This particular room has served as an office to a number of different professors over the years. Some of which include revered professors such as Septima Vector, Bree Geltz, Kali O'hara, Lesley Modulo Fox, Matthias Pythagoras Wenlock, Onyx Xavier Frost, and of course, Macadrian Ashling Shackleton-Clark. With each new Professor that has made this office homey, Josephina is sure they each brought their own particular flair to its decorations to accommodate their tastes. Just as Josephina did when she first entered upon this room just several years ago now.
The walls have been painted a light blue-gray color and there are a handful of paintings hung around the room, giving off a rather comfortable aura. One of the paintings is a rendition repainted by Josephina, herself, of a canal near her hometown in Perugia, Italy. There is a framed miniature Italian flag, as well as a third painting of of the famous Leaning Tower of Pisa.
As with typical office decorum, there is a large, polished wooden desk, that once belonged to each of her predecessors. There are a few neat stacks of papers and worksheets on the desk. There are also a few framed photographs sitting on her desk; one of Josephina posed with her two sisters, one of her parents, Nicole and Marcus, sitting on their couch. There's also a photograph of a baby girl, about toddler-aged, who will crawl around in the photo and maybe even disappear completely if you watch long enough, but have no fear, she'll be back! And an even more recent photograph, which you might recognize as your Herbology Professor with your Arithmancy one, taken on their recent trip to Italy. Behind the large wooden desk sits a black executive style chair. Directly on the other side of the desk - where visitors may sit - are two smaller black chairs, but still just as comfortable.
There's a bookcase on the left side, which contains various titles that Josephina collected over the years. Some these include, but are not limited to, The Complete Book of Numerology, New Theory of Numerology, Numerology and Gramatica, A Look Into The Future, and Olde and Forgotten Bewitchments and Charmes. There are also muggle classic books by Charles Dickens and Jane Austen, for which are a few of Fina's guilty pleasures.
Though the door is nearly always open, proper etiquette dictates knocking and addressing your identity before entering. Especially as Professor Hadley likely has her back to the door where she is playing with her puppy named Baisley or her kitten received from recent graduate, Lorelai Bristol, in which she conveniently named Bristol. Just entering without permission is rude and punishable with either point deduction and/or detention for being disrespectful.
OOC: No, there is no waiting area, but please do not clog up this thread with useless chatter of 'waiting to enter'. Have your character knock and then wait for Professor Hadley to respond to either enter or to come back later.
There are plenty of places around the school that allow for chat with your friends; Professor Hadley's office is NOT the place for it and doing as such will be cause for appropriate discipline actions.

"But all through my recovery, I received Owls from friends telling me that I needed to come back, that the House needed me, that I need to tryout for the Quidditch team this term again. Then more Owls arrived telling me that I might make Quidditch Captain or Prefect. I didn’t want to believe them, because I never believed that I was good enough to be either."
"But as more OWLS came in with the same rumors, I started to believe it. And so I started waiting for the OWL from Hogwarts to arrive. But they never came. That’s when I knew I shouldn’t have believed those rumors." Alyssa’s voice broke as she tried to hold back the tears.
"One week before school term was about to start, an OWL arrived with a note telling me that Nessie and Stephanie had been picked. I was happy for them because I knew that they deserved it. But I could see the disappointment on my family’s faces. And then I started to feel the disappointment too."
"I always thought I was doing everything right. I had attended all classes, completed all my homework, attended every possible Quidditch training session, but it seems that I was wrong. All my hard work was for nothing. Again, I hadn’t been good enough."
"To make my misery complete, an OWL arrived from Salem Institute. My eldest sister had been made Head Girl, while Cody, MY twin, had been made Quidditch captain.."
Alyssa couldn’t hold back her tears anymore. She looked up at Professor Hadley, tears trickling down her cheeks.
"Ever since I joined the school, I made sure that I didn't disappoint the school and my housemates. I didn’t want to be a disappointment to anyone here. But I must have done something wrong. Someone must not have liked what I was doing. What did I do wrong, Professor? Why wasn’t I good enough?"
"All this time I was worrying about the school and my friends, but now I know that the people I let down the most, is my family. I let my family down by being the first person to not make prefect or Quidditch Captain. They told me that it was okay. But I know they were saying that just to make me feel better."
She paused to take a breath trying to hold back the tears. "I’m a disappointment to my family like I knew I always would be and now I don’t know what to do. I feel like giving up and just be an average student because that seems to be what the school wants." and with those last words, Alyssa broke down and sobbed into her hands.

And so Fina waited, not terribly long, as a few moments later, the fifth year began speaking. More than she thought any one student could speak.
And so Fina simply nodded, as the fifth year went on in her long-winded speech. Rumors and owls about a speedy recovery and not wanting to come back. But then, an owl about Nessie and Stephanie? Wait, who was Stephanie? There was no Stephanie in Hufflepuff. Obviously though, under the distress that Alyssa was feeling, her mental acuity was off.
Dropping her quill on her desk, she leaned forward, propping her elbow on her desk, her chin in hand. And waited for Alyssa to finish, before she rummaged through her top drawer. "Peppermint humbug, please? I insist." She handed the girl two, and then popped one in her own mouth, as she carefully formulated her reply.
"Being average, dear, is entirely overrated. But, being prefect or quidditch captain is not everything either. Life is like a roller coaster. It has it's ups and downs. It has its twists and turns."
"Yes, I understand your disappointment, and I'm sure you feel like you're not living up to the 'Potter expectations', but believe me when I tell you that having a badge or not, is not the end of the world. Your hard work is never in vain, unless you choose to believe it is. There are hundreds of students in this school. I, myself, never got to be prefect or captain. And yes, I wanted it so badly, as I felt, ever since I undermined the family name and was sorted into Hufflepuff, not Ravenclaw, that I was a disappointment. But I picked my feet up, and marched right on to achieve 9 OWLs and 6 NEWTs. I never gave up."
She paused, swallowing the small bit of peppermint that remained in her mouth, undissolved.
"So all I really am trying to say is that, yes, your disappointment is not entirely unwarranted. But I don't think you should let it get to you. I think that you, of anyone, have what it takes to keep marching on. To prove that the world doesn't rest on who was prefect. Because really, in the end, we all live, and we all die. And in twenty years, who is going to care whether you were prefect? What will matter is where you end up after Hogwarts, which contrary to popular belief, isn't dependent on a piece of metal. In my eyes, everyone is a prefect. Everyone is a leader."

Alyssa wiped her tears from her eyes and forced herself to stop crying. She took the candy from the Professor but didn't pop them into her mouth as suggested by the Professor. She listened as the Professor tried to convince her that being a Prefect or a Captain wasn't important. That what was more important was what she chose to make of herself now. Whether to just give up now, or to just ignore the snub, and instead concentrate on doing well in her studies.
Alyssa kept silent as the Professor spoke and even when she finished. She had suspected that the Professor would say what she had just did. She was dissapointed that the Professor hadn't understood why having that piece of metal had been important to her. She had a feeling that no one else would either. The Professor did make sense about the importance of getting a good education because that would determine what she would become eventually as an adult.
But right now, her disappointment surpassed her desire to continue to work hard and do well in her lessons and subsequently her OWLs this term. Alyssa had some serious thinking to do. Something it seemed she would have to do on her own.
"Thank you for taking the time to speak with me, Professor. I promise you that I will think about what you said." Alyssa told her.
"May I have your permission to leave now?" Alyssa asked the Professor not wanting to walk out of her office which might look disrespectful.

Minerva was so excited she was almost skipping to the door of her head of house mom's door. She looked around for Sutton, but realized she had beaten her to the Professors Office. No matter, she would get here when she could, if she had extra time with Professor Hadley that was fine as well. They hadn't seen each other, other then that moment in the common room and that wasn't a good way to say hello. Minerva thought about why she was here and couldn't help let out an excited squeak as she knocked on the door. There was just so many great things going on in the future, well she hoped more then just one, but that would be determined after she spoke to Professor Hadley.
Minerva stepped back and waited for the answer at the door. She hoped the Professor was there, because that would be super sad if she wasn't. Frown...No she was there, she just must be there. Minerva smiled to herself again, the last few days had really shown and up hill for a yucky start of the term. Missing out on tryouts had made her sad but her super duper secret plan for the first Hufflepuff match to show house spirit was the first of the many great things that Minerva had dreamed up. Then there was the sleepover she had thought of with Laura, and now with Sutton's help this new little event. Sutton rounded the corner at the end of the hallway just in time to Minnie knocking on the professor's door. Speeding up, she ran the remaining length of the corridor and reached the door, not even a little bit out of breath. All of that running in the mornings was helping, apparently. Smiling at Minnie with an excited glint in her green eyes, she greeted the girl, "Hey Minnie! Sorry, I wanted to finish my essay first! I don't like leaving things almost finished!" Turning back, she waited eagerly for the door to open. Hopefully, Professor Hadley would be just as excited about their idea as she was. It was going to be the best event of the year, Sutton had a feeling. Between her awesome planning skills and Minnie's fun personality, how could it turn out anything less than awesome?

Josephina had been working steadily on her lesson plans. She was actually pleased with how well her planning was going; which meant that students were actually going to class and not causing trouble!? Impossible, considering the reckless state of the hourglasses.
No matter though; tucking a loose strand of hair behind her ear, she scratched absently behind her neck, deciding on a few other pointers, when she heard a knock. Followed by an excitable voice, which meant it wasn't just one visitor, but two?
Raising an eyebrow, she closed her folder of notes after all, she didn't want snoopers about the first lesson before it happened and called out, "Come in!"

Minerva heard Professor Hadley's voice and felt her heart jump at the excitement of them asking, but she was nervous as well. With the way the hourglass looked, maybe Hadley would turn down the idea. It would have to be presented in a good and just way. Yes, professional would have to be the way it would come across. Seeing Sutton take charge and head in the office Minerva followed. She liked coming into this office it was always nice to visit.
Minerva smiled at Professor Hadley and listened as Sutton began to talk. Right to the point, yes that was probably the best way to go. Once Minerva heard Sutton finish she smiled. "Yes, Professor Hadley, first I want to thank you so much for letting Laura plan the puff girls sleepover. I feel with the look of our hour glass we are in desperate need of house spirit and house pride. So hopefully with the sleepover we can have a chance for the girls to get to know one another and maybe come together as a house. " Yes that was a good way to start this, talk about the house points and house pride.. Plus the sleepover would be EPIC if it worked the way Min had it in her head.
"Well when Sutton and I were at Honeydukes we were talking about how we could do more. Plus, Sutton is knew and she mentioned she doesn't know to many Hufflepuffs yet and an idea came to us. We were thinking of maybe having a Hufflepuff get to know you celebration in the common room. Have snacks, maybe some music, and just a thing for puffs to get to know each other and bring some house pride to the boys and the girls. We don't want the boys feeling left out at all." Minerva realized she might be doing to much talking and stopped to see if Sutton had anything else to add or how Professor Hadley would feel about this idea, "Oh and being that it is a get to know you gathering, I thought maybe you could join us as well." she wanted to make sure she had invited the head of house to the party, yes of course they would want her there. Then maybe these trouble makers would see the head of house and stop.
Her stupid sign around her neck, Glenn slunk around the corridors until she reached her Head of House's office. She reached out a hand and knocked quickly. Standing outside the office, she watched the sides of the corridor. Come on. No one could come now - not while she had a sign literally announcing 'I LOST HUFFLEPUFF 50 POINTS'.
Hearing voices inside she panicked. Merlin. She wasn't going to walk in to Hadley talking to some other people, was she? She'd been avoiding human interaction today... and she still had another six days. Running a hand through her blonde hair, Glenn readied herself for the inevitable. Really, she would have preferred the dungeons to this.

"Well when Sutton and I were at Honeydukes we were talking about how we could do more. Plus, Sutton is knew and she mentioned she doesn't know to many Hufflepuffs yet and an idea came to us. We were thinking of maybe having a Hufflepuff get to know you celebration in the common room. Have snacks, maybe some music, and just a thing for puffs to get to know each other and bring some house pride to the boys and the girls. We don't want the boys feeling left out at all." Minerva realized she might be doing to much talking and stopped to see if Sutton had anything else to add or how Professor Hadley would feel about this idea, "Oh and being that it is a get to know you gathering, I thought maybe you could join us as well." she wanted to make sure she had invited the head of house to the party, yes of course they would want her there. Then maybe these trouble makers would see the head of house and stop.
A moment later, her office filled with the noises and appearances of two teenage girls; Sutton and Minerva. She was actually wondering when the latter would make an appearance at her office. And then were talking; Sutton first, about an idea they had, to which Minnie elaborated on.
"A Hufflepuff get-to-know-you celebration. Hmm, I like that." Fina said, nodding thoughtfully. "Actually, that sleepover thing, maybe even you could plan that post-celebration... and maybe get one of the boys ... Oakey? Messer? Jory? to plan one of the boys?" Yes, she could totally see that. Start off in the common room, everyone getting to know each other and getting wired on sugar and soda, before leading up to the dorms to get to know those of the same gender.

A moment later, her office filled with the noises and appearances of two teenage girls; Sutton and Minerva. She was actually wondering when the latter would make an appearance at her office. And then were talking; Sutton first, about an idea they had, to which Minnie elaborated on.

Sutton sat up straighter and scooted to the edge of her seat when Professor Hadley said she liked the idea. "Really? You like it?! I am so excited!!!" she said with that infectious giggle of hers. Becoming even more enthusiastic, she continued explaining what they had thought about so far. "Okay, so, we are thinking we should make it, like, something REALLY classy! There are already plenty of parties for people to show up in their spirit wear to after Quidditch games and stuff, so I think it would be fun to make it like a semi-formal/business casual sort of affair. Think, like, a cocktail party, but without the cocktails! And we could have like hors d'oeuvres and mocktails, which are like cocktails but with no alcohol..." she chattered on excitedly.
Then there was a knock, and the professor was inviting someone into the room. Sutton turned around in her chair to see who it was... she didn't want any of the other houses stealing their awesome idea!

She could come in? Uggggggh. Glenn opened the door and stood inside. Minerva and some younger puff. No. Why? She cast a panicked glance down at the sign and covered it quickly with her arm; the words still clearly visible after her making the letters so large. Trying to ignore her housemates, she turned to Professor Hadley and gushed, "I should go. It's fine - you guys talk about... whatever it is you guys are talking about." A cocktail party or something..? Whatever that was about. "I'll just... go. I'll go. Come back later when you don't have company."
The blonde ran her free hand through her hair - something she only did when she was nervous. See? THIS was why she'd been trying to keep away from people. So they WOULDN'T see that she had lost points - she also didn't want it getting out that she'd got lost, too. Now THAT, would be the most humiliating thing in the world.

Minerva smiled as Professor Hadley thought their plan was a good idea. Yes it was a good idea and she was super excited that they had the professor approval to do it. "Thank you Professor." she said before thinking about the sleep over, "Yes that sounds like a perfect idea. I am planning on seeing if we can borrow some games from the muggle studies classroom as well." She then thought about which boy she could speak to about making plans for the boys, "I could talk to Alec and see if he would want to lead the boys sleep over." yes Alec would be the perfect one.. She couldn't handle speaking with Oakey, she could hardly do anything around him lately without blushing let alone speak to him about a sleep over.
Minerva then stopped and looked at Sutton who got so excited she started going on about the different ideas that came up on how they could plan this gathering. She couldn't help but chuckle at Suttons excitement, hopefully all the puffs would be this excited over the ideas and it could end in some positive when their house was not doing such a positive job this term. She went to look at Professor Hadley again to get her thoughts when there was a knock.
Looking back she saw Glenn, "Hi Glenn" she smiled at the girl and then noticed the sign. Frowning not at the fact that she lost the points, well yes she wasn't happy she lost the points, but she frowned because she felt bad for her housemate. It was such a horrible punishment to have to walk around with a sign, but then Minerva thought about detention, no.. that would be probably the worse in her book, well that and being expelled. Minerva shivered thinking of something that horrible and turned her eyes away from Glenn so she wouldnt' be to embarrassed to have them see.

Not a bad thought; considering students spent the money on the dress robes, so they may as well get some use out of them, even if the school wasn't going to have dances regularly, that didn't mean they couldn't have their own private Badger!dance in the Common Room.
She nodded in agreement, as the door opened to reveal a fourth year, who was wearing a large sign around her neck. A sign which she tried, but failed to conceal the words. Words that would make any Head of House livid. "No. Come in, Miss Reyes," Hadley said, an idea now playing around in her head. "I'm fairly sure that Miss Piatek and Miss Wheatborn could use another brain to pick on their planning committee, and I think you would be perfect." Yes, a good way to pay back to the house, what she so carelessly lost.
"But before you get to the planning committee, then please, enlighten us about that sign." That was actually more of a mandatory requirement she explain. "And then, after that, I want you to know that I DO fully expect to see you in Arithmancy this term. No ifs, ands, or buts about it."

Pity. She didn't want people's pity. She - she got herself into into this. Glenn noticed Minerva's frown and tears pricked at her eyes. This punishment was turning out to be even worse than she thought it would be. Planning committee? For that dance thing they were going on about. Confused, Glenn looked to her Head of House. This badger wasn't stupid. She knew she wasn't being nice to her. There would be an explosion.
And BOOM! A silent explosion seemed to fill the office. "The sign," She said quietly, "Is a punishment. I went into the forbidden forest and I - I got lost." Glenn looked down at her hands that she'd clasped in front of her. No use trying to cover a sign that everybody already knew about. "I lost fifty points for being in the forest - instead of a detention I have to wear this sign for a week and - and I have to to t-tell my Head of House and prefects how I lost the points."
The tears that had pricked her eyes were now sliding down her cheeks. She let them fall. Staring down at her hands; Glenn ignored the others. She wished she had Treyen or her brother here, someone who she trusted. Having no friends wasn't the easiest thing.
Sutton didn't know the boys that Minnie and Professor Hadley were talking about, but the two of them obviously thought they could handle planning a sleepover for the boys. Yes, she had lost 50 points, but she honestly thought this was a cruel punishment... to embarrass her like this and try to turn her fellow housemates against her. Well, Sutton wouldn't do that, she wouldn't turn her back on someone just because they lost 50 points... they could easily make those points back up. But... there was something she didn't understand... "Why did you go in the Forbidden Forrest?" she asked the girl in a quiet voice.

She seemed to have gotten along with all of them which was a good thing.
Turning towards Glenn Minerva smiled at her and listened, she frowned as Glenn talked, "Well fifty points is a lot Glenn, but I think you can make them up with some hard work in classes. You have always been good at helping us in classes and homework. So I have faith in you." Minerva smiled to encourage her. She knew Glenn could earn those points back and to think positively Laura had to have lost more then fifty at some point in time before her change that she made this term. "The sign thing will all be over soon and people will forget about it don't worry, plus if you help us with this event and it's successful enough people will be happy with all of us." she really didn't like seeing Glenn cry and wanted to help.
Looking back at Professor Hadley Minerva hoped she didn't step on her toes by saying things to Glenn and looked down a bit shameful in case she did, but it was Professor Hadley that told her two terms ago that she needed to be a good role model for the younger puffs so she was at least showing she was trying to keep her word.

"But yes, like Minnie said, if this meetup goes well, people in Hufflepuff will remember that over some silly forest mishap. And if you're involved in the planning, well that will just look all the better for you. They'll soon forget the mishap ever happened."

Ugh. Crying. That was possibly the most girly thing in the world. She wiped them away with the sleeve of her blouse. Hearing the younger badger talk, she sighed and looked up, "I... live by a forest. I didn't think that the forest was actually that dangerous." And she was still sticking to that opinion. She just got lost - that was all. If she hadn't got lost she would've been fine.
As Minerva started talking, Glenn tuned out. She didn't want people telling her the sign didn't matter, she just wanted people to leave her alone for the week, not pay attention to it or the fact that she had lost points either.
She took the tissue and just clutched it in her hand, having already brushed away them with her sleeve. So, the decision was that she had to help with the planning, no? "May I sit down, then?" The blonde asked, her voice wavering slightly as she stared at the ground, her hair falling into her eyes.

Minerva listened to Glenn and didn't drop a beat when she realized the badger was going to have to just get over her point loss and move on. She hoped the party planning would help Glenn get her mind off the points and bring up her spirits along with everyone else in the house.
Turning back to Sutton and Professor Hadley now that all the explaining seemed to be over, "Well we need to come up with when are we going to have this party. Matches are going to be starting soon, so I don't want to interfere with that, but I think if we could bring up house spirit it could help with the Quidditch matches as well. " Yes that was the main goal, Hufflepuffs to meet and bring back spirit.. Someone might have to glue a shirt on the shirtless boy, but that was another thought for another time.

Jory had made his way to his Head of House's office. He had taken a bit longer than he usually would but he had taken his time since he was holding his newly created floral arrangement in both of his hands. He was proud of his creation even though it might not look as nice as the ones at a floral shop.
Balancing the arrangement under his left arm, the Badger raised his right one to knock on Professor Hadley's door.

Sutton sat by quietly as the others discussed the older girl's predicament. She must have been really scared, being lost in the forest. Luckily the groundskeeper had found her. If it had been Sutton, she wouldn't have been able to do anything but yell for help. Except Sutton would never go into the Forbidden Forest... she was way too scared... of the forest and of being in trouble.
Thinking about what Minnie said, Sutton finally spoke up. "Well, obviously it needs to be a weekend. Maybe we could do it on a Friday evening since Quidditch is always on Saturdays?" she suggested. "Oh! And we'll need to make signs, and should we ask the house elves to make food for us, or should we do it ourselves... I know they're usually pretty busy..." she said, looking around. Deciding to they really needed to involve the other girl, Sutton turned to her and smile. "What would you like to help with? Oh, and I'm Sutton, by the way..."
Then there was another knock on the door. Woah! This was just Grand Central Station today, wasn't it? Err.. Kings Cross Station? Since they were in Britain? ...
