Default Staff Table

The staff are seated at a long table stretching across a dais at the front of the room. Feel free to come up and greet them after the feast has started.

The glittering night sky is clear and visible through the enchanted ceiling, and the floating candles bedeck the entire hall in a warm golden light. All seems well with the world, aside from the empty plates still waiting for food to appear.

And what's this? The silverware is tarnished and askew, almost as if thrust on the table willy-nilly. Take a seat and search for a clean spoon while the Sorting Hat ceremony commences. The House Elves have done their clean up work quickly and effectively, and the silverware and dishes are now set to right.

India had snuck up to the staff table to say hello to her new Professors when, she spotted the batlike ears of Pip, the house elf her table had so berated. Evil, evil people. She gave him a quick smile.

"Hello, Pip was it? Thank you for cleaning the table - it was so very kind of you." She smiled. "I've got an idea for you eh - how about, don't hurt yourself...just think about it when you polish and then punish the tarnish on the silverware." She smiled. Maybe that would help? Friendly? They looked... loud. Beth laughed at Selen's comment. "Kids and clumsiness come hand-in-hand though, don't they?" ... She knew SHE was a clumsy kid. Surely she wasn't the only one. Oooh. Quidditch, yes of course! How did Beth forget about Hogwarts' Quidditch teams? From what Selen was saying, Beth gathered that the Hogwartian's tried to play like the pro's. "Ahh, well. I suppose Quidditch is no fun when it's not brutal." Sliiiightly sarcastic there. Although... Back in her Quidditch Mediwitch days, it was always a disappointment whenever there were only two injuries to heal the whole match.
"Mmm perhaps," mused Seren, though she wasn't sure what the catalyst to this was... the house elves had always been so well behaved and... well useful. No matter, Tate would make sure they were alright.

"That is too true," remarked Seren, laughing lightly. "Would you believe it, last term I had a student try to feed a peer to a Snargaluff!"
Oh Jacob had paid for that... but strangely she missed the boy and his quirks. It would certainly be a lot quieter now.

"Hmm. Yes." History did take a lot of time and concentration. "The great thing about History is that although it does deal with the past, there is always something new to learn." Pointers? Everett shifted in his chair before shaking his head. "No thank you. I am honestly sure that I would drive you up the wall." He was that bad at Herbology.
It was good to see that Dash could see the funny side of things. Her nickname was rather ridiculous. But there would always be a part of her that cherished it. "I think you're right."
No matter.. Seren was fine with her, as boring as it was.

"I agree, there are so many lessons we can learn, and it seems that no matter how much time has passed, its all still relevant."
Thats what amazed her the most. Whenever she did get the chance to do some light reading she could always ... emphatise with it.
"You'd be surprised, there's not much that can drive me mad." But she took the hint. No herbology.

Aahh about time something was being done about this. Seren watched as he worked away, cleaning what should have already been cleaned. Poor dear... he seemed... stressed.

"Thank you Pips," she said, offering the house elf a genuine smile.

It took Salander a while to extricate himself from the Slytherin table, having plunged head first into duties he was still figuring out as he went along. But he had been meaning to speak with the Headmaster as soon as he saw an opportune time-- which meant he shouldnt wait around pressing his luck that he might run into him at the stairs again with some lamebrain idea.

The Slytherin just reached the dais as a blonde woman strode quickly past him, doing a double take before forcing to turn his head back to the task at hand. He gazed up at the Headmaster still speaking to fellow professors, catching bits and pieces about the House Elves. Huh, well looks like the rumor mill at the Slytertherin table was no where near accurate. Then again far be it for him to actually believe in rumors....

He cleared his throat politely before uttering "Greetings Headmaster, a moment of your time Sir?" he said

Narrowing her eyes, Issy scanned the plate that had been placed in her spot. It was dirty, and - dirty.

Shaking her head at what must have been just some stray dirt the house elves hadn't noticed, she took out her wand and cleaned it herself, before sitting in her seat. Leaning forward she glanced down the table to all the other people sat at it - noticing the seat next to her was currently empty. "Good evening everyone! Nice to be back, isn't it?" Some she knew, others not. But from her place at the end of the table, now wasn't really a good time to socialise.

She did notice Kurumi though, down the other end. Giving the girl a broad smile and small wave, Issy went back to looking at the table layout. She hadn't yet seen the gleaming badge the Gryffindor was wearing.

Picking up the goblet in front of her, Issy was just about to take a sip when she saw something. "Why is there dirty, black stuff floating in my pumpkin juice?" She asked no one inpaticular.

His eyes strayed the length of the staff table, there were a lot of new faces... but what bothered this Slytherin the most was the noticeably absent faces of his favorites-- the lovely Healer Morretti and Professor Bishop. So much so that a small panic started to well at the pit of his stomach. They were just late right? Riiiiiiight?

His eyes darted quickly to a voice strangely familiar yet new, at least something he hadnt grown accustomed to from the past term. He blinked a few times before he realized who it was "Professor Magnus!" the Slytherin lad exclaimed as he neared the lady, wanting to make sure his eyes werent playing tricks on him "Your back? I mean, of course your back! I still got that bag we transfigured from the other term-- I'm still using it!" he uttered proudly.

He turned sharply at the sound of what he guessed was one of the elves from the kitchens "Dont worry lil fella it happens..." does it? Well admittedly this was the first time Salander saw an elf work to be less than stellar. Then again he was the kind of guy that was raised to do his own dishes.

Nimma apparated to the staff table. Unlike Pips she wasn't trying to not be noticed, she needed punishing! She claimed a fork.

"Oh Pips! Oh Pips! Nimma is being slow! Nimma is sorry! Nimma has cleaned only one table! Nimma is a bad elf, badder than all other elves! Nimma must be punished! Nimma is being slow!"

Nimma used her elf magic to clean too.

"Nimma and Pips is to be getting back now! Nimma and Pips is needed in the kitchen! Nimma and Pips and Quirly!" She looked anxious, the little elf.

"Nimma has suggestion for Pips. Studentsies does not like Nimma to punish herself, but Nimma must be punished. Pips could punish Nimma and Nimma could punish Pips if Pips likes! And Nimma and Pips can clean and punish and take care of elf things that is needing takings care of!"

She waved her fork obligingly, in case Pips was amenable to being prodded.

The very nice Ravenclaw was following him now, and Pips didn't like the attention she drew to him. All he could do was drop an occasional nod in her direction and continue to work.

"Elves is doing many jobs at Hogwarts. Elves is not blaming the castle for the jobs that need doing. Thank you, Mistress, but elves is not doing their work on time." And they must be punished. She was so distracting!

"Nimma is being loud," Pips hissed at her, but he didn't grab for that fork. Really, if she was offering to help punish him, then Pips should just let her do that. Time-saving.

He finished the last cup and gestured for Nimma to head back to the kitchen with him. Or to prod him. However she felt. "Pips is ironing his ears later, if Nimma is wanting to come."

India had happened to be there when she heard Nimma say what she had to Pips. Oh god. She had started the dumbest idea ever.

"I should have kept my mouth shut!" She squeaked, before stepping forward, and kneeling infront of Nimma and Pips. "Hey Nimma, please don't do that...we don't want you to hurt eachother either, I mean - you don't need to you are all good and its not your fault. Things sometimes just happen." She gave them a sorry smile. She was trying to right her wrong.

"Why not - write slam poetry instead...or go into the corner and yell, and then finish it'd be far better then causing eachother or oneother pain." She needed to help them. Needed to. It was all her fault. She was a bad witch.

Nimma blinked at the Blue miss. "Nimma is sorry Blue miss."

Slam poetry? Pips was good at slamming his head into the table, it was almost art. Was that what Blue Miss meant?

"Nimma is sorry!" Nimma was! Nimma had not thought that Nimma was loud in also to the slow and the bad. Nimma's eyes were downcast but she did obligingly give Pips a prod with her fork, all four prongs for Pips.

"Oh!" The little elf blushed. "Nimma would like very much to be ironed by Pips. Nimma can bring Nimma's fork."

"A garden! that's brilliant, just you wait until you see the student garden and the greenhouses, I'm sure you'll enjoy them immensely." Lowering her voice a little, so that only Harlow could hear, she whispered, "Plus... we have special fertilizer too," and gave her a small wink.

All this talk about herbology made her excited, and even though she loved the start of term feast, she longed to be back in her research shed.
Harlow nodded happily. So she didn't have to ask to start a garden. She could just plant her things in the student garden. "I even have a garden book." she was telling Professor Bentley all her secrets. Not even her mom knew she had a garden book.

She giggled at her wink. It wasn't ladylike to talk about fertilizer but she was glad the professor had a sense of humor. Well she had given her present and introduced herself just like her mom had told her to do. he gave the professor a little curtsy, "It was so nice to meet you Professor Bentley. I won't delay your dinner anymore." She knew how fast adults could tire of children. And she got a feeling she was going to be spending a lot of time in the gardens so it was best not to wear her welcome out so soon.

Pips didn't even jump as he was stabbed with the fork, but it wasn't a very hard stab. Not much punishment at all.

He dropped his voice to respond to her. "Thank you, Nimma. The Headman is giving us looks. We is having to go back to the kitchens now." He wrapped his long fingers around her wrist and they both disappeared in a clap of noise.

*sigh*

A normal year at Hogwarts? She'd never heard of such a thing, and at the same time she didn't want to. Hogwarts was special, and so it was only fitting for things to be a little out of place.
The conversation with the Herbology professor only made Stella relax more. maybe there wasn't so much to worry about. It didn't seem like anyone had really had a problem with her accidentally speaking French after all. Plus, it was hard to really be uncomfortable when the professor was smiling that big, and bright. "She did," she confirmed, as the idea that Talia had told her about how Hogwarts worked was brought up. That was a complete fact, even before she'd graduated and they'd agreed to have her move into the flat in London so she could transfer. "I think I'll do okay." She was good at adapting, at least, especially since she'd been looking forward to this practically since she'd started at Beauxbatons.

It seemed like something had interrupted the conversation, though, so Stella had glanced away to let Professor Bentley have her thoughts.

Merlin, she shouldn't be so distracted already; term had barely begun. "So you're a transfer then, did I hear? Welcome."
Luckily, it seemed like her earlier giggle had gotten Professor Hadley's attention again, which gave Stella something to focus on while she was letting Professor Bentley think. Although, there was almost a wistfulness to the Arithmancy professor's expression, before she'd replied to the pleasantries. She was curious, but simply nodded to acknowledge the return of the sentiment. Maybe she'd find out what was going on there later. It seemed there was murmurs about professors having left, which might very well have caused that look. Maybe the language talk triggered thoughts of missing professors.

But then the topic of her having transferred came back, and she held back a sigh as she smiled at the professor. "You did hear that, and thank you," she replied, keeping herself calm. Just because she didn't want to be thought of as a transfer didn't make it any less true. Next thing she knew, there was the distraction of one of the other professors just standing up and stalking out of the room, definitely not hard to miss as it had been not far from where she'd been standing. The Charms professor certainly wasn't taking something well, which told her to be careful around the woman. And then she was having to step back the slightest bit, as two house elves had come up and bustled around cleaning the tableware. Glancing back toward her House table, she wondered if that meant the icky silverware thing was over with, before turning back as there was talk of punishment and ironing of ears and her eyes widened as the two elves disappeared. Maybe she should go to her own table soon. If the professors wanted her to. And think about searching out all house elves to prevent injury to any of them.

Shaw hadn't been terrible, class had been insightful and useful...but the man frightened her to little cookie pieces. Then there was Mr. Viking, who she couldn't understand. It had caused her and Sierra to misunderstand an assignment they had been given in class. But, at least that had gotten in some extra practice, right?

Kurumi's cheeks were now the color of two ripe apples. "Thank you," she whispered. The applause really wasn't necessary, but Kurumi appreciated the gesture nonetheless. "I missed you last term, professor." The woman really didn't know the weight behind that statement. "Have you come back to teach...Transfiguration?"

Please say yes please say yes...

Isabelle was still beaming, and failed to notice that her enthusiasm had shocked the young girl. She could be quite loud when she got excited, maybe that was something she'd need to rein in. Or it could have been lingering hormones. Either way she was happy, and giggled slightly at the colour that had flushed in Kurumi's cheeks. "I'm very proud of you, you know," she whispered, leaning across the table slightly. After all this was one of the school's best students. "No one more deserving, I don't think."

Ohhh, she missed her. Don't tear up, don't tear up. Isabelle smiled warmly and wiped her eye. She wasn't crying though. No. "And I missed you all," she replied. "I was rather busy last year though. You'll have to come to my office, I'll show the picture of my daughter!" Mhmm, she was mighty proud of her. Teaching Transfiguration? "Why yes indeed I am," Issy winked.

It was a heckuva job to pick up after a castle full of teenagers.

"They might be ill or having an issue, but I will not have them slandered. They care about their work and would be horrified to know we're speaking ill of them. Perhaps one of you will run down and check on them. See how dinner is coming and maybe... see if one is available to clean the silverware?"

Oh dear, had they said something wrong? Headmaster Tate was doing that talk-to-the-hand thing to hush them up. Issy hadn't meant to speak ill of the house elves - she loved them. They were always so nice and helpful to her whenever she wanted a snack, or, while she was teaching, her classroom cleaned. "Sorry, Headmaster," she said, bowing her head slightly. "As I said, I hope there is nothing wrong."

Go and check? Why yes, of course she ---Oh. Someone had beaten her to it. Isabelle watched the blonde woman she didn't know exit the hall at a quick pace. Well, they'd get answers soon with her walking that speed. Whoever she was.

SPOILER!!: Dash

He dropped it back without a second thought. "Pleasure Isabelle. Everett Scabior. History of Magic. But please, call me Dash." Everett. Way to formal.

"It would be very unusual if they were. I've never known it before." Isabelle was far too concerned to notice the hint of joke in the man's voice. Her brows furrowed as she saw more and more bits of dried food stuck to things. Most unusual. "Hmm, of course. Let's hope the older students remember how to do it, and help the younger ones," she smiled. This was happening at all the tables, right? Or were they getting special treatment?

"Nice to meet you, Dash. And do call me Issy, I much prefer it." She grinned again and flicked her wand at her goblet vanishing the tainted pumpkin juice. Suddenly she didn't fancy anything to drink. "I must admit, History of Magic was never one of my best subjects." Keep the conversation away from house elves...

How could one ignore the occasional head-bashing or the dropping of an empty chair on his long elf-foot?

He mumbled to himself. "Pips is being sorry. Pips is punishing himself. No professors is having to eat off dirty things anymore." The elf twitched his bat-like ears.
...Which was going to be harder now one had arrived.

Blonde lady must have got the job done.

"Pips?" Issy spoke quietly so not to make the elf jump. "Thank you. And I do hope things are all right in the kitchens?" Well obviously, something wasn't, but maybe they'd share if she asked?

SPOILER!!: Salander

His eyes darted quickly to a voice strangely familiar yet new, at least something he hadnt grown accustomed to from the past term. He blinked a few times before he realized who it was "Professor Magnus!" the Slytherin lad exclaimed as he neared the lady, wanting to make sure his eyes werent playing tricks on him "Your back? I mean, of course your back! I still got that bag we transfigured from the other term-- I'm still using it!" he uttered proudly.

Okay, that made her jump. Good thing Issy didn't have food or drink in her mouth, she would have choked. Actually, not a good thing - she was starving. But now the elves were cleaning up maybe they'd get food soon. Yes?

"Salander! I am back, yes. How observant of you," she winked jokily and adjusted herself in her seat. And his next comment made her smile broadly. It was always so lovely when the kids made good use of the things they transfigured. Made her feel as proud as Salander seemed to be. "That's wonderful! Keeping your Head Boy badge in it sometimes, are we?" Isabelle grinned wider and nodded in the direction of the badge. "Congratulations!"

Kurumi nearly jumped out of her robes when the Headmaster addressed her. She certainly hadn't been expecting it considering that the man seemed to be preoccupied with...whatever he had just said a little while ago that had been poorly written and the disaster that was the table settings.

"O-O-Oatmeal?" Kurumi squeaked. Her face was one of horror. MERLIN! She had prepared a simple lemon sugar cookie with a gentle buttercream frosting for this evening. The thought of making oatmeal ones never crossed her mind. Kurumi nearly smacked her forehead. She was always making sugar cookies, or some variation of them, for the opening feast. How could she forget the oatmeal?!

End of the term feast. For sure!

"I-I-I'm afraid I did not prepare oatmeal cookies for this evening," she said with a slight frown. Still, the tone of the Headmaster was, surprisingly, light. She picked up the box and held it out for him. "B-But I will keep that in mind for next time."

She fumbled around a bit, not wanting to continue to take up too much of his time as she was sure he was running through his speech that he would be giving soon in his head.

"And...I want to thank you as well, for...allowing me to represent Gryffindor as a prefect." Truth was, Kurumi wasn't too sure that he had a hand in the decision making, but it seemed plausible that the Headmaster would have final say on the matter.

MEEP?

Kurumi felt awkward and intimidated speaking to the new Charms professor. Weren't they supposed to be...charming? Then again, the intimidation she felt speaking with with the woman in front of her was very VERY different from how she felt speaking with Drago--- Professor Lafay.

"I will certainly try my best."

And NOW Kurumi could breathe easily. Not a fan of chocolate frogs? Not a problem in this Gryffindor's book. Kurumi ought to have explained herself, but all thoughts of doing so were out the window. No chocolate frogs...FANTASTIC!

"I am not a big fan of them myself," she said with small smile. "I am sorry for taking up your time." And asking weird questions. "I hope you enjoy the rest of the feast and perhaps I will stop by your office sometime with a question or two." She actually already had a few formulating in her head, but the woman needed to eat.

She tilted her head at the girl's nice words and her smile grew wider. "Miss Hollingberry, your efforts here have proved to me that you deserve every opportunity I have to offer." She was going to say more when she saw the cookie being handed to her.

'What was this?!' she thought, beaming down at the prefect. She opened the cookie quickly and broke off a HUGE piece to shove into her mouth. Thanks to Kurumi, maybe she wouldn't starve before the feast was over. "Mmm *chew* "thank you..." *chew chew* "...so much," she said, covering her mouth so that her food didn't show as she spoke. Then she looked down the table and waved the rest of her treat at Chad in a "want-the-other-half" type gesture.
Kurumi's cheeks were on fire again and she looked at the ground for just a few moments - mostly to make sure that her hair didn't do anything to make her feel even more awkward.

She was suddenly struck with a thought. It was more of a memory from a few terms back when she had been speaking with Professor Zookara in his office. He had mentioned having a conversation with Madam Donovan about Kurumi's family situation, but she was not sure if that had ever happened. Kurumi wasn't sure if she would feel more comfortable with her Head of House knowing this information, or if it would make her more awkward.

Still, Kurumi would most likely need to discuss some research methods with her in the library soon, so perhaps it would be better for her to know?

"I-I can't promise I will be perfect, but I will do my best to make sure that you don't regret making me prefect," she said with a smile and a hair tug.

Kurumi's eyes lit up a bit more as the librarian enjoyed her Gryffindor cookie...and she noticed the wave at someone down the table. Kurumi's eyes followed and her head cocked to the side.

Interesting...very interesting...

Well as much as could with the filthy silverware and goblets.
Kurumi took Professor Hadley's last words as a polite signal that Kurumi should return to her table, which was probably true.

She bowed again and flashed her a quick smile. "You too, professor." And then she turned around to begin her decent back to the Gryffindor table.

Merlin. It was a good thing that Kurumi had been especially calm when they had began their conversation, because her hair would have been some light shade of orange by now from embarrassment - especially when the compliment had been whispered.

Kurumi bowed her head in gratitude.

Daughter? Did that mean she had just had a baby? Kurumi was too shy to ask - especially if she was mistaken. "I will be sure to stop by," she nodded. And her smile brightened even more when her subject was confirmed. "I actually have a few questions for you, so you can expect me to come sooner than later." Kurumi tugged on her robes feeling nervous about the conversation she had been wanting to have for over a year now. There was no way she could have gone to haw about this - the man didn't have office hours for on.

Sarani swept past the tables, her dark hair windswept and her spike-heeled boots clicking against the floor.

Hades. The place was full of children.

Sitting down next to the Charms professor, she arched an eyebrow as she caught sight of the Gryffindor prefect giving out what looked like cookies. In quite a few colours, at that.

What next, toffees?

<.< >,> v.v ^,^!

Excusing herself from her house table for a moment, the Ravenclaw prefect strode across the Great Hall. Her destination? Why, the staff table of course. There were quite a few new professors there and well she was curious. Even as her steps brought her closer, Ivory was already looking along the seated staff and trying to figure who was teaching what this year. Like what the woman in spiked heels was teaching??? Now it could be said that the brunette was fashion conscious….to an extent. She was a girl after all. But she didn’t usually pay attention to what other people wore…until now that is. Because those boots….they were killer boots. But that was neither here nor there. Her appreciative glance at the footwear most likely illustrated her approval anyway.

Approaching the table, Ivory addressed the staff in general. ”Hello,” she greeted with a friendly smile and a small wave. ”Ivory Erised,” she offered by way of introduction, directing her words to the newer members of the staff. ”Ravenclaw prefect.”

Her slim arm extended behind her to encompass her house table as the corner of her mouth picked up, the dimple on her right cheek peeking into appearance. ”And on behalf of our House,” The Ravenclaw house obviously. ”I just wanted to welcome the new faces and...” she added with a respectful nod to the Headmaster and all the returning professors. ”-Say ‘We’re glad to have you back’ to the old.”

Suddenly, her expression froze on her face. The horror of what she’d just said hitting her like a burlap sack of garden gnomes to the chest.

”I mean…not ‘old’ of course. Just familiar. ” she amended quickly, her eyes large and unblinking.” Because you’re not old. Not that old. I mean…just a little bit. Well….I only meant older than us students…because- you all look GREAT.” she finished lamely a bit red in the face, and just a smidgen of uncontrollable color spreading to the roots of her hair.

Sarah strode up to the table as confidently as she could. She kept her face carefree and happy, like it usually was, but she was faintly freaking out right now. She intended to ask one of the professors a question, but some of them looked very scary... er intimidating.

Sarah loped over to the closest staff member, "Hullo," she said, groaning inwardly at her choice. This lady looked like she would kill her! "Um, I wanted to ask a question. I figured that was allowed...?"

Sarah worked hard to keep calm. Just another person. Just another person. Right. She had this. She totally had this...

Sarani, who had been inspecting the nails of her left hand while the Ravenclaw stumbled over her words and attempted to explain just what she had meant, looked up at the girl once she had fallen silent. Despite her utter lack of composure, the girl looked intelligent. Which, Sarani supposed, might explain the badge pinned to her robes.

"Do you take Defense, Miss Erised?" She asked, one eyebrow arched.

Sarani raised an eyebrow. Children. She supposed Tate wouldn't be pleased if she told the girl that, as far as she, Sarani, was concerned, it wasn't allowed.

"I'd imagine that depends upon the question, Miss...?"

Yes. She would like a name. No. She did not intend to remember it.

Erp. Why did she choose this person again? She wondered if her brain had taken a short vacation during the time she had walked up to the professor, "Er, I'm Sarah Oliver," she said, "First year, Slytherin."

Sarah, for the first time in all her eleven years, wanted to run away. This lady had a stare like ice! She would content herself to walk/run away and ask another person on another day. But, Sarah reminded herself, she didn't do that sort of thing. Courage. Right, she had courage.

Default Flowers for the ladies again!!! (would have been a tradition if he had more years xD)
9 3/4 ticket holder / The SS Mentalist / Sherlock / The Master Of Everything / Josh + <3 = Ev

Maybe this was the moment. He was not sure if that had any suitable moments yet somehow it felt like this was the moment when he had happened to glance at the staff table. Well...to be exactly, to a part of it and yes, she must have been there. His eyes could not catch her but she must have been there. Yes. Professor Hadley too. And Madam Donovan.

So, leaving the rather crowded Gryffindor table right after opening the large package before himself and taking the bunch of flowers from inside it, Josh made his way to the Staff Table of course with the well-known Josh-style; full of confidence and charm. And once he approached, the lion boy stopped before the long table with a little but warm smile and looked at everyone at the table in general.

Ah! There were new faces.

''Hello, professors!!!'' then he said, not yelling this time, but loud enough for everyone on the table to hear. He wanted to present a seperate and special greeting to the ladies but since that might have sounded weird after the previous one he decided against it. ''I came to bring my greeting to you all and...surprises for the ladies!''

Yea. He was directly coming to the point and act before Josh Carter was mostly a man of action, not words. Therefore after giving them a new smile he began to...wait!!!

He looked at the people at the table again, from one end to the other. And...Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeh!! There were more ladies than the amount of his flowers. Now that was a problem which was natural with all the new faces...or...he just had to remember that he was a wizard, even of-age one.

*awkward smile*

''Please, excuse me!'' and with that he turned his back to attempt or just at least pretend to hide what he was going to do. It was impossible not to be noticed doing it with a bunch of flowers, a long wand and so many people. Nevertheless, the boy took his wand out and quickly Geminio-ed some of the flowers to match the amount of ladies. Of course leaving only one red rose.

''Aha! Ready now!'' Hehe. Now he could start, so he did. Starting from the left side of the table he started to drop one white rose on the table for each lady in the order they were sitting in (Hadley, McClane, Schirmer, Glass, Brooks, Bentley, Donovan, Cerulean, Magnus), only passing by Professor Lafay though, for she was not there, till all the white roses were given.

However he could not say that there was also some special issues with the white rose giving; first he had to double take at this new lady (Nixy!) and that one there (Maxilocks) was...like...WOW!! So wow that he might have stared at her a little bir too much before he remembered that he needed to move on. Then there was Professor Magnus. Yet before he could say anything about it, Josh's dark brown eyes went to Lafay's empty seat. What a disappointment.

Better look at somewhere else and greeting the returning professor was a good enough distraction. ''Professor Magnus!''

Still...the red rose for Lafay remained in his hand.

Tate didn't respond right away, but the appearance of the house elves resolved the issue. Clearly their magic was working and they were still passionate about their callings. It was a fluke. He gave Issy a nod to let her know he wasn't holding the indiscretion of others against her. She hadn't spoken against the poor elves.

"It was a joke, Hollingberry. I take the goodies I can get." Some Gryffindors were clever as a Ravenclaw in their school work but somehow were completely lacking in the good humor or interpersonal sense that was often characteristic of their house mates.

He accepted the cookie. "You're welcome. I hope to hear good things about you in terms to come."

Yes. She would like a name. No. She did not intend to remember it.

"Don't bite them, Professor. We're trying not to put them into therapy for the rest of their lives so much as possible," Tate gave the professor a measured look.

Now that the plates and things were once again not acting as a distraction, Tate supposed the time had come for his traditional speech. He regretted doing it without Max present, but the man was late enough. He couldn't wait any longer.

With the air of the martyr, Tate rose from his seat and waited quietly for the students to fall silent. He wasn't going to shout over them, by Merlin. "Good evening, Hogwarts students and faculty," he began once the volume was acceptable. "I want to welcome you to another year at Hogwarts, another year for learning and growing, and another year for taking in as much as you can before we set you loose on the world again in 10 months."

"I apologize for the state of the Great Hall upon your entry. We've all had a busy summer, and if things weren't up to our normal level of excellence, we appreciate the fast actions of our house elves to fix the issues. I hope you will express your gratitude to them when the opportunity appears, and I'm sure we will all enjoy the wonderful dinner they've prepared when it arrives in a few moments." He gave a fixed look at that, implying that whether the students were grateful or NOT, they'd best act it in his presence. Never was a good reason to be rude to those who served.

"As those returning can see, we have a number of new faces up here at the staff table. New faces does not imply naivety, however, and I think you'll find them to be a tough yet fair group. Let's give them the respect they deserve, please. Classes will begin in a few days, and I hope you're looking forward to them." He certainly was, although that was more to the fact that classes gave the students less time to get up to trouble.

"Finally, we have a busy year planned for you, even in addition to classes and homework. I hope you'll keep your eyes on your house bulletin boards and the board in the Entrance Hall for reminders and announcements. Our top point earners from last term should expect their visit to happen in the new few days, so keep an eye out for an owl from the Ministry. And... enjoy your meal!"

He raised a hand in acknowledgment before sliding back into his seat just as the food appeared on each table in the Great Hall. Now see? That was good service.

She might have just found someone who intimidated her more than Professor Lafay.

Really, could Kurumi smack her forehead NOW? She felt utterly ridiculous whenever she spoke to Headmaster Tate and it was not because she was overly intimidated or afraid of him. After all, he had given her five points last term for cleaning up the red X on the fifth floor corridor.

British sense of humor. The forth year still didn't have a handle on registering it. Maybe by the end of this term?

"Thank you, Headmaster," Kurumi said, noticing that it was getting late and he would most likely be giving his speech soon. "I should return to the Gryffindor table and make sure that no first years have tried to use the any of the eating utensils."

Default Lara and her roses too
lives in a hobbit hole || Ern and Touz's Nuzzle || roflysst || looking at a seed packet

Professor Schirmer re-entered the great hall after having gone to the kitchens to talk to and berate the elves. She was pleased to see that they had rectified the grime and tarnish, and even managed to provide the feast finally, but her expression was just a little bit weirded out by the whole thing.

It had been passing strange.

She reseated herself with a frosty nod at the headmaster, an almost-but-not quite smile at Josephina who was to show her this article, and a more friendly smile at Edvard, whom she knew, at least. And someone else had shown up and had taken the seat next to hers.

Althea simply offered a respectful nod and then...

... what was this rose for? She stared at it, noted that there seemed to be one for all the female professors and then, with an expression of disdain, she simply pushed the thing off the table edge.

If she wasn't the only one getting a silly rose, she didn't want it.

Chad had been staring intently at his plate, wistfully wishing that some food would appear, that he missed Kimber's wave towards him.

His gaze was only lifted from the plate when Tate stood up and made the ever so wonderful speech. Then it ended and food suddenly appeared. Hallelujah! Hungry, he started to eat.

Seren was throroughly enjoying talking to Harlow, what a sweet girl! she thought to herself, smiling down at the little snake. Now she would have to make sure her lessons were worthy enough for the students, especially for those like Harlow who were just so enthusiastic and interested in herbology.
"It was a pleasure meeting you too Harlow, I look forward to seeing you again. Enjoy the rest of you're night," she said giving her a little nod of the head. She remembered full well how overwhelming and tiring the start of term feasts were when she was a student. By the end of the night she was just ready to slump into bed, or on the floor or the sofas in the commonroom... whichever was closer and easier to access at the time.

SPOILER!!: Kristin

"She did," she confirmed, as the idea that Talia had told her about how Hogwarts worked was brought up. That was a complete fact, even before she'd graduated and they'd agreed to have her move into the flat in London so she could transfer. "I think I'll do okay." She was good at adapting, at least, especially since she'd been looking forward to this practically since she'd started at Beauxbatons.

It seemed like something had interrupted the conversation, though, so Stella had glanced away to let Professor Bentley have her thoughts.

Pulling herself from her thoughts (which were back at her office where little Caltex was rugged up in his basket), she gave Stella a small nod of the head, "It was a pleasure meeting you Miss Gardiner." Meeting new students was always wonderful, and so exciting. But alas... she was hungry, and there still wasn't any food. This was sad.

But finally, since everything had been cleaned, Seren poured herself another pumpkin juice, hopefully this time there would be no crusty old chicken on her challice. And there wasn't. Good.

SPOILER!!: Sarani

Hades. The place was full of children.

Sitting down next to the Charms professor, she arched an eyebrow as she caught sight of the Gryffindor prefect giving out what looked like cookies. In quite a few colours, at that.

What next, toffees?

Looking up from her challice, she couldn't help but notice the woman that joined the staff table... sitting herself at Fina and Edvards end. She seemed nice. Of course, she would ahve to wait for a proper introduction, now was hardly the time nor the place.

SPOILER!!: Ivory

Oh well wasn't this just precious!
Seren smiled reassuringly at the Ravenclaw Prefect, such lovely manners, and ... a sense of humour?
"Thank you Miss Erised, the gesture is very much appreciated." She gave her a small wink. There was no need to be embarassed.

SPOILER!!: Bentley's favourite flower boy!

Ahh and here he was! Seren had been wondering when she would be seeing him. Josh Carter... Gryffindor, with lovely charming manners. Well.. she liked the flowers, they always brought a smile to her face, and tonight was no exception.

"Thank you Master Carter",
he had good taste in roses, "It's so good to see you again, I trust you enjoyed your summer?" she asked taking up the white rose and smelling its perfume.

SPOILER!!: Tate

"It was a joke, Hollingberry. I take the goodies I can get." Some Gryffindors were clever as a Ravenclaw in their school work but somehow were completely lacking in the good humor or interpersonal sense that was often characteristic of their house mates.

He accepted the cookie. "You're welcome. I hope to hear good things about you in terms to come."

He raised a hand in acknowledgment before sliding back into his seat just as the food appeared on each table in the Great Hall. Now see? That was good service.

And so it was that time again. The infamous Headmasters address. And it didn't disappoint. Tate had that air about him, and watching as the students miraculously fell silent was incredible. Maybe there was a trick to it?

After joining in for the applause at the end, Seren looked down at her plate. And thank Merlin! Food. She was starved, only having realised she skipped lunch. But who needed lunch when you had gardening to do right?

She could hardly wait to start, selecting for herself what appeared to be roast pork, and a selection of oven roast vegetables... now where was the gravy! Finding the gravy boat she took it up and enthusiastically- and perhaps a little too liberally- poured a generous amount of gravy over her meal. Her favourite bit.

..... But maybe that was a mistake? The gravy wasn't right... it... lacked... flavour. Nowhere near as good as the elves usual standard. Sigh.

SPOILER!!: Eino!!!

Needless to say he was more than delighted to see that she was sitting there, and grinning from ear to ear waved at her without thinking twice. He was excited to see the other returning Professors, too, but especially Professor Magnus and Professor Josephina. Sadly, Shaw wasn't there and chances that he would teach this year were very slim, but Eino still had some hope to see him.

He continued to listen and was rather surprised to hear about that Ministry tour that had been mentioned last year. Now he had something else to look forward to, and hopefully he didn't have to wait too long for that. That is, until he remembered who the other students who would be accompanying him were. Sierra Greingoth. He gulped and cautiously looked around the hall but didn't see her anywhere. He couldn't decide whether that made him more or less excited, but it definitely made him nervous. When the headmaster concluded his speech Eino applauded, and waited for the goodies to appear so he could fill his tummy.

After swirling her gravy around her plate... having lost her appetite, Seren looked up to gaze out at the sea of students. Her eyes- as if by instinct- scanned the Ravenclaw table, and caught sight of one of her favourite pupils. Eino. It was good to see him happy, she returned his smile and waved. Even if she wasn't the 'waving type' she would always make an exception for Eino.

The sole indication that Sarani did not miss the fact that the young man was staring at her, was the slightest twitch of her wand hand. When he placed one of the ridiculous white roses in front of her, she picked it up, holding the stem between a thumb and a forefinger, and arched an eyebrow.

"I hope this isn't one of the duplicated roses, Mr. -" What had Bentley just called him? "Carter. I don't find it pleasant when roses I've been given, disappear." She smiled at the Gryffindor. It was not the nicest smile.

"Sarani Glass." Sarani said, the fingers of her left hand resting on the table. "I..." Do not like children. "Teach Defense. What is it that you wanted to ask, Miss Oliver?"

Speech? Excellent. Especially considering that the various amounts of... children had fallen silent. Sarani brought her hands together to express her approval at Tate's declaration that new faces did not imply naivety, before glancing down at the food.

It looked delicious. Spearing a chicken sausage roll with her fork, Sarani took a bite.
