Kylie felt a note on top of her hand as she was taking some notes about the classes progress so far. Just basic definitions of cryptomancy and some situations where it could be used more modernly.
She opened it up, from Evelyn.

Sure! After class then. P.S. That's great!
Kylie moved the parchment paper up a bit and began writing...

Huzzah! Here it was! And this one, took longer than expected. Surely her message wasn't that hard to decipher. Giving a confused look to the Hufflepuff, Evelyn opened up the note...
...and her jaw slightly dropped. Well, there was the reason for the hold up. This was going to take forever! Longer messages = not good. Picking up her pencil, the Slytherin sighed before getting to work on translating the thing, but also keeping her ears open for anything the Professor was saying.

Well that certainly was a relief. Hmm, practically to the point where she didn't feel guilty anymore. Mwa! A bit more in high spirits now, Evelyn thought about it for a moment before replying.

Aaanndd.. here came the note! Kylie was getting much better at translating these. It was coming a lot faster. After only a few minutes, she began writing back her reply.

That's great! I'm really sorry, again.

Kylie flicked the piece of parchment back over to Evelyn once more.
This class was starting to get seriously repetitive.
Frowning at the girl, Evelyn hesitantly took the parchment as she stared at the girl she didn't know before looking down at the numbers. Alright then.
She glanced at the girl every now and then as she worked out the message, juuuuust to make sure she wasn't up to anything.
SPOILER!!: Evelyn
465 9’4 3337 14928, 2891 655 91 669 763. ??? I'm Lucy Smith, this one is for you.
Well, alrighty then. At least she knew the girl's name, but either the girl had messed up or her brain was just fried at the moment, Evelyn could not figure out the first word. Taking a deep breath however, she quickly scribbled a reply on the same parchment before handing it back to...Lucy Smith.
SPOILER!!: Note to Lucy

Lucy quickly took the note given to her by Evelyn, and ready it, it seemed as if she could not figure out the first word. So she look back to what she had written and could see the numbers wrongly written by she, she was thinking of something else while writting the numbers, that made her do silly mistake. It's ok, she thought and replied to Evelyn in the note.
SPOILER!!: Note by Evelyn

Lucy heard the reply of the Professor and was happy to know that she had thought something to her Professor. She was all filled with pride and became speechless and sat down with a smiling face.

Watching the two third years passing notes back and forth with numbers on it, Fina had to overlook their parchment and a small smile formed on her face. "It seems you're doing better at this than you thought. I wouldn't underestimate your abilities as a cryptomancer, Mr Hudson."
-------------------------
Anyway, as the students were working, now would be a good time to ask some more questions about the material. "So it was mentioned about cryptomancy perhaps being used by our ancestors in the past... as a means to get messages across secretly. In modern-day, however, things are different as we have more means to communicate. But yet cryptomancy is still alive and utilized by many throughout the world. What reasons can you think of as to why use this versus other ways to communicate? What uses can think of for using cryptomancy while a student at Hogwarts?"
Patroclus smiled as the Professor aknowledge his improvements, he just hoped that he now was jinx, and that all his codes would be horribly wrong! "Well the secretive nature of thr scrypt is one reason, why it is still in use. Also as many great people have said, what we don't learn from the past we are bound to repeat, so by ensuring the use of Cryptomancy is still used, it's longevitiy is made certain, so that one day when it may be of great necessity, its translation is avalible." It may have been a stretch, but to Patroclus it made sense!

She hoped he understood that she was referring to that she thought he was good at this. She was getting better.. kind of... It was a little tricky to decipher them still! She flicked it to Patroclus once more, the note still said "Patroclus - Kylie" on it.
SPOILER!!: Kylie’s translation
I still think so… . How are you?
Patroclus smiled as he decoded Kylie’s return message, It seemed everyone; Evelyn, the Professor and now Kylie, believed in Patroclus more that he did himself!
Taking up his quill, he began to pen a reply,

Folding the page once more, he returned it to the Hufflepuff.

YAY! Gold picked up the paper, smoothed it out and read what it said. Of course, it was only a bunch of numbers right now, but it would make sense, soon enough. Dipping her quill in PINK! ink again, she slowwwly but cheerfully started to decode the message.
Anyway, as the students were working, now would be a good time to ask some more questions about the material. After writing she slowly raised her hand.
"Well if the person is all secretive and all he or she would probably consider using this instead of the usual abc's. I guess as a student I could use these for slipping notes to others during classes. B-but of course I won't.." she stammered on the last line before sitting down.

"Sure... Feel free to make your message as complicated or easy as you feel comfortable with." Because who was she to judge what kids found easy or hard? Some students did grasp onto things better than others.

"Thank you." Celandine answered out of habit and then sat up, pleased that she was allowed to work on something harder. She shot an encouraging smile at the cutie pie firstie who'd asked to do the same. Aww cute. Precious. She wanted to give him hugs and candy and fix his hair.
Cela listened to the question and promptly raised her hand. "Well professor, You know how a few years back, Hogwarts closed down and there were two schools? An all boys school and an all girls school? That was my first year and we weren't allowed to communicate with each other but my brother and I totally did. We used a cypher to encode our letters and sent them off to other people who passed them on and they looked like they were perfectly innocent letters from home, but actually we were communicating about this treasure thing that a group called the Order of the Seal revealed to some of us through clues, many of them were encrypted too. My family have been communicating that way for centuries and at home we have entire books that are actually not what they seem." She tipped her head to one side.
"Furthermore, we always treated them as an exercise for the mind, something to keep you sharp and help train you to take a second look at everything. So really, practicing stuff like this can only be a benefit to you even if you totally do it for fun like I do."

Nia raised her hand. "For ensuring your message is only read, and understood, by the intended viewer, perhaps," she said with a smile. "There are various types of cipher techniques, and so as long as both the writer and the intended reader know which key is applicable, it can make notes private. Even if it is intercepted, the message won't easily be read, because the intercepter won't know how to make sense of it. If nothing else it'll require work to crack the code - which takes time. Plus, it's just as quick to write, without the need for protective charms and the like one might use for important letters." It was fun too, of course. "Oh, and for extra security, the key to deciphering the code can change each time too. Again, as long as both parties know the link or trick." Was it getting obvious Nia used codes regularly herself? Hmm.
And for her own message, Nia still didn't have a clue. A random sentence to someone in the room, seemed, well, random. And perhaps awkward, since the Captain realised she didn't appear to know many people. Whoops.
And then she had a thought. She gave a smile, and wrote her message on her parchment before sending it across to Cela with a wink.
The question was, who was up to the challenge? Celandine looked around.
Ooo, Cela had done it already! And Nia now had a message to dechipher. Taking her quill in hand, she worked her way through what the Head Girl had replied. Her lips curled into a smile as she diciphered it. How fun!
SPOILER!!: Uncoded message
If you go out in the rain,
You will not return again,
Unless you stay warm, fed and dry.

A thought popped into Nia's head, and she smiled as she tried to fit the verse together. Sorted, she quickly encoded it before sending the note back to Cela.
Browncoat l Extra Syrup l Kita's Strong Confident Other Half l Lemon Patch
So Cryptography......more complicated than it looks. Atleast it seemed so to Arya who was still working on the one message while everyone else had been passing multiple ones. Scribbling on her parchement, her eyes flickered back from her book to her parchement as she crossed out numbers and changed them to new ones. When she finally had a message, the little Puff folded it and looked around til she found the person she wanted to check read the note.
Spotting Cela, cause she would know if it was right, she passed the note to the Head Girl. And now she waits.

Hmm, well if she said it was fine, than Evelyn wasn't going to try and persaude her mind that it wasn't. For one, because the Slytherin had told Poof to do that to her, but on the other hand, she didn't want the cat to do it that severly. She just wanted a distraction...

Nodding to Gold's 'thanks' the boy waved at her and watched her as she decoded the note. She was quick, was not she? Probably because she had not been sleeping in the class while the professor was talking about those messages like him. And there came her reply...
Text Cut: Gold's message
Fine, thanks! How's the awesome resident (?) lion trouble-maker?
ooc: i'm not sure about the 'resident' word.
Hehehe trouble-maker. He really was one trouble magnet yet he could hardly tell that he was proud of it but but but...if it made him interesting he was okay with it. Smiling to himself he grabbed his quill that Evelyn gave him and wrote back to the redhead prefect.

Kylie got Patroclus's note and quickly deciphered it and wrote up a new note. She was getting GOOD at this...
She just wasn't positive about the last word. She thought that maybe he made a mistake and it was 'you'?
She then got the note from Evelyn, it took her a little bit to translate the second to last word... BUT eventually, SHE DID... with some help..
Text Cut: Evie's translation
If you're sure then *smiley face*
She laughed a little in her head before writing back the reply..

She had now finished taking her notes and just sort of sat back in her chair... As people said a comment or two she would jot down the main ideas. But, for the most part, she'd kind of stalled for a while.
Rawr for a new code. The problem was, Gold could not for the life of her, figure out the first word. She dipped her quill in the usual PINK! ink, and pondered over it for half a minute, before deciding to decode the rest of the message, and come back to the first word later on.

And after sending it back to the prefect the boy got surprised when another message landed on his desk.
This one was soooo tough. Gold couldn't figure out the last word, even though she spent a good five minutes on it! She broke it up in two parts, because that was as much sense as she could make of it but, finally, gave up and scribbled down what she had been able to translate.
"Josh," she said, to get his attention ad hand the note back to him. "Resident's right. But I couldn't figure out the last word you wrote down."

SPOILER!!: Uncoded message
If you go out in the rain,
You will not return again,
Unless you stay warm, fed and dry.
You are fire.
A thought popped into Nia's head, and she smiled as she tried to fit the verse together. Sorted, she quickly encoded it before sending the note back to Cela.
Oh? Another? Celandine took the reply and skimmed it a few times.
SPOILER!!: message solved?
That is true, fire I be,
this is what I really need:
what fits down a chimney up,
but put down whilst up, will get stuck?
Oh. Umbrella! Celandine mimed putting an umbrella up and winked at Nia.

Spotting Cela, cause she would know if it was right, she passed the note to the Head Girl. And now she waits.

Rawr for a new code. The problem was, Gold could not for the life of her, figure out the first word. She dipped her quill in the usual PINK! ink, and pondered over it for half a minute, before deciding to decode the rest of the message, and come back to the first word later on.

He looked up and blushed as the teacher noticed they were passing love notes. It's a good thing they were written in code, otherwise she'd be able to read it.
He then handed the note back over to Marie.

AND the ink was still wet. Gold loved wet ink, on fresh parchment. It was so, sooo lovely. Half-smiling at the thought, she gazed down at the message, as if that would make it decode itself.
But of course, that wouldn't.
So Gold got to work and, a couple of minutes later, folded the parchment in half and handed it back to Dianna.
She was hungry!

As Patroclus sat starring at the numbers of Pythagoras on the board, trying to commit them to memory, the page with his name and that of Kylies onto it, returned to his desk.
As he began to decode it, he was a little unsure sure as to whom Evie was. However he was able to work out the rest of the message so he penned a return.

I’m fine. I don’t know if evie told you but I had some bad luck and lost my wand.

Dianna unfolded and dipped her quill into the special ink she bought before the term started. It smelled like lavender and it was lovely.
This time she stood up and walked over to her table giving her the message.
Gold was surprised, when Dianna actually walked up to her desk. "Hey," she beamed, as she took back the page. WHOA! Long message, there. It would take a couple of minutes, to decode that.
Once Gold had decoded it, she jotted down the translation, added a new message and, folding up the paper in half, tossed it to Dianna. Folded-up!paper plane! Hehehe.

Xylon was bored. He wished Rae was here so he could pass her a few notes. That would have been fun. The seventh year resisted the urge to rest his elbows on his desk and his head on his elbows ----- in short the urge to fall asleep.
Writing down a code on a new page he tossed it to Gold. Then he wrote down another message and tossed it to Patroclus.
Popping back up, the Hufflepuff set herself to work, breaking out in giggles every now and then. When she had finished, two pieces of folded parchment in her small hands, Wesley skip-shuffle-walked over to Nancy.
"This is for you," she announced, before placing one of the papers on the older girl's desk.
Oh, for once it seemed they were allowed to pass notes during class. Or they were actually INSTRUCTED to pass notes during class. Hehe. Another reason why Arithmancy was awesome. Noooow, who to write a note to...?
O_O
Wesley?! Aww, the girl had written her a note? How cute...she was just so adorable. "Thank you!" Nancy grinned broadly at the Hufflepuff as she picked up the parchment from the desk. Now on to decoding the message.
Text Cut: Parchment
You have a pretty smile and nice hair, and you remind me of chocolate covered marshmallows.
Aww...had she mentioned that Wesley was adorable? Well, she just so was. Scribbling down her answer on the same parchment, Nancy quickly went over to the younger Hufflepuff and with a rather cheeky grin handed the parchment back to her.
Gold was surprised, when Dianna actually walked up to her desk. "Hey," she beamed, as she took back the page. WHOA! Long message, there. It would take a couple of minutes, to decode that.

Patroclus sat waiting for his either of his letters to return, or for the lesson to progress, either one would be fine, Patroclus didn’t mind, he rather enjoyed sitting there decoding.
Next thing he knew a folded paper wad, hit in the temple. Snapping his head around he saw Xylon’s outstretch arm. Patroclus laughed then decoded the message.
SPOILER!!: Xylon’s Translation
I’m bored so……Hi I guess
Writing just underneath the previous set of numbers, Patroclus returned a message and the Frisbeed it back, like a ninja star!
