Default Staff Table

The staff are seated at a long table stretching across a dais at the front of the room. Feel free to come up and greet them after the feast has started.

The glittering night sky is clear and visible through the enchanted ceiling, and the floating candles bedeck the entire hall in a warm golden light. All seems well with the world, aside from the empty plates still waiting for food to appear.

And what's this? The silverware is tarnished and askew, almost as if thrust on the table willy-nilly. Take a seat and search for a clean spoon while the Sorting Hat ceremony commences. The House Elves have done their clean up work quickly and effectively, and the silverware and dishes are now set to right.

Kurumi noticed Headmaster Tate looking, well, not exactly happy to be there and mumbling something about...something. She hadn't entirely caught it, but she figured now was not exactly the best time for her to try and speak with him. Granted, she really just wanted to thank him for giving her the opportunity of being a prefect, well...approving her anyway. It worked that way, right?

Huh?

"Summer?... Oh yes! A brilliant summer, very busy, but that's just the way I like it."
Though she could have done without the pep-talk from her mother, honestly, she was a grown woman and could do what she liked with her life.
"I trust you enjoyed yours?"
What student didn't enjoy their holidays?... silly question really.
"I spent a rather busy summer myself," Kurumi smiled in return. "Studied abroad for most of it actually. It was my first trip to America, and I felt absolutely overwhelmed at everything. I didn't realize that everything was so big there."

Like when she had gone to the movies and ordered a popcorn that she swore she could have climbed inside and hid in.

Charms? Kurumi's head quickly scanned the table only to have it confirmed that the Charms professor that had given her chocolate frog nightmares was indeed missing. She hadn't thought that he would be leaving, but this hopefully ensured that her nightmares would be coming to an end soon.

"Nice to meet you, Professor Schirmer," Kurumi said, slowing down slightly on the pronunciation of her last name. Had she said that right? She hoped she had. It seemed that she wasn't exactly making the best first impression here either. "I am afraid that Charms is not my best subject, but I do enjoy it." She fidgeted with the sleeve of her robe for a moment. "Professor, this might come as an odd question but...do you like chocolate frogs?"

The answer really could make or break just how uneasy she appeared during her first lesson.

It was a lot more truthful than those crystal balls, that was for sure.
Kurumi nodded. Yep, number made a lot more sense. Always constant, always nice and rounded. Unless you were writing the number 1 or 7, those always were a little stiff. 4 as well really. They all had rather harsh angles. "I wonder if perhaps numbers could help solve what happened with the silverware," Kurumi said wrinkling her nose. "Are the house elves alright?" She had a slight wibble now. She sure hoped that nothing bad had happened to Twinkle.

Worst of all...what if the kitchens were off limits?! That would mean an entire term without baking...

She was getting more odd looks now. Or was she the one giving them? Either way, the man probably thought that Kurumi was a first year by the way she was behaving.

She ought to fix this.

Slowly, Kurumi walked over to him and tried not to smile too sheepishly.

"Good evening, professor," she said slowly. "I am Kurumi Hollingberry. Gryffindor forth year."

There. No more strange stares now please!

Beth was terrified. These were just the nerves that came with a new job, right? Yes. Yes, that was what they were. She made her way into the Great Hall, hoping that she wasn't going to have to walk through all the students to get to the Staff Table. The Great Hall hadn't changed at all since her days at Hogwarts. The students seemed more cheerful and... lively, but that could also just be a change of perspective.

As she got to the staff table, she saw that there were already a good number of professors were already seated: including Headmaster Tate.

Oops.

Perhaps she should have left the Hospital Wing earlier ...

The tiny Healer offered the Headmaster a small smile as she made her way to her seat. The staff did still sit in subject order, didn't they? Well... it seemed so. She sat down inbetween the Groundskeeper and the Herbology professors, and the first thing she went to do is pick up her goblet to fill it with some pumpkin juice.

Oh. Eww... This is filthy.

Had Hogwarts given up on the House Elves? With a slight look of disgust on her face, the Healer put the cup back down. She'd rather go without the drink....

Tate eyed the students with distraction before turning back to the table. "I thought about demanding a retraction after the tripe they published, but they don't seem particularly concerned with the truth. Let's pretend the whole thing doesn't exist."
Seren wasn't surprised at Tates reaction. Of course he wouldn't be pleased. Those flobberworms at the Prophet were out of line! and the high staff turn over rate had nothing to do with him nor the students nor Hogwarts itself... it's just the way it had always been. Though of course, she couldn't imagine herself leaving any time soon. Not unless something drastic happened to change her mind.

She didn't comment, rather she just smiled, hoping some of her good mood would be infectious enough to make its way down the table.

Seren couldn't help but feel slightly jealous of the Gryffindor Prefect, then again two weeks in Australia wasn't all that bad.
"America! how exciting, I'm sure you learned a lot on you trip. There's nothing quite like observing another culture... it always manages to open your eyes to one thing or another."

Blah! she was being so rude. Seren shook her head lightly.
"So sorry, I'm Seren Bentley, Herbology Professor," she said introducing herself with a bright smile.

Isabelle was a little late it seemed. She'd got caught up in saying goodbye to Alastair and Scarlet, meaning she'd left home later than intended. But she was here now, all her things settled into her office, and her robes neatly in place. Which is more than could be said for the dinner service on the staff table. Narrowing her eyes, Issy scanned the plate that had been placed in her spot. It was dirty, and - dirty.

Shaking her head at what must have been just some stray dirt the house elves hadn't noticed, she took out her wand and cleaned it herself, before sitting in her seat. Leaning forward she glanced down the table to all the other people sat at it - noticing the seat next to her was currently empty. "Good evening everyone! Nice to be back, isn't it?" Some she knew, others not. But from her place at the end of the table, now wasn't really a good time to socialise.

She did notice Kurumi though, down the other end. Giving the girl a broad smile and small wave, Issy went back to looking at the table layout. She hadn't yet seen the gleaming badge the Gryffindor was wearing.

Picking up the goblet in front of her, Issy was just about to take a sip when she saw something. "Why is there dirty, black stuff floating in my pumpkin juice?" She asked no one inpaticular.

Kurumi was just about to ask Professor Bentley more about her summer when she noticed someone waving at her out of the corner of her eye. Turning her head slightly to the side, her jaw dropped and she stared with disbelief at the woman sitting at the end of the table.

"Will, you excuse me, Professor," she said a little hurriedly, bowing once more before walking towards the opposite end of the table.

"Professor Magnus! It is fantastic to see you again," the forth year beamed.

Gemma glanced up and down the table taking in the new faces. She hadn't quite decided if she liked her new position farther down the table....even if it was only two seats down from her older seat...she wasn't sure if this meant that her position was less important or not...she quickly pushed those thoughts to the back of her mind as the Headmaster mentioned that article her mother had contacted her about....she shook her head at his words. Honestly she thought he would've wrote an counter-article or something to defend them but she wasn't about to say anything...she didn't want to start the year off with her foot in her mouth again like she did last year.

She reached for a cup of tea sitting in front of her and as she sipped she watched the children scurrying around....yes they were very much like ants...she thought with a smile on her face.

But alas, Seren wasn't the type to be in a mood for too long. "Dash... that's an interesting nickname," she remarked. "I'd tell you mine, only I don't have one. If you ever think of anything feel free to share."
Oh so he had taken Gemma's position? She glanced down the table, she hadn't heard any rumours of her leaving, but who knew, the Prophet had made a big enough deal about all the new staff members coming through.
"The pleasures all mine." Seren made a note of Dash's firm shake... such a manly thing to do.

She cast a glance over at the house tables, paying particular attention to the Slytherin table. Hecate seemed to be in a cheerful mood. Hehe.
"So Dash... what sort of History are you interested in?" she asked conversationally, seeing as there was no food, and not to mention everything was dirty or just... misplaced.
Everett hesitated, wondering if he should explain the story behind the nickname to Seren. There was no harm in it. Of course it would seem pretty...random. "Yes, yes it is. It is the kind of nickname that one gets when they grow up with three older sisters that seem to constantly want to play dress up." He had learned at a very young age to run away. And fast. He was sure the simple nickname also had something to do with his middle name.

Everett chuckled. "Well I guess I can try to help you come up with one." Seren and plants, herbology? Something to do with that maybe. "It shouldn't be too hard."

He blinked. History? What sort. Huh. "Really all of it. Magical, Muggle. The past is just interesting." The people and the items and the events. All of that. "I must let you know from now though. I have absolutely no memory what so ever in anything that his to do with Herbology. I was actually quite horrible at that class." He smirked. It was an important thing for the Herbology Professor to know!

There was another Professor who had given him a brief smile. Everett only stared at her for a few seconds and then blinked before turning away. He was sure that he had seen her before. But he just couldn't figure out from where. No matter. He would ask her later.

Did students go up to the Professors back when he was at Hogwarts? They might have. Everett wasn't sure. But he was definitely not one of the ones who did. "Good evening Miss Hollingberry." He gave her a slight nod. Now why was she here? Did she want to know his name? Did she just want to say hi? "Everett Scabior. I teach History of Magic." Another slight nod.

More and more Professors were coming in. Filling up the empty seats and giving Everett a good look at his co-workers. He made a mental note to at least try to greet a few of them. "The house elves seem to have decided that cleaning is no longer needed." He said lightly to the female who had just sat down.

Eddie shot Althea a quick smile in repliance before he eyed his chalice again. "Does the house elves dislike working here?" It was down right confusing why the cutlery on the whole staff dias looked like it hadn't be cleaned in the last month or two. Taking a napkin he carefully removed what looked like some food residues on his knife and fork. Eddie started to question where he had ended up.

Spotting the ever lovely Gryffindor resident cookie baker, Seren couldn't help but clap her hands in excitement. She loved cookies.
"Miss Hollingberry, congratulations on your new position," she said with a wink. She couldn't think of anyone better to fill the position of Gryffindor Prefect, she was a worthy student indeed.
Hearing his name Edvard looked up as Seren joined the table. Shooting her a quick welcoming smile he greeted "Evening, Seren! Did you get the plants my sister sent you for inspection?" His sisters had never passed up an opportunity to use the help of people that their brother worked with.

Eyeing the dark haired girl with a shiny prefect badge on her chest Edvard said "Hi! I see you've been made prefect, Congrats! I was once a prefect at my old school too." He drifted off to reminisce about his old school days.

"Well, that's odd. It wasn't like this at the end of last year." Someone must have been slacking over the summer. "So you must be the new Astronomy Professor..." Fina stated though, more than asked. He was probably the vampire fan too. He seemed quiet enough.
Turning his attention to the brunette as she spoke Edvard held out his hand "Yes I am the new astronomy professor, Edvard Roslund. And you are?" There was probably a system as to in what order they were sitting but he didn't want to guess the womans occupation. If he guessed wrong it would only lead to awkwardness.

"Are you a returning staffer?" he asked curiously. Unlike him who was completley new? If so then Edvard would take care to become good friends with her. It was better to be freinds with your colleagues than enemies.

"Bonsoir," she said, almost without thinking, then flushed a little as she made herself switch back to English. You're not at Beauxbatons, she reminded herself again. "Sorry. I just wanted to come up and introduce myself, and say I'm looking forward to all your classes this term," she continued, after her little inner reprimand, then flushed again. "I'm Stella Gardiner." Yeah, that was definitely not the introduction you wanted, in front of your new professors. Hopefully things would get better soon.
Bonsoir?

French? Edvard let his gaze drift until it landed on the brown haired girl who the voice belonged to. Shooting her a warm smile he said "Pleased to meet you Miss Gardiner. I'm Professor Roslund and will be teaching Astronomy." At midnight! But he didn't say that out loud. It didn't feel so nerv-racking now that he knew that he wasn't the only person who had just started his time here at Hogwarts.

As a blacksmith? Did she LOOK like a blacksmith? She eyed her perfect nails and then with a frustrated exhalation of air that set a lock of her hair puffing out in front of her face, she busied her hands with rearranging the cutlery again.

"And what was that, Gaellen?" She gestured with her chin to where his glass had been before. Some grey stuff.
Hearing Althea's raised voice Eddie shot a look in her direction. What was she working herself up over? Had there come a new prophet issue about the new Hogwarts staff? Had he too been mentioned in it? Scratching his head absent-mindedly he asked nobody in particular "Does anyone have a copy of the article that Professor Schrimer is talking about?" The charms professor was clearly working herself up into a state. To stop it they needed an issue of the latest prophet to put it all to rest. Hopefully somebody would supply one soon.

The healer nodded at the woman's statement, looking up as she answered the question before she could even answer them. "Oh, they're not? Well, that's good..." Hopefully they'd be clean tomorrow morning, though. No one wanted breakfast on dirty plates... No one wanted tea on dirty plates either, for that matter. Beth made a mental note to clean her crockery before the food arrived.

Beth smiled at the professor's introduction. Seren Bentley. I need to remember that name. "It's okay. Elizabeth Brookes. I'm the healer... and nervous." She nodded slightly, and eyed all of the students. There were so many of them... Loads more than from her own Hogwarts days. But then again... Beth hid from most of them... "I take it you're a returning professor, then?" The air of confidence about her and all... There's no way she could be new.

"Oh hello dear," she replied, smiling brightly at the - first year?

"Thank you Harlow, I appreciate the gesture."
She took the box gently- she wouldn't want to crush it in a moment of excitement. Seren was beginning to get used to accepting gifts from students, admittedly she wasn't comfortable with it this time last year, but a lot had changed since then.

After untying the pretty silver ribbon and removing the lid of the white box she couldn't help but beam brightly at the lovely little moonlace inside.
"Oh Harlow, it's beautiful! thank you," she replied, "I take it you have an interest in Herbology?" she enquired.
She nodded, "Hullo Professor." she smiled. This professor was nice and that was a good thing. She planned on spending a lot of time in the gardens and she wanted a nice Herbology professor. "My mom says you always arrive with a gift." she explained proudly. She only wished she had thought of something for all the professors, but she had only been thinking about herbology.

Harlow bounced and clapped happily a few times. She liked the plant. "Yes ma'am, I have a garden at home. My dad helped me plant it and taught me all sorts of things to take care of it." She leaned up and placed a hand to her mouth, "Even a special fertilizer." she whispered. "Gardening is my favorite thing next to writing." her eyes took on a misty look.

Another student? And thus the term was officially in full swing.

Had this one just murmured a hello in French though? Strange. "Ciao," Fina said automatically. If they were going with native languages and all, may as well. Stella. Committing the name to memory, she nodded. "Nice to meet you as well, Stella. I'm Professor Hadley, the Arithmancy professor." This was the time of year when she felt repetition was expected.

Tate eyed the students with distraction before turning back to the table. "I thought about demanding a retraction after the tripe they published, but they don't seem particularly concerned with the truth. Let's pretend the whole thing doesn't exist."
Hearing Althea speak out again, Fina turned back toward her. She was about to offer her the paper, which she had tucked away in her handbag on the floor, when the Headmaster made his presence known . . .

Apparently she and Tate were the only ones who read the prophet? "Just some rubbish the Prophet prints. Apparently nothing to worry about." Making a mental note to burn the paper later, she changed the topic back to the tarnished dishes and summer. Summer was always a safe topic, right?

"Tate," she acknowledged with a nod. "Did you enjoy most of your time off?" Except the garbage news.

She had a slight wibble now. She sure hoped that nothing bad had happened to Twinkle.

Worst of all...what if the kitchens were off limits?! That would mean an entire term without baking...
Numbers solving what happened with the silverware? That was an interesting concept. "Perhaps. It seems, then, that I have some research to do." Great. Thanks, Kurumi! "I think so.... But I can't really be sure. Perhaps something else in the numbers..." She hadn't read into anything lately though.

"I wouldn't worry too much though." At least not yet. Surely a visit to the kitchens would get things sorted out, right?

As another body took their place at the staff table, Josephina turned her head in surprise. She knew her, for certain! Unlike the male sitting near Seren who looked only vaguely familiar. The brunette woman to sit on the other side of Seren, she KNEW.

She remembered her when the girl was sorted into her house when she was just a mere second year.

"Bethy!" Fina exclaimed. "I didn't know you were coming to work at Hogwarts!" Well of course not. How could she have when she lost contact with mostly everyone upon her own graduation? And so much for not shouting down the staff table.

And there was another familiar face; not one from her school days, but rather from when she worked with her two years. Isabelle Magnus had returned and she looked .... splendid, actually. Something was different about her, though Hadley wasn't sure what.

Brief smile and another mental note of someone she would have to visit with soon.

"Are you a returning staffer?" he asked curiously. Unlike him who was completley new? If so then Edvard would take care to become good friends with her. It was better to be freinds with your colleagues than enemies.

Oh good; she hadn't made a complete fool of herself and he had sat in Risu's former seat for a reason not just because of familiarity with Althea. "Nice to meet you, Edvard," Fina said. "Josephina Hadley, Arithmancy Professor."

Was she a returning staffer? Did she look that new or something? Or perhaps it was just because her whole side of the table was basically new? "I am indeed returning. This will be my ... fifth year teaching at Hogwarts." And actually the longest she stayed at any of her previous jobs.

Oh... What had she started with the Prophet Article talk? "I have the article, but ..." she eyed the Headmaster carefully. "We're supposed to pretend it doesn't exist or something." So yea. Just forget about it for now and perhaps later, out of prying eyes . . .

"Yes. Yes it seems so. They're not usually this bad, though. I hope there's nothing wrong." Isabelle stared down at her tainted drink, not looking up to find the source of the reply until she was speaking herself. Glancing down the table she spotted who she assumed was the man that had spoken to her. Giving him a smile, she nodded too. "I'm sorry, didn't introduce myself. Isabelle Magnus, Transfiguration." She would have offered a hand, but he was too far away.

A huge grin broke out across her face, just as her eyes travelled down the Gryffindor's robes. There was a badge. A gleaming red Prefect badge pinned to the girl. "You've been made Prefect! Isabelle was tempted to jump down from the dais and give the fourth year a hug, but figured Tate might not think it professional. Instead she clapped her hands together and just grinned like a mad lady.

"Pleasure to meet you Miss Gardiner, my names Professor Bentley, I'll be your Herbology professor. I trust you'll enjoy your time here at Hogwarts."
Provided the girl took herbology of course.
Stella had almost started fidgeting in her emabrassment over slipping and greeting the professors in French. She was so not French, even though she liked the language and all. Well, and spent the last ten plus years in the country. She just wanted to fit in at Hogwarts right away, not be the odd transfer student. But then, at least she already knew she wasn't the only transfer from Beauxbatons, and thinking about her conversation with Paulie on the train helped her relax a little. Maybe nobody had noticed her slip-up.

But then one of the professors had responded to her, and she turned with a slight nod. "Yes. Although my sister graduated from Hogwarts a couple of years ago," she replied, before smiling as she got the professor's name. "It's nice to meet you as well, Professor Bentley, and I hope so." herbology wasn't a strong suit, but she had nothing against the subject. Gardening was nice, and maybe it would remind her of home. In a weird way. Plus, she wasn't about to think about not taking any of the classes here without knowing what they were like.

It didn't feel so nerv-racking now that he knew that he wasn't the only person who had just started his time here at Hogwarts.
Then she felt another gaze upon her, and she turned from Professor Bentley to see a male professor near the other end of the table givng her a smile, and she responded likewise. Especially as he hadn't gone straight for mentioning her strange greeting. "Pleased to meet you as well, Professor Roslund," she replied, before realy registering the subject he'd said he was responsible for. Then it sunk in, and a curious expression crossed her face. "I'm sure Astronomy will be an interesting class," she said then. Most people thought she should be really knowledgable in the subject, given certain things, plus the origin of her kitten's name. She kind of hoped he wouldn't pick up on who she was related to, though. That always just made things weird, and was why she'd thought about dropping the subject back in France.

Now she was curious what other languages people at Hogwarts knew, though, which was dangerous. Curiosity and all... but the woman had continued, and she gave the newly introduced professor a nod. "Nice to meet you Professor Hadley." At least now she knew some of the professors' names before classes started. Although she'd also noticed the headmaster hadn't exactly seemed to be too welcoming, at least to her and the other girl who had walked over to speak with the staff. Maybe it was just because of all the rumors, the dirty dishes and all that. She hoped that was the case.

History of Magic?

Now Kurumi was really confused. Wasn't Professor can't ever get my name right Cerulean the History of Magic professor? Here gaze scanned the table and saw that the woman was still present. Kurumi's eyes widened, almost as if she had seen a ghost. Had the theory floating around due to the Aparecium been right? Did the woman really have it in for Professor Zookara? Kurumi wasn't sure WHAT subject she was teaching now...but Kurumi would be keeping an eye on her.

Suspicious suspicious...

Oh, right, she was being rude.

"Pleasure to make your acquaintance, Professor Scabior," she said with another bow. "I am sorry for taking up so much of your time. Welcome to Hogwarts and please enjoy the rest of the feast."

She MIGHT be back later to pick his brain. Maybe.

Kurumi's head spun around when she heard someone congratulate her.

Blink blink.

She recognized the man from the train, although she had only seen him in passing because she had been running all over the place trying to make sure that the first years were comfortable, but she HAD seen him.

"T-T-Thank you, sir," she said with a slight bow. She could ask him if he was new, but that much had been obvious already. "My name is Kurumi Hollingberry. I'm a forth year in Gryffindor house."

Perhaps Kurumi would try her hand at using numbers in the situation as well. Just ignore that she didn't know which numbers she should look at or whose. Maybe she could find Twinkle if she went to the kitchens right after the feast? She could probably pass the first years off to Jai for a little with the excuse that she needed to get some things from the kitchen for their welcoming party.

Her attention was back at Professor Hadley for now. "I think I will take a trip to the kitchens after the feast, just in case," she said with a slight nod. "The house elves have always been very kind to me, allowing me to bake cookies in their kitchen." That, and she had a little gift for Twinkle she had bought in New York.

Kurumi nearly tumbled over backwards at the Transfiguration Professor's reaction. She was back to teach the subject, right? No chainsaws or anything this term? Pretty please?

Kurumi DID notice that there were two empty seats at the table, but she was holding out that Mr. Chainsaw and Mr. Viking were not coming back. Shaw hadn't been terrible, class had been insightful and useful...but the man frightened her to little cookie pieces. Then there was Mr. Viking, who she couldn't understand. It had caused her and Sierra to misunderstand an assignment they had been given in class. But, at least that had gotten in some extra practice, right?

Kurumi's cheeks were now the color of two ripe apples. "Thank you," she whispered. The applause really wasn't necessary, but Kurumi appreciated the gesture nonetheless. "I missed you last term, professor." The woman really didn't know the weight behind that statement. "Have you come back to teach...Transfiguration?"

Please say yes please say yes...

Kimber HAD BEEN in a good mood. 'Had been' meaning past tense. Now she was annoyed. First of all, she was late, which was becoming an irritating habit it seemed. But mostly, she was hungry. Having skipped lunch to unpack probably wasn't the best idea.

It didn't help matters any when she glanced up at the staff table and saw MORE new faces.

Sighing wearily, she climbed the steps of the dias and took her regular seat. "Good evening, everyone," she murmured. At least there'd be food.

Or not...

She looked down at her plate with look of utter disgust. 'Just great,' she thought to herself as she pushed it away. 'REALLY?!'

Kurumi heard the soft, but slightly agitated, voice of a woman and her head turned to follow. Her eyes lit up and her stomach tied in knots when she saw that it was her Head of House finally making her appearance at the table. Kurumi and her hadn't spoken much, so she was surprised when she had received a letter with her signature at the bottom. That letter was currently framed and hanging on the wall in her home. All the handy work of her father.

"G-Good evening, Madam Donovan," Kurumi said with a nervous bow. "I-I just wanted to thank you for giving me the opportunity to...help my house." While there were still crayon cookies on the table, Kurumi had a special cookie ready for Head of House.

Reaching into her pocket, Kurumi pulled out an individually wrapped Gryffindor cookie and handed it to her.

"And what was that, Gaellen?" She gestured with her chin to where his glass had been before. Some grey stuff.
"A badly written one, actually, accusing me of mismanagement and suggesting the new staff was less qualified than I was saying. They got a number of details wrong, including the backgrounds of the new staff members." Tate leaned forward to peer at his new Charms professor.

She was a bossy one, but generally amusing in the way that Cari and her sisters were amusing. He did appreciate a woman that knew her own mind. "And it was mead, Professor. My father brews it himself, using local honey and hops, hint of cinnamon, sometimes fruits from an abundant harvest. It's a hobby of his, but I have to say I'm developing a taste for it. If the entire bottle isn't ruined, you're welcome to a glass," Tate stressed her title even as she called him informally. He would just summon the entire bottle from the kitchen where it was stored and see if the problem was how it was stored and sealed or in how it was served.

Taking a napkin he carefully removed what looked like some food residues on his knife and fork. Eddie started to question where he had ended up.
"No. No, no." Tate held up his hand to halt any speculation. They wouldn't be pinning blame on the house elves, who were well treated and content. He made every effort to take care of them, and they did a fantastic job considering the size of the castle and how messy the students were. It was a heckuva job to pick up after a castle full of teenagers.

"They might be ill or having an issue, but I will not have them slandered. They care about their work and would be horrified to know we're speaking ill of them. Perhaps one of you will run down and check on them. See how dinner is coming and maybe... see if one is available to clean the silverware?"

AHA! So Gemma hadn't left the school... she changed subject areas instead. Hhhmm that sounded fun. Either way it was good to see she had decided to stay.

Smiling, she leaned across the table, a little closer to Dash, no doubt invading his personal space, she couldn't help it. She loved socialising, and she needed to get a little closer to the woman who used to sit beside her.
"Gemma, new position I see," she said sending her a wink.

Laughing lightly as Dash uncovered the history behind his nickname, Seren couldn't help but remember her childhood one. Though it was hardly appropriate anymore. Even if Dash seemed confident in the fact it wouldn't be difficult to think of something... it was. She had grone through Hogwarts and even since then had never been graced with a new name.
"It's harder than you think," she said raising an eyebrow mysteriously, though really there was nothing mysterious about her at all. "When I was younger my family called me Starflower, but I fear I have out grown that one."

"History is such a wonderful subject, I love it dearly, but often I just don't have the patience to stay seated and immerse myself in it. I like to keep busy." Though she loved all that Medieval history, and even Post-Modern muggle history, what with all their wars on terror... almost sounded as if they were taking on a bunch of boggarts!
Seren couldn't help but smirk a little, well as much of a smirk as she could muster- even if it still resembled a smile to most people.
"I'll keep that in mind, though if you ever want some pointers, you know where to find me."

Hearing Edvard responding to her greeting, she quickly hurried back to his end of the table. No point yelling over everyone right? Her eyes lit up brightly, yes, yes she had recieved them, and they were terrific! marvelous! incredible!... though she still hadn't had enough time to inspect them properly.
"Yes I did, they arrived day before yesterday... I've actually been meaning to talk to you about them. Perhaps meet in the staffroom later?" she asked. And she could find out how he was settling in as well. He seemed to be fitting in quite well so far, this was good to see.

"No... I don't know what the house elves think they're doing... is this some sort of joke?".... because if it was, it most certainly wasn't funny, and it was a little disheartening. "But I'm sure things will return to normal soon enough.
Dirty cuttlery and silverware would not go down too well with her, coming up for breakfast and dinner were often the only reasons for her to set foot in the castle, and even if she loved her office and little cottage, she liked to be among people... not away from them.

Elizabeth Brookes... that name certainly sounded familiar. "It's a pleasure to meet you," she replied. Following Elizabeth's gaze out to the sea of students she could see how the Nurse would be nervous.
"They're a friendly bunch, and you'll fit right in ... though be prepared to be busy. They're a generally clumsy lot, and Quidditch is usually brutal." For some reason the kids seemed to have a No Mercy policy when it came to quidditch. Then again, it was a little like that back in her day as well.

Well wasn't that just darling! Merlin, perhaps having children wouldn't be so bad after all, especially if they were as adorable as this little snake! Such a lovely, friendly and well mannered girl, her mother must be so proud.

And she has a garden at home! Precious! ... Seren couldn't help but think she needed to restrain herself. Keep breathing and stay calm. Little green-thumbed children were nothing to get too excited over. But deep down she knew they were.
"A garden! that's brilliant, just you wait until you see the student garden and the greenhouses, I'm sure you'll enjoy them immensely." Lowering her voice a little, so that only Harlow could hear, she whispered, "Plus... we have special fertilizer too," and gave her a small wink.

All this talk about herbology made her excited, and even though she loved the start of term feast, she longed to be back in her research shed.

SPOILER!!: Kristin

Seren smiled brightly-- when did she not? ...
"Well I'm sure your sister would have filled you in about Hogwarts, so I'm sure you'll feel right at home. I imagine it will take some getting used to though."But if the girl could handle Beauxbaton's then she could certainly handle Hogwarts... even with all the things that went on around here.

*sigh*

A normal year at Hogwarts? She'd never heard of such a thing, and at the same time she didn't want to. Hogwarts was special, and so it was only fitting for things to be a little out of place.

"I see." She let the silence grow and then forced herself to smile, having her own thoughts about first impressions. "Well we can work on that, can't we?" Althea's stillness simply made this prefect's fidgeting more obvious.

And yes, it WAS an odd question, but the professor answered obligingly enough. "Not particularly. I try to watch what I eat, Miss Hollingberry." Candy usually was off limits for her.

Her nostrils flared slightly. Yes. Did anyone HAVE this silly article? She simply didn't trust others to judge how important it was if it involved her at all. If it didn't matter, she'd see that for herself.

"Tate," she acknowledged with a nod. "Did you enjoy most of your time off?" Except the garbage news.
Her eyes tightened slightly and Althea regarded the Arithmancy professor coolly. "So you all keep saying."

She looked out over the hall, eyes flicking over each of the tables and stopping at her own former seat. As a student she'd been a Ravenclaw, but it was strange, right then, she couldn't drum up any particular loyalty or fondness. She supposed she'd wait and see how the students showed themselves.

"...perhaps you would show me and I might judge for myself." She looked at Josephina again, her tone slightly clipped but still carefully polite.
That did not for a pleased Althea make. She examined her new boss carefully. "Perhaps then, they need to be corrected." She, at least, was more than qualified for her new position. Qualified, and experienced and, she was certain of it already (but that might have just been her nature), the best Charms Professor Hogwarts would have seen in a decade. She lifted her chin slightly, her confidence clear, even if her thoughts were hidden.

Professor was right, but Thea's eyes tightened somewhat. "Thank you for the offer, Headmaster."

If that was what he wanted, that was what he got. Althea obliged with a frosty sort of distance.

"I shall. I remember the way quite well." Althea stood up, her chair staying remarkably silent as it scraped out behind her. She looked out at the students again, and then with a final cursory glance at her colleagues, Professor Schirmer marched from the hall, to find an elf.

Kimber sat, ruminating over the state of Hogwarts, when a soft, familiar voice broke through. Looking at Kurumi, she gave her first smile of the night and sat up straighter in her chair. "Good evening to you, my dear," she said, putting on a happy face for her prefect even though her stomach was starting to rumble.

She tilted her head at the girl's nice words and her smile grew wider. "Miss Hollingberry, your efforts here have proved to me that you deserve every opportunity I have to offer." She was going to say more when she saw the cookie being handed to her.

'What was this?!' she thought, beaming down at the prefect. She opened the cookie quickly and broke off a HUGE piece to shove into her mouth. Thanks to Kurumi, maybe she wouldn't starve before the feast was over. "Mmm *chew* "thank you..." *chew chew* "...so much," she said, covering her mouth so that her food didn't show as she spoke. Then she looked down the table and waved the rest of her treat at Chad in a "want-the-other-half" type gesture.

"Bethy!" Fina exclaimed. "I didn't know you were coming to work at Hogwarts!" Well of course not. How could she have when she lost contact with mostly everyone upon her own graduation? And so much for not shouting down the staff table.
Beth looked up and across the table as she heard an old nickname; one she'd not heard in YEARS. Bethy. The only people who called her that were her fellow Hufflepuffs.

With a bemused eyebrow raised, Beth couldn't believe it. "Josephina?" She grinned at the woman's statement. "And I had no idea that you were already back! What do you teach?" Granted, Beth hadn't talked to Josephina since they were at school, but that was besides the point. Hogwarts was talking point of the Profit often enough, you'd have thought that Beth would've heard Josephina's name crop up... Or maybe she just didn't make the connection without the face. Eh.

Was talking loudly across several other professors the norm among the professors these days? ... It seemed a bit rude. But it was nice to see a familiar face.

Quidditch, yes of course! How did Beth forget about Hogwarts' Quidditch teams? From what Selen was saying, Beth gathered that the Hogwartian's tried to play like the pro's. "Ahh, well. I suppose Quidditch is no fun when it's not brutal." Sliiiightly sarcastic there. Although... Back in her Quidditch Mediwitch days, it was always a disappointment whenever there were only two injuries to heal the whole match.

Hmm. Tate had apparently offended the new Charms Professor, and he watched her stalk out of the Great Hall with some amusement. Women were so changeable.

Still, he appreciated her initiative in pursuing the kitchen issues. Oh, oh! Would she remember to bring back the mead when she came? Priorities.

The sound of a small giggle had brought Fina back to her half of the table though and she realized how much more Maya was missed at the mention of a trend. Because she was sure, had the Mexicana been present, she would have continued the trend with an 'Hola' or something. "Likewise." Had she said that already? Merlin, she shouldn't be so distracted already; term had barely begun. "So you're a transfer then, did I hear? Welcome."

Always with baking. "I'm sure they will appreciate that." Fina stated nonchalantly, oblivious to the fact that she should be showing the new Gryffindors to the common room. But it seems the return of Magnus had the Lioness backtracking toward the opposite end of the table. "Nice to see you back then and enjoy the feast." Well as much as could with the filthy silverware and goblets.

Shame too, as she was looking forward to sliding up to office quickly as it seemed she had left the article on her desk. She'd have to find some other excuse to leave the Hall then, lest Althea wait until after the feast to read the article. Not that there would be any harm in that, since an earlier read might put a damper on the rest of her first feast back at Hogwarts.

Granted, Beth hadn't talked to Josephina since they were at school, but that was besides the point.

Hearing her name in a surprised tone, Fina glanced down and was pleased to see that her little Puff had remembered her. Though the woman was only a younger than her, she was still her 'little Puff'. Heh. "This will be my fifth year now back. Arithmancy, of course!" That shouldn't really have come as a surprise though.

As there were several chairs between them - including the Headmaster - Fina decided it'd be best to cease their conversation for now. But it was still nice to see another familiar face amongst the staff. "We shall have to catch up later!" That wasn't really a question, but a request of course. Mandated, slightly, even. Finding out what her former housemate was up to since she graduated and all.

Glancing down the table she spotted who she assumed was the man that had spoken to her. Giving him a smile, she nodded too. "I'm sorry, didn't introduce myself. Isabelle Magnus, Transfiguration." She would have offered a hand, but he was too far away. "So I assume that you are a returning Professor?

"Perhaps they are just on strike then?" He was only joking around of course but even after saying the words he wanted to take them back. House elves didn't go on strike. They lived to serve, and the logical part of his brain did not let him forget that. He picked up his fork which had bits and pieces of dried food attached. "Noting a a good scourgify can't fix." He dropped it back without a second thought. "Pleasure Isabelle. Everett Scabior. History of Magic. But please, call me Dash." Everett. Way to formal.

SPOILER!!: Kurumi

Maybe.

The girl just stood there. Looking confused and blinking. Was she upset that he had replaced her favourite teacher or something? Everett looked at her, blinking right back, until finally she spoke up. And...she was bowing at him? Yeah. Everett nodded. It was a little too much respect. "Well then.....thank you Miss Hollingberry." Was that the right thing to say?

SPOILER!!: Bentley

He couldn't help but chuckle. No really he couldn't. The idea of going around the castle calling Seren Starflower, was simply too entertaining. "Sadly, I think you have." Imagine Starflower. Everett cracked a grin before quickly returning to his normal, uncaring expression.

"Hmm. Yes." History did take a lot of time and concentration. "The great thing about History is that although it does deal with the past, there is always something new to learn." Pointers? Everett shifted in his chair before shaking his head. "No thank you. I am honestly sure that I would drive you up the wall." He was that bad at Herbology.

*HICCUP!*

Little Pips, the house elf, crept along the staff table with his head down. He was trying his very VERY hardest to clean the cups and spoons and plates and things without attracting the ire of the staff members, but it was unavoidable that he would be noticed. How could one ignore the occasional head-bashing or the dropping of an empty chair on his long elf-foot?

He mumbled to himself. "Pips is being sorry. Pips is punishing himself. No professors is having to eat off dirty things anymore." The elf twitched his bat-like ears.
