Default Staff Table

The staff are seated at a long table stretching across a dais at the front of the room. Feel free to come up and greet them after the feast has started.

The glittering night sky is clear and visible through the enchanted ceiling, and the floating candles bedeck the entire hall in a warm golden light. All seems well with the world, aside from the empty plates still waiting for food to appear.

And what's this? The silverware is tarnished and askew, almost as if thrust on the table willy-nilly. Take a seat and search for a clean spoon while the Sorting Hat ceremony commences. The House Elves have done their clean up work quickly and effectively, and the silverware and dishes are now set to right.

Kurumi bowed her head in gratitude.

Daughter? Did that mean she had just had a baby? Kurumi was too shy to ask - especially if she was mistaken. "I will be sure to stop by," she nodded. And her smile brightened even more when her subject was confirmed. "I actually have a few questions for you, so you can expect me to come sooner than later." Kurumi tugged on her robes feeling nervous about the conversation she had been wanting to have for over a year now. There was no way she could have gone to haw about this - the man didn't have office hours for on.

Isabelle's stomach grumbled, and she coughed lightly hoping to cover the un-ladylike sound. Maybe she'd be able to snag one of the cookies that Kurumi had left down the other end of the table...

"I look forward to it," Issy smiled. She certainly did like chatting to one of her most gifted students. Melting things aside. Questions, eh? Although Kurumi looked a little nervous when she said it. Hopefully it was nothing bad. "Well I'll do my best to answer them fully for you. Tomorrow, be all right?" Because surely they all wanted sleep after the feast. If they were even getting a feast, that was.

There were quite a few new professors there and well she was curious. Even as her steps brought her closer, Ivory was already looking along the seated staff and trying to figure who was teaching what this year. Like what the woman in spiked heels was teaching??? Now it could be said that the brunette was fashion conscious….to an extent. She was a girl after all. But she didn’t usually pay attention to what other people wore…until now that is. Because those boots….they were killer boots. But that was neither here nor there. Her appreciative glance at the footwear most likely illustrated her approval anyway.

Approaching the table, Ivory addressed the staff in general. ”Hello,” she greeted with a friendly smile and a small wave. ”Ivory Erised,” she offered by way of introduction, directing her words to the newer members of the staff. ”Ravenclaw prefect.”

Her slim arm extended behind her to encompass her house table as the corner of her mouth picked up, the dimple on her right cheek peeking into appearance. ”And on behalf of our House,” The Ravenclaw house obviously. ”I just wanted to welcome the new faces and...” she added with a respectful nod to the Headmaster and all the returning professors. ”-Say ‘We’re glad to have you back’ to the old.”

Suddenly, her expression froze on her face. The horror of what she’d just said hitting her like a burlap sack of garden gnomes to the chest.

”I mean…not ‘old’ of course. Just familiar. ” she amended quickly, her eyes large and unblinking.” Because you’re not old. Not that old. I mean…just a little bit. Well….I only meant older than us students…because- you all look GREAT.” she finished lamely a bit red in the face, and just a smidgen of uncontrollable color spreading to the roots of her hair.

Issy had to let out a little laugh as the Ravenclaw Prefect arrived and proceeded to introduce herself. Tongue tied in front of the teachers. She remembered how she was actually like that at school. It took until about 6th year to grow out of it.

"I think we know what you mean, Miss Erised," Issy smiled in her direction. "It's nice to see you again as well."

SPOILER!!: Lara

Well...to be exactly, to a part of it and yes, she must have been there. His eyes could not catch her but she must have been there. Yes. Professor Hadley too. And Madam Donovan.

So, leaving the rather crowded Gryffindor table right after opening the large package before himself and taking the bunch of flowers from inside it, Josh made his way to the Staff Table of course with the well-known Josh-style; full of confidence and charm. And once he approached, the lion boy stopped before the long table with a little but warm smile and looked at everyone at the table in general.

Ah! There were new faces.

''Hello, professors!!!'' then he said, not yelling this time, but loud enough for everyone on the table to hear. He wanted to present a seperate and special greeting to the ladies but since that might have sounded weird after the previous one he decided against it. ''I came to bring my greeting to you all and...surprises for the ladies!''

Yea. He was directly coming to the point and act before Josh Carter was mostly a man of action, not words. Therefore after giving them a new smile he began to...wait!!!

He looked at the people at the table again, from one end to the other. And...Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeh!! There were more ladies than the amount of his flowers. Now that was a problem which was natural with all the new faces...or...he just had to remember that he was a wizard, even of-age one.

*awkward smile*

''Please, excuse me!'' and with that he turned his back to attempt or just at least pretend to hide what he was going to do. It was impossible not to be noticed doing it with a bunch of flowers, a long wand and so many people. Nevertheless, the boy took his wand out and quickly Geminio-ed some of the flowers to match the amount of ladies. Of course leaving only one red rose.

''Aha! Ready now!'' Hehe. Now he could start, so he did. Starting from the left side of the table he started to drop one white rose on the table for each lady in the order they were sitting in (Hadley, McClane, Schirmer, Glass, Brooks, Bentley, Donovan, Cerulean, Magnus), only passing by Professor Lafay though, for she was not there, till all the white roses were given.

However he could not say that there was also some special issues with the white rose giving; first he had to double take at this new lady (Nixy!) and that one there (Maxilocks) was...like...WOW!! So wow that he might have stared at her a little bir too much before he remembered that he needed to move on. Then there was Professor Magnus. Yet before he could say anything about it, Josh's dark brown eyes went to Lafay's empty seat. What a disappointment.

Better look at somewhere else and greeting the returning professor was a good enough distraction. ''Professor Magnus!''

Still...the red rose for Lafay remained in his hand.

Hmmm, Josh Carter was still here then.

Had he changed his ways, or was he just being extra polite this evening? Who knew. But he had roses. Which, judging by the fact he had to turn his back on them before he could place them all down, probably wouldn't last the night. "Thank you, Mister Carter," Issy smiled, reaching forward to pick up the rose he'd put in front of her plate. "Nice to see you've mastered the Geminio spell." There might have been the smallest hint of a cheeky wink there.

----------------------------

Now that the plates and things were once again not acting as a distraction, Tate supposed the time had come for his traditional speech. He regretted doing it without Max present, but the man was late enough. He couldn't wait any longer.

With the air of the martyr, Tate rose from his seat and waited quietly for the students to fall silent. He wasn't going to shout over them, by Merlin. "Good evening, Hogwarts students and faculty," he began once the volume was acceptable. "I want to welcome you to another year at Hogwarts, another year for learning and growing, and another year for taking in as much as you can before we set you loose on the world again in 10 months."

"I apologize for the state of the Great Hall upon your entry. We've all had a busy summer, and if things weren't up to our normal level of excellence, we appreciate the fast actions of our house elves to fix the issues. I hope you will express your gratitude to them when the opportunity appears, and I'm sure we will all enjoy the wonderful dinner they've prepared when it arrives in a few moments." He gave a fixed look at that, implying that whether the students were grateful or NOT, they'd best act it in his presence. Never was a good reason to be rude to those who served.

"As those returning can see, we have a number of new faces up here at the staff table. New faces does not imply naivety, however, and I think you'll find them to be a tough yet fair group. Let's give them the respect they deserve, please. Classes will begin in a few days, and I hope you're looking forward to them." He certainly was, although that was more to the fact that classes gave the students less time to get up to trouble.

"Finally, we have a busy year planned for you, even in addition to classes and homework. I hope you'll keep your eyes on your house bulletin boards and the board in the Entrance Hall for reminders and announcements. Our top point earners from last term should expect their visit to happen in the new few days, so keep an eye out for an owl from the Ministry. And... enjoy your meal!"

He raised a hand in acknowledgment before sliding back into his seat just as the food appeared on each table in the Great Hall. Now see? That was good service.

Isabelle acknowledged the nod the Headmaster gave her, and returned it with a smile. At least she now figured he wasn't upset with her.

Fiddling around with the newly cleaned cutlery, Issy was now waiting for the speech. And she didn't have to wait long either. Yes, wonderful speech. Although she noticed he didn't tell them not to die. Last term must have been successful on that front then.

Oooh, food. Fantastic. Piling some of the chicken onto her plate, Issy added potatoes and carrots, before pouring on the gravy. She hadn't had a roast since...well, a few weeks. And it was her favourite. But upon taking a mouthful she screwed up her face and spat out the potato. It was a bit hard. Something wasn't right.

Clap. Clap.

Yeah, show a little enthusiasm, Max.

"Nice speech. Did I miss a massive house prank or has this place become a dump?" Vindictus asked as he settled into his chair.

The food finally appeared and he wrinkled his nose up at it.

"This is called food? At least I was smart enough to eat at Hogsmeade, hence my late arrival."

The deputy headmaster pushed back his tarnished (and empty) plate and leaned back in his chair.

Of course, the question had to be preceded by a novel. Children. Sarani arched an eyebrow when the girl fell silent, at long last.

"House points promote and enforce good behaviour and values, Miss Oliver." Did that even need to be said? "The points system instills a healthy sense of competition in the students - encouraging hard work, teamwork, kindness -" Whatever that was. "- and acts of courage, and discouraging disrespect and indiscipline - and gives them a collective goal to work towards."

"Is there anything else you would like to ask, Miss..." Ollivander? Villier? "Oliver?"

Just as Sarah had thought, the professor seemed to think it was a pretty pathetic question.

She listened curiously, though, to what the professor said. Yes, that made sense. She supposed she could have come up with that answer on her own if she had thought hard enough, but truthfully, she had wanted an excuse to meet the professors.

She jolted out of her thoughts as Professor Glass asked her a question. Had she forgotten her name already? Really? What a nasty professor.

"Er, no, that's it. Thanks Professor." hmmph. maybe she would forget her name.

Wait!!

Now that the headmaster was on his feet, this could mean only one thing: FOOD WAS ABOUT TO APPEAR!!!!

Good news!! So good that, the boy almost forgot about the red single rose in his hand, just staring at the Tatertot as he spoke. It was very unlikely that he had understood half of the man's words though. Not that he did not listen to him, quite the opposite, he became all ears and paid all his attention to the man's speech instead of the ladies and the single red rose yet the fact that FOOD WAS GOING TO APPEAR SOON was invading his mind so much that...he was unable to remember a single word of the man's speech when it was over. Huh?

If she wasn't the only one getting a silly rose, she didn't want it.
Another huh?

Yes. Maybe he was kind of hypnotised by the thought that FOOD was waiting for him there at the Gryffindor table yet, still, it did not escape Josh's eyes that the woman, that new one there, had pushed his rose gift away. Eh. Maybe it was disappointing but the lion boy was already used to familiar scenes as Professor Lafay liked to burn his gifts to ashes...which was way worse than just pushing them away. Sighing a bit, the Gryffindor gave the woman a smile anyway.

he had good taste in roses, "It's so good to see you again, I trust you enjoyed your summer?" she asked taking up the white rose and smelling its perfume.
At least someone seemed to be happy with her rose which made Josh's smile widen some. Of course, the nice Professor Bentley would appreciate his gift. And she was even asking about his summer. Wow. That was so kind of her, actually for Josh never thought they would care about it even if he came back alive or not.

Nodding at the woman when she thanked for the rose, he took a step closer to her side so he could answer her question properly. Did he enjoy his summer? Well...he did not leave the school to enjoy the summer at the end of the last term. Actually he had been working all summer but it did not mean he never enjoyed a moment. ''It was a...beneficial one. Thank you, professor.''

"I hope this isn't one of the duplicated roses, Mr. -" What had Bentley just called him? "Carter. I don't find it pleasant when roses I've been given, disappear." She smiled at the Gryffindor. It was not the nicest smile.
Then Josh quickly looked at the direction where the other unfamiliar voice rose, only to face the beautiful new woman. Ooooh...she did not look too happy with the rose either, though. Now...that was going to feel so Lafay-like. Since he always...huh? Wait!! She was holding it!!! Was she going to set it on fire...or not? And was it an unchangeable law in this world that all hot women had to be...pyromaniacs? Hey, he did not know if this one was also a pyromaniac or not. Not to mention he was feeling lucky that he had a Salamander scale wand. The logic was the same; wand chose the wizard, Salamander scale core chose Josh, Salamander was fiery then Josh was fiery too. Hahahahah.

Ha? Forget the previous thoughts, the lady had just asked a good question. ''I...'' of course the words, that were going to be voiced by him, were all going to be of pure truth This Gryffindor was against the use of lies and could never lie to escpecially beautiful ladies. ''...i don't know, professor.''

Yes or no. He had not paid attention to which one he was giving her.

It was official. The new woman made him feel awkward and nothing was like moving your attention back to an old, trusty professor if you wanted to escape some awkwardness. Ahem. Of course, the 'old' there did not mean 'age old', it was just 'someone he knew previously'.

The Gryffindor gave the Transfiguration professor a kind nod too when she thanked for the rose and...oh? She had seen him casting that spell too. Eh. He already knew it was very unlikely that he would be able to hide the act anyway. And yea...maybe she was right. Mastering the 'Geminio' spell should have looked too good for a student who forgot to bring his wand to a Transfiguration lesson which was all about spell casting. But the woman did not know it yet that he had advanced his Transfiguration skills pretty much thanks to the coolness called Shaw the last term.

It still might not be a reason not to forget his wand, though. Whatever...

''Umm...i do try, professor. Just discovered that a little bit practice helps.''

And know Josh supposed the Gryffindor table which was now full of FOOD was calling for him so though he was unable to see all the smiles of all the ladies at the table, the boy started to think that the time for him to leave had come. Too bad he could not see Lafay, though which was now started to feel...well...pretty disappointing.

So, he stared down at the single red rose in his hand...

...then the idea hit him.

From now on there was someone else to give it anway. Hehe. Quickly looking up he walked back to the new lady and placed the red rose in front of her too...right before smiling and ''I...well...am supposed to go back to my table i suppose.'' making his way back to the lions' table.
