The Herald is a notice board that is updated on a regular basis containing any and all information from the date and time of Quidditch tryouts/practices, classes going on in the school, homework, etc. By keeping you informed, it offers us the chance to gain the most house points in a term!

Welcome to Hufflepuff!

We would like to give our newest additions to Hufflepuff a warm welcome and hope you're enjoying yourselves so far! Congratulations on being sorted into our house of gold and black, we hope you're loving it and if not we assure you Hufflepuff and all it's members will grow on you before you realize it.

Welcome back to the older students as well, please make sure to try setting a good example not only for the first years but on how a true Hufflepuff should present our house. ~~In other words Hogwarts is not a zoo, refrain from acting like monkeys outside of the privacy of the common room lounge.~~

It seems that even though the events of last term seems to have weakened us as a school, we come back and prove that we are still standing strong. There were a couple of difficult times, but with the house unity that we have, I'm sure we can overcome whatever obstacle that is thrown our way. We still have yet to win the House Cup, but there is a time for everything, and the Badgers know this is our time to shine. So go out there, work your hardest, be a good rolemodel, learn everything there is to know and HAVE FUN - we have an amazing time ahead of us. Use it well.

The Herald's History

The Hufflepuff Herald is your number one source of information concerning everything school-related. This is the 15th edition of the Herald, which has switched hands several times: Nabiya MacPherson, Raymond Luxury-Yacht, Evy Abagnale, Evan Cassels, Evzen Ferez, Caitlin White, Amelia Rose, Savannah Mae, Seth Paton, Kayla Winters, Dominic Denton, Vanessa Corbette, Tamzin Wood and Kaika Lockhart have all been editors of the Herald. Where can I find my member number?
You can find your member number by clicking on your username to view your profile, and then by looking at the number at the end of the link.

What year are we supposed to be in?
It's currently the year of 2071-72.

Do I have to do the homework and attend classes?
No, it is not mandatory. However, if you want to earn house points for Hufflepuff, completing homework and participating in the classes is the best way to do it.

What does OOC mean?
OOC means ''Out Of Character'', while IC means ''In Character''.

How can I get involved in the school story? I feel so out of everything.
There are so many ways to get your character involved in the RPG! The best ways are having them join the Quidditch team, participate in the classes, and meet other students! Also, if you're confused about what's going on in the school's plot line, take a look at Hogwarts, A History; it should help answer a lot of your questions.

Is there a Head Boy and Girl? Are there Prefects?
Indeed there is! They are Chris Potter (DanialRADFan01) and Celandine Toussaint (Celandine) and can be identified by a Head Boy and Girl Tag, respectively, under their usernames.
In addition, there are still two Prefects for each house, and they will be designated by a Prefect's Badge under their username.

Classroom Tips

1. Respect your teachers and classmates.
2. If you come online while the class is already going on, do not announce that you are late. Simply act like your character’s been there the whole time, otherwise teachers will deduct points from our house.
3. If you’ve got to leave before the end of the lesson, do not announce it.
4. Unnecessary chatting in the classroom will not be tolerated.
5. Keep OOC comments to a minimum.
6. When the teacher asks a question, feel free to raise your hand and offer an answer. The quickest answers as well as the most creative answers can be rewarded with house points.
7. Please be patient if the professor doesn’t answer you straight away. We all live in different timezones and have other responsibilities in real life, so it is possible the teacher had to leave for a few minutes/hours.
8. Be creative and have fun!

• Charms Lesson #1 Homework
Note: You're still welcome to do the homework even if you didn't actually roleplay in class.

WRITTEN
1. In class, we talked about a few ways magic has made our lives easier. Choose one item from the list we made and write a small paragraph (at least five sentences) describing how magic has made that specific part of our lives easier. (OOC: If your character added their own option to this list, feel free to use one of those if you'd like).

2. The combination of charms we learned in class causes one item to levitate and fixate and another item to turn. The combination can also be used to wash dishes, since you could levitate and fixate a dish and charm a washrag to turn and clean. Think of at least one other situation (it doesn't have to be kitchen-related) in which you could use the combination of charms we learned in class. In other words, a situation where you could levitate and fixate one object then cause another to turn. Write at least five sentences describing the answer you came up with.

Share your cupcakes with at least one other person (student or staff) in the school. OOC: You'll need to roleplay this and link me to the posts of you offering the cupcakes and the other person accepting.

• Transfiguration Homework One

Part 1
Name one of The Five Principle Exceptions to Gamp's Law of Elemental Transfiguration. Give an example of something that appears to violate that exception and explain why it doesn't.

Part 2
Practice your reverto and horolos spells with a partner. Select an item, and use horolos to turn it into a watch or clock. Then, switch items with your partner and use reverto to restore it.

Submit a (short) explanation of what you did, keeping in mind our lesson's focus on recognizing the properties of items.
ooc: also submit a link to the posts where you RP practicing the spells with your partner.

Notes
5th year students and above may, but are not required, to use an animal for this transfiguration. Anyone caught practicing on an animal other than their own or one that a friend has given explicit permission to use will not receive points for this exercise.

Translation: you will not find random creatures on the grounds/in the castle and transfigure them; you will not kidnap someone's pet.

The Student Gardens: Professor Dodson likes the student gardens well maintained... Have a knack for Herbology? Then why not offer your assistance in helping to ensure the plants are well nourished?
Hogwarts Library: Perhaps you are one who enjoys the books and spends way too much time inside reading/studying. If this is you, then try offering out your assistance to reshelving/organizing books to Mister Kapoor.

Part 1 (Up to 5 points)

Where are Quintapeds found? (1 point)

What is the Quintaped's Ministry of Magic rating? Why does it hold that rating? (2 points)

Name two differences between animagi transformations and other human-to-animal transfigurations. (2 points)

Part 2 (Up to 15 points)

Choose option A, B OR C. Minimum is two paragraphs.

Option A – Do you believe the myth behind the Quintapeds? Why or why not? Consider what we discussed in class about whether it was possible. We want to hear your opinion and your reasons why.

Option B – If you were transfigured, tell us about it. What was it like? Why did you choose to be? Did anything surprise you? If you were not transfigured, tell us about your reasons and your observations. We want to hear your opinions about human transfiguration.

Option C – Several students mentioned that, in many cases, you are your only limit. Imagine that you’ve created a new creature that didn’t exist before, like in the Quintaped myth. Describe its physical characteristics, its behavior, where it lives, etc. And then tell us a story about how that creature came to be.

Be sure to include details in your drawing of the clouds including shapes, colors, placement in the sky, or anything else interesting you noticed while performing your readings. In addition, please provide ONE paragraph briefly explaining your picture. Below is a ~~very crudely~~ drawn example of what I am looking for:
