Once you've made your entrance, you can choose which table to sit at from the wide central walk space running up to the staff dias. At the start of term, the floor is so shiny that you can see your own appearance; with the kind of foot traffic this hall sees, though, who knows what it will look like by term's end!
She nodded at the groundskeeper...but...how did one..decorate a tree? Elliot eyed it suspiciously for a few minutes....and decided that she might try to slip awaaaay...quietly, shhh.
But as soon as she got the guts to do it, she heard Jayden. OH THANK MERLIN! She never thought she would be soooo happy to see one of her best friends...MERLIN!
"Jayden...I'm coming to help you...you look like you know what you're doing..." because clearly Elliot didn't ever decorate trees. That was for her mother...and her house elf.
And, for the record, she was ignoring Minnie.
"Of course I know what I'm doing, Elliot..." Jayden laughed, smiling as she patted Elliot on the head playfully. "Who doesn't know how to decorate a Christmas tree? It's like.... a family tradition..." She added lamely, raising her wand as she levitated the tinsel and motioned it so that the tinsel wrapped all the way around and up to the top of the tree.
"So... tell me! How are things?" Jayden asked, handing Elliot a pair of blue and silver ornaments...

"Thanks, sir. I'll get right on it!" Jayden called from behind her shoulder as she skipped down the hallway with tinsel in hand.
Mom says I have no sense of direction, so I packed my bags and right.
Oakey was passing by the Great Hall head down and in deep thought. He lifted it up slightly and turned his attention when he heard a lot of noise coming from within the Hall. Oakey poked himself in and saw twelve tree's slowly being decorated.
Oakey hadn't decorated a Christmas tree in a long time not since...no, he shouldn't think of that not now. Not when the Holiday's were right around the corner.
He walked up to Mr. Gibbins and gave the man a nice smile. "Hello again Mr. Gibbins."
He looked around at each of the boxes holding hundreds of decorations. One box in particular caught his eye. They widened with joy, that he never thought he would feel this month. At least not until Christmas morning. Oakey hurried over to the box and grabbed a star. "I CALL DIBS ON TOPPING ONE OF THE TREES!"
Proving he was a man could wait! Decorating Christmas Tree's had to be done as childishly as possible.

Elliot took out her wand, watching Jayden closely...it looked quite easy. Hmm. She cast the levitating spell at some red tinsel and tried to make it look neat and tidy on the tree. IN fact, it was so neat and tidy that...it didn't look good.
"ugh..I'm not good at this..." she grumbled, and she went up to the tree physically and tried her best to make it look...messy. Uh huh. "Things are good...I'm going out with Maxwell Lupin...do you know him? He's a Gryffindor...I would have told you sooner, but you've been SOOO busy.." she rolled her eyes, her voice thick with sarcasm.
She stepped back, examining her work...eehhh. She glanced Jayden..."how much tinsel do we want?" because...Elliot didn't want too much. "Hey...you think we can decorate it...with..LACE?!?" she asked, cackling because she KNEW Jayden would make fun of her for it!
SPOILER!!: Oakkk

As for the twelve christmas trees, Seb shrugged his shoulders. "Just following tradition. There has always been twelve christmas trees in the Great Hall for as long as I can remember."
Blushing a little when the man lowered his voice, Kurumi nodded shyly. "I'll do my best." Really...what could possibly go wrong? Wait, no, Kurumi didn't want to let her imagination get carried away with her and this. Domino effect with trees...trees accidentally getting set on fire...someone poking someone's eye out...poking their own eye out...
Oh, there had been? "I...never noticed before," Kurumi replied, cheeks flushing even more now. She wasn't the sort to count things out of curiosity and Christmas was still sort of a foreign concept to her. Something that had only become a 'thing' of sorts until she had come to London.
Nodding one more time towards the Groundskeeper Kurumi made her way towards one of the trees that didn't have anyone working on it just yet.

Setting her bag on the ground, Kurumi was just about to select an ornament to put on the tree when Sierra nearly ran into her. Kurumi froze for a moment, expecting the Slytherin to snap at her for getting in her way only to find that Sierra was apologizing.
"No problem," Kurumi replied, biting her lip as she reached for a red and white star shaped ornanment when Sierra was asking her a question. And a really difficult one at that. "I...didn't," Kurumi replied softly as she placed the ornament up on the tree. "I mean...there is no way to handle that...knowing..." Kurumi stopped, her fingers still holding onto the fragile ornament despite it being on the tree's branch. This was sort of odd, her and Sierra having this sort of heart to heart right here in the middle of the Great Hall. Thankfully they were off to the side a bit so people couldn't overhear. Kurumi just never expected they would be talking like this. "Sierra, you saw what my family was like. How my mother was terrified to so much as even look at me because of what I am...I don't have the connection you do..." Shee grabbed another random ornament to just have something to do with her hands. "I spent most of the time she was still alive wondering if I even had the right to be sad...since all I ever was was a disappointment to her." She randomly placed the ornament and then took another. "You have a lot to keep building on, even now. A lot to look back on and remember. A lot of happiness." Which also meant that Sierra had a lot to lose as well. "The worst for me...were the nightmares...still are actually..."
She took a glance back towards her bag. She had thought about just leaving it outside the Slytherin common room for Sierra to find, but now seemed like the opportune moment. Especially after hearing about Sierra's dreams in classes and, well, the fact that Sierra had brought it up now. "Actually...I have something for you...if you'll accept it that is," she whispered as she unzipped her bag and pulled out something no bigger than the size of the palm of one's hand that she then discretely handed to the sixth year. "It...it isn't much...but I used something similar to help me sleep at night...and still does."

"Okay! Thanks!" She said to the groundskeeper, for no reason in particular, as she ran over to the box of decorations, puffing up some tinsel and some ornaments, which she would put towards the bottom of the tree.
She took it all back to her tree, and sat her supplies down by her feet. This was going to be so much fun!!!!!!!!! Cardigan picked up a long piece of tinsel, and started to wrap it around the tree. Maybe, someone would like to help her....
Sutton waas heading back down to the common room from arithmancy when she saw QUITE a fuss going on. Peeking in, she practically squealed in excitement! CHRISTMAS TREES!!!
Running up to the girl closest to the door who didn't look like she had anyone help her, she said, "Hi! I'm Sutton! Could I help you, maybe?" These things were better with help. She discarded the outer layers of her uniform to more easily move around the tre. Wow! This one was definitely a beauty!

And just like that!!!
It was like she read Cardigan's mind!! She was ecastic. She was never the one to really believe in psychic powers, but then again...
Well of course you can help!!! "Hi Sutton! I'm Cardigan," She said, smiling sweetly. This girl seemed nice enough! That was good. She couldn't really work that well with people who were not "enthusiastic", or were rude and annoying*eyes Ariana*. It distracted her.
Thankfully, Sutton didn't seem to be any of them!
"Of course you can! Could ya grab the other end of this tinsel so we can wrap it around the tree?" Cardigan asked, holding out the other end to her. She had eventually given up on wrapping it around by herself. It was just too hard for one, short-armed person.
Elliot took out her wand, watching Jayden closely...it looked quite easy. Hmm. She cast the levitating spell at some red tinsel and tried to make it look neat and tidy on the tree. IN fact, it was so neat and tidy that...it didn't look good.

Elliot Morganzo... THE Elliot Morganzo... Elliot the scary and undateable... was GOING OUT WITH SOMEONE?!?!?! Jayden's jaw dropped, her blue eyes widening in awe. "So... someone finally cracked your hard shell. I must meet this brave gentleman!" She replied finally, after taking a few moments to recover. "Well then. I suppose I must admit something too. I'm dating... well... HAVE BEEN dating Jared Hunger. I'm sure you remember him? The fifth year snake?"
And then Elliot cracked a joke. A real live JOKE.
"Merlin's pants! Are you sick?" Jayden teased, feigning mock worry. "I mean, you're dating and now you're making lace jokes? What in Merlin's socks is going on with you Elliot?"
Now Jayden was really starting to worry. She had never seen a happy go lucky Elliot. This was a whole new playing field. "Lace? Sure. Why not!" Jayden giggled. With a flick of her wand she had changed some old candy wrappers she had found in her pockets into small lace ribbon. "Wanna put it on the tree?" She asked, smirking triumphantly at Elliot.
Who woulda thunk it? Transfiguration was good for something. Kinda.

Elliot scowled, flipping her blonde hair behind her. "He didn't crack my shell...I don't have a shell..this is how I am, naturally, Fishface," she said, smirking. Hmm. Elliot didn't feel nicer...she just felt in a better mood...all of the time. Because of Maxwell.
"But I kind of knew that, remember?" Yeah...from the feast. Jared...the cute Slytherin boy...who seemed decent enough for her friend.
At Jayden's next comment, she chuckled. "I'm not sick...I'm just happy," she aid with a shrug. "But don't get used to this...you've caught me on a good day..." she took some of the bows and began to manually tie them to the tree...LACE EVERYWHEREEE! "And yeah, we may need a bit more lace than this, Jayden..Merlin, this is Elliot Morganzo's tree...not some stupid other person's tree..." she said sharply, but a smirk crept onto her face.

She smirked and raised an eyebrow at him.."And so what if I was, Jared?" she asked coolly, but she was only messing with him. "I'm great, really, though this tree stuff is getting --"
WHAT?!
"Yeah...I did.." she said, glaring at him..a bit.

eerrgghh.
She shot a look at Jayden before tying some more pretty lacy bows to the tree...it was starting to look reeeaally good. Must have been the lace.

Sierra hadn't expected such a casual, polite reply. For some reason, she'd build herself up to believe he'd just give her this disappointed glance. She even hesitated for a split second, blinked, and then came to.
"Oh, right...," she said. Help out. She could do that. Throw decorations up and hope for the best? "Where do you come from?" she asked. The forest? She looked over at the box of decorations and said, "Well, these look good. I'll get a start on this empty tree here."
"I come from a commune in Australia." And if his daughter has anything to do with it, not for much longer. "We just kinda go with the flow, you know?" Actually she probably didn't. Seb, figured that Sierra was a pureblood and probably wouldn't get a lot of muggle things. He gave her another smile and nodded in approval for her help.

Turning back to the tree she grabbed some more decorations and started handing them, "Is there house decorations? Like badgers, snakes, lions, and eagles? It would be fun to decorate one tree with house decorations." Yes that would be great.
Seb continued to raise an eyebrow but said nothing, he could tell there was something wrong but if she didn't want to say then there wasn't much he could do. He didn't quite have his daughter's flair for getting people to open up. So instead he answered her question. "Very excited. Christmas is my favourite time of year. House decorations? "Er...I don't know if there are decorations for each house. We could probably make some though."

Minerva smiled at the groundskeeper he was always so nice. She gave a small laugh, "Yes I love Christmas. December always was my favorite month. It was always just fun to have all the family coming and going to celebrate my birthday as well as the holidays. I miss decorating the tree with my parents. I'm not even sure if my grandparents will put up a tree." she frowned a bit, "I'm actually staying here over the holidays this year. It will be the first time ever, but I didn't want to make my grandparents feel since I had to live with them that they had to do all the family holiday stuff if they really didn't want to." She shrugged and went back to humming jingle bells as she put the last of the bulbs she had for her tree on.
Turning she wondered..make house decorations, that sounded fun, but how could she make them. She loved the idea of spirit in her own house, but she was also tired of some people**glare at Elliot** acting like certain houses were better then others. They all went to the same school why couldn't they all just get along. Sighing, she decided that one tree really did need to show school spirit not just house. Then an idea hit her, "Kurumi..Kurumi.. Do you remember it was my first year, you taught me a spell that changed a candy wrapper into a hair pin?" she hoped Kurumi would remember, but it was a long time ago. "Do you think that same spell would work to change wrappers into decorations for say the tree?" Oh she hoped this plan would work... It could look so nice.

Kat had walked into the Great Hall just to grab a quick snack. Much to her surprise, so many students were huddling and helping Mister Gibbins fixing up the Christmas trees. "Hiya, Mister Gibbins," Kat smiled. Ek. She sounded like a desperate Puffer.
"Nice decorations you've got there," Kat commented. "Do you need another hand? I mean, a little more hands or wands can help right?"

Too, too much.
Sutton gave a warm smile to the girl as she introduced herself. "Nice to meet you!" she said as she went pick up the other end of the tinsel as instructed. It was a REALLY big tree. Sutton couldn't have imagined trying to wrap tinsel around it by herself. She would have gotten soooo frustrated!
As they began to put the tinsel on the tree, Sutton chatted away! "So are you going home for the holidays, Cardigan, or are you staying at Hogwarts?" she asked as she eyed some of the other decorations that were around and tried to decide a plan on putting them all on.
She felt someone touch her shoulder...and she was about to whip around and YELL at whoever this was! but then she heard his voice...
Oh.
Jared.
She smirked and raised an eyebrow at him.."And so what if I was, Jared?" she asked coolly, but she was only messing with him. "I'm great, really, though this tree stuff is getting --"
WHAT?!
"Yeah...I did.." she said, glaring at him..a bit.
Elliot felt her shirt change...UGHHH! She scowled at Jayden..."Seriously?!" she shrieked...she had called her Empress...mehehe, Elliot was glad that caught on-- and she growled. She pointed her wand at her shirt and quickly changed it back...
eerrgghh.
She shot a look at Jayden before tying some more pretty lacy bows to the tree...it was starting to look reeeaally good. Must have been the lace.
Jayden watched her two favorite people exchange words. It was nice to see that these two could actually get along! "So guys, what are your plans for Christmas this year? I think I actually might stay here for the holidays this time...." She added, smiling cheerfully as she walked up beside Jared, entwining her hand with his. This truly was going to be a great term, Jayden could just feel it.
Ah good. Seb had been a bit worried that none of the staff members were going to join in. So he was glad to see the Librarian and he flashed the man a grin and gave him a slap on the back. "Thanks for coming down. More hands are most welcome." Not only with the decorating. Not that he thought the students would get out of hand but just in case, it was nice to have another staffer on hand.
"You're welcome Mr Gibbins." Leobald grinned. Lifting up a big box of Christmas decorations mainly Christmas lights and assorted decorations he strolled off towards the nearest tree. Calling over his shoulder he asked Sebastian curiously "So how do you like working here?" It was a valid question given that they had come well into the term now. The groundskeeper must have established an idea about what he thought of having kids running around his feet and coming to him with questions and problems just like they did to any other staffer.
Pulling out his wand Leobald raised the Christmas lights all the way to the top of the tree before, he with a concentrated look about his face started to circle the tree as he fastened the lights to the tree branches. After a while he stopped to view the efforts of his work just as much as stopping his head from spinning.
It was hard to believe that Christmas was almost upon them. Seb was sure that when you got older, time went by so much faster. But he may be getting older, it didn't mean that he still didn't get excited when Christmas time came around.
And what he loved best about Christmas was decorating the tree, and this year he had the opportunity to decorate twelve of them. Hopefully though the students and Professor's of course would like to help out.
Carefully moving through the entrance hall, levitating the trees a few feet in the air, Seb made his way into the Great Hall and once inside, he carefully placed the trees around the room making sure that they were visible from every angle.
Yep, he loved this time of year.
The Groundskeeper would find it much easier to decorate this year, without the four house tables and one staff table blocking the way. To the decorating crew, it might not seem odd that the tables were missing; but to the students who had been forced to eat breakfast on the floor, the missing tables were an OUTRAGE.
Either way, carry on with your decorating! Enjoy the open floor space, for now.

Lana had intentionally ventured out of her Common Room in search of a snack, but as she got closer and closer to the Great Hall; a snack was the furthest thing from her mind. Word of decorating had reached her and she was a bit excited. December was her favourite month and the Christmas season was her absolute favourite time of year after all.
Walking into the Great Hall, Lana held her journal close to her as she noticed all the other people already there. There were so many students and she didn't even know where to go or if anyone needed help.
Spotting her sister, she smiled. At least, she knew a few of the people there. Meeting new people was still on her list and it did unnerve her still. Spotting Mister Gibbins, Lana made her way over. "Sir, could I possible help as well," she asked. It looked like a lot of fun and she wanted to be part of it.

Minerva was waiting on Kurumi's response and thought she would pull out some chocolate frogs, thinking they could use those wrappers if the same spell could be used. She moved to sit her bag down on one of the tables and just looked blankly at the open room.. Was that like this when she came in. She couldn't remember, all she remembered were the trees. "ummm.. Mr. Kitridge, Mr. Gibbins.. Do you happen to know where the tables went?" That's when she noticed students sitting on the...floor?? "What is going on?" she said not really to anyone.

Jayden was so happy to be decorating, singing along to herself. And then she realized something. There were more students. A LOT more students. And they were all..... eating. ON THE FLOOR.

Sierra awkwardly bent down to retrieve an ornament out the box. She glanced up the tree and saw a vacant branch the ornament would look good on. Levitating the ornament with the help of her wand, Sierra carefully hung the ornament.
Glancing at Kurumi, Sierra's face fell. "Oh," she said. She'd somehow gotten her hopes up that Kurumi would have some sure fire way of getting through something like this. The girl seemed to be able to do anything. "Look, I..." Awkward pause. Sierra even ran a hand through her hand in that time. "I'm really sorry about your Mom." Sierra suddenly knew how it felt to love and maybe lose.
She looked at Kurumi with watery eyes and nodded. "I know. She's going to make it, though. There'll be a future, so I won't have just a memory," she said, but she got choked up trying to get that out. She sighed. "Mom gives me a potion at night to keep the nightmares away. Either that, or she sleeps with me."
She started to reach for another ornament but paused again. She had something for her? "Oh," she said, accepting the gift. She looked at it for a while before saying anything. Then looking up, she said, "Thank you, Kurumi. I'll use it. I will."

...and then the groundskeeper said something else, which sort of kept Sierra from wanting to cry over what she and Kurumi were talking about. "What's a commune?" she asked. She nodded along anyway, but then...

...she happened to notice how empty the area had become.
"Mr. Gibbins?" she asked. "We cutting back on costs or something? What happened to the house tables? ...and the staff table?"

Couldn't they have saved the remodeling for after dinnertime?
Seb blinked a couple of times but he couldn't help but smile at the young Hufflepuff. She sure could talk a lot. Which in his opinion was great, he preferred when the kids talked instead of brooded. "I don't think your grandparents would feel like that." But then he didn't know them so he could be wrong. "I'm going to stay at Hogwarts over Christmas as well. It's my first time away from family too." Hopefully that made her feel better. Not that she looked sad or anything.

"Nice decorations you've got there," Kat commented. "Do you need another hand? I mean, a little more hands or wands can help right?"
Turning towards the Slytherin, Seb grinned. "Well I can't take credit for the ones in the boxes." He looked up at the tree he had been decorating with magic. "Thanks though. And more hand and wands will definitely help."

"Please call me Seb." It made him feel old when the students called him 'Mr Gibbins.' He felt absolutely ancient when his colleagues did it as well. He conjured another glass bauble and levitated it onto the tree.
He watched the librarian with the Christmas lights out of the corner of his eye and he grinned. "I like it. It's kind of like the commune I come from but with a lot more kids and a lot more magic." Actually the only thing Hogwarts and Crystal Waters had in common was that both places had very large grounds and children everywhere.
"How long have you been working here?"

Sir? Now that was something that he had never been called before and it felt kinda weird. "Of course you can." Seb gave the youngster a smile and gestured towards the decorations. "Choose yourself a tree and go at it."

"A commune is essentially a community of people living together who share responsibility of the area they live in. We also share our posessions and resources." He gave her a smile. "It's not for everyone but...well...circumstances brought me there."
And just as Seb was about to place some more decorations onto the tree a very weird thing happened. All the house tables plus the staff table just disappeared. Since they were decorating in the hall, Seb figured it was to give them a little more room to move but when he saw that kids had actually been eating off the tables, well apparently something was amiss.
Which was confirmed a moment later when both Minerva and Sierra questioned him about it. This apparently was not the norm. Seb glanced over to Leo and gave him a questioning look. Did he know what was going on?
"I'm not quite sure girls." He lowered his wand and looked around the hall. "Just continue on with what you're doing and I'll check it out."
Although he had no idea what he was supposed to be looking for.

Cece heard that the groundskeeper was bringing in Christmas trees to be decorated so naturally she made her way to the Great Hall to watch the festivities. She wasn't really feeling up to doing the decorating but that wasn't going to stop her from watching.
Walking into the Great Hall she looked around to admired all the trees but something else caught her eye...

Well lack of something else that is.
Scanning the very empty room that right now only housed twelve trees and some students, Cece made her way towards the groundskeeper passing Professor Kitridge on her way. "Really Leo, you guys moved out the tables just to bring in some trees?"
Not bothering to stop she continued walking until she got to the groundskeeper. "Mr. Gibbins, you do know it's customary to leave the tables in the Great Hall when the trees are brought in right?"
That's right, she was blaming this on both men. They were after all the only adults in the room before she came in.
