Default Headmaster Tate's Office

The Headmaster's office was a remarkably tidy place. The desk was devoid of the normal office-related hodgepodge, empty of stacks of papers and quill nubs spilling from desk drawers. It was especially odd considering the former occupant of this office.

Spread across the room were a few signs as to the disposition of the man in question. Heavy coffee mugs and steins perched atop one bookshelf, the shelves beneath lined with travel guides, language books, and Dark Magic and defense tomes. A few photographs of the Headmaster and people of varying nationalities sat on a low shelf behind his desk, under the large window that often hung open to the grounds.

The only real oddity in the office, or the only one in plain site, was a foe glass. The contents were murky, although occasionally faces rose to the surface that looked vaguely familiar, but it disappeared before recognition. The Headmaster mostly ignored it.

You absolutely may not enter this office unless given the password or given access by the Headmaster. If you RP yourself here without following instructions, your post will be unceremoniously deleted.

Continuing to make the squashing noise of her water-worn feet with every step while climbing up the archaic stone steps into the Headmasters office, Eris tried her best to comb off any dirty or sand that was left on her body with one free hand, the other clutching the owl-sized gem as though it were a precious infant. With a final sweep of her shoulders, Eris hoped she looked presentable enough. After all, she had only seen the Headmaster once, and that was during the speech when she first arrived at the school.

Though it had only been less than a week since the girl had arrived on the Hogwarts train, she had already been on what she considered an adventure of a lifetime month. Though she was confused to how the whole thing even occured in the first place, the room, the jungle, the aztec village and the boulder. She did know it occured inside the castle, and in such the gem and golden serpent holder that had carefully held it after so long, still remained with the school.

Turning into the headmasters office, the dark haired boy-girl of a witch took a sweep around the room with greyish-blue eyes. Just like she would expect and more, it was filled with all sort of knick knacks and well, things she shouldn't touch.

"Headmaster?" Eris greeted slowly as she looked around the room for him, though standing politely still at the front, now nervously clutching the gem till the knuckles of her fingers turned a pale white.

Sarah whistled softly. What a neat office. And by 'neat' she meant clean. Eek. She hoped she didn't break anything. Or, even worse, leave a fingerprint on something. Oops. Sarcasm meant she got yelled at. Be a good girl, Sarah.

She glanced around the room with interest. She almost felt out of place. Her hair had been messily brushed just that morning, then left to curl slightly around her shoulders, uniform worn with disgust (how she hated skirts), and standing with a boyish posture; hands in her pockets, slouching slightly.

Yup. She was probably the messiest thing in the room. Oopsies.

Eris seemed a tad scared, Sarah stepped closer to her and gave a reassuring smile. She knew Eris had guts (it took a lot of guts to wait for your friend when a boulder was coming right at you), but if needed, Sarah felt she had enough confidence for both of them. She would do the talking if needed.

"Headmaster," she said jovially, smiling roguishly, yet somehow managing to seem respectful.

Tate glanced up at the entrance of one rather soggy Slytherin and one rather sloppy Slytherin into his office. How in the.... Merlin. First years.

"Yes, have a seat. No! No, no... better still. Have a biscuit. Chocolate chip. First official rule of the Headmaster's office is that you cannot sit down without eating a biscuit. They're a specialty of the house elves, and... mostly unburned. Just break off the edges and eat the center. And then you can sit."

Yes, that was perfectly reasonable.

Yuuppppp. Definitely out of place. She could tell, the headmaster noticed. *sigh* why did people always judge her looks first?

Sarah blinked. Was... was that a trick question? Was she seriously allowed to take a biscuit? Or... was he going to take away more points from Slyhterin. Merlin knows, they had already lost enough.

She glanced at Eris. What should she do? Would it be considered rude to take the biscuit, or to not take the biscuit.

Chewing on her lip, she finally reached out a hand and took a biscuit, "Thank you, sir."

Where, oh where had her confidence gone?

Did Eris hear him quite correctly? Have a...biscuit?..........chocolate chip? The girl gave a smile, a bit more confident since Sarah was with her, the Headmaster seemed pretty nice as well, unless this whole biscuit stuff was a trick...

But Eris was never one to turn down a dare...even if this wasn't necessarily a dare.

Reaching out her hand she grabbed one between her fingers, and as he instructed broke off the edges and took a bite. Mmmmm The house elves sure did a good job, then again, the girl hadn't eaten in what seemed like forever so she could probably digest a paperclip happily. Looking down at the burnt pieces hungrily in her hand, Eris wondered if she could eat them too, but seeing she was still in the presence of the headmaster, kept them in her palm for later.

"Excuse me...." Eris began taking a seat, unsure really how to begin talking about the gem the size of a barn owl that was now nestled in her lap, nor the wrapping. "We um..." she motioned her head to the gem, "Well...we went into this strange room...and found this with a golden snake wrapped around it...." she nodded her head to the object Sarah was holding. "...and well...a boulder chased us out of the room while they were in our hands...so we decided it was best to bring them to you..."

Eris glanced towards Sarah to see if she was missing anything important from the story.

Sarah nodded her head along with what Eris was saying. It had been short and simple. Perfect. Now, it was only a matter of the headmaster believing them. Well, what did he suppose the giant gem and golden snake thing were? Chocolate in aluminum foil?

"Basically," she said, deciding to add a little bit to it, "we stumbled upon this weird room. There was a jungle in it, or... whatever. We found a cave with these-" she nodded to the artifacts, "-in it. Just as we got to them, a giant rock came out of, like, nowhere. It chased us out and she," here she nodded to Eris, "figured that these were school property, and that it would be the right thing to do, to return it to the school."

Then it hit her, they hadn't introduced themselves.

"Oh, and I'm Sarah Oliver, and she's Eris." she smiled, less mischievous than the one she had first given him.

Hmm. They'd been chased out of a room by a boulder? A jungle room? Hehe. Tate's eyes sparkled a bit in amusement, but he leaned forward and regarded the girls with the utmost sincerity. If one wasn't familiar with the castle, he was certain it could be intimidating.

"Yes, of course. Just sit down and be comfortable. You've already eaten the biscuit." Should he offer them tea? He really ought to be more hospitable, but it wasn't like he was particularly good at it. Sigh. Whatever. Moving on.

"So you found this room. Let me ask you something... do you know what floor you were on when you found this strange room?"

"That would be the seventh floor Headmaster...I believe..." The little boy-girl of a witch replied, passing a hand through her rather short dark hair. Giving a quick breath in and out she offered a smile, relaxing a little more into the chair, but still not feeling able to loosen the grip on the gem in fear it might fall and crack the second she allowed it.

Thinking back on her answer though, Eris couldn't be too sure, it sort of just, well, showed up. There was a wall, and then a door. The rest just feel into place.

Sarah paused, was that... amusement? Well, at least it meant he was a friendly.

"Yeah," she said after a moment of thought, "I'm pretty sure it was the seventh floor. Why?" she asked suspiciously, "Do you know about the room?"

She assumed that since he was the headmaster... wait. Headmaster? Yes... she remembered this guy. The one who had told Professor Glass not to put her in therapy. Haha.

She held in a snicker. Ah, there was her confidence. Right where she'd left it.

"Seventh floor," Tate nodded slowly. All the pieces fit together. "I don't suppose you can think back to the moments before you found the door to this room? What were you thinking or talking about? Were you worrying or wishing for anything in particular?"

"Yes actually....." Eris looked at Sarah who had asked the same question not too long ago. "We were...." the small witch gave a pause, wow, she didn't even know how to say this without sounding like a huge dork.

"Well you see....we were....pretending to be adventurers....so erm...that was what I was thinking....exploring, con-questing-" the tomboy decided to stop while she was ahead.

The first year couldn't help but show an embarrassed grin at her childish antics.

"You ladies happen to be lucky enough to stumble upon the one place in the school that such a wild wish would come absolutely true. I believe you found the Room of Requirement, or the Come-and-Go-Room. It gives you exactly what you want, no more and no less, if you know how to trigger it to open. I suspect that your searching for an adventure prompted it to give you that adventure." And was there ever a more clever way to use that room? Perhaps not... nothing truly selfish in it, but it gave them what they desired without equivocation.

"And... you brought me the spoils of war, did you?" He gestured at the burden they carried.

Sarah nodded slowly, smiling, "I suppose you could say that."

Her calm exterior was greatly constrasted by her highly amused and excited interior. So, they truly had found adventure. Oh what luck! Come to think of it, the room of requirement would come in handy for the HQ she had been dreaming up.

She glanced at Eris out of the corner of her eye, was she thinking what she was thinking? She grinned mischievously, this was something she'd be bringing up. Yesss....

Eris eyes widened, Room of Requirement?

So, there could be such a room that would exist to fulfill anyone's needs? Such as if they were hungry...give them food...or if they wanted piles of money...let them roll in it? The thought seemed out of this world but none the less absolutely delightful. Then again, looking back on it, when they needed light in the cave, the torches just happened to light up for them when they were unseen before. More than that once instance actually, had it seemed the room helped the to point of escaping from it.

"It would be nice to find again...." Eris let out of her mouth before realizing she said it, and then quickly turning toward the object in question. "Erm...yes headmaster..."

Eris lifted the rather heavy gem onto the desk, careful not to let it clatter. "You can kind of blame this for the boulder I would think...came the second we lifted it off the alter."

Boulder...alter..., Eris could hardly believe the words were coming out of her mouth as crazy as they were.

Suddenly her stomach gave a growl as she looked hungrily towards the biscuits. No. She would not. It would- No. Just No-

"Headmaster........Can I have another biscuit?" she asked, as it seemed her stomach won against her brain.

Sarah chuckled. Oh, Eris... But she really couldn't blame her. Those biscuits were good. Those 'house elves' really knew their stuff. Yup.

Sarah nodded, she thought it would be nice to visit the room again as well, in fact. She was tempted to visit right after she was done in the office. Maybe she could figure out how to avoid wearing a skirt while not seeming like she wasn't. This... Room of Requirement seemed like just the place to do that. In fact, it seemed like 'just the place' to do just about anything.

Sarah shifted her grip on the golden snake, hefting it up for the headmaster to see like Eris had done, "What do we do with them?" she asked.

Maybe they were chocolate wrapped in foil. Mmmmm. Chocolate.

"You might not be able to find it again, not if you don't have a genuine need to find it," Tate shrugged. Sad to say, but they were unlikely to be able to replicate their adventures after being at Hogwarts for a little while. Real life was enough of an adventure.

"By all means. Take as many biscuits as you'd like." He waved a hand at the plate.

"I would think the Room was trying to give you a gift, some treasure to remember your adventure by. You're welcome to keep them, although I doubt they have any intrinsic value. Plenty of emotional value, though, right?" He admired the 'treasures' they'd managed to win from the Room. Exotic stuff. At least one of them was an avid reader.

Sarah resisted the urge to pout like a spoiled little girl. She wanted to be able to use the Room of Requirement whenever, not just when she had a 'genuine need' for it. Bah. Well, she'd have to find a way around it, right? Hmm, maybe not. There must be plenty of other places to do stuff, the Room of Requirement was only one of them.

"Ooh, Eris! We get to keep them!" Sarah squealed.

She started to hug the golden snake until it poked her in the stomach and she lessened her grip. The snake certainly reflected her house pride.

... Because Slytherins' are just that awesome. We Snakes are the best EVAR. Don't deny it.

The room giving her a gift?

Well if this couldn't make the grin on Eris' face truly grow from ear to ear, then nothing else would.

"Thanks Headmaster!" Eris grinned as she took a bite out of another biscuit. "I'm not sure how to bake or cook yet...but Ill be sure to return the favor about these" she added nodding her head in the direction of the plate. Sure, she could make cereal, but it was only time till she could make cookies or something, right?

Now the only question lay it what their peers thought of them coming back in a mess and with treasure...well...if they even believed the story.

She glanced towards Sarah with a 'ready-to-go?' look before standing up from her seat.

"They're from the house elves, so you can just repay the favor by thanking them the next time you run into one," Tate offered helpfully. He wasn't taking credit for baked goods, burned or not.

"If that's all, young ladies, you're welcome to go."

Eris gave a nod, "I will Professor! See you around!" she added with a happy grin, well of course by see you again she hoped it wouldn't be trouble....as that was usual what a call to the headmaster's office meant.

With that Eris gave a small curtsie before exiting the office.

Hogwarts was so cool!

"Thanks sir," Sarah said, standing up and smiling crookedly.

She smirked as Eris curtsied, "I never classified you as the type to curtsy," she whispered teasingly to her friend as they exited the room. She hoped Eris wouldn't take it the wrong way. She always felt bad when she was only joking and they thought it was an insult.

Kurumi made her way up the long spiral staircase until she reached the great door to the Headmaster's office. She swallowed for a moment before she reached out and knocked gently on the door. This was the first time she was coming here...minus the time she had traveled by floo powder and THAT hadn't been on the best of terms. She was pretty sure that Headmaster Tate was mad at her for something that day, but she wasn't entirely sure. All she had been asking about was where Mr. Ikenna was.

Where had he gone? Best to not bring that up again. Nope.

*knock knock*

"Kurumi Hollingberry, sir," she said in a timid voice as she opened up the door with her right hand. Her left hand was still cupping a small package.

"Gryffindors," Tate nodded, gesturing at the seat across from his desk. "Did the gargoyle menace you a bit? I'm sorry about that. Not sorry, really, because I like the chappy, but..."

Shrug.

"I know it's an insult to your palate, but you have to have one of the house elves' burnt biscuits. Office rules, you know. Must have biscuits. Makes them feel better."

Kurumi was a bit startled by being called a Gryffindor instead of her name, but she wasn't going to comment on that. "Not really," she said shaking her head. "I didn't know that it could menace people actually." And now she was a bit disappointed that it hadn't! Did it have a name? Was it enchanted by the Headmaster himself?

"I wouldn't call it an insult," she said shaking her head as she reached over and picked up one of the less charred looking biscuits. Office rules? Professor certainly were making a lot of strange rules this term. The Headmaster hadn't had biscuits in his office the previous term, right? Kurumi took a small nibble and tried her best not to wrinkle her nose at the flavor. "Actually, it was the house elves that I wanted to come and talk to you about," Kurumi continued as she forced herself to swallow the rest of the biscuits. "And I actually brought you something..." She held out a small parcel for the Headmaster. Hopefully there was no random rule against oatmeal cookies in his office. "I know you said that you were only joking, but I managed to transfigure a very simple oven in the Transfiguration practice room and these were one of my few successful attempts to bake."
