Not to far from the classroom where Arithmancy lessons are held, there is a room that looks like it has not been used properly for sixty years – or 17 years, when Professor Fox taught the subject. It has been cleaned up nicely, however, with all the dust gone, books and other objects placed neatly on the bookshelves located at the back wall of the room. The walls have been painted a lovely salmon color, with small white jasmines in a line around the middle of each wall.
The bookshelves contain various numerological texts, from specifics about a number to about calculating the map of your future, as well as several abacuses on one shelf to be used as counting aids. Please note, some of the books might be quite old, but they are well cared for, so should any harm come to them, then the price to pay will be heavy.
There is a large blackboard at the front of the room, which is charmed to write coded messages on it every once and awhile. You'll need to use your knowledge of cryptic messages, however, to translate it into English. Lining one wall is a row of windows, overlooking the Quidditch Pitch, and the opposite wall has smaller boards in which students may write out their calculations and teach each other, if desired.
The chamber may be used by students for puzzle solving and extra time to study the art of Arithmancy; all the books and tools that you should need could be found along the bookshelves. However, on the off chance that it is not there, Professor Hadley's office is right next door, so feel free to ask her for materials you may desire. All students using this room are expected to follow the honor system, and any abuse or inappropriate use of the classroom will result in immediate loss of house points and/or detention.
Rather than desks, there are several wooden tables scattered about the room in no particular arrangement with four or five chairs surrounding each table. This creates the perfect environment to bring a buddy or two to work out some difficult calculations and compare notes. You are encouraged to work with others, but do remember that cheating is NOT permitted and shall result in no house points and/or possible loss of points. There are also two [purple] armchairs located in the far corners of the room which are perfect for snuggling up with a good book or working out some homework questions.
Just remember again, Hadley's office is right next door, so keep your voices down unless of course you require her assistance.
OOC: You are welcome to use this thread as a free roleplay area, but just be warned that Hadley may stop in at any given moment... so don't be doing anything you don't want her to know about. Feel free to use this to study and enhance your Arithmancy studies as well; please indicate in the title of your post if you require Professor Hadley's attention. Just remember that white jasmine is one of the flowers for the number two, which is about harmony and connecting; of which, you are all connecting your futures here at Hogwarts. And of course, all SS rules and Arithmancy-specific rules apply, always.
The door swung open and the girl entered the room quickly, and then stopped and looked around. Realizing there was no one there, the young Ravenclaw smirked and picked a random seat, close to the table. Taking a deep breath, Gwendolyn walked quickly there and finally took a seat, ready to start.
THUD!
Yeah… the sound of one humongous notebook being placed ‘gently’ on the table. Meh… I didn’t disturb anyone, anyway, she thought. Let’s see what I should start with, she told herself while flipping the pages of the book slowly, until finally finding a page without drawing, potions notes or other things. Gwendolyn began writing the title:
My life. My numbers. My problem.
Full name: Gwendolyn H. Greene DOB: 7th of November , 2062
Glimpsing at what she had just written, the second year hoped Ari would never ever find this notebook and find out the first letter of her middle name. Ugh… this has to remain a secret! Why do I have such a horrible middle name, huh?, she asked herself, ready to write a complaint letter to her parents.
Right- I should start with the Core, she decided. Taking the quill, Gwen started calculating.
Meaning: A number 1 person has a purpose and is impatient for results! They meet challenges with courage and self-reliance, and usually with strong opinions. They are determined, they take the iniative, and they like to have their own way.
Totally true!, she smirked and decided to go on.
2.Expression/Destiny Number
Gulp. I need my middle name here. UGH!!!!! No! Making the calculations quickly in her head, she erased her middle in a hurry, as if someone could have possibly seen it.
GWENDOLYN H. GREENE
7+5+5+5+4+6+3+7= 42= 6
8+1+9+9+9+5+2= 43= 7
7+9+5+5+5+5= 36= 9
6+7+9= 22 (4)
Wow- first time I ever get 22!!! Eh- what does it mean?, Gwendolyn asked herself, searching for something in one of the books.
Positive Traits : The key word for the number 22 is that of master builder. This is a very hard number to fully live up to because it is capable of such great accomplishment. Thus, the reference to master builder. The 22 possesses unique qualities and often very unorthodox approaches to problem solving. When the 22 Expression operates within you in a positive vein, you are endowed with the most practical approach, but this practical or material sense is tempered with an awareness of non-material forces. Once inside the laboratory from her office, Josephina nodded satisfactorily that the room was empty and flicked her wand toward the main entrance to the lab, where a sign now hung, "Laboratory temporarily closed. Please check back in thirty minutes."
She hoped this talk with Lafay wouldn't take thirty minutes, but it would give them time.
Turning toward the Potions Mistress, she slid her wand back into its holster and smiled casually.
"So Hecate. What can I do for you now?"
This room was sufficient, was it not?

Following the woman to the Arithmancy lab she looked around the room... Hecate had been rubbish at Arithmancy, so she dropped the class after the second lesson. No need to bring down her grades if the subject was rubbish.
"Hadley, two of my students have approached me and mentioned they feel Hufflepuff house is trying to undermine the snakes by making an effort to get them in trouble. It would be..." she stopped and closed her eyes a moment to find the right words, "very upsetting to me if they were setting out to do so. I was wondering if you had heard... of any rumors in this regard?"

Waiting for her to get acclimated to the new situation, it didn't seem to take long. Unlike the students who came to visit her, Hecate went straight to the point.
But .... what!? WHY would students in her house be trying to get Snakes into trouble? "I've heard nothing of the sort." Truth. "And besides, He- Lafay, last I checked Slytherin students seem to have no problems finding trouble on their own. They wouldn't need any help from Hufflepuff students. Regardless of that, Hufflepuff students are notoriously the friendliest kids. I don't think you should be worrying about them." Honestly. Her house was the cunning students; wouldn't they be the ones more likely to undermine the badgers?

"You obviously have not checked recently." She said calmly, "My house has not been finding trouble, Hadley." She said narrowing her eyes. "Infact, I do believe they are the leaders in the house point race." She said not mentioning the Hufflepuffs were the bottom house. No need to rub salt in the wound. "And don't give me that stuff about Hufflepuffs being the friendliest house. There are friendly people in all houses... they are the most loyal though... One of my students mentioned she believed they were trying to knock Slytherin off of our lead position, just so we couldn't win all three cups." She said, "However if you say you've heard nothing of the sort, I believe you. If you do hear anything... I would expect you to inform me. Thank You." And she went to turn around to leave this... lab.

Fina stared. What did Slytherins being leaders in the house points race prove to them not finding trouble? That just meant there were a lot of Slytherins doing their homework. "The house points race says nothing for trouble," she stated nonchalantly. "And if that's the case, about Hufflepuffs trying to knock Slytherins off the lead position. Well, I have no idea why considering last I checked, it wouldn't affect my house anyway." No. Quidditch was what mattered to her Puffs. Surely Hecate realized that by now. "Besides, while the house cup is nice, what is it anyway? Material things. Bragging rights? There are more important things." Like friendship and loyalty and other stuff that Slytherin House tended to care little about. "But yes, I shall do that... inform you, if I hear of any sort of ... misconduct in regards to the House Points Race." Not. But if it made Hecate happy to hear her say such a thing, she would.

Hecate stopped and turned around, her face contorted into a smile. "Spoken like a true Hufflepuff." She said and turned around making her way out "Good Day Professor." and closed the door.
Since it was on the same floor, it slipped into a room thing. Maybe it could hide a bit here, so as not to get caught by anyone.
Feeling rather tired, its little arms tensed from having to carry things for so long, it flopped to the floor and curled into a ball. The view was good from down here, and it saw books! smart people read those!
Having rested for a few minutes, it felt a little re-energised. Could it have more fun now? Oh yes it could.
Skipping over to one of the book shelves, it pulled out a thick and old looking volume from somewhere down the bottom. Simply because it was easier to reach. Flopping back down on the floor, it opened the cover and stared at the funny looking shapes inside. It couldn't read them, but it pretended it could. Then maybe it could be smart too.
After turning a lot of pages, it started getting bored again. Smart people must be very bored people, with all their boring books. Nope.
It went to close the book when it accidently tore out a page. The ripping noise filled the room, and made it excited! That sounded fun. It opened up the book again and inspected the torn out page. Then it took hold of another page, and gave it a good tug. RIP. Oohhhh fun! RIP. RIP.
It continued to rip pages until soon the whole book lay on the floor beside it. The cover was pretty and smart looking though, so it would keep it.
Now that it was rested and it had a new toy, it gathered the other things, the teddy, the metal box and the photo frame, and left the room. Peering around the corner of the door before sneaking off.

Kurumi followed Professor Hadley as the woman dashed out of her office, robes bellowing behind her as she scampered as quickly as her short fourth year legs could carry her. "Professor, what do you think is going....OH MY STARS!"
Kurumi's jaw dropped when she saw paper fluttering all over the place. Torn pages! Who would dare to tear a book apart like that. Furthermore, who would tear a book apart and keep the cover and binding? That was the more peculiar thing on the Gryffindor's mind. Like...a pack rat or something. Were there wizarding versions of pack rats? Kurumi wasn't sure that she had come across them in her reading of magical creatures.
Slowly, Kurumi knelt down and picked up some of the pages from the book. Judging from the state of the torn pages, it looked as though it had been one of the older books in Professor Hadley's collection...which made the crime even worse.
"The cover...is missing..." she said, stating the obvious. "Who would want to take the cover of a book?" The best part of it was all over the floor. Whoever it was one thing was sure, they were not a Ravenclaw. Ravenclaws may tear the cover off and take the inside though.

Josephina didn't really know what to expect when she entered the laboratory. But this .... was just .... shocking. She stared, speechless for a moment before approaching the bookshelf. Her photo... gone ... her books...
Oh. What book was it? She just plopped down in the mess and rummaged through to find the title page... her mind completely forgotten that she'd left a student in her office. "One of my favorites... it was signed and everything!" the brunette flailed her arms and then pouted. She was so not being mature about this, but her BOOK! Destroyed! Her picture with her family.... gone!
Sighhh...

Kurumi had never seen a professor plop before, so that image itself was enough to sort of lighten the mood...until she saw the look of utter shock on the Professor Hadley's face. Then things didn't seem so amusing. However, then she began flailing and pouting and the situation returned to being somewhat amusing.
"I think...we might be able to at least put it somewhat back together, professor," Kurumi offered as she bent down and picked up more pages, attempting to assemble the pages in some sort of order. "Is there...anything else missing?" You know, besides the cover of the book. Admittedly, she had never been in here before so she had no idea what it looked like before.
