Wandmaking & Wandlore

http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z...oothbanner.jpg

As you approach the wands booth there are three set-up areas for it. The smallest of these has high-stacked piles of parchment upon it for your information and inquiry. You can pick up a pamphlet on wandmaking. Next to it is the largest which looks rather like a small portable cabinet of curiosities. Wands encased in glass are on display and placards with information about wands including a non-functioning model of the infamous elder wand. On the other side of the information booth sits a rather inexplicable stand which has a target upon it's back wall with a fierce looking wand floating directly in front of it.

Tending to this booth are two people, a witch and a wizard who once ran Ollivanders on Diagon Alley, Otto and Sara Beezwick.

Turning from the booth that was now closed, Ellie immediately saw a new one that caught her attention. Wands! That. Would. Be. Awesome! She never even thought about that as a career. She ran up to it and grabbed a pamphlet. First pamphlet she took, actually.

Ottavio Beezwick was using a wand to shuffle a rather large pile of pamphlets and a creating a little bit of a gust. "Hello there!" He responded brightly to the girl who'd just taken a pamphlet. "Thinking of a career in wandmaking, are you?"

Ellie smiled.

"No, honestly," she said, a little out of breath. Not sure why... "I mean, I hadn't... thought of it.. Until now. When I saw the booth." Babble, babble, babble.

She held her toy dragon in her hand. Tehe.

Kellen wandered through the job fair, looking in equal parts at the booths and for his friends. He came to a stop near one booth in particular, and looked it over. Wandmaking? That sounded... different.

Thoughts of finding friends pushed to the back of his mind, he approached the booth and looked at the setup. Especially that angry-looking wand. Was that...? Well, he was officially interested. He waved at the two people running the booth, "Hey. So ah... what's this all about?" Besides... you know... the obvious...

Sara stepped down off of her stool and moved forward. "Good afternoon, young man," she greeted warmly. She grabbed a pamphlet from the stack and offered it to him. She wasn't sure exactly how to answer his question so.... she asked a question of her own. "Tell me, have you ever considered wandmaking as a career?"

Wandmaking... Hmm.

Wands were cool. As Ty went over to the booth, his eyes were immediately drawn to the display, were there was a model of something called the "Elder Wand". "Hello! What's the elder wand? And how do you make wands?" Ty asked, a little more subdued than before but as squeaky as ever.

There was something very... calm about wands. Very mysterious-like. It was all very cool, and Ty found that he liked it. A lot.

"Good afternoon," he replied back, taking the pamphlet and holding out his hand. "Kellen Stern, and no, no I haven't. It looks pretty interesting though, what kinds of things do you have to be proficient in to make wands?" This was his OWL year, after all, and he really should start paying attention to a future career. It'd certainly be less boring than sitting around the house waiting for an inheritance.

Finally, after just about walking over to the Fashion booth...

...did Evelyn spot this one.

Immediately her eyes lit up at the sign as she walked over. She was worried that the Diagon Alley booth was the only thing that had anything on the job of wand making. And even then it didn't have much information!

The people who looked like were the ones that worked at this booth were already talking to others, and since she was actually too interested in the pamphlet, which she JUST picked up, Evelyn didn't bother to intrude on any conversations.

Instead, she just kept her ears open to hear what they were saying.

"Oh? I always thought it was too early to know what you wanted to do with your life anyway before 18. Not that it hurts to explore." He said with a wave of his hand. "What sort of wand do you carry?"

Otto smiled slowly at the young girls question. He loved talking about the elder wand. In fact, that was why he insisted that there be a display for it. "I'm so glad you asked." Which was really only saying the half of it. "The elder wand is a wand said to be forged by death himself. Much myth and mystery surround this instrument including that when it combines with certain other objects it can make the possessor the master of death. Have you ever heard of the Deathly Hallows?" Mr. Beezwick asked trying hard to guess the girls age. Did they teach them about the deathly hallows at Hogwarts?

Otto noticed a new face approach the booth. "If you have any questions, feel free to ask away." And, maybe she'd enjoy the game.

Evelyn almost scoffed when she heard someone ask what the elder wand is. Really. If they were asking that then they should not be here! Pfft. Nodding at the man anyways with a small sweet smile, Evelyn turned back to what she was doing before.

Looking through the pamphlet, her eyes traveled around to the wands that were encased in the glass on display, including what seemed to be a replica of the elder wand. That is.... SO COOL!

Smiling, she walked up closer to it, looking at all the details. She'd seen pictures of the wand of course, drawings and such, but the replica...looked so real! After a few moments, she smirked and stood up straight again, shaking her head slightly. One of these days, SHE was going to make a model of the wand for herself. Just, she had to get the right stuff to make it. And learn how to for that matter.

Taking a deep breathe, the Slytherin turned and was about to look at more of the wands on display, when a particular one caught her eye. Woah. Moving towards the other end of the booth and at another stand right next to it, she stared at the wand floating in the air. And what was with the target behind it? "What is that?"

"That is a challenge." Mr. Beezwick began to explain. "Would you call yourself willful in the way you wield your wand?"

Hmm? Looking back at the man, an eyebrow raised, she stood there for a moment, looking between the man and the wand. "Depends..." she started to say, looking back towards the floating wand. Hmm, the...wait nope. "What's the challenge?"

"Tame that wand." Beezwick pointed at the floating thick handled wand almost as if he were firing a muggle arm. "Part of being a wand-maker is having a flexible handle that most wands can respond to. Big Bertha will hardly let anyone cast so much as a water conjuring charm without fire-back. But, if you feel up to the challenge, take hold of her wand and cast, anything really but aim for the target."

The challenge was to tame the wand? And he named it Big Bertha!?

Both eyebrows raised at this as she looked back over at the wand. Hardly lets anyone cast. Jeez, who in the world was this wand made for then?! Laughing quietly in disbelief, Evelyn shook her head for a moment, thinking it over. If she was able to use other wands just fine, and wield two wands at once, according to her dreams of what happened the year before, then she might have success with this?

Probably not, but... "Well, it's worth a shot." she mumbled, taking her own wand out of her right sleeve and placing it into her left. Don't want that getting in the way or anything. Especially if the spell were to backfire.

Wiping her hand on her pants, just in case there was any dirt or something on them (which was unlikely) that she didn't want to get on the wand, cautiously, she extended her arm until her hand was right next to the wand. It looked, seriously dangerous. Haha greeaat. Grabbing the wand, Evelyn held her breath for a moment, just waiting for something bad to happen but, nothing yet. HA! One step down. Smirking, she brought it closer to investigate it before looking towards the man. "Any spell you said?"

Otto Beezwick eyed the area where he was wife now was talking with another student. "Any spell you'd like. Just, uhh..." He took a step back. "On the count of three. Ready? 1, ...2,...3!" he said from about three steps away.

Cool, any spell. Nodding, she was just about to turn back to the target when she noticed he took a step back. Oh, great. Way to make her feel confident. Jeez.

Getting herself ready, for a split moment, when the man asked if she was ready, Evelyn relaxed her left arm so her wand would slip out of her sleeve. On the first count she bent down and placed her wand on the ground before quickly standing up again. Really, if she was going to be thrown backwards, set on fire, or anything else, her wand might as well be safe.

1...

Okay! Yes, she could do this.

2...

Yes. She could! This wand, will work!

3!

Please work and with no permanent damage...

"Expelliarmus!"

For a moment, she thought she saw the usual red light that she'd seen come from that particular spell head towards the target, which made her heart beat rather quickly at the thought of actually succeeding. This was one of the spells she'd pretty much mastered both verbally and...slightly non-verbally as well. However in the next second, she found herself being thrown back...and ultimately, onto her back. Ouch.

Sitting up slowly, a little out of breathe and still in a little shock of what happened, she took a moment to look around, unsure of what really happened. Whaaa? Where...was the wand? Eep! Oh, there it was. By her feet.

Crazy thing...

Ellie nodded in agreement. There were so many jobs out there! She needed all the time she could get to explore them!

She took her wand from it's holster, and twirled it. "It's walnut." So pretty, "With unicorn hair. 11.62 inches." Funny how one can always remember their wand in such detail.

Oooh, wandmaking! How interesting! Vashti hadn't thought of that as a career before, but now that the idea was presented to her, she thought it might be fun! She still had a long way to go to deciding her career, of course, but this was certainly going to be one of her options. Walking over to the booth, she picked up a pamphlet, scanning its contents.

Mr. Beezwick watched the girl take up the wand and cast from what he hoped was a safe distance. He backed up against one side of the booth not realizing another young student was there.

Looking up at the hand being offered to her, Evelyn scowled before a moment before sighing and taking it. Standing up, she wiped off anything that may have stuck to her clothes before answering him. "Fine." she mumbled, looking down at the wand by her feet before picking that up too.

Cautiously...picking it up...

Don't want any OTHER accidents of course. "Guess it doesn't like me." she said, a small smile now appearing on her face as she handed the wand back to the man. However, she couldn't help but feel saddened by the fact she couldn't 'tame' the wand. So, she wasn't meant to be a wand-maker?

She still had years to learn though. There could still be a chance.

"Yea. It doesn't like me either." The man was eye-ing the area just behind where the girl had fallen as he took back the wand. In a moment he walked over to it and appeared to kick thin air. Yes. He had suspected as much. The cushioning charm had been placed entirely too far. "My wife, however is another story." Mr. Beezwick reached into his red robe and pulled out a card offering it to the girl. "You might find these to be a bit more enjoyable. And, I think you deserve a bit of that after giving the wand a try."

Nodding slowly at the man's words, Evelyn rubbed her stomach as if trying to soothe a stomach-ache as she watched him look at...nothing. What in the world was he doing?

And...ugh. It felt like she had been kicked in the stomach by a hippogriff. Either the wand made it feel like she had been kicked on purpose, or her spells just really hurt.

Shrugging off the man's weirdness, the Slytherin looked back up at him when he mentioned his wife having more luck with the wand. Eh, whatever. Congrats to whoever his wife was. However, looking at the card being offered to her, Evelyn listened to what he said first about it before hesitantly taking it. What was it?

Reading what was on the card, Evelyn could help but chuckle at the words. "Do these really work?" she asked, eyes filled with amusement, matching her smile. The kicked stomach feeling would totally be worth it if they did.

"Sure thing, sir." she nodded, looking back down at the card in her hands before sticking it in her pocket. Niiiice and safe there.

Thinking about finally going over to another booth, she paused for a moment before looking back over to the man. "I have a question actually. Is there a specific way you have to learn to be a wandmaker? Like, do you have to go to school or something?"
