LuLu smiled at the proffesers entrance it was all over the top she loved it and the door and stuff it was cool, she formed the b and d shape with both of her hands... Dinners and fancy stuff wasn't really her thing but she had a pretty good idea what b and d was, Her hand went up into the air

"Bread and Drink, Proffeser, It's Bread on the Left and Drink on the Right,'' R-right??

AnnabethJackson 01-14-2012 11:42 AM

Leia raised her hand, she had been trying to remember what her parents friends had told her, "It's bread and drink isn't it professor? I'm not too sure where they go but I think bread goes on the left and drink goes on the right," she really hoped it was correct.

Gemma walked into the room excitedly. She was hoping that the students enjoyed the evening..the lesson...and the food...especially the food. She walked to the middle of the room so that all of the four sections were on all four sides of her. She smiled at each of the section and did a small curtsy/bow towards each section.

With a flick of her right wrist, her wand shot out of its holster. She flicked her wand and four screens dropped down from the ceiling. Each screen faced a different set of House tables. Then a little cocktail table with a tall bar stool appeared in the middle of the room with a purple napkin and plate and single vase filled with purple water and one candle.

Gemma couldn't help but beam at the students.

"Welcome to the first Muggle studies lesson of the term! Please please please have a seat if you haven't already! I hope that you already feel special with such a formal greeting...It always makes me feel like a princes..." she said motioning her hands down to signal that they sit down.

Then she continued, "I'm hoping that you enjoy this lesson from the attire to the decorations to the theme to the FOOD!" she said this statement with the most emphasis on the food.

Then she turned slightly to face another set of Houses...she didn't want one house to think she was only speaking to them. "Etiquette is defined as the rules for socially acceptable behavior. These type of rules are important in both the Muggle and Wizard World; however, many of the rules vary in each world...some are the same but there are many differences. Today we will focus on the Muggle side of these rules." she said with a slight nod up and down.

"Etiquette isn't new. It may have begun with a behavior code by Ptahhotep, in Egypt's reign of the Fifth Dynasty King DJedkare Isesi." she paused realizing that her History side was shining through and then she quickly continued.

"There are all kinds of opportunities to impress, such as dates, meeting new people, lunch with a peer that you look up to, not to mention the Holidays, plus more and more job interviews being done over a dinner table." she figured she was rambling so she got to the first point.

She motioned to the screens and the table setting appeared on the screen. "If you will take a look at your seating area and the way your plates and forks and drinks are set up..." she motioned towards her table and turned a little bit to face a different couple of tables. "I'm sure you're first question as you look at the table is figuring out which items belong to you...the settings are very close together and this can be confusing..." she flicked her wand and the water glasses, bread plates, and napkins levitated over the table.

"If everyone will hold up their hands and make a B with their left hand and a D with their right hand...." she demonstrated with her hands, "These two hand signals will help you remember which is yours...Can anyone guess what the b and the d stand for? Please raise your hand before you answer...." she said glancing between the tables.

Tayla loved how everything looked like, and yes, she also loved the food! She smoothed the skirt of her scarlet dress and listened as the professor spoke.

It wasn't Tayla's first time to see a table setting like this. But she did find it confusing. She held up her hands making a 'b' and a 'd' as instructed, then she raised one hand to answer the professor's question.

"Bread and drink, Professor. Helps us remember which side each is."

FearlessLeader19 01-14-2012 01:40 PM

Jory was admiring the settings the Professor had done for the lesson. It was like going to one of his Dad's formal dinner at his work.

He raised his hand to answer the question. "Bread and drink, Professor,'' he said sort of uncertainly. Then he formed a B with his left hand and a D with his right, just as instructed.

klexos24 01-14-2012 01:46 PM

Cardigan was wowed by the decor of the room.Simply extravagant!Sheheld up her hands and made a D and a B.It was a little confusing, though. She wasn`t sure what it really meant;how it worked. So,she just crossed her heels, smoothed her hair, and listened for the correct answer.

Bazinga 01-14-2012 02:04 PM

Minerva found an empty chair and sat down. The professors dress was so pretty and her shoes were fantastic Minnie thought. She began to speak about everything going on and Minerva raised her hand. "Professor does the D mean the drinking glass and the B mean bread."

HOPEendures 01-14-2012 02:38 PM

Oh, everyone looked so lovely. The door made one final announcement and in had walked their Professor. She had said to go ahead and sit. Jezzabelle sat down and sighed. Nope, she had to pull her chair out on her own. No guy to do that for her. as the Professor went on about dinner etiquette she payed the closest of attention. And then the first question was asked. She thought about it for a while and then raised her hand, "Does it mean before dinner and during dinner?" It kinda made sense. Maybe not complete sense.

Selina was in a foul mood. That bloody door had taken away two points to Gryffindor because she knocked on the door. It was not her fault that she did not know that the door was enchanted. They didn't even have a sign or anything and she didn't know if class was being held in session. Because it makes SO much sense to announce yourself to a door... yeah right.

But she swallowed her pride and sat at the red table with all of her friends. When the first question was asked Selina looked around the room for some kind of indication. B and D? Nope no idea. Might as well give a guess. So she rose her hand and said, "B stands for beginning because that is what you start with and D stands for Dinner because that is what we are eating?" Eh, worth a shot.

OOC: Remember to raise your hand before you answer. All conversation should end now. Please don't post your charrie coming in late. You can have crazy answers if you would like...Gemma and I love creative answers....And as always remember she is always watching you! But remember she doesn't handle rudeness towards Muggle ways very well, so you might want to keep those prejudices to yourself unless you want face the consequences!

Tearing her eyes away from the awesome decor around the room, and turned around when the door announced Professor Cerulean. She rather liked her...she was nice. and not to mention she really enjoyed that chicken dance last term. Hihi.

Then she, along with everyone else, turned back to face their table settings and and opened her hands and formed a 'b' and a 'd'. The technique seemed familiar...so oddly familiar...in fact, she could practically hear her mother instructing her as she did the same thing...

Taking a giant leap of faith, the Slytherin raised her hand to answer and said "It stands for bread and drink, right Professor? The side where the 'b' is where your bread is supposed to be and the 'd' stands for which drink is yours."

Vlimia was quite perplexed as to why there was so much on the table. All you really needed was one glass, a plate, a spoon (possibly), a fork and a knife. Not all these different sizes and stuff. She did the 'B' and 'D' thing with her hands, but she was confused as to what they meant. Vlim raised her hand anyway. "Maybe it means Bring Dinner?" She said unconfidently once chosen. "Or possibly BreaD?" Vlim said just as confusedly. She had tried...

Sierra raised her eyebrows ever-so-slightly at the Professor Cerulean's excitement. Yeah, sure. Just what she always wanted to be--a princess. Psh. Yeah, right. Sierra grew up wanting to be just what her father was--a true, Slytherin SNAKE. Who cared about tiaras and and pretty dresses when you had a wand and a drive to succeed.

Nevertheless, Sierra sat there, all dressed up in her formal attire, listening to the professor. Why was Sierra here again, in a Muggle Studies class? Oh. Right. Because her father was the new Minister of Magic, and Professor Lafay thought it'd be a wonderful idea for his daughter to know the ways of all the people. Blahh. Well, at least there was food, and at least what they were learning was important in the Wizarding World, too.

She followed along, although things were moving along kind of quickly with screens popping up everywhere. She made the B and D formations with her hands, looked them over carefully to try and figure out what they might mean, and then hesitantly raised her hand. "Maybe it's for bread and drink?" she suggested. "Does it tell you that your bread is where your hand formed the B, and your drink is where your hand formed the D?" It was the only thing that made sense to her. What else on the table could the letters stand for?

Noticing the section all blue-ey, she found her housemates and sat down.

Imitating Professor Cerulean, Elise raised her hand, a little confused. Muggle studies was never quite her strong point. That was Herbology.

"Are the Babies and Ducks?"
she asked, saying the first thing that came to mind. "We're not actually having babies for dinner, are we Professor?"

If they were, El would probably run out screaming. Not good.

Somnium 01-14-2012 04:19 PM

TAylor raidsed her hand. It was a simple question, "The b is for bread and the d is for dinner, ma'dam." She said sweetly. TAylor grew up on these manners.

Eino was curious to know how muggles ate, or what was their etiquette. He couldn't quite imagine how different it would be from wizard's etiquette. As a pureblood wizard he had always experienced the wizard custom first, but he had eaten at muggle restaurants before and never stood out. They use plates and plates, too? So far, no differences. When prompted Eino attempted to do the B and D with his hands as Professor Cerulean demonstrated, but he was having a little trouble. When she asked what the two letters stood for, Eino raised his hand. "B is for, ummm, bubbles, because sparkling drinks make bubbles and they are on this side... D is for, uh, dishes, because you put your extra dishes here." Sounded reasonable.

Gemma smiled at the boy's answer, "I like your thinking...and your words but actually the answer is opposite of yours...the b is for bread plate and the d is for drinks...."

Selena looked at her hands, confused. What did the B and D stand for? Selena's hand shot straight up into the air. "Bad Dinner." Because eating dinners in such an environment was always so confusing with all the different spoons and forks and things. It was too complicated. It was like they couldn't just settle down for one simple utensil to use throughout the whole meal. That definitely had to be what the B and D stood for.

The young professor laughed a little bit at the girl's answer, "Well, I'm sure many people think the same way you do with all of the items on the table, but trust me the meal is going to be delicious!" she said with a little nod up and down.

What here looked like it belonged to a b category... b...dinner... "Does...b mean...baked goods?" Kurumi asked after raising her hand and then she glanced back at the table. D...d...d...what could d be? Design? Delicates? As in...their napkin? That sounded a fair enough guess. "And the d is...delicates? Such as our napkin?"

Gemma was always happy to hear an answer from one of her favorite Gryffindors. "Kurumi, I like your answers...but actually the b stands for bread dish and the d stands for drinks...it helps you remember which of these is yours...but way to think outside of the box...."

Eva thought to herself. She came up with an alright answer to do with 'B and D' and put her hand up and responded to the question; "Is it Brutal Dinner?" Eva with only this time a little bit of confusion. She knew it wasn't right so she thought deeper and deeper. She came up with something that made a lot more sense this time. Still keeping her hand up she spoke for the second time and said; "Sorry I finally figured it out; B is to remember that your bread is on the left and D is to remember that your drink is on the right. It is a tip to remember which one is your so you don't get confused with the person next to you." Wow! Eva sounded a know-it-all then but she was sure she got it right.

She made the hand gestures as requested as well, although she dropped one of them as she'd raised her hand to answer the question. "Insofar as we're focusing on the specific items, the B and D refer to the bread plate and water glass. Indicating that the bread plate should always be on our left, and our glass on the right," she replied, adding a bit to what had been said by others as she glanced over at Dia again. Apparently etiquette classes happened at other places as well, or at least the other Claw had interesting reading habits.

Even though others had already answered the question, she still raised her hand to give hers. "Professor, the b stands for our bread plate which should always be placed on our left hand side and the d stand for our drink glass that should always be on our right. So if the table arrangement is very close together, we need to remember that we shouldn't reach over to the right to take the bread from that plate because that bread belongs to the person on our right and if we wanted to make sure that we didn't end up drinking someone else water, we should always reach for the glass on our right and not the one on our left."

"Bread and drink, Professor. Helps us remember which side each is."

TAylor blushed realizing that she said dinner and not drinks. She would of laugh but she thought it would be rude. She listern to the teacher asked another question but she didnt know that answer. TAylor never paid attention to that part when she had a tutor on manners since food was food despite the different names for each course.

Isabelle raised her hand. She of course knew what a seven course meal was from all of those times that she went out to eat at fancy places in the Muggle world with her sister. "Professor the first course would be the appetizer. Next you would have a soup for your second course. Thirdly comes a salad which goes on your salad plate. Fourth is a sorbet, which has the purpose of cleansing the plate. The fifth course is generally either fish or poultry. There are many possibilities for the sixth course which can include, red meat, fish or poultry with vegetables. Finally the seventh course is saving the best for the last, and it is the dessert," Isabelle said as she explained the courses of a meal. She was excited to be eating all of this food, YUM!

Politely while she was waiting for other answers she took a couple spoons of sugar and stirred them into her tea using the teaspoon. She set the teaspoon back down on her saucer and took a polite sip of it. Then she giggled quietly and took another sip with her pinky finger pointed out before setting it back down on her saucer.

Elise sighed in relief. No babies. Good, cause... eating babies was just wrong. WRONG! So... B was for Bread and D was for drink. M'okay! She could handle that, she was a Ravenclaw!

Seven courses? The last time she'd had a seven-course meal was at her brother's wedding. And that was... about 3-4 years ago. Before mom died. So... the seven courses. Closing her eyes, Elise recalled the food menu.

Appetizers, soup like Shark's Fin, salad, sorbet to cleanse the palate, meat like poulty, meat like red meat or fish and dessert.

Raising her hand, Elise beamed. "Professor, there's DESSERT! Like ice cream!" The best part of the whole thing.

Eino's curiosity peaked when he heard Cornelius introduce himself... to the door? Looking over Cornelius' shoulder, Eino was rather relieved to find that his friend spoke to inanimate objects, too. He tapped his friend lightly on the shoulder, then took a step forward and mimicked Cornelius' behavior without even attempting to open the door. "Eino Uronen, Ravenclaw House." All he had to change was the name, right?

OOC: Remember to raise your hand before you answer. All conversation should end now. Please don't post your charrie coming in late. Cornelius didn't seem to realize that Eino was just speaking to the door because he could, assuming that the other student had understood what was going on without needing to touch the door. He flashed him a small smile and greeted him with a wave, but before much talking could be done, they were both allowed inside. And then all of the decorations became a bit of a distraction. He hadn't expected this much of a similarity to some kind of dinner party, but the Muggle Studies Professor had gone all out. Smiling as he mostly seemed to do, Cornelius strolled over to the Ravenclaw section alongside Eino and sat down in the seat beside his first Ravenclaw friend.

Glancing around at all the pieces of silverware and glasses, he immediately realized that muggle manners weren't as easy as they seemed. Well, sure, he was half muggle, but it's not like he went out to dinner parties all the time. As the professor asked them to make a b and a d with their hands, he did as he was told, holding up his two hands before him and glancing around at the things that they seemed to sit directly in front of in his line of vision.

Raising his hand, he turned to the Professor to suggest, "Butter... he started, deciding that the plate that hovered near his 'b' hand looked as though it could be a place for butter to sit. "...and drinks?" It seemed logical, his 'd' hand seemed to be near a glass?

Lewis wasn't quite sure if it was considered 'proper dinner etiquette' to put a piece of parchment on the table and take notes, but he did it anyway. How else was he supposed to remember all that after all? Especially the B and D part, he had never heard before. Interesting...

Moving his parchment a little as he turned around to face the professor again, Lewis accidentally shoved some of the cutlery off the table. Clatter! He blushed scarlet, he quickly bent down to pick the two spoons up again. Now, where had they been?! Trying not to pay any attention to himself, he glanced at the person sitting next to him and their table setting. Right, smaller spoon on the left.

Seven courses?! He knew those. Yes, yes, he did. Or at least he thought he did. Aww, but they were only allowed to say one? "I think first come the Appetizers." Lewis said, with his hand raised high up in the air. Yup.

SEVEN MEALS? ...seven?....seven....O_____________o

His stomach was rumbling even at the thought of getting a SEVEN meal course dinner. This was...heaven on earth for him! Daichi's eyes widened with a twinkle in them when he heard the Professor talking. He got the whole B and D things and he giggled softly when someone mentioned Babies.

"Soup is one of the courses, right Professor?" he asked as he held a hand high in the air.

SEVEN COURSE MEAL!!!

RachieRu 01-14-2012 04:49 PM

They were gonna have seven courses? Woah. That was a lot of food! Good thing that Indiana liked food, although she wasn't too sure if she'd be able to manage a whole seven courses worth. Maybe they'd just be little things, that'd be nice. She was only little after all. Well littleish. Indy mused, thinking of what one of the courses might be. Mmm. Someone had mentioned dessert. That was yummy. Indy liked Dessert. Shame that would come last really. Now Indy had to think of one for herself. Ooh. "There's a sorbet I think....like flavoured ice I think. It's used to cleanse the palate. Which probably is a good idea, or the food might all end up staying the same."

RandomRaven 01-14-2012 04:50 PM

Seven course meal? Wow. Raven wondered how could the muggle ate all of them. She raised her hand and answered some of them.

"One of them is.. Dessert." she said.

Great. Evelyn looked a little smug when the professor said her answer was right. She just hoped that the lesson would get a little more interesting when they were asked to name one of the seven courses of a meal. Gosh.

Um. Evelyn raised her hand and said, "Dessert." She loved desserts. It was the best part of a meal.

Alec blinked. Seven course meal? They were going to have a SEVEN COURSE MEAL?! Here? In this... could this even be called a classroom? No classroom looked this fancy and dandy.

But it was only question time now so he wouldn't have to worry about getting something on this suit of his. Even if the tie around his neck made him feel like he was being suffocated. And the question was to name a course of the seven course meal. That wasn't too bad right now.

The only problem was that his favourite course had already been said. Maybe dessert was a Hogwarts favourite or something. But seeing as his second favourite hadn't been said yet, Alec raised his hand. "Professor, i think one of them is the main course," Maybe he should get a medal for saying 'Professor' and not 'Miss'. "And it has food like vegetables and meat and fish!" That was important too! Not as important as Dessert but still up there in the importance scale.

Presley would have laughed as Professor Cerulean came in talking about feeling like a princess, if it wouldn't have been rude. At home, Presley was always announced as she came in. It made her feel normal. But she supposed everybody was different.

Ettiquette? Because none of them knew that, right? Presley followed instructions, but allowed everyone else to answer as she felt she had an unfair advantage, growing up in a home where this was common practice.

SPOILER!!: professor

"And the D stands for drink because your drinking glasses can always be found at the top right of your plate..." she flicked her wand at the two clear stemmed glasses levitated as well...but they stayed up a little bit longer. "I almost forgot to get you all drinks..." she flicked her wand just a little bit and a pitcher full of tea and a pitcher full of water started working its way around the room filling up the glasses. "Tonite you'll be getting two different drinks. You'll get water and then you'll get tea. Feel free to add sugar to your tea if you prefer..." she said waiting for the glasses to become filled. "O and you can have drinks whenever you want...the only real etiquette with the drinks is that you don't gulp them down and you don't have to point your pinky out as you drink..." she said with a little giggle.

Once all of the glasses were filled, a picture showed on all of the screens.

The professor went over each item on the diagram holding up each one from her table and as she held hers up the matching items levitated shortly off of each round table. So when she held up the salad fork, all of the salad forks in the room levitated slightly off the table.

Then she continued, "Tonite we are going to have a seven course meal." she smiled as she said it knowing that her stomach was rumbling. "Can anyone name ONE of the seven courses of a meal?" she asked as she flicked her wand to clear the screens hanging from the roof. "And don't forget to raise your hand before answering please."

OOC: Remember to raise your hand before you answer. You can have crazy answers if you would like...Gemma and I love creative answers....And as always remember she is always watching you! Name one course of a seven course meal. Presley knew very well all of the courses in order were 1. appetizer 2. soup 3. salad 4. seafood 5. main course 6. dessert 7. cheese and fruit. But she'd been asked to name one. So of course, she tried to pick the one that most other people wouldn't know. Or were least likely to know. She raised her hand. "The seventh course usually consists of cheese and fruit, to help clear the palate." she grinned, parroting her father directly. She had absorbed a little of what he'd had to say over the years.
