The Student Garden: Herbology Lesson Three (Part Two)
Herbology Lesson Three - Part Two
After packing up earlier that morning, Seren had wandered up to the castle and raided the kitchens before taking a snooze in the staff room. Perhaps it hadn't been such a good idea, but it seemed like the easiest and most rewarding option at the time.
It was some time after noon now, and the Student Garden had again been transformed for the purpose of the lesson. This time it reflected a classroom. You're average, everyday, classroom.. you know, the ones with desks and chairs. Only this was set out in rows on the grass in front of the two bushes they had observed the previous night. The Norandola bushes were unrecognisable now. The male bush had taken on an almost cactus like appearance with sharp purple spikes. The female Norandula was a little smaller than the previous night, big, bright, purple flowers covered it's spindly branches, and along these brunches, bundled up around nodules there were a number of beans. The shiny brownish red beans were the size of an average thumb nail. Caltex, Seren's little bundle of white fluff was positioned in front of the two bushes, as if he were keeping guard of them.
Bentley's blackboard had been dragged out for today's lesson and is positioned beside the two bushes at the front of the class, two sacks of fresh soil and a number of plain terracotta pots sat at its base.
Professor Bentley stands in front of the board, scrawling across it in chalk. The message reads....

Jory entered the Student garden which was now laid out like a normal classroom. He looked at the two Norandola bushes were so different now and he could hardly imagine they were the same bushes from last night. "Hi, Professor Bentley,'' the puff greeted when he spotted her. He stifled a yawn, he was a bit sleepy.
Jory chose a station not too far from the front of the class. After he had placed his bag on it, he headed over to collect a pot and some soil.
*sighs* I had a bit of a muse issue the last couple of days.

The coffee the night before had definitely helped. Stella had gotten more at breakfast, too, so she had asufficient amount of energy going into the second part of the Herbology lesson. Even if she'd been quiet during pretty much the entire first part, she wasn't about to not go to the second part. Ther was always participation, and besides, she liked Professor Bentley, even if she wasn't her favorite professor. It wasn't the professor's falut she wasn't really a Herbology person after all. She blinked as she saw how the Student Garden had transformed, though. That was unexpected, but she made her way to a station with a clear view of the two bushes, which definitely had changed as well. Setting her bag down on the seat, she turned toward the blackboard and the supplies underneath.
"Bonjour, Professor Bentley. It's a beautiful day outside, isn't it?," she greeted the professor with a smile, collecting a pot and the suggested small bucketful of soil before she realized that there was someone else she could greet. The little puppy underneath the bushes, which she hadn't really noticed when she'd been setting her bag down. "Hi puppy," she said toward the dog, even though she kept distance between her and it just in case. It seemed awfully focused on not letting people close to the Norandola bushes after all, but it was still adorable too. Therefore she wasn't about to ignore it.

"Oooh," Janice said to herself as she walked into the classroom. "Hello, Professor!" she greeted her as she passed Bentley.
"Hi," she waved to Jory, a fellow classmate and Badger, as she went up front to collect a pot and a small bucket of soil. She chose a station next to him and sat.

Kurumi hadn't intended to stay up so late, usually she only did so when it was an Astronomy lesson night or...well...when she couldn't sleep because she was crying under the covers. Neither had been the case last night, as the reason for the mild bags under the prefect's eyes had come from observing the pollination process for as long as she could before her body was telling her to head back to the Gryffindor common room and sleeping.
Entering the student garden, Kurumi was a bit startled by the changes that had been done, but didn't linger too long on it as her eyes drifted to the puppy! "Caltex!" she squeaked as she rushed towards the puppy - momentarily forgetting that Professor Bentley was present. "How are you doing boy?" She reached out and then noticed Professor Bentley. "Oh, um..." Awkward. Kurumi chewed on her lower lip and retracted her hand. "Good day, professor." Awkward.
Kurumi then turned her attention to the two plants and her jaw almost dropped. They were as different as night and day! It was a good thing that Kurumi didn't realize the terrible pun she had just made, because she probably would have smacked her forehead.
She should...probably go find a seat now...but first...
Blushing, Kurumi made her way towards the pots and soil, collecting what had been instructed, and then headed towards an empty station.

A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.
Daichi made his way back to the student garden after a good half night of sleeping. He wasn't tired anymore and it was shown on his features because instead of yawning and rubbing his eyes, he was now smiling as he walked over the path. Last night, he had dreamed about getting wings like a duck and he had been flying around the castle~
So yeah, that made him happy.
"Mooorning Professor Bentley~" he said, extending the o in morning and then walked to grab a pot and small bucket of soil before moving towards an empty working space. Placing his stuff down, he now looked at the place where the bushes had stood yesterday but they weren't there anymore. "Eh? odd..." he whispered to himself but then his eyes looked down at a white fluffy animal that looked to be a dog.

Amelia smiled as she made her way towards where the lesson was being held today. "Hello, Professor Bentley! How are you?" she asked as she looked around, taking everything in. Unfortunately, she greatly preferred the appearance of the plants in the moonlight, but she supposed all the purple she was seeing was a good thing.
In the meantime though, she was just going to focus on doing what was instructed, so she went up and grabbed a pot and bucket of soil before heading to a station.

Ella walked down to the student garden, surprised to see that a normal classroom setup. Then she noticed the norandola plants. They were completely different! She felt kind of bad for the male one as it looked as if it had been sucked dry or something. Its cactus-like appearance made it look harsh. The female plant was certainly smaller and now had pretty purple flowers and little-beans? Well that was different.
Spotting the Professor busy at the board, Ella smiled. "Hi Professor Bentley, nice day huh?" Then she headed to find a station, dropping off her bag at one up the front. Reading what was written on the board, Ella then headed up to grab a pot and bucket of soil. She returned to her seat, eagerly awaiting the start of the lesson.
There is nothing written on his face when Hades entered the greenhouse. His face looks blank or rather... Sleepy. The hot chocolate made fell asleep soundly last night, thanks to Professor Bentley. But now, Hades prefers to be in his comfortable bed compare to a greenhouse. He would appreciate to have another couple of hours of sleep. I took him long enough to notice that the greenhouse looks like nothing before. "Oh... What is this?" Hades mumbles to himself before he walks further into the greenhouse.
"Good mornin', professor..." he waves his hand lazily and gives the professor a weak smile before he approaches a work station which looks the most comfortable to him.

Harvey entered the Student Garden and was surprised to see the transformation that had taken place.. there were desks and chairs.. oh and a board as well.. just like a normal classroom. "Hello Professor.. how are you today?" he greeted his professor smiling and then he smiled wider as he saw Caltex and he went towards him "Hey Buddy! and how are you?!" and went to stroke him.. but stopped.. he looked at the plants and then Caltex and the focus that could be seen on his little face.. and he knew that right now was not the right time to play with him.. he could do that later in the office.. so he stood back up and hoped the professor didnt mind he wanted to play with Caltex.. he then noticed how different the two bushes looked.. not only had the Garden transformed into a classroom but these bushes had also transformed.
He then read the board and he then went and put his bags down before he collected a pot and a small bucket of soil before sitting back down and waiting for the lesson to begin.

Alyssa quickly entered the student gardens and greeted the Professor,"Hello Professor, glad to be back here again."she smiled her greeting before finding an empty workstation. She placed her bag pack on it before going back up to collect a pot and a bucket of soil. It was only then that she noticed the changes in the Norandola bushes. The male ones looked like cacti and the female bushes had bright purple flowers.
'That's totally amazing what direct moonlight during a full moon can do to a plant.' Alyssa thought to herself as she brought her items back to get workstation and prepared for class to start.

After the educated and interesting lesson the night before, Gideon was even more intriged for what was to come when they regrouped. The boy was excited waiting just to see what had changed for the plants seeing as Professor Bentley and even some students had been quite adamant that they were different during the full moon then they were when it was any other time. Entering the student gardens once more, the fifth year took in the modified set-up of the area into a more classroom setting but it was the sight of the two plants before them that caught his full attention.
Wow...
It was almost as if someone had been busy in the morning, moving and replanting the bushes, replacing them with a totally different plant. It was only his knowledge that the professor likely wouldn't do something like that and that they were told they would still be working with the Norandolas that spoke otherwise. "Good afternoon, Professor," he replied greeting the woman as he came to the front, chosing one of the desks nearest to their subject for the lessons. "They certainly do change quite a bit over different times," he remarked as he set his belongings down before moving to retrieve what they were told to.

Lily walked down to the greenhouses looking kinda sleepy. She didn't always like it when she had late night classes and then couldn't sleep very well. But she put on a smile as she entered the gardens. "Hello Professor Bentley... How are you this afternoon? It is afternoon, right?" Lily greeted the professor as she walked in and made her way to a station before getting the necessary equipment needed. It wasn't until after she had everything she needed before she saw the plants they had been watching yesterday. "Woah... those are way different..."

Violet stepped out to the Student Garden for the next part of the lesson. She was quite excited for it the next part of the lesson. "Hello Professor Bentley," Violet said cheerfully as she found an empty station around the garden. She put down her bag and coat, then walked over to where the pots and soil were. Were they going to plant more plants for this lesson? Violet always loved to plant new things, but she wasn't sure what this lesson will bring out. She used the shovel to scoop up some soil into the plain, brown pot and carefully brought it back to her bag.
She took a big yawn before settling on the ground. She shouldn't have stayed up so late last night, but she couldn't sleep for some unknown reason.

Right.. it looked as though most of the students had gathered their things. Though a couple of them seemed not to bother with the task. "If you haven't done so already, come up and grab a pot and a bucket of soil," she instructed. Pausing to wait for the last few students to finish this task.
"Now as we discussed last night, the Norandola has the ability to change it's appearance. No two plants look alike... except for when they're under the influence of the Moon." She indicated to the two bushes which looked remarkably different than the night before. "As you can see, if you look close enough, the beans have formed where the silver crescents were. One of the advantages of the Norandola is that the beans form within a matter of hours, though this only happens during the Full Moon."
Looking down, Seren noticed that Caltex had wandered from his post in front of the bushes, instead choosing to roll and rub himself against an insect of some description.
Turning back to the class, she continued. "Today you will each be imprinting a part of yourself onto a Norandola bean, and you will be planting it into these pots." Yes, that's right, they all got to have super cool plants that resembled them. "So if you've ever wandered what you would look like as a plant, you'll soon find out." More or less.
"But before we get to the beans, you need to prepare your pots. Start by checking to see if your pot has sufficient drainage. You'll know if it does if the pot has four holes in the bottom of it. I know that some of these pots only have three... if that is the case, you need to come up and get yourself a handful of pebbles to place in the bottom of the pot."
She took up a small sack which contained small grey pebbles and placed it on a spare desk at the front. "Fill your pot with soil and make a hole in the center with your finger."

"Hey, Janice!'' Jory greeted his friend as she sat down next to him.
He turned his attention to Professor Bentley who had just started to give the class instructions. He decided this was going to be a cool lesson. He was more than interested to see himself as a plant.
Turning over the pot he'd just collected, Jory saw his was one that had three holes. "Be right back,'' he told Janice as he hopped off his seat to go get a handful of those small grey pebbles.
Back at his station, the Puff placed the pebbles carefully at the bottom of his pot. Next, he carefully transferred soil from the bucket into the pot, after which he made a hole in the center with his finger.
Finished with that set of instructions, Jory made some notes and watched his fellows finish up.

Alyssa listened as the Professor told them what to do. Then she checked to see whether her pot had four or three holes. Noticing that her's had only three holes, she hopped off her chair and walked back up to the front and grabbed some pebbles from the small sack the Professor had in front. Then returning to her workstation, she placed the pebbles carefully in the pot, before picking up her bucket of soil and slowly pouring the soil into the pot.
Once the pot was filled with soil, Alyssa placed the bucket back on the ground then turned to the pot and using her Index finger, she drilled a hole right in the center of the soil. Once she was done, she picked up her quill and quickly wrote down the steps in her journal.

She took up a small sack which contained small grey pebbles and placed it on a spare desk at the front. "Fill your pot with soil and make a hole in the center with your finger."

We're making plant versions ourself? Janice thought. Scary, but very cool indeed. She checked her pot to see if there are four holes under it, and yes, it has. She watched Jory as he went up for the pebbles. Looks like the pots are different, after all.
And that was the moment when she noticed the little white furball. Her eyes widened. OOH MERLIN'S PANTS HE'S SO CUTE!!!! Her head screamed in delight as she made a hole in the soil she had put in the pot.

"Can I touch him, professor?" she asked.
It didn't surprise her that Caltex was getting so much attention. The Pomeranian had a way with people. Wrapping them around his little fluffy paw. "I don't see why not, but be careful... he likes shoe laces." Hence why she no longer wore anything with them. Turns out they made for better food than clothing.

Merlin, everyone seemed to have had the bad luck of picking a pot with only three holes. Kurumi turned hers over and was relieved to find that her pot had four, so there was no need for her to go back up to the front - which was good because she probably would have returned to her seat with the doggie and been too distracted to complete the rest of the lesson. Putting her gloves on, Kurumi used her hands to scoop the soil into her pot and pat it down every now and again, turning the soil as well to make sure that enough air could pass through. Once it was filled, Kurumi stuck her index finger into the soil up to her knuckle and pulled it out.
Now that that was done, Kurumi looked at the two plants and cocked her head to the side. IF this plant took on characteristics and traits of the person who planted them..."Professor," Kurumi asked after she addressed the Hufflepuff. "Who...planted those two?"

Yaaay. Pots. And planting. Indy liked this. Indiana smiled as she looked at her pot. Now she hoped it already had four holes into it. Because well, she didnt really feel like walking to the front of the class to get some pebbles. She was feeling lazy. Maybe thats what teenagers did? Felt lazy all the time. Indy mused, picking her plant pot, and looking inside it. Wooot. Four holes. Perfect. Indy was clearly very good at picking the good pots. At least now she didn't need to get get any pebbles. After all, with four hole in, her pot already had very good drainage. Indy placed her pot back onto the bench. No need for pebbles, that was very good. Now she needed to put soil into it. Now...she was going to be careful. Because she really didn't want to do a Spike and get the soil all over the place. Because that would be pretty tragic.
Indy scooped up some soil, and placed it into her pot gently, trying not get any of the on the bench. A little bit slipped over the side, but it wasn't a huge mess so it didn't really matter that much. Indy smiled, noticing that she was done now. Okay. Last thing now she needed to do now was poke a little hole into the soil. Using her finger, she poked a little hole into the top of the soil. Sorrted.

The attempt at replying to her in French brought a grin to Stella's face. It wasn't so much that Professor Bentley hadn't said it right, but the blended accent was the slightest bit amusing. She'd turned her attention back to her pot and soil, though, not wanting to be too distracted from the lesson. Even though others had greeted the puppy as well, she didn't want to rush the poor creature. It was easier to just give the puppy another smile, and then head back to her station. Especially as the class discussion had begun not long after she’d sat back down. So their discussion the night before was just being verified, as she could definitely see the difference in the Norandola bushes. Both between the two and compared to what they’d looked like before. She wasn’t quite about to look closer, though. Looking at them from her seat was good enough, although her interest piqued as they were told they were going to imprint themselves on the beans.
She didn’t exactly know how that would come about, but she figured they’d get the process explained soon enough. It wasn’t worth sounding stupid and asking, at least, so she kept her attention on the steps they’d already been given. Checking their pots, getting them ready for planting. Tilting her chosen pot to one side, she glanced at the bottom and counted the holes. Four, she thought, relieved. It wouldn’t have been that much harder to go back and get pebbles, like several others had, but she was still glad she didn’t have to. It meant she could move on to the next step that much quicker, after all. Shifting her attention to the bucket of soil, she transferred it to the pot until it was full, then poked her finger into the center and wiggled it around slightly to create a hole. She assumed that was where they’d be putting their imprinted bean, but she waited for the next step to be given, looking up as Kurumi had asked about the two existing bushes.

WHOA! This was so cool! Even though Amelia had already assumed that they'd probably be doing something like this, it was still amazing to hear it from Professor Bentley.
She looked down into the pot that she had on her desk and saw that it had four holes in it. So she wouldn't need to get any pebbles to fill the bottom with. Instead, she started filling the pot with soil while making sure that no mess was made.
When that was done, a little hole was placed in the center.
