Gold had that time-old [well, it seemed time-old now] feeling that Xylon was trying his best not to smirk at her. She decided not to give a rather pointed roll of her eyes, ignored whatever he was up to [in his mind, of course] and focused her attention back on to the discussion at hand.
Of course. Water was a necessity. "One and a half gallon, I think," Gold said. "But we can decide that later," she added. Right now, it would be nice to just get a list of what they wanted to use. She glanced down at her waterproof wristwatch, to check how much time they had left. Plenty, but time has a tendency to fly right out of the window. Poof. End of an hour, before you know it. In other words, all the more reason for them to be quick.
"Crushed or ground," Gold nodded, when he mentioned the bezoar. But she shook her head, at his next suggestion.
"We're already using Valerian, as a sedative," she said. "We don't want to overdo that. Asphodel is stronger. We could use it on its own, but with the Valerian, the combined effect might become too much for the kneazle to handle. We'll have to choose one. I think the Valerian." But he was free to state his own option, of course. They could work out another route, if Xylon disagreed. This was teamwork, after all.
"I think we can opt for whole lemons or lemon juice, too," Gold went on. "Those would be anti-bacterial. Oh, and Re'em or Salamander blood for strength." Her eyes flicked towards the kneazle. Weak, little thing. Gold - again - wanted to hug him. The kneazle, that is. "We'll need an agent of change, too. Fluxweed sounds life the safest bet, to me."
She looked up at him. "What d'you say?"

But of course. He hadn't thought of that. "Valerian sounds the right choice," Xylon said. It was kind of made him really really want to smirk that he and Gold were agreeing with each other. "We don't want to use anything that might be too much for the cat to stomach."

"Lemon juice sounds better," he said. "It would blend well. We'll have to be very careful with Re'em blood." It was a pretty strong ingredient. "I say we use Salamander blood." He gave a short nod at her suggestion of the Fluxweed to show that he agreed with it.
"How does the inclusion of mint sound?" He asked."Mint helps cure nausea." He looked down at the list she had drawn up. "We have everything we need I think. Sedative, something anti-bacterial, something anti-poison, energy and vitamin source, an ingredient responsible for hydration and an agent of strength. I believe we should discuss how much we need of each and in which form, now."
It was good they were getting somewhere.

Though Gold blinked when he called the kneazle, a cat. He wasn't a cat, the kneazle. Or wait, was he? Gold half turned her face, to look intently at the creature. From here, it was hard to tell. But the creature had intelligence behind those eyes, the kind that is a characteristic of kneazles. Gold shrugged, deciding to let the matter go.
What mattered, here, was that they get on with their potion.
So that the kneazle - or cat - could get well soon.
"Right, right," she said, as she made smallish adjustment to the list she had jotted down, in her notebook. Lemon juice, no whole lemons. Salamander blood, which her vote was for, too -- and, of course, the fluxweed. The potion might not work at all, without that. Though Gold doubted it was going to work, even with it. She wasn't a professional Potions Mistress, was she? Nor Xylon. Potion Master, not Potions Mistress, of course.
"Mint, it is," she said, as she added the name to her list.
Right.
On to the next phase of the discussion, now.
"I think one and a half gallons of water sound perfect," she said. "More than the usual amount that we place, when we brew a potion in a standard-sized cauldron, but not too much. Two handfuls of Valerian blossoms should do, since we agreed we don't want to overdo that." She looked at her list, to see what other ingredients they had decided on. She remembered, of course, but just to be sure. The 'better safe than sorry' principle.
"Six standard cups of orange juice," Gold said, in thoughtful tones. "How does that sound, for a start?"

Random, yet funny. And of course, Destiny was somehow the inspiration behind it and she couldn't help but giggle. However, she was completely serious! "Hey, you know those puking pastilles? Half of the candy is supposed to make one stop throwing up..." Of course, that was after they ate the first half. And possibly, not tested on animals either... "Think that'll work too?"

"Grass is added to the list then." she said, and quickly wrote that down, too. How much grass would it need though? If she was going by how much grass Sly ate, then they were going to need a wheelbarrow full. She glanced around the room, and sure enough, there were no wheelbarrows full of grass. Pity.

"Destiny...i wasn't...serious..." Raising a brow at her friend, Evelyn leaned away from her slightly before glancing around. She really, really really, needed to teach her friend how to tell when someone was using sarcasm. That was going to be her number one main goal this summer. That, and making sure to drag her friend along for her morning and evening runs. "Besides, that's what we are using the milk for. So it'll drink it."
Sitting back up straight, the Slytherin tapped her fingers on the table as she tried to think of anything else they could put into the healing...thing, for the cat. Destiny's idea was actually really good too. "That's a good idea." she repeated her thoughts, smiling at her friend before...hearing that last 'BAM' part. Hehe. Which also got her thinking of a potion exploding...
...in front of the cat. Hairless cat. BAHAHAHAHA!
Okay, back to more important matters. Ingredients... "Well, I'm out of ideas." It was either the fact that this was a final that was making her not think of any brilliant ideas...or the fact that Patroclus was sitting right there.
Mina smiled and tapped her cheek in thought. "Yes, I'm sure it will be best to just get it all over with and then we can tend to other things." she replied. There were places she did need to be and people that wanted to see her and give her presents and all. Potion final first then birthday gifts.
Biting her lip, she continued to tap her cheek in thought and ran through all the possible ingredients they would use. "Well normally tea would be good with a bit of honey. Green or had with any of those items and all. But would that be save for the kneazle?" she voiced. Yes, if itg was her she would have just taken a nice gream tea with a bit of chamomile and ginger. "I like the idea of ginger though."
"Calming draught...yes that sounds good. What about moonstone and hellebore from the Draught of Peace?" she asked. Maybe the combination would be useful and safe on non-humans.
Patroclus quickly grabbed his quill and began to jot down all the ingredients they were listing, “These are all great!” the lion exclaimed surveying their list. “So we have ginger, mint chamomile, flat lemonade, honey, green tea, and the moonstone and hellebore from the Draught of Peace and the fluxweed and bloodroot from the Calming draught.” The boy starred absent mindedly at the parchment, "perhaps some pomegrante and re’em blood as well?"
The third year couldn’t help but look up at the clock at the front of the room, then around at the other students, it was not a race but it still felt like one. The boys eyes lingered on a certain individual for a longer moment then moved on to the mewling kneazle at the front of the class.
“Lafay must real trust us not to kill her cat, if she is letting us pour potion down it’s throat.” The boy whispered into the ear of the eagle beside him, “I just pray ours works”
“Oh and by the way, Happy Birthday,” he grinned, he hadn’t forgotten, well he almost hadn’t forgotten.

Two handful of Valerian blossoms. He agreed with that. He had thought of four but now, as he glanced at the cat (kneazle?) he realized that that might be a little too much. They didn't want the cat to get sicker. But six cups of orange juice sounded less than he had expected.
"Eight?" He suggested as a change. "The kitty's going to need his energy. He doesn't look very well."
He glanced down at the list again. "One crushed bezoar will do, no?" He asked. "I think it would be more than enough to cancel out the effects of any and all poisons there should be inside the kitty's tummy." Of course if there weren't, the bezoar would still do a good job. Kill germs. Something of that sort. Xylon gave a little shrug as he thought of this.
"Six tablespoons of lemon juice?" He suggested with ease. "It has citric acid, we don't want too put in too much of that. I'm not sure if the cat will be able to handle it. We'll have to crush the mint too. I think half an ounce will be more than enough."

The point was obviously open to discussion.
Oh, and he had brought up a very interesting point. "Lemon juice won't be the only thing that contains citric acid, in this potion," she reminded him. "We have orange juice as an ingredient, too." Which was actually a bit of a problem, because the combined effect might not be good. "I think we need a new ingredient, Xylon. Something to neutralize the acidity of the potion." She was quiet for a moment, in thought.
She had it!
"Milk of Magnesia," Gold said, decisively. "It will be available here, and it will serve as an excellent neutralizer."
She looked down at the list, once more. "Well, we still have Salamander blood and Fluxweed, left. Four tablespoons of the former, and fourteen leaves of the latter, given the kind of changes this potion could require, sound fine to me. You?"

He couldn't even make a joke --- right now --- about how patients would run as fast as possible out of a hospital, the moment they got to know she was the healer in charge.

"I was going to suggest Caustic Potash," he said. "But Milk of Magnesia sounds like a safer choice."
He nodded at what she said next. "Sounds fine to me," he said lightly. Even pleasantly. He and Gold ---- pleasant to each other? Lawrd. He was going to tease her about that for the rest of her life. MWAHA. "We can begin with the water. I think we should allow it to come to a boil." Would get rid of germs and stuff. "We can add the orange juice in next and stir for five or so minutes. That should allow it to blend properly."
He looked at her expecantly to listen to what she had to say about that idea. How much time did they have left?

"MREEEEAAAAAAOOOOOOWWWWW!!!" The kneazle said as it began levitating now that his mommy's wand wasn't pointing at him. Hecate appeared flustered and forced the cat back on the desk with her wand and continued petting it. "It's your own fault, Mephisto, for sneaking in the dorms and stealing candy..." She whispered in his ear.

Caustic Potash?
Gold hadn't thought of that, to be honest. She had put forward the first suggestion that had come to her mind. But it looked like Xylon was alright with it, with Milk of Magnesia as the key neutralizer, so she nodded. "Well, that's settled then," she said, as she placed a little tick next to the name of the ingredient, on the list she had drawn up.
Oh my, they were on to the procedure. This was the delicate part, no doubt. Gold had seen, more than once, that it was easy to come up with ingredients, if you had a good knowledge of Potions. The difficult part, then, was to mix them in the right way. There were all sorts of reactions that took place, a lot of them that didn't even show themselves in colour changes of sudden explosions, and those could make or mar a concoction.
She listened to him and, when he had fallen silent, nodded. "Sounds good so far," she said, politely. "I think the mint and bezoar should go in next, because they form the key bases of what we're aiming to get - a brew that will cure a kneazle who's vomitting." Her green gaze turned away from Xylon, to look at the sick creature, again.
"Crushed mint and the bezoar, then, stirred until they fully dissolve into the base potion. We should alternate the stirring - to activate the change - clockwise once, anti-clockwise then, clockwise again and so on, until both ingredients can no longer be seen. Ella walked into the potions classroom, very reluctantly. She knew that she'd be feeling crappy during every exam because she hadn't hardly studied for any of them! Awwh, the Kneazle had too many Fizzing Whizbees! How to make it feel better?! Ella didn't bloomin' know!
Thank Merlin they were allowed partners. She needed all the support she could get during these stupid exams. She looked around anxiously. Hmm, she needed to pick someone smart to be her partner. Preferrably not a first year. Her hatred for firsties had disappeared a little bit since she started school, but she still didn't want to work with one. They were dumb!
Ella. Was. Scared. She didn't want to end up killing the Kneazle..
Gold hadn't thought of that, to be honest. She had put forward the first suggestion that had come to her mind. But it looked like Xylon was alright with it, with Milk of Magnesia as the key neutralizer, so she nodded. "Well, that's settled then," she said, as she placed a little tick next to the name of the ingredient, on the list she had drawn up.
Oh my, they were on to the procedure. This was the delicate part, no doubt. Gold had seen, more than once, that it was easy to come up with ingredients, if you had a good knowledge of Potions. The difficult part, then, was to mix them in the right way. There were all sorts of reactions that took place, a lot of them that didn't even show themselves in colour changes of sudden explosions, and those could make or mar a concoction.
She listened to him and, when he had fallen silent, nodded. "Sounds good so far," she said, politely. "I think the mint and bezoar should go in next, because they form the key bases of what we're aiming to get - a brew that will cure a kneazle who's vomitting." Her green gaze turned away from Xylon, to look at the sick creature, again.
"Crushed mint and the bezoar, then, stirred until they fully dissolve into the base potion. We should alternate the stirring - to activate the change - clockwise once, anti-clockwise then, clockwise again and so on, until both ingredients can no longer be seen. Gold had this neat, orderly, perfectionist way of doing things that always made Xylon raise an eyebrow. He could never live that way if he tried. It meant taking a lot of extra bother.
But as he looked down at her notebook, he had to admit it to himself that it was a huge help.
"Sounds excellent," he said as he gathered his thoughts. "I think it would be a good idea to add the Valerian blossoms next. The disintegration would require vigorous stirring of course." He paused thoughtly. "Two-directional I believe. From what I understand that should make the process quicker and more effective." They had nothing to loose, did they?
"The lemon juice goes next. We'll let it blend on its own ---" Might not be the best idea to give that a good shake. Lots of citric acid, Xylon presumed. "Bring the mixture to a boil to help things along and pour in the Milk of Magnesia. Or do you suppose we should stir that in instead?"
His look was faintly inquiring.

Evelyn was only joking about Lafay letting them shove a potion down her cat's throat. Good, because Destiny wasn't going to be the one to do that. That cat looked VICIOUS. Of course, it could be because it was spewing all over the place, and it was probably in a lot of pain, so it had every right to be angry.
Lafay on the other hand..
That woman must have had a rough childhood the way she was angry all the time. Oh..and now she was pointing her wand at Evelyn.

Destiny stood from her stool and took a step away from her friend. If Lafay was going to light Evelyn on fire, she didn't want to be caught by the little embers that would fly off. Being lit on fire once was enough for her!
When it was safe, and Evelyn was not ablaze, Destiny sat back in her stool. Eeesh, she really wanted to finish this potion and get out of this room as fast as possible. Pulling her notebook closer, she wrote down the last two ingredients. "I am out of ideas, too. So now all we have to do is figure out how much of everything to put in. I say a handful of grass and we should PULVERIZE it."
Because pulverizing things is fun!

Gold looked up, at his face. No, that must have been a trick of the light, or something. He actually seemed pretty involved in the task they had to complete, here. Which would have been a surprise, if she hadn't come to know him so well, over the length of the term.
Xylon was intelligent. Even nice. Well, when he chose to be. Most of the time, he didn't choose that; so, you know, she couldn't exactly be objective and say he was. Nice, that is.
"We could set the stirrer to stir itself," she said, tones thoughtful. "But I think we shouldn't, when we're breaking up the Valerian." Professor Kazimeriz had always said that intent is important -- and the way you convey it across, equally so. Devoted stirring would infuse a part of their aim into the potion, itself. It would be a cause for better results, Gold was sure. She gave a little nod of her head, more to herself than Xylon.
"Two-directional, until the blossoms have disintegrated," she agreed. "It would be more efficient, that way."
"We'll let the water cool down a little, before we stir in the Milk of Magnesia," Gold said. Yes, stir in. "We can pour it in, and then let the stirrer work. Ten or so stirs should do the trick. We don't want to wait till the substance 'blends' because it's water-based in the first place, and we won't actually have a fair idea if it has, or not." Yes, ten stirs should be enough.
Unless Xylon a fair argument.
"We could add in the rest of the Fluxweed, then, followed by the Salamander blood," she suggested. "I think we should let the Salamandar blood blend on its own way into the potion. No frantic stirring. It can work its own magic. But we could give the potion a final boil, to speed up the process."
She looked up at Xylon.
"... and, if we agreed upon that, that would be all, I think."
She gave him a smile, a small but warm one to show that she was glad for his help and insight, as she jotted down the rest of the procedure.

[] Pour in the Salamander blood.
[] Boil the brew one, final time. Let cool.
[] Measure out a sample, and enclose it in a vial.

Potions exam. Gahhh. Not exactly Aiden's strong point, but this seemed like a fair enough final. Professor Lafay's kneazle was ill, so it made sense that they would be the ones to cure it. Even though he doubted the professor would trust all of them enough to use one of their potions on her own pet.
But, anyway. Partners. Aiden's eyes danced around the room before landing on... Ella! With a smile, he gathered his things and plopped them on the desk beside hers. "Mind putting up with me for the final?"
"hi im james black, so i was thinking that we take a calming draught as it will sooth and calm the animal but also use:
Peppermint: as it sooth's the digestive tract and stimulates bile production to aid digestion
Ginger root: as of the voletile and other oils it contains that will help with the nausea that the cat is likely to experience as of the over eating
Pomegranate: It contains a hord of vitamins such as C,A,E and also folic acid that aids the production of stomach acid which will help digestion
Water: in the calming draught as i would expectit will have lost a large amount of fluids"

Brew a potion to treat a sick kneazle
Jason Potter Weasley and James Black
1. Add 1 pint of water to the coldren an heat to 62 degrees Celsius
2. Then add 6 drops of flew water to heated water
3. Split the bloodroot stems lengthwise with your knives and scrape out all fluid and fibrous material from inside the stems. Crush with mortar and pestle into a fine paste and add to the cauldron.
4. Use a knife to finely chop one? whole ginger root and add to cauldron
5. Take a single pomegranate cut it in half and remove the contents, either crush the content with the side of the knife to extract the juice or use a mortar and pestle. Then add the juices that you receive ,as a result, to the mixture.
6. Optional add the leaves and roots of four dandelions.
7. Then add 2 tablespoons dried peppermint leaves to to cups of boiled water in a sperate container stir for ten minuets then add to Cauldron
8. Stir the mixture alternately anticlockwise and clockwise, continue until a light steam rises from the cauldron
9. Then finally add one final spring of peppermint
"Well i think that is the instructions done, what do you think i'm also unsure of the amount of ginger, me nope i'm from Ireland originally, i'm guessing your from texas then'

Alright, they really needed to get cracking soon. They were running out of time. They did have to actually brew the potion, after all. "Hey Nancy, take a look at this. What do you think? I'm not sure about some of the serving amounts or if we need to add or take away ingredients."
