Marion stood behind her desk, feeling rather snug in a sweater that was a little too big for her. She had decided to shut the windows to keep the chilly air from breezing in but the room was still a little cold.
Walking over to one of the windows, she peered down through the glass. She admired the view whilst she waited for the kids to arrive. She smiled slightly, looking forward to seeing her students again.
OOC: The lesson will start in around 12 hours. Please keep the chatting to a minimum
Class has started, lovelies. Pleeease don't post your charries arriving now!
Stars were actually quite pretty, and on the odd ocassion Ness didn't mind star gazing out in the sky with her own eyes rather than telescopes. It was beautiful to see the stars at night, especially when they made all sorts of beautifull shapes and it was nice way to get your mind off things for a change. It was for this reason, that Ness didn't mind Astrology as a subject, it was interesting at times.
A constellation? That was simple...almost everyone knew what that was right?
Trying not to giggle at the way the Professor spoke, Renesmee politely raised her hand. "Professor, isn't a constellation a group of stars in the sky?" That's what she knew about them. She wasn't very well knowledged on astrological things, but she at least knew what the Milky Way was, and a few things about stars such as what they seemed to be disscussing today.

Settling in to her seat a little more and labeling her parchment, Kurumi glanced up with Professor Burbage began the lesson. So...they were going to be doing telescope work today then?
Leaning back for a bit and listening to a few others give their answers, Kurumi chewed on her lip for a moment before raising her hand. "Constellations aren't real," she began. Not that they didn't exist, but they were not exactly something that was 'natural' in the scientific sense of the word. "They are something human made that help break up the sky and help us tell which stars are which. They serve as more mnemonics to help us understand the night sky."

STAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARS.
All Kat knew about this so-called constellation was about staaaaaaaaaaars. Shiny staaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaars. Kat and her dad used to stargaze and watch those beautiful constellations hanging to the night sky before. But that was before. Now all they do is talk about school. Which is boring...
So boring...
Very boring...
But you get the point.
"In Astronomy, it's a group of stars forming a shape or a figure," Kat said. "But in Astrology, it is the arrangement or position of the heavenly bodies specifically the planets." It was that easy. No one had to bang their hand on the table to know the answer. No one had to read a book to look for the answer. Oh for Merlin's sake, no one had to even THINK to know the answer.

Hey, at least this sounded normal!
"Constellations are things that we humans create to help remember where certain stars are. They're a group of stars, pretty much. They're also just fun to look at and be able to recognize," Cardigan said, raising her hand high in the air. This question seemed normal enough. The worst they could do was go out and look for certain constellations, but it wasn't dark out.
This lesson could do no harm!
Except, freeze her to death. Cardigan didn't like how the professor had the window wide open. It was the middle of December for Pete's sake!! She pulled her robes tighter around her, and slid farther down her seat. It was too cold for her!! She should've been smart and brought a hat and gloves, and definitely worn an extra sweater.

Minerva was sitting looking at the other students that came in and waved to the ones she knew and smiled at most of the ones she didn't. Then she saw Ethan come in, she hadn't spoke to him since the match. He didn't even look at her, well she didn't blame him. Then there was Elliot.. Would she ever just get over herself. Minerva was so over her and was over all the annoyance, she made sure to send a glare right back and then turned her focus on the professor for class to start.
Minerva smiled as the professor started, well she didn't seem so bad. She was calling them darlings, that couldn't make you bad. Minerva thought for a second about what she knew about constellations. Thinking about it she put her hand up, "Professor, aren't constellations a grouping of stars." Minerva sat hoping she was right.
Sophie walked aaaalllll the way up to the Astronomy Tower again. She was coming from her Common Room, so it was a long, long walk, but she had already gotten used to it and didn't mind it at all. It was good exercise, wasn't it?? It sure was!
Smiling, she stepped into the room and saw some friends and the professor there. "Hello, professor!" She greeted her cheerfully as she walked over to sit next to a younger eagle. "Hey there, Nigel!"Waaave. Sophie didn't even ask if she could sit there, because... it wouldn't be a problem, right?
Nigel was daydreaming about something about something. He could not remember. But he was startled a little when he heard Sophie say his name. He turns toward her and waves back. He had no problem with her sitting next to him. "Hey, Sophie" He said before turning back to answer the professor's question.
"Professor, It is a group of stars making shapes or stuff"
Yep sounded about right. He did like a couple of them like Hercules. He was cool.

So...Elliot was content to just, you know, relax before the lesson started. Apparently, Burbage wasn't. She was already firing a question at them! constellations? Well, Elliot was NO science person. At all.
Sigh.
Astronomy wasn't magic enough for her..yet. She raised her hand..."Constellations...like the big dipper and stuff? Aren't they patterns that stars make in the sky?" right?
Whatever.

Constellations? Hm. Ella knew what they were. She'd seen them before, the groups of stars. Some were bigger than others and they made shapes that resembled different things. Yeah...those were constellations.
"Professor, a constellation is a group of stars that you can see at night in the sky." There. Short and sweet and to the point. Taa-daaaa.

Constellation.
Aye he had heard of the term before and nodded to her question about to raise his hand. You really couldn't be as familiar as he was with astronomy without knowing it. However as Gideon opened his mouth to speak and give his answer, a few of his classmates had already spoken up. Their answers giving a wide overview of the term and including anything his mind could come up with to describe them himself. Oh well, let the other students answer this one, he mused to himself, the seventh year simply listening and nodding to show understanding and agreement to what was being said.

Okay, so she didn't want anything too specific? Sierra could handle that. She raised her hand, even though a good many of her classmates had already spoken up. "A constellation is a group of stars in the sky that form a certain image," she said. Yeah. That was basic enough. She guessed they'd get into the different types of constellations and what they all meant during the lesson.
Then again, this was Burbage's class. They might just break out into song any second now, too.
A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.
Constellations? Daichi let out a soft tired chuckle. He remembered asking Professor Roslund about it once during one of his classes and even though it didn't seem important back then it was coming handy now, because...you know..he knew the answer hehe.
He raised his hand slowly in the air as his other hand went to his mouth to cover up a yawn. No offence to the subject but he was just tired. "Constellations are a group of stars and we draw imaginary lines to connect them and they make shapes...right?" he answered and lowered his arm and now rubbed his left eye.
Sophie smiled at Nigel once he greeted her and turned to look around just in time to see Elliot glaring at her. The badger frowned and sent a glare back at the evil eagle. Sophie wasn't crazy and did not want to get in trouble, so she did her best to ignore the meanie head for now.
Good thing, because professor Burbage was already asking a question. She raised her hand before speaking. "Constellation is a bunch of stars that, together, form a... constellation." Um... Blink."Like, there's the Little Dipper and the Big Dipper. They are constellations, since it's a group of stars that make them be... what they are."
Oh well, they got the point, right?

That had been a simple enough question. Burbage didn't want specifics, so Max raised a hand, trying to be as general as he could while not sounding too much like everyone else.
"Constellations are... named patterns of stars, formed by many societies and passed down over time. They, y'know," shrug, "help divide the sky into smaller segments." That was probably good enough.
Astronomy...round two. she wasn't looking forward to this. Nope. Not at all. That Burbage woman...was super annoying...and Elliot didn't know HOW she would sit through another lesson with her..it would be VERY hard not to get lippy with her...
Her bag slung over her shoulder, her blonde hair tied back in a sleek bun, her blue eyes roved around the room for someone familiar to sit with. They rested on lucky contender: JAYDEN TROUTWATER! She smirked at her friend and immediately headed her way...
She saw Ethan and gave him a nod and a wave...nice guy. Really nice guy. Now...who she was wanting him to go out with..well..that was a different story...poor kid. So many crushes on him. life must be SO hard.
*smirk*
She sent glares!scowls at the usual hufflepuffs that she hated...first at Minnie, who she had HEARD had a crush on Ethan...no, sweetie, you don't. Because Elliot was NOT letting that happen..nope. She saved her most menacing one for Soapy, though...because Elliot liked to annoy her...hehehe.
Laura was there...too. Hmph.
She plopped down next to Jayden.."Hey," she said, raising her eyebrows.
Jayden smiled, nodding politely at her best friend as the girl sat down. Class had started, but the least Jayden could do was let her friend know she had been seen. But there was absolutely NO way she was going to speak in class. At least out of turn. The Ravenclaw's were still in the lead with house points, and she preferred to keep it that way. And now the Professor was beginning her sing-song speech.
LOVELY.

Jayden smiled, nodding as her friends and fellow classmates put their two cents in. "Professor, I do believe a constellation is just a grouping of stars.." She answered slowly, unsure of how exactly to answer the question any better than the rest of the students had.
Would she just shut up already? Presley didn't want to be here. This was the stupidest and most pointless class at Hogwarts because of the teacher. Whatever. What was a constellation? What was this, a kindergarten class? "Pretty pictures in the sky," she muttered under her breath. If they were going to be treated like five year olds, that was the answer a five year old would give. And there was no way the professor had heard that answer, so it wasn't as if Pres could get in trouble for it. She raised her hand. "Constellations are the way humans have grouped their vision of the stars to form understandable patterns, such as pictures." Presley's mum had taught her to recognize the major ones when Pres was teeny tiny. They had been sleeping outside on the grounds of the Geneva Mansion. It was one of the clearest memories Presley had of her mother.

Laura looked at the Professor and smiled. "A constellation is a cluster of stars, you know your famous when you have a star named after you." Laura smiled "one day there will be a start called the Hyde star and it'll be in it's own little constellation." Laura was sure that was right.

Someone was excited to be there. Vivi cast a glance over her shoulder at the visibly bouncing Vickers and at Gideon, nodding along as if he agreed with everyone. It seemed as if the question had been sufficiently answered anyway, but the overachiever-Claw raised her hand anyway.
"Because the relative position of specific stars and clusters of stars can be used seasonally and chronologically to determine the relative position of, say, an explorer or mariner, being able to identify these stars quickly and easily would become a priority to those who relied on them. Naming stars and the constellations they are located within probably helped with that." Vivi paused and added thoughtfully, "It probably was also a comfort, to think there's a rhyme and reason to the universe. That's why myths and legends seem to be created, and why so many of them appeared in the night sky."

Cassia had to give it to this Professor, the woman was the beaming and nice kind. Which was really rare around Hogwarts. You know as Lafay and Scabior were quite the opposite. The others were nicer but none BEAMED and smiled that much. If students were to give points to Professors, Burbage would have gotten a lot from Cassia. Ignoring that Astronomy wasn't really Cassia's thing. But she actually didn't even have a thing.
So constellation was a familiar word to her. She knew the general terms and thank you for considering student's with not so vast knowledge. The second-year raised her hand, "It's a bunch of stars." She said short. "They are in the sky," That wasn't really required. "They appear as groups." Wasn't the accurate academic term but she was saying what she knew in her own words.

Oh, first question. And it was an easy one too. He might not be the best at science, but he did know a fair bit about Astronomy, and he definitely knew what constellations where. Raising his hand, he said, "constellations are groupings of stars in the sky, commonly named after and related to ancient mythology. There are tons and tons and tooooons of them, and they are used a lot for navigation, going off of their position in the sky."
Sean sat there thinking. Constellations hmm.. He thought to himself. He knew exactly what they were, considering he knew a handful of them. His family camped a lot and out in the wilderness you could really see the stars.
"Professor, a constellation is a grouping of stars said to form an image. They were used in the past to help explorers navigate." He said, he didn't want to be super specific because the professor wanted a generalization.

Constellations? Who didn't know what those were, even if they couldn't figure out how to connect the stars, so to speak. "They are groups of stars that form a picture. They're usually given a Latin name, which is then translated into English such as Canis Major or the 'Dog Star', also called Sirius. Emmanuelle answered, blushing a little at sounding like a know-it-all. Then again, it was entirely possible that she'd mixed up some of her facts in there.....

Jory raised his hand. "It's a group of stars, Professor,'' he began. "The form a pattern and are usually given a name.'' He think he got that right. At least that's what he remembered from his readings.
Oh. First question. Constellations? He knew this. Messer raised his hand up in the air. "Constellations are groups of stars that form pictures in the sky. People also use constellations to help them find their way when they travel, Professor." Or they used to, before they found more modern gadgets.

Astronomy again. Sigh! she was just going to have to make the best of it. At least she had her partner in crime with her. Still she hoped they wouldn't be doing something so muggle-ish this time around. Save that for muggle studies. K? Thanks! Oh yeah Hannah was in one of her moods.
They weren't wasting any time today. Another sigh. What did she know about the constellantions? Not much really. Still she would add her two cents anways...something she was sooo good at. "Professor a constellation is a defined area of the celestial sphere." Stars and stuff. That's all she knew though. Don't ask her to go into any more than that because she really didn't have any ideas.

Constellations! Awar loved staring at the night sky and tracing them. As matter of fact, the night sky intrigued her anyways! That's why she was always so excited to attend Astronomy. Not to mention, the professor was a joy to watch. "Constellations are groups of stars that form a picture of some sort and many humans have put stories behind them to explain their existence."
