And now she translated it.

"Thanks Louisa." he nodded quietly and gave her a thankful smile, although at the back if his head he struggled with his OCD kicking into high gear, trying to keep his fingers stapled onto his desk and not whip out his wand and scourgify every square inch of his face, his clothes, his things, his desk and doing the same to her. He scolded himself quietly to keep calm, after all she has been under the weather since December rolled around, and he has attended to her, given her hugs-- whatever she has, he already has it. So he should just chill right? Right.

Thing is probably everybody he has had contact with may have the bug whizzing around inside them too by now. Ooops. Merry Christmas Elijah.

And really, keeping calm and not laughing out loud is the best he can do at that moment as the Head Girl has managed to turn the spotlight back to the Curly Puff. Yeah come on buddy, work that charm on the ginger Viking, how much harder can it be from a 70 year old pensioner right?

Ok he understood the pick one rune... but tell him the what? Again wheels spinning in this Ravenclaw's head. The most he can probably do was just say something about one of them right? Oh boy here we go half guessing... and up goes the hand "Uhm Professor there is the Jera Rune, its the 4th symbol in the second Ætt, it has a general meaning of harvest, fertility and fruition, which essentially means successful endeavors or that there are hopes for peace and prosperity."

Apparently shoving Louisa under the Express didn't exactly distract the Professor from Elijah's apparent wisdom for Runes. "Hm? Me? What do *I* think? Ummmm I think.... that... the onee Rune that reeeeeaaaallllly represents intrusion is... umm.... um...."

"We should tooootttalllly talk Runes sometime after class, Vivi, when we're not in the wonderful Professor Christiansen's class," he gave her a small wink as thanks for her help in that, otherwise, extremely horrible situation.

Elijah shot Vickers a look that could be directly translated too: 'Best get Lady Voldemort here under control lest you want the class to find out about your extremely 'non-childish' timepiece'. One would have to be very fluent in body language, though, to gain the FULL message, but Elijah had faith in Vickers.

Cora glanced at the symbols. Some of them she recognized, others she didn't. Clearly she had seen these somewhere before, and she started thinking about where these could possibly be in her house.

One especially caught her eye. It looked almost like a tree to her, and Cora knew she had known what it meant. "That one's Algiz," she said aloud but quietly. She remembered thinking about how a tree protected it's surroundings. "It is a shield, or protection. Defense against evil." Cora could really use a shield.

Okay...Kurumi KNEW what that word meant! Meanink! She knew that one and had it actually written down in her Christiansen dictionary that she was not flipping through at the moment. AHA! Meaning! Yes...okay...so....pick a rune and tell him the meaning. She could do that.

"Perdo, or Perthro, means mystery or chance and typically implies a gamble. It can also be called the Rune of Probability and the role of luck," she said as she lowered her hand.
Glancing over her shoulder when *sigh* Alexa was once again speaking without thinking, she leaned over slightly and simply tapped on her textbook. "Might help if you open it up," she whispered. There was no harm in doing it while in the middle of a lesson. Kurumi had in her first year.

Then again, Kurumi wasn't sure why she was offering advice to the first year. Every time she tried to it had been thrown right back in her face.

Which was why she quickly turned her attention back towards the front of the room and Professor Christiansen when she overheard Elijah asking to meet up with Vivi later to talk about runes. WAIT! That sounded aaaaaaaaawfully familiar! Venturing a glance at the Ravenclaw, Kurumi eyed Elijah for a brief moment before whispering to the blonde friend, "When he says talk runes...he doesn't really mean it..."

Nope. Elijah studied everything before you even showed up and then talked about different things instead. Or soaked you with a well placed Aguamenti spell.

Even more people were looking at the funny scribbly lines and spouting definitions. Granted she was positive that Laura's wasn't that accurate but she was sure that for the most part everyone was getting it right.

Suddenly a hand reached over and tapped the textbook she had never opened since the day it was bought. She looked over immediately and saw that the hand belonged to Kurumi. Hopefully she was answering her question instead of gearing up to give her a lecture; she could do without one of those at the moment.

....Was it really that simple...? Just look in the text book? At first she was a bit sceptical, afterall, when had a book ever done anything good BUT she would give her prefect the benefit of the doubt so offering her an embarrassed smile she opened the book and began flipping through--aha!

It really was in the book. She grinned over at the wonderfully helpful perfect. "Wow thanks!" And now to scan through...hmmm...interesting...

"Umm...Nautiz shows sadness...." She scanned a bit more on the page, "but it's about like being strong and determined and stuff..." She liked this rune.

Well, He was half right.Nigel was okay with that and he did know on rune.

Nigel liked Thor he was cool. Even though he liked Iron Man better.

Grinning widely at the Professor's head-nod, Dylan was about to contribute something else when the guy started going at some girl...The Slytherin heard...but didn't see. So, he had no idea who was getting it handed to them...

...And then they were asked to pick a rune...

Eyeing the air-drawing, Dylan attempted to pick something not yet described...Hmm..."Eihwaz, Professor...means Yew Tree." A powerful wand-wood that fascinated him...Not that this had any kind of relationship to that...or did it? The Slytherin would research later..."For it to mean something relate-able to death, the yew tree...the characteristics are quite pleasant."

Jory was sure he got what the Professor was trying to say right. He wanted them to name a rune and state its meaning. He raised his hand. "There's Mannaz,'' the Puff said. "It means attitude you display towards others and vice versa.''

Sarah had not known which rune to talk about so she in the end talked about Wunjo. "Wunjo means great happiness and celebration, the deserved kind. It can also mean a conflict in the future where one would have victorious gain". Sarah LOVED being happy... and why note. Happiness makes the word go around! She was happy to be alive, breathing and in Hogwarts. She was happy to have such an AMAZING family and friends. She was happy that Kurumi was HER prefect. In fact there was so much things to be happy about!

Before Lewis got the chance to answer the professor's question his attention was caught by a student (Alexa) who was asking a rather...weird question. Almost rude if the professor took it the wrong way. His first reaction was to turn around to make sure that it wasn't a Hufflepuff. He could only pray to Merlin that Professor Christiansen wouldn't take the question the wrong way if it was. Well, OF COURSE he hoped that either way, no matter which house the person was in. He didn't exactly want ANYWAY to lose house points.

Once he'd spotted the girl he first breathed a sigh of relief when he saw the gold and red on her robes and was immediately glad that it wasn't he who was going to have to deal with that student. Which was probably wrong but in that moment one hundred percent accurate. Plus, Kurumi was WAY better at the whole Prefecting thing. Which was what she was doing before he even got the chance to turn back around.

Smiling at the Gryffindor slightly, Lewis did finally turn in his seat again to raise his hand to answer. The distraction had made him miss the other people's answers so he hoped nobody had talked about the rune he had chosen yet. "Raido represents a wagon which in turn stands for travel. So it usually means you're going to move or go on a journey or...there's going to be a significant change ahead but the rune means that you are going to know which path to take." Hopefully that made sense. He had sort of forgot the exact words he had had prepared in his head when he'd glanced at Kurumi there.

The accent the man had was funny as always. But also confusing as always. Daichi wanted to laugh but figured that would be rude and he didn't want to loose points. But it seemed that the Professor was already targeting another student so he let out a quiet giggle that probably no one would hear.

He wrote down notes on his parchment from what he could understand before he began to doodle. He was in the middle of drawing a snitch when a movement caught his attention and he looked up again to find the Futhark alphabet in the air. He placed his quill down and tried to concentrate on the question.

It took some time but he finally got what the man wanted to know so he stared at the strange symbols before raising his hand. "Isa means Ice" he said and was the only thing he could remember. Runes was not his best subject... along with Transfiguration, charms, CoMC...

BAHAHAHAHA. The stammering of the Hufflepuff drew a smug smile on her face, and it widened even more when he pretended to be humble and then.... WHATWASHEONABOUT?!!!! Her smile was wiped off her face instantly and her jaw just simply dropped open at the nonsense Elijah was accusing her of. Yep, she was going to use big words like 'accuse' and 'penalty' and 'PUNISHMENT'. When he was done lying, she turned her gaze to the professor, "Professor Christiansen knows I wouldn't have said those lies." She retorted at the boy and snatched her parchment from the bag busying herself with doodles writing very important notes.

Then Vivi helped Elijah with the answer, how Gryffindorish of her. Louisa didn't mind that since her real intention was to make the Hufflepuff merely comfortable. Her goal was changed now though, and once Elijah so shamelessly asked Vivi to go out on a FAKE study session a.k.a. a real date, Louisa snorted.

Her eye was still twitching and she casually pretended to rub her eyebrow to hide it, or fix the non-existent mascara with the tip of her fingers. Clearing her throat she raised her hand, "Laguz. It indicates water, a fertility source, the healing power of renewal. Life energy and organic growth. Imagination and psychic matters." Her handkerchief went to her mouth quickly as she let out another powerful sneeze...

... and this gave her a BRILLIANT idea. Later. When the class was over because disturbing it more wasn't a wise move.

Kat wasn't that talented in Runes. But, she did understand it. She's just not that good with those stuff. And... it's ancient. We don't use or do anything ancient. Not in this generation, no. She can't say she was forced to study this. But... ok.

"The rune, Jera, literally means 'year', Kat had said. "And it is the rune for harvest or for peace on the land or in the heart."

She forgot? No she didn't forget anything...she didn't know. How could she forget something that she didn't know? She didn't appreciate the whole shaking of the finger thing either...like she was a dog and just ate a shoe. Why did she even come to this class? Oh right her parents would kill her if she skipped it...right.

She sucked it up and listened to the next question. She looked at the runes that he drew in the air. Surely she could remember one right? "Professor the rune fehu means wealth." Did she need to say more? Because there wasn't much more that you could really say about that could you?

PFFT. PFFT. PFFT.

Why, little Ms. Ravenclaw was suddenly not in the mood anymore. Why? Well, that was because Professor Christiansen didn't acknowledge her earlier question. She asked him if he remembered her and he ignored her and went to entertain the next person to hand out his idea. Was it so hard to say a yes, or a no?

As questions were asked after the other, she chose to just stay silent on her seat, still feeling a bit upset but as the class took pace, she just couldn't stop herself but raise her hand when they were asked to select a rune along with its associated meaning.

"Wunjo Professor.. it means joy, comfort, pleasure. It can also imply general success and recognition of worth." So see, she opted for a pleasant rune because even though she was upset, she still admired the man.

He ignored the child.

"Ya... Fehu means, caddle, and velss. Zings zat belonk to you... money. Income. Success und happiness." He said nodding to the child.



"Ya... good. Surisaz. Means Sorn or Giant. It is also associated viss ze Norse god of sunder, Sor." He said and noded to the girl.



"Ya! Raido means travel, vagon or chariot. Very good." He told the boy.



"Ya very good, bouss of you. It is a happy rune." He said nodding to the girls.



The professor nodded, completely oblivious that the smart little claw had given the pretty Hufflepuff boy the answer. "Ya... Good.. you are very smart. Hagalaz means destruction, uncontrolled veazer or trials."



"Nausiz" He said in his heavy accent, "It does have to do with strengs but it is more about need, endurance, survival and facing von's fears."



"No." He said unamused. It was sad really how some kids made it this far. He'd have to fail her. It was cruel to let her go forward.

"Ya, Isa is the Ice Rune." He nodded "Good, good."

"Yes. Year, and harvest. Somesing zat gets realized from your vork prior." He said and nodded. "Very good."



"Vell, Ya. Eihvaz does mean Yeu tree, strengss, dependability, defence and motivation..." He nodded. "I'm not sure how somesink deass related can be pleasant sough." He said.



"Ya, good. Persro is a mysterious rune..." He said smiling at the girl, "it also has a lot to do viss veemen."



"Ya, Algiz is ze rune for protection." He said. Sometimes runes were just that... simple.



"Ya, Sovilo, it healss and success and it means sun." He added.



"Ya, Berkano is about healink and it is related to ze birch goddess, und as such it is anozer female related rune." He said.



"Ya, Mannaz is ze male rune. Mankind, about yourself. Ya. Good." He said getting excited.



"Ya! Laguz is vater, healink, grouss." He told them.



"Not really... Ossala is about property, too. Posessions and home." He said to the boy.



"Ya very good." He then turned to the rest of the class. "Zere are some runes zat haven't been talked about. Uruz, Ansuz, Kenaz, Gebo, Tiwaz Ehvaz, Ingvaz and Dagaz."

An owl flew into the window, with a note. He read it and started packing his briefcase. "Homevork, is to pick one of zese, tell me ze meaninz, and how you may use it in your every day life. Due von veek from right now. Class Dismissed."

Blink.Blink. HUH?

Class was over...already? Ella just kind of sat there, eyebrows raised. That had been the fasted lesson ever. At least she'd gotten through it without getting completely lost. That was an accomplishment. The third year copied down the homework and then packed her notes away, swinging her bag over her shoulder.

"Bye Professor." She said on her way out of the room, excited she'd have some time to grab a hot chocolate before her next class.

Wait...WHAA?! The whole class was over? Just like that?!

Sierra blinked. She thought she'd just missed a few parts of the discussion while taking notes, but she didn't realize the whole class would just come to an end. Great. Now she'd be even more lost than she already was.

She sighed and at least jotted down a few notes.

The runic alphabet is called the Elder Futhark.

Algiz is a rune that means protection or shield. It can also represent a person's need to protect themselves and other people.

There. At least she'd copied down responses to the questions he'd asked, even if she hadn't gotten a chance to answer them. She packed her belongings, grabbed her parchment, and then made way for the professor's desk.

"Professor Christiansen?" she asked, because...after all this time, he most definitely should be a professor. "I got behind in my note-taking and didn't get to discuss things, but...I wrote some responses for you." She handed him the parchment. Err...what now? A nice goodbye? "Err, have a good day."

Minerva smiled, finally she got something right. That made her feel better, but then an owl came in the window, not strange at all since they were at Hogwarts, BUT the professor packing up was something new. Class was over?? What was going on in this school... She looked around for a second and then took notes on the homework.

Packing up she looked at the professor, "I hope everything is alright sir." she smiled and headed out of the room.

When Daichi saw that an owl had flew in to the classroom and give the Professor a note, he was curious as to what it was. He craned his neck a little but couldn't see anything and he pouted his lips.

Wait...class was over? huh? The Slytherin gave the man a very confused and unsure look. Was he kidding or not? Because class had only just started! "Professor? is everything okay?" he asked a little concerned because this had to be the shortest lesson in history.

OHH! Class dismissed. That was an awfully short lesson but Louisa's Ravenclawness was shoved deep in the back of her mind, something more urgent was tugging at it. Her idea was completely brewed and seemed light and yet powerful. It might work and set things right with the curly head. So quickly, she blew her nose one last time in her handkerchief, and started scribbling down the homework instructions. She needed to get this up in the noticeboard in the common room... DONE.

Her parchment and quill were dumped into her backpack in one swift motion and then it was mounted on her shoulder while the girl jumped to her feet a bit too excitedly and bent to give Vickers a peck on the cheek. "See you in the common room, Vick." She would've said they could go up together... but his best buddy might need him in a minute. Turning around to walk out from this tight row of desks, Louisa bent toward Elijah this time and faked an excited tone, "It was a very entertaining class indeed! I'd watch my back from now on if I was you." Instantly she shoved her damp GERM-Y hanky under his collar, with the hope it'll slide down to his back when he jumps freaking out? Maybe.

So yeah, she meant literally watch your back.

Waaaaiiit...

So then...the class was over?

Blink. Blink. Blink.

But she had just gotten here--not that she was complaining; nope! Grabbing her apparently quite useful textbook she threw it in her bag and began clearing her desk. If this was how every class would be then she was perfectly fine with that! The whole runes thing was pretty complicated anyway. Clearly the Professor saw that the subject could only be appreciated in small doses and she couldn't agree more!

This was one of the things in life that she would never question. "Bye Professor!" Freedom from complicated codes was nice. Really nice.

Hmmph.

"Forgive me for saying so...but the words you just said were positive things...The Yew Tree isn't, though." Shrug. "I mean, it's positive in that it's powerful. But power isn't always a good thing."

Yes. That WAS a Slytherin saying that...

...And then the owl flew in...and they were getting dismissed?

Huh?

Erm, okay. What a perfect waste of his time...

Standing, he made his way forward, grabbing a handout and stuffing it into his bag. "Have a good one, Professor." but it was said in a way that suggested otherwise.

This had been such a waste of his time...

WHAT?! Merlin say what? Class dismissed? The lesson was over? It was done? And it wasn't a joke?

Along with her peers, Beezus eyed the Professor questioningly too. This class ended faster than Alec Summers had caught that last snitch during their match against Hufflepuff! He had to be kidding, right? And homework? UGH.

"But...but Professor! The class barely started!" the Ravenclaw exclaimed defiantly.

Eliza was just starting to get into the subject a little more when the owl flew into the room. An urgent letter? She wondered what could be so important that it had to interrupt the lesson. What?! Class dismissed already? Her jaw almost dropped when the professor just picked up his things and started to leave. Okay, now I'm curious. She wrote down the homework and tried to remember what the students had said the other symbols meant, but what she really felt like investigating was this letter. She watched him closely, hoping he would toss it in the trash bin or leave it on his desk. Come on...forget it. Leave it on the floor. I want to know! She didn't really think herself to be a nosy person, although in this case she supposed she was. There were just so many little mysteries around this school that the not knowing was starting to drive her a bit crazy. She didn't see any sign of the letter though, much to her dismay. She looked at Cora and then to Elliot to see if they were as intrigued by this as she was, and gathered her things to leave.

Awesome, Nigel got one right. But it was short lived because class was now over. Something must have been important in that letter because right when he finished reading it, he dismissed class.

Well, Nigel was okay with it. He packed up his things. "Bye, Professor". Then he left the classroom.
