Default 1 - Dreamer's Elixer

Hecate had just returned from St Mungo's. She was very pale, and the bags under her eyes were dark and gray. Her lips were dry and she looked as if she'd lost weight.

The healers of the third floor were not happy that she'd released herself. But Hecate Lafay was not going to remain in that horrid hospital room. She'd gotten back a few moments ago and she was going to hold a class.

Even if it killed her.

She opened the door to the classroom and sat behind the desk.

ooc: This class will stay open for at least 72 hours (probably more.) Also thanks to Nixy! and AuroraQuinn for taking the picture of the Potions Classroom for me, and to Anna Banana for making it into a pretty graphic!

Carefully looking for the vein on one of the leaves (which was easier than one might think), Emmanuelle eventually found it and sliced right down it. Doing it for the other seven leaves, she then gently dumped them all into her potion. Once that was done, she picked up her pestle, gave it a quick Scourgify, then dipped it carefully into her cauldron. Hmmm, a bit warm..... She pulled it back out of the potion quickly, giving a few good shakes to get the excess potion off. Placing the seeds into her mortar, she began to crush. Quickly, they took on a consistency that really reminded her of vomit. Ugh, gross. Trying not to think of this, she crushed a little more, until they looked like a brown paste, then spooned them into her potion, using the wooden spoon, of course.

No color change yet, hmm? Vivi peeked once again into her cauldron and sighed happily over the fact that the color remained unchanged. Probably because this was a subject in which she was already more than competent.

At the next direction from the professor, Vivi dropped her sliced leaves into the cauldron, holding her breath as the potion once again stayed exactly the same color. It was actually a little disappointing not to see more dynamic change in the state of her potion.

Ah, well.

The seeds went into her mortar, and Vivi dampened the end of her pestle in the cauldron. Merlin, that was warm, and the steam nearly had her dropping the pestle straight into the cauldron. Somehow, she managed to hold on tight, and she dried her fingers on her robe before regripping the pestle. How mushy was mush? Pulverized, or did the professor merely want a paste? Evenly mashed, or could there be lumps?

Vivi tended to overdo things, so she mashed the seeds until they were an even-and-nonlumpy pulp before using her wooden spoon to push the mashed seeds from the mortar into her cauldron. Now... color change?

Looking around, Sierra suddenly realized she had fallen behind. Her first thought, though, wasn't that she needed to get started right away. It was that her mother would let her have it if the woman realized she'd lagged behind the others. Sierra wondered what she'd been doing to get so far behind, but in the end, she just blamed it on the little first year she'd been helping.

Reaching for her silver knife, she placed its sharp tip over the vein of the leaf. She sliced the leaf open, making sure to be precise. She dropped the leaves into the cauldron then reached for her pestle. She dipped it into the cauldron and shook it a bit. Afterwards, she tossed the seeds into the mortar and began to crush. *crush crush crush crush* When she had a substance that was about as pasty as it could get, she spooned it into the cauldron.

There now. All caught up.

Kurumi really did not like all the poison elements of this potion, so crushing the seeds was making her rather uneasy...

Doing so very carefully - and probably taking twice as long as she would have normally because she wasn't fully applying herself - the seeds eventually reached the proper consistency and Kurumi spooned it into her cauldron with a wooden spoon before returning to her notes.

Looking at Nessie, who was passed out on the ground, Kurumi glanced up when Professor Lafay asked for a prefect to come take a potion from her desk. She immediately made her way towards the front and took the vial with a small bow before hurrying back to her friend. Awkwardly, Kurumi pulled open one of her eyelids and allowed a drop to fall in Nessie's eye before she moved on to the other one.

So...this was going to help with the hallucinations...but what about the fainting?!

"Nessie...Nessie, can you hear me?" Kurumi asked as she rubbed the girl's eyelids very carefully with the tips of her fingers to spread the solution around a little.
"Thank you, Prefect Hollingberry." She said with a nod in the girl's direction.

But that didn't even bother him nearly as much as.... "It's Shacklebolt! Captain Shacklebolt! It's really not that hard to remember!" He didn't care that she was sick and falling apart and oozing or whatever the heck was going on with her. Milton knew she knew his name was Shacklebolt. Evil, EVIL woman.

Milton GLAAARED at her some more before stomping back over to the supplies to grab more leaves. He just let the other ones burn until there was nothing left. It was acting as a nice heater anyhow. Once he stomped back to his cauldron, Milton angrily, but carefully, sliced his leaves down the vein again. THERE.

And before Lafay could set them on fire, Milton dropped them into his cauldron, a GLARE still set on his face. He continued to GLARE as he listened to the next set of instructions and did as he was told. Grabbing his pestle, he dipped it into the cauldroon, shook off the excess water and began crushing the seeds in his mortar. He kept crushing it until it turned into a paste like Lafay said it would. That was when he grabbed his wooden spoon and dumped it into his cauldron.

But he didn't ask "now what" this time because who KNOWS what Lafay would set on fire. His FACE?!
Upon hearing the boy's tone, she turned around and watched him... He had gull... but that wasn't always a good thing. When he was finished, she walked to him and bent over his desk grabbing his tie, pulling it down, so his face was really close to hers. Her voice was low, but full of venom. "I will call you whatever I bloody well please." She hissed through her teeth... and yes, the rotting in her body = stinky!breath. "If I call you Princess Pretty Pants, you will say Yes Professor, and do as I instruct with a smile. One more outburst like this one, I will deduct so many points, your housemates will make you afraid of going into your own common room!" She let go of his tie and began walking back to her desk, adding "I hope I've made myself perfectly clear, Shackleburg."

The red head attempted to gently push away who's ever hands were touching her eyelids and then blinked. Kurumi was before her and talking to her. "Um..yeah..why wouldn't I be able to?" And what actually had happened? Pout. She was confused, the last thing she remembered was seeing dragons. "I'm fine, except where..where are the dragons?"

Slowly, Ness sat up and looked around only to see that Sarah and a few other students were eyeing her. Embarrassing, was this not. She then slowly got to her feet and eyed Elijah who was still at the working station beside her. This was his fault, wasn't it? Argh! She would soo get him after class, in fact she even started scheming now.

Looking at the now empty cauldron, Nessie sighed and began to remake her potion.
"No dragons... now get back to brewing, and don't rush it... I don't want to have to waste more ingredients." She said and then pointed to Elijah, "and you will keep your ingredients to yourself."

SPOILER!!: Nearly finished

There. It's set, the leaves at least. Well, next.

What is it with this potions and the word 'Devil' for their ingredients? Surely, this potions won't burst them out like devils. Taking her pestle, Kat dipped it in her cauldron and shook it a bit so that drops fell down from it. Once it wasn't that dripping wet, Kat placed the seeds inside her mortar and crushed them.

Crush. Crush. Crush. Crush.

Finally, the seeds looked like mush/paste/ whatever. Kat took the wooden spoon and took a scoop. Ok.

No change in color. Good cause there wasn't in hers. She had finished slicing the other leaves before the Professor had went on with the new instructions. Now they were to gently place them into the cauldron. Okay! She picked up the leaves and gently put them into the cauldron. Time for the Poison Hemlock seeds....Devil's porridge! After writing down the new set of directions into her notebook she dipped her pestle into her cauldron. Shaking a bit afterwards so it was wet but not dripping. She placed her seeds into the mortar and begin to crush them. Once they had reached the paste-like consistency the Professor had spoke about she picked up her wooden spoon and spooned it into the cauldron.

Of course, she was smart enough to know that the only way to survive was to just follow instructions without questioning them, even if she still felt like she was going to protest human testing once the potions were finished. Unless they got a demonstration to know that it wasn't going to kill them, because she couldn't see why something that had so many ingredients with either 'deadly' or 'devil's' in their names could be good. She gently slipped her leaves into her cauldron, though. Making sure not to let her fingers get any of the liquid on them. Unless she could stick them into the fire again, like she'd been supposed to do after the berry juice. She managed to stay dry, either way, so fire wasn't needed.

Then she reached over for her mortar and pestle, Scourgifying them before carefully dipping the pestle into her cauldron. For all she knew, contamination was a one-way-ticket to dying. Or having her potion vanished and getting yelled at. Shaking it so most of the dripping was gone, she held it over her cauldron as she reached over with her other hand to gather up the hemlock seeds and placed them in her mortar. Crush, crush-y, crush, she thought, as she finally started using the pestle to crush the seeds. At least it helped her ignore the uneasiness, and she stopped once the mortar held a mushy paste. Retrieving her wooden spoon, she set the pestle down long enough to use her wand to Scourgify the spoon before using it to spoon the paste into her potion. Please don't kill me, she thought, waiting quietly for the next instruction.

Dreamer's Elixir-something? (either lets a person remember or forget their dreams)

half a cup of Kava Kava (?)
1 berry of deadly nightshade
8 leaves of devil's weed
1 cup of Poison Hemlock seeds (devil’s porridge)
1 poppy flower
10 leaves of Calea Zacatechichi (?)

Steps:
1. clean cauldron (important)
2. fill cauldron to the neck with water (basically full)
3. light the fire underneath cauldron to boil the water
4. once the water boils, add the valerian and kava kava (mixes easier if in liquid form)
5.using a clean, 18 carat gold needle, pierce the nightshade berry, making sure to get a single drop of juice on the tip of the needle
6.set the berry on fire, using the magical burner under cauldron, burning it up entirely along with any remaining juice not on the needle
7. let the drop on the needle fall into the potion without touching anything other than the needle
8.burn any remaining juice from needle, clean it, and return to supplies
9.using silver knife, slice each leaf of devil’s weed carefully along the vein
10.place sliced leaves carefully into cauldron/potion
11.dip pestle into the liquid, shaking excess off so it’s just moist
12.place hemlock seeds into mortar, then crush with moist pestle until mushy (“paste-like consistency”)
13.spoon the hemlock seed paste into cauldron with a wooden spoon

Sarah then carefully placed her EIGHT leaves into the brew. Then she wetted her pestle (she had hastily scorufied it after realising other students were doing the same) and placing the seeds into the mortor she crushed them ferociousy until it was mushy.... well at least in her opinion. She was scared making potions was like making her mom's recipe for brownies. Her mom's brownie recipe would not work if over mixed or over baked. Then she took out the wooden spoon and after casting scourify on it she spooned out the paste into the brew. So far so good. It was also good by Nessie as Kurumi (was she not TOOO awesome) had helped her.

... Louisa took a look at her cauldron making sure the color didn't change. Nope, it didn't. Awesome. She grabbed the sliced leaves and gently tossed them in the cauldron, one by one.

Then came the next mission. Louisa grabbed her pestle, cleaned it with her wand and very gingerly dipped it into her cauldron's contents before taking it out a bit and shaking it to prevent any dripping and left it hovering over the liquid while she scourgified the mortar. Then she grabbed the cup of seeds, poured it inside and started crushing them with the dipped pestle. She made sure not to make it a sudden too strong bangs so that the seeds wouldn't fly out, that did happen few terms ago ahem ahem.

Crush crush crush crush... mush mush mush...

Louisa stopped crushing for a bit and shifted the pestle inside, feeling whether the consistency was creamy yet or not. Yes, it was. She put the pestle down, stretched her arm and flexed her hand for a bit and cleaned up the wooden spoon. And scoooooooooop, she scooped some creamy seeds and froze, waiting for the next instruction.

First the devil weed. Turning her attention back to Professor Lafay, Ira watched attentively as she carefully sliced the devil's weed. Feeling confident of herself, the fourth year took one of her devil's weed leaves and set it in front of her. Then, she grabbed his silver knife and carefully cleaned it. Now the vein. She just had to cut through the vein only. Yep, she could do this. if others could, she could too.

She placed placed the knife tip on the top of the leaf's vein. Carefully, she sliced down the vein very slowly making sure to not mess up and be precise with her slicing. And directly on the vein! Yes! It was as perfect as she hoped it could be!

And another Devil's ingredient! She had barely finished with the Devil's weed, as another ingredient was explained. Ira followed the instructions and dipped her pestle into the cauldron, into the mixture that was boiling, and had not yet changed colors, which was a good sign. Shaking of the runny drops, she put the seeds into the mortar.

Crush.. crush.. crush.. why couldn't they just use a spell to turn it all into a mushy paste? Crush.. crush..

There, a nice thick paste in her mortar. Then she picked up her wooden spoon and spooned it into the cauldron. Her work done for now, Ira waited for the next part.

After dumping the leaves in, he checked his potion. Sure enough, it was still the same color as it had always been. That's a good sign! he thought, heartened. What was DISheartening was the amount of poisonous materials they seemed to be working with. Was it always this way? Because that could get really bad really fast. Nevertheless, he dutifully copied this into his notebook. POISON HEMLOCK = DEVIL'S PORRIDGE.

Pao took the proper amount of seeds and placed them into his pestle. Then, taking his mortar, he stood on tiptoe and dipped it into the liquid. He carefully shook the excess off before beginning to grind away at the seeds. Man, this is a workout! Crush, crush, crush. Grind, grind, grind. Slowly but surely, the consistency became more and more like mush. When his arm was almost jello, he gave up and decided it was pasty enough. The first year began to dig out the seed-paste with his wooden spoon and, bit by bit, emptied it all into his cauldron.

POTIONS
Dreamer's Elixir

Ingredients:
  • 1 cup of valerian root
  • half a cup of Kava Kava
  • 1 deadly nightshade berry (Highly toxic)
  • 8 leaves of devil's weed
  • 1 cup of Poison Hemlock seeds
  • 1 poppy flower
  • 10 leaves of Calea Zacatechichi

Directions:

1.) Clean the cauldron (Scourgify)
2.) Fill the cauldron with water, neck deep (Aguamenti)
3.) Light fire underneath the cauldron (Incendio) until at a good boil
4.) Add the Valerian root and Kava Kava
5.) Get an 18 carat gold needle, clean it and pierce the Deadly nightshade berry, leaving a drop of it's juice on the gold needle part. Make sure the juice won't touch any part of your skin.
6.) Set the berry on fire using the magical burner.
7.) Place the gold needle with berry juice droplets over the cauldron and wait until the drop to fall into it.
8.) Once the juice drop fell into the cauldron, burn any excess juice from the gold needle, re-clean it, and return to the kit.
9.) Use a silver knife to slice the veins of each Devil's weed leaf precisely. May need to start over if missed.
10.) Put the sliced weeds into the cauldron gently.
11.) Dip the pestle in the cauldron, shake a bit, so it's just wet and not dripping.
12.) Put the Poison Hemlock seeds into the mortar, crush them into a mush.
13.) When it's a paste-like consistency, spoon it in with a wooden spoon.

After writing the steps, she put the Devil's weeds into the cauldron gently. Then, afterwards she took the pestle and dipped it into the cauldron, shook it a bit. Then she grabbed the cup of the Poison Hemlock seeds and put them into the mortar and crushed them until it was paste-like texture. Then she grabbed the wooden spoon and spooned the mushed paste of the Hemlock seeds. She then waited for the next instruction.

She took her leaves that were cut so lovely and very gently put them into the cauldron as well. Devil's porridge time...right. She took her pestel and dipped it in the cauldron. She grabbed the devil's seeds and put them in the mortar. Crush, crush, crush. When she finally got it in a paste like consistency she spooned it in with her handy dandy wooden spoon.

She did hope those eyedrops would help the student come back to her senses. Since she wasn't a prefect, she knew she should just let the older students help the girl. She wouldn't want to make it any worse somehow.

Doing as she was told, she lowered her leaves into the cauldron carefully. She dropped them from a close enough distance that they wouldn't ripple the potion too much, but not so close that her fingertips were in danger of contact. She then grabbed her pestle and dipped it into the liquid in her cauldron. She let it drip off some excess and shook it gently to remove the rest. With her free hand, she sprinkled the seeds into her mortar to begin the mushing process. Yes, mushing.

She crushed and ground the seeds until they broke down into a thick paste. This seems about right, she thought. She picked up her wooden spoon and scooped the paste into her cauldron, again careful to avoid any messy plopping.

Either Lafay had a tremendous amount of faith in the most beginner of students or she wasn't too concerned about thinning out the student population... or she was just mental. Whatever... it wasn't really his concern at the moment. He was just intent on brewing the potion correctly.

Aftre the berry demonstration, Ethan repeated the steps. He took the gold needle from his supply, cleaned it and picked up the berry. He carefully pricked it and slowly pulled the needle out, allowing the one drop of juice to fall into his cauldron. The 15 year old quickly tossed the berry onto the fire before any more of the juice could come out. He did not want any of that on his skin.

Next was the devil's weed. Eight of them to be exact. He first watched as Lafay demonstrated the proper way to prepare the leaf, then pulled out his silver knife. Blocking out all the noise around him, the fifth year bent over each leaf as he slowly sliced open the vein, making sure the knife did not pierce the other side. Each opened leaf was carefully placed into the potion.

Ethan then took the poison hemlock seeds and placed them into the mortar. He then dipped the pestle into his potion, gently shaking off the excess liquid and began crushing the seeds. Once they seemed the proper consistency, he spooned them into the caldron. He was a little surprised they hadn't stirred it yet... but he was following the directions precisely as Lafay was instructing them. This one was too dangerous to mess up.

SPOILER!!: Potions Journal

Dreamer's Elixer

Ingredients
  • 1 cup of valerian root (liquid)
  • half a cup of Kava Kava (liquid)
  • 1 deadly nightshade berry
  • 8 leaves of devil's weed
  • 1 cup of Poison Hemlock seeds
  • 1 poppy flower
  • 10 leaves of Calea Zacatechichi

Method
1.Water base, bring to boil
2.Add valerian root and Kava Kava
3. Pierce deadly nightshade berry with clean gold needle, allowing drop of juice on the needle (must only have touched the gold) to fall into cauldron. Burn the berry and juice making sure juice is not on skin.
4. Open devil's weed leaves at the vein with silver knife and place inside cauldron
5. Dip pestle into potion, shaking off excess liquid and crush poison hemlock seeds. Spoon into potion when it's a paste-like consistency

After he dipped it, then Gary put the seeds to the mortar and crushed it until it looked like a paste. He made sure that his wooden spoon was clean enough and use it to spoon the seed's paste.

*blink*

Did the Hufflepuff captain just fainted at the class? Wow, the berry must be so much poisonous so that could make her feeling so much hallucinate and passed out. See? Never make some trouble at Potions class, especially if the teacher is Lafay. He spoke to himself

Knowing that the utmost care was needed when working with such a dangerous ingredient, Silvia had paid close attention to the professor's demonstration. Nevertheless, she was a bit nervous, afraid of doing something wrong. Carefully, she punctured the berry with the needle, and quickly placed the berry into the fire. Soon the berry was no more as Silvia held the needle above her cauldron and waited. DRIP. With that part finished, she held the needle to the fire to get rid of any other juice. Then with another Scourgify she cleaned off the needle once again. And for good measure, she gave her work area a quick cleaning as well.

Taking her silver knife, the third year gave it a Scourgify before picking up the first leaf. Looking at it closely, she made sure she could see the vein clearly. This was another high precision required step. Slowly, she touched the tip of the knife to the vein in the leaf and sliced it open. She continued to do the same with the next leaf until all of them were neatly sliced. The knife received another cleaning.

Gently Silvia added the leaves into the cauldron. The next step was to add the seeds. This potion seemed to require a lot of dangerous ingredients. After making sure her pestle and mortar were clean, Silvia put the seeds into the mortar and dipped the end of the pestle into the cauldron. Lifting it back out, she held it above the potion and shook off the excess liquid. Then the pestle found its way to the mortar and she crushed the seeds. Silvia continued to grind them up until they became a paste. Using her wooden spoon (after cleaning it of course), she spooned the seed paste into the potion.

Turning her attention back to the Professor, Ella listened as she gave them the next set of instructions, scribbling down notes as she went along. No color change yet? Ella raised an eyebrow and checked her own brewing potion, nodding with approval. Yup, hers was still looking the same so that was good. She added the leaves gently as instructed and then looked up from her work, eyeing the next ingredient with curiosity.

Seeds, huh? Alright. Ella could deal with seeds. She reached for her mortar, pestle, and wooden spoon, setting them down in front of her. She then cleaned them to ensure that there would be no contamination during use. Next she picked up the pestle and dipped it into her cauldron, shaking it until there were no more drops coming off from it. Right, time to do some crushing.

Placing the seeds in the mortar, Ella used the pestle to crush them down. She worked hard, putting effort into creating the paste-like substance that was meant to go into the cauldron. When it looked to be the right consistency, the third year picked up the wooden spoon and added it to her potion.

There. Not so bad. And now that she'd finished that step, she cleaned off her tools and placed them neatly back on the table.

Wow.

That is a loooooooooooooooot of sedatives in that potion. Seriously, that was a lot. What are they gonna use them for? Making an elephant and a giraffe sleep for a week?

The blonde took out her goggles and wore them when Lafay had told them to wear them because the potion's fumes cause people to fall asleep. Now, who would want to sleep in the middle of Potions Class? Wake up in the hospital wing with lost house points. Yeah, not a good idea.

Kat got the red poppies she collected earlier and dropped them on top of the potion's surface. Well... now she had nothing to do but wait until it has sunken to the bottom of her cauldron.

Tick tock. Tick tock.

Eliza was really starting to wonder if she'd ever trust herself to take her own potions. Maybe not just yet, she thought. She seemed to be doing all right so far, but there were a lot of scary ingredients in this thing and it didn't seem to be getting any peachier.

She reached to put on her goggles and whilst doing so almost draped her robe sleeve into her cauldron. Woops! That wouldn'tve been good... She looked around to see if anyone, namely the professor, had seen her near miss. She rubbed the goggles on her robe since they seemed a little foggy, then she remembered Oh, duh. We can use magic without asking. You're a witch remember? She really was in a whole other place sometimes. "Scourgify." There, that was better. She slid them on, making sure the headband was snug. She wasn't quite sure how goggles would prevent the fumes from going to her head, but Eliza did as she was instructed and dropped her single red poppy flower into the potion. It withered, curled, and slowly sunk deeper down into the cauldron. She was a little sad to watch the pretty flower go, but that was potions for you. It served a purpose so she supposed it wasn't such a bad thing.

As Professor Lafay was calling out what the previous ingredients they added to the cauldron does, Jory scribbled them down quickly.

He now got out his goggles. He made sure it was on properly. There was no need to fall asleep in class.

The boy took the poppies and dropped it on top of the potion and watched as it began to wilt then slowly sink to the bottom of the cauldron.

Somehow, the explanation for the ingredients that they'd already put into the cauldron really didn't make Kendall feel any better about brewing it. Probably because she still couldn't see how it would actually have any influence on if a person remembered their dreams or not, since she didn't think that thing about tossing and turning was true. It just seemed like they were brewing something that, if it didn't kill them, it was going to practically put them into a coma. She wasn't about to question it, though, not after witnessing what had happened when her house's captain had protested her mispronouncing his name. She didn't want that happening to her, because that would no doubt make her hair change and then need explanations she didn't want to give. She'd just continue hoping they didn't have to test it later. She had a feeling stopping halfway wouldn't be any better than finishing, anyway.

She practically had her goggles out as soon as they'd been mentioned, however, slipping them over her eyes even as she contin ued listening to the instructions. Shouldn't we be putting gas masks or something on to avoid fumes, not just goggles?, she wondered. Another question she wasn't going to ask, although the part about red poppies was interesting. It was faerie story-like, really, which she liked. Even if she didn't want to go to sleep in class. Therefore, as soon as they were released to follow the instructions, she picked her poppy up and reached over to drop it into her cauldron. Keeping her head clear of any fumes that might be released, and going back to her notes to occupy her time while she waited for the next step.

SPOILER!!: Potions journal
Dreamer's Elixir-something? (either lets a person remember or forget their dreams)

Ingredients:
Water
1 cup valerian root
half a cup of Kava Kava (?)

14.put goggles on so fumes don’t make you sleepy
15.place RED poppy flower on top of the liquid in cauldron, letting the heat from the potion wilt it and sink it to the bottom of the cauldron

Thankfully the next ingrediant, devil's weed, was not quite as painstaking, though still required precision. This potion certainly reminded Gideon of the ones his father seemed to always be working on, or rather one his father would have no trouble with seeing as he always was so precise in his work. "Scourgify." The silver knife got the same treatment as everything else. Then taking out the leaf from his own collection of ingrediants, he slowly but surely cut along the vein. The prefect marking and cutting it perfectly on the vein. Gideon repeated the process on all the leaves before adding them gently.

Next was the poison hemlock seeds. "Scourgify..." he cast on both the mortar and the pestle before ever so lightly dipping the pestle into his potion to wet it. Then shake gently and added the seeds to the mortar and crush. The seventh year following the steps in quick succession, almost as smoothly as Lafay managed. However he was still following along with her so slower. He stopped after a few moments crushing to inspect the constistency and when he wasn't quite satisfied, worked it a little more until he was. Then exchanging pestle for wooden spoon in his hand, he began adding it into the potion as directed.

Gideon obediantly put on his goggles, not about to risk the effects of the fumes. He knew better than that. The Gryffindor, then dropped in his own poppy, letting the potion do its work on the potent flower.

Elise pulled the small container full of Devil's Weed and scourgified her working station. Pulling out her silver knife ans scourgifying that too, Elise pressed the tip of the knife to the top of the vein. Moving her hand veeery slowly, she sliced the weeds carefully through the vein cleanly.

So cleanly that she didn't have to redo any. So yay!

Checking her cauldron to make sure that the potion was still clear, Elise heaved a sigh of relief. So far, so good. Scourgifying her mortar and pestle, quickly, Elise picked her pestle up. Gingerly dipping it into the liquid and shaking it so that the excess came off.

Then, she poured the cup full of the seeds inside the mortar and took her still wet pestle and began to crush. Crushing took a while, since Elise was way more worried about the amount of poison in the potion, but eventually it did reach a paste-like consistency.

"Scourgify,"
she muttered, wand pointed at her wooden spoon. Scooping all the paste, she gently shook it into the cauldron. And made sure that it didn't splash anywhere. Good.

Helping Nessie sit up, Kurumi bit her lip and leaned in a bit. "There aren't any dragons," unfortunately, "I think you were just experiencing the effects of the deadly nightshade berry juice...it can cause hallucinations." But Nessie was alright now, right? No weird visions or anything, yes?

Glancing over her shoulder when Professor Lafay addressed Nessie - and insulted Milton again with some rather amusing nicknames - Kurumi helped the Hufflepuff back up on her feet and back to her seat before returning to her own so she could continue brewing her potion. Elijah better not flings more of this potion at Nessie...or anyone for that matter.

Listening to Professor Lafay, Kurumi checked on her cauldron to make sure that things were looking how they should - as least she assumed that it was looking how things should be before slipping her goggles on. She did have to wonder if the fumes being inhaled would cause any...issues...seeing as fumes typically had an impact when breathed in - just like the poppies in The Wizard of Oz. Just to be safe, Kurumi used her free hand to cover her mouth and nose while she reached for her poppy with the other. Kurumi dropped it into her cauldron and watched as it shriveled up in the boiling liquid and eventually vanished beneath the surface.

Done with the next step, Kurumi looked up and caught Logan looking at her, so she offered him an encouraging smile as she returned to her parchment and added to her notes.

She pulled out the poppy flower, showing it to the students. "Goggles please." She said not putting them on herself. "I'm use to this... you aren't. Put on your goggles as when this is heated the fumes will make you sleepy."

She tried to answer the unanswered question. "Red poppies are the most potent. So we use red. Just drop it on the top, let the potion wilt it on it's own and it will sink to the bottom of the cauldron."
Befelda's getting excited as she knew they are getting near to finishing the Elixir Potion. After taking heed of the Professor's instruction, she grabbed her quill and parchment and wrote down the next steps:

SPOILER!!: Befelda's notes

14.) Get some red poppies, use goggles for protection from fumes (it will make you sleepy).
15.) Drop the poppies on top of the cauldron, let the potion wilt it on it's own and it will sink to the bottom of the cauldron.

After writing down the steps, she then put on her goggles, wore it properly then took the red poppies, placed on top of the cauldron and dropped them.

Befelda then waited to wilt on the potion.

Cassia searched for the seeds the Professor showed them. Seeds.....hmmmm...where were they. She squinted her eyes at all the ingredients. Not here. She skipped to the storage and grabbed some seeds. Returning to her desk she reached for the pestle and dipped it into the cauldron. Then putting the seeds into the mortar she started crushing.

And what's with the names!! Poison and Devil...

After crushing for quite a while. Cassia thought that they did turn into a mush. Taking the spoon she started spooning them.

What's next..

Interesting. Something about sedating. Were they going to use the potion? On themselves or other people. Cassia was so eager to find out about that.

And things required goggles now. Mhhmm. The second-year reached for the goggles and put them on. She dropped the red poppy and watched it sink into the cauldron. Her goggles on. Interesting

Scribble. Scribble. Scribble.

Ella added the new information to her notes, knowing it might come in handy at another time. It was always good to hear why you were adding what you were adding to a potion, made it a lot easier to digest how the potion worked the way it did. When she was finished writing she set her quill and parchment aside, looking up at Professor Lafay again.

Red poppies. Right. Ella reached for the pair of goggles, pointing her wand at them to ensure that they were clean. She certainly didn't want dirty googles anywhere near her eyes. "Scourgify." When she was done she placed them securely on her head, adjusting them so they fit snugly.

With a deep breath, the third year picked up the poppy flower and dropped it into her cauldron, watching as it hit the potion. She watched with great interest as it slowly began to wilt, emitting fumes that seemed to surround her head. Even with the goggles, she did feel slightly drowsy. The badger couldn't imagine doing it without them. She'd have fallen asleep right there on the table. Meep. Looking down again, she noted that the flower had sunk all the way to the bottom of the potion. Right. All set. Blink.Blink.Blink. The fumes would die down soon, right? ...

Minerva was busy watching to make sure Nessie was alright. She didn't want anything to happen to her fellow puff mate. When she knew she would be okay Minerva turned back to realize she had fallen behind. OH..no that's not good. She looked at the steps and took the weed putting it into the cauldron gently as the professor had said. Then she picked up the pestle dipping it in the cauldron then shaking it a bit. Taking hold of her mortar she made sure it was clean first then placed the seeds in. **Crush...Crush..crush..crush..crush..** Once the seeds were all nicely crushed into mush Minerva took out her wooden spoon and again made sure it was clean. Spooning the mush with the wooden spoon just as the professor had done.

Minerva then pulled out her goggles and made sure they were clean and ready to go. Placing them on her head she wondered how sleepy the potion would make them. She didn't want to take a chance falling asleep in this class.. no way.. maybe she would try not to breath in the potion either. Minerva then took the poppy and dropped it carefully in. Watching it wilt she felt the fumes coming around her. Holding her breath not to breath them in she turned her head to take a breath before looking back at the cauldron. Once the poppy was at the bottom she stepped back a bit and waited for the next direction.

Cardigan kinda rushed through this next part. She had fallen behind!!! What was she gonna do?? Well, there was no choice just to continue on. She dipped her pestle in the cauldron and took it out, shaking it off a bit, so it wouldn't be too wet or anything, like the professor said. She put the Hemlock seeds in the mortar, and proceeded to turn them into mush.

Crush, crush, crush.

Great! Now that she was done with that, she spooned the mush into the cauldron. All caught up!! Cardigan put her goggles on, which would supposedly protect them from the sleepy fumes. It wouldn't be too fun to land face first in a cauldron right about now... She picked up the red poppy and dropped it in, watching it wilt and float to the bottom.

Was it supposed to take this long??

Nigel put on his goggle not even risking what would happen if he didn't. He picked a red poppy and got ready to drop it into his cauldron. He listened to Lafay describe what Devil's Weed is. Nigel would have taken notes if not for the cauldron and poppy seed in his hand.

Nigel dropped the red poppy on the top and let the potion do what Lafay said. He was happy it sank to the bottom because that meant his potion was correct. Now what is next?

Belle heard the professor's directions and was prepared to listen. She got out her red poppy out first. Then she put on her goggles and did not want get sleepy and be sent to the hospital wing.

Then she dropped it on the top, she saw it floating there at first, then after a few minutes she saw it sink to the bottom of the cauldron. Belle let out a sigh of relief. She was glad everything was going right.

Belle took some notes of Devils Weed. She did not want to miss that. Then she added the poppy seed step to her potions notebook.

After writing down some notes on the Deadly nightshade, devil's weed and hemlock on the side of her notebook. It was nice all the extra information Lafay provided.
Then she added more to her notes:
SPOILER!!: notes
Quote:
Potion to make you forget your dream (or add one ingredient to remember them)
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup of valerian root (preferably liquid form as it allows it to mix with Kava better)
  • half a cup of Kava Kava (preferably liquid form, same reason as valerian root)
  • 1 deadly nightshade berry
  • 8 leaves of devil's weed
  • 1 cup of Poison Hemlock seeds
  • 1 poppy flower
  • 10 leaves of Calea Zacatechichi
Method:
  1. Clean couldron. (scourify)
  2. fill with water up to neck of couldron (argumenti)
  3. light fire beneath couldron (incendio)
  4. Once the water begins to boil, add valerian root
  5. add Kava Kava
  6. use a clean 18 carat needle and prick the nightshade berry to get a single drop of juice on the needle's tip.
  7. Use the magical burner under the cauldron to set theberry on fire... burn it completely. Make sure all remaining juice that is not on the needle is burnt as well.
  8. allow the drop of berry juice on the needle to drop into potion
  9. burn all leftover juice on the needle, clean it and return to supplies
  10. Using a silver knife slice open the vein of the devil's weed. Repeat procedure on all eight leaves. If you mess up, you will need to start over
  11. place sliced leaves carefully into the brew
  12. dip pestle into the liquid, shaking excess off so it’s just moist
  13. place hemlock seeds into mortar, then crush with moist pestle until mushy (“paste-like consistency”)
  14. spoon the hemlock seed paste into cauldron with a wooden spoon
  15. put on goggles to keep fumes out of eyes that wi make you sleepy
  16. drop one RED poppy into brew, allow it to wilt and sink on its own

Sarah was glad Nessie was okay, meanwhile she afixed the goggles to her eyes. She had homework to do so sleep will not be so conducive. Then she selected a red poppy and just hep it over the brew and then just let it drop. She saw it wilt and then sink to the bottom like the Titanic.

It appeared that Lafay knew something about ingredients after all, and Vivi sullenly jotted down every word the woman shared. She loved learning about new ingredients - it was like adding new pieces to a giant puzzle. Now that she could add these to what she knew, who knew what new potion ideas she could come up with?

Goggles, hmm? The professor wasn't putting them on, and Vivi mentally rebelled against the idea of having to wear something useless and stupid-looking. SIGH FINE. Vivi slid on the goggles and blinked at those around her... also in goggles.

The red poppy. Vivi held it up to her goggles to peer at the flower before dropping it in the cauldron. The edges curled slightly as it wilted in the heat, and the entire flower slipped beneath the surface of the liquid.

Princess Pretty Pants? No, he was NOT okay with that. He wasn't okay with ANY of this! He was sick and tired of letting Lafay walk all over him like he was a piece of trash. Last term, Milton was a bit scared of Lafay because of her threats and menacing looks and her evil reputation, but Miton didn't care anymore. Slipping on her goggles, Emmanuelle was reminded of a muggle chemistry class. Which she knew Potions was nothing like (as they spent their class time making s'mores and stuff), but still...

Making sure her nose was out of the range of the potions fumes, she carefully added the poppy. She watched as it slowly wilted and sunk out of sight. Okay, next?

Really? Gryffidor blood in the boy?

"Very well, Shacklebolt. Twenty points from Hufflepuff." She said. Yeah, she got it right when she was going to take points away from him. "And you are meeting me in my office after class."

Kat got the red poppies she collected earlier and dropped them on top of the potion's surface. Well... now she had nothing to do but wait until it has sunken to the bottom of her cauldron.

Tick tock. Tick tock.

Dreamer's Elixir-something? (either lets a person remember or forget their dreams)

Ingredients:
Water
1 cup valerian root
half a cup of Kava Kava (?)

14.put goggles on so fumes don’t make you sleepy
15.place RED poppy flower on top of the liquid in cauldron, letting the heat from the potion wilt it and sink it to the bottom of the cauldron

Good.

Interesting

The fumes would die down soon, right? ...

Your dreams will be harder to remember if you are tossing and turning."

Then she dropped it on the top, she saw it floating there at first, then after a few minutes she saw it sink to the bottom of the cauldron. Belle let out a sigh of relief. She was glad everything was going right.

Belle took some notes of Devils Weed. She did not want to miss that. Then she added the poppy seed step to her potions notebook.

Back to her class now.

"At this point you can perform the spell and the potion should be read to take. The potion taken at this point, would allow you not to dream. So for people suffering from nightmares, or night terrors, this is the potion to drink. But that's not where we are stopping. You will now add whole, the Calea Zacatechichi leaves and you will notice they will disintegrate into the potion." She demonstrated and then eyed the class. "If the potion does not turn purple, it is wrong and you will need to throw it out. If the potion is indeed now purple, then the last step is your incantation. You will move the wand in a semicircle motion, think about a dream you've recently had and say Sopororis..." She instructed. "Then strain it and we have a potion that will allow you not only to dream, but to remember them vividly."

A Poop * k8 *

Okay...

The next step was quite easy, actually. Just drop a little red poppy into the potion! That wasn't bad! Elliot could handle this...potions was totally not hard...pffffft.

But first, she needed to put on goggles...O__O What? Elliot didn't think she'd look...nice in them. Or rather, THEY wouldn't nice on her. But then again...she was so..pretty..wouldn't anything look nice on her? *Shrugs* Logic makes sense, yeah? Totally. So she put her goggles on her face...which smelled weird. Ugh. She didn't like these things. At all.

She picked up the poppy, and then she caaaaarefully put it in...

And the potion looked..fine? She guessed? Hmph. She glanced up at Lafay..

The leaves. She needed to put the leaves in...okay? She dropped them all in, praaaaaying that it turned purple. She didn't want to start over, much less be victim to lafay's wrath...Elliot didn't want to lose her cool. Since this class seemed to be...calming. Thus far.

She took out her wand and moved it around in semi-circles...okay? She had to think of a dream? She shut her eyes, thought...of...that weird one she had told to ariana in Divination..about killing giant tea leaves...meh...and her eyes popped open! READY NOW! She muttered, "Soporis." Hopefully that worked.

She the strained her potion..and hoped..that it was right...like really hoped...and what if they didn't WANT to remember their dreams, hmmm? HMM? Elliot didn't really mind NOT remembering them...they were weird!

"Very well, Shacklebolt. Twenty points from Hufflepuff." She said. Yeah, she got it right when she was going to take points away from him. "And you are meeting me in my office after class."
Hufflepuff? "Er, Professor, Milton isn't in Hufflepuff,'' Jory said.

He turned back to the potion and listened carefully to the instructions. He grabbed the leaves with the weird name and added them whole into the cauldron where he watched them break up. The Puff was delighted to see his potion urn purple. It was a relief, really.

Onto the incantation. Jory got out his wand while he repeated the incantation. When he was sure he was ready, he raised the wand ad traced it in a semi circular motion while concentrating on his last dream. "Sopororis!'' That done, he proceeded to strain the potion.
