it? You can go in as fast or slow of a circle as you'd like - don't worry about hitting me, I can move if you turn too sharply - but we need to get you comfortable with your turns and balancing well through them. Now when I count down to one, I'm going to slow down, and I want you to very gently make a right turn and circle around me. I'll turn with you as you go, so if you start to feel wobbly, just reach out and I'll help you, okay?" Unless, of course, she started to fall the other way, which would be... bizarre. But his left hand was already off the broom and extended between them. "You can either continue to circle if you want to try out different speeds, or a bigger or smaller circle," they were nearing the center of the pitch again, "but just take it easy and be comfortable with the way the broom and your body move together, all right? Ready? Just a nice, smooth circle around... No big deal... Three, two, one..." He began to slow down, his hand still extended between them, ready to slowly spin on the spot when she went around him.

“Y-yes I do.” She said wobbling some more. She needed him here. She wasn’t entirely sure why, but she felt like she couldn’t do this without him. She didn’t know if it was his encouragement, is advice, or how she didn’t seem as scared when he was flying close to her.

She nodded. A sharper turn did sound like a good idea, though she wasn’t sure about circling around him. She was getting ready to say so when Max said it was so he could help if needed. That sounded better, but it did mean it would be a very tight circle. Gulp.

I got it,” she said, after listening to his instructions. She waited nervously for his count down. “Move together?” she asked It seemed more like she was always fighting against the broom. Three, two, one. It was time to turn. Emmaleigh slowly forced the broom into the turn, continuing to wobble a bit.

Much like her earlier turn, the circle ended up being much wider than she had intended. Pushing the broomstick further to the right, she made a tighter circle. After a few slow passes, she found she wasn’t really wobbling. “I think I might be getting this,” she said, as she leaned forward a little bit more on the broom. Amazingly, she was able to maintain her balance at this speed, so she decided to go faster. She leaned forward too much, and the speed surprised her. It made her wobble again, but it was worse this time.

Aw. Even though Max knew she would be just fine, the fact that she THOUGHT she needed him... was enough to bring redness back to his cheeks. He needed her, too - she was keeping his seventh year full of fun and... just utterly joyful - and he considered saying so. He decided against it, of course.

The only other person who had ever made him feel so elated was Ellie.

But, to his knowledge, Emmaleigh wasn't seeing anyone. Wait... he had never asked, though. Oh. What if she was in a relationship? Was this was going to be another Eli/Ellie kind of situation, where some guy was going to come along and 'claim' Emmaleigh for himself? Would Max not be able to spend so much time with her, then?

As she began to increase her speed while circling around him, Max snapped out of his thoughts. She was... actually doing really well! "You're doing great!" he encouraged, his hand still being offered between them. "I think so, too." Just as he agreed, she began to wobble, and he continued to spin as she circled - but he grabbed a firm hold of her arm to steady her. "Relax, relax," he tried to soothe hurriedly, but with the speed she was going, it looked like she wasn't going to be able to recover nicely. So, in the spur of the moment, Max did what any chivalrous man would do.

"You're okay - hold onto the broom - lean back a bit and try to lift up a little to slow down." As he gave instructions, he tugged her arm toward him, directing her circling path as close to him as he could while he spun, and he put an arm around her back, holding onto her waist to keep her from tipping over. "I've got you."

Even though they were only a few feet above the ground, there was no way he was letting her go down without a fight. If she went down, he was going with her.

And now they were very, very close together. Circling above the ground. On brooms.

Relax? How could she relax? All she could do was grip the broom tighter, and hope she wouldn’t tip over. Even Max holding on to her arm didn’t help calm her down. She was wobbling so bad, she feared she would bring him down with her when she fell.

She couldn’t make herself lean back, every time she even tried, she wobbled some more. No, instead, she found herself drawing closer to the broomstick with each wobble. When Max tugged on her arm, it made her lean over too far, and she almost tipped over. Wishing she had peril sensitive sunglasses, She shut her eyes tightly in preparation for the fall. Luckily, when Max wrapped his arm around her, it straightened her a bit, and kept her from tumbling over.

Well, for the moment anyways. They were too close now, in what felt like an endless circle when she felt herself tipping towards the boy again. Trying to straighten up, she over corrected, jerking the broom out of the spiral. This sudden change in direction sent her over the other side of the broom, away from Max. A fall was now inevitable, and if the boy was he’d let her go and save himself.

No no no no NO NO, "NO!"

Why had she leaned the OTHER way? They had been doing just fine! EMMALEIGH.

As Em toppled over the other side of the broom, Max leaned with her body and dove after her, his one arm still latched behind her and the other reaching across her stomach in an attempt to hold her back for a fraction of a second to help break her fall. In the process, his own broom launched forward to land horizontally with a nice thump! in the grass. That sound couldn't be heard over the quick thump! of Max and Emmaleigh hitting the grass together, though, his arms still around her.

The fall hadn't been that big of a deal. They had fallen from, what, three or four feet above the ground? But considering the expression on Max's face, one would have thought they had just plummeted from the top of a five story building. He looked pale and GUILTY. "Are you okay?!"

She heard Max yell, and felt him envelop her in his arms, just before they hit the ground. She lay there a moment, with her eyes closed, wondering why he didn’t just let her go. When she heard him ask if she was alright, she opened her eyes and nodded. “Yeah, I think so, “ she said, trying to untangle herself a bit to see him, “How about you?” she asked. When he came into view, and she saw his expression, her eyes widened, in fear. Pulling herself further out of his embrace, she forced herself to sit up. It was only then, that she noticed just how dizzy she was. It must have been from all those circles. She leaned over the boy a bit with a worried expression, “Y-you didn’t break anything did you?” It hadn’t been that hard of a landing, but with his arm around her, she could have forced it to land awkwardly.

Whew. Good. She was all right. Or at least she THOUGHT so, and that was good enough for the time being. Max let himself relax. "Oh, I'm fine. I've taken worse tumbles than that." He managed to smile a bit and release her. He sat up, ran his hands down his arms and legs, and shook his head. Nothing broken. "No, no - I'm good. What about you?"

Just as he asked, he noticed how dizzy he was and lowered his upper body back down to the grass. "Dizzy," he laughed, removing the beanie from his head and running a hand through his hair. He blinked a few times up at the sky then closed his eyes, trying to relieve the spinning sensation in his head. Still laughing, he suggested, "Maybe the circles were a bad idea. My fault. I'm sorry."

She breathed a silent thank you when found out she hadn’t broken him. Though, she wasn’t very please to learn he had had worse falls. she had fallen, and been thrown from enough horses to know just how dangerous and painful falls could be. She started shaking her head until she realized it wasn’t helping her spinning head. Instead, she answered, “No, everything seems to be in one piece.”

When Max laughed, she finally let herself smile. “Me too,” she said, laying down close beside him. Letting out a sigh, she relaxed a bit. “I’m sorry for ruining everything by being such a klutz.” She said looking over to him. “And I’m glad you didn’t get hurt on account of me.” If he had, she would have been so angry with him. It was foolish of him to not let her fall on her own, but she had to admit, it was comforting knowing he was there.

Excellent. She was alive, in one piece, and he was... living. Just very, very happy to be living at the present moment. "That's good." And it WAS.

As she laid next to him on the pitch, he found himself smiling up at the sky. But when she apologized to him, he turned his head quickly, frowning. "No. You didn't ruin anything. Never apologize," he said sternly, shaking his head. "...You were great." Cue genuine, cheesy smile. "I was far more worried about you getting hurt than I was about myself."

He tilted his head forward so he could look down at her hand between them. He took it in his hand and shook it to emphasize various words in his encouragement, "Em-ma-leeeigh." Lots of hand-shaking, as if that would somehow make her see the light. "I think you were a lot better than you think you were. I mean, let's think about this. You... got the broom to come right up to you. After a few more tries, it went even faster, didn't it?" He smiled, looking from her bright eyes to the sky. "Then... you mounted the broom and kicked off just fine. And you flew in a nice straight line. You even managed to stay on it while going really, really fast. So no real problems, yeah? And... you made good turns. It was just... y'know, the last. Too fast for now. But don't you feel like you did a lot today?" Maybe? Even a little?

"I don't think you're a klutz." Just a little unexperienced was all. He released her hand finally - he had just realized he was still holding it, and he almost tossed it aside as if he had been caught doing something he wasn't supposed to.

She frowned, There was no way her flying today could be considered great. She was a terrified mess, who couldn’t fly more than a couple of feet off the ground, and even then it was wobbly and slow. Wait, what did he just say? “You were worried about me?” Her cheeks grew red. “Why?” Before she could stop herself, the question was out there.

Em looked at Max as he went over all the things she had done over the last hour or so. She found herself nodding a few times, and then looking down at the hand he was holding. It felt, well, she wasn’t sure how it made her feel. Good seemed like too simple a word. “I guess It doesn’t sound so bad when you put it that way, but you forgot about how scared I was, and about how much I wobbled.” And about how she had made them both fall to the ground. But she nodded again. “Anything I accomplished today was because you’re a good teacher.” She said, looking over at him again.

His last statement made her smile. “But I am a klutz. I’m always falling and tripping, and running into things.” The first aid kit she carried everywhere wasn’t actually to help others, it was for her own use.
