Default The Hufflepuff Herald

Welcome to the student driven notice board, just especially for Hufflepuffs: The Hufflepuff Herald! The Herald is a notice board that is updated on a regular basis containing any and all information from the date and time of Quidditch tryouts/practices, classes going on in the school, homework, etc. By keeping you informed, it offers us the chance to gain the most house points in a term!

However, posting in here is restricted to the Hufflepuff Prefects and Quidditch Captain ONLY. If you wish to submit something for the Herald, then you must PM one of them or your Head of House. This is the 17th of the Herald and your current editors are Cedric Leone (Wenzlebug), Wesley Reagan (imaginarynumb3rs) and Melanie Lockhart (Lindzers).

Fall of 2073 (IC-wise)

Welcome to Hufflepuff!

We would like to give our newest additions to Hufflepuff a warm welcome and hope you're enjoying yourselves so far! Congratulations on being sorted into our house of gold and black, we hope you're loving it and if not we assure you Hufflepuff and all its members will grow on you before you realize it.

Welcome back to the older students as well, please make sure to try setting a good example not only for the first years but on how a true Hufflepuff should present our house. In other words Hogwarts is not a zoo, refrain from acting like monkeys outside of the privacy of the common room lounge.

With the Triwizard Tournament’s conclusion last term, Quidditch will resume same as usual this school year. Keep a look out for Tryouts on the bulletin board if you’re interested and be sure to cheer on our Badgers at their matches (to be announced)!

Additionally, Mr. Ikenna Gevrik, Special Security Liaison to the School through the Ministry of Magic, is spending the year with us. Please try your best to make him feel welcomed.

This being said, have a wonderful (and safe) term, everyone!

The Herald's History

The Hufflepuff Herald is your number one source of information concerning everything school-related. This is the 17th edition of the Herald, which has switched hands several times: Nabiya MacPherson, Raymond Luxury-Yacht, Evy Abagnale, Evan Cassels, Evzen Ferez, Caitlin White, Amelia Rose, Savannah Mae, Seth Paton, Kayla Winters, Vanessa Corbette, Dominic Denton, Tamzin Wood, Kaika Lockhart, Torin Kane, Miranda BelCanto, Sarah Griffin, and Lorelai Bristol have all been editors of the Herald. Your current editors are Cedric Leone (Wenzlebug), Wesley Reagan (imaginarynumb3rs), and Melanie Lockhart (Lindzers).

(OOC) F.A.Q.

Where can I find my member number?
You can find your member number by clicking on your username to view your profile, and then by looking at the number at the end of the link. For example, mine (imaginarynumb3rs’) would be 97404.

What year are we supposed to be in?
It's currently the year of 2073-74, term 27.

Do I have to do the homework and attend classes?
No, it is not mandatory. However, if you want to earn house points for Hufflepuff, completing homework and participating in the classes is the best way to do it.

What does OOC mean?
OOC means ''Out Of Character'', while IC means ''In Character''.

How can I get involved in the school story? I feel so out of everything.
There are so many ways to get your character involved in the RPG! The best ways are having them join the Quidditch team, participate in the classes, and meet other students! Also, if you're confused about what's going on in the school's plot line, take a look at Hogwarts, A History; it should help answer a lot of your questions.

Is there a Head Boy and Girl? Are there Prefects?
Indeed there is! They are Kellen Stern (Ashwinder) and Trixie Malfoy (feltbeatslover22) and can be identified by a Head Boy and Girl Tag, respectively, under their usernames.
In addition, there are still two Prefects for each house, and they will be designated by a Prefect's Badge under their username.

If you have any other questions feel free to PM myself, Wenz (Wenzlebug), Lindsey (Lindzers) or our lovely HoH, Colley (Colley ♥). You can also go to Question Thread as well.

Classroom Tips

1. Respect your teachers and classmates.
2. If you come online while the class is already going on, do not announce that you are late. Simply act like your character’s been there the whole time, otherwise teachers will deduct points from our house.
3. If you’ve got to leave before the end of the lesson, do not announce it.
4. Unnecessary chatting in the classroom will not be tolerated.
5. Keep OOC comments to a minimum.
6. When the teacher asks a question, feel free to raise your hand and offer an answer. The quickest answers as well as the most creative answers can be rewarded with house points.
7. Please be patient if the professor doesn’t answer you straight away. We all live in different timezones and have other responsibilities in real life, so it is possible the teacher had to leave for a few minutes/hours.
8. Be creative and have fun!

Worth: 10 points

Extras

Hogwarts Grounds: Our dear Groundskeeper Stryker has a lot on his mind lately. Make sure to keep an eye on these hot spots for any volunteers he might be looking to lend a hand or two or four in doing some light chores around the grounds.
The Student Gardens: Professor Mugwort likes the student gardens well maintained. Have a knack for Herbology? Then why not offer your assistance in helping to ensure the plants are well nourished?
Hogwarts Library: Perhaps you are one who enjoys the books and spends way too much time inside reading/studying? If this is you, then try offering out your assistance to re-shelving/organizing books to Madame Donovan.
Animal Collective: Have no qualms of dealing with animals? Then the Animal Collective is the best place for you. Twenty different animals roaming free in an enclosure, that is quite a big number, isn't it? Professor Saylen could really use some apt, kind volunteers.

Find anyplace else that you think would be good to add to this 'extra' list for Badgers to know? Please send a PM to one (or both) of your House Prefects, or Quidditch Captain.

Quidditch

Keep in mind that these are subject to change or be canceled at any time. If you are tryout out, DO NOT forget to PM Captain Lockhart the questionnaire if you intend to play quidditch this term. Also, please don't forget to read the rules and the other bits of information the Hufflepuff Captain has sent to those trying out.

House Points

Gryffindor: -5
Hufflepuff: -30
Ravenclaw: -7
Slytherin: -15

Prefect's Note

As you all may have probably noticed from the very start of the term, we have a visitor, a special addition to the staff: Ikenna Gevrik, Department Head of Magical Security for the Ministry of Magic. As Mr. Gevrik himself put it, he's here for security purposes. We have also found out, from the start of term, that we have a new Head of House. A beguiling Healer Moretti. Please treat them kindly, the way we treat our own professors, and show them what a true Hufflepuff is: just, loyal, honest, hardworking to mention a few... for it is the first impression, though never lasts, that creates the impact.

And about the House Cup. I always say, we can do this, can't we? We know we certainly can. Our House points are currently negative, dear Hufflepuffs... now isn't that such an unlovely sight? But rather think of that as a motivation. Something that will motivate us to strive harder to accomplish what we need and want to accomplish.

Prefect Cedric Leone.

Prefect's Note

Hi!

I just wanted to tell everyone that you are all doing so wonderful in class! Have you checked the hourglasses lately? We're over half way to a 1000 points! That's a REALLY, REALLY, REALLY big number!!!

Also, we've recently had our first Quidditch match, and all our players were brilliant! If you see Captain Lockhart or any of them in the halls, stop and congratulate them (I know you probably told them all already, but it can't hurt to tell them a second time how great they did)! Oh! And the Slytherins were terrific as well and deserve lots of congratulations as well!

On the topic of Quidditch - the Ravenclaw v.s. Gryffindor match was just the other day, and they both performed their very hardest too! Even if you weren't in the stands cheering, you can still show your support by saying, "good job!"

One last thing – I don’t know if you’ve heard or not, but there’s a Tea Party going on outside! Please come, no matter what, because it will be A LOT OF FUN! You can plan on all sorts of amazing activities, and I have it on very good account that butterbeer will be provided.

Sincerely,
Prefect Wesley Reagan.

The term hasn't come to an end yet and, we still have a chance to get to get more yellow gems in our hourglass. 767 is a BIG number, but... I think it's time we pulled ahead of those 'claws again. Every little contribution counts, no matter how small, and we are known as the house of the hard-workers. I'm sure we can do it, if we give it our best effort.

Speaking of house pride... Have you been up in the stands lately? The Hufflepuff quidditch team this term is filled with talent, and I'm confident we're going to do well this year. We won the game against Ravenclaw and, therefore, will be facing the winner of game 5 in the Quidditch Cup Championship! So exciting! Thanks for all the support in the stands and congrats team, on the outstanding performance in the last match! <3

Captain Melanie Lockhart.

Homework
Potions 3

Word search sheet

ooc from Droo: I found this online so I tweaked it and am using it. You can either print it out do the word search and scan it... or, you can use paint to edit the file to do the word search... or you can use the red and green letters and numbers... like Bubotuber is C3 - K3

Worth: 10 points

Due: One week from this post.

Be Sure to Include: User/Member Name, User/Member ID Number, and assignment title (Potions Assignment 3)

Divination 2

1. Give a brief definition of what Pyromancy is.

2. Choose one of the subsets of pyromancy we discussed during class (the types, that is) that you find interesting in some way, and write a good-sized paragraph explaining why. (this could be because you find it odd, disgusting, fascinating, whatever piques your interest. And a good-sized paragraph has at least 7-8 sentences.)

Extra credit: Create your own NEW type of pyromancy, and explain how it works. Give it a name, tell me what is used when practicing it, give a symbols list if you like (and if said type would even use one). However, DO NOT actually try and perform it anywhere in the castle, or any points you would get will be null and void.

Worth: 8 (up to 10 with the extra credit)

Due: March 19, 5 am GMT (that should equate to roughly 9 pm PST, on March 18th. If my math is correct.)

Be sure to include:
Character Name:
User Name:
House:
User ID:
Assignment Name: Divination Lesson 2 Homework

Herbology 1

Write 1 parchment (minimum 5 sentence paragraph) about another dangerous plant that wasn't discussed or handled in class. Explain how to care for the plant, why it's considered to be dangerous, and if any part of it is used in medicines or potions.

Worth: 5 points

Due: 14 MAR @ 11:59pm EST

Be sure to include: User/Member Name, User/Member ID Number, and assignment title (Herbology Lesson #1 Homework). And remember, PM TO Professor Vindictus with Herbology Homework as the title.

If you encounter any questions regarding the assignments, feel free to PM myself (imaginarynumb3rs), Lindsey (Lindzers), Wenz (Wenzlebug) or the Professor who assigned the homework.

Extras

Hogwarts Grounds: Our dear Groundskeeper Stryker has a lot on his mind lately. Make sure to keep an eye on these hot spots for any volunteers he might be looking to lend a hand or two or four in doing some light chores around the grounds.
The Student Gardens: Everyone likes the student gardens well maintained.

***SPECIAL EXTRAS***

Young Wizards Hunting Organization: A club for students interested in practicing the safe care of creatures (both magical and nonmagical) when said creatures are either threatened by or about to threaten muggles and/or wizards. Methods practiced will be both magical and nonmagical. Their first meeting is going on now, so pop on in and join!

Muggles Club: The purpose of this club is to discuss what muggle diseases and ailments could be cured by a potion, then propose it to the ministry. Headed by Professor Lafay, this is a great way to practice your potion-making-skills, talk about applicable, real-life situations, and potentially influence the wizarding world. (They've just started their second meeting, so be sure to check it out - even if you didn't go to the first one, you can still join!)

Find anyplace else that you think would be a good addition to this 'extras' list for Badgers to know about? Please send a PM to one (or both) of your House Prefects, or Quidditch Captain.

Quidditch

Today, Saturday, 12 MAR 2011 @ 2pm EST, is the Gryffindor v.s. Slytherin match! The stands should be opening any moment now, so be sure to get yourself a good seat and cheer, cheer, cheer!

House Points

Gryffindor: 1582
Slytherin: 1436
Ravenclaw: 1147
Hufflepuff: 1001

Prefect's Note

Hi again!

In the last Herald, Captain Melanie urged us to pull ahead - and now look at the hourglass: 1001 points! That's over 1000 points! THAT'S TERRIFIC!!!! You are all doing so wonderful and staying so diligent! And I just know, with gobs of new point opportunities heading our way soon, we can really fulfill the second part of her goal!

As for myself, I have my own little goal for everyone: HAVE FUN! We only have a couple more months to go before the term ends, and this time can easily become very overwhelming and stressful with all the exams coming up, but stay positive and don't be afraid to take a little break every now and then!

Aside from normal end-of-term exams, O.W.L.s and N.E.W.T.s are just around the corner. These tests are really scary, so please wish the fifth and seventh years good luck - and don't be afraid to offer your assistance with studying! And to everyone taking them, you will do brilliantly! You are all wonderful, hardworking students, and you'll do great!

Lastly, the Gryffindor v.s. Slytherin match is today! They've practiced really hard, so let's go cheer them on! I hope to see you in the stands!

Sincerely,
Prefect Wesley Reagan
