| | Dueling Arena Stepping into the arena, you are immediately enveloped with the light shining into the room, either morning or evening depending on what time you decide to enter. The the very right of the room, there is the long platform in which surpervised duels will take place while four benches on either side are placed at a safe distance for those who would like to sit and watch. Just ahead of the platform in the right corner, there is a door, though pay no attention to it. It's locked for a reason.
Towards the back wall, there are various types of practice dummies, both stationary and moving (with different speeds), depending on what difficulty the practicer wants. Don't be afraid to go all out with your spells, for these dummies are charmed to repair themselves. There is one practice dummy set aside that will shoot spells back to the practicer, however, permission from a Professor is required to use it. To the left side of the arena are two sets of stands, eight seats high, that look out to the entire arena, comfortable for those who would just like to watch what's going on all around or for general purposes such as studying or relaxing after a long day in the arena.
The middle of the room is quite empty, due to the fact that the defense Professor enjoys presenting lessons in here, but please, despite the brilliant light that shines through the arena due to the large windows, it is not some place to sunbathe or fall asleep. You will be levitated out with a good dose of cold water splashed on you if caught. OOC: All SS Board and School Rules apply |

"Not bad, Greingoth," she called out as she passed. "Try not to get taken out by the second year." Hehe. Hearing her name, Sierra relaxed her posture just a bit (although not enough to get taken by the second year) and then turned toward Vivi with a smirk. "Psh. I have this," she said, so confident that she'd stop mid-duel and have a conversation.
She looked toward the second year. It was Sierra's turn again, so she assumed a proper dueling stance and raised her wand again. Making that now familiar u-shaped formation, she flicked her wand forward. "Petrificus Digitirus!" she said. "Hey, Viv," she said, turning back to the Ravenclaw girl. "You want to practice the second spell with me? Sixth year versus seventh year?" Oh, yeah. That was a challenge.

It seemed rude to steal Sierra away from her ickle partner, but Vivi was ashamed of the way Gideon had defeated her so soundly when they had dueled earlier. She nodded at the sixth year and deposited her bag and book on the nearest bench before stepping closer to Sierra.
"By all means. I hate this spell, so I will do everything in my power not to get hit, including throwing furniture at you or lighting you on fire. Just for information's sake."

"By all means. I hate this spell, so I will do everything in my power not to get hit, including throwing furniture at you or lighting you on fire. Just for information's sake." Sierra smirked in amusement at how adamant Vivi was about hating this next spell and doing whatever was in her power to avoid it. "Well, we'll just have to see about that, now won't we?" she remarked, and then she assumed a dueling stance and aimed her wand forward.
Now Vivi Branxton was a challenge. Sierra had felt cool and confident against the little Gryffindor, but seeing a seventh year before her was something else. She focused all her attention on Vivi, not even daring to look away or get distracted.
...and then she jabbed her wand forward. "Torparticus!"

It was nice that Sierra was taking this seriously, that her solemn little face was set in anxious lines as she drew her wand and pointed it at Vivi. Vivi took up a dueling stance, her wand balanced on her fingertips and her weight settled back for easy springing.
She hadn't lied when she said she didn't want to be hit by this spell... it was a beast. When Sierra cast, Vivi moved immediately, throwing up a nonverbal Protego and bouncing the spell right back at the girl. It was followed immediately by the next incantation, "Torparticus!"

Sierra paused for a moment, a thought occurring to her. Vivi had done that non-verbally. Protego, she meant. Sierra wanted to start non-verbals, too, but she was too proud to ask Vivi to help her. Her mother. That's who she'd ask. Just as soon as her mother got all better, which she would, Sierra would ask her if they could start non-verbals soon.
Sierra was so focused on learning non-verbals that she nearly missed the casting of Vivi's spell. She didn't have enough time to cast. She darted out of the way so quickly that she lost her balance and ended up on the floor on her stomach. She'd dodged the spell, though. So not classy. She eyed Vivi, knowing the girl would have something to say about it.
Before even getting back on her feet, she jabbed her wand forward. "Torparticus!"

The spell had gone wild and missed her, but she liked that the girl had cast against her from the ground. It was a surprisingly bold move and showed gumption. Gryffindor gumption plus Slytherin wiles could be a great dueling combination, if Sierra could pull it off.
"Focus, now." She brought up her wand to catch Sierra's eye before casting against the girl again. "Torparticus!"

"Focus, now." She brought up her wand to catch Sierra's eye before casting against the girl again. "Torparticus!" Sierra sort of mentally hissed over the fact that Vivi seemed to be talking to her like she thought Sierra had to try extra hard to keep up with her. Sierra wished, just at least once, that her spell would hit Vivi head on. She'd love to see the girl squirm. It'd be nice for a change.
Sierra scrambled off the floor just in time to hear Vivi cast again. This time, she was ready. "Protego!" she said, not non-verbally, like Vivi, but just as effective. The spell bounced off her shield. Sierra passed a grin in Vivi's direction then jabbed her wand forward, determined to not miss a beat. "Torparticus!" she said.
She hated the fact that Vivi was doing this non-verbally.

She hated the fact that Vivi was doing this non-verbally. The scowling and face-making didn't go unnoticed, and Vivi had to mentally check herself. This wasn't like teaching spells to Lex or training with Vick. Her inner encourager was obviously being taken entirely wrong by the Slytherin girl.
But she was NOT going to let the girl hit her with that spell. It felt terrible, and her hands took ages to regain full feeling and function. When Sierra cast again, Vivi raised her wand and cast another Protego.
There now... she'd practiced the spell AND been hit with it. Wasn't Sierra an expert?

When Selina sent a spell back at her, Kurumi pivoted slightly to avoid it from hitting any part of her while also casting a quick Protego just in case. She didn't fancy any of her limbs going numb right now.
Spinning out of her pivot, Kurumi pointed her wand at Selina again - unfortunately her aim was a little lower than she had intended and was around the girl's knee. "Torparticus!" The redhead was a tad too cocky in her dueling technique for her own good. She had thought, stupidly, that because Kurumi was her best friend this fight would be easy and she would not have to put ANY effort into it. Yeah, that was where she had been horribly wrong. Kurumi was not trying to hurt her friend, but she should have known that it was in the KURINA way of life that all ridiculous things that could happen WOULD happen. And so they did.
So when Kurumi threw her next spell at Selina, the redhead did not even bother blocking. Kurumi would not have aimed to hurt Selina... boy, was she wrong. Suddenly it made impact with her leg and Selina let out a giggle. It was sort of ticklish and a little numb.. and WHAT WAS HAPPENING?!
Her leg started to wobble a bit but she ignored it and just threw another spell at her friend's shoulder, "Torparticus!"
