Alex entered the common room. She was alone today and little sad for no reason. She walked through the common room looking around groups of students chatting..
She wanted to join in but did not dare to.. She dragged herself to an empty chair in the corner of the common room avoiding everyone and blocking her need to talk to anyone..

Hugo took a seat on the sofa and sighed.
He told himself it was better to not be at the ball,
because Fee would probably end up snogging Edmond the whole evening anyway.
The world just didn't have enough place for a perfect Ravenclaw boy.

He saw some people taking off for the ball. Losers!
He took out his wand. Charms practise. Charms was the best.
His book was still in good condition when he opened it.

He spinned his pencil around on the table.
"Immobulus," he whispered. The pencil froze at once.
So it worked. Boring...

Sitting in the common room, he fills a bucket with water. He wasn’t taking any chances. Most spells he tried for the first time set things on fire for some reason. His poor toy spider…he hoped…maybe, just maybe this time it wouldn’t happen that way.

Setting it onto the table in front of the fire, he takes out his wand. Taking a deep breath he says “Arania Exumai!", drawing a figure eight in the air and jabbing the wand at the spider. A bit to exuberantly apparently though, he thinks as his eyes widen and he pulls his wand back with the skewered spider on the end.

Well…it’s not on fire… he thinks happily, taking the poor spider off the end. Then taking aim again he drawing an eight in the air “Aranio Exomai!", jabbing toward it a little more gently, he then winces.

Taking the bucket he douses the fire, picking up the dripping wet spider he gets up and goes to his dormitories.

Eino entered the Ravenclaw Common Room after a long and exhausting day, but despite his lack of enthusiasm he decided to dedicate some time to his Care of Magical Creatures homework. He took his toy spider from his bag and put it on top of the table. He examined the room and noticed very few people. He didn't want to embarrass himself by not successfully executing the spell, so he quietly muttered the words "Arania Exumai" as he drew an eight with his wand. Nothing happened. He tried it a few times, slightly raising his voice, but after a few more tries still nothing happened. He thought he was doing something wrong and upon checking his class notes he discovered he was. He was drawing the eight vertically, but it was supposed to be on its side, so he tried it again. A dim silver light emitted from the tip of his wand, and even though the spider didn't move, he knew he was finally doing it right, which was progress. He knew that if he enunciated the spell properly he would make further progress, but his fear kept him from doing so, so he gradually raised his voice. After half an hour he had not gotten anywhere. Lots of students practice in the Common Room... It's not weird. It's probably weird that I am whispering a spell. He thought, and decided to say it properly. "Arania Exumai!" A significant amount of light now had emitted from his wand, but it wasn't enough to blow away the spider. After a few more tries he decided to pack his things and head to bed.

It sucked that Hugo was so good at everything. Really. Now he had nothing to do.
He hadn't even Raven friends and had yet to meet a cute Ravenclaw girl.
Oh well, it was only his first year.

Woah, did that boy just blow away a freaking spider?
He probably didn't know because he didn't attend the CoM lesson.
Bad, bad, Hugo.

He tapped the boy on his shoulder.
"Hey," he said. "How'd you do that?!"

Natalie walked into the common room and looked around. She didnt know anyone at Hogwarts. At all. It was her first year and she had just come to the school after her mother had been teaching her at home.

Her fiery red hair hung in curls around her face. her skin was ivory and smooth. Her green eyes stood out from her pale face. Her lips were light pink and full. She had this happy vibe around her that uplifted anyone's mood. She was thin as can be, though she looked very healthy. Her nails were always painted black. Her eyelashes were long and dark. She always had a smile on her pretty little face.

Natalie sat down in a chair near a guy who seemed interested in another boy with a spider, or something like that. Natalie wished she had Spice with her. She needed something to do and her pet would just make everything more interesting.

Hugo looked up from the spider. Oooh, a pretty Ravenclaw girl.
"Hi," he smiled. "Have I seen you around before?" he said to the girl. Cool, they both had fiery red hair.

natalie smiled at him, showing her perfectly white teeth. "I'm afraid not, i just came here. It's my first year..." her voice trailed off as she looked at the boy. His hair was just as red as hers.

"It's my first year too... Maybe I could show you around?" he said to the girl. He looked up at his hair.He wasn't a natural ginger, his hair was just... Red for some reason.

"Sure," Natalie said, she could use a friend. Natalie had on a white fitted t-shirt and black skinny jeans; she had a ravenclaw robe draped on her shoulders.

"Well, where should we go? There's the Great Hall, the astronomy tower, the lake, the pumpkin patch, etc." he rambled on while he shook his hair from his eyes.

"Somewhere outside? I love being outside. I love climbing trees too," Natalie said with excitement.

"Then, we should go to the Giant Treehouse!" he smiled.

"That sound like a lot of fun. We should go," Natalie said, looking at him with her big, green eyes.

"Oh, hello" Eino said surprised and slightly embarrassed for attracting some attention. "It's a spell from Care of Magical Creatures," he explained "I'm not very good at it yet, though. You draw an eight in air on its side, like the infinity symbol, then you say 'Arania Exumai' to blow away the spider." He hadn't met anyone at school yet, and he wanted to know a few names, of real people and not imaginary ones, that he could at least mention his parents. "I'm Eino," he introduced himself bringing his hard forward.

Rose entered the Common Room, looking around for anyone she knew. No luck there. She looked with interest at two boys, practising spells by the fire. She walked over, and watched as one of the boys sent a toy spider zooming across the desk. That was pretty cool. She smiled, and perched on the arm of a chair near the boy. 'That was really cool,' she said warmly, and listened closely as he explained to the other boy.

"Thank you." Eino replied embarrassed. He never had thought of Hogwarts as a social experience, despite the fact that his parents had told him to make new friends and wrote regularly asking if he had made any. "My name's Eino." He introduced himself to the girl now, avoiding her gleaming eyes.

'No problem,' said Rose with another smile. She noticed that the boy seemed a bit embarrassed, poor guy. Though she'd probably be embarrassed too if there were suddenly people crowding around her asking about spells. 'Nice to meet you, Eino, I'm Lily-Rose. But just call me Rose,' she told him brightly.

"Nice to meet you, Rose." Eino replied with a smile. "I suppose you are a first year, too?" She seemed young but he wasn't sure, plus he didn't know what else to say so that bought him some time. "Do you know how to perform this spell?" He asked hoping she had attended CoMC, since he could use some help practicing.

Rose smiled, glad that Eino seemed more at ease now. 'Yes, I'm a first year,' she said, nodding. He must have been one as well, since he said 'too'. That was good; she'd met hardly anyone in her year. Or hardly anyone, period. She could do with a few friends. 'I know how, but I've not done it successfully yet,' she said with a shrug. She wasn't that great at these spells. Potions was her subject.

It was refreshing meeting someone who was also a Hogwarts newbie, despite the long year he still didn't feel very comfortable around school, so a few friends might just be what he needs. "Same. I think it's a little too advanced for us first years, but I will keep trying and hopefully I will get some result." He wondered what some of the older students' progress was and how much he would grow in the years to come; how easy it would become for him to learn new spells.

Rose nodded, agreeing complety with Eino. 'I think so too, it seems kind of tricky,' she said, glancing down at the spider, and then at her wand. Spiders usually freaked her out, so it was a good thing it wasn't a real one. 'I wonder if any of the older students can do it, though...' she mused. Probably, because they were all way more advanced than the first years. Well, durhh. State the obvious, why don't you, Rose.

"I bet they do, and they probably don't even have to practice very much." Eino felt disappointed he could not impress his classmates with this spell, but this could be an opportunity to bond with other people. "Would you like to practice with me?" He proposed, hoping they would accept, but expecting rejection.

'Yeah, but they have been learning magic longer than us,' Rose pointed out, ever the practical one. 'Besides, we'll get it sooner or later... probably sooner, in my case,' ugh. Potions was so much more fun; even if they did have Lafay as a teacher. And what was the point of her most recent homework? Stupidd. 'Sure, I'd love to practice with you!' Rose said with a grin, and pulled out her wand.
