The Magical Creatures Sanctuary is an outdoor enclosure that looks like a park, full of green grass and random trees. It actually contains a variety of creatures scattered about, ones that don't mind being outdoors during the fall and spring. In the winter, most of these creatures will be brought into the Barnyard where students can continue looking after them.

If you're feeling useful, pick up a shovel from the shed at the back and scoop up animal poo! If you're feeling lonely, go visit with a puffskein or a kneazle or an abraxan, aethonan, or granian. If you're feeling sad, go sit by the brambles and whine to the augurey. Who knows, your skills around these animals might just result in your earning a few house points.

All animals within this enclosure are rated X, XX, or XXX. Please remember your character's skill level, year, and familiarity around animals when visiting the Sanctuary.

Alyssa made her way into the Sanctuary happy to be back with her furry, feathery and not so furry and feathery friends. She sighed in dismay when she noticed that while she was away, the poop piles had literally piled up. Glad that she had worn her old worn clothes and brought along her gloves, she made her way to the tool shed and pulled out the wheelbarrow and her shovel...the two tools that she was getting really familiar with working here at the Sanctuary and made her way to the first pile of steaming hot poop.

She shovelled it up and dropped it into the wheelbarrow before making her way to the next pile. As she worked she started singing "Whistle while you work" an old song from a muggle movie called Snow White. In that movie, the cute dwarves were digging for diamonds. In her case, it was poop, but poop still was useful for something, so it could still be considered precious cargo. Alyssa laughed at the thought of that.

So she scooped and dropped her 'treasures' into the wheelbarrow until it got full, then she lifted up the handles and wheeled the wheel barrow to the "King of all piles of poop" that was located at the other end of sanctuary and emptied her wheelbarrow there.

Alyssa then made her way back to where she left her shovel, picked it up and proceeded to clean up the next section of the Sanctuary. After she had made a couple of trips back to empty her wheelbarrow, she noticed that the sun was lying low over the horizon and checked her watch. Yep! it was time for dinner. So Alyssa picked up the shovel and placed it in the wheelbarrow before wheeling it back to the tool shed. Removing one of her gloves, she unholstered her wand and pointing it at both the shovel and wheelbarrow, cleaned them by using the 'Scourgify' spell. Alyssa then pushed the wheelbarrow back into the shed and placed the shovel back in it's place before she exiting the tool shed and closing the door.

She slowly made her way back to the entrance of the shed, smiling when she saw the Winged Horses standing at one corner of the Sanctuary. She decided that the next time she came here, that she would spend some time with them, like she did last term. Turning back, Alyssa exited the Sanctuary and made her way back to the castle to clean up before dinner.

Glenn wandered down to the Sanctuary for the first time. She'd helped her mother and brother take care of some of the animals in the forest she lived by. She'd be fine. Maybe even great at it.

The poo... she'd get to that later. She avoided the big pile of it and head over to a knarl that was close to her. She had some bread. She'd feed it to it. They where like hedgehogs, right? There was one difference though... she couldn't quite remember what it was.

Glenn carefully ripped a chunk off and tossed it to the knarl - Who then decided to start tearing up the sanctuary.

"No! Stop it!" Stupid, stupid. That was the difference. Don't offer them food. She watched helplessly.

Alyssa had remembered that Knarl's were very suspicious creatures and when offered food, they would think that the person was trying to trap them. This Knarl definitely thought for sure that was what Glenn was trying to do. Alyssa quickly ran up to her, "Glenn how do we stop the Knarl from tearing up the sanctuary? I mean we could stun it but I really don't want to do it unless we absolutely have to. Do you think that I should go get Professor Williamson?"

"I don't know!" Glenn said hopelessly, waving her hands in frustration. She didn't really want to get in trouble. "Surely there's some way to stop it without getting a teacher?" She suggested. Like, casting some kinda spell or something? "Were you any good at those enchantment thingys from the seminar last term?" Now that she though of it, had Alyssa even been there? She didn't know. But maybe those enchantments would control it if she had been any good at them.

While wandering the grounds, Penelope decided to make her way down to the animal sanctuary. She wasn't sure what sorts of creatures to expect to see, but she did hope to find one of those half bird, half horse creatures like the one Atticus had. She couldn't remember the name - though she was pretty sure there was a "gryff" in there like "Gryffindor" - but she doubted the name really mattered. It would still be there whether she knew what it was called or not.

When she reached the sanctuary though, she didn't notice any there when she looked around. There were lots of other animals...but they weren't the ones she wanted to see.

Meh.

"How are about we try to distract it by feeding it more food. Maybe if he's busy eating he will get distracted from destroying the place. Want to give that a try?" Alyssa asked Glenn.

Minerva walked into the sanctuary and looked around. She wasn't sure what she wanted to do today, but she always liked going in to work with the animals. She moved to the shed to look at the to do list. "Well I guess I can see if I could get the niffler out of the burrow." Minerva headed to the burrow and looked around "Oh Hey Alyssa, Hey Glenn, you guys okay?" she wasn't sure if they needed any help or not, but I guess they would ask if they did. So she continued to head towards the burrows. Looking around she did not see any nifflers, what if they were not in there she wondered. Minerva walked back over to the shed and found some bugs. Nifflers were known to eat bugs so maybe she could get the niffler out by feeding it.

Walking back to the burrow and kneeled down and looked inside. She still didn't see anything and was about to figure it wasn't in there when she heard a scratching sound. "Oh so you are in there." she smiled and laid some bugs at the opening of the burrow hoping she could slowly get it to come out.

Minerva waited awhile to see if the niffler would come out of the burrow with the bugs she had put at the opening. She looked over at Glenn and Alyssa to see how they were doing when she heard something and turned back to the burrow. She saw a little bit of the niffler sticking out after the bugs, but when she moved to get a closer look he or she went back into hiding. Minerva sighed and thought about trying again. She looked around for more bugs.

She walked a little further away to head back to the shed not realizing that she had dropped her mothers ring when she had tried to move closer to the burrow. She went back to the shed to get more bugs. Once she got the bugs she headed back to the burrow, but before she got there she saw the niffler outside the burrow. She got excited being able to see it. What made it come out she wondered, but she didn't have to wonder long. She saw something sparkle in the sun. Oh that's right she thought Niffler's liked things that sparkle. She walked closer trying to not freak the Niffler out, but trying to figure out what was sitting on the ground that she hadn't seen before.

Pyrsephonie walked into the Sanctuary and smiled brightly when she saw all of the creatures. Whether it's a Poodle or a Niffler, she loved creatures of all kinds. Probably because she grew up in a town surrounded by forest.

The first creature she noticed was a fluffy, spotted, cat-like creature. A Kneazle. The Kneazle stood where it was a Pyrsephonie walked up to it slowly. She bent down and held out her hand to the animal. The Kneazle looked at her, as if judging her. It appearently decided that she was okay, and went over to her and rubbed it's head against her hand. Pyrsephonie pet the Kneazle. "Hey there, Kneazle," she said to it. It made an affectionate noise and led Pyrsephonie's hand to it's large ears. Pyrsephonie took the hint and scrached behind it's ears. She patted it's head one last time and got up to leave. The Kneazle began to follow her.

Pyresphonie was walking along, the Kneazle in tow. Suddenly, she heard the Kneazle hissing and snarling. she looked down at the Kneazle. "What's wrong?" She asked it. It ignored her and kept making the noises. Pyrsephonie looked where the Kneazle was pointed at and saw what it was reacting to.

Pyrsephonie didn't know what the creature was, but it left her in a state of amazement. It looked something you'd see at death. It was shaped like a horse. It had a skeletal black body and a head like a dragon. It's eyes shone white, and it had wings like some demonic, evil creature. But it didn't seem evil. To Pyrsephonie, it seemed like a beautifully tragic creature. Like something that caused nightmares without meaning to. Something that once meant death.

The creature was just standing there, minding it's own business. Well, it was minding it's own business until it noticed Pyrsephonie and Kneazle. It looked Pyrsephonie right in the eyes with own shining ones. Pyrsephonie couldn't look away. She just found this creature so amazing. She'd never seen anything like it. She wanted to go up to it, but she didn't. She knew that it was a horrible idea to walk up to a creature that she didn't know what it was. It was like the creature felt her caution. It moved her head as if in a nod, broke it's gaze, and walked off.

She hoped that by doing that the Knarl would just follow the trail all the way to it's home and then go back inside with the knowledge that both Glenn and her didn't mean it any harm nor had any intentions of catching it.

"Let's not make any sudden movements, Glenn." Alyssa suggested. "Why don't we slowly back off and hide behind a tree. We should stay upwind from the Knarl so that it can't smell us."

"Maybe if the Knarl thinks that we're gone, it will believe that we're not here to harm him and it'll just eat the food and go back home. " Alyssa whispered to Glenn.

Minerva slowly walked to towards the Niffler as he/she worked with the sparkly thing. She couldn't believe she was that close to one. It's black fur was neat and clean and it's longer brown nose was moving around the sparkling object. Where did the object come from she wondered, but she was glad it was there, because she might not been able to see a Niffler if it hadn't been laying there.

Minerva was just about to be right next to the Niffler when she realized what the object was. She quickly fumbled into her robe pockets, it....was...gone. She looked at her hands, nope not there either, which meant that what the Niffler was chewing on was her mother's ring. Without thinking she screamed "NO.. give that back, It was my mom's." as soon as she yelled the Niffler looked at her grabbed the ring in it's mouth and flew back into the burrow. "Come back out, please come back." she tried to plead with the creature. She had to get that ring back. Should she put her hand into the burrow, but she might get bit. What should she do, she looked around maybe to see the professor wondering around or someone that might be able to help her...

Glenn watched the Knarl's movements and started to back away slowly. Glenn found a tree and hid behind it. She peeked out behind the tree and saw that the Knarl was slowing it's movements. Sigh. Good. Hopefully Professor W. Wouldn't get too angry with them. Well - the Knarl had only destroyed the trees and flowers and all that stuff. It'd grow back, right?

"I think it's nearly finished destroying stuff." Glenn whispered over to Alyssa.

Maybe it was the crisp October weather that had finally lured Kurumi out of the dorms and to actually do something more with her hair than throw it up into a pony tail - like brush it - but Kurumi now found herself in the animal sanctuary looking to go back to her childhood where animals were her only friends. Thankfully, those days were behind her now, but Kurumi still felt a strong connection with animals.

Shutting the gate behind her, Kurumi thought about going straight for the chizpurfles remover, but got a little distracted when she saw Penelope looking around a little...disappointed?

"Hey Penelope," Kurumi waved, holding the chizpurfles remover in her other hand. "What brings you down here?"

Louisa had pure, simple intentions of getting into the sanctuary, pet some creatures, throw some food at others and call it a productive day bonding with other species without anyone giving her those looks that she was too arrogant or too harsh or whatever. PFFFT. People had soft hearts for other creatures while they fight their own species. How hypocritical.

Minerva looked around and went back to looking into the dark burrow. Where was that ~~thief~~ little niffler with her mother's ring. She had to find that ring it was all she had. She was about to give in and go to Professor Williamson for help when she heard someone talk to her, she turned to see a prefect, ~~Oh joy~~ she never had good luck with prefects from other houses, they always seemed to think they were better then the other students. "Well I was feeding the niffler and trying to get him out of his burrow, when I ran out of food. I must have dropped my mother's ring, because when I came back the niffler was out of the burrow biting at it." She figured the prefect would know that niffler's loved shiny things, so didn't want to inform her on this factual item to why a niffler would be out of it's burrow for a ring. "When I realized it was my mom's ring I tried to get it, but the niffler ran back in the burrow with it and now I can't get it out."

She looked back into the burrow, but she couldn't see anything. All she could hear was some scratching noises. She looked back at the prefect with panic in her face "Any idea's how I can get the ring back, I have to get it back."

Minerva looked around and went back to looking into the dark burrow. Where was that ~~thief~~ little niffler with her mother's ring. She had to find that ring it was all she had. She was about to give in and go to Professor Williamson for help when she heard someone talk to her, she turned to see a prefect, ~~Oh joy~~ she never had good luck with prefects from other houses, they always seemed to think they were better then the other students. "Well I was feeding the niffler and trying to get him out of his burrow, when I ran out of food. I must have dropped my mother's ring, because when I came back the niffler was out of the burrow biting at it." She figured the prefect would know that niffler's loved shiny things, so didn't want to inform her on this factual item to why a niffler would be out of it's burrow for a ring. "When I realized it was my mom's ring I tried to get it, but the niffler ran back in the burrow with it and now I can't get it out."

She looked back into the burrow, but she couldn't see anything. All she could hear was some scratching noises. She looked back at the prefect with panic in her face "Any idea's how I can get the ring back, I have to get it back."

Louisa listened to the girl, her eyebrows furrowing gradually as the story started to make sense in the girl's head. "Okay, first off, why did you bring your mom's jewelry to Hogwarts?" HMM? "Second, why did you get near the Niffler with a sparkling ring?" Louisa was counting on her fingers, "Lastly, don't panic. We'll get it back.. I am a Prefect. I should know what to do." Right? Not so much because Louisa had NO idea how to get a Niffler to let go of a ring! She doubted that even Professor Williamson would be able to do that... but let's not scare the kid with this tiny piece of information.

Louisa knelt on the ground, facing the burrow. "I'm Louisa and I'll try to get the ring back for you." Even if she didn't approve of kids wearing their mom's rings. "Let's try and lower our voices, move to the side of the opening so that it doesn't see us," Louisa maneuvered herself to be squatting next to the burrow instead of in front of it. "Okay.. now.. we can uhh... maybe get it something to eat and place it outside the opening." She looked at the girl's hands. She said she was feeding it... so did she get some food or not?

SPOILER!!: Helpful Prefect

Minerva listened to the Prefect and looked to the ground like a scolded puppy when she started asking her questions. Without making eye contact she tried to answer them. "It was my mom's ring..It's all I really have from her. I..I wear it everywhere I go, but before I came in I put it in my pocket so it wouldn't get lost." and it did anyway so she should have just left it on she thought. "When I went to get more food it must have fallen out." Minerva looked back up at the Prefect and smiled a bit with some relief when she said she should know what to do. Thank goodness someone would get her mom's ring back if she lost that ring she would have nothing left ~~well except pictures~~ of her mother.

She watched at the girl knelt down and looked in the burrow she leaned as far as she could to see without getting in the way. "I'm Minerva, but everyone calls me Minnie or Min." She replied to the introduction. This Prefect was seeming so much nicer then some of the other ones she had come across in the last few terms. She watched with hopeful eyes when the Prefect looked back up at her saying about feeding it. "Oh yes, I went back to the shed and got more bugs." She reached into her robe pocket and pulled out a handful of dried dead bugs and put them out for Louisa to take hoping the older girl didn't mind touching dead bugs.

She looked down at the girl's palm and her eyes turned into O_O "Holy Merlin.." she gulped and looked at the younger girl's face which was very cool and flat considering the fact that she had DEAD BUGS lying on her hand. In normal occasions, Louisa would slap the hand away and call it a day but since she was a Prefect that was supposed to help younger students and set a role model and all that ~~nonsense~~, she gulped again and stretched her hand, "Ewewewewewewewewewewewewew.." would it have killed Minerva to simply get a POUCH to place those in? >__>

A shudder went through Louisa's body when the bugs hit her hand, she couldn't help but grimace as well... "I'm so going to heaven for this," she murmured to herself before offering a lame small smile at the girl. She didn't have to feel bad for this... much. Louisa liked to challenge herself ~~sometimes~~. "Okay.. here we go.." she moved, still squatting, to the opening of the burrow and poured the bugs on the ground retreating quickly as far as she could, gesturing for Minerva to retreat next to her. "Now we wait for it to come out and eat.. even if it only pokes its head out, it'll do."

Pause.

"Do you think Professor Williamson will get mad if I caught it with a rope?" Louisa pointed at her wand, hinting that she uses a spell.

"I was looking to see if there were any of those half bird, half horse thingys like Atticus had," she explained, "but there aren't any out here." Highly disappointing, but whatever. Maybe she'd go see Atticus soon or something to see the creature again.

Then, noticing the prefect was holding something, Penelope asked, "What's that?"

SPOILER!!: grossed out prefect

"Yes it's Minerva." she looked at the girl a little odd for a few seconds, didn't she just say her name. Wonder why she felt the need to repeat it, whatever she just wanted her mothers ring back and if Louisa was going to help her she could repeat whatever she wanted. Minerva couldn't help but chuckle a bit when the prefect looked a little shocked to see the bugs in her hand. "What some dead bugs freak you out?" What was with older girls being freaked out by bugs, Minnie wondered. It wasn't like the dead was were going to bite you or something. They were dead, it would be just like picking up rocks or something. She then again giggled a bit when she placed the handful of bugs in Louisa's hand. She was totally grossed out by the bugs and Minerva found this a little humors, but she tried to hold her giggled not to offend the prefect, she was trying to help and Minerva did need to help right now.

Minerva watched as Louisa placed the bugs down and then moved away. Minerva got confused when she moved further then she thought she should. How were they ever going to get the ring moving that far. This little thing was quick and if they were to far they would never find that ring, but she shrugged and moved back as well. She was not going to disobey a prefect after all. Prefect were as close to professors and she thought she heard that one took points away once, she did not want that to happen to her. Once she got closer to Louisa she heard the prefect as a question. "I'm going to say yes, but I don't know. Do you think we need him to help?"

Text Cut: Minnie

Louisa gave the younger student a narrowed eyes look, yes she was freaked out by dead BUGS. It was the bugs part that got on Louisa's nerves.. it should get on Minnie's nerves as well if the girl was NORMAL. Who liked bugs? They were gross and crawly and eeeewww. She didn't want to touch them dead or alive, thank you very much. However, the little girl did as Louisa said without complaint. The Ravenclaw made a mental note to admire the girl when this mission was accomplished.

"No, no. We don't need him on our tails. He'll probably just pet you on the head and call it a donation to the Niffler or something like that." The Hufflepuff girl clearly did not know how cunning and witty professor Williamson was. Louisa knew. "We'll wait for two minute, if it doesn't come out... I'll do something." Like... something, okay? Her mind would come up with something that is helpful. It was why she was chosen to be Prefect, right? Right.

Ahem.

Meanwhile, "Why don't we... chat for a bit? Like... tell me something exciting that happened to you today." Beside losing her mom's ring to a Niffler, which wasn't really exciting rather than... messed up.

SPOILER!!: Louisa

Minerva was still chuckling a bit about the dead bugs grossing out the prefects. She didn't see why bugs bothered her. They were just other creatures and well they were dead so they can't hurt anyone. She stood where the prefect wanted her to wondering how long it would take. Maybe the Niffler was full and would not come out. What if the Niffler ate her mother's ring. She started feeling a bit nervous again.

She frowned at the prefect when Louisa said Professor Williamson would just pet her on the head. "No, that is not a donation. It's my mothers ring, I haaaaveee to get it back." She knew it sounded whiny, but she was starting to really get upset over this. How could she lose her mother's ring, this was horrible. She hoped Louisa would do something like she said, but what if the Niffler doesn't come out??

Then she couldn't believe Louisa was trying to talk about her day. Was this chick crazy Minerva thought, her ring is missing keep to the mission she thought. "Well I guess the most exciting thing I have done today is get hurt by pixies in flying class. They are horrible creatures. I don't ever want to see them again." Maybe that wasn't what the girl wanted her to talk about though. So she smiled and tried to recover her lameness. "What about you anything exciting?"
