The Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom is brightly lit, if not overly warm, but there is no professor in sight. Instead, there are stations established around the perimeter of the room. The sign posted on the chalkboard is quite visible:

Take as much time as you need to study the creatures I’ve placed around the room. Chat with your friends, take very good notes, draw and label sketches, and then you are dismissed to prepare your homework assignment.
For each creature, you must:
Correctly identify the creature
Describe the physical attributes of the creature and any characteristic behaviors
Describe one magical way to handle the creature.
Describe one non-magical way to handle the creature.
Optional: Sketch and label one of the creatures for a bonus.
Points: This assignment is worth the full 20 class points.
Due: November 9, 2010 midnight EST
Station 1
The water in the aquarium is murky and dark, in spite of the lighting in the room. You may be tempted to think it is simply an empty tank until a face like a demon monkey smashes against the glass. The strong scaled hands that pound futilely against the tank sides are webbed.
Station 2
A squat cage sits on another desk. The creature inside is fierce looking in spite of his gnomish little face, glaring at any onlookers with red eyes and occasionally beckoning toward the lock on the cage with its long fingernails.
Station 3
Another aquarium sits near the windows, although this one contains no water. Instead, it seems to hold a large, gray rock. Strange.
Station 4
The last station is simply a trunk placed on the floor. It rattles from time to time, but the heavily charmed lock will keep you from opening it. What could be inside?

The trunk in the corner made some more loud noises setting Kurumi back on her toes again. What would happen if any of these creatures got out of their cages...the professor wasn't around at the moment, right? Did that mean they were going to have to think on their toes about how to put everything back in its proper place? Were any of them capable of doing that?!

Freya raised her eyebrows "Huh?How so?" she was really confused. How come Cass said that? "Like I said before hun. You need to talk to him. Maybe he will talk to you." she said trying to encouraging Cass.
Cass shook her head as she straightened her robes and looked at the tank with murky water. "No, I'm alright. Besides, I know where I'm not wanted." She told Freya in an empty voice, then she glanced at her notes, which were a blank and sighed. "Murky water, devil monkey face." She said as her quick notes quill scribbled away on to the notebook. "Let's move on to the other one.."

Marie just rolled her eyes at Destiny when she asked her why she was so violent all the time. "I'm not being violent... YET. And yes, I must know." Hearing who it was though she let go of Destiny's foot. Right, she should have known it was Carter, after all he had been in 'Love' with Destiny at the time, even if it was drug induced. She watched as Destiny crawled away... again, only this time she didn't try to stop her. She no longer felt concerned for her friend. It was her own fault she had her so called stalker at the time. After all she was the one that gave him that stupid potion.
Hearing Evelyn yell at her she looked up. "I'm not stopping you from getting your work done." She was only stopping Destiny, who she had now let go so she wasn't stopping her either.
Great, and now Mia was standing there trying to get her to do the assignment. "Um, I don't feel like doing it right this minute." she said. "You go ahead and get it done, I'll start in a little bit." For now she was just going to sit there and stay as far away from Destiny as she could.
If she was lucky maybe Jimmy would make it to class and she could work with him.

Okay so Mia wasn't particularly smart but she would have to be an idiot to not notice that Evelyn did not want to talk about her and Destiny so Mia let matter drop altogether.

Was anyone ever a friend for them after a first meeting? "Still though… It was bearable enough that you two didn’t duel it out the next you saw one another." Smirking, she glanced towards Mia for a split second before turning back to the cage and her description of the creature inside. She was joking again. Of course. "Ice cream always helps…." Hmm? Advice?
Just about to ask what kind of advice the girl gave her friend, Marie had spoken up. "I know but…" Eh. Frowning, her gaze lowered to the floor as Destiny continued to crawl. Bad mood Marie. It was hard trying to decide whether to run for it or to be a good friend. Such a hard decision!
Taking a deep breath, Evelyn let it out slowly before shrugging her shoulders. "Fine then. You have three pairs of notes to look through if you decide not to get it done. Just so you know." Three pairs of notes of which may or may not be of use or even readable, depending on the person writing them. See? She was being a good friend AND running. Talk about multitasking!

Which class was this agai-OH DADA. Legend strolled into the classroom tiredly. He had been up late last night making jokes with Mat so of course he would suffer in the morning. As soon as he walked in he noticed something was different. It was eerie and sort of quiet and there were just random stuff around.
Looking up at the chalk board, his mouth formed a small 'oh'. Alright this seemed interesting. Dropping his bag on his desk he took out a notebook and a muggle pen.
Looking toward the left of him he noticed that Huffie dude who was in the forest with him. "Why you just sitting down for? Too scared of being attacked again?" Of course he was joking. The spider thing was AWESOME.

Treyen looked to his right and there he was, the Gryffindor from Saylen's class, the cool kid who was not afraid of spiders, unlike Diggy.
"Sitting down? I'm not sitting down" he said, slightly frowning. Yes, he was confused, because as far as Treyen knew he was standing in front of one of the aquariums. But then he smile, widely, "I think we can handle being attacked again, don't you think so?" of course, it worked better if they knew what was attacking them, which is why his eyes flickered towards the creatures inside their prison.

At least now we could see the creature clearly not like the last one" she said.
The sketching progress had begun. Daisy had found a comfortable spot of the floor in front of the first tank. She had out all her art stuff and was sketching away determined to capture every detail. It wasn't a very pretty creature to draw but she wanted to have it in her notes.

Amy stared into the empty tank, or at least thats what she thought untill an evil monkey thing came up to the glass "Eek!" she backed away from the glass "what is that.... thing"
she hurriedly walked to a different station, there was a little gnome thing in a cage, despite it's evil apperance she thought it looked kinda cute.she took out her note book and started drawing it as she would do with the rest of the creatures

Shifting his eyes from side to side, the Slytherin lad stands at the back of the class a bit bewildered. He understood the part where the Headmaster not being there, what he didnt quite understand was why it looked like DADA suddenly turned into some Muggle Science lab.
He steps forward slightly, looking at each of the stations. They all appeared to be creatures, or at least some sort of habitat for them. He looked down at his hand clutching the DADA book. Maybe he should've brought his COMC book instead? That is of course, if he still had it, what with what happened in their last class....

Grabbing someone by the ankle and pulling them across the room was violent, but Destiny refrained from saying that. She didn't need to be picked up Hulk style and thrown across the room, that's for sure. She'd probably just land in that aquarium with the dark and murky water and Merlin knows what was in that.
And now Marie was all sad and gloomy AGAIN! Gah that girl needed to cheer up. Like go slide down a rainbow or something, because sliding down rainbows would cheer anyone up! Even Lafay would cheer up and that woman was never happy.
Destiny would have to tell her to do the same..later, though.
Standing from the ground, she brushed herself off before reaching for her bag and pulling out her notebook and quill and chocolate. Right, they had an assignment to get done, and..Marie wasn't going to do it now. Jeeez! It was her own fault she was gloomy! If she would have just believed her about the troll boy stalker and wasn't so nosy, she would have never found out who it was.
And if she would have taken her advice about staying away from boys last term, she would be happy right now. "She's not using my notes." she mumbled, making her way past Evelyn and Mia to the first station.
She didn't want tear stained notes from her crying!

"Salander" he said, and then pointed out at the rock thing, he still wasn't sure what it could be, but he seemed to have a fair idea based on what was written on his notes, "Interesting, no? How the most dangerous seem so harmless" well, not the most dangerous from the other, but still, if it needed to be in a closed environment for them to watch it...then, yes, it wasn't entirely harmless.
The comment could also be applied to him, to Treyen, because...what was it he once read...that size was no guarantee of power? Yeah, that, and since Treyen was little and oh-so-harmless he could be the one to be on the look out for. Beware, creatures from the wood. Or Forest, whatever.
Rubiey was staring transfixed at station one. This was wierd. She was slightly grossed out by all these ugly creatures scattered around the room. Leaning in closer, she tried to peer into the murky water.

Some ugly monkey type thing smashed against the glass, and Rubiey jumped back with a yelp of fear, catching her heel on something, and falling flat on her bum.

Hmm...So all they had to do was identify what was in each of these stations and then answer a few questions about each of them. Eh that wasn't so bad now was it? The Blonde approached the first station and looked in when suddenly the creature appeared with a sudden appearance that startled the poor Slytherin.
Okaaaaaaay then.
She took a few steps away from the tank this time. Yeah she didn't want to be startled again. The sixteen (almost seventeen she might want to add) year old jotted down a few notes here and there so that she could remember them for later.

Unless theres a hidden catapult in there and they launch that thing at us"
His head suddenly spun to the first station, where Alice and her Gryff friend seemed to have encountered something nasty. "Now that on the other hand, looks dangerous." Just by the sound of it anyway.

"And rocks can be dangerous, you know, if someone is holding them" and then they shoot it straight to your head.
Yup, dangerous. Unless...well, they could test how dangerous rocks were if Salander volunteered as a test subject.
Treyen chuckled, "Nah, if you know what to do when you face it, then you're okay" he nodded and uncrossed his arms, it was time to take another note. "You do know what it is, don't you?" eyes slightly narrowing at the boy.

Duel each other?
Mia looked at Evelyn and raised an eyebrow, “You remember what happened in charms right? Do I look like I would be able to duel someone?” Half the time she didn’t know end of her wand from the other. The thought of actually duelling someone scared the crap out of her. Not only would she get her butt kicked but she was likely to do something without meaning to.
She was about to say that ice cream was the saviour of many problems but then Marie started talking.

Mia sighed a little. All that work she had done with Marie, getting her back on her feet and in the arms of others guys and one mention of Carter and she’s falling apart again.
And she so wanted to remind her of that but Mia quite liked where her nose sat on her face.

And she’d liked to keep it there.
Now it looked as though Destiny was in a bad mood. Mia thought it best to just keep her mouth shut from now on. So she walked over to the next station and started writing down the description of the next creature.
