Jared had a fondness for exploration and Hogwarts castle, being Hogwarts castle, seemed like the perfect place to explore. Hair a little ruffled from his sojourn in the grounds, the Charms professor came to a leisurely, almost lazy stop by the hourglasses.

Hufflepuff in the negatives. He remembered that happening last night.

Katie stared at the hourglasses, Slytherin was in the draw at first place, YAY.

She remembered seeing hufflepuff lose house points last night, it was sad really, her sister was in hufflepuff so that means she was losing, poos Sammy. Katie stared and stared at them, she was quite interested about them.

Rae, had chosen an outfit to give the right impression to the teachers this year... But she opted out for the wings and halo.. That might be a bit too much this time 'round. Nonetheless, a shirt reading "Saint" must obviously give off the impression that she is NOT going to be up to anything this term...

Rae almost turned the corner until she stopped short, Le Prof Chaud! Rae backed up around the corner to look at him and think about her next move.

Walking up behind Prof Chaud she stopped next to him, lifting her head to admire the hourglasses just as he was doing so... "Pity... Puff's never knew how to choose the right words.. " Yeah, Slytherin's always choose their words carefully.. Like Rae.

Now Rae... Keep yourself calm, make your breathing steady, think about your words too!

she smiled as she saw her friend, Cora waved and walkd up to her, she probably didn't see her wave, she taped Katie on the shoulder and said, "hello Katie"

Jared turned his head, only to see Rae. "Rae," he said. Having convinced himself she had been running a fever last night, he sounded at perfect ease. "I rather think it is the people, and not the house, that matters."

It didn't sound like a reprimand but then, Jared had not intended to make it sound like one. He had found the Hufflepuff's concern legitimate, but did not deem it his business. For now. He took a moment to register that her outfit did not seem to reflect her personality. "Feeling better, today?"

"Oh yes... But the people that don't think things through go to the Puffs." So now.. They were both right. HA. Now though, Rae was confused... Feeling better? She blinked once, then stopped herself from expressing one of those goofy confused faces and just played along like she knew what he was talking about.. "I feel much better... NOW.. Thanks." You could see that half smile half smirk on her face, and also reaching up to her eyes.

Rae turned on her heel to face Mr.OhMyMerlinAttractive! instead of facing the hourglasses..

"How are you finding your way around so far? I could help... Like a tour guide." Oh yes.. She was acting like SUCH a saint right now.. It said so on her shirt!

"Wooo Hooo, whos there! Wahhh!" Katie started Karata chopping the air as defense from the evil ickle person, at least she sounded younger, she kicked in the air too, she had her eyes closed at the time and when she opened them she hugged the girl. "CORAA!"

"How can you be sure that you aren't talking to a former Hufflepuff?" Jared asked, amused. Had she not been a student, he might have smirked at the end of the question.

Might.

"I am... glad." Understatement. Jared had yet to figure out how to tackle female students that found him attractive.

Oh? "Thank you, but I'm doing fine, Rae." He didn't sound dismissive, only neutral. "I'm used to adjusting to new places. Part of being me, I suppose." It occurred to him, once again, that her outfit did not seem to reflect her personality. Or perhaps he'd slept too little, last night.

"That's an interesting costume," he observed neutrally. Saint? He doubted it, and he almost smiled wryly.

Hm... the hourglasses had an audience already.

Jake WONDERED why.

Ha.

He took a rather loud and crunching bite of an apple as he walked past two particular people... a student and a professor. Oh yes. He'd heard. The Entance Hall ECHOED.

Munching on his apple, Jake stopped in front of the hourglasses and nodded. You couldn't even tell Hufflepuff were in the negative. Another LOUD crunch of his apple and Jake waited. Maybe listening in oh so blatantly.

Oh... Rae actually hadn't thought about if he was a puff or not. Nonetheless she was a snake, she could easily get out of this. "I never said being a Huffie was a bad thing.. They just tend to talk before they think, resulting in this.." She said, gesturing to the hourglasses. Rae had no idea that Jake was behind her but even if she did know, she would still say the same words. "Anyways, I highly admire a few Hufflepuffs."Rae then added.. A few meaning Fletcher.. meaning one... But if Prof Chaud was a Puff.. Then it would mean two.

"Hm.. Have you moved a lot?" Yeah.. Rae just wanted to keep a conversation going as long as possible.. "It seems we share the same qualities.. All I know is adjusting." Which was true, but mainly she just wanted to show how they could get along.

"Costume? I see you aren't easily fooled then." She might be trying to fool the other teachers but this one she didn't mind admitting she wasn't a saint.

Clever. Jared could see why the girl had been sorted into Slytherin. "Not bad," he said, not referring to her statement but to how she had handled the situation. Lazy little grin. "Oh?"

She did? He'd like to know.

"I suppose." He looked mildly thoughtful. "I've had to be flexible." In the three years he'd travelled extensively, he hadn't had a fixed home for more than a fortnight, so one might consider that an understatement. "It's not a bad thing," he offered, in response to her statement.

Had that been her aim? Jared grinned, another rather lazy grin. "Probably not. Seeking a bit of trouble is fine if you know how not to get caught." He doubted he'd ever advice a student to seek trouble, but not getting caught is basic tactics. He supposed she knew, being a Slytherin.

Footsteps? Crunches?

Company.

"Jake," Jared said, neutrally.

"Actually-" MUNCHCRUNCHMUNCH "-the Hufflepuff traits are more like... honest, hardworking, just, patient, loyal... I think you'll find Gryffindors are more likely to talk, and act, before they think." Jake took another large bite from the apple. "Anyway... a House doesn't make a person. I am simply the kind of person who says what I think... not without thinking."

He'd wait until the girl looked at him, and then give her a smile.

"The points were actually for not leaving the staff dias."

Oh... wait... maybe because Jake was at the staff table at the feast. Never mind.

But Jake didn't know his. "I didn't catch your name, sir," he noted, eating more apple.

Good point there, but he could keep out of this. He'd let the students deal this. Their business.

Ironic that Rae had asked him the same question at the feast. "I don't remember it being mentioned," Jared said. Then he added, as one might add an afterthought, "Professor Descoteaux."

"I assume Mr. Gevrik addressed your concerns, last night?"

Nice apple.

Rae smiled at Prof Chaud, thinking about how 'ridiculously good looking' he was...

Then Jake happened.....

Her ears.... They heard him...... Rae slowly turned her head around to see Jake. Oh, this was the Puff that lost them points... Rae didn't feel threatened by his laud mouth, after all... He was the one with negative points, and Rae never got caught unless she chose to. "Correct, a house doesn't make a person. But the people make the house. People with the same qualities are sorted into the same house, therefore making the qualities of the house." Don't argue.. Rae knows she just made a point. But instead of Rae continuing on with Jake, Mr.HotStuff had questioned an 'oh?' which made Rae think he could possibly be a Puff... If he was then Rae had no problem with the Huffies what so ever.

"No of course it isn't a bad thing.. In most situations, it just makes you stronger." Of course it made Rae stronger.. She learned to take care of herself being homeless all those years.

Giving a small mischievous smile, she had the feeling that this professor actually didn't mind a bit of trouble. YESSSS!

"I never get caught.. Unless getting caught is my goal.." And this year.. It TOTALLY was.

Jake looked between this bloke and the girl. His name... hadn't been mentioned at the feast when he and the girl spoke?

... Okay.

As for Gevrik, Jake gave the man a shrug. "I'll be visiting him often. I have many concerns, there wouldn't have been time for them last night."

Jake shook his head. "The people don't make the house either, not in my opinion. The founders decided on that. Plus, for the people to make the house, the majority of them must hold that trait. I don't know a single person who talks without thinking. It's near impossible."

Jake was very into his semantics. He couldn't help it.

The young man shrugged. "It's a question with many answers and not a single person with THE answer. Both of our opinions are, of course, valid."

And his apple was almost finished.

That was sad.

"Most," Jared agreed. There had been that one time he'd had to sleep under a giant toadstool, and Jared still doubted if that had made him stronger.

He grinned, another lazy grin.

"How Slytherin."

Yes. She could take that as a compliment.

The boy had been right, Jared noted, about Hufflepuffs and patience. "I see," he said, still neutrally.

The apple had almost been finished.

Coraline looked at Katie confusedly, Katie had been having to much sugar, she could tell easily, she smiled though and hugged her best friend back, "hello Katie" she said once again.

Rae was about to get frustrated with this kid and how he just kept talking... She was OBVIOUSLY in a conversation with a MAN here! But after the boy made his point he settled with each other's opinions and all that neutral stuff.. Yeah yeah. Normally Rae would enjoy being around this kid.... But this wasn't normal. She was with Prof Chaud.. Not the right time.. Come back later. She wasn't about to counter argue, even though she could, she now knew two Puffs who talked without thinking. And if you cound acting without thinking... Put Arya in that bunch.. She threw mud at Rae for no apparent reason!

"Thanks.." Of course.. She WAS a Slytherin. "Your not keen on giving detentions are you?" If he was... She might set up her little plans so she would be caught by him. Welton was cool... But Rae would WAYYY rather have detention with THIS GUY!

And yes... She WAS getting caught this year..


Oh.. Shucks.. Jake's apple was almost done..

Arabella-Marie was walking past the hourglasses and saw that Hufflepuff were already minus 20 points when did that happen and who was the trouble maker for hufflepuff she was glad that gryffindor hadn't lost any points yet but it was just the beginning of the year she knew that she had to work hard to try to get Gryffindor the house cup

"Good," Jake nodded, managing to get the last few morsels of apple flesh before he was finished. "What do you teach?"

He inspected the apple core.

All gone.

Jake stared at the other girl for a moment, as if SHE'D made his apple go away.

Then the young man threw the core farrrrrrr over his shoulder and vanished it before it hit the floor. He had flicked his wand into his hand behind his back, of course, which was his means, and with a flick of his hand it flew back into it's holster. It wasn't showing off, just laziness.

Then he pulled another apple from his pocket.

This was fun.

"Not particularly." Jared scratched his chin thoughtfully. He had been a trouble-maker in his initial days at school, and he'd have preferred it if his teachers had actually listened to him. For once. "I suppose if someone sneaks a niffler into my office..."

Should he even have said that?

"I know," Jared grinned. There was a mildly amused look in his eyes, now. "Charms."

"Can I expect you in my class?"

Another apple?

Fantastic.

Hm. Charms.

"Yep," Jake nodded, eating this apple a little slower than before. "I did well in my OWL and I need the best grades in every class for my NEWTs, so I'll be there of course. I'm taking every class."

Just driiiiiiiiving the point home that Hufflepuff were not how most people COUGHbreCOUGH percieved them. Even though... nobody had actually SAID to him that Huffies weren't about school.

But nobody knew what he was thinking anyway. MWAHAHAH.

The mildly amused look in Jared's eyes had clearly decided to linger. He did believe Jake, could even say he had expected the kid to have bagged good grades, but, nevertheless, kept back a small cough.

"Decided on a career, then?"

Probably a good thing the boy did not know his opinion of the houses, in general.

"Oh, not at all," Jake responded casually. "But it won't hurt to get twelve O grades at NEWT level, if I can, to compliment my OWL grades. All my options will be pretty much open."

Thinking about the future wasn't fun.

"Why? Have you decided on one?" Jake smirked eeeeeever so slightly cheekily to the professor.
