The Fat Lady's Portrait

The entrance to the Gryffindor Common Room is guarded by the very famous and very vocal portrait of one large woman, affectionately known to all as the Fat Lady. To gain entrance to the lions' common room, simply tell her the password and she should swing forward to reveal the round hole through which Gryffindors climb into their tower.

If you AREN'T a Gryffindor, though, and you try to get in anyway... be warned that Ms. Fat Lady might make a fuss about your sneaking around. She probably wouldn't mind your waiting on a friend outside here, but she will try to get some juicy gossip out of ya.

Coming up from the kitchens with a fresh batch of tuna fish cookies for Walnut in her bag, Kurumi approached the portrait of the Fat Lady, uttered the password, and waited for her portrait to swing open so she could go through the tunnel as usual to the common room...only the portrait didn't move an inch.

"Why won't you open up?" she asked, tilting her head towards the Fat Lady and hoping for some sort of answer while taking a step forwards...only to find that her body was being repelled by some sort of force. WHAT?! Wait...WHAT!? Kurumi pressed forward again, only to find herself hitting an invisible wall once more. Could the Fat Lady even hear her?

Several thoughts went through her head at this moment...but one lingered the longest. Walnut...Walnut was still in the common room. Alone. Alone and with everyone's shoes.

This.Was.BAD.

Sarah had her long brown down, and by her appearance in a nightie with her long pajama pants sticking out you can see she was about to head to bed. She had been doing homework and then she got into pajamas and was preparing to be nestle into her bed with a book or two when she unceremoniously evicted! Luckly she managed to grab her wand and cast accio on her ever present satchel which contained mostly everything a person could need anyway. Sarah was prepared for everything! It also had books, textbooks, notebooks, her quill and ink as well as partchment and notebooks... and it even had a few garbage bags in there just in case someone needed some clothes (well it was actually incase Elijah took off his top again) and there was a stick incase a coracle was ever needed.

Sarah brushed a chestnut curl away from her eyes. No, she had not managed to grab something to tie her up with so it would have to be that way for now. She was barefoot, her narrow feet on the cold stone floor, not that she minded the fact that it was cold. She was a country girl after all.

All in all she was rather excited about that whole experience "that was an awesome experience was it not. It was being controled by an unknow source, sortof like a marionette". she remarked. Yes, Sarah had not left her optimistic nature behind

Kurumi blinked several times when Sarah appeared. "Controlled by an unknown source?" she repeated while cocking her head to the side at the second year. "What do you mean? I was just coming up from the kitchens and found that I couldn't get near the portrait...were you just IN the common room?"

AND DID SHE SEE WALNUT!? WAS HE PEEING IN PEOPLE'S SHOES ALREADY?!

Kurumi knew that he spent the majority of the day under her bed asleep or out of sight somewhere else. He was either living it up right now, ruling his kingdom and taking the entire sofa up with his furry self OR he was angry that everyone had just up and left him like that without any tuna fish flakes and was now seeking his revenge peeing...everywhere.

Sarah was glad that her prefect was there. Kurumi would take control. "Well, I was lying on my bed reading" she held up a book she was holding, "when all of sudden, I was like dragged off my bed, I managed to grab my wand and summon my bag" she held out her bag" when I was rolled down the stairs across the common room" where you cat was doing something by people's shoes "and I had just managed to stand up" and smell what he was doing, yet before i could see clearly "when I was shoved out the door..." Sarah finished. She left the part out about the cat as she did not want to make her beloved prefect fret about her cat getting up to mischief. Sarah thought the saying was ironic 'when the cat is away the mice will play" as with Kurumi's cat it was more like, when students are away the cat will play and urinate in the common room.

Sarah then remembered something, "you came from the kitchens? Do you by any chance have any cookies on you?" Sarah asked.

What on earth just happened...? One minute she was relaxing by the fireplace with Felix and the next thing she knew she was out here...huh?

What's even worse she couldn't even get back inside! Dangit! It was a good thing she was holding onto Felix because she might have gone crazy on the portrait or whatever was keeping her out if her Felix or her wand had been left inside. Now then. What did happen?

Looking around she saw Sarah and Kurumi. One of them had to know...right? From what she was hearing Kurumi might not but for sure Sarah did--she felt exactly what she'd felt. This was great! Well not the being locked out but you know...great that she wasn't going mad and imaging things. "The same happened to me! Only I was by the fireplace...I don't suppose you have any idea what happened huh Kurumi?" Even though she wasn't there she had to know. Prefects seemed to know everything.

Turning at the sound of another voice Lex saw Penelope walking over to them. So, like Kurumi, she also didn't get to experience that bizarre--yet strangely amazing--pulling thing that dragged her and Sarah from the common room. Such a shame. If it didn't mean that they couldn't go back inside then she would have ventured to say that it was FUN.

"Well I don't know what happened but one minute I was relaxing with Felix and the next thing I know I'm being thrown out of the common room!"

She looked to the portrait of the fat lady then shrugged. "I don't think we can get back inside either...I've tried." and tried..and tried some more; 11 year old persistence. "I don't know what's blocking the way though and I didn't see whatever it was that so rudely kicked us out of our own common room."

Seriously. Wasn't this like the only place that truly belonged to them? Now they couldn't even go here?--

Where would they stay if not here...?

"Why is everyone locked out!" she said as she saw the gryffindors standing on the steps around the portrait. she then turned to kat her legs throbbing. They usually did whenever she had to go up several flights of stairs for classes but merlin if she had to do this at least twice a day she would die.. though her legs would look GREAT.. *cough* not the point "Everyone seems to be locked out of their Common rooms." she tols the lot of them. hehe oh HAIII Lex.. *snicker* anyway "Were you lot forced out as well?" then locked out. she thought of her experience yet again and thought of her wand.. her WAANNDD! :wibbleee:

EVEN THE LIONS ARE LOCKED.

OH THANK MERLIN THEY'RE FINISHED. But when Kat looked down... er, staircase. They had to go down that as well. Kat sat down first. She was soooo tired of going up and dooooooooooooooooown. Urghhhhhhhhhh.

"Locked out as well," Kat said and she nodded at the Lion Prefection, Kurumi. Then her eyes went back to Ariana. "I think we should stay here for a while a rest before we go down the staircase of pain." Yep, it's pain alright.

"Need a breather, kat?" she asked her classmate as she decided it was a good idea. she sat down nest to her "More like staircase of deathhh." she said. the 4th year felt like she was dieing.. thank god with their common room it was down ONE single flight of stairs.. and well.. they were only a few steps so it wasnt that bad.

Obviously, Kat needed a rest. People think it's exercise going up and down the stairs. But not overdo it! Seriously?! Can they like, get a Muggle escalator and place it here or something? Please. Kat could fund it if they wanted! :whaa:

After a few minutes of resting, Kat gained back her energy. "You better now?"

As if things couldn't get any worse already Lex saw two Slytherins making their way up the stairs and towards them. Ew, one of them was that Ariana girl.

She was about to let them know that they'd have to come back some other time, you know, when they weren't LOCKED OUT but then they were talking about being locked out as well. "Wait..." She got over herself so she could get some information on this very annoying problem. "So you mean that Slytherins are locked out too???"

Dear Merlin, she had to find Seri before something bad happened!!! :whaa:

"Is anyone else locked out?" Or was this just some horrible prank done by the Claws and the Puffs; a horrible prank that was in NO way funny.

Sarah was glad that she was not wierd or that she was no the only one who had the fun... "Hey Alexa! That was quite an experience huh?". Then she noticed Penelope. "Well Iwas lying on my bed reading when I was sort of pulled off the bed and down the stairs and out the common room door by some wierd force.. luckily I managed to grab my wand and bag on the way out, because it seems the common room is now locked" she explained

"everyone else is locked out actually." what a tragedy.. ugh seriously.. this was horrible.. now she couldn't even go sneak into another dorm room and sleep.. ugh she was NOT sleeping on the floor.. Hospital wing anyone? *smirk*

Ronnie blinked. Wait. What just happened?!

She looked around and saw that she was in front of the portrait of the Fat Lady. WHAT IN MERLIN'S BEARD WAS GOING ON?! One moment she was in the common room with Oliver in her lap by the fire, reading comics and now she was...out here...along with the rest of the house, and a few Slytherins too.

Speaking of Oliver...where was he?

"Oliver?" she said, looking around. She felt something against her leg and looked down to see the kitten looking up at her with his wide green eyes. "There you are." she said, scooping him up in her arms.

Ronnie then turned to the portrait, and muttered the password to it, but it didn't budge. :blink: Whaaaaaa? She said it again, more louder and clearer but it still didn't open. Huh. That's weird. She turned to the group crowded by the portrait. "Anyone know what's going on?"

"I'll say!" She said, suddenly grinning. Despite the fact that they had been so rudely evicted she had to admit that the means used was actually quite amazing. She'd never been pulled from a room by something she couldn't see before! "I'd wanna do it again--just uh...minus the whole being locked out thing!" Yup, it was that fun but more seriously. "I wonder what kicked us out though...it nearly made Felix get stuck inside." She looked to the portrait. "And if this doesn't get fixed by lights out then where are we gonna sleep?"

Sleep...bed...--HER CHOCOLATE FROGS!!!

Noooooooooooooo!!!! They had to get back inside!!! :whaa:

How weird...

So something was going around locking people out of their common rooms? "Do you know if Seri's okay?" Seeing as the two were in the same house she should know. "And is anyone looking into the problem down in the dungeons?" Because clearly the girl had enough time on her hands to walk all the way up here.

When she saw Ronnie trying the password she felt she should let her know that it wouldn't work but the girl soon found that out on her own and was now asking the same question as everyone else.

"Well from what we've got, some spooky, invisible thing's kicking people out of their common rooms. We can't get back inside." That was pretty much it, wasn't it? "And now my chocolate frogs are stuck inside." She couldn't leave that part out.

"Maybe we should get Professor Bentley...or anyone else I guess 'cause this matter just turned serious!" She walked up to the portrait and began banging it. "Oi! I don't care who you are in there or how big you are, touch my chocolate frogs and you're dead!!" Yeah...she had to get that out too...she meant business.

"Right, so what should we do?" She asked everyone standing there.

"yeah they;re getting Lafay & Scabior, And i didn't see Serenity.. Maybe she got locked IN the common room" she said to the poor first year clearly trying to scare her for her friend. but it was the truth in a way she hadnt seen her friend adn if she had.. she probably wouldnt of told her anyway*smirk*

well i saw that the librarian should be coming soon (second floor post)
 

Then she noticed Ronnie. "Hi Ronnie! Your guess is as good as mine... Yet I think it is some sort of DARK MAGIC.. It always is when something goes wrong in Hogwarts"


Sarah was glad that there was someone who shared her joy at the adventure. "I also want it again! This is sooo exciting!" BEAM!

Sarah then said "The school will make I plan. I heard that in 1993-1994 school year, there was a giant sleepover in the Great Hall after Sirius Black slashed the Fat Lady's portrit. At that time Sirius Black was still viewed as bad so the whole school slept in the great hall as a precaution!"

Alexa was a woman of action.. just like Sarah. "Maybe someone should call Professor Bently or someone... yet it seems to be a school wide problem.. the snakes are having the same difficulty" Sarah was not volunteering however as she was in her night gown!

Alexa stopped banging on the portrait and looked to the Slytherin girl as she explained that someone had gone off to get their head of house and...Professor Scabior..? Okay....--

"WHHAAAAAT?!?!?" Seri, noooooo!!! :whaa: "What'd ya mean she might have gotten locked IN?! Go! Go save her right now!!! We have to do something!!" She began pacing like a madwoman, trying to sort out her thoughts. Her Bestie was LOCKED AWAY in her common room with some kind of creepy ghostie thing!! It could eat her!! "What are we gonna doooo?!" Don't just stand there, THINK!

Alexa would have agreed with the girl like she was doing earlier but now it was personal. The thing had kicked her out so it could steal and eat her chocolate frogs. :mellow:

"It was cool but not anymore." Nope. "I want my candy." Scowl.

Her face perked up a bit when she heard about there being a possibility of a slumber party in the great hall. "NEAT! So then...we'll all be bunking down there and telling scary stories and eating candy--" The happiness was gone again. Slowly she turned to the portrait again. "My candy..." Sniffle. "Please let me in...or just throw the candy out too--either's fine."

She rested her head against the portrait that was determined to stay closed and listened to Sarah's suggestion. Lex sighed, only half paying attention. "I guess I could go...unless someone else wants to?" Honestly, she didn't want to have to walk down all those stairs then all the way back up.

Any other vulunteers?

In the middle of her moping she heard another set of footsteps. Looking over she saw another Lion that had missed out on the whole thing and was only now showing up. How could she be so happy at a time like this?!

"We're locked out. Some invisible force thing person threw us out and now we can't get in. The password won't work at all."

To make matters worse the girl had just come up here, she didn't think she'd be willing to go back down to find Professor Bentley or anyone else. It was worth a try though. "You wanna go get the Professor?" Pretty please. Let's face it, she didn't know where to begin looking for their Head of House and besides that, her legs were shorter so it would have taken her more steps to get wherever it was she needed to go.

"Hello" Sarah said to the girl who had come up to her. She like Kurumii had not been evicted from the common room. She would have told the girl what happened if Aexa had not explained
Sarah had happened to hear the conversation and she was shock that the snake girl could be so cruel. She tried to calm Alexa down "Alexa, I doubt Seri woulld have been locked in the common room. Remember how that unknown thing pushed us out... well it pushed everyone out.No one is in there, I can guarentee. That force was too strong to resist." She told the younger girl

She was quite excited about the idea of a slumber party. "Yeah that would be awesome! Don't worry about candy... I do have a chocolate frog down here" Sarah reached into her bag and brought out a chocolate frog. It was hard for her to be so kind.. yet she had been working on her self recently and she had decided that this chocolate frog would be like a sacrifice. This was her pathway to becoming like Kurumi or any caring generous person she knew. "Here Alexa.. take this! Enjoy" she said with a whole hearted voice and smile. "I am sure you will get your candy when you return, I cannot promise, yet I am sure whatever it is would know better then to take YOUR candy. That would be stealing you know. And besides there is no student in there now"

It was all fun and games until someone started banging on her portrait.

The Fat Lady was only pretending to be asleep, trying her very best and even craning her ears slightly just to hear a little bit of some juicy gossip. It had seemed like ages since she and Violet had had something good to chat about. And it seemed like a few more ages were going to have to pass. There was nothing of interest said.

Her acting had never been good, and only when the little lioness Alexa stopped banging on her portrait, did she 'wake up'. The Fat Lady wiped the side of her mouth, just in case she had been drooling in her pretend sleep before raising her chubby arms above her head in a stretch. She blinked rapidly at the students, as if she was surprised to see them all there.

"Hello, my little lions! And you, snakes!" She was practically singing, despite the look of 'surprise' on her face. "Why wasn't I woken up?"

Trotting up the stairs with his robes flying behind him Leo was slightly out of breath when he came up onto the 7th floor corridor and saw a number of lions and even a few snakes milling about around the Fat Lady's portrait.

Fixing his robes and sticking the broken reel into a robe pocket he strolled up to the group of lions and snakes worry visible in his eyes. "Is everyone all right? Nobody is hurt or injured?" Mr Kitridge asked studying the students nearest to him. "I heard about the eviction from the comm room. The badgers are locked out too." Looking over at the snakes present he asked. "I persume you can't get into your dungeon common room either?"

Going up to inspect to inspect the Fat Lady's portrait he fired off a charming smile at the woman. "Good evening Mrs Fat Lady! Why are you not letting the tired lions into their common room?"

Lex was gearing up to go into full panic mode. They were locked out and now she was hearing that her bestie might have been locked in. The more the thought about it was the faster she paced.

Why was everything going wrong tonight? First her chocolate frogs and now this?! Was someone trying to punish her?!

Her internal rant was prematurely ended when Sarah started talking something that actually made sense. "Oh yeah..." She said simply, stopping mid-pace. "I guess you might be right..." Though she would still check. When it came to her bestfriend she could never be too sure. Right, but until then. "Wow Sarah, thanks!" It was really nice of her to offer her chocolate frogs especially when she knew that she wouldn't have offered any. "But you can keep them. It just wouldn't be the same..." She eyed the chocolate frogs. "Okay maybe I'll have one. Just one." And no more...okay maybe two...

"And you know, you're right. No one in their right mind would touch my candy." Nod. Now she was only half worried.



Blink. Blink.

The portrait. How long had she been awake listening to them complaining about being kicked out and losing their chocolate frogs?! How could she have even slept through something like that?!

"You mean to tell me that you've been sleeping the whole time? Really?! Don't you know that my candy's stuck in there?!" YESSSS she was complaining mostly about her candy. Honestly, she had her wand and her kneazle, what more did she need? The books could stay in there for as loooong as they wanted and she didn't mind not being able to hand in her homework. The only thing that mattered was the sugary goodness behind the Portrait.

"Now that you're awake, can't you evict the candy too?" DETERMINED STARE.



And more footsteps again! If it was another snake coming to have a laugh then she was going to give them a piece of her mind. This was a candy crisis not a time to be hopping from entrance to entrance in the hopes of getting a show!

She turned her attention from the portrait and felt instantly relieved when she saw that it was the nice librarian who had gotten the slap of the century. Yeah...he was never gonna live that down as far as she was concerned... "I don't think anyone got hurt...--but my Chocolate frogs are still inside." She added the last part as an afterthought. It was best to let him know too. The more persons working on a solution increased the chance for success.

"And I don't think The Fat Lady had anything to do it with...it was more like some kind of invisible presence...kinda like a ghost, that hauled us out and dumped us here." Though she wasn't completely buying the story that the portrait had been sleeping the whole time. Come on, who could sleep through all that and a bunch of puzzled lions??
