The DADA classroom is done in subtle shades of cream and brown. The chairs, set in neat concentric semi-circles, are the revolving, fixed-to-the-floor kind; and there is a fair gap between any two chairs. There is a whiteboard at the front of the classroom and, to its left, a neat little table that looks like it's made of glass.
Come in and take a seat. Professor Glass is not in the classroom, but she will be here in a few minutes.

"Welcome to the Defense Against the Dark Arts course. I'm Sarani Glass, and I will be your Defense Against the Dark Arts professor. If you could all take turns to tell me your names, years and, if you've chosen to pursue Defense at NEWT level, the reason you've decided to do so."

Fee just sat at her table and listened to the teacher.Why did they have to get new ones every term?Well for DADA it was good.Last term there wasnt really a DADA session and that had been terrible.Seriously.
Nodding to herself the blonde held up her hand and smiled at the professor."Feenella Schwarzberg,Fourth year",she said taking her hand back down.It was a little bit early to know if she chose DADA to be in her Newts.Next term would be her OWLS,that was exciting enough.
To be honest the Slytherin had high expectations for this lesson,hopfully she wouldnt be disappointed.At least there were lessons.

Kurumi shot William a look of utter shock. Was he REALLY bringing this up in class right NOW? Kurumi's eyes widened and her head turned to look at Professor Harpy.
Great...another what? 50 points from Gryffindor for talking out of turn? The middle of classes was NOT the place to bring something like this up in conversation, especially when the professor was present and had already given them a task to do.
Should she apologize to the professor? Respond to William? The latter seemed like a way for her to earn a one way ticket to detention and she was really not wanting that - especially with this woman.
She decided to go for something neutral. She shook her head and narrowed her eyes for a moment, hopefully that would send the signal that NOW was not the time and place to talk about this. She then held her index finger up against her lips in a 'shush' manner, but didn't make a sound. She then turned her head towards the professor and bowed it in apology.
Not speaking unless spoken to. That was going to be her policy in this class.

William decides to be silent After all Kurumi is the Gryffindor female prefect. Hopefully the prefects still will have the meeting. If not, Willaim will be confused but accept it anyway with a grain of salt.

Samara smiled seeing the instructor head into the room and smiled at the question raising her hand. "Hello professor. Samara Choi, third year. I'm not yet ready for NEWT level but when the time comes, I hope to pursue it." She glanced around the class listening as other students spoke trying to remember names and faces.

Fallon couldn't help but wince at the strictness of the teacher. 30 points and detention? At least it wasn't Ravenclaw... However, if Professor Glass taught her subject well, she couldn't careless if she handed out a thousand detentions. Unless she gives one to me of course.. But Fallon DID NOT intend to disrupt class or do anything else that would incure the professor's wrath..she would just have to save her jokes for some other professor, one who would appreciate her thoughtfulness in bringing humor into the classroom.
Were they supposed to answer the N.E.W.T. question if they weren't old enough to take them? Probably not...With a shrug she raised her hand and introduced herself, "Fallon Murray, first year." There, direct and to the point. Hopefully the professor would appreciate it.

After watching many of the other people take their turns it was finally Elsie's. After a deep breath, she cleared her throat. "I am Elsie Orva, First Year. This is my first Defense Against the Dark Arts class so I don't know yet if I will take them at NEWT level. I like to think I would because this has been the class I have been most excited for, everyone seems to love it." She remembered when asking the older students what their favourite class was, nearly all of them said this one.
I Can Accept Failure. But I Can't Accept Not Trying
Jordan waited anxiously for his turn to talk. He was quite nervous, seeing that this was actually his first Defense Against The Dark Arts Class. After he realized it was his turn, he took a deep breathe, slipped a mint, and began talking, and hopefully they didn't mistake him for a Fifth Year, seeing that he was 5'11" and only a Second Year. "Hello, my name is Jordan Kobe, and I am a Second Year. I would definitely like Defense Against The Dark Arts at the NEWT Level, and hopefully pursue a career of it out of School." After speaking, which he thought was a decent little speech, he sat down, and continued to listen to his classmates.
Megan waited until her turn to speak. "I'm Megan Dalegra, first year. I would love to take Defence Against the Dark Arts at NEWT level. I think that I could really learn a lot of important things from it." Megan smiled and looked to the next person

Shaking off the grimace that Slytherin had lost yet, another amount of points, the small little boy-girl of a witch waited till it was her turn to introduce herself.
"Hello!, My name is Eris Ashwin." the short tomboy jabbed a thumb towards herself childishly as she spoke, "I'm a first year." she added taking back her seat, as she didn't even know what a NEWT level actually was yet.

As Elizabeth sat in D.A.D.A she keep thinking Wow this is really stupid. I can learn all of this and MORE from my mummy and daddy. Funny thing is she did learn most of this when she was little from her mum and dad before they were taken away. She also learned things way more advance.

Valerie couldn't help but let out a quiet gasp as Professor Glass entered the room. Immediately, the image of a big black scary dragon came to mind. Black robes, and spiked heels. Like big black wings and intimidating claws. Valerie was terrified of this woman before she had even heard her speak.
Terror quickly turned to anger as Professor Glass docked 30 points from Gryffindor. 30 points! Then Professor Glass decided to face the class again and Valerie went back to being terrified. This was not a good start to the class. She'd been so excited for Defense Against the Dark Arts but it seemed like Valerie would be too busy being very intimidated of her professor to actually pay attention.
Valerie visibly paled when Professor Glass asked the class to introduce themselves and say whether they were taking the class at newt level. Valerie had no idea what to say, weren't newts animals? Valerie forced herself to take a few deep breaths. This was stupid, she would have no reason to be terrified of Professor Glass if she just made a decent first impression. Which meant no shaking or stuttering or anything of the like. It didn't seem like Professor Glass would tolerate that sort of thing.
So when it got to her turn to speak, Valerie faced Professor Glass with a slight frown and a defiant jut of her chin.
"I'm Valerie Aimée Knight. First year." Valerie almost let out a loud 'YES' as she realised she got the words out in a clear even tone.
Unfortunately, the same couldn't be said for the rest of her introduction. "I-I I don't know. Um, w-what do you mean by newts, e-exactly?" She hoped she wouldn't get points taken away for not knowing.
" My name's Justin Wellheart. First year. And to be honest I've never given it a bit of thought really. I'm waitin' to see what I enjoy most. " Justin stated matter of factly.
Cora sat nervously in the back of the room. She knew DADA would be a difficult class, and She already thought she would not be good at it. It seemed, well, scary.
No one had noticed the small curly haired girl in the back. As Cora sat nervously twirling her hair, she listened as other students introduced themselves. She was glAd to be in the back. Surely no one would notice her. Suddenly she noticed the professor's eyes on her and her heart dropped. She swallowed hard and whispered shyly, "h-hello professor. I'm Cora Clearwater and im a first year. I dont think I will be taking this at the newt level, since I'm only a first year." Cora said shakily. She trembled slightly, staring up at the professor. to be honest Cora didnt even really know what newt level meant but she was too concerned to ask.

Why? Why were they supposed to introduce themselves? That was weird. Isobel didn't care though, she liked weird things. Hence her choice in friends.
...Don't tell them she said that.
Isobel raised her hand. She wasn't sure if they were supposed to, but she did anyway. "I am Isobel VonHue." Eye-so-bell, not Isabelle. Humph. "I am a fifth year and I will probably continue with Defense Against the Dark Arts at NEWT level because I think it's useful. I also find it fascinating." Even if her future career choice did not require it, it was information everyone should know.

Jackie stood up. 'I'm Jacqueline Maryellen Elizabeth Porter.' What were her parents thinking when they named her? Such a long name! 'I prefer Jackie, though.' She smiled, hoping she wasn't rude. 'I'm a first year, Professor.' And hopefully a good one. DADA seemed like fun, though. She loved the idea of defense. Not that she actually thought she would be needing any defense against anything. But the thought fascinated her. She sat down, looking around for the next person to introduce himself/herself.
Harvey was glad that he had not lost anymore points and that he was following instructions. Harvey stood up and introduced himself. "Hi Professor Glass, My name is Harvey Watson and I am in my first year. I don't know what NEWT level is so I can't answer that question, I don't know as I am what you may call muggle-born. So this week is my first magical experience" After Harvey was over with his introduction he sat down, hoping that he could impress his professors from now on and not lose anymore points.

Seriously? This was the first thing she had to say right after stepping into the classroom? No to mention that reaction with the exact words originally belonged to Professor Lafay.
And this was totally unfair!!! He had not done anything wrong, had he? The girls made him wear the heels and he did. Wearing heels was not forbidden, right? Who was this woman who knew nothing about justice?
To see, then, while keeping an arm on Evelyn so he could manage his balance, he turned around to see who that was....

Feeling Evelyn move made the Gryffindor remember that he needed to sit down and maybe it could remind him the shiny thing on her too but he did not seem to remember it yet as not there were too many toughts in his mind that kept it rather busy. Or to be exact...he was confused. Following the Slytherin girl's moves, eh she did not look happy either, Josh sat down next to her and took a deep breath of relief when almost half of the pain on his feet was gone.
Then he carefully listened to her words and...looked up at the professor again. Was it his turn? ''My name is Joshua Carter.'' as you very well know since you can yell out detentions''Seventh Year. Gryffindor.'' Was not that obvious as well? *Ahem*. ''And yes, i plan to take NEWT level Defense and most likely more than that because...'' Eh. He had to pause at that point because now for some reason he had started to doubt if he wanted to pursue that career. Had Professor Lafay been serious? Him being an Auror? He was never going to know. He always had one reason though, if he was not going to mention that one. ''...because i will always be protecting my girlfriend no matter what.''
She felt for his girlfriend, alright.
"And you intend to do that by turning up to my class in heels?" Sarani's voice was cold. If someone could defend themselves in heels, fine and dandy. If someone turned up to learn defense in footwear he or she couldn't even walk in, however, Sarani was not going to be impressed.
"Take off those heels, Mr. Carter." If he was serious about learning defense, he'd better start acting like he was. Sarani had no place for people who did not want to learn, in her classroom.

Oh dear... not another class discussion about THIS mess? Lexi groaned INWARDLY and raised her hand. "Professor, since the majority of magic is indeed intent I believe it could be argued that even those things deemed to be DARK could also be used in LIGHT situations. To answer another of your questions, I do not believe there is a rigid definition, no. There is too much of a grey area so to speak," she said evenly.
Yes...it was a far cry from her stance on this subject a few terms ago, but then again a LOT of things had changed between now and then. One person in her life was not the Lightest wizard she had ever met and he had definitely changed her mind on a lot of things.

Oooh. Dark Arts. Picking up her quill, Indiana wrote that at the time of her page, ready to write note. She wanted to make sure that she would have lots of notes that she would be able to use during her exams, and stuff. Thay way she wouldn't have to trawl through a ton of books at the time. Indiana smiled, looking up at the professor, and trying to decide what dark arts are hmm. The raised her hand and smiled. "Dark arts are bad." Well that was pretty obvious really. Dark things were never going to be good. She might have been a first year, but she wasn't that stupid. "Bad people do it, but maybe they do it because poeple aren't doing what they want to do." So they grabbed attention? Or something like that.
Indiana smiled, trying to think of something that she could say to elaborate this a bit more. She thought, before speaking again. "I don't think there is really a rigid defintion of what the dark arts is though, because people might have different views on what it is...and how bad it is."

Hugo raised his hand. "I don't think there is a fine line between the dark arts and regular magic. For example, hexes, jinxes and curses are considered dark magic, though these can be used for self protection too. I think what makes certain things "dark" is the intention. What goal do you want to reach by using it? It makes a lot of difference, to me at least," he told the professor and the class.
