--
Gemma shook her head excitedly up and down, "Yes you are correct. The B stands for the bread plate which is the little plate to the left of your plate..." she flicked her wand at the plate on the left side levitated for a few seconds and then placed back down softly. "And the D stands for drink because your drinking glasses can always be found at the top right of your plate..." she flicked her wand at the two clear stemmed glasses levitated as well...but they stayed up a little bit longer. "I almost forgot to get you all drinks..." she flicked her wand just a little bit and a pitcher full of tea and a pitcher full of water started working its way around the room filling up the glasses. "Tonite you'll be getting two different drinks. You'll get water and then you'll get tea. Feel free to add sugar to your tea if you prefer..." she said waiting for the glasses to become filled. "O and you can have drinks whenever you want...the only real etiquette with the drinks is that you don't gulp them down and you don't have to point your pinky out as you drink..." she said with a little giggle.

Once all of the glasses were filled, a picture showed on all of the screens.

The professor went over each item on the diagram holding up each one from her table and as she held hers up the matching items levitated shortly off of each round table. So when she held up the salad fork, all of the salad forks in the room levitated slightly off the table.

Then she continued, "Tonite we are going to have a seven course meal." she smiled as she said it knowing that her stomach was rumbling. "Can anyone name ONE of the seven courses of a meal?" she asked as she flicked her wand to clear the screens hanging from the roof. "And don't forget to raise your hand before answering please."

Selena wondered if the professor would mind if she kicked off her shoes. They were pinching her toes and all and it was not comfortable. She also tried not to fidget in her dress. Selena could practically feel her mother glaring at her for not sitting stiff as a board right now. And sadly, her answer had been incorrect. bread and drinks. If they could see it, they didn't have to know what it stood for, right? Unless the bread didn't look like bread or the drinks didn't look like a drink. "Is salad one of the courses?" Selena asked, raising her hand. It was also the course she didn't like with all the green leafy things that were RAW and uncooked.

The obvious one was dessert which EVERYONE had to love.

Enigma 01-14-2012 06:17 PM

Seven course meal? Merlins! Ira thought her stomach would burst! Yes, she was hungry, but so much.. Anyways, it was a good chance to taste different types of food.

She raised her hand up and answered, "Professor, hors d'oeuvre or commonly called appetizer is the first course.."

A seven course meal? Wasn't that a bit too... much?

Anyway. "Dessert is one of them. The best, in my opinion," Nora said with a hand in the air, grinning. Aaaand if the dessert had any cherries, it couldn't possibly get any better, could it? Yup, chocolate and cherries; definitely Nora's Heaven.

Gwendolyn raised her hand, ready to say dessert, but, noticing that many other students already said that, she tried thinking of something else. 'Salad... I think it is the third one', the Ravenclaw said. Perhaps I got this right..., the girl thought and really hoped she didn't screw this up too. Even though it was easy, she knew she could find a way to do something stupid.

HOPEendures 01-14-2012 06:30 PM

"One would be the salad," Jezzabelle said raising her hand. The Professor did say to name one. She could have rambled off a few others, her favorite being the desert. She watched as her cups were filled and she added just a little sugar to her tea and took a small little sip. Sigh. Tea will have to do. She had a preference for Pumpkin Juice but, oh well.

Lady of the Lake 01-14-2012 06:35 PM

The room was fabulous, and the girl actually enjoyed wearing her beautiful black Muggle dress. She had been so worried about her attire, as a person who had grown up in the wizarding world, but after asking her friends, she could rest assured that her dress was indeed appropriate. The Gryffindor almost forgot this was a classroom, until she heard the next question.

Raising her hand, Ariadne replied:'Soup is definitely one of the courses.' She knew that because she hated most soups, except her Gran's tomato soup.

Orla 01-14-2012 06:44 PM

Oooh she got it right... suprising.. Her hand went up AGAIN ''Well there is the starter,'' hm how come no one said that the starter was soup right?

Gideon had been tempted to wander around for a bit to look over things however when Professor Cerulean was announced and she spoke for them to take their seats, the fifth year made his way over to one of the Gryffindor tables. Taking a seat, he continued to listen to what was being said, doing the hand motions as directed.

Certainly seemed odd but whatever.

As for the question for what they stood for, there was only one thing he could think of but seeing as a few people had already answered he had simply stayed quiet. And then they moved on as the professor set the charms for water and tea to be served to them all, the pictures of the proper setting appearing before them when it was all done. It was all interesting to see and hear about not to mention that fact that they were to be enjoying a full dinner event with all the trimmings.

Selina would certainly like that, he mused glancing over at his girlfriend.

At the question on the courses, Gideon finally raised his hand to answer or at least post a guess. "Well theres certainly the main course or entree," he answered lowering his hand back to his lap.

pundantic 01-14-2012 07:03 PM

A seven course meal? Was she serious? Selina was thankful that she had only eaten pancakes, ham, sausage, toast and a pastry today. If she had eaten lunch today that would have been disasterous. There would have been no way she would have been able to eat the entire meal. Maybe she would have gotten half way through, but a seven course meal was not something to scoff at. She was glad that she had eaten lite today.

Her eyes glanced down the table to smirk at her boyfriend. This was too brilliant. But she shifted her eyes back to her Professor and answered her question, "Well ma'am... Is one the appitizer?"

DanialRadFAN01 01-14-2012 07:31 PM

Auggie was sort of enjoying himself. Dinners at his home were never this fancy but his mother did like manners and had tried to teach him the best she knew ever since he was little. The Gryffindor sat there in his suit and straightened his tie, the pink one that his mother insisted he bring with him.

Hmmm...so dinner courses. "Professor Cerulean, what about the best one, Dessert?" he said eagerly. Auggie would be so happy if they got some nice brownies, or ice cream after this.

The professor smiled at the girl's answer..."Good thinking, but just wait for the answer..."

But remember she doesn't handle rudeness towards Muggle ways very well, so you might want to keep those prejudices to yourself unless you want face the consequences!

As soon as the drinks were magically poured into the glasses, Vlimia wanted to gulp down her water... but no. That was impolite. So she picked up the glass and sipped it politely. The only problem with polite sipping was that you don't get too much water at once. This is a real issue when you are absolutely parched. After quite a while, Vlim was done and she put her glass back.
Vlimia smiled. A seven-course meal! Lucky she hadn't given in to that box of Cauldron Cakes! Vlim knew all the courses: the First Course was the Appetizer, the Second Course was Soup, the Third Course was Salad, Fourth Course: Sorbet to cleanse the palate, Fifth course: Meat, such as poultry, Sixth Course: Meat, red meat or fish, and the Seventh Course was, of course (no pun intended), Dessert.
What was the most interesting course? Probably the fourth.
She rose her hand eagerly, glad to know something about Muggles. "One of the courses is usually a sorbet to cleanse the palate." Vlim said more confidently than before, once she was picked by the proffesor.

elllla_Wtwins 01-14-2012 08:04 PM

Thea smoothed out her sparkly dress, and raised a hand. 'One of the courses consists of a soup..' Thea said carefully. She really wasn't sure. The Gryffindor had only heard of three course meals, not seven!!

Glancing donw at the table, she picked up her glass. Stroking her throat slightly, she coughed. Thea really wanted to take a big gulp, but didn't dare incase she spilt it. So instead, she took a very lady like sip and quickly placed it back down on the table.

Now Thea glanced around the room at her fellow classmates. It had to be said, they all looked pretty good.

Eva still had no idea about what was going besides she got the last question right to her amazment. Hearing the question she thought her mind was blank as she didn't know much about muggles. Though her sister once worked in a high class restauraunt in the Muggle World and came back telling Eva loads of information about the subject. "Professor do you mean the best one? A seven course meal? That's a lot of food, no? Eino would barely eat one meal and then dessert most of the time, let alone seven different things. Eino would have never known that muggles eat so much because they aren't that fat compared to wizards. Slightly worried that he might fail class by not being able to eat as much as muggles do, Eino looked around to see how everyone had reacted to this news. After scratching his nose and rubbing his eye, Eino put his hand up in the air. "One of the courses is the main dish, I believe." This was generally when one ate the most food, though he wouldn't be surprised if muggles just ate a bunch of little dishes and that was why they could go through seven of them. Silly muggles.

Laura raised her hand and smiled at the Professor. "You have the Ice-cream course Professor." Seriously everyone should know about that course if they didn't then well it was their loss.

Bazinga 01-14-2012 08:24 PM

Minerva listened to the professor again and raised her hand. "Professor the third course is the salad" she couldn't take her eyes off of the room and how pretty it was. All the students looked so nice as well.

PhoenixWizard 01-14-2012 08:39 PM

Angelina widen her eyes, seven!! She could only take maybe two! Why do many? This thought of about five but not two more. Raising her hand she said, "There is the fourth course meal, sorbet. And this is to cleanse the palate." she didn't want to say the most common ones everyone said like the soup, salads, appetizers, dessert, etc.

Alyssa took a sip from the glass of water and when tea was served, added some suger in it before she thought of the answer to the question, the Professor had asked. She was going to name all, when she remembered that the Professor had only asked for one. Salad, Dessert, Soup, Appetizers, palate cleansershad been mentioned, so that was left with,"Professor, usually in a seven course meal, they tend to serve 2 kinds of main dishes. One is either a meat or fish dish and the other is solely a meat such as a poultry dish. I'm not sure whether they are considered as one course or two separate courses."

Even though others had already answered the question, she still raised her hand to give hers. "Professor, the b stands for our bread plate which should always be placed on our left hand side and the d stand for our drink glass that should always be on our right. So if the table arrangement is very close together, we need to remember that we shouldn't reach over to the right to take the bread from that plate because that bread belongs to the person on our right and if we wanted to make sure that we didn't end up drinking someone else water, we should always reach for the glass on our right and not the one on our left."

Alyssa smiled when she heard a familiar voice next to her. It was Oakey. She hadn't even realized that he had slipped right next to her. She looked over to see who he had brought with him. She had asked him whether he could be her date but that was before detention and so she wouldn't have been surprised if he had come with someone else instead. He definitely looked dashing in his suit and bow tie. With one more glance at Oakey, Alyssa then turned back to hear what the other students had to offer in terms of answers.

Sammy sat at one of the Hufflepuff tables trying to get her shoes off. They were super uncomfortable. Why was she even wearing them? Actually, how had she made it here in them? That was the real question. Maybe it was because she was excited about food, that was probably it. Then the door had distracted her BECAUSE IT FREAKING TALKED, and then her feet started hurting. Yeah. The door had told her she had bad posture, she thought it was quite rude considering it was a door but she wanted food. That was the main reason she was here, for food. And now they had to answer questions ABOUT food? Why? She wanted food. To eat. Seven courses of dinner? So... garlic bread, pasta, pasta, pasta, pasta, pasta, ice cream yeah? No, only Sammy could eat that much pasta. She raised her hand before saying "Is there a salad course?" that seemed reasonable ... if you liked salad?

SilverDragon 01-14-2012 09:42 PM

Wow, Seven courses? This sounded more like a banquet for muggle royalty than for the average muggle. Silvia was very petite, there was no way she'd make it past the first few courses before becoming full, unless she only took a few bites of each.

She raised her hand. "Well, one of them is the main course, which is usually composed of some sort of meat and a side dish."

JustAlice 01-14-2012 09:48 PM

Aurora's hand shot up again, "Aperitifs, professor?" She wasn't actually sure if that was a name of a course or not... but worth a try, huh?

The Gryffindor almost forgot this was a classroom, until she heard the next question.

Raising her hand, Ariadne replied:'Soup is definitely one of the courses.' She knew that because she hated most soups, except her Gran's tomato soup.

Anyway. "Dessert is one of them. The best, in my opinion," Nora said with a hand in the air, grinning. Aaaand if the dessert had any cherries, it couldn't possibly get any better, could it? Yup, chocolate and cherries; definitely Nora's Heaven.

Ettiquette? Because none of them knew that, right? Presley followed instructions, but allowed everyone else to answer as she felt she had an unfair advantage, growing up in a home where this was common practice.

Name one course of a seven course meal. Presley knew very well all of the courses in order were 1. appetizer 2. soup 3. salad 4. seafood 5. main course 6. dessert 7. cheese and fruit. But she'd been asked to name one. So of course, she tried to pick the one that most other people wouldn't know. Or were least likely to know. She raised her hand. "The seventh course usually consists of cheese and fruit, to help clear the palate." she grinned, parroting her father directly. She had absorbed a little of what he'd had to say over the years.

But it was only question time now so he wouldn't have to worry about getting something on this suit of his. Even if the tie around his neck made him feel like he was being suffocated. And the question was to name a course of the seven course meal. That wasn't too bad right now.

The only problem was that his favourite course had already been said. Maybe dessert was a Hogwarts favourite or something. But seeing as his second favourite hadn't been said yet, Alec raised his hand. "Professor, i think one of them is the main course," Maybe he should get a medal for saying 'Professor' and not 'Miss'. "And it has food like vegetables and meat and fish!" That was important too! Not as important as Dessert but still up there in the importance scale.

Um. Evelyn raised her hand and said, "Dessert." She loved desserts. It was the best part of a meal.

Maybe they'd just be little things, that'd be nice. She was only little after all. Well littleish. Indy mused, thinking of what one of the courses might be. Mmm. Someone had mentioned dessert. That was yummy. Indy liked Dessert. Shame that would come last really. Now Indy had to think of one for herself. Ooh. "There's a sorbet I think....like flavoured ice I think. It's used to cleanse the palate. Which probably is a good idea, or the food might all end up staying the same."

His stomach was rumbling even at the thought of getting a SEVEN meal course dinner. This was...heaven on earth for him! Daichi's eyes widened with a twinkle in them when he heard the Professor talking. He got the whole B and D things and he giggled softly when someone mentioned Babies.

"Soup is one of the courses, right Professor?" he asked as he held a hand high in the air.

SEVEN COURSE MEAL!!!

Moving his parchment a little as he turned around to face the professor again, Lewis accidentally shoved some of the cutlery off the table. Clatter! He blushed scarlet, he quickly bent down to pick the two spoons up again. Now, where had they been?! Trying not to pay any attention to himself, he glanced at the person sitting next to him and their table setting. Right, smaller spoon on the left.

Seven courses?! He knew those. Yes, yes, he did. Or at least he thought he did. Aww, but they were only allowed to say one? "I think first come the Appetizers." Lewis said, with his hand raised high up in the air. Yup.

Cornelius didn't seem to realize that Eino was just speaking to the door because he could, assuming that the other student had understood what was going on without needing to touch the door. He flashed him a small smile and greeted him with a wave, but before much talking could be done, they were both allowed inside. And then all of the decorations became a bit of a distraction. He hadn't expected this much of a similarity to some kind of dinner party, but the Muggle Studies Professor had gone all out. Smiling as he mostly seemed to do, Cornelius strolled over to the Ravenclaw section alongside Eino and sat down in the seat beside his first Ravenclaw friend.

Glancing around at all the pieces of silverware and glasses, he immediately realized that muggle manners weren't as easy as they seemed. Well, sure, he was half muggle, but it's not like he went out to dinner parties all the time. As the professor asked them to make a b and a d with their hands, he did as he was told, holding up his two hands before him and glancing around at the things that they seemed to sit directly in front of in his line of vision.

Raising his hand, he turned to the Professor to suggest, "Butter... he started, deciding that the plate that hovered near his 'b' hand looked as though it could be a place for butter to sit. "...and drinks?" It seemed logical, his 'd' hand seemed to be near a glass?

Elise sighed in relief. No babies. Good, cause... eating babies was just wrong. WRONG! So... B was for Bread and D was for drink. M'okay! She could handle that, she was a Ravenclaw!

Seven courses? The last time she'd had a seven-course meal was at her brother's wedding. And that was... about 3-4 years ago. Before mom died. So... the seven courses. Closing her eyes, Elise recalled the food menu.

Appetizers, soup like Shark's Fin, salad, sorbet to cleanse the palate, meat like poulty, meat like red meat or fish and dessert.

Raising her hand, Elise beamed. "Professor, there's DESSERT! Like ice cream!" The best part of the whole thing.

"Professor the first course would be the appetizer. Next you would have a soup for your second course. Thirdly comes a salad which goes on your salad plate. Fourth is a sorbet, which has the purpose of cleansing the plate. The fifth course is generally either fish or poultry. There are many possibilities for the sixth course which can include, red meat, fish or poultry with vegetables. Finally the seventh course is saving the best for the last, and it is the dessert," Isabelle said as she explained the courses of a meal. She was excited to be eating all of this food, YUM!

Politely while she was waiting for other answers she took a couple spoons of sugar and stirred them into her tea using the teaspoon. She set the teaspoon back down on her saucer and took a polite sip of it. Then she giggled quietly and took another sip with her pinky finger pointed out before setting it back down on her saucer.

Gemma smiled as the students' hands shot up in the air. It was nice to see so many of them know a few of courses. And of course, they all knew the best course, dessert..."You are all correct and have covered quite a few of the courses..." she said with a flick of her wand. Instantly, a list of the seven courses appeared on the screens.

1. Appetizers
2. Soup
3. Salad
4. Sorbet to clear the palette
5. Pasta, Fish or Poultry Dish
6. Red Meat, Fish, or Poultry with Vegetables
7. DESSERT!!!!

She smiled at the students, "If you haven't already, please grab your napkin and place it in your lap. It should stay there for the remainder of our meal and should be used occasionally to wipe your mouth."

With a flick of her wand menus dropped from the ceiling and landed in their laps. "We are going to begin our seven course meal. As we go along, I'll introduce you to some different rules of etiquette when eating. Feel free to ask any questions that you think of. "

She flicked her wand in a circular motion and the appetizer flew into the room and levitated above each of the tables. "Can anyone tell me what the proper direction we should pass the tray of brushetta around the table is?"

OOC: Remember to raise your hand before you answer. .And as always remember she is always watching you! But remember she doesn't handle rudeness towards Muggle ways very well, so you might want to keep those prejudices to yourself unless you want face the consequences! Remember we haven't started eating yet....We will soon though!
