When you first enter the Muggle Studies classroom, you can once again hear a variety of Muggle Superhero theme songs playing in the background and filling the classroom with excitement. On the front stage, a huge map of the world is hanging from the ceiling with all of the seven continents clearly highlighted.
Hanging on the walls are huge blank posters. Huge Balloon arches filled with blue, red, green, and black balloons are hanging from the ceiling and reach the floor.
There is a table in the corner with a variety of cookies decorated with the symbols of Muggle Superheroes and Villains. There are also glasses of Muggle Kool-Aid in Green, Blue, or Red.
There are no desks in the room, just a variety of different colored bean bags laid out all over the place. The bean bags have been charmed to be extra squishy and comfy.
On the board in the front of the room is a note that states:
Quote:
Welcome to Muggle Studies!
Please grab a cookie...or two...and have a seat in your soft bean bag!
See you in a few minutes!
OOC: Please come in and have a seat. Feel free to have small conversations but remember that Gemma is always watching. Class will officially begin this evening....

As his attention was to the ginger Head Gal he wasnt quite ignoring the young Lioness, who he did notice when she sat nearly at the same time he did but on Louisa's other side. And as soon as his hand was free of Louisa's offered cup he would be waving hello to little Lex. Of course, how could he ever forget the young one who considers him to be something like a walking plague?...
... And another wave hello to Max as his roommate settled beside them. Until now he wondered if he ever suspected his roomie to have messed up their dorms. They were only two of them there so.... he's blaming the plant. Yeah. When things go topsy turvy for no apparent reason always blame the plant. He can get Kitridge to back him up on this.
His gaze drifts up when Vivi walks into the room.... and keeps walking. All the way back to where Kurumi was sitting. He gave her a slow blink... how hard was it to ask Kurumi to join them, they all 7th years right? Last Class, Last Hurrah? No?
.... well that will have to be left unanswered since the Professor has entered the classroom, quite regular-like even. Except those heels looks quite painful. The overall effect on a woman's legs is fantastic, any hot blooded male will tell you that, but he could almost here the echoes from various women in his household whine about them.
Oh now we have the first question. He raises his hand as he replied "A Hero usually puts others' welfare ahead of themselves, even to the point of their own detriment.... which distinguishes them from the rest since it goes against the basic human nature of self-preservation and putting oneself first."
Yeah thats what crazy is, when its broken you say theres nothing to fix++++++++++++++++++++ +++++++And you pray that everything will be okay, while you're making all the same mistakes
"mmy guess is as good as yours!" Sarah said to Befelda. Then the lessson started

Sarah was going to say brave, yet when another person said that she had to think of another one - not that she had a problem with that. She had more then one thing she htought thry should have. she raised her hand and said,"t hey must never lose there mind and remain level headed in face of danger, calculating the risks."

Sierra looked around the room at all the blank posters. Real life superheroes, hmm? She smiled. This made her think of her father, the current Great Britain Minister of Magic. He'd always been here hero, and a few years ago, he'd so willingly moved over a bit to allow Sierra's mother to share that honor, as well. He'd saved her and made huge efforts to make her life better so many times.
Yes. He was her hero.
Still smiling, she raised her hand. "I know the superheroes in my life actually have many traits that make them worthy of superhero status. Some of the others have mentioned that they put others before themselves, and that's true, too," she said, lowering her hand. "I also think they have to be ambitious, too. They have to have a get up and go to get not just ordinary things done--but extraordinary things, too."
A lesson about superheroes in the real world. This would be good, except Nessie wasn't too sure whom she herself looked up to as a superhero. Her parents were definitely not people she looked up to even though that's how it should have been for most people. When it came to looking up to someone a few people popped into Nessie's mind, but now what she needed to know was what traits there had.
The usual pout formed onto Nessie's face as she tried to think a little. Superheroes were just humble and kind and always putting other people first. They were selfless people and people that tried to do as much good in the world as they could. They would help those in need and never allow evil to take over.
To sum that up, Renesmee raised her hand and waited her turn. "Professor Superheroes are kind and humble. They try to do as much good as they can in the world, even if it's just making someone smile. I believe that sometimes the smallest things can mean everything."answered Ness and then waited for the rest of the class to contribute too.
Gemma scribble down each of the students answers on the board excitedly...yes, they were all starting to get what a superhero was. She turned back to the class after finishing up the list and continued,
"Very very good everyone! You all brought up great qualities of a superhero....Yes, a popular Muggle Dictionary defines a superhero as 'any of various comic-strip characters with superhuman abilities or magical powers, wearing a distinctive costume, and fighting against evil'" she paused to let that definition sink in..."Now there is a similar definition for hero found in the Muggle Dictionary...it defines hero as 'A person who is admired for courage or noble qualities.' she smiled as she paced a little bit.
"You can clearly see the connection between the two...and from looking at your list of qualities a superhero has...it's obvious that many of the qualities could be linked to simple heroes...now I"m not saying that being a real life hero isn't extraordinary, but it is more likely to happen in our world and Muggle world than to see Superman flying around." she stepped a little bit forward. "Through the history of both Muggles and Wizards there have been real heros that have helped shape the future of each and both of our worlds and communities....but let's start a little closer to home..." she said with a little nod up and down.
"I want you to examine the very simple definition of a hero and look at the qualities of superheroes that we put on the board....think about your own life and share someone close to you that you know personally that you would consider a hero and tell a short summary of why you consider them a hero..." she said encouragingly walking toward the first blank poster.
OOC: Thanks everyone! We'll be back soon to post the next part! Don't forget the rules....
Sarah knew exactly who was her superhero, she raised her hand eagerly "my mother. She put her children and others first always. Sometimes she has to be told to take care of herself, she rises before dawn to make sure that we get up we will find cocoa and muffins. During the winter she would lay out our clothing and warm it up, so it is nice and cozy when we get dressed. When I was sick with chicken pox, my mother did not go to the event she had been long anticipating, yet rather she stayed home to be with me. She is determined that we have a proper education and a comfortable lifestyle and works hard to budget things possible. If a dark wizard would come and try to harm us or anyone, my mother would risk her life to save them. My mother also is extra ordinarily ambitious and optimistic, she fits so much into the day that she could be accused of using a time-turner! She also does a lot of kind acts in secret, not wanting recognition, yet us children see that and we too want to be like her. She is a supermom, nothing is too big or small for her to do or accomplish. She believes in all of us..." Sarah was about to ontinue, yet then remembered that it was meant to do a short summery. HER MOM WAS SPECIAL!

Awar raised her hand slowly, feeling nervous to be talking about her father. Nobody knew besides Presley. "My hero is my father. He loved our family immensely and fought to keep us protected and protected the streets of the magical world." A proud feeling replaced the nervous feeling.
Laura sat silently for a couple of minutes, she wanted to make sure she got this right, once she had thought of someone she looked at the Professor and raised her hand. "Professor I would say my twin sister, because she always helps me out and she is really kind and good and stops me getting into loads of trouble." Laura was sure a Hero would do that right.
Louisa beamed at Alexa when she sat down next to her. "Hey there!" The girl was growing on her really fast and she (Louisa) was feeling more and more guilty for that placebo thing. Sigh. Then Vickers came along with two cups of something. She extended her smile over to him and accepted the cup with a 'thank you' before she noticed Ethan walking in closely behind him. She waved at him and took a sip from her cup.
"What's up Max." She was excited now as well as sad in this last lesson of heroes. Then in the middle of chewing the cookie, Vivi walked in and straaaaight to the Gryffindor. Louisa continued to stare blankly at the two of them.

she said a she walked to the board and picked up a marker to start writing down all of the answers.
Lesson started then. Oh yeah, she was going to like this lesson. Hero's qualities were not so hard. Pretty much every good quality could pass for a hero quality. Raising her hand she offered, "I think they need to be selfless over any other quality, professor."

RATS. This was probably the most embarrassing frustrating question Louisa could ever be asked. She placed the empty cup by her feet and frowned, crossing her arms and leaning back against the bean bag. No one was a hero in her family. Her real father ran away when he got a daughter, her mum lied to her about him being a wizard then detested her for being a witch, and her stepdad thought she was an evil witch that was going to eat his sons while asleep.
.... his sons...
She raised her hand all of the sudden. "My ten years old brother, Jonathan, is a hero professor." Her hand was lowered as she continued, "He had a medical issue all his life and had to go to France for some special treatment and yet he never let us see him cry." He whined and was cranky but never broke down. "This might not be much but that's as far as heroism can go in my family." Plopping down on the bean bag and avoiding everyone's eyes. If Vickers tries to catch her hand, she's going to bite it. She did not need sympathy. Not now...
From her seat beside Max, Em shifted uncomfortably when they were asked to share a hero from their lives. The girl studied the list everyone had just created, and read the definition several times thinking. Okay, so there happened to be two people in her life that could qualify as heroes. They were the two most important men in her life. Her hand inched over to the boy beside her, and she held onto it. He was definitely a hero, the way he always protected her. The way he kept her on her feet all the time, and his fast reflexes when she was putting herself in danger trying to fly. Or the way he took care of Baby Badger. He was kind and gentle and always put others ahead of himself, but he would probably be very cross with her for saying all this aloud.
So raising her other hand she said. “My dad. He’s a squib, but he’s accepted it and doesn’t care about it. Unlike my aunt who hates me because I’m a witch and she’s a squib too. But my dad is proud of me and everything, and he always works really hard, taking care of our farm. He’s always willing to help others in need, even when he has needs himself.”

So, one quality that she that a superhero possessed? "Selflessness. Putting others needs before their own," Emmanuelle answered quickly. Well, it was true. One couldn't save the day without forgetting about their own needs and problems for awhile.
And then they had to give their own personal superhero. A little more personal of a question. Emmanuelle knew who she was going to say, though. "My older brother, Charlemagne. He has always been there for me, even when our parents were too busy fighting to pay attention to anything else," she said, choking up a bit. Well, it was a hard thing to talk about, especially now that it was happening all over again. She was thankful that now they were both too far away to have to be faced with it every day.

She could feel the eyes of her friends on her, but Vivi stared straight ahead at the professor with an expression of fixed interest on her face. It wasn't personal... except that it was totally personal. And Kurumi needed someone to sit by her anyway, so she was really just being a good friend.
The question was an interesting one, and Vivi's cheeks were a bit pink as she raised her hand to answer. "My mother is a hero, Professor, and I'm not the only one who thinks so. She was an Auror and nearly lost her life several times, and when her husband and best friend were killed in the line of duty, she didn't just give up and go live in a cave. She became a teacher, and later a Headmistress, and she devoted herself to making sure that students left Hogwarts as prepared as possible for the hardships of the world... but without making them fearful or heavy-laden. And even now that she's retired, she can't sit still and see bad things happen. She's been on several task forces for the Ministry and ITF, and she devotes her free time to philanthropic causes. She's impossibly good, I think, and I would... give anything to be more like her." Which was odd, because most of the time she acted like she didn't even like her mother.

A superhero in Ella's life? The third year knew her answer immediately though her reasons were kind of private. The mom stuff? Well Ella would never be fully comfortable discussing that in class. Besides, she'd be a wibbly mess if she did. She tried to think of a good way to explain without going too much into it. Blink.
"Professor? My Dad...he'd be my real life superhero. He's um...really brave in that he'll try anything once and erm...well he's not afraid to stand up for people. Like this one time...well he stopped this angry Dad who was yelling at his family, even though he didn't have to...Oh and he's really really kind. He's always smiling at people, even strangers. That helps, y'know...even if people don't think it's that big of a deal. And also he's the erm...the strongest guy I know. He um...he's strong for people when they can't be and he never complains so um...yeah." And the third year stopped because she was afraid if she kept going she'd get emotional about things...and stuff.
Even though Vivi had dissed him, Max was lucky that Emmaleigh had come to sit with him instead. They were still having their own little cool seventh year party, yeah? With a little bit of Lex on the side, which was tolerable.
Upon the asking of the professor's next question, Max slouched a bit in his blue beanbag chair. A hero he knew personally? His thoughts first went to the girl who grabbed his hand - he smiled at Em as she did so - and he wondered if her first thought was him, too. While he tried to decide who to mention, the Ravenclaw listened to the others talk. Louisa's hero surprised him - he didn't know anything about Louisa's family life, and certainly not that she had an ill little brother. A wave of melancholy washed over him as she finished speaking, which didn't disappear until Emmaleigh spoke up about her father. He smiled as she spoke, suddenly quite anxious to meet the man whose daughter was speaking so highly of him.
Following Vivi and Ella's lead on sweet spiels about parents, Max raised his own hand. "I think my mom is a hero 'cause she's... well, a lot of professional Quidditch players let the fame and glory go to their heads, but she's kept a level head about everything and just loves the game. She's a good role model for aspiring pro Quidditch players in that sense, and... she's really compassionate, wants to help everyone, always donated a chunk of her earnings to various organizations... she hasn't lost her heart of gold."
Gemma clicked into the room in a tailored black suit jacket and pencil skirt with silver sparkly heels on. She smiled at each of the students as she clicked through the classroom. This lesson was going to be a little bit different than the others. It would be less theatrical in a sense.
When she finally reached the front of the room, she glanced across the class and then walked to the board and erased the welcome message and then she turned back around.
"Welcome everyone once again to Muggle Studies. This will be our final lesson of the term...my how time has flown by this term!" she said with a little nod up and down. "We have focused on superheroes and villains from the Muggle community over the past few lessons and today we take those lessons to a new level."
Slowly she motions to each of the posters that are blank and hanging around the room, "You'll notice that the posters this class are blank...that's because ya'll are going to help me identify whom you each believe are the real superheroes in the history of both Muggle and Wizarding Society."
"So, let's get this started with a little review to get your brains going...Please remember to raise your hand with your answer....Everyone please share one trait that you feel like a Superhero should possess.."

Belle wondered what a hero of her, what qualities would they possess. Belle then raised her hand. "Professor i think a hero would have the trait of to not be selfish. They always think of others before themselves. They will do anything they can to help you and others even if it means death."

Belle thought about who her hero was. Well Belle could answer that in an instant. It was her grandfather. Belle raised her hand and said, "Professor my grandfather is my hero. He was a fireman in the muggle world, so he saved lives from people in burning buildings and even sometimes helped my mom when she burned her meals. Then in the muggle world he was an auror and he fought dark wizards. He saved my life once from a dark wizard when i was just a baby. I think i could consider him a hero. He always put his family first before others. He was never selfish and i love him. I still miss him very much."

A short summary of a real-life superhero, hmm?
This was easy. Sierra had already decided her real-life superhero was her father. She swiped her quill off her desk, readied it at a piece of parchment, and prepared to write.
...but wait. A thought came to Sierra's mind. What about her mother? The parent that was dying. Her heart caught in her throat, and in just that instant, she changed her mind.
Her mother was her real-life superhero. Or, at least, the one she'd focus on today. With that, she began to write.
Blood is thicker than water, but love is thicker than blood. I know this, because I was adopted. When I was younger, my mother chose me instead of fate choosing me for her. She didn't want children. As a matter of fact, she didn't even enjoy being around children. It took her a really long time to come around and accept me just as her boyfriend's daughter. Then one day, she told me she wanted me to be her own. We'd been around one another long enough for her to grow to love me, and she wanted to be my mother, since I didn't have one.
On her wedding day, the day she married my father, she gave me a ring and said her own vows to me. She promised to love me and take care of me forever. The adoption papers were signed, and she officially became my mother. She'd been my mom for a really long time before that, though. She's my hero. She may seem harsh and unkind to some people, but to me, she has a heart of gold. People don't see her the way I see her. When I'm not feeling well or upset over something, she lays down with me and holds me until I fall asleep. She makes me feel like all the evil in the world is nothing more harmful than a flobberworm.
I used to worry about the fact that I didn't biologically come from her, but she reminds me all the time that that doesn't matter. As I said before, blood is thicker than water, but love is thicker than blood.
She sighed. She wasn't sure what part of this she wanted to say aloud. Definitely not all of it...
"Professor?" she said, raising her hand. "My mother is my hero. Well, one of them, but today, she's the one I'm focusing on." Sierra looked down at her parchment, where everything was written down. She scanned through it, picking out what she wanted to say. "Well, when I was younger, something happened to my biological mother, and she and I grew apart before...well, I never saw her again." Sierra still wasn't sure what happened. Nevermind that, though. "I was adopted, and that's only one small reason my mother is my hero. I used to worry about the whole 'real mom' kind of thing, because I was afraid that mattered to some people. My mother reminds me all the time, though, that it doesn't matter to her. We always say that blood is thicker than water, but love is thicker than blood."
Okay, great...now she felt like a Puffer.

Would you look at that. So the boy wasn't ignoring her. Well then...she shot him a wide smile when he waved at her before turning her attention back to the Professor. She wasn't even gonna question why Vivi wasn't sitting with them, for all she knew they probably did something terrible to her and she was being much too polite to punch them for it.
She thought about the question asked for a moment. Hmmm....who would she consider a real life hero...?
When she was quite sure her mind was completely made up she raised her hand and offered her response as well. "My Daddy's a hero. He always knows what to do to make me smile and he doesn't let anyone bully him into changing the way he disciplines me." Many people had tried telling him to change his approach but he wouldn't let them tell him how to raise her and she was happy for that. "And no matter how much work he has or how busy he is he always makes sure that he has enough time for me at the end of the day."
Best. Father. Ever.

Minerva smiled as Ethan sat down next to her and she said Hi to Belle as well. Then it was time for class to start. Sitting up in her bean bag chair she got ready to listen about super hero's again. What was something a super hero needed to have. Minerva tried to think of something that she felt they needed, well they needed superhero powers, right.. Putting up her hand "Professor, Hero's need to have bravery." Couldn't have a wimpy superhero now could we.

Minerva listened and then her head dropped, she knew exactly who she would say, but could she talk about him. She had never spoke about him much around Hogwarts he wasn't someone she felt others would enjoy hearing about. Putting her hand up she hesitated and talked a little quieter then usual, "Professor, I would consider my dad a hero and he is my hero. He was a muggle and was in the U. S. military. We moved around a lot because he had to be in many places and I didn't see him much, because he would go risk his life for us. So to me his bravery to defend and protect us made him a hero." She put her head down trying not to show much emotion, but thinking about him made her a bit upset.

Jory raised his hand. "My dad is my hero,'' he began. "He's a detective and everyday he puts his life in danger just so he can help families who have lost someone. Sometimes he's even injured on the job but he still goes on with it. He says it's the best job in the world and he wouldn't trade it for any other one.'' The boy paused wondering what his dad what doing at that moment. Probably following some lead. "Even though he has a hectic job he's always there for my mom, sister and I.''

A trait that a superhero should possess......Alex thought about that carefully. She raised her hand as she decided on her answer. "Professor, Alex said. I think that a Superhero should be modest. It wouldn't be good for him or her to waste time thinking about how great they are. The Superhero should be focused on doing good and helping others, not on themselves."
After the students talked about hero qualities, the Professor wanted them to talk about their personal heroes. Alex raised her hand again. "My uncle is a hero to me. He is a police officer in the muggle world. He puts his life on the line every day to protect the citizens in his district and his fellow police officers. I think that makes him a real hero."
As each student mentioned their personal heroes, the professor wrote their name and the name of their personal superhero on the blank poster hanging from the ceiling until slowly but surely the poster was full of names. Finally, she added her name and her brother's name, "Thank you everyone for sharing your personal heroes...my personal hero is my brother...I only have one brother whom is younger than me....he disappeared many years ago but he was always so strong and optimistic....and I know he's out there being someone else's hero right now and that someday I'll get to see my hero again..." she let her words fade off and was internally pretty proud of herself for sharing even this little opening to her past with her brother.
She quickly continued, "There are always famous people from our history both Muggle and Wizarding that can be considered real life superheroes because of the amazing feats that they accomplished during their times...these individuals were influential not only during their times but in the future of the world..." she said as she walked to the next poster hanging from the ceiling. "For instance, in the Muggle World, a real life superhero could be Isaac Newton. He was a nEnglish physicist, mathematician, astronomer, natural philosopher, alchemist, and theologian. His law of universal gravitation and three laws of motion laid the groundwork for classical mechanics." she said as she wrote his name on the poster. "Or those men and women that fight for our various countries in the armed services and such could be considered real life superheroes..." she wrote this on the poster. "An example in the Wizarding World could be Albus Dumbledore..." she finished by writing his name on the poster.
"If everyone will grab a marker..." she said motioning to a little basket below the remaining two posters on the walls, "Please come up and give us an example of a real life Muggle Superhero and a Real Life Wizard Superhero and what they did they makes you feel like they are a hero and then add their names to the appropriate poster..." she said as she wrote Muggle in the middle of one poster and Wizard in the middle of another.

Minerva listened to all the stories and then felt a sadness as she heard the Professor talk about her brother. Where could her brother have gone, that was just horrible. She knew where her superhero was, she knew how he and her mother had gone, but to not really know where they were would be horrible. Coming back from her thoughts she listened to the next direction and got up heading to the posters. Taking a nice Red maker Minerva went from one poster to the next writing down her answer.
Muggle Abraham Lincoln- stood up for what he believed was right and got the 13th Amendment in place, lead the country through a civil war and in the end was able to reunite the United States.
Wizard Professor Snape- worked towards a better place even though he had to hide his true bravery. Sided with evil just to bring good back.
Once Minerva was done writing down her answers she put the markers back and headed back to her bean bag. Grabbing a few more cookies along the way. After talking about her dad she felt the need for more sweets.
As Belle was hearing all the stories her fellow classmates were telling. All of them were really touching. Then she heard the professor share her story. Now that was a heart felt story. Aww he passed on? That was so sad but at least he lived a good life. Then the professor asked they come to the board and write down their favorite hero of the muggle world and wizard world. Belle had to think...Then she had an idea!
Muggle World:
Harriet Tubman- she led more than 70 slaves out of slavery using the underground railroad. She saved innocent lives.
Wizarding World:
Lilly Potter- she saved her son from the killing curse from the evil Lord Voldemort. She sacrificed her own life out of love for her own son.
As Belle was done writing down her list, she felt her answers were good enough. She saw Minnie wrote her answers down and she gave a friendly wave. Belle went back to her seat and sat down waiting for the next set of directions.

Professor Cerulean's story tugged at Jory's heart as had everyone else's. He didn't know what he would do if his sister went missing.
Back to the activity at hand, Jory grabbed a marker. He began to write:
Muggle Superhero:
Mariska Hargitay- Founder and President of the Joyful Heart Foundation. Her Foundation works to council and make a better life for people who are victims of abuse and domestic violence.
Wizarding Superhero:
Neville Longbottom- one of the many who worked hard to vanquish the Dark Lord.
