The astronomy classroom was once again transformed for the last seminar of term. The normal school desks had been replaced with rows of high work benches, and chairs swapped for tall bar-style stools. At the ends of each bench were dressmaking mannequins, simply hung with a tape measure around the neck. Fabric swatches hung like looped bunting from the ceiling, their bright geometric patterns catching in the gentle cool breeze from the open windows.
To one side was a row of tables containing an odd assortment of items: a metal bucket piled high with potatoes, another container full of small dull grey squares, a stack of shiny white tiles, metal racks, paint rollers and paint, a pile of Daily Prophet newspapers, a tin of metal rulers, a box of old shirts, a black bin bag full of stuffing...
And perched on the front desk, her legs lightly swinging underneath, was the tutor for this seminar - Miss Hermy Smythe, of the well-known art and fashion studio just off of Diagon Alley, Smythe and Scryver Designs. She had a warm smile on her face, and clearly an eclectic fashion sense. Beaded bracelets jangle on her wrist as she welcomes you in past a cluster of mannequins dressed in Miss Smythe’s own designs.
“Good morning,” she greets, pushing up her sleeves and rearranging her bracelets. “Please take a seat and make yourselves comfortable. If you’ve worn something you’d rather not get messy, then feel free to take a painting shirt from the box on the side for protection.”

Alyssa made her way up to the Astronomy tower for yet another seminar. This time was was about Fashion and Textile Design. Something that sounded very muggle looking, but Alyssa was interested to see what it was all about. She made sure that she wore something that she didn't mind getting dirty.
Entering the classroom, she saw a row of tables with an assortment of things on them. 'This is definitely going to be an interesting class.' Alyssa though to herself as she walked past them and headed to greet the woman sitting perched on the desk up front.
"Good morning, Ma'am. Welcome to Hogwarts. My name is Alyssa Potter and it is nice to meet you."
Being the first student there, Alyssa just took the first seat right up in front. took out her writing materials and waited for the other students to show up.

Hmm...Fashion and Textile design. The notice had caught Emmanuelle's eyes as soon as she had spotted it on the noticeboard. So, when it came time for the lesson, she had thrown on the oldest clothes she could find (which really weren't that old at all, just from last summer) and trudged her way up to the Astronomy tower. Upon entering the room set aside for the class, she spotted somethings that seemed out of place for a design lesson. Buckets of potatoes. Tiles. Paint with rollers. Stuffing. What the heck were they doing there? Those didn't belong in a class about textile design!
Taking one of the old shirts (she didn't really need it, she just thought it'd look cool with her tank top and shorts), she greeted who she assumed was the guest lecturer with a smile. "Hello, Madame. I'm Emmanuelle Moreau, it's nice to meet you." That done, she found herself a stool, pulled on the shirt and sat waiting for the class to begin.

Nigel did not why he decided to go to this seminar. He did not really care about Fashion and Textile Design. but he was willing to give it a chance.
It wasn't like it was a far walk from his common room so he entered the class and noticed all the weird items but especially the metal bucket piled high with potatoes. Nigel wondered what they could possibly be doing that would require a bucket of potatoes.
"Hello Ma'am, I'm Nigel Barrington, it's a pleasure to meet you"
Nigel did not know who she was so it a good idea to be polite. He walked over to take a painting shirt from the box on the side for protection because he did not want his clothes to get ruined doing whatever they were going to do.
Once he had his painting shirt he found the most comfortable seat he could find adn sat down waiting for this seminar to start.

Kurumi honestly had no idea why she was here for this seminar. At least with Alchemy she had a genuine interest in the subject matter. The second one, well, she had been frozen for it but it had been right up her alley as a photographer for the yearbook. She was still rather upset about missing it and would have to get notes from someone on what was learned. But this...this one was about fashion...and if anyone knew Kurumi they knew that she didn't have a clue. She just wore whatever was comfortable and had a rather extensive collection of boots.
Fashion and textile design? Might as well be speaking Latin to her.
Nervously Kurumi made her way into the room and made her way to the front where she first greeted their next guess instructor. "Good day," Kurumi said with a small polite bow. "I'm Kurumi Hollingberry, Gryffindor prefect. Welcome to Hogwarts." And hopefully she was familiar with Howarts and knew what Gryffindor was.
Bowing one more time, Kurumi took a seat in the front row and set her bag on the floor next to her overly stylized seat and actually took the time to observe the set up. Potatoes? Wait...Kurumi had used potatoes before to make stamps with her grandmother when she was really little. Her grandmother was more fabric dyer for kimono, but she did do a few small craft projects with Kurumi when she was little.
Hmmm...interesting.

Ella found herself making the long trip to the astronomy tower if only to satisfy her curiosity about the days seminar. Though the second year didn't consider herself a fashionista or anything, she did appreciate clothing and wondered what it would be like to design her own. So when she found out that there would be a class on designing such things, she was actually quite intrigued.
Upon entering the classroom, Ella was interested to find the various fabric swatches hanging about and the dress making mannequins placed here and there. Heh. This was like...a real design studio or something! It was actually quite cool to look at! She also took note of the interesting woman sitting behind the desk. Oh! That must be the instructor. Ella gave the woman a smile before introducing herself. "Hello, I'm Ella Bishop. I'm quite excited for this lesson." And with that, the thirteen year old turned and headed over to an empty stool, eager to get started.

Nerida headed out for the last seminar of the year. She was extremely excited about the latest seminar. This one she would actually be interested in the first one she was very confused, the second one-well she did not get to go to due to her being frozen but she might have liked it. She knew she would like the final seminar, it was about fashion and textile design, who didn't like that? Nerida may have been only fourteen but she knew a lot about fashion, just look at her wardrobe. Her mother had to make a whole new truck just for her shoes and then shrink it into her regular one...It was a pain when she wanted to wear other shoes.
As she entered the class room a big grin came onto her face as she looked around. Yeap, this was definitively for her! Being a Ravenclaw did not mean she didn't have a sense of fashion. Nerida grinned as she walked over to the front of the classroom. Good day, ma'am. I am Nerida Eventide, its a pleasure to meet you. Welcome to Hogwarts!
Nerida still wore the big grin as she made her way to a seat in a front. Wonder if Narumi or Sarassi will make an apperance? She gave a wave towards Kurumi when she sat down. It was always nice to be polite. The only downside for the lesson was that Nerida had to wear her glasses her brother thought it would be funny to tattle on her to her mum and now she had to wear her glasses and Sarassi would be keeping watch. Looking over at the shirts Nerida shrugged she didn't need a shirt she liked to get paint on her clothes though her mum would 'kill' her when she brought the dress home and than she would mumble to herself and clean the dress, well her dad would do that now since her mum was in the hospital still fighting the cancer. Though she would be taking off her jacket. She rethought it and went and grabbed a painting shirt just in case.

Jory was looking forward to this lesson. He was never interested in fashion but that didn't mean he wasn't willing to learn about clothing and stuff.
"Hello, good day,'' Jory greeted the woman. "I'm Jory Stonewall. And I'm looking forward to this lesson.'' He gave her a smile before he headed off to take a painting shirt and thento find a seat and get settled.
Mika made her way into the refurbished astronomy classroom. Her new obsession - well jewelery collection all being worn at once. Like a classic eleven year old she was over doing the jewels. Well - they weren't jewels actually just rather heavy anchors. There was an anchor bow, anchor rings - one double finger-ring, one just for one finger, and then there was the necklace and the earrings and the bracelet as well.
She walked into the room looking like a tricked out sailor that was pretending to be an eleven year old girl. Really, it was pathetic.
"Hi" she waved, the one-finger-ring that had been on her pinky and was obviously too big went FLYING off soaring through the air.
She gulped nervously and tugged on her sweater. "W-welcome to hogwarts! I'm Amelia Johanson - but you can call me Mika! Thats what my fashion line" she twirled around in a circle and bopped her head to the side as she curtsied "is going to be called" and she said it all without a gap.
She smiled glanced at the fabric all around she loved it all. Textile work must have been fun for anyone who wasn't in it during turn of the last century - you know when they had those icky mills and poor muggles lost their arms on those BIG machines.
Maybe the machines were just hungry.

Janice was no big fan of clothes. Her mother's every attempt to make her girlier always involves either dresses, manners, sparkles and rainbows, or a combination of the mentioned items. And, apparently, it's not working out.
She just came to the seminar to be polite, but she didn't expect the astronomy tower to be transformed into a nightmare. Mannequins, ribbons, and fabric were everywhere, and the more she looked at the stuff, her heart got crushed even more. Fortunately, Janice is exceptionally good in hiding emotions, so she put her normal face up and jumped into the hole went into the room.
"Hello, Miss," she said politely. "Welcome to Hogwarts! I'm Janice Trewhella, and if you don't mind me asking, what are the potatoes for?"
A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.
Fashion AND comfortable clothes?

The Slytherin entered the astronomy tower wearing his brothers old clothes that he had asked to send him when it was announced that they had a new seminar lesson. But despite that it were old clothes that could get dirty , they were also too big for his body.
He had to roll up his sleeves several times and his pants touched the ground, covering his shoes. And the all grey outfit didn't make this anymore *fashionable*
Seeing the woman greeting the students he pushed his chest out and walked over. Ocassionally tripping over his pants before coming to a halt in front of her. "Hello~ welcome to Hoggy!" he smiled and bowed before getting up and he staaaaaaared at her bracelets.

Oh good, a boy! Hermy had been worried she'd put them off with the idea of 'fashion design', even though she'd made the activities so that everyone could enjoy them. "Nice to meet you too, Nigel," she replied.

Hermy grinned at the young Hufflepuff. "It's not quite my own studio," she said with a wink, "But pretty cool all the same, huh?" She's tried to transform the Astronomy classroom into a studio as much as possible, to help unleash everyone's creativity. "And I'm excited for it too, Ella. I just hope it doesn't disappoint..."

Seeing the Ravenclaw's face light up, Hermy's grin widened. It was that reaction she'd come here to teach for. To hopefully inspire some of these kids - whether it be into art, fashion and design, or just in their own wardrobe. "Good day, Nerida. Welcome to my makeshift studio."

Another boy? Awesome! "Hello Jory," Hermy said, returning the boy's smile. Blimey, it was nice of all these kids to tell her their names...but she really hoped they didn't expect her to remember them all straight off! "I hope you find it interesting."

Wow, this young Claw was definitely into her clothes! Maybe overplaying the marine thing just a little bit then Hermy would go for herself, but that was the fun of fashion, right? Everyone could do their own thing.
"Hi!" Hermy replied, neatly catching the ring as it flew from the girls finger. Heh, seemed like her old Quidditch reflexes hadn't been lost just yet. "Oops!" she said, holding it out to her. "You might want to put that somewhere safe for the lesson," Hermy said with a wink. "And I love your style. Mika, you say? I can't wait to see what you produce!" Aww, the 'Claw was so excited!

Hermy swung her legs under the desk, and waved at the Hufflepuff. "Do come in and make yourself comfortable, Janice," she said warmly. Really Hermy wasn't to be scared of at ALL. The potatoes? Her eyes twinkled. "That, my dear, you'll find out soon enough."
Hermy surveyed the room as it filled up. She was pleasantly surprised at how friendly the students were at greeting her, despite being a total stranger. This warm reception made being back at Hogwarts after so long a little less weird, and she rubbed her hands together excitedly at the thought of the lesson she'd got planned - the many bracelets on her wrist jangling once more. She just hoped she'd got the balance about right for the lesson to suit everybody's tastes - she'd definitely tried not to make it too girly or just about the beautiful gowns her studio had become known for. There were a couple on display at the front of the room, as well as a few more funky painted t-shirt designs, abstract printed pants, and even some doodled canvas shoes. As much as she was known for glamorous gowns worn by some Wizarding celebrities, she actually preferred working on the other stuff.
"I'll just wait for the last stragglers to come up the stairs," she said, raising her voice about the general noise of the students who'd already arrived. Glancing round at uniforms suggested either Slytherin were completely uninspired by the topic, or lagging at getting up the stairs. "But please feel free grab a painting shirt if you need one, and maybe have a think about some of the things you see around you ready for when we start."
ooc: The seminar will start properly in about 3 hours. I'm going to keep things moving fairly quickly as Hermy has lots of fun things planned, so don't worry about catching up and just jump on in when you can.
This seminar was sure to be the best out of them all. Renesmee had a huge passion for fashion. She was always attempting to follow as many trends as possible, although her own style varied from girlie dresses and skirts, to preppy pants and blouses. Nessie’s mother might have had a big influence on her fashion sense, but yet she felt it was one of the only things she liked about her mother and her influences.
Taking full advantage of the non required-uniform class, Renesmee had made sure to dress well. She wanted to look smart yet fashionable at the same time, which was why she ended up wearing a stripped blue top that went with tailored pants and a trendy blazer. She felt really hip and all dressed like she was.
What she didn't realise was that she was supposed to be wearing something comfortable and something that could get messy.
Finally after all those stairs, Renesmee entered the astronomy tower. "Good morning" she said with a wide smile. She was really looking forward to this whole seminar.
She went over to the painting shirts, took one and then put it on. She felt just a little over dressed now, but she honestly hadn’t expected there to be any sort of messy work today. Maybe this lesson would be more surprising and interesting than she thought. She’d just have to wait and see.
Taking a desk, Renesmee looked around at all the objects in the classroom as she waited for the last few students to pile in.

Sarah liked fashion - or rather the artistic and creative side of her do. As in intellectual, Sarah maintained that she dressed for herself, yet if only she really believed it. She had a great sense of colour ans style though, yet as a free spirit, she would not let otherrs tastes influence her own. She liked the classic, simple, modest, elegant style.In her mind a ballgown was perfect and she really liked the Victorian syle - the corsets (which suited Sarah's tiny waist perfectly) and all. "Good Day Madame, welcome, I am so glad they they have this as a seminar, as I do like to sew and embroider, and I planning on Sewing a nice Summer dress during the break." She said Warmly. She scoffed at the suggestion of clothes to protect her things afterall - she was not the type to bring her best clothes away from home.
Up the stairs to the astronomy tower for a seminar lesson. Though Silvia would much rather have been making her way up here for astronomy. Sigh, she missed that class a lot. She really did not know what to expect from this lesson; Silvia didn't care much for fashion. But she figured it couldn't hurt to show up and see how things go. At least the tower wasn't far from her dormitory.
"Good Morning," Silvia said to the guest instructor as she took a seat at one of the benches and quietly waited for the lesson to begin.

Fashion? Were they bloody serious with this seminar subject? I mean, merlin it was a class not dress up. But she had to admit as much as she hated the whole idea of a class on fashion... She was a girl. So there was a part of her that was genuinely interested in the seminar. Come on, it was fashion.
So when she entered the tower, she smiled at the guest speaker and said, "Hello, I'm Selina. Pleasure to meet you. Welcome to Hogwarts."
The Slytherin entered the astronomy tower wearing his brothers old clothes that he had asked to send him when it was announced that they had a new seminar lesson. But despite that it were old clothes that could get dirty , they were also too big for his body.
He had to roll up his sleeves several times and his pants touched the ground, covering his shoes. And the all grey outfit didn't make this anymore *fashionable*
Seeing the woman greeting the students he pushed his chest out and walked over. Ocassionally tripping over his pants before coming to a halt in front of her. "Hello~ welcome to Hoggy!" he smiled and bowed before getting up and he staaaaaaared at her bracelets.
Can he steal those? O_o
Hermy stifled a chuckle as this one came in. It looked like someone had raided someone elses wardrobe. "Hello," Hermy said, returning the boys smile. "And thank you. It's been a while..." She gave him a nod of her head - except rather than going to find a seat, he seemed to be staring at her bracelets. Huh? She raised an inquisitive eyebrow. "Er, can I help you Mister - ?" Had he given her a name? She couldn't remember with everyone else coming in.

This seminar was sure to be the best out of them all. Renesmee had a huge passion for fashion. She was always attempting to follow as many trends as possible, although her own style varied from girlie dresses and skirts, to preppy pants and blouses. Nessie’s mother might have had a big influence on her fashion sense, but yet she felt it was one of the only things she liked about her mother and her influences.
Taking full advantage of the non required-uniform class, Renesmee had made sure to dress well. She wanted to look smart yet fashionable at the same time, which was why she ended up wearing a stripped blue top that went with tailored pants and a trendy blazer. She felt really hip and all dressed like she was.
What she didn't realise was that she was supposed to be wearing something comfortable and something that could get messy.
Finally after all those stairs, Renesmee entered the astronomy tower. "Good morning" she said with a wide smile. She was really looking forward to this whole seminar.
She went over to the painting shirts, took one and then put it on. She felt just a little over dressed now, but she honestly hadn’t expected there to be any sort of messy work today. Maybe this lesson would be more surprising and interesting than she thought. She’d just have to wait and see.
Taking a desk, Renesmee looked around at all the objects in the classroom as she waited for the last few students to pile in.
Well, this one certainly liked her fashion. Hermy wasn't sure it quite followed her suggestion about comfort and being able to get messy...but there were painting shirts that could sort that little hiccup out. "Good morning," she greeted. "I love your blazer."

"Nice to meet you Selina," Hermy said, glancing back at the door to see if everyone had come in. "Thanks. It's a real pleasure to be here today."
As the rush of students subsided, Hermy clapped her hands together and jumped lightly down from the front desk. She smoothed her jeans down, rearranged her bracelets and tucked a stray of hair behind her ear as she let everyone get settled in.
"Welcome to the last external seminar of this term, Fashion and Textile Design," she introduced. "My name is Hermy Smythe, and I'm here today to talk a little bit about what I do, and let you do some designing of your own." She vaguely gestured in the direction of all the mysterious things down the side of the room. "If you've got any questions along the way, either about myself, my work, of which some is displayed in this room, or the industry in general, please feel free to ask." And with that, she wandered around the front desk, to the blackboard on one side, and picked up the chalk in her left hand.
"Before we go into too much, let's talk about the notion of 'fashion' and what it means. Can anyone name a fashion designer, and what they're most well known for? Magical or Muggle, I don't mind."

Srah did not no many fashion designers, because farnakly she was not interested in designer lables. As longs as the outfit was pretty and cheap Sarah wore it. Yet her muggle grandmother knew some. her grandmother had a whole collection of her favourite oufits or dresses by designers and she had a board on them. One particular picture was her favourite- a wedding dress. It was a wedding dress fit for a princess. "Sarah Burton, creative designer for Alexander McQueen desinged in 2011 a wedding dress for the Royal Wedding. That dress gave her fame worldwide. The dress had lace sleeves" said Sarah.

Cool! So they would be getting to do some designing! This made Ella bounce a little on her stool as she was quite excited about the idea. Oh...and what fashion designer did she know? Well since her mother was a photographer, Ella knew lots of names...though not a lot about what kind of work they did. One in particular came to mind and the second year raised her hand. "I believe Betsey Johnson is one. She makes really fun and colorful stuff! Dad says it's a little funky, though." Yes, her dad had been forced to sit through countless discussions about fashion between mother and daughter, though he was free of that now that Ella's mom had left them...
This seminar lady had said she liked her blazer. That was so sweet, and it made Renesmee feel a little bit better about being over dressed for this class. At least someone had apreciated what she worse, you know she had spend quite a bit of time getting ready and all. Fashionable clothes wasn't something that took you just five seconds to put togther.
OMG! Fashion Designers! Renemee could name so many. There was Valentino, Coco Channel and even Calvin Klein. Though of course there was one certain designer Ness thought had to be the best for an answer. She raised her hand. "There's Louis Vuitton." she said beaming. "She's known for her amazing bags and accessories." Nessie herself had a few Louis Vuitton items, but it was her mother that had much more items than her.

"Come on It'll be fun." Indiana beamed, as she clung onto her boyfriend's hand. It was going to be fun. Indy liked fashion, she liked looking pretty. So it was going to be fun. She had considered that her boyfriend was a boy, but boys needed to be fashionable too. "it won't be all about Clothes..." And anyway. He could pick out pretty things for her right? Anyway. Indy was sure he liked fashion, he did look pretty fashionable all the time. andd now they were in the astronomy tower. "It won't be that bad." She concluded, pausing by the door to the class room. "You can drag me to do whatever you want later..." She nodded, before dragging him into the room, and over to a seat.

That lady was a force to be reckoned with...and she was OCD about appearance.

On another note, though...Dylan did happen to know a lot about fashion. He'd been pushed in front of a camera at a very early age...and had also been stuffed into really nice, uncomfortable clothes. His mother had always said she'd wanted a girl...and had tortured him because he wasn't one. Dylan just KNEW that was what was going on...

Being tugged towards a seat, Dylan lowered himself, trying to hide his face. Sweet Merlin, this was EMBARRASSING!

With one last bow of his head, the fourth year found a place to sit and placed his bag beside the table. All was well untill...
THEY walked in.
In a second, Daichi's cheerful looking eyes turned blank and a wave of jealousy went through him as he watched his crush Indy holding hands with Dylan. UGH. *dearest?* REALLY?! Not liking that word one bit , Daichi raised his hand. "Professor? Those two are being too smushy wooshy together" Well, technically they weren't but even the smallest sweetest word made him want to puke. Jealousy was a weird thing...
"And my m-mother liked this one designer...Yeojin..Bae..i think she was called" he said after pushing up his hand for a second time. "She's a muggle and the youngest designer to attent a school at the age of 15"
Lowering his hand with a small smile, Daichi looked over at the two yuck love birds and gave Indy a quick smile before giving Dylan a nasty look.
Nigel did not really follow fashion so all he really knew was from what he saw for himself. He did know about Giorgio Armani because his dad wore one of his suits once.
He guessed he will just use his name because he also had a question of Miss Smythe.
"One Designer is Giorgio Armani. He famous of his suits and many other things. Oh, and Miss Smythe, who is your favorite Fashion Designer and what do you like most about your job?"
He might as well learn something about the teacher because Nigel will probably never see her again.

Ah, good, someone had brought up an accessory. She should have known, given that the girl had such a great tailored jacket and clearly had her own sense of style. "A long-standing brand, Louis Vuitton, and still highly popular," Hermy said with smile. "I'm glad you mentioned someone who designs accessories - they can be as much a part of someone's outfit and style as their clothes." She gestured at her own wrists. Hermy's homemade bracelets had been very much a part of her own sense of fashion since she'd been at Hogwarts. She added Louis Vuitton to the list, and sketched a stylish handbag beside his name.

"Glad you could take the time out of your social lives to join us," she said, a wry smile playing on her lips. She was sure she'd had times like that at Hogwarts, but it was certainly interesting being on the otherside. "Perhaps you'll like to settle down quickly, and then offer me the name of a fashion designer and their specialty?" Hopefully that would embarass them enough to not interupt the lesson further.

"I'm well aware, Daichi," Hermy said with a knowing look. She didn't know what his personal interest was, but she'd keep an eye in case it threatened the lesson for him or anyone else.
"Yes. Yeojin Bae was a very young talent in Australia. Her main focus is on tailored womenswear, elegance and stylish...but with a little edge." Her name was added to the board.

At his question, Hermy rest her hand on one hip, and tilted her head thoughtfully. "I really love the quirkiness of some of Lulu Guinness' vintage bags," she said after a pause. "But I must say I'm also a big fan of anyone who has the confidence to go out and do their own thing - whether it be customise a high street t-shirt, or make their own jewellery. That's how I stumbled into this career, really."
"As for my job - doing what I love to do...being creative." She grinned.
"Any other designers or brands you can think of?" Hermy asked to the class. There were plenty out there that she knew they'd heard of. What about the shop in Diagon Alley for example? "They don't have to be high end....what about the sort of stuff you yourselves are inspired to wear? Accessories? Footwear? Jewellery? And...why are you inspired to wear it? What makes it 'fashion'"
